the W hotel in san francisco. It's chic/modern and fairly new. It is in downtown san francisco about 3 blocks away from union square, 1 block away from metreon and san francisco shopping center, .5 blocks away from SF museum of modern art.
Check out Marriott Fisherman's Wharf. The Marriott brand never disappoints - always offering a great service. Numerous restaurants and attractions are within walking distance. They do charge a parking fee as all other hotels in the area. But I would not recommend renting car anyway. Take a cable car, walk or get a taxi.
The newest and most popular four star hotels in the city are:
Four Seasons on Market at 4th street
Vitale on the Embarcadero
Omni on California at Montgomery
St Regis on Third at Howard
W at Third and Mission
Older 4 star hotels you may want to consider
St. Francis on Powell at Geary
Ritz Carlton, Mark Hopkins or the Fairmont on Nob Hill
