Don't bother with this place unless you are a deep, deep sleeper. One of the most disappointing Best Western's I've ever stayed in. The hotel is located in a so-so neighborhood that looks like it might be on the way up. Directly across from a very nice looking library and convenient to downtown. I sense they have had problems in the past given their sign to limit their liability. "Public access to this area can't be controlled. Hotel liability limited." The property consists of multiple buildings. I was in the one (rooms # 100-125 & 200-225)  across the moat from what looked like the main building. The place reeked of air freshener that they must get by the 50gal drum. It still doesn't cover the basic funk of an older hotel. The worst part of this hotel was the tissue thin walls and gaps around the hallway door and the connecting door to the next room. You could hear everything. My neighbors came back to their room about 2AM or so. I don't think they were being loud the sound just carried. Sound carried from the hallway too. Didn't make for a very restful sleep. When I mentioned the issue to the front desk when i checked out the clerk gave me the dead man walking look and said he would mention it to his supervisor. Decent sized room with some upgrades but an overall grubby appearance. A previous review mentions the ongoing roofing work. There were pallets of roofing tile staged around the property so I sense this will be going on for a while. The free breakfast buffet was as low rent as you could go and still be considered breakfast.

We stayed here in late October and found the location and staff to be excellent.  Rooms were large, clean, and nicely furnished.  Location is right next to wonderful Mill Creek Canal, a perfect setting for strolling along the water.  We noticed that close by is a large cinema complex and Rabobank stadium.  Apparently lots to do in the immediate area.  Front desk personnel were friendly and knowledgeable, room rate was reasonable. We will definitely recommend Hill House to anyone traveling to or through Bakersfield.

This hotel is fair considering it's price.  The rooms were sparse compared to other Best Westerns. There was a refrigerator, but it was turned off when I arrived.  There was no microwave.  The lobby was surprisingly nice, but that isn't where I hang out.  I did not make the included continental breakfast so cannot comment.

Having stayed in my fair share of motels, this one is not too bad. The staff were very friendly, the room was clean and quiet. Even with the train tracks not too far off, I didn't hear it. The free breakfast was good with items like fresh fruit, oatmeal, cereal, muffins and pastries. We were put on the second floor and one of the cleaning staff even carried our luggage up the stairs (no elevators). As motels go, I would definitely stay here again.

The smell of the cleaning solution actually made my guy physically ill. We called to see if they had a room that didn't smell so strongly and they told us that all rooms smell that way. After an hour in the room with the window open, the smell still didn't dissipate. However, overnight with the window open finally revealed why the lemon smell was so strong....whatever they were covering with the lemon smell was even worse.  The bed spread had holes in it.  The staff was not friendly.  I can't really find anything good to say about this hotel.

I like that the upstairs rooms have plantation shutters on the windows, it's a nice touch that you don't normally see.
Also, there is plenty of TV channels to pick from. Big library right across the street.

Stopped here halfway to Yosemite and couldn't get out fast enough in the morning. General Manager was rude. Front desk clerk...rude. Had to go to front desk to get pool towels (the size of hand towels) and they reluctantly give them out (after waiting for 3 guests to check in even though they knew I just needed towels). Said the cost of washing all those pool towels (4 towels for 4 of us in room) was hurting their profits. Room was hot, a/c barely worked and there was a homeless man sleeping right out side our window. We brought our bikes into our room for fear of them being stolen off the bike rack overnight. On the upside - the free breakfast buffet was nice and they replenished often. Try the Mexican restaurant behind the hotel for some great mexican food within walking distance. Will have horrible memories driving past Bakersfield and will not ever consider stopping again.

Loved it. It was exactly what we needed.
The decor was updated and comfortable, ac units worked really well, the pool was clean and updated, it was very clean and the shower had great pressure.  The continental breakfast in the morning was good. A nice variety of breads, muffins, and donuts, coffees, tea and juice, and a make your own waffle station. Beware it shuts down at 9am on the spot, even on Sunday. Nothing left for latecomers.
There was a neat look at where part of the Kern River is directed through Bakersfield just behind the hotel.

I'm a native Californian and I've never stopped in Bakersfield before, not even for gas. The town itself was more or less what I expected, and same with the hotel. But I gotta give a extra thumbs up to this place simply for the proximity to the Mill Creek river walk. It's right behind the hotel and was a great place for a nighttime stroll once the temperature had cooled to the mid 80's. The kids loved the playground a .25 mile from the hotel. ... As for the hotel itself, pretty decent room, slightly above average breakfast in the morning, slightly below average pool (no towels, a bit dirty and one gate wouldn't even open), and A/C is a bit noisy. ... One additional thing I noticed was this place had rooms with 2 queen size beds, which at least 3 other places in Bakersfield did not (only full size beds). Not sure if it's a regional thing or not, but that was a major factor in my deciding to stay here to begin with. The Mill Creek river walk was just a pleasant bonus.

Where do I start?  When we arrived the entire entry and parking lot were blocked off as they'd just been re-paved.  My mother is disabled so I had to check us in and leave her in the car...a block away.  When I requested a room that would be close to parking I was rudely asked why I hadn't requested a handicapped room.  The staff member's name was Malari.  I explained my mother isn't wheelchair bound and so doesn't require a different type of room.  I asked why they hadn't indicated they would be paving on the day of our arrival instead.  She was VERY rude...and I believe she purposefully placed us in rooms next to the main entry, ice machine, and not next to each other.  The door keys don't work.  The hall and even the rooms smelled, very heavily, of cigarettes.  We went for a late swim but were constantly interrupted by the owner/manager and a huge party they were having.  In addition there were shady characters walking through the property at all hours as the parking lot provides an easy short cut.  The alarm in the room NEXT to us went off at 3am and it took me a good 5 minutes to explain to the reception desk what was going on and what needed done.  It woke up myself, my husband, our 20-month old and our 4-month old.  At 3am.  There was no cream for the coffee in the room.  The price is obscene for the value.  The breakfast was nice and the staff that day were pleasant.  My entire opinion of this hotel is based on the staff member that first "greeted" us...Malari.

I stayed with a group of people at this hotel. It started when I made my initial reservation. The hotel had the wrong date. I called back and changed it. 3 weeks later I was billed for the rooms gutting my bank account. The hotel itself blamed Best Western Corporate Office. It took four days to get my money back. I was given a $40 gift card by Best Western Corporate. I was told I could not use it on my stay because they wanted me to use it another time. The hotel itself blamed me for the initial mess up. They told me it was my fault for NOT booking directly through the hotel itself.

The customer service SUCKS at this hotel. They take no blame and blame the corporate office... do yourself a favor and FIND A DIFFERENT HOTEL

We travel alot, as my Son plays Disc Golf Professionally. We rented a room for 3 days.
We checked in and the attendant was very sweet and helpful. We got to our room and it seemed clean until, the bathroom. The tub mat was so rotted to the bottom of the tub it floated to the top of the water, while my youngest daughter tried to take a bubble bath. Then the tub, after we threw out the mat, the glazing starting coming off and  floating. Yuck. The toilet seat was so grungy, with what seemed like body oils that we had to use tissue as a seat covers. I called the Helpful attendant and she insisted that housekeeping personnel will be up to my room first thing in the AM. We keft at 7:30am and didnt come back until 2:30. No one had done anything. I called to the desk, a different gal who was really rude, said she "would see but, housekeeping leaves at 3" so basically I was SOL. Called the Night person, new person, and they were useless. I asked them to just bring me cleanser and rags and I would frickin do it myself.
They have a pool but, its never heated. They list Room Service, They do NOT have Room Service.  The vent/heater system in the room had so much cruddy dust and lint that is was only whisping air out. The dirt inside was so bad, it set off the fire alarm in our room.
on the SAFETY SIDE: none of the Fire Extinguishers in the halls, DO NOT have extinguishers, how do they not get pegged by the FIRE DEPARTMENT dont they check them?
I have talked tho three different gals here, and I am still paying $300+ for my reservation and still hav to clean a bathroom myself.
TV's only have half volume so, dont be remotely hard of hearing.
Crazy parking lot, no signs so you better be sure you know how to find your room, as you go though what looks like a mini gold course. VERY Poor Layout.what  looks like a Mini golf course bridge, with NO SIGNAGE, bring a compass.
BUT, there is a sad bar in the lobby.
    Good Luck.

I stayed at the "Best Western Plus: Hill House" in Bakersfield, CA on 8/4/2012.  It was my first time there.  It was great.  It is walking distance to most of the most important places in Bakersfield (Convention Center, Amtrak Station, etc.).  You get free high speed Internet and a free continental breakfast all for under $90.00 a night.  And you can begin your morning with a pleasant walk along Mill Creek like I did.

I've stayed at Best Western Hill House numerous times over the years when visiting family in Bakersfield (corner of Truxton and Q Street) and I must say that I was very pleased when I again stayed there last week for a few days.  Always price-conscience and looking for "best deals", and because it had been a few years since my last visit I checked the rates and reviews of other local hotels in my price range before deciding to return to Hill House.  After disqualifying one hotel after another for repeated undesirable review points my search brought me back to Hill House, but, before actually checking in I asked to see the room beforehand as I wanted to see if the rooms had been maintained as in the past.  I walked in the room (on the 2nd floor in the building immediately adjacent to the front office with a south (?) view of the parking lot and the office) and was very happy to see that not only had it had been maintained satisfactorily but it appeared to have been upgraded.  The room was very clean, the bath tub and commode looked new, the tub equipped with a completely filled shampoo, hair conditioner, and soap dispenser, and a convenient soap dispenser above the sink; the mattress was extremely comfortable and firm-- which I noticed right away since I wouldn't have accepted the room if was too soft or hard for my sensitive back-- and the sheets (I inspected) were in excellent condition.  The room was equipped with the usual coffee maker and ironing board with an adequate closet.  Being on the 2nd floor I decided to sleep with my window slightly open instead of using the air conditioner so I can't say if it was working properly but it appeared to be in fine working order.  With the comfortable mattress, and luckily with no loud racket from neighboring rooms or any street noises, I slept extremely well.  I didn't get up early enough for breakfast so I can't comment on it; the pool looked clean as I passed it to check out the new "river walk" added behind my building where you can take a walk and take advantage of the benches to take a quiet break.  It was great to see that in spite of these restricting financial times that management has been able to maintain the Hill House as well as it has, and needless to say, if management continues to do so I will continue to stay there whenever I visit Bakersfield.

I came to Bakersfield for an interview and I needed a quick stay. This place is good for quick stay purpose. the staff was friendly, they had free toiletries and free breakfast which was nice. the room was very clean. the hotel was pretty full so they booked us a handicap room. i thought the handicap room was pretty cool and they conveniently have dispensers for everything like soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The noise level was ok nothing loud, but then again it was a wednesday night. overall i am satisfied with the stay.

Meh. Not worth the $100. Staff was very nice and helpful. Hotel looks really nice from the outside. Room was decent... nothing to rave about. We came back to our room around midnight to find a roach on the lamp on the night stand. As we checked out I informed the reception of the roach; they apologized but that was it. I would not stay here again.

Got a good price on the Priceline bidding site.

Motel is in a quiet area across the street from the library and Amtrak station.  I did not hear any noise during the night either from other rooms or traffic on the street.  The room was clean and the TV was a nice flat screen.

The only thing that needs to be changed in the room is that they need new lampshades.  Other than that it was a perfectly acceptable stay.

The breakfast provided in the morning looked to be okay.  I saw that they had coffee, rolls, bagels, scrambled eggs, sausage, waffles etc.  I can't tell you how they tasted because we intended to head over to Donna Kayes for a big, good enough to hold you until dinner, breakfast.

I have stayed here twice now and both times I have had a nice and quiet stay. The staff I have encountered were very friendly, smiling and accommodating. I have stayed in the back building both times (over the canal, trust me it's not as far as it might sound) and both times I was impressed with the large and very clean room. The folks who run this place know what they are doing.
If you are looking for fancy accomodations, this isn't the place but if you need a clean, quiet place to rest your head for the night that has a decent breakfast buffet, then I highly recommend it.
While I don't see an overnight stay in Bakersfield in my future any time soon (though I admit I never thought I would have to stay overnight in Bakersfield ever) I would definitely come back to stay.

Pros--Close to Rabobank Arena.  Nice, updated TV, and free internet which was fast and free ;)
Cons--Run down carpet, vending machines were empty (at least on my floor).  Not that many parking spaces.

I'd probably rather stay at the Marriott, as it is much more cleaner and the bar is way better....and it isn't that much more than Best Western.

Not the best experience. We showed up after midnight and we were greeted at the lobby door with a handwritten sign stating that the door was locked, knock or call some number?  They entered my name wrong in the computer so I did not get my Best Western reward points. Their was a guy fishing out of the canal at 1am right where we parked this in addition to them locking the lobby door and the whole setup gave us an overall unsettling feeling.
They tried to fix it in the morning which is the only reason they are getting a second star.

My wife spent the nite on 11.23.13.  Place was overwhelming smelling, trying to mask the odor of something in the room.  Rooms carpet had many many spots of varying size and color.  Yellow stain on my bedding sheet by my face had me cringing, and in the morning I had 75 bug bites on my whole upper body.  See attached picture.  I have been to the doctor and found out that I am not dealing with just bed bugs, which is bad enough, but parasites that have laid their eggs in my body.  If not treated with $130 cream and $10 shampoo, I will spread parasites to my home and other family members.  This has and continues to be miserable, expensive, and disgusting.

Please reconsider supporting this property.  I don't wish this experience on my worst enemy.  Saving a few bucks with your service, only to pay through the nose in medical costs and suffering are not worth it.

I have to agree that the hallway area of the building I was in smelled stale, with a mix of cleaning chemicals.  I understand you don't want to have uninvited guests strolling around the halls, but some ventilation could help (by the way, not the only hotel that has this issue.)  The room was ok, there were some pretty nasty stains on the chair, A/C worked fine, there were 2 or 3 thermostats though, easy to see how a previous reviewer got confused.  Kind of a weird smell from the bed linens, not really sure how to describe it.  I don't like the idea of bulk shampoo dispensers, no telling what makes it's way in there, even if it is locked.   Carpet was kind of beat up, the wood in the entry to the building I was in looked like it was nice at some point, but needs some TLC.  I won't stay there again.

The short version: The BW HH near Rabobot Arena is a loud, mostly clean motel with poor security.

    The long version:
WHOA THIS PLACE IS LOUD. I hear the heavy wood and glass doors to the outside every time they open and slam closed. I'm up late hearing people walking in the hallway to their rooms, or using the worlds loudest ice machine in the hallway.

The AC unit in our room was unplugged when we arrived so the room was hot and muggy. When we plugged it in, we found it to be surprisingly loud, but at least it cooled the room quickly---it also drowned out the traffic noise.

MOSTLY CLEAN. The halls, and especially the room smells stongly of commercial cleanser. The rooms and beds did appear clean, but the smell was overwhelming when we first arrived. I requested they not clean our room for the 2nd night. With the cleanser smell gone, we could fully enjoy the musty old-motel smell.

My bed doesn't have a comforter, but instead a sheet and airplane style blanket. Worse, they made my bed with the top sheet above the blanket, so your skin is against the blanket instead of the clean top sheet.

The TV is laughable, a little old 90s CRT box with built in VHS/DVD combo player.

THE BREAKFAST BUFFET FLOWS ABUNDANTLY. My boss enjoyed make-your-own waffles and I was surprised to find scrambled eggs and breakfast sausage next to the usual muffins, donettes, yogurt, and oatmeal.

THEY MESSED UP ALL OUR KEY CARDS.  After a 12 hour Chartec Acadamy followed by drinking and cigars, all 6 of us returned to find nobody's room keys worked. We all paraded back across the bridge to the office to get replacement keys. The receptionist had the gal to suggest that the key cards can be demagnetized if you expose them to magnets. I asked: "for all 6?".

SECURITY ALERT: When the receptionist re-issued keys she asked us all what rooms we needed keys for and I drunkenly provided the wrong numbers. She started creating key cards for us before my colleague corrected me. She gave us 6 room keys without even asking our names.

There are also signs outside explaining the hotel will not be liable for the security outside the various buildings or in the parking lot.

I GUESS I'M SPOILED but I look for safe hotels with down pillows, big soft towels, and if I'm lucky, a clean pool and hot tub. This is not that.

BONUS TIP: look for baby ducklings by the river in the morning, and I swear I saw a small fox in the parking lot around 11pm.

The fact that this hotel is being touted as a 3-star property is obscene. First off, I have seen motels that are far superior in modernly appointed rooms and cleanliness. I'm not trying to say the place was filthy, but since this place was probably last renovated during the Reagan administration, you might feel uncomfortable to walk around bare footed.

Here are some observations I made:

The iron is chained to the ironing board and will fall off the board if it is not being held at all times. I guess theft is an issue here.

The carpeting is green and brown which is excellent for masking stains. My feet were greasy after walking around.

The beige paint and dingy interior makes you feel like this hotel was featured in a scary movie.

The room was musty and an atrocious amount of cheap air freshener was present in the hallways.

This motel....oops, I mean "hotel" is not 3-star quality. It would barely be passable for a 2-star rating. This is the reason for my review. Don't be mislead by the rating which I am wondering how they got. Bribery perhaps?

Not from the area? The 2 star Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express in town are as good as the Four Seasons in comparison to this place...and they are rated 2-star. If the rating scale was based on this places rating, they would be at least a 6 star resort.

This hotel/motel was just okay. I know for a fact I would have gotten a better deal elsewhere but I didn't book this.

The room for 1 night was $95 plus a $15 pet fee, which was not mentioned when we booked through hotels.com ... lame.

We got to the hotel at 1pm and as soon as we walked through the doors there was an extremely strong smell of bleach/chemicals... Yuck, did someone die or something?

Also when we parked I felt unsafe because there was some homeless guy going through the trash as we were getting our luggage out of our car.

In the morning we had some of the so called 7/11 breakfast, which was not good at all and was helped by a very unenthusiastic person at the front desk. If you are going to help people you must be a people person... no matter how early in the morning it is.

In a nutshell I would prefer to NOT stay here ever again.

Surprised at the poor reviews. What are people expecting here? It's a hotel. Clean beds, clean bathroom, and a flat screen tv. Exactly what I'm paying for. It's not gonna be a resort and yes, the price is 100 bucks, but it definitely is worth it to ensure the quality you'd expect from a best western.

Overall, this place is what you pay for and then some. Rooms are clean, no extra frills unless you count the tops on the curtains. Try to get a room directly behind the main check in office so it makes getting FREE breakfast as simple as a fee feet to the next building. The pool is perfect to take a few laps before you hit up the simple, yet effective mini gym. Place for me whenever in Bakersfield.

I stayed here for one day in 222, in the far building across the pool. This hotel is somewhere between a motel and a hotel. The hotel is divided into smaller buildings you have to drive to to get to your room. The A/C worked fine. The building I was in had a minimal exercise room. There was a pool. It definitely had more than the usual amenities. The King-sized room comes with a fridge and coffee pot. However, the tables and night stands were slightly damaged at the corners. The shampoo and soap were from dispensers, which was off-putting. Other than that, everything was what I would expect from an entry-level hotel.
There was a complimentary breakfast, which had more than average options for food: eggs, sausages, muffins, donuts, juice, coffee, oatmeal. However, the eggs were sour.
+1 amenities. -1 soap dispenser? -1 sour eggs.

The people that work here are a paradox of helpful but not friendly. They let me borrow their stapler and staple remover for work, but they were not 'all-smiles' as you would expect the front desk to be.
+1 helpful. -1 but not friendly.

There was still soap scum on the shower head from the previous people in the room. They have a special Clean Remote, and took the time to put it in a little box that said it was clean, it had a special material that made it easier for the maids to clean, and it was white so you could see if it was dirty. It was actually crusty, and I refused to touch it.
Despite the room dirtiness the hallway and lobby were very clean and somewhat classy (book cases have this ability to class a place up somehow). The hotel is located near a small park dedicated to its sister city. It has a cool looking windmill, and a fancy bridge. It is centrally located to what you'd probably call attractions in Bakersfield, such as Dewar's and the conference center.
-2 filthy rooms. +1 centrally located.

We checked in today after booking on Priceline. I bought the Express Deal for 68.00 plus tax and fees and I purchased two rooms. The hotel was advertised as 3 stars. Once we arrived the staff were pleasant but informed me if I wanted two beds instead of a king it was $15.00 more per room. I needed two beds per room so I paid the difference. My total with tax was approx. 100.00 + per room. The rooms were older but decent decor but this hotel is not a 3 star. I would rate it 2-2 1/2. I am guessing the rating is higher due to on site restaurant. The pool area had no towels and when I went to the front desk they said towels were in our room closets...how would we know that once we are at the pool and are rooms are pretty far from the pool? I have stayed at other hotels in the Bakersfield area and would chose them next time over this older, more worn Hotel.

Average hotel experience. As soon as I got here, I smelled Bakersfield's manure aroma. *shudder* Check-in went smoothly, and the staff was friendly and polite.

We reserved a handicapped room on accident, but we ended up loving it because of the convenient dispensers for hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The room was clean and polished.

    Some of their perks include:
    - Free breakfast everyday 6am - 9am.
    - Free toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, shaving cream, etc.)
    - Free WIFI. Bring your laptops!

For $90/night, it wasn't too bad, but I wish it were a little cheaper. Check-out is 11am, so make sure to set an alarm!

    BED BUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Our stay was from 8/3-8/6 {2013}
    BED BUG ROOM was 230
We went to Bakersfield to visit some family members.  At first glance, the room was very nice and clean.  You can see the pictures I took of the room on the first day.

As soon as we got there, we dumped our stuff off, and went straight to meet our family at a restaurant.  We got back later that evening, and pretty much went straight to bed. The next morning, I got up early to use the restroom, and noticed a small bug in the bathtub.  It looked like a baby roach. I thought, "That's just great...roaches", and I ran to get my phone from the bedroom to take pics.  Then when I was done with the pics, I went back to the bedroom to choose my clothes so I could take a shower.  When I got back to the shower, the baby "roach" was gone. I assumed it had crawled down the drain.

After that we went to go have our free breakfast.  The eggs were definitely not eggs...and the consistency was bizarre. But the waffles were good. Coffee was good, and I loved the Guava juice.  We went straight back out to spend the day with family, and got back later that eve.  But during our time out, I looked through the pictures on my phone, and zoomed in on the cockroach.....which was NOT a cockroach after all, but a bed bug!!!!!!  So as soon as we walked into the room that night, we went straight to the bed, and looked at the sheets & mattresses near the headboard.  And there they were.....a BUNCH of BED BUGS!!!!!

I immediately picked up the hotel phone, and called the front desk.  Like a ton of other reviewers state.....the girl (Malari) was VERY rude.  I very calmly and nicely told her that we had a problem in our room, and that problem was an infestation of BED BUGS.  She gave a sound of disgust and non-belief, "Uh.....we don't have bed bugs in this hotel".  So she basically called me a liar!  I told her that if she doesn't believe me, send someone over because all the proof is right here....in both beds!  She said, "I'll send someone" and hung up the phone! She acted like I had just interrupted her in the middle of her favorite movie!

The manager came, with camera in hand.  As soon as we showed her, she said, "Oh yeah...those are bed bugs", and put us in another room. She was very nice, apologetic and not rude at all. We checked the beds in the new room, and everything seemed fine.

I'm really surprised that they didn't comp us our room....at LEAST for that first night!  We tried to take every precaution to not bring any bugs to our new room with us.  We shook everything off in the old room, and placed clothing in plastic bags and tied them tightly.  But, unfortunately, as I'm sure many people have had happen, they snuck a ride home, and we've been living in a nightmare ever since. I'll post a pic of just my arm.....but I'm not sure if they will keep it up.  Same with pics of the bugs.

If not for the BED BUGS, I would have rated this place a 2 or 3 star based on the following pros and cons, but because it DID have BED BUGS it only got a 1 STAR:

    PROS:
    -it was "seemingly" clean
    - quiet (didn't hear people in hallways, outside traffic etc)
    - lotion, shampoo, conditioner dispensers were kind of cool
    - some free breakfast is better than no breakfast at all
    - management was nice
    - WiFi worked well
    - needed key card just to get into building (felt safer)

    CONS:
    -  BeD bUgS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    -  Rude attendant at desk (Malari) She was actually kind of ok when we checked in, but the next night with the BeD bUGS incident.....oh, nuh-uh!
    -  there was mold in the coffee pot left from who knows how long ago
    -  1st room had iron, but no ironing board
    -  a/c was VERY loud
    - tv is set to only go to a set volume (which is pretty low, especially when running the a/c)

FYI:  After this incident, I found out that there is a "BED BUG Registry" ( bedbugregistry.com )  It's easier if you only punch in the city and state on their site, and it will show you hotels and/or addresses that have BED BUG reports.
Turns out that this hotel had a report on it on 10/19/2011.

This Best Western Plus is an alright place for a stopover. I have stayed at nicer Best Western Plus but this one is really just a step up from a motel. It is Bakersfield after all so don't expect too much. Room is in decent shape and the bed is comfortable. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful. No issue even when we have an unexpectedly late check-in.

I've stayed at a few nice Best Westerns but this is not one if them. I was driving down to SoCal and just needed a room for the night that was not too expensive.

When I arrived to my room I could not get my air conditioning to work. When I went to the front desk the girl asked me which one I was trying to use? I was using to wall one that had the directions posted hear the door. Apparently those ones do not actually work and I should be using the setting on the aid conditioner under the window. Just open the metal box and read. Thank you front desk girl for talking to me like I'm an idiot... And maybe you should tell people this...or getter yet - remove one if the systems that does not work?

The hallway of the hotel was a mix of cleaning solution and stale cigarettes. Lots of families here since its cheap, free breakfast and pool. Next time I'll pass on hearing kids crying, rude staff and strange smells.

There is a reason why this hotel is sooo cheap.

This is my second time staying at this hotel and I have to say I am very impressed. When you walk in the room smells nice, is very clean and the decor is modernized. There is a clean pool outside and in the front office a good restaurant and bar. I would gladly stay here again.

My husband and I had a great stay here. The stay was very friendly and accommodating. We wanted to change rooms because we didn't like the one we were given and it was changed with no hassle by the girl at the front desk. She referred us to eat at the Mexican restaurant next door and it was awesome! The beds were comfy and the room had decent A/C which was important being that it was 108 degrees at the time. The Wifi was great also!  It's about 5 mins away from downtown Bakersfield which was cool!

The only negative things were the parking lot was small and the vending machine ran out of water. Other than that it was a great place to stay for a short trip.

I have no idea why this place has 3 stars other then the owners paying people to give them a higher rating then they deserve. I travel all over and rely on yelp for food and stay.... This is a very bad hotel. First room I got smelt like a smoker just walked out of the room and there was still a large bag of trash in the room. 2nd room not much better, carpet is so dirty I won't take off my socks. The shower will not drain and the only way to flush the toilet was to take the back of the toilet off and pull up on the chain with your hand. Now if that is a 3 star hotel then I am losing all faith in Yelp...

The halls smell horrible like dirty lemon scented mop water.  Room is musty and out dated.  Found a wet spot in the middle of the bed which obviously someone peed the bed, and instead of cleaning the mattress they just threw a new sheet over the wet spot!  Grosssssss! I'd give it 0 stars for that mess.

We ended up staying a total of 4 nights. Overall, I'm very happy with this place. It's very clean, and great amenities. Only complaint is the loud AC, and charge for the crib. We chose not to use a crib. A huge plus and deciding factor was no pet fee. With that said, I highly recommend this place :)

Very accommodating staff, safe location, lots of stores and shopping close by. Manuel's is very convenient and has pretty darn good food at reasonable prices. I've stayed at this hotel several times in the past and wouldn't hesitate to stay again

The best quality about this hotel is the staff.  Naomi, the reservationist, concierge and floor sweeper, is the hardest working person I have ever seen!  The room was clean and nice.  It is conveniently located near a library and Amtrak.  I recommend this hotel.

A good budget hotel. The area is nice, not sure what other reviewers were referring to, it's in a neighborhood with apartments in the front of the hotel, and a local park/walking trail in the back. The path along Mill Creek was great for my dog, which is why we chose the hotel, they're dog friendly.
The room was clean, AC worked, and the bed was soft. Breakfast in the morning was good, and the whole experience was great for the price. The reason for four stars is because the water pressure in the shower was bad, and the water only got up to luke-warm, it never became hot.

Stayed here with my wife and 2 boys. Only 3 towels in the bathroom. 4 people, 3 towels?  My kids used 2 towels when they went swimming. Called the desk for more towels and was told I had to go get them myself.
When I peeled back the sheets I found Shit stains! It looked like somebody sat on the edge of the bed naked and scooted off!  There were other stains besides that the brown stains. If you need to stay in Bakersfield, don't stay at the Best Western!

EWWWW, there where hairs in my bed.

The room reeked of mold. The enamel was pealing off the tub. The calking on the garnet shower walls was all missing. I am sure they will be having a mold problem shortly if not already.  The shower mat on the tub was permeant placed down, and around the edges, there was black mold.

When we got there, the lady in the evening didn't even look happy to be at work, and it wasn't as if they were busy.

There free breakfast. Disgusting... Enough said there.

When we checked out we told them about the issues, and they wrote it down, but no accommodations of any sort. They asked why we didn't call for another room. I do not even think there would be another room worth looking at. It took me a long time to unload since I am handicap. Why would I want to move my luggage again.

    Do not stay here.

If I could give a negative rating, I would. Complete dump. I have stayed in many BW Plus ,  3 in the past week.
1st it is in the ghetto.  The delivery kid, told me it's hooker central.
Upon arrival,  the front desk woman, was rude and very unhelpful or accommodating.  We had a king business room booked.  We are in room #126 (outside of the secured building, right next to the pool, freeway noise, & the keyed entry door to the building and vending machines ).
Asked if any food establishments delivered,  she had no idea. Seemed in a bigger hurry to finish her chip bag. In the dump of a room, our fridge had a frozen over freezer section with the previous guests food in it. The carpet is so damn filthy, my white sock bottoms are now jet black.  I could go on, it is just gross. I have stayed at cleaner motels.
The fact that this is a "plus" location and appalling to the name Best Western.
The icing on the cake, was when the I tried to order deli off the TV channel guide menu, no one answered the #. Thankfully one food place was willing to deliver  (after looking online and calling 4 other places ) when I called the front desk, she said she didn't know if "best slice pizza" (the company on their hotel directory ) was in business still and I should look I'm the phone book.
Last night we stayed at a plus in northern California and it IS a plus. Avoid this place at all costs.

After many years staying at the BW - Buck Owens, they've dropped the BW affiliation so we opted to try Hill House. So very glad we did!

The front desk staff is very friendly, respectful and accommodating, knowing that we're BW members they treated us as if we were old friends. The room was furnished well, up to date decor and maintained well, Wi-Fi worked well in the room and surrounding grounds. I only wish I could have stolen the mattress, I usually wake with back pain but this time was pain free!!! I couldn't find a complaint if I tried. We didn't take part in the free breakfast but did see that there were many items to choose from, maybe next time if we don't have to leave so early.

To the whole staff, thanks for a wonderful stay!!!
