Courtyard properties are starting to look very nice, and the one in Bakersfield is in that same class. The check in process was smooth and effortless. The rooms are spacious even with the two double beds in the room. Fortunately, we had a view of the pool area. It was well constructed with a gazebo and a nice trail that led to the pool. My only disappointment with this property is the beds. They were hard and stiff and my back didn't enjoy it. It wasn't the typical "Marriott" bed that I'm so accustomed to. If you want breakfast, there's an all you can eat area in the lobby for about $10. Not a bad deal, but we decided to pass. Overall, this was a pleasant experience.

We checked in for just one night, on our way from SF to Riverside. The hotel was clean and comfortable, with a reasonable price for a Marriott. Check in was quick and pleasant, the room was good, the exercise area small but functional (and uncrowded in the evening). The bed was comfortable, and nothing woke me during the night. Bakersfield may not be the most happening place in California, but if you do spend the night, this is a good choice.

Let's start out with 5 stars, and see where we finish.

Excellent central location. Easy to find. Courteous staff. Clean as an OCD patients apartment. Nice!

But... I booked my room from Priceline (always do. You can save some SERIOUS money). I think that's why I got stuck with room 101 (I know, I should have known!). Right by the f*%#ing entrance/exit! They weren't even at 1/4 capacity, and they told me that this was the only first floor room available. -1 star

I took another star off just because. Because I don't like MOFOs "pissing down my back and telling me it's raining". Just because I'm not some old fart with a business expense account, who pays full price for a room, why should I get shafted? -1 star.

Will I stay there again? Nope. There are equivalent hotels on the same block, and I will really be on the look-out for bullsh*t moves in Bakersfield, CA. Or as I like to call it: Oklahoma with palm trees.

We were on a road trip from the bay area to Vegas and one the map Bakersfield seem to be a half way point, we booked this through hotwire and got it for a rate of $50.00, when we got there we were super surprised, the room was so warm and cozy with big beds and pillows, had a fabuluos bathroom and the staff was very nice! Would we return, of course, however I doubt we will be back in bakersfield anytime soon!

I chose this hotel for me and my colleagues because my supervisor remembered having a good experience here the last time they were in town. I wonder if she remembered wrong... I'm fairly new to business travels, but I know what I like and don't like, what I want and don't want when I stay at temporary rooming that people call "hotels."

The front desk staff were nice. That's always nice when you've had a LONG day of meetings and check in around 9:45 p.m.  Upon entering my room, I was like "heeeey, pretty nice setup here."  I didn't expect the room to look as pleasant as it did. After experiencing my positive first impression, it was countered with a discovery of disgust. I was on the phone and decided to look up while pacing around the room. I saw this big, darkish oval object on the ceiling. I almost panicked because I thought it was a cockroach.  Luckily, it wasn't -- however, it WAS a big ol' moth. In fact, my room had THREE chillin' in different areas of the ceiling. GROSS! I tried to swat 'em with a towel from the bathroom.  They eventually disappeared (don't know where but didn't care) but it was still very unpleasant and I think I didn't fall asleep till an hour after my discovery.  My only other con is that I think the bathroom towels were a tad on the cheap side; they did not feel comfy at all -- drying myself after my shower wasn't a pleasant experience.

We each had a California King single bed room. Damage? $129 each (plus tax and fees) for the night.  I'm assuming it's because we booked it less than 1 week before the day we needed the room.  Not sure if the room was worth the price but I suppose it makes sense for booking "so late."  I know the next time we have a meeting in town, we most likely won't be returning to this Courtyard due to price and the experience my coworkers had (e.g., my boss' room was near the train tracks and another colleague's A/C unit was extremely loud all night).

Quick check in, super clean rooms, nice accommodations (pool, fitness center, booze and snacks in lobby), very comfortable memory foam bed, patio door/access...and a downright steal on priceline...close proximity to the booming excitement of downtown bako.

if i had to go back to bakersfield, i'd definitely stay here again...

Very clean, reasonably priced and the fire place in the lobby was the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee.

Breakfast was pricey for low quality food that is complimentary at most places of it's kind. Overall a nice place.

This place was not like other Marriott I have visited. The room I had was 337and it had a door joining the other room. I could literally hear everything the person next to me was doing. I could hear his tv, his phone conversation, and him waking up I. The morning with a really loud sigh. Granted he was a loud neighborhood but the noise dampening was really bad between room. I could hear people talking outside my room in the afternoon really well. In fact the maids were chatting right outside my room for about an hour and a half! At around 3 to 4:30. It was annoying only because it was so long. The good parts about the place are it was nice, clean, the manager is super enthusiastic about everything And has good energy and the food at the bistro is good.  I won't stay here again though

Stayed here this past weekend for the AYSO Section Playoffs.  The public areas and lobby were very nice, the rooms were ok, nothing great. The service is what sets this Courtyard apart from any other hotel of this class that I have stayed at.  The staff was incredibly accommodating especially given the chaos and rowdiness of the soccer teams that were there.  The front office staff was always smiling and more than willing to help us find anything we needed in town or on property.  The Bistro was, as expected, a bit pricey, but the food was pretty good.  The Bistro staff went way above and beyond.  On our last night there, we bought In N Out and also brought in our own alcohol.  Being that I work in hotels and have a bachelor's in hotel management, I know that most hotels will tell you to leave the lobby if you want to do that and go back to your room.  The staff here embraced our byob and food decision.  We did not ask, but they brought us ice buckets for our beers and made sure we were taken care of.  They even had one member of the staff going around to our tables and such making sure our bottles were open and were clearing our "dishes" without us saying anything.  For this class of hotel, this is unheard of!! We were all incredibly impressed!! The next morning one of the people we were traveling with woke up at 430am with a migraine and asked the front office for Excedrin.  They did not have any, but that did not stop the front desk agent.  She offered to go to a local store and purchase some right away! That offer was declined and the front desk agent then offered to check her purse to see if she had any.  She found some and without any hesitation gave some to the person with the migraine.

Mr. Marriott should be very proud of the staff at this property.  They truly embody the meaning of hospitality and made our stay in Bakersfield a very memorable one.

The only reason I am not giving this property 5 stars is because of the rooms being rather "cheesy" and the pillows being flat. Other than that, this is an excellent property and if you are in Bakersfield, you should definitely stay here.

I recently stayed here for a wedding we were attending in the near vacinity. The rooms were clean and the bathroom was a decent size. The pillows could be improved and so could the noise level.  We could hear entire conversations that were going outside in the hallway.
The scrambled eggs at breakfast need some drastic improvement. Who screws up scrambled eggs? On the plus side, the breakfast area does have a make your own waffle station. All in all, Ok stay.

Not too shabby for 60 bucks on priceline!! Stayed out here the night before driving really really fast on the track in Buttonwillow.... The hotel was clean and the bed was comfy... can't really complain too much there!

Bathrooms were nice and seemed newly renovated; highly doubt I'll ever need to spend the night in Bakersfield but if need be.... I wouldn't mind staying here again! Only downside was that the soundproofing needed some improvement.

Good bed, refrigerator, microwave.  Bathroom is clean as well.

What really irked me about the place was the internet.  It was called "stayonline", but the damn thing kept cutting in and out, and felt like it was barely faster than dialup.

Don't name your connection "stayonline" if it does not.

I forgot my iPod connector as well.  A courtesy call would have been nice telling me I had forgot it there.

I've stayed at this Courtyard twice now.  Once back in September 2008, and on Friday, May 22nd, 2009.

Was a late arrival as I had a 4-5 hr drive to get to the hotel.  No issues, check-in was lightspeed and I was sleeping within 15 min of getting to the room.

The bed was great, usually the case with any Marriott property lately.  I like a firm mattress and this was almost as firm as my bed at home.

Only stayed until 7-8 am as I had some more driving to do.

    Didn't try the breakfast cafe.

Underwhelmed by the front desk staff who were rude and not willing to listen. I booked a family room for 5 via the Marriott app and the manager said it was my fault they didn't have a family room available...Outrageous. Her solution....Check us out of the hotel! Unbelievable and so out of step with my previous Marriott experiences. Would never book this hotel again.

This is an old style Courtyard without the Bistro and some of the fancier features in new Courtyards.

The service is excellent and there's a really nice outdoor pool in the middle. Great for those 100+ degree Bakersfield days! WiFi (iBahn) and parking are free, and unlike the newer, sleaker Courtyard's 24 hour coffee is also free!

Breakfast was good, not great....so, the Bistro upgrade will help. The service in the restaurant was excellent!

Last, the rate was very reasonable on Marriott.com .

Convenient location. Recent redecoration to the new lobby styling. Bistro just right for quick meals/snacks. Towels are thin. Toiletries only soap/shampoo/conditioner, no lotion or mouthwash. Freeway noise in rooms on the eastern side of the complex but AC fan provides adequate "white noise" However, air conditioning thermostat wouldn't hold my desired temperature throughout the night, bumping the temp up about 4 am every night without fail. When the temp goes up, the fan begins to cycle off so the freeway noise woke me up early every morning. :-(

The hotel is nice and modern. I had read it was renovated recently. However, service in the hotel's Bistro is terrible. My family and I waited over an hour for food I could find at a gas station store. The photos of delicious looking food and the menu descriptions are deceiving. My recommendation - stay far away from the Bistro and get take-out.

My wife, and I stayed here with our 5-year-old daughter on the way back to the Bay Area from San Diego. The best part about the stop was the room(s). We booked a suite, and unlike a lot of hotels, this was a true suite with two separate rooms and an actual door! Our daughter was about to go to bed on time, and my wife and I were able to stay up watching TV and talking until we fell asleep. For any couples with children, this is far preferable to sharing a room with two queen beds or a "suite" with a dividing wall or no separation at all. For this reason alone, we will book here anytime we make the trip as our halfway stop.

The room had a balcony overlooking the courtyard and pool. There was a HDTV in each room of our suite and lots of room overall. If we had been staying here even a few hours longer, I'm sure we would have enjoyed the amenities even more.

    However, there are some drawbacks.

The hotel does not provide breakfast of any kind. You order it at "The Bistro" and charge it to your room or whatever. The french toast was fantastic, but the eggs were below average.

I was also disappointed to find only one serving of coffee provided in the room; I had to ask the front desk for more so my wife and I could both enjoy a cup. Similarly, for some reason, the staff only stocked the shower with conditioner. Not a big deal.

Over all, I am a fan of this hotel. If you don't feel the need to have a true "suite" the Spring Hill Suites next door to the Courtyard offers a smaller room, but a complimentary breakfast. I'd go there if I didn't have to worry about sharing a room with kids. But if you are traveling with children, book at the Courtyard and enjoy some well-deserved rest.

    Easy to find.
Clean rooms.  Comfy bed.  Efficient service.
What you expect from a courtyard Marriott.

Came out for a soccer tournament.
25 boys and their families... Apologies for our rowdiness :-)
Even I couldn't take an afternoon nap when ALL the boys were at the pool, hollering up a storm.  Boys will be boys.

Didn't use their $10 breakfast buffet.  Actually probably more convenient than going to the nearby Denny's or IHOP.   We brought in our own pastries and kept them in our room mini fridge, saved us time & money and my family aren't big breakfast eaters anyway.  There is free coffee at the lobby to fill up my travel mug on the way out.  Always a plus :-)

Convenient location.  Across the street from CostCo to fuel up.
Quick walk to Johns incredible pizza(kids fun zone place).  different review.

All in all.... Would I go back to this Marriott Courtyard?  Yes, if I had to go to another soccer tournament in Bakersfield.  Not sure why else I'd ever go to Bakersfield.

I booked a room online several months in advance, in order to attend an annual HS wrestling event in March.  Checked in about 6 pm and was told all they have left are two handicapped rooms.  They give out rooms based on when you arrive, not when you book.  Even worse, housekeeping starts tapping on doors at 8am waking up the entire floor so they can turn over rooms quickly.  Speaking very loudly, clanking glasses and showing no consideration for sleeping guests. Called front desk to complain, explained the situation and response was: "how can I help you?".

I'm gonna bounce them up to four stars.   the rooms are really nice.   This time my room faced the courtyard.  Courtyard!  Marriott Courtyard!  I get it, now.   Anyway, there was a balcony, it was nice.  It overlooked the pool.  Waterview!  bling!

Great pillows.  Strong water pressure.  Only complaint - the HD TV channels come in spotty, always cutting out and such.  Ugh.   I only care because hotels are the only place I get to watch cable, or live non-internet streaming tv for that matter, so It'd be nice to watch sportcenter in clean, uninterputed HD.

Real nice service, good parking, good light fixtures, quiet, decent workout equipment.   fridge good.  A/C works well, but is loud.

This hotel had all the essentials. It was clean, which is the most important item for me.  The king size bed was very comfortable, the tv was a large flat screen, and it has a nice size pool and spa in the courtyard. It offers a barbecue grill if you want to grill your own food in the courtyard. The cafe in the lobby is reasonably priced and has nice a breakfast menu.  To top it off, the staff are pleasant, and accommodating, with a good sense of humor.

    Don't overlook this hotel.

I know  a lot of people see a Courtyard and they think to move on, but this is really nice.

My husband works for a Marriott and we didn't even have a reservation, we walked in late at night and checked availability and we were able to get a room with the friends and family rate, not the employee rate. I think if we booked ahead he obviously could have gotten the employee rate but we were happy with the discount that we got.

The lobby is contemporary and they have items that you can buy like candy, drinks, even alcohol.

There is a snack bar area that is also a bar. You can eat there or take your food to go. When we ate breakfast we were able to get a large booth and it has its own personal TV so my kids were able to watch Disney while we had breakfast.

The room was really nice and having our 2 small kids there was stressful at first but this hotel was so accommodating that I didn't need to worry anymore.

There is a huge LG flat screen in the room and Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom.

We were able to order food and bring it to our room and that was really nice since we were exhausted after driving all day. We ordered a cheese pizza for the kids and it was a good size, I was surprised! They also made a tuna sandwich and a chef salad too. I think that all of the food came to $32.00. Pretty pricey for the food itself but not bad at all for buying it in a hotel and the food was good too.

I like this place for what it is, a convenient hotel for the business traveler staying a night or two.  They do a good job here:

The rooms seem like they've been updated/upgraded recently.  The bed in my room was great with nice linens.

The on-site cafe and bar is open late, and the food is pretty decent.  I got a quesadilla as a late night snack and a breakfast sandwich in the morning, and they were both pretty good.

The service is good, too.  Everyone I encountered was welcoming and genuinely helpful.

Decided to give this location a shot. It's off the main road in a hotel cluster. The description on the Marriott website is accurate for the location. It has a nice updated lobby but after heading for your room you will run into the mood killers.
The staff needs to focus on cleaning the hallways and elevators. Carpet was dirty and walls had grime on them. The room was updated but was oddly set-up. Had a King bed and hide a way sofa. The bed was situated sideways with the couch at the foot of the bed. It was pretty comfy on the softer side. My 10 year old daughter slept in the hide a way. The bed wasn't made but the bedding was in the room. The TV was bolted to the dresser so it made it difficult to watch while laying in bed. The 42"TV is on the right side so it's directly in your face. The person on the left has to sit-up to see around the other person in bed. It would make more sense to move it to the middle or end of the dresser. The A/C seemed to come on and off often. To make the room comfortable I turned it down to 60 but seemed like the real temp was in the 70's. The bathroom was roomy but had a hole in the door and the tile looked repaired in many places. I was surprised to see a non efficient toilet in the bathroom with the conservation push going on. This place seems like they are trying to keep it up to date but the rooms still show its 25 year age.

This hotel is alright...  cute lobby, renovated or newer but in a sketchy looking industrial area. It does have other similar hotels nearby and caters to business people. (oil and gas, agriculture)
    3 floors.
The staff are decent, the night shift staff. The rooms are very small. Beds OK. Not a lot of storage.
Fridge, yes. Microwave can be brought into your room upon request.
Inexpensive (the prices actually go down for rooms on the weekend due to whom it caters to generally).
Quiet. We had a balcony which was great for fresh air complete with screen. I have not had a hotel room with a balcony that I can remember let alone even a window that has ever opened.
The hotel boasted free internet that had excellent connection (I do not feel in this day and age, there should ever be a fee for wifi at a hotel).
    Free parking.
The pool is small but clean. It is outdoor and the whirlpool is indoor. Both close down at 11pm. The 'gym' is tiny and I would not waste my time in there.
The food area down in the lobby - I never saw it open.
The worst thing about this hotel, at least in our room way down the hall at the end was the shower situation. No hot water, just lukewarm and that was after a wasteful 20 minutes of running the water as per the front desk advice. The first thing I thought of this AM while TRYING to have a shower is how much I missed the Westin for their 'heavenly showers'.
I liked the newness quality and the cleanliness of the space but would explore other options if staying in town again.
ALSO as an update - your day time staff around check out time need lessons in customers service - you know, maybe asking how the stay was, thanking us for our business for 3 nights. Get those scowls off and let the smiles prevail! You left a bad taste in our mouths upon leaving!

I travel to Bakersfield a lot for work so I have had the opportunity to stay at more than my fair share of places in town. The Courtyard Marriot is  nothing to write home about, but it's still a good hotel if you're in town on business. The staff is friendly, the rooms clean and the location is good (close to restaurants, stores, etc.).  This place has become my go to for when I come to town. Thank you for providing a good establishment.

Beautiful hotel. The room was spacious and beds were very comfortable. There was an outdoor pool and a gym, but we didn't use either. Staff are friendly and helpful. The wifi worked perfectly. Loved the breakfast - we didn't mind paying for them: three pretty healthy breakfast with orange juice and tea were about $25 bucks, which definitely beat the lousy tasteless free breakfasts at certain other hotels we've stayed. This also was the one of the best hotel we've stayed so far during our long road trip (we've stayed at numerous holiday inn express and comfort suites). The only little complain I would have is the mini fridge did not have the freezer section, but to the most part, no complains. Would definitely stay here again.

First time staying here and not again.  First, little to none in customer service.  All staff seemed bored and not interested in their jobs.  Hotel is clean but needs to be updated.  There is also a security issue here as they say the area is safe but there are crime alert notices everywhere!   Even on your check in material.  First thing they can do is add lighting to the parking lot as it is very dark.
This Courtyard needs to send their staff to customer service training.  Next business trip to Bakersfield, I will avoid this place!
