First room was upgraded but had an electrical problem rendering none of the lamps or tv not working. They had an engineer meet me in a similar room, but before I even put my bags down, I saw a cockroach on the table. Gross! I left the hotel immediately. All this happened at 1am. I was too tired to deal with them anymore, and went down the street to the Courtyard, which was very pleasant.

Ask for a room overlooking the pool or on the west side of the building. East side faces the freeway. It's an older hotel but still decent. The neighborhood that it's in doesn't seem to the be the greatest but that seems to everywhere in Bakersfield.

I have stayed there for business at least once a year because of a corporate account. This last stay was just plain bad.

I like my hotel room to be clean. Maybe I'm asking to much, but random pubic hairs around the bathroom floor makes me question what else around the room housekeeping thought weren't important to clean. Being dead tired, I didn't want to call and wait for housekeeping to come around and do what they should have the first time. The bed looked clean enough so I went to sleep. I figured that I would have to wash all of my stuff when I got home anyhow.

The HVAC system had serious issues, but the front desk disagreed. They had heating piped to the room which you could not turn off. The only way to cool down the room was to have the A/C unit compete against the heating. The problem with this is that it dries out the air so much that I woke up running to get some water to drink. To solve it, I opened up the patio door to let cold air in. The sound of passing train horns and the freeway was easier to deal with than to wake up and drink water every half hour. I guess I was far from the smartest guy at the hotel because when I looked outside, I noticed that everyone else had already done the same.

When I woke up to take a shower in the morning I noticed some hair by the drain so I cleaned it with some toiled paper, I grabbed one of their towels and an area of it was discolored, rough and flaked when I handled the towel. WTF? I decided to forgo the shower, dressed, checked out and took my shower when I got home instead.

Warm chocolate chip and walnut cookies for the whole gang upon check-in.  What's not to love?  It's a bit expensive, but we wanted a family suite with two rooms in a 'nicer' hotel, and that's what we got.  Friendly staff and free wifi if you're a Hilton Honors member.  Close to Camelot, for all you go-cart racers, mini-golfers, and video game enthusiasts.

Stayed here for an overnight business trip. The Hotel was ok, the Front Desk staff was very nice & helpful, and the rooms were kind of old looking. The bed was comfortable, maybe because it was a King sized bed with 6 pillows and a warm comforter all to myself. It was pretty quiet, but it was a Monday night. They had a nice huge bar there which was showing the MNF game, thumbs up on that. I didn't order anything to eat here but there is variety of restaurants around the area to eat at. If you're a 24hour gym member, it's located across the street, very convenient. Overall, I would stay here for an overnight business trip.

Book my room this past Saturday for March Meet. I prepaid for $83 plus tax  a night for two nights. They didn't send me a confirmation number,  the idiot didn't take down the right email. I called today to double check after my friend said she got her confirmation in minutes. The idiot booked me for February. I told them that the idiot made a mistake. Now paying $104 plus tax a night. No I didn't refer to the guy as a idiot..lol But they are charging me more, even after they still had a side note of me requesting to be on the same floor as my friend, who is booked on the correct date. I feel that the hotels up there have realized the March Meet is early this year, and are intentionally doing what they can to screw people out of more money. Three years ago I booked at the Ramada. Showed up with a confirmation, and I ended up having to pay twice as much! Beware, they state they have the right to mark up prices. Next year its a RV!! Both deserve no business.. Screw you Double Tree!! Can't wait to actually stay their, and take the survey after..

This is arguably the nicest hotel in Bakersfield in terms of atmosphere, quality and customer service.  I regularly recommend the Doubletree to others when asked about a hotel to stay at in the area.  They have large meeting space for seminars and banquet dinners.  And the dinners here are pretty decent - have done several rubber chicken banquets here.  

The hotel itself is really spread out and centrally-located.  The rooms are above average and they offer a top-notch Sunday champagne brunch and a nightclub.  Shoot they even toss in yummy chocolate chip cookie as well.

I stayed here on 04/18/11 and did not see any of the things people noted in their negative reviews.  
When I checked in (without a reservation, at 11:00 am) I got a very reasonable rate, an upgrade, free internet, two bottles of water, a voucher for breakfast, and a cookie.  I recommend signing up for hhonors.
There is an abundance of free parking.
The hotel is very nice with a resort-style atmosphere.
The pool is huge, clean, appointed with a substantial number of chairs and tables, and surrounded by a beautiful courtyard.
The halls are tastefully decorated, including the carpet.
My room was exceptional:  nice bedding and towels, contemporary furnishings, odor free shower curtain.
This is arguably the finest hotel in Bakersfield.  
The Padre is your other choice (if you are a poseur or hipster.)

I've been to nice Doubletree's.  I was in town for work and this is where we had to stay.  Room was very large.  Carpet was old.  I had a courtyard facing room so I didn't hear anything.

One section of the top floor was sectioned off.  It looked like they were having plumbing issues.  

Staff was nice.  Hotel needs some re-freshening.  Glad work was paying for it.

Surrounding area was questionable.

Nope. I didn't like this place at all. I will tell you that after my stay Doubletree sent me an automated survey and I completed it and they were SUPER apologetic and sent me a coupon for a free night's stay at any Doubletree. So that helped. But basically I had to stay here for business, and I did not like it. The end.

For a hilton person this is as good as it gets for bakersfield.  Breakfast is decent.  Seems to take forever to get I my room regardless of where I park.  Old feeling.  Noisy air system.

This is the first hotel I stayed at on my cross-country road trip from Monterey, CA to Colorado Springs, CO.
The hotel looked fine...it is just a Doubletree. However, the guy at the front desk seemed aloof and didn't really know what was going on. I asked him if he was new, and he said no. I wish he'd said yes!

Anyway, my main reason for rating this hotel so high are two things (the most important one being the latter).
1. It was New Years Eve and the room was SILENT. I heard nothing. Incredible!
2. The guest services guy, Andres, is basically an angel on earth. I had forgotten my cell phone charger in Monterey and absolutely had to get one that night. New Years day was the next day, and everything would be CLOSED. My GPS decided to stop working and I had no idea where to go. Andres offered to drive me around! FOR FREE! I was crying because I was stressed out and he hugged me telling me it would be ok, we would find the charger. We found one at Target. If it weren't for his warmth and compassion that night, I would have had a major panic attack.

Old and tired looking, in dire need of renovation, but you can see this place was something nice once. That wouldn't be enough for a 1-star review though, so here we go: We arrive and get no acknowledgment as Diamond members from the check-in staff (though, to be fair, that is rare at any Hilton property). I see the woman checking us in is not the happiest sort, and have a sinking feeling coming up. I ask about a diamond upgrade (which should be done automatically) and am told we have been upgraded to a "deluxe" room overlooking the pool...well, that is what I had a guaranteed reservation for anyway. I ask if any suites are available (as they're supposed to give to diamonds) and am told no. Being suspicious, I later that evening check their website for suites and lo and behold, many suites available! So I was blatantly lied to by that nice clerk. She also caused trouble with our breakfast coupons, refusing a third one though we had reserved the room for three and the room rate came with breakfast included, not even mentioning as a diamond I get 2 free breakfasts anyway. Luckily the nice waiter at breakfast ignored the evil witch's plan and let us slide on the third coupon, which got him a better tip. Then there are other complaints such as in-room wifi kept shutting off repeatedly (especially irritating when you're in the middle of writing an email), and the pc in the biznez center kept having connectivity problems too. There are other choices in Bakersfield, and so, to quoth the Raven: No More.

So I would like to start this review by saying that I went on priceline and got this room for $45, $58 total with tax. So please keep this in mind. I believe the regular price per a room is$109 and up.

Pros: GREAT GREAT shower. Best shower I have ever taken in ANY hotel. My kids agree.
         Beds are very comphy and plenty of pillows.
         Got a 2 Queen room and it was so roomy and big.
         Refrigerater was very nice and not chinchy. it actually freezes.
         New contertops in bathroom and new linings and furnishings.

Cons: Bathroom shower curtain had a funky smell.
          Pool was like an apartment complex pool...and not the nice kind. it was so dirty! Me and my daughter had HAIR stuck to us.... and not just a strand but a clump. grossed us out and we left in a hurry.
          Hotel is old and carpets are dingy.

So in the end this was a great deal for me and my family we got a value priced hotel had a great nights sleep with little things wrong. Now would I in any way pay $100 to stay here... Heck NO. but i would priceline it again!!! Hope this helps.

Ummmm.....ummmmmm......ummmmm.... ahhhh.... well.... in a nut shell, this place sucks.  I mean in every, single, possible way it just REEKS of failure ( oh and it's stinky too!)  I mean, just WOW!  The way we were treated by the housekeeping and staff, well let's just say, they treated me like I killed their mother. NO JOKE!  RUDE! AND THEY HAVE NO TOWELS!  Yep, that's right ZERO towels. NADA, zilch.  Apparently, if the pool is open, the rooms have no towels.  I sh*t you not.  The decor is somewhat thrift shop fab, with a musty smell.  The doors don't even hit the carpet.  There is a good 2 1/2 in gap between the floor and bottom of the door.  Great for peepers!  YAY! I mean I could keep going, but I think you get the picture.  This place is as quality as a used band aid that you found on a public bathroom sink.  GROSS! OH and the "secured" entry, not so secure.  NONE of the keys are needed to get into the building.  THEY OPEN THEMSELVES! YIKES!

Stayed one night in this hotel! My mom use to work here and i use to love it, but they probably haven't changed the rugs in that place in over 20 years. those carpets are dirty. The rate wasn't bad, but I've stayed at allot better places for cheaper.

Having spent the combined timeframe of about five weeks at this place over the past year, I feel the inherent, unexplainable need to stick up for it.

The Bakersfield Doubletree is a mixed bag of emotions for me.

First and foremost, this *is* an old property...and the oldness is apparent in a variety of ways, such as the architecture, the bathroom fixtures, and especially the anywhere-from-thirty-to-forty year old carpets in the rooms.

However, the location is fantastic. It's centrally located in Bakersfield, off the 99 with easy access to get back on in either direction. Good food options surrounding the place. The hotel restaurant is above average, I've ordered room service here a number of times and always been really pleased.

I'm a Hilton Diamond member, and without getting into numbers, I stay in their properties...a lot. When I first started staying at this one, my requests were consistently honored and I was even given the same awesome room (401) multiple times in a row.

Then, all of a sudden, it seemed as though the magic wore off a bit with them for having me as a regular. King bed's weren't available...fourth floor rooms weren't available...the same front desk clerk being on shift every single time I go to check in, who doesn't quite understand the concept of a personality, fluent english or hilton's ultimate goal of industry-standard service.

So, that part has really been getting disappointing lately. But here's some reasons why I won't consider staying anywhere else out here and still feel it's well deserving of the four stars:

-The hotel layout is actually very nice. The buildings pretty much form a square around the central courtyard.The pool-view rooms all face the courtyard, have balconies or patios and sliding glass doors. During the summer, it's awesome to be able to leave the door open and let fresh air in. It's a very welcome change of pace from a normally-stuffy hampton or hilton room.

-Flat screen TV's in every room with good channel selection and picture quality

-Abundant, free parking all around the property with several different points of entrance.

-Very unique "Jet" fixture built into the showers in each room...never seen this before in a hilton hotel, period. Pretty cool.

-Decent housekeeping, clean rooms, maintenance issues are addressed promptly and efficiently.

-Lamps on either side of their king bed rooms with built-in power outlets: should absolutely be the standard in every hotel out there.

-Above all else...Incredibly, ridiculously comfortable doubletree mattress and pillows.

Give it a shot...this is absolutely going to be your best-bet in Bakersfield. Trust me, I've tried a lot of other options out here.

Maybe one of the worst deals in hotelling. I should have looked more closely at the location, being next to hwy 99. But Doubletree's are generally nice hotels, so we gave it a try. The room was $107 dollars, a little high I thought for Bakersfield, but ok. The room they gave us was prob 50' off hwy 99. It sounded like we were sleeping on the side of a busy highway, which essentially, we were. The room itself was dull, no effort to decorate, the carpet so stained I would not walk barefoot on it. I called down to see if they had a better room. "Oh, that would be a deluxe room then, $20 more". I asked what was deluxe about it. "Same room, does not face the freeway". We took it. Def quieter, a little cleaner. Had a nice terrace over looking the Courtyard. Evidently, asking too much to actually have a few chairs on it. This place is a rip.

This hotel is awful!!!  Looks like they are beginning to do some renovations! I would stay away until they are completed! Everything had a layer of film on them. Even when moved to the high end suite, things were dirty, things missing, etc. staff was nice but not enough to compensate for the yuck.

We've stayed at the Doubletree a few times during our pit stops to Vegas and even attended our cousin's wedding here back in January '10 so, you can say we've really experienced this hotel.

The rooms are completely spread out and surround the pool.  As parking is quite abundant, you'll be able to easily find parking near the building your room is in.  The numbering system is wierd, i.e. 1st floor rooms are 200, 2nd floor rooms 300, etc.  However, be forewarned that it might be a little of a trek to find the closest elevator, but the stairs are easy to find.

The rooms are quite spacious, typical of most Doubletree Hotels.  The furnishings have been updated here and there but they still have tube TVs.  The bed is super comfortable, love their Sweet Dreams signature beds!!  The bathroom is also pretty big and feature a long counter for all your toiletries.  The shower is pretty cool as it has a couple front facing shower heads in addition to the main shower head.

As far as events, when we attended the wedding last year, I thought it went by quite seamless.  The food was great and so was the service.  We didn't utilize the restaurant but I did visit their coffee kiosk which got a lot of traffic but at least they brew Starbucks coffee.

The Front Desk agents have always been friendly and truly, how can you even attempt to be upset after they push those warm, delicious Doubletree Cookies at you?  PS - You can ask for them anytime you want, as many times you want, I heard it's one of the Doubletree rules.

Overall, the Doubletree may not be the newest or the shiniest hotel but, we've stayed at other Bakersfield hotels and I'll say it's the best full-service hotel out there!

Booked and requested two rooms together and was please that my request was taken care without having to remind them.  The beds were very comfortable and we had a beautiful pool/garden view.  Location was perfect for us as our primary purpose was to go to a show at the Crystal Palace.  The hotel also has a wonderful Champagne Sunday Brunch which I highly recommend!

I stayed at this hotel this week as we were returning from our trip to the Grand Canyon. I also happened to have been suffering from a gastrointestinal virus, something that is rare for me.

We selected this hotel because it was one of the lowest priced full service hotels, and because my other half is a Hilton Honors Diamond Level member. I was a little reluctant to stay here because when we arrived, he looked around and told me that it was an older property. Doubletrees are less consistent in their quality than other Hilton properties are, and I had stayed at a bad Doubletree less than a month earlier. We came to the room, and it seemed just fine, a pretty standard 3-star hotel room.

I went straight to bed, and didn't wake up, even to go to the bathroom, for another 10 hours. The bed was comfortable, and the room was quiet, even though a bluegrass festival was taking place in the hotel.

Then, I took my shower, which was fantastic! There was not only sufficient pressure from the head, but there were jets about chest high, which made it one of the most refreshing showers I have ever had.

Finally, the hotel staff was extremely accommodating. We came in at around 2:00, and the front desk staff said we could use our breakfast coupons for lunch. When my other half told them I was under the weather, we were given an extended checkout to 2:30.

About the only things I can complain about are minor. I wish I could take off only a half star.

They are:

1) As at other Hilton properties, internet access is free to HHonors members only.
2) The batteries in my TV remote were dead.

Not deserving of the Double Tree name. Room was updated but common areas looked 30 years old. Stayed on the 4tg floor facing 99 and the traffic and smog were insane. Rattley vent that wouldn't turn off heated my room to an oven. Maintenance "fixed" it. Then the freezing air turned my room icy. Turns out the thermostat was broken and he was manually adjusting it. There was no way to even turn the vent off. I switched rooms late when I'd rather be sleeping. Breakfast to go was a special accommodation as they were only set up for sit down dining. I'd rather do that, but I was in a rush. To hear this is one of the best places in Bakersfield is a disappointment, as I will be traveling there for work. I will give the other hotels a try anyway.

Double Tree Hotel in Bakersfield, CA is in need of major cleaning & renovations.  This hotel does not meet the Double Tree standards for Quality, Cleanliness, etc.  I would not recomend any from our firm to stay at this hotel until improvements are implemented.  Definitely wouldn't let any of my friends stay here.

Like most hotels in the area, seeing this place does not evoke a sense of awe and amazement. However, compared to the pricier hotels in the area, they have great service, nice looking rooms, and an incredible pool. We were down for a wedding and chose this place as an HH Honors member as we can down for a wedding. Most of the wedding party came to our hotel to use the pool all day (at 109 degrees the pool was good). Over all, a good place to stay if you need it.

Eh, I expect better for a Double Tree.Our room was not ready when we arrived at 4pm to check in. The room is adequate but showed signs of age. The toilet didn't really operate efficiently. Finally, it seemed like they were always low on towels.

This was the best visit I've had in Bakersfield, ever. Getting a good night's sleep was the key, and the beds at Doubletree made that possible. They did seem a tad smaller than standard sized Queen beds however...could it have been an optical illusion due to the larger-than-normal size of the inexpensive rooms I'm used to paying for? I wish I'd brought a tape measure to check it out LOL.

It was very quiet. We didn't book the courtyard view so there was no pool noise to deal with, only faint freeway noise from the 99, easily shut out by the sliding doors.

Everything was immaculate, including the pool. In fact it was one of the better hotel pools in Bako.

The breakfast buffet is nice, although the waffles were hard from sitting in the serving tray for a while. For $12.50/person it was a little spendy; I recommend Zingo's or any of the other little diner places up the street if you're on a budget.

This is definitely a decent place to stay in Bakersfield. I have sampled other lodging here, and other than the Four Points Sheraton, it's probably my favorite. It's clean, quiet and fairly-priced (with a very friendly and helpful staff) are all reasons why I've stayed here half a dozen times, and will continue to do so.

Plus cookies. Don't forget the cookies!

I stumbled onto the Doubletree Bakersfield recently when I had been driving for many hours and needed a meal and a good night's sleep.  I was really impressed (trust me on this--I stay at a LOT of hotels).  I got a lovely room with a king-sized bed for $129.  The room was large and spotlessly clean, as was the bathroom.  Terrific shower, and the complimentary soaps, shampoos, etc. are better than most other places offer.  The bed--oh, the bed...!  It may have been the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in.  Six pillows--bliss.  The linens are extraordinary--crisp and soft at the same time.  I slept like a baby.  Another very important plus for me:  the room temperature stayed constant, and the fan (which I chose to keep turned on) was QUIET.  There is no condenser kicking in during the night--just blessed coolness and quiet.

There's a very decent restaurant on the premises as well as a bar.  Service was attentive and friendly, and the food was quite good.

The Doubletree is by far the nicest place I've stayed in Bakersfield.  I cannot imagine staying anywhere else when I'm passing through Buck Owens territory.  I'll be back, and that's a promise.

Had a great stay overnight with family of four.  Very friendly staff for check-in, check-out, in room service and cleaning staff.  Warm greeting with complementary cookies and bottled water for the family.  Clean sheets and comfortable bed, no complaints.  Old decor and aged room but they kept it clean and comfortable, would come back again.

Not a bad night's stay.  The beds and pillows are comfortable. Front desk staff was very friendly.  Decor in the building common areas is tired, but the room looked as if it has been updated recently.

We felt sorry for the bartender in the Club.  We don't think there was anyone there on the Saturday night we were there.

I stayed here Monday evening, December 1st 2014.  The only reason this hotel is getting a one star is because i couldn't five it a zero.  Hotel looks great and check in staff was fantastic.  As soon as i opened the door to the room it smelled musty.  Room looked fine and had a beautiful bathroom and was a very large room.  I had just driven 6+ hours so was tired so i went right to sleep.  Beds were comfortable and i slept great.  I woke up in the morning and saw a large cockroach scampering up the wall near the bed.  I smashed it and it stuck to the wall.  I then went into the bathroom and there was a large cockroach in the shower.  I killed that one and then went to use the toilet and there was another roach that scampered behind it.  I killed that one too.  I stay in 4-5 hotels around California almost every week and i've never seen a roach at any other hotel ever.  I took photos of the roaches as evidence.  I was very worried that these pests would somehow get into my luggage and come home with me so i took everything out of my suitcase and triple checked.  I showered and quickly got out of there.  Avoid this hotel unless you like to stay with roaches.  Gross!

Not bad.  I'm usually a fan of Double Tree, I like their cookies.  So staying here was a no brainer.  My room is spacious, clean, and I think I have free wifi (hopefully, it doesn't show up as a charge on my bill in the morning since I didn't see rates or anything).

As tradition, I always order room service on my first night of travel.  The rib eye is fantastic, very tasty, cooked well and came with soup or salad; I opted for the soup, which was corn chowder that also did not disappoint.

Nothing way spectacular, the front desk staff was professional, average.  Moderately decorated rooms, cheap when booked through hotels.com and got credit towards my free night plus Hilton credits.

I'd stay here again.

Although the staff is friendly, and my room is clean and comfortable, this hotel is old and tired. It is in need of an update.
Internet service is very slow! My 3G service on my phone is faster than their "high speed Internet". If you are a business traveler and need to connect the Internet, consider another hotel.

Although my travels to Bakersfield are few and far between, I expected much more from Hilton for this hotel. It's an old inn at best.
The staff is very friendly, hospitable and attentive to detail. They can only do so much with this place. I've listened to loud bikes since I checked in. I do like bikes and bikers, but prefer not to hear them from my room. It's probably time for Hilton to ditch this property and move on.
Didn't expect much when I ordered a club sandwich, and got less than expected.
The bottom line, if you're ok with a clean place to sleep, this property might be for you. If you want a quiet, updated hotel, spend a few extra bucks for a better location.

awe... I'm saddened by all the bad reviews. first of all, this is not the four seasons, and it is only $89 a night so we weren't expecting much. we were just passing thru from Vegas where we actually stayed at a 5 diamonds resort (Bellagio) where I have yet to write a review for. anyway, maybe it was our timing, but we didn't experience the loud noises or partying, no trains coming through even though we were in the back near the tracks. I'm knocking off 1 star because front desk reception looked like they weren't too happy, I suppose I wouldn't be either if I had to work during the holidays, but c'mon, it's the holidays! =)

customer NO service. I used to work at a hotel and you're supposed to try and find solutions to guests concerns. I can't believe the ineptitude of the night shift workers here. If you have something that needs attention, hopefully it is during the day and you'll probably get better service.

This hotel was one of the better options in the Bakersfield area, but it still falled behind when compared to the rest of the Hilton brand.

Pros:
- Clean, spacious room.
- Comfortable bed. (Top priority in my book!)
- Complimentary Doubletree signature cookies upon check-in.
- Complimentary hot breakfast buffet for HHonors Gold and Diamond members.

Cons:
- Dated; old, tired feel.
- Decor and carpet could use some renovating ASAP.

2 stars. Yes, I've experienced better.

This place is, well, icky.  The pictures on the hotel website were deceiving.

First off, we arrived at 4:30 and the room was not ready.  We waited a bit and were served their famous chocolate cookies.  These chocolate chip cookies were made with nuts for those with allergies.  2 of my kids are allergic to nuts and good thing they read labels (unlike myself) because it says in a small circle that it contains nuts. I was surprised that they had nuts in it as many children these days have severe nut allergies.  

The hotel itself, is old and the room we were in was noisy and dirty.  Noisy - the a/c was constantly making a crackling and thumping noise all through the day and night and the bathroom toilet would not flush all the way and the water kept running after the flush.  The thing that got me the most was the mold on the ceiling in the closet.  Yes, black, fuzzy mold.  YUCK!!  I have a picture, but couldn't figure out how to upload it onto yelp. Mold cannot be good for anyone's lungs.  The only thing updated in the room might have been the bed linens. This place definitely does not stand up to the Hilton Brand name that backs Doubletree.  The price should have been at least 1/2 of what we paid.

If you're not looking for a luxurious night's stay then I would recommend this place. Very clean. Older looking though. The beds are incredibly comfortable. The rooms are very spacious.

The only major issue I had was the confusing floors and rooms. The second floor seems to be the main floor you need to be on to access the pool and exits.

All I can say is, don't expect much when you're staying in the armpit (Bakersfield) of the US.

Most importantly they are extremely accomadating. Made reservations and due to delays getting here we did not arrive until 3am. They checked me in over the phone as we had to stop at the hospital first. After 2 nights we requested a different room to add a bed. It happened in less then 10 minutes with someone arriving to our room with new keys and to assist with the change. Yes it's an older hotel and appears so, but the service is that of a time when the guest meant something. Would stay here again.

I totally disagree with the rating this place has gotten. It is definitely five star. The only thing that needed updating in our room was the chair at the desk. Other than that, everything was definitely five star. The customer service was also great as was the front desk.  Will definitely stay there again if the opportunity arises.

This is the worst experience at a hotel I had. First we were supposed to get family suites that were prepaid 3weeks in advance and confirmed 2 weeks prior to our stay. We ended up getting a room with 2 beds. Then there was a large party in the balcony below us where I called the front desk about 3 times. Finally after asking them to quiet down at 11:30 pm and calling the front desk again threatening to call the police did they quiet down. My child with special needs  didn't get to sleep till after they quieted down. Front desk staff was a manager and he was useless.

So, a bit of background why I'm giving this place five stars.

On Thanksgiving night our car broke down on the highway less than a mile from the off ramp where Double Tree is located. It was late and of course no car shops were open so we had to have Triple A haul our car and trailer to this hotel's parking lot. We made a hasty reservation online and secured a room. We were cold, tired, and still two hours from home in Fresno...aaaaand we were suddenly stranded in Bakersfield, CA. Yeah.

So needless to say that our  warm welcome to Double Tree so late at night by Matt, the front desk guy, was appreciated is an understatement. Matt was so kind. He gave us two vouchers for the breakfast buffet, told us we could leave our 5 x 8 trailer in the parking lot until we could find a way to haul it home, expressed sympathy, and extended our check out time. Oh. And he gave us cookies. COOKIES.

We booked a king sized bed. The room was average size. The bathroom was spacious with plenty of counter space. Everything seemed clean and undamaged. The carpet was slightly damp but I assume it was from a recent cleaning. We were on the first floor. I liked the fact that there was a court yard in the middle near the pool and hot tub. It gave you somewhere to walk and I'm sure those with pets (dogs are allowed under a certain weight, I believe) would find that to be a plus.

Someone above said that the lay out of the place is strange and I'll admit it's a little wacky but considering the above events we forgave this.

If I was passing through and had to stop here in Bakersfield for the night, I think I'd give this place four stars. The price we paid was something like a hundred dollars but it was sudden and we upgraded to a king sized bed. I just checked their website and for your  typical double queen bed room it's $89, which is steep to me. There's lots of shopping and restaurants nearby and of course it's fairly close to the highway.

Let's start with the staff. Excellent customer service and genuinely good people. Made checking in and out pleasant. The room itself is far from jaw dropping. It is very dated and not the cleanest hotel room I've stayed in. The carpet is stained and the furniture is weathered. My toilet would run, unless the handle was jiggled. My remote control for the TV did not operate correctly as half the buttons didn't work.  Overall, not my first pick for a hotel, but the comfortable bed, warm cookie, reasonable price, and ideal location for food makes this a hotel I would stay in again.

Avoid this dump if at all possible. The other comments about the furniture being old and worn, and the layout being a labyrinthine mess are spot on. We had a take-out meal in some friends' room, and spent part of the time chasing/killing cockroaches.

While some of their staff were helpful, others bordered on the obstructive. We booked our room through Expedia, but had to leave a day early. We asked Expedia if we could get out of paying the last night's lodging and they said "fine with us if the hotel will agree." Expedia then called them twice to get their OK, but hotel refused. At checkout I queried them about this and they said it was Expedia who was refusing. If that's so, I asked, why did Expedia call them and not just tell me "no deal?" I just got a blank look.

Ok I've read all the reviews here I was skeptical of staying. However, this place isn't so bad as everyone said. For heaven sake it's BAKERSFIELD!! First, the room wasn't bad nice big and comfy. The place is a little out dated but still it's clean. I guess my room wasn't bad cause I was a hilton honors member. Hilton honors get to stay on the top floor. Also this is a pet friendly hotel so dogs are going to be here, they have a nice area around the pool for them to walk around. I would stay here again for work. Oh the best part is that if you checked in on yelp you get 20% percent off. So for the price and all I think this place is great!!!

I liked my one night stay here very much. The beds are SO comfortable! Somehow both soft and firm at the same time! And so many pillows!! I just needed a good night's sleep after a long drive up and DoubleTree delivered at a reasonable rate.

While the price is good, there's a reason for that! It is definitely a little run down and in need of a remodel. Half of the gym equipment does not work and only has 1 elliptical and 2 treadmills compared to what it says online about 2 floors of nautilus equipment and a running track. I believe these amenities are at a nearby gym, which is misleading.
The rooms are spacious but just feel/look dirty. My heat did not work so I called the front desk at 8pm and no one ever came to fix it. I woke up to 60 degree chilly room. I am supposed to stay there for 3 night but plan on checking out into a marriott property which have better upkeep.
The pool and meeting rooms are a nice convenience, but not for the other downfalls which mean more to me.

Room 4, customer service 1.  Customer service cancels out everything.  Everyone knows that.  

Gym opens at 6.  I get my butt up at 5:30 so I can make the most of my time.  Doors are locked.  I call front desk at 6:05... the only person with a key isn't here.  I wait for 30 mins doing lunges and squats in the freakin hallway.  Still no key.  How is there only one key to the gym?  Seriously?! Do you know how hard it is to get up early in the morning and work out?  Apparently not.  Take it from me:: it's freakin hard.  I did my part... If it opens at 6, the door should be open 10 mins early in my opinion.  Oh - and there should be more than one key that opens doors.  That's all.

So freaking tired walking into this hotel I was anxious to take a shower and snuggle into bed.

The bed and the warm cookie they greeted me with were the only positives about this place. once I fell asleep, I slept like a baby. the warm cookie was delicious and the woman at the front desk was a sweetheart.

The bathroom was horrible! I went to take a shower, turned it on to warm up and when I came back the floor was flooded! why? because when you turn on the center part that kind of squirts water straight out at you it's pretty much broken and sprays all over the place!

The furniture was also old with leather coming off of the chairs etc. There were  stains on the floor. Yuck.

it was also near impossible to find our room. me and my brother took 10 minutes to find it even after we were given a map with directions.

Stay here often, always book family suites. Booked 3 weeks prior, confirmed 2 weeks prior of having the 2 family suites, arrive get 2 rooms with double beds, I got bumped because I booked with an outside group! WTH... I'm a Hilton Honors Cardholder and this is how they treat people! They offered comp dinner or comp breakfast I have plans!   Does anyone come to  Bakersfield without plans? I needed a separate room for one of the party because she has disabilities, do you think they care, nope. Manager  Nick was arrogant and incompetent! You mean someone can pay in advance $189.00 for each room, have it paid out of the account 3 weeks ago a get bumped, not professional and not customer friendly!

This was once a fine hotel. You can tell by the large rooms, lobby and restaurant. But the carpet is filthy. As soon as you walk into the lobby you can smell it. It is filthy in the halls and rooms as well. The furniture is old and some are beat up. The maids are very poorly trained and do not do their job. The ice bucket didn't have a plastic bag because "they are out". They are also out of Kleenex. The drinking glasses in the room had lipstick on them and still had liquid in the bottom even though they had the little white caps on top of them supposedly indicating that they were clean. The maid doesn't vacuum or clean the tub either. The manager should have to stay here for a few nights. They have given up. Hilton should be embarrassed and they should fire the management and start over.

Yellow/brown dimely lit hallways and dark rooms. Shabby worn interior from the 80's Needs to be renovated. Was on the side of the freeway on the lower level.
People had dogs barking on their pourches of their rooms.  Strange Vibe and layout.

The linens were clean and towels soft. The room I had was huge and had a balcony. BUT... The rug was soooo old and dirty, it was seriously disgusting.  There were a lot of little things that were really dirty too, like mold around the shower tiles and old dirty ventilation screens. And the water tastes strange. I won't stay here again. Even for a DoubleTree, it was a disappointment.

Quite possibly the most run down hotel I've stayed at in 20 years.  A total dive would be a fairly accurate description. Cancelled my Hilton  Honours program after staying here. The carpet was so sticky I immediately put my socks back on.

We stayed at the hotel Halloween weekend. My husband just figured out today 11-30 he was missing his very expense boots. Called talked to house keeping gave a distribution of the boots. They said they would get back to me within 2hrs I got a call that they had them and would have them waiting for us at the front desk. So happy they were honest!!!  Will defiantly stay again!!!

In short: this place is a total dump and should be avoided. I spend at least 20 nights a month in hotels, frequently Hiltons,  for work and it's rare that I feel strongly enough to post a review, good or bad. Once you've navigated the labyrinthy maze that is their remarkably inconvenient layout, you arrive at your room. This will be a new level of dingy, dusty, and disrepair. The terrible theme of their decor does not inspire feelings of comfort or relaxation, and is certainly not conducive to work. The furniture looks like something you'd find at a garage sale, and nothing about the room makes you confident that anything is clean. Avoid this hotel. There is a courtyard by Marriott right next door that I'm sure is better, because it doesn't get much worse.

If I could leave a zero I would - one of the worst hotels I've stayed at for the price.  Our room had a notice in it that they would be turning the water off for an hour at 11 AM.  They did not mention this at check-in, but oh well right because checkout is at 11.  The problem with this though is that the ice machines on our floor were not working.  The carpet in our room was horrifically filthy.  The wallpaper was dirty.  The shower was stained and things basically look like they were falling apart.  I will definitely never stay here again and recommend until they do some remodeling, nobody else should either.  This was definitely not a good way to start off our Disneyland vacation.  Boo Hilton.

Poop on the shower towels!!!!!! Yes you heard me right. There was poo on my husbands shower towel! Oh there's more but the poo was enough! I've never in my life encountered something so vile and disgusting. We discovered the towel this morning but last night the heat didn't work. The floors were so dirty and had many stains on them and my husband found a strange orange pill that looked like some sort of pharmaceutical or narcotic on the floor. The front desk comped our rooms however I feel that that was just not enough to fix having feces on your bath towel. The front desk lady was extremely apologetic and shocked but I just feel like this hotel is run down, needs major help and someone needs to care more about the hotel, it's guests and its conditions especially with such a big name like Double tree behind it. I felt like I was staying in a crappy motel not a hotel costing over $100. Do better double tree bakersfield!

Sadly disappointed ~

I know it's Bakersfield but still you would think because Hilton owns it they would live up to the luxury of Hilton. WRONG! I previously stayed here before and the service was not all that great. Room was ok seemed as if they had upgraded. Bed was comfortable. We'll I decided to go back as I am from out of town and visit family often in Bakersfield. This time service was still blah and the room was old. The furniture and floor was disgusting. Old and torn. The 2nd floor we were on smelled like smoke and the carpet seemed as if it was 100 years old. Yuck! The desk chair looks as if they picked it up from the dumpster. The dresser drawers would close. The room carpet was stained. The single seat cushioned chair was ripped. Very gross and disgusting. Will not be going back. Step it up Hilton!!!!

WARNING WARNING This was by far our worst experience at a hotel ever!!!! DO NOT PARK IN THE REAR OF THE PROPERTY NEAR FREEWAY! Our truck got broken into and over 8000$ worth of property stolen. We stopped for quick sleep and did not completely empty truck out and someone came through fence and broke into two cars!  Hotel knows of the problem, police say it happened regularly in that location.   Unfortunately we had to learn the hard way!!!! We have always stayed at Hilton's and never had a problem.  Very disappointing!

Bed bugs. I know they're a risk at any hotel, but the Doubletree should have better pest control than that. The linens had obvious blood stains from them, so it's not like they can play ignorant. Also, I killed 3 roaches.

I have to write a review because so many were bad and as it turned out not what I found to be true. Although the hotel furniture is well worn it was very clean. I found absolutely no evidence of bed bugs at all. And the bed was very comfortable. My only complaint is the water wasn't hot enough for my shower.

The building is OLD, spread out and finding your room can be a challenge. The room labeling is very confusing and feels like a maze. The rooms face the parking, low on the ground and so not too safe, someone easily can jump into the balcony. The room is big but not cozy, not luxurious, and cheap looking. The carpet is old and dirty, the style is dingy, it's like a cheap motel. The bathroom is small and uncomfortable, the room itself is cold, uninviting, dated. Had a voucher for free breakfast, I picked up scrambled eggs, my server, who was very nice, informed me that hot food is $5.00 extra, it was ridiculous. I will not return.

OMG I am so grossed out right now.  If I don't write a review I will never forgive myself.  This hotel just cannot be a corporate property.  There is no way that Hilton knows this place exists.  The carpets are so disgusting!!! I found several strands of hair in my bed and what appeared to be dead bed bugs on the sheets.  I requested another room so they "upgraded" me out of the below ground level first floor to the second floor "suite" which had equally disturbing sanitation concerns.  Pictures do more justice than words.  I will NEVER stay here again.  Back to the Marriott I will run!!!

Very clean and nice hotel, comfortable beds, great room service. Only complaint is elevators aren't conveniently located to many rooms, and noise from highway 99 is very loud. Overall good stay, just will request a room on the other side of the highway next time.

I've been staying here for a week and I have to say I would definitely stay here again. The staff was amazing. They are friendly and eager to help. The room was tended to everyday. The fact that the bed was made when I got back made my stay very pleasant. The Odyssey bar has a big dance floor and friendly servers. I like the fact that they had music and drinks and I didn't have to leave the hotel. Even the WiFi is decent, considering the amount of people that stay here. Overall I'm glad I stayed here and will definitely return.

Roaches ran across the floor when I walked in. I asked for a different room but it still seemed old and dirty. Then I went in the jacuzzi and there were tons of dead roaches floating in the pool.
Next time I'm in Bakersfield, I might as well stay at Motel 6. Probably just as nice for much less $.

I think after my last review I've been here about 3 or 4 times and it just doesn't get better.

To be fair I'll say that the beds are really comfy, but other than that everything else sucks.

On this visit there was hair all over the bathroom, which I tried to clean up before I used the toilet. And I took photos so you all can see what I'm talking about.

Also this time they ended up charging me a $50 pet fee, which they never did before and that's just way too damn expensive. I can understand max $25 a night for a pet, but $50? Give me a break! You guys don't even clean your bathrooms properly.

So basically if you have a pet and end up staying here for 1 night you'll end up paying $150 and that doesn't even include breakfast.

This place is definitely not worth the price and I'm glad I was able to find another place just a few blocks over that only charges $63 a night with a more affordable pet fee of $15 a day.

I have stayed here many times for business travel. It's ok. It's hit or miss...sometimes it doesn't feel as clean as it should. The last time I stayed here there was a swarm of high school students that were completely out of control. The hotel did nothing to quiet them. It was frustrating. But mostly this hotel is meh...the cookies are good I guess.

I have only rented rooms here twice since I live in Bakersfield. I have attended countless events here, though. They have a relatively nice set-up. The rooms that I have been in were clean, but dated. The swimming pool was nice to use a time or two, also. Overall, I think there are nicer hotels with nicer rooms in this area, but you really can't go wrong with this hotel. I was here as recently as a week ago to attend a conference, which is what usually takes me to this hotel. The meeting rooms have been upgraded in recent years, but get a lot of wear and tear. My biggest complaint about this place is that the parking can be difficult at times. The parking lot fills up fast!

Because of cleanliness issues, I would give this 3 starts but because of the staff, I've bumped it up to four.  I stayed for 1 night with my two large dogs, the balcony and courtyard are nice to have for their comfort ($50 additional fee). Nice size room with comfortable  bed and balcony overlooking the courtyard and pool. The room was not as clean or in the kind of condition I expect from a Hilton property though.  There was lipstick on one of the hand towels and a sticky substance on the desk.  The desk chair has seen better days and should be replaced.  I had a very nice room service meal which included a Harris Ranch NY steak but it didn't come with the asparagus that was advertised but a substitution  of  carrots, zucchini and cauliflower none of which are a fave.  Hilton gold and diamond members are entitled to a continental breakfast or can upgrade to the full hot buffet for $5 (I chose this option) in their cafe but it's not available as room service.  Because I had my dogs with me, I asked to get it in a to go container to eat in my room which they happily allowed.  Every staff member I encountered was kind, friendly, helpful and greeted my dogs nicely.  This property  could use a little spit and polish but I would stay here again when traveling with the pups.

So I tried to get out of this as I purchased my room on Priceline and then saw the reviews.  Unfortunately my room was non refundable so we kept our fingers crossed and checked in.  The hotel is older and I told the lady at the desk about the reviews I had read and I wanted a clean room.  She put us in a "honors" room and it was clean to the eye just old.  Everything was old and even smelled old.  I was ok then.  M daughter then went to plug in her phone and behind the night stand found qtips toast and trash.  Mind you the stand is not pushed against the wall and this should be checked.  Anyways I'm the first to admit I like nice hotels!  This is not one of them though and if back in the area I will not stay here again.  Service at the desk was ok. I will also not trust Priceline again as this was considered a 3.7 star hotel and I would not give it more then a two. I spent $90 on a $50 hotel.

As a Hilton Honors Diamond Member for over 10-years, I stay in a lot of different hotels throughout the country.  I have to say, that the Doubletree has the distinction of being the dumpiest, dirtiest and worst of the lot I have stayed at.

I don't mind older hotels, aged is something that occurs, but filthy, unacceptable.  I was upgraded to a suite and it looked like someone changed the oil in a car or re-built an engine in the room. The floors, fixtures, walls, everything, was filthy.  Even walking through the hotel, all of the baseboards are dusty, dirty and have not been cleaned in a long, long time.

Do yourself a favor, do not stay here.  Would not be surprised if their is a bed bug infestation that I was lucky enough to miss.  It evident the the owner of this franchised hotel is not putting any money back into the property and I wouldn't be surprised if Hilton pulls the Doubletree affiliation due to the condition of this dump.

Don't walk, run away from this place,

They're five star rating in my book immediately went down to one star when I checked out just now.  Most employees there were very helpful and have asked me if I needed help with my luggage (at least three people).  I also like the fact that they gave me an extra hour to check out.  

As I was checking out at the front desk, my bill total was $189.61 and I gave the Filipina manager $190.11 in cash.  I believe her name is Len (her name isn't in my receipt).  I even reminded her that there was 11 cents in the sleeve of my room key.  She gave me my receipt but didn't offer me my 50 cents change back.  Maybe she forgot and it was an honest mistake but the fact that 61 cents vs 11 cents are fairly noticeable that there's a difference there.  50 cents isn't a big deal but it's the principal.

I read the reviews on Yelp and was a little worried, but we had a great stay here. It's not a five star hotel, but for the cost, it was just fine.

We chose this hotel because we could bring two medium sized dogs. Our ground room floor had direct access to their courtyard with a large space to walk the dogs.

We got cookies upon a quick and efficient check-in process and the room was clean and quiet.

There was also lots of free parking.
