I didn't stay overnight, but I attended a convention at this Hilton.  While the setting was fine, and the front desk staff were pleasant, I was very disappointed with the catering services.  Not only was the food that was provided inedible (the chicken was so dry that it was almost jerky), the service was awful.  Members of my group had to pitch in to help in serving and cleaning up the meal, otherwise it would have taken more than an hour just to serve 50 people.  This isn't acceptable at a lower class hotel, much less at a Hilton.

Clean, exceptionally comfortable, spacious, friendly, accommodating, awesome.  

The rockin' folks at the Bakersfield Jazz Festival put us up here, and it was the icing on the "totally class act" cake.  

Next time I'm in Bakersfield, I'm staying there, no question.

Quiet very curteous. I think the workers allow their family to use the pool though so no towels were there and it wasn't inviting to guests. Walls were thick but you'll hear a train every now and then because you are right next to the train yard. Beds were not firm enough for Garden Inn brand.

We were pleasantly surprised by the hotel as the rate quoted was $59 a night. I thought it would be a dump but it was very nice   Clean, friendly staff, comfortable beds. I agree with another reviewer that that ac/heating system is not up to date.
About breakfast...if you don't want the unlimited buffet you can pay $1 for each item. I had the oatmeal. My husband had cereal with milk and fruit. Coffee is free.  The cost was $3. Can't go wrong with that.

We brought 5 children with us under the age of 4.  The hotel accommodated us with two adjoining rooms, and great housekeeping service.   After our beds were re-made, the kids dolls were placed lovingly on the pillows.  We forgot our thermos and a sweater, both were immediately shipped to our home address.   The price was very fair, and the staff is polite and friendly.   We were more than happy with our stay.

I travel quite a bit with my job.  I am partial to funky, privately owned joints and Holiday Inn Expresses, my co-workers prefer Marriott places and the procurement people prefer Hilton.  Our procurement person won out on this one.  This Hilton was tucked away in a gaggle of hotels on the south part of Bakersfield.  Set next to a Red Lion, Doubletree and Courtyard by Marriott, this hotel looked like something plopped down by old school soviet architects.

I'm not sure what demographic group Garden Inn is supposed to target,  I assume traveling professionals.  I found the room fairly nice, comfortable king sized bed with down comforter, plenty of pillows, coffee maker, fridge, microwave, etc.  Only negative with the room is they have one of those forced air heaters to keep the room warm.  As I have lost about 50 pounds in the past year, I chill easy as I don't have that beer flab insulating me anymore.  With this room it was either too dry or it was too cold.  Just me I guess.

Hilton Garden Inn annoyed me a bit initially because they charge $9.95 for their breakfast.  My breakfast needs are simple, fruit, toast, cereal and/or yogurt.  Nothing heavy.  But if you are a Hilton preferred customer, I guess the breakfast is free.  Also, this particular Hilton seemed to be a little loose about that.  I didn't see anyone paying a bill, and no one was presenting a bill.  Breakfast is OK, in addition to the standard continental fare, they also make omlettes or eggs to order and serve potatoes, sausage and bacon.  In the evening, they have a makeshift bar that serves drinks and some basic bar food.  I didn't partake in that but it definitely looks convenient if one doesn't want to leave the hotel.

Front desk was very freindly, and the computer room had every kind of device you could possibly need to get things done on the road, including a fax.  As was mentioned in other reviews, the health room was pretty weak.  One tread mill, one elliptical and one bike.   The HD TV on the tread mill won't even work unless you plug in the head phones,  I never did find the jack for the head phones.  As this is the time of year everyone is trying to work off those holiday pounds, one treadmill wasn't enough to go around.  I had a tough time finding an opportunity to get on the thing.

Like the previous reviewer, I am subtracting a star for the lame fitness room, otherwise this was a fairly decent place to stay.

You can't go wrong when the place gives you fresh baked cookies when you check in. The hotel staff even let my coworkers and I use the TV in the lobby to play Nintendo WII (my coworker brought it with him so we would have something to do in Bakersfield for the week).

I am only giving it 3 stars because of their extremely depressing fitness room. They only have 3 machines! One elliptical, one ghetto treadmill, and one bike. The hotel advertises their Stay Fit Kit for their guests that you can check out at the front desk but they only had 2 and it was always checked out.

Another thing is when you step out of the hotel it STINKS like butt. There is the Kern County Special waste facility about  a mile away.

If you have to go to Bakersfield I recommend staying at the Homewood Suites. Some coworkers of mine stayed there and apparently they give you free food and beer every evening.

Decent HGI, but nothing spectacular. The rates were pretty inexpensive, though. And it is great to have the mini-fridge and microwave in the room. They had a little TV in the room, and while I understand not all hotels have an HDTV, usually the HGI's I've been to do.

The A/C system was a bit difficult to understand and function.

Other than that, it was a pretty decent stay but nothing out of the ordinary either way. If you're an HHonors member, you get free breakfast and water when you arrive. So that was a plus!

I've stayed at this HGI a couple times as a pit stop to Vegas and our stays have always been pleasant.

The rooms were very clean and decent.  However, it couldn't hurt to use a little refresh from an interior decorator.  They still have tube TV's, which kind of threw me off a little bit seeing one of those things, as if it were an rare antique, but I'm not going to knock them down for my 1-hour of TV viewing.  The bed is really comfy, just make sure you have the dials set to your liking, there's one on each side for the king sized beds.  The chair and ottoman were a little old school but hey, it matched the wallpaper trim, which was trend before the whole concept of crown moulding became popular.   Bathroom was nice, clean and spacious.

The front desk staff was pretty friendly, even during the wee hours of the morning when we'd check in.

Overall, this HGI was comfortable and is in a really convenient location off the 58 and 99.  I wouldn't mind staying here again during a future pit stop to Vegas!

Once again, had a great stay at the Hilton Garden Inn, this one in Bakersfield CA on our way home from our week long vacation! Looking for the best hotel at an affordable rate, look no further! And did I mention, they have Bath and Body toiletries?! Rooms are very clean, roomy and the beds are very comfortable. The staff is friendly and accommodating, will always look for a Hilton Garden Inn during our travels from here on out!

I was all ready to give this hotel five stars...until I got up this morning and found out that the breakfast in the lobby is NOT free.  This is a quote from their website: "Comp Breakfast Coffee/Tea Area."  What would you think?

When I book a hotel, my top three requirements are cleanliness, free wireless internet, and free breakfast.  According to my research, this place scored on all three.

Aside from this one failing, the hotel is beautiful, very clean, very nice, very comfortable.  The bathroom was IMMACULATE, which is a really big deal for me.  If the bathroom grosses me out, I will never stay there again.  But everything in the room and in the common areas was perfect.  

If this place was a lot cheaper, I wouldn't mind going out and buying breakfast.  But for this price, I expected at least to have a continental breakfast.

Fresh baked cookies?  Guess they ran out when I arrived.  They did offer a couple bottles of water, ice cold. Nice.

In town on business, picked this place because I knew where it was, having stayed next door a couple times at the Courtyard, and it was "reasonably" priced.

Room was comfy.  Bed could have used a few more pillows....and courtesy of having two beds, it did.

The chair at the desk was pathetic.  TV was old school.  Time to upgrade to flat panel and HD.

Parking was tight in the front, but plentiful in the back of the building.

Didn't try the restaurant.  $11 for breakfast in the morning.

Would have preferred a Marriott, but since they were much higher priced for this week, it was ok here.

Internet worked great.

I stayed here for about 2 weeks. It's clean and friendly. The restaurant is very good considering it's a hotel. Awesome breakfast, but no complimentary continental. There's an indoor pool with jacuzzi, and a small gym. Great staff. Very happy with my stay. The rooms are a good size. Nice mattresses and awesome plush pillows. Don't walk in to reserve. You get $30 cheaper a night if you find the specials on hotel.com , etc.

Decent room at a decent price.  Stayed here before a track day at Buttonwillow Raceway.  Stayed on the first floor, though the ceilings are vaulted on that floor which makes the room feel awkwardly tall.

Walking distance from a few places to eat/drink was nice as well.

I would stay here again.

Terrible disappointment, we chose this hotel because it had an indoor pool for our son to swim in after a long drive. We walked through the door and were hit by a wall of noxious fumes. The chlorine was so strong in the pool and hot tub it was like sitting in a vat of bleach. We made it maybe 3 minutes and still walked out with bloodshot eyes. This hotel advertises a made to order breakfast but what they don't tell you is that unlike all the competition, they will charge you for every little thing. There are a number of good quality hotels in area- avoid this one!

We recently traveled across the country staying in an array of hotels from Michigan all the way to California. This was the worst experience so far. Although the hotel room was clean we have been appalled by several things. Went to what we assumed was a free continental breakfast and ended up being charged for each item we picked up (had we known we'd be paying for some fruit and cold cereal we would have gone out to breakfast) When we returned to our room at 8 am the maid was already in here. My husband asked if she could please come back once we'd checked out and she ignored him and proceeded to spray bleach all over the bathroom where our toiletries were still on the counter! Our business here in Bakersfield is not for another hour or so and we have nowhere to go but we feel completely uncomfortable and unwelcome and will not stay in a Hilton Garden Inn again.

Just returned home from a short trip to Bakersfield.  I chose this hotel because I had other family members staying here as well.  The staff was so helpful in getting us all near each other.

The room itself was very nice.  It showed some signs of wear, but was clean and comfortable and very spacious.  I had a king, so there was a nice, comfortable king bed, a flat screen TV, a chair with ottoman, a desk with a desk chair, two night tables beside the bed, a food "hutch" which housed a mini fridge, a microwave, a small coffee pot and the associated coffee stuff (cups, packets of coffee (1 decaf and 1 regular), creamers/sugars (2 of each), stir sticks, etc).  

There was plenty of storage in the room:  huge closet with lots of hangers, drawers in the night tables, desk, food "hutch" (also had some cabinets), and a dresser which served as the TV stand.  It had a full sized ironing board (but didn't notice if it was a full sized iron or not--I'm sure it was, I just didn't notice).  

The bathroom had a tub/shower combination.  Plenty of towels and wash cloths, soap for the sink and tub area, SMALL bottles of shampoo and conditioner (I don't need much and was only there for two nights so it was plenty for me), body lotion and one of those small compact wall hair dryers (1500 watts).

The staff was exceptionally efficient and nice.  They were extremely patient with our party, lol, and it was much appreciated.

They have a gym and a business center.  The business center had two computers and a printer so you could print boarding passes, etc.

The "restaurant" is open for breakfast and possibly for dinner, though we only ate there once for breakfast.  It's sort of a buffet.  You order your hot food, then have your choice of cereals, muffins/pastries, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit.  They had some juice and coffee/tea as well.  I think it costs just over $10 which I think is reasonable.

This was a one-time trip, but if I ever DO have to return to Bakersfield, I would not hesistate to stay here again.

I'm on the fence about this place. it's comfortable, most of the staff is very friendly. indoor pool/hot tub is a plus. It feels comfortable enough to consider it a home away from home type of place, but that's about it. I can't say it feels special, or extravagant. It basically catered to my needs well, and that's it. I stayed a week, by the end of the week it sort felt like I was out staying my welcome.

A few things that stood out that I didn't really like were:

the price of breakfast, I think it should be free. although it's free for small children, which is good

sometimes it took a while for housekeeping to clean my room, but while I was talking to my housekeeper i found out she had (in my opinion) too many rooms to clean in an 8 hour period. she definitely had too much of a workload.

I saw that guests would leave their room service food trays on the hallway floor, and as I came and went, they were still in the hallway. It was a bit disgusting, I would have liked for them to be picked up right away. Especially since housekeeping is lingering in the hallway ALL day, I know they saw the trays, but must of figured that they would pick it up once they got to that section

the waiters that worked during breakfast, were very helpful. Minus a waitress that kept trying to charge me for food that I ordered for my child.

Overall it was an ok stay, I liked that the rooms weren't cramped, the extra storage space, the microwave in the room, and the washer/dryer was reasonably priced. I would stay here again if I had to, but I'd rather try a different place.

I have stayed at this Hilton GI three times in the last few years, usually when I am up in the Bakersfield area on business.

Parking is very good in front and you are welcomed with a spacious lobby.  Check in is easy and fast, though at the hour I check in it should be, fairly late on a Saturday.  The clerks have always been friendly.  The room has always been clean and well maintained.  A refrigerator is a nice to have.  The TV has always been good, though it is standard def and the number of free channels somewhat limited.  You would think they could offer more of the basic cable channels without charge.

The Wi-Fi is free and fast.

My only complaint is the cost of the complimentary breakfast---it is not free.  I always eat somewhere else.

I will stay here again as it is convienient to my location and easy access to the freeway for the trip home.

We came to Bakersfield for my daughters Cheer Competition this past weekend.  We had reservations for Saturday night but had to be at the Arena by 9:45 so we were in Bakersfield by 8:30 am.  We called the Hotel and asked what the earliest we could check in was and they told us to come by and they had two rooms ready that we could get in right then.  We were so amazed that not only did they accomodate us but they did not charge us an additional fee because we were there so early.  The entire staff was great, Oscar, Tony, everyone we dealt with were amazing.  Our room was clean, the beds were very comfortable, and we loved the Keurig.  We had a lot of people stay at the Doubletree and we raved about our experience at the Hilton Garden Inn and will stay here next year along with the others that stayed at the other hotels.  Thank You for the great hospitality!!!!

CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN!
I was so pleased with my stay at Hilton Garden Inn.  We were a party of 8 and I was so appreciative with their accommodations of adjoining rooms.
The customer service exceeded my expectations and all the amenities were a wonderful surprise to us for the price we paid.
For being so busy with Christmas, banquets, clients, and such,  I was pleased with all the extra towels and cleanliness in gym, restrooms, and the indoor HEATED pool area.
Lots of smiles and friendly greetings.  The picturesque lobby was warming for the Holiday Season.

I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bakersfield on my first and likely only trip to Bakersfield for work ever.  As a Hilton-family hotels regular, pretty familiar how these places are organized.  They're built to plan and this one is no different.

First, just an observation... where are the cookies at the front desk after 4pm?  Come on, HGI Bakersfield... COME ON!

Alright... moving on.  If you've ever been to HGI's, you're gonna feel right at home.  It's a very familiar layout.  Huge parking lot with plenty of spaces near the entrance.  There is no charge for parking either.

The rooms are clean and spacious, equipped with a minifridge and microwave available.  A standard def 27" TV in a cabinet, which makes watching TV a bit difficult if you're sitting at the work desk.  There are plenty of outlets.  Complimentary in-room Wi-Fi is available and the speeds are decent - fast enough to run Netflix.  It is unsecured (no passcode or room verification), so there may be the risk that non-guest leechers will slow it down.  5 bars of AT&T 3G, although the connection isn't particularly fast or stable.

I was not able to try the on site restaurant, but there is a Great American Grill and it is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Staff is friendly and helpful.  They were able to accomodate my special requests.  However, the one gross moment at this hotel which is single handedly bringing my star rating down is the fact that there was a hairy bar of soap in my bathroom.  I'm sure it was just an oversight by housekeeping, but it was still really nasty.

This was otherwise a quality HGI, the prices were very good, and definitely worth consideration when you're in Bakersfield.

Earlier this month, I needed to be in Bakersfield, CA and saw that Travelocity had a $24 plus cheaper rate on it's site than on Hilton.com for the Garden Inn. I have found lower rates on Starwood and Marriott's sites in the past 2 years and both responded within hours on my submission and confirmed my find. I am 100% satisfied with their process and with these companies and it is why I give them 80-90% of my business. They support their written promises with 100% backup! I followed the procedure as outlined on Hilton's site and submitted the online form. About 23 hours later, give or take a few minutes, I heard back from Hilton, granted they have up to 24 hours to respond. My claim was denied because Hilton could not find the rate indicated on Travelocity's 23 hours previously. It doesn't matter whether you have a screen shot of the site with day and time noted, Hilton will not honor it. Their escape clause for them to weasel out of their "best rate guarantee"? The offer is only validated at the time "they" or Hilton initiates the search. If that search is conducted 23 hours after yours was conducted and the rate doesn't exist then, then too bad, so sad for you the customer. If you search the blogosphere with "Hilton best rate guarantee", you will find page after page of dissatisfied travelers. Travelers be warned if you attempt to catch Hilton at this extremely deceptive business practice! After I responded to their initial denial, which I replied via email,Hilton responded with the details I mentioned above 9 DAYS LATER! A very sad turn to an iconic American Hotel brand: greed plays out over taking care of what's right with the customer.

Really - a 2 - 3 star experience.  

We have stayed here many times, and this time was the lest satisfying.  The desk staff was not overly friendly - did her job and that was about it.  We are Hilton Honors members and were told our water and snack were in our room; they were not.

The room was clean - but we could never get the bed firmness adjustment to work - so . . poor night's sleep.  (so . . 1 or 2 stars here).  The windows were not clean and it didn't look like "new" dirty -

Breakfast staff in the morning were very nice and accommodating.

Gym and pool are nowhere near what I expect from the HGI chain. Small bar, but the bartender Artuturo makes up for the lack of space with extreme hospitality that includes grilled jalapeños every night.

Be advised- the special beds are only available in king size at this location

Assuming that an average hotel has three stars, and adding/subtracting stars as I deem appropriate--

(+1) Rooms are clean, sizeable (for two people in a four-person room, anyway), and come equipped with a machine to prepare instant coffee.

(+1) The cleaning staff is awesome: one showed us a shortcut to our room; another vehemently agreed with my boyfriend's remark about the conspicuous scent of cannabis throughout the halls, commenting "awww yeah, that sweeeeeet sticky icky!"; and all heeded the 'privacy, please' door hanger.

(+/- 1) The third-story view of the parking lot sure is view-y.

(-1) Checking-in, the check-in lady did not provide any information on hotel wifi, even when asked. Checking-out, I saw a large sign advertising free wifi via the free Hilton Rewards club (sign up at front desk!) and felt like a moron.

(-1) An arbitrary second demerit for the wifi thing, because this is my yelp account and I can be as petty as I want to and currently feel that I shouldn't've be expected to read a sign that the hotel chooses to aim at its customer's backs

--I can conclude that this Hilton Garden Inn is a pleasant-if-average hotel. Three stars!

Arturo. It all start with drinks and dinner. Arturo is one of the best in the business, this gentlemen should be out training others what customer service is all about. We hit this place about twice a year, treated like we live here.

We stayed here when we visited our newborn nephew. Like him, I slept like a baby. The bed linen was crisp and the mattress plush. The pillows were so comfortable that I only realized later that I didn't need to fluff them as I all too often do at other hotels. The room was clean, the air fresh, and the shower had an appropriate amount of water pressure. I liked the extra touch of complimentary Keurig coffee, a microwave, and a mini-fridge. Since we will be visiting Bakersfield more often now, the Hilton Garden Inn will no doubt be our go-to overnight accommodation.

Bartender Arturo kills it. Stopping over in Bakersfield sucks ass but he makes the hotel bar happen. Nothing like downing yourself in Coronas all night to make you forget you're in a total taint licking butthole smelling town. Smells like manure on the patio but like buenosity in my bottle. Thanks, Arturo, for helping me forget how poopy this town is. Room is clean and when I poo I don't feel like I need an ass gasket. +1 for the simple things. Staying here again if I ever find myself in this place.

Had a great experience here! The beds were absolutely plush, and they offered complimentary k-cups for the keurig in the rooms! The bartender, Arturo, was great and all of the staff was especially nice. The decor could use a bit of a remodel, however, I'm not complaining because it was very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend and stay here again and again!

Carpets are filthy, rooms have wallpaper borders, hallways are a bit noisy and you can also hear exterior noise.  Furniture is outdated and mattresses are very firm and hard.  Staff are friendly.

Well, I wasn't thrilled about staying in Bakersfield, but I had no choice.  Was here for business, so I thought, what better place to stay than Hilton, where I'm a Gold Member!?  What a mistake.  First off, the girl at the front desk wasn't exactly warm and welcoming.... the view from my room was appalling, but who cares, I'm only here to sleep.  But....the room smelled like old gym socks.  Whatever, it was only for one night, right?  I decided to rack up a few extra Hilton points and eat downstairs at their restaurant.  Their servers were GREAT.  They really worked hard and wanted to make sure I was pleased.  BUT...the food tasted like butt.  (No, I don't know what that actually tastes like but I could only imagine)....and the lobby smelled like a combination of hot cardboard box and sweet smelling sweat on a 12 year old.  I decide to just go back to my room, take a hot shower and go to bed.  I crawl into bed and find a HUGE booger on top of the comforter near the pillow!  And NO!  It I know for a FACT it was not from me....at least this time anyway.  I'm so disgusted by this place.  I will try the Double Tree next time, or another Hilton, but CERTAINLY not this place again.  YUCKI!  If I could post photos, I would....because I have them to prove what a dump this place is.

I booked our reservation through Expedia.  We got in fairly late, but the staff working was very accommodating and friendly.  Our room we very clean.  I've worked in the Hotel industry and am fairly picky about places.  The beds were very comfortable and the rooms where very large.  I have no complaints and am very happy with our stay! I would definitely stay again.

Hotel staff was good. Hotel rooms are very dated it's like being back in the 90s or late 80s with the green carpeting. Beds were clean but older and not as comfortable as they should be. Breakfast in the morning is great however they should have a free happy hour as the Hamptons do in the evenings. The gym is tiny with no free weights and only three machines for running. Overall decent hotel but I think I'll be going back to the Hampton Inn near the airport much newer and cleaner with the outdoor pool that you can actually cool off in in the Bakersfield heat.

Hilton Garden in is a great hotel. We stayed here for 2 days during my aunts wedding. It was a great experience. The room was a good size, the bed was comfy especially the pillows and I like how we even got a Keurig in our room! My dad got joy out of that. My sister was in the pool all the time and also the breakfast was great. Unlimited bacon and potatoes!! We will be coming back in the future. Thanks for the comfortable stay, Hilton (:

Well the hotel was nice overall however for being a Hilton I would have expected the shower head not to be wonky with a slow draining tub. Also had ants in bathroom on the 3rd floor. Maybe it was just our room.

Food is mediocre at best; no flavor and cheap ingredients. They even served me a meal with missing ingredients.  The wait staff claims they just don't have asparagus, even though it's on the menu. She says nobody ever says anything. Horrible reason to not purchase an ingredient (not a side dish) for the fettuccine.
Bartender had to remake three drinks out of the eight she made incorrectly for customers.
Room was okay and even negotiated a lower rate with very little effort. I had the option of a smoking room for much less, but that's not for me.
Close to restaurants, shopping, and 24 Hour Fitness.

Great for the price (I booked through expedia and paid $68). Clean. I would stay again. The front desk was nice. Breakfast was okay. The basics, fruit and stuff.

Well Christmas day and we came to Bakersfield to have a feast with friends. And a feast and music fest it was. We stayed here and it was lovely. Easy location. Easy parking. Happy staff . Inviting lobby with fireplace.  Spacious room. Granite counter tops. Comfy bed. Oh so soft pillows. And lots of them.  Mmmmm. We slept well and are off on our way across the southwest again.

This rating is more for the service than the food. Arturo is a great bartender/waiter who's always in a great mood and makes traveling away from home pleasant.

He always has his own signature grilled peppers that he offers all his guests. Most of the time they're sweet, but sometimes they're hot. It's always a fun surprise.

Definitely the best hotel bar to visit in Bakersfield.

Stayed here for a night between sites for work. Compared to the other places I've encountered this hotel has been by far a breath of fresh air. I felt safe, it's clean and I had a much needed comfortable night of sleep. I'll be selecting this hotel as the one I return to for sure.
