My daughter and I stayed here because we were going to Kernville the next day to go whitewater river rafting the next day and didn't want to drive a long way the same day.  I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone...  It took about 20 minutes for the water to get hot in the bathroom to shower--my daughter had already given up! When we tried to call the office to see if we could find out what was wrong we found out the phone didn't work.  The so called continental breakfast consisted of cheap (still) frozen white bread, margarine, squezable jelly, two cheap generic cereals, Sunny D, and watery milk.  The worst continental breakfast that I've ever had was donuts--and that was a better than this!  It looked like the maid NEVER looked behind the bathroom door let alone cleaned back there!  We could've stayed at the Garden Hilton or whatever it's called for a couple of dollars more--but chose this place because it included a "continental breakfast."   We were sorry.  And don't forget the crackheads and other unsavory looking people....

My sisters and I stayed in rooms 125 and 126- both rooms with two beds each- on 10/27/11 & 10/28/11. While my sisters were okay, I woke up with bites all over my body after the second night. After further inspecting the beds I saw blood splatters all over the sheets and live bugs crawling on the bed. Immediately my sister went up to the front desk to let the manager know. He completely denied any responsibility whatsoever and told her that we must have brought the bugs with us since he'd just had the place inspected by the health department. She tried telling him that the only other place we'd been was at the hospital because we are all in from out of town to see our mother in the hospital, but he would not listen. So, she grabbed our other sister who went up to talk to him. Our other sister tried to tell him what he could do for us- give us a refund, offer an apology, give us money to wash our clothes. He said that we could wash our clothes at the hotel and he said "I'm not giving you a dime." Our sister then called her friend, a woman, who also works in the hotel business to see what she could do and when she was on the line with her friend, the clerk said "Say hello to Mr. _____" in a really sexist demeaning manner. He then asked to come look at the room and when he came back there he started yelling at my sister! Our other sister asked him to call the public health department and he literally said "that's not my problem." At that point we told him to leave and we decided to deal with it on our own.
Never go to this hotel. The manager will only deny responsibility. He will effectively call you dirty and blame any issues you have on you. He should not be in business any longer.

We decided to be better safe than sorry and get a room to stay the night in case I had to play on Sunday.  So we were granted a 1 hour pass to leave the tournament to do so.  Right down the street the first place we saw the California Best Inn.

It was completely clean, the receptionist was really nice and friendly, we had an all around good feeling about the place, and for checking in on a Saturday with no reservations, it welcomed us with open arms.  ($60 a night!)

When we got up to our non-smoking room on the second floor, we were pretty impressed by what we got for that low of a rate.  Everything functioned, everything was clean, and we even got wireless to be able to look up directions for places we wanted to go and check out.

On Sunday, we were a bit late on the check out, but they didn't hassle us at all!  And their black out drapes...worked like a charm!  4 thumbs up!!  (I'm putting Kieran's thumbs up for him)  :)  If you ever take an impromptu trip up to Bakersfield, definitely consider California Best Inn for shelter.

I've experienced worse, but I've also experienced wayyy better. Glad I only paid $40 for my room. This was listed on Hotwire as a 2 star, not sure how it got that rating. When we pulled in the night clerk arrived at the window bleary eyed and in pajamas. Hmmm. Our room was okayish. If I was back in the area I wouldn't stay here again.

Stay away, stay away. We chose this location from decent TripAdvisor reviews but some of those folks must have been plants. We were traveling with a dog so our choices were limited.

    In a nutshell:
-they incorrectly charged my credit card and needed 3 transactions to make it right
-we found a roach in the room
-they typically do not give refunds for any reason, even bugs (!)
-we had to make a big scene before the manager arrived: he was the only one that could process credit card refunds
-when he did arrive he didn't believe us until he saw the bug himself, then tried to play it off as some kind of 'different' roach. Ew. Ew. Ew.
-Manager became extremely rude when my husband requested a copy of the refund receipt. When my husband threatened to call the cops the manager got angry and claimed that he wouldn't refund us after all.

We had to call the cops on the management. That should say it all right there. Thankfully he caved before they had to roll an officer out.

Bottom line: dirty rooms, rude management, and they are clearly accustomed to people paying cash for their rooms. Sketchy.

This is definitely your truck stop overnight sleeper. My boyfriend and I were driving down from the Bay Area to LA and decided to stay overnight here. I wasn't too sure about the hotel, but it was actually very nice. We had a very late check in (about 1am to 2am) and the front door was locked. The night person took a while to get out to us, but we were checked in in less than 2 minutes. We had a room on the top floor and were told the parking was first come first serve. We were able to park easily and pulled our stuff up to the room. They do skimp on a lot of the stuff inside the room. Two towels only for showering, shampoo in a small pouch and sheets and blankets that you can do without. Good thing I bought my own blanket. The bed was hard as a rock, and the pillows too, which I didn't like. BUT, the best thing about the hotel is how quiet the place is. Not a single sound. There was a fridge and microwave, which were great. Some other basics were missing (hair dryer and iron), but we only stayed one night, so that wasn't a problem. When we got up in the morning, basically every other car was gone! Lol

Next time we drive all night to LA or San Diego, I will definitely stay here again. It's not off the I5, but it is off the 99 I believe, so it's easy to get back on I5 in the morning.
