This lovely boutique hotel is certainly not what one expects in small town Arizona; and certainly not expected in Old Town Cottonwood. A group of us reserved the entire hotel, and booked for the "sip and stay" package. The hotel was a completely unexpected and surprisingly wonderful treat. Lovely wood floors, built in cabinets, decadent bedding and a gorgeous bathroom, with its tiled walk in shower, (and stocked with Philosophy products) made for a lovely, stress free, beyond delightful couple of days. We were able to sit out on the front porch and be comfortable and relaxed while we enjoyed our "tasty beverages". One checks in at The Tavern Grille which is just across a small parking lot from the Hotel. Upon check-in, we received vouchers for 2 free cocktails at The Grille, 2 $5 vouchers towards breakfast at The Crema or the Red Rooster, (we chose the Red Rooster), 2 punch cards for wine tastings at 3 local wineries, although one of them had closed,  and a $50 voucher for dinner at Nic's Italian & Seafood restaurant. The restaurants and wineries will be covered in their own reviews. The Tavern Hotel is definitely a place to which we will be returning on a regular basis. It is lovely and comfortable, private and genteel. One feels as though you are enjoying a visit at a private Tuscan villa.

Overnight stay after riding the Verde Valley Tequila Sunset trip....what a fab place!  New, clean, luxuious beds and amazing philosophy bath products!!  Only complaint is the walls between rooms are a bit thin and we were able to overhear the early morning argument happening next door but that is easily rectified by putting your head under any of the 6 or 7 pillows on each bed!  Can't wait for an excuse to run away from the Phoenix area for the weekend to Old Cottonwood and another stay (and diner!) at the Tavern!

Great stay. Awesome room. Photos don't do the Hotel justice. Great location for walking, shopping, eating and drinking :). Mixed emotions on letting people know what a gem this hotel is as I want to be able to stay again and again without it being booked by others. Get the reservation with the giftcard for Nic's Restaurant nearby.

The Tavern Hotel is not what you would expect in small town Arizona, but is one of many reasons to visit Old Town Cottonwood. This place is modern, polished, comfortable and the staff is very friendly. Its central location in town makes this a great jumping off point for a tour of the wineries and shops on Main Street, and their grill is also a good place to grab a bite before or after your wine tasting adventures. Note: the reception for the hotel is located in the restaurant.

What a great place for a weekend getaway. We did the package deal and enjoyed every minute. Our check in was easy next door at the Tavern Grill restaurant and it only took about one minute as they had everything ready for us except to swipe our credit card.

This place is right in the area of all the shops and places to eat so we never moved our car during our stay. We intended to eat at Nic's but ended up eating right in the Tavern Grill as they had a prime rib special that was awesome. Will try Nic's next time there as we heard it is very good.

Lots of interesting shops within walking distance. Saw a lot of interesting antiques and collectibles and the shop owners were cordial.

Our hotel room was extraordinary in every way. Clean, roomy, and looked like no expense was spared to make it a memorable place to visit. There are only 10 rooms but found out later they also have a cottage immediately behind the hotel that is available. We will have to check that out on our next trip there. Cottonwood is a laid back town and we enjoyed it very much.

We also visited Jerome which is close and went to the Old King Mine. It is a really cool place and they have a collection of great old items including trucks, mining equipment and most anything you can think of. To get in you have to go in the gift shop and then go out the back door. If  you do go to Jerome there is a good place to eat there also. It is called the Haunted Hamburger and it is owned by the same people that have the Tavern Grill.

This boutique hotel is a real gem.  We drove into town, jumped onto Yelp to look at the accommodations and saw The Tavern Hotel.  The check in is at the Tavern Restaurant which is about 50 feet in front of the hotel.  The gentlemen who checked us in first gave us a tour of the hotel rooms and then gave us two free drink vouchers which we used at the Tavern (restaurant) while he prepared the paperwork.  We selected the Sip & Stay Wine Package which included some free wine tastes at local wine rooms, 2x $5 credits toward breakfast at Red Rooster or Crema Cafe (we chose Crema), $50 Gift Card for dinner at Nic's Italian Restaurant across the street from the hotel.  The wines at the wine tastings were average although the sommeliers were very personable.  Nic's was good and very affordable for the quality of food.  Breakfast was, well, breakfast.
The room itself was beautiful.  The wood floors and built-in cabinets were rich.  The furnishings fit the feel of the room.  The walk in tile shower felt so good I want to add one to my home.  All in all, a great experience, a great room, great people and a great value.  P.S.  Mention AAA to check for further discounts when available!

Cottonwood isn't really a place you would expect to find a nice, boutique hotel...BUT this place is great!

There are only ten rooms and check-in is at the neighboring Tavern Grille. The owners have decorated like it was their nice, upscale home. Comfortable bed, clean linens, philosophy products, and a walk-in shower.  Add a free drink at check-in and breakfast ($5 credit per person @ Red Rooster) and I'm completely sold.

The location on Main St. means you are able to walk the tasting rooms at AZ Stronghold, Pillsbury and the Wine Cellar in minutes.

Did a spur of moment trip from Scottsdale... Nice breakaway... Got one of packages:  room and several gift certificates.. Pleased with value, room was lovely, the certificates for wine tasting, cocktails, dinner and morning coffee were a great value and places we went we enjoyed.  Kudos to Cottonwood for updating old town... Wine tasting, antiques and fun shops and restaurants.. Would go back and recommend...

We were staying in Cottonwood to relax and sample some of the wines for a couple days. We have done this before and usually stay at a B&B, but we saw this lovely inn when we were downtown last year and decided to give it a try. It is pricey (compared to a local B&B) but so worth it! The rooms are modern and lovely...plush bedding and a large walk in shower. I only wish there was a small table with chairs in the room. We sat out on the veranda of the inn most of the time because of that. The room comes with a free drink in the Tavern Grill and continental breakfast at the coffee place across the street.

This little boutique hotel is years ahead of the rest of cottonwood. I used to visit the area as a kid with my family, and I wanted to return as an adult for a weekend getaway.

The price was well worth the room alone ($338 for a 2 night stay) PLUS you get $50 at Nic's Italian steakhouse, complimentary cocktails at check in, wine tasting vouchers at three different places within walking distance, and vouchers for breakfast at one of two cafes across the street. I also discovered that if you check in to the hotel you can get another $25 discount at Nic's down the street. Bonus!

Add in the built in reading lights on the headboard, gorgeous wood flooring, quiet and relaxing ambiance, beautiful tile walk in shower, and philosophy travel size body care, and this place is PERFECT. Well done!!

We stayed here for one night in September 2014. The Tavern Hotel was a fantastic place to stay to be able to visit the wineries around Cottonwood. The room is very big with a great shower and comfy bed. Good coffee and you get breakfast across the street. My only complaints are the light from the AC was very bright and annoying and there are no curtains for the windows (just shades). I would definitely stay again.

This place is fantastic. We stayed in the Penthouse, and all I can say is WOW!! Beautiful, clean and big.  Love the décor, the owners have excellent taste.  It's 3 bedrooms, 2 & half bathrooms, 5 plasma screen TVs, lovely big kitchen, 3 balcony's. It's located above the Tavern Grille.  It's where the owners previous lived and now they have converted it into the Penthouse.  It's a luxury condo and we cannot wait to go back next year and stay again in the suite.  Loved the Tavern Grille, great food and everyone is very friendly.  Excellent value!!!!

We heard that it was fairly ridiculous to pay the hotel costs in Sedona when Cottonwood is so close offering much better prices.

We checked out hotels online and came to a screeching halt when we saw the photos for the Tavern Hotel.

Boutique Hotels are our favorite... (when they are done right)

The photos and the "Sip & Stay" package sold us.
The question was... would the gloss photos live up to the reality?

We have stayed in some fabulous boutique hotels in SanFrancisco, this hotel, (hands down) beats them all. We were amazed by the spaciousness, the warmth, the depth, the decor, the plush bedding, the lighting, the room cooling system... everything!

It was a joy to sleep in that room!

When you add the value of complimentary cocktails, a $50 dinner certificate, complementary wine tasting, and a cool, cool breakfast at Crema Cafe, it all makes for a great overnight experience!

Tavern Hotel we're coming back to Cottonwood becuase of you!

Stay in the cottage if you can.  Isn't much more than a room, and is great! 2 bedrooms, full kitchen, back yard, front and back patios.  Well worth it.  Very modern and nice inside also.

Wow. Did not expect this in Cottonwood. Very modern, clean good sized rooms, big tiled walk in shower. Included 2 drinks at the bar and 2 free breakfasts coupons at either of 2 local restaurants. Great location. Bit strange checking in at the bar but all the staff were super friendly. Cannot wait to go back.

Very nicely decorated place! Room was great. There's an annoying fluorescent blue light that shines on you through your nights sleep. My husband had to throw a pair of jeans onto it (wall air conditioning unit) so that we could actually sleep. That was our only qualm besides our bedroom floor being very sticky and filmy from a dirty mop being used. Besides that it was truly the most beautifully decorated hotel room we've ever stayed in!

Return visit to the Tavern and it was terrific, stayed 2 nights on their wine package which included dinner card at Nic's restaurant across the street (great food!), wine tastings at cool tasting rooms right down the street, and a comp drink when we checked in (front desk is the Tavern Grille...very cool).  Melissa greeted us when we checked in and filled us in on new stuff including their new pizzeria down the street where we ate the second night.  Pizzeria Bocce is awesome!

Highly recommend the hotel for convenience to all the wineries and dining plus we really like the piles of pillows and stone bathroom with walk in shower and Philosophy products - nice touch!

GREAT TIME...superbly comfortable hotel in a beautiful little downtown area.  We took  my parents to Cottonwood for a train ride along the Verde River and had a wonderful time there.  Hotel was a big comfortable surprise.  The people were great too.  Definitely worth going back again!

Stayed in the Cottage. Had a great time up in Cottonwood with some good friends. That always makes things better.

As for the cottage, I felt like I played repairman a bit too much while there. Should I send them a check for changing out their air filters that hadn't been changed in over 4 months by the look of it? Maybe!

The beds were great, 2 nice bedrooms, 1 of them has 2 beds squeezed in there and its way too cramped.

The front an back door have huge gaps in them that light and air can come in through, possibly bugs. I tried to seal them better but didn't have the weather stripping.

Nice place overall. The cottage is OLD, yes its larger than the other rooms but id say that I personally found the newer smaller rooms to be a bit nicer.

Oh yea, make sure and try breakfast at the Red Rooster across the street!

WOW!!! We were blown away with how incredible this place is. We stayed in the penthouse with our friends Saturday night and it exceeded all of our expectations. It was immaculately gorgeous and felt like staying in a (super nice) house, not a hotel. We didnt want to leave. The penthouse has 3 bedrooms and 3 baths, huge beautiful kitchen and living room/dining room. Also a really nice balcony with a fireplace. I cant recommend this place enough. We are definitely coming back!

With a couple of very small exceptions, our stay here was about as good as you can get.  We loved the hotel, the room, the décor, the staff, the location and the friendly vibe that whole area radiated.  The two items that needed improvement were the lighting (or lack of) which consisted of 60 or 40 watt incandescent bulbs in the lamps!  Since the décor was dark, (deep greens and maroons and wood tones) and so were the shades, it was really dim.  We actually went out and bought CFLs to put in!  The other item was the floor in the bedroom area; due to either the product they used, or not rinsing mops or something, the floor was very sticky.  This was noticed in another review elsewhere.  The flooring in the bath did not have the same problem, as it was tile. The bathroom was elegant, with an enormous walk in shower.  The shelving/closet rod area was perfectly designed and held all we needed.  Nice little niches for everything.

Since we did the train package, our tickets were waiting for us at the depot, which was great.  All the little extra touches, such as the tray with glasses, were just a bonus.  Included also were vouchers for breakfast at one of two cafes, and drink vouchers at the Tavern Grille. The Grille is great also, with good food, good service and just a fun place to be.  The fact that it is in the old Rialto Theater makes it really interesting (including the charred walls from the fire that shut it down).  The whole area is loaded with history and a fun place to explore, including the tasting rooms up and down Main Street. We will be back and now know to book well in advance - this place is in great demand!

Beautiful hotel with a lot of nice touches. Bartender/front desk check in person was really nice as well as the manager. Would definitely bring others here since it is so clean, well thought out and a good value. The only issue we had was with the cleaning lady who gave us a dirty look for having a service dog even though we noted it in our online reservation. I know this is not a dog friendly hotel, but the lady was unnecessarily rude.

We just spent a couple nights at The Tavern Hotel.  I would highly recommend this place if staying in Cottonwood. The room was very nice, well decorated, and had everything we needed. It is a small quiet boutique hotel. The bed was very comfortable. It is in walking distance to the tasting rooms and some very good restaurants. The owners also own three restaurants in old town and we ate at all three. The food was delicious at all of them. A very cute old town with plenty to do in the area.

First off I must inform about their odd, unique (check-in that is adjacent to their business The Tavern Grill.) Don't try to get through the hotel, you won't get in and there is no staff present. It was a very different process and not one that I cared for. As you check-in at The Tavern Grill you walk in and immediately state you are a hotel guest because it's confusing to check-in at the bar and you are easily distinguished as a restaurant or bar patron.

Although, that threw us for a loop, there was a lot of pluses and greats about this wonderful place!  It appears to be newly renovated with a modern design, it's very beautiful inside and out. Other unique things about this hotel they offer and display in the common hallway, loaners of: a mini library of books/novels, games and fresh fruit of apples to enjoy.

The rooms are top notch. Extremely clean, cozy, and comfortable. One of the most beautifully designed rooms with unusual extras: iPod doc station, coffee and tea, Philosophy brand: shampoos, conditioner, lotion and soaps, the Philosophy hair conditioner incredible!!!!!!!! We stayed in the double queen room and although very nice, I felt as though it was small in size. It seems there is too much cluttering the room in furnishings and too many throw, accent pillows. The bathroom sink is much taller than average with the exposed rounded sink above the already tall counter was challenging for me to use while getting ready. But for someone several inches taller than me may not have an issue. Anyways, those were minor issues. I still loved it personally.

We scored with a fab deal!!!! For a small upgrade fee we were provided many benefits for being guests here! (2) vouchers for the following: any complimentary drink at The Tavern Grill, continental breakfast at Red Rooster or another Cafe place, $50 gift card for Nic's Italian Steak and Seafood (plus another $25 for Nic's with promo check-in on Yelp!), totaling $75 gift card!!!!

We also received complimentary wine tasting at 3 local wine companies. However, the tasting is really a tease! You can only try one wine and it's poured of a sample not a true tasting. What's super cool also is the Owners of this hotel also have 5 or 6 other local places they own which is crazy and doing well!! Other business include: The Tavern Grill, Bucci Pizza, Haunted Hamburger and several others.

You've got to visit Cottonwood! There are so many wineries in the area, this little town has a lot of variety and it's a fantastic place to visit!!!! I can't wait to return and stay only at The Tavern Hotel. Next time I would love to stay in "the cottage" room! :)

Places we LOVED: Page Springs Cellars, The Tavern Hotel, Nic's and Red Rooster!!!!!!! (See my reviews for all of these great places!!) Super friendly and humble area.

As expected from all of the amazing reviews.  We stayed on the Cottage this last weekend. It was cute and quaint and relaxing. Right in the middle of Old Town. Easy walking to all the shops and bars. Guest staff and the locals were all very friendly. Thanks for the great stay!

Planned a girls weekend up to Cottonwood and had the pleasure of staying in the Bocce Room.  The place couldn't have been more perfect!  Great decor, comfortable beds, and the patio space was awesome to just hang out and listen to the nightlife below!  The only thing that could have made it better would have been to have stayed longer.  I highly recommend checking this place out.  Main St had such great restaurants and I can't wait to come back!

My husband and I decided to come up to Cottonwood for the weekend to celebrate my birthday and do the Verde Canyon Railroad ride. I started looking at The Tavern Hotel because they have a package where you can get the railroad tickets and hotel together but we ended up doing the "Sip and Stay" package instead and buying the rail tickets separately because I thought that was a better deal. With that package we got free breakfast, a $50 gift card that you could use at either The Tavern or Nic's restaurant plus 4 wine tastings. I will say I was a little disappointed by the wine tasting because I had assumed it would be a full flight but really it was just one taste of one wine at each place. And one of the locations was a distillery not a winery so I wasn't interested in that. Also, the breakfast coupons don't entitle you to a free breakfast either, it is only $5 off at either Crema or Red Rooster... both of which are kind of overpriced so the $5 doesn't even cover half your meal. Just keep that in mind when looking at the value of the package. That is the main reason I had to subtract a star.

The rooms were so nice that I would stay here again even without the free wine tasting or restaurant coupons however. They were completely renovated in a very upscale and modern way. I really liked the décor in the room. I especially loved the hardwood floors which were much nicer than the nasty carpet that is usually in hotel rooms. The linens and towels were basic but new looking. It ended up being cold and rainy that weekend and the heater in the room worked great and we slept nice and cozy. Our room did not have any kind of a view but the hotel is in a really great central location so you can easily walk to anything you would want to do in Old Town Cottonwood. I do agree with the other reviewers that it is a little weird to check in at the bar but I can understand why since the hotel just doesn't have that many rooms. Since we already knew what to do from reading the Yelp reviews it wasn't a big deal.

GORGEOUS rooms in a small boutiquey-hotel right on Main Street in Cottonwood.  The decor is beautiful and modern.  Rooms are extremely clean and have spotless bathrooms.  The shower is huge with a rainshower, if memory serves, and great water pressure.  When you stay here they give you vouchers to use at The Tavern Grille nextdoor.  So nice.  Can't wait to get up to Cottonwood again and stay here!!
