We went for a one-night get-away and chose this hotel online as a gamble.  It was a good gamble, because this place is newly-renovated, and the rooms are charming, well-done, tasteful and comfortable.  The beds are very comfortable -- best night of sleep in a while.  The courtyard is a great place to relax -- several tables, some with umbrellas, a gas barbecue and very close to dining and entertainment.

Getting ready to check out of the Iron Horse Inn.  This is my first time to the area and when I return I will stay here again.  The owner is one of the nicest people I have met in a long time.  So kind and genuine.  The room was great very charming, beautifully decorated and comfortable with everything you could really need.  And you can not beat the location! Walking distance to good food and drinks.  Would rate higher if I could.

Absolutely fabulous!  We were truly surprised by the comfort and ambience.  The owners, Sandy and Billy, made it feel as though we were guests in their home; they were attentive and gracious.  The outdoor courtyard was a great place to sit back with a bottle of wine after a day of sightseeing and wine tasting.

We'll definitely be back!

Thank u Hotels.com for letting me find this hotel.  Nestled right smack middle in Cottonwood, this is the hotel to be at.  Billy is such a friendly guy and his staff is to.  We had 3 of us stay in room 109.  2 of us stayed on a queen bed and other on a rollaway.  Room was very nice.  If your looking for a nice hotel with great customer service.  Iron horse Inn in Cottonwood Arizona is the place to be.

The owner was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel seems to have been recently renovated and used to be a small motel. The rooms on the bottom floor are small but clean and with new finishes. In walking distance to lots of food and drink.

I'd give it 15 if I could! The location is PeRFECT! right in the heart of the tasting rooms in Cottonwood. I belive our room was $100 a night, with tax! the rooms were spacious, newly updated and just perfect/ they have Wi Fi and cable. The owners could NOT be nicer! Just a great experience, i'll stay there EVERYTIME i'm in the area!

It's no longer called the Sundial Motel, it's now The Iron Horse Inn ( ironhorseoldtown.com ) and it's amazing.
The owners are extremely nice and the remodeled rooms are so quaint.
It was our first time in the area but we'll definitely be back.

Incredible, honestly the best hotel I've ever stayed at! We paid $77.50 after tax and fees for their adorable two twin bed room. Granted it was mid-week in March so it won't always be that inexpensive but that should give you an idea. It was the coziest little hotel room I've ever stayed in. The motel is right smack in the middle of quaint old town Cottonwood. There are several (really good!) restaurants or bars within easy walking distance. We chose Bocce (a hip pizza joint with a fun menu) which was literally a block away. The entrance to the motel is flanked by large intricately designed iron gates which open onto an open air courtyard that was very clean, well furnished and inviting. The rooms are nice and private. My husband and I (yes we rented the twin bed room to save $20) couldn't believe how well stocked our teeny room was. Air conditioning (I guess that's a given in AZ), organic shampoo & conditioner, shower cap (thank you!!), bottled water for free, wine opener, microwave, mini fridge, Bible (my husband found that charming)....flat screen tv with tons of free channels, free wifi (spotty), single cup coffee maker with everything needed for two cups of Joe, a hospitality room available to all motel guests with fresh fruit (free), snacks and beverages for purchase... We even spoke to the owner on our way out and he said he was just that morning on the phone with Seattle's Best Coffee working on getting a fancy coffee machine for the hospitality room. I can't say enough great things about this motel. I told my husband, during dinner, if he ever wanted to surprise me with a romantic getaway he could take me back to Cottonwood :). We chose Cottonwood because of its proximity to Sedona. It was well worth the savings to drive the 30 minutes and I am so glad we did. I would make a trip back just to stay in Cottonwood again.

I found this hidden little gem on hotels.com . Boy were we lucky to stumble blindly onto this place. The charm is evident from the wrought iron gate entrance to the well appointed rooms holding true to their Iron Horse name. The rooms aren't incredibly big but they are designed well and maximize all the space in the room. The staff is very helpful as well. My fiance loved her birthday stay and she is not an easy patron to please.

The hotel is nestled right on main street Cottonwood and if you haven't been to downtown Cottonwood; you are missing out on an amazing experience of food and culture. Within walking distance to all the shops, restaurants and bars make this is an ideal location. Skip Sedona and head directly here. You will save a lot of $ and enjoy the food, people and views just as much, if not more.

BTW, I am a 30 year old guy from NYC so this isn't a biased endorsement.

$100 for the wonderful, boutique style Iron Horse or $120 for a run of the mill mid tier hotel a mile from downtown Cottonwood?  We are so thankful that we went with the Iron Horse over Labor Day Weekend 2014.

We were told that the previous hotel was home to some less than desirable vacationers, but that the new owners had completely gutted and overhauled the location and their commitment to detail did not disappoint.  The quaint courtyard was well maintained (and would serve as home to the afterparty later that Sunday night) and the rooms were exceptionally cozy, with a mix of modern and historic elements.  Our small room consisted of polished dark wood floors, a queen sized platform bed, remote controlled A/C and ceiling fan and a large flat panel TV.  Yet for it's limited size, the room also included a fridge and microwave.  Additionally, the rain style shower head was very relaxing.

If I can help it, I will do my damnedest to always stay at Iron Horse.  What hotel walks you to your room and explains the amenities and offers free fruit to guests?  And if Iron Horse doesn't mind keeping a room available for me....well.....

*Tip 1*
The courtyard is a great place to take the party and turn up your music.  We didn't get too loud, but the dual pane windows ensure hotel guests won't call the cops on you.

**Tip 2**
Iron Horse is the best located hotel in Cottonwood.  They're right next to Burning Tree Cellars (awesome!)

**Tip 3**

Ride the Iron Horse and don't lose your room key!!!  Yes, an actual key!

This is a wonderful, affordable option in Old Town. Typically, we stay in the Best Western outside of Old Town but not any more! We booked it through Hotels.com and after tax, the rate was $100/night....so affordable! They also put a rollaway in the room since my daughter came with us. No extra charge.

The rooms were so comfortable and tastefully decorated. The rooms also come with a fridge and microwave. The owners were so hospitable, too, and treated us and my daughter very well. We really enjoyed our stay and will continue to try and stay there whenever possible!

Apparently, there are not a plethora of great hotels in Cottonwood.  Every chain I looked at seemed to be less than desirable in the eyes of my fellow Yelpers, so it was clearly going to be an independent.  My first choice was thankfully booked, or I might have spent twice as much and not been nearly as happy.

Iron Horse does not offer online reservations, and a travel site listed no availability, but I called anyway, and they had a room!  It was a small room, but had a queen bed and was gorgeous! The current husband and wife team purchased the hotel about a year and a half ago, and it's been completely renovated.  This is not your typical room with typical hotel furnishings.  It's been thoughtfully decorated and looks like the beautiful bedroom you wish you had...dark laminate flooring, area rugs, pedestal bed, and unique furnishings.  They were careful to retain the original charm of this old motor court motel.  Although the carports had long been enclosed because the 1970 boats disguised as passenger cars did not fit, you can still envision it in the courtyard.

But in the small space was everything you would need.  A microwave, mini fridge, Starbucks coffee station, plenty of towels and toiletries, a wardrobe, and even a side chair...oh, and a wine bottle opener because this hotel is right in the middle of Old Town and the tasting rooms...and a bird cage.  I loved the bird cage.

For $80 a night, it is not possible for there to be a nicer room.  And the owners are equally nice as well.  The office is only open during the day since they have to do EVERYTHING, but they are available by phone in the evenings should you need something.  Due to the rain. we opted out of the tasting rooms that evening, so a return stay at the Iron Horse is in order.

This place is just AMAZE. I can't begin to tell you how satisfied my boyfriend and I were! The front desk lady is possibly the nicest person in the world! We happened to be driving through only (cross-country trips do leave you exhausted) and found this place on hotels.com . So pleased we found this gem. I don't even want to say too much b/c I want to keep it my own secret and go every year to experience the joy of being in this hotel and in this town all over again! Also, they do allow pets, just call ahead. And walk the streets during the day to experience all the boutique-y shops!

Truly a five star!! I so would have stayed another night if I had the time.

They have street parking and also free private parking.  The check-in counter closes after certain time but if you call the number on the door, someone will show up to check you in.

The room we stayed was wonderful.  It came with Starbucks coffee (like Westin!),  a TV which can be hooked up with your computer and tablet by blue tooth system, and a sleep number bed!  The bathroom was a bit tight but upgraded and came with a squishy bathmat.

The employees are very nice and pleasant.  A lady showed me different rooms which are under construction in the morning of check-out, and every room was different decoration and size.

The inn is located in downtown Cottonwood but close enough to Sedona (about 20min drive) and it is much more affordable than other places in Sedona.  Plus there are so many great restaurants in a walking distance.

Iron Horse has the convenience and privacy of a hotel with the attention and fabulous customer service of a b&b. The rooms have been recently remodeled and decorated with modern touches not typically found in a hotel including mini fridge and microwave. There's a lovely courtyard in the middle of the rooms with a nice sitting area, bonsai and cactus.

WOW!!!  What a hidden gem!  The Iron Horse Inn has been around since the '30s, which expanded again in the '70s.  It is a smoke-free inn located in Old Town Cottonwood.  It's about a 20-mile drive from Sedona, so if you need a place to stay overnight, I highly suggest this place!  It was recently renovated and has a cute European charm to it - the rooms are small, but cozy; it's decorated well, but not cluttered.  It offers pillow top/memory foam mattresses, wooden and tile floors (no carpets), wi-fi, flat-screen TV, person ac/heater unit, microwave, mini fridge, Paya-brand soaps & shampoos, and complimentary bottled water & a mini Starbucks coffee station, all in the room.  The one thing I really loved about this Inn was that it was SO CLEAN!  Another convenient and awesome perk is that check-in is 24 hours, so you can literally come in any time, as the front desk is always available.  If you're an animal lover, ask the staff about the miners' donkeys - about a 5-minute drive, these precious animals come down to feed around sun-setting time, so please please PLEASE try to squeeze this experience in!  Wonderful staff, lovely clean rooms, and a beautiful gem of a place, check this place out - you will not be disappointed! :D
