HEARTLESS and UNCARING!!!!!!

Ok, this is NOT the place to lose your 5 year old's favorite stuffed animal!! My husband and I, along with our 5 yr old daughter were on our way to Disneyland and stopped by this hotel for the night.  Hotel was fine, but DO NOT forget anything in the hotel!  You will NEVER get it back, regardless how little in value it might be.  My poor daughter forgot her favorite stuffed animal in the bed, and upon noticing this a few hours after we left, I called the front desk, spoke with Daniel and Matt who informed me they never throw things away, but sadly the lost stuffed animal was not there.  My daughter was (and still is) heartbroken:(  The front desk staff and manager were unapologetic and not helpful, (they came back on the phone after only 1 minute of "looking", to inform me that it could not be located.  They refused to let me speak with the head of housekeeping to find out if she searched underneath the bed or if it maybe is still in their laundry room. When I asked to complain to their manager or file a complaint, I was told, "there are no more complaint cards"  (did they use them all up???)   If you love something and value it, please make sure you do not leave it in the hotel room by accident, this is the worst experience of my life.  I will never stay here again, I like Holiday INN's but will never stay at one again:(

We stayed here for a night last weekend on our way to LA. The hotel was just meh.  I preferred the motel we stayed at the Oregon / CA border much better.  This hotel was about the same price ($85) but was much older. We got a room on the fourth floor. The shower was a serious exfoliating experience. The bathroom light was a ghostly white.  My boyfriend who was a lower back problem hated the mattress. It was old and didn't give much in the way of support.

Stayed overnight while on a road trip. Staff was great both at check in and check out. After check-in, I pulled around and found a parking spot right next to the door, especially considering I got there late in the evening. Got up to the room and it had this weird smell. Wasn't necessarily a bad smell; more like a commercial cleaning fluid, but it didn't go away the entire stay. The hotel looks like it's starting to show it's age. Might be time for a renovation. I could hear the traffic on Hughes Lane and the people walking around in the room above me, but it wasn't so loud that it prevented me from sleeping.

The room was clean though. Love the free internet (as always), and the bathroom had a heat lamp, which is always a plus. The price ($99 incl. tax) was very reasonable, too. Couldn't check out the breakfast, as I had to leave too early.

We were in a car accident on the day before Christmas eve and decided to stay at the Holiday Inn Express because it was the closest hotel from the Mercedes dealership a few blocks away. My dad walked into the lobby a few minutes after 2 AM, and within 15 minutes, my family had a room, room keys, and code for the free wireless internet.

There is a courtesy computer next to the front desk with IE and a few other Microsoft applications, which is convenient if you travel sans laptop.

The Holiday Inn Express offers a complimentary continental breakfast in the morning with some hot foods in warming trays, cereal, yogurt, milk, juices, coffee and hot cinnamon buns.

Considering we were in around 2:30 and out by 9, Holiday Inn Express was definitely a lifesaver during our little crisis this Christmas.

BEWARE, ROACHES!

My husband and I stayed here because we were working in Bakersfield.
I am normally a huge fan of this hotel chain. Free breakfast, nice rooms, great price. Usually clean too!
This hotel doesn't have these charms. Everything looks fine up front, but when we walked into the room, there was a funky old cigarette smell, which makes me think that this is a really old hotel that they've renovated. But, we ignored that, and stayed in the room because it was the only king sized bed left.
Then, around midnight, I had to use the bathroom, and when I turned on the light,  there was a cockroach crawling over the sink. Knowing that there's usually more hidden, my husband and I packed up our bags and went to the front desk to try to get a room in another hotel. ( often, hotels will help each other out in case they overbook, and there were a few other Holiday Inns in the area. I've had them do this before, it's not unheard of. )
This didn't happen. The guy didn't even make any calls trying to help us out, he basically said there's nothing he could do . We had booked through Priceline, so the night manager said the only thing he could do was give us another room in the same hotel. Maybe other people would be cool with this, but if there's roaches in one room, I'm not staying in the building, and having them hitch a ride in my luggage back to my home.
So, we ended up leaving and driving 5 hours back home, and didn't get home till 6 the next morning, which ruined our work day. We did end up getting a refund through Priceline, but I would have preferred not having to drive all the way back home after a long day of work.  I RECOMMEND STAYING ELSEWHERE! IF I COULD GIVE THIS HOTEL A LOWER SCORE I WOULD.

I was in Bakersfield this past weekend for my old college roommate's wedding and my bf and I stayed at this Holiday Inn Express.  You know, I was pleasantly surprised.  I may have stayed in high end hotels for business, but I sure am happy with an affordable, clean hotel/motel rooms  when I'm traveling for personal.

We stayed here two nights and let me say, it was very clean.  The whole staff greeted us hello with smiling faces in the hallways even though I know English may be their second language.  There's a free continental breakfast from 630A to 930A, serving coffee (although not as strong as I'd like), tea, milk, juices, muffins, bagels, assorted breads, warmed cinnamon rolls...bacon and eggs...

Also Wireless internet as well as "wired" high speed internet is free - another brownie point for them.  Parking spaces were on the wider side so I wasn't afraid that my car will get dinged by the super duper big trucks parked around us.

Can I now recite pi to 100 decimal places?
Am I now able to divine the mysteries of quantum physics while simultaneously bowling a perfect game and brokering a lasting peace in the Middle East?

No, but I was able to safely finish driving home to San Diego after spending a night at this Holiday Inn Express.

Comfortable beds and chairs, satisfying breakfast bar in the mornings, and a reasonable price.  The shower heads are some of those fancy variable-stream ones that can give a gentle spray or a vigorous massage.   I was not the only one who was delighted by them -- I overheard another party commenting on them at breakfast and how they never wanted their shower to end, a sentiment shared by my wife.

The staff was helpful in answering some local questions, and the facilities were well-kept.

They even have a telephone in the bathroom, something I've never seen before in a hotel, ANYwhere.  My mind has to wonder just how practical that would be, or if it's purposely put there to create awkward situations:  "Hi, can you hang on just a minute?  I need to wipe."  Eww.

So why all the accolades and only 4 stars?  Because it's not exactly close to, well, anything.  Yeah, it's in Bakersfield, but it's in the nowhere part of Bakersfield.

And half of the rooms face towards some railroad tracks that are visited every night around 2 or 3 in the morning.

But it served my need for a clean place that had room for me, my wife, and my son.

Here for business and I'm trying to save the company money, so sigh couldn't stay at any of the Hilton hotels, which is my usual choice...I've stayed at Holiday Inn Expresses before and I gotta say, much better than they were 10-15 years ago. However, IF YOU VALUE SLEEP, KEEP READING.

LOCATION: I picked this hotel based on the rating details. I didn't  read any of the reviews though. As one reviewer mentioned, the railroad tracks...I don't think any room would escape hearing them at midnight and then again at 3AM. If you're a light sleeper, stay away from this hotel. It's off the beaten path as well. There was also a "mulchy doo-doo" odor in the hallways in the morning.

BREAKFAST: Free, which is always nice. Nice assortment of foods, from cereal to yogurt to bagels to pancakes to omelets. Now the cheese omelets they had today seemed really tough. Don't know if I just picked a bad one. Actually English muffin was a lil stale too. Coffee a little on the weak side, but I like it stronger than most, I suppose.

ROOMS: Comfortable, nice desk setting, ample room. TV worked but no sleep option. Free Wi-Fi! Water and cookies waiting for me when I walked in! A/C & heat unit.

BATHROOM: Clean, decent bath products, fan (yay!), telephone in case you need to make an emergency call with your deuce.

STAFF: Super awesome. Helpful. Friendly. I got a rate of $72 through one of the travel websites...

Probably won't stay here again since it's right by the tracks, and I wake up too easily...

As Kevin D. said...I was impressed as well! From the moment I walked into the lobby
the experience was good. Check-in was prompt and friendly, and overall there were good sentiments all around. Just off the 99 freeway, which makes it easy for those traveling, and open space, self, free parking...a big bonus! The lobby is nice, clean and cozy couches, for a bit of chit chat. Free apples and chilled water on center table, free breakfast that comes with price of room, free internet, fridge and microwave in room, pool/spa, easy to navigate around, good tasting coffee, nice bathroom, spacious bathroom counter, nice desk and table in room, warm water in shower, chilled A/C, friendly staff, and more! People complain too much, For the area and price it's very good! Just sit your butt down, enjoy, relax and be happy!

Wow! I was very impressed by this hotel! Maybe it's because when I travel for business I normally end-up staying in some less than stellar places but when I found myself in Bakersfield on a business trip for a day and a night and arrived I was immediatly impressed!

Pros:
Check-in was super-fast (under a minute). Granted I had a reservation but room keys were already programmed and ready to go, I barely had time to set-down my bag!
A/C Was on in the room which was nice since it was ~100 outside
Hotel seems to be under-going a renovation. I stayed on the 3rd floor in a room which looked like it had recently been re-done.
Great furnishings and the softest, most comfortable bed I've slept-in in a long time!
Large room and bathroom
Large parking lot, plenty of parking for even trailers in the very back
Parking lot seems secure, I drove a large work truck with a lot of gear in the back and nothing was missing.  Good lights too.
Curtains which block-out sunlight (mostly)

This last one was very important to me because I was working on a project in a nearby town at night which meant I would be sleeping, at least partly during the day. That wasn't a problem, in fact I almost over-slept because the room was so dark! Did I mention the most comfortable bed in the world was in my room?

Cons:
Near RR tracks. I never heard the trains though late in the afternoon I felt what I thought was a small earthquake, then realized it was a train going by. Not annoying to me but it needed to be noted to be fair.
Pool was out of service when I was there, though I wasn't planning on using it for my short stay.
Hotel is used by a lot of out-of-town contractors (hey, I resemble that remark!) so in the parking lot there are a lot of larger trucks (guilty, I drive an F-450). Spots are large though (my truck fit in one) and parking seems to be plentiful.
Not really walking distance to any restaurants that I could find. Had to drive to get dinner.
Doesn't appear to be in a good part of town.

I would stay here again and from now on will be on the look-out for other Holiday Inn Expresses when I travel!

Stayed here two nights for my nieces wedding. Desk staff is courteous and accomodating. We rented the Sequioa room to have drinks and pizza as everyone arrived. It has a nice big tv in there with plenty of chairs. and a sink, large garbage cans. Our rooms were nice and remodeled. Soft mattresses, microwave, fridge, flat tv. Bathroom was easy to easy knobs, faucets. The AC is really loud. I didnt have an issue with the loud train as some people wrote. I like that you have Dennys across the street, BK , a drugstores, liquor stores very close. The mall was only 2 miles aways as we needed a pair of shoes for my son, something for the wedding. I didn't eat the free breakfast but my kids brought some apples bananas and yogurt, cinnamon roll up for me. The radio playing on the ceilings everywhere is a bit too loud. I would recommend this to others. You cant beat $84.99 plus tax each night, for the amenities you get.

The free breakfast is delicious here, when they ran out they brought more out! Now we occupied like 4 rooms here and we all ate good! Biscuits n gravey! Pancakes! Sausages! Juices! Cereals! Coffee!  Hot coco! Milk! The best hotel around this area I think!

Rooms are modern and recently renovated, and free breakfast is served from 6:30-9:30am which was a nice plus. Glad that we happened upon this hotel! Easy in, easy out!

I'm in Bakersfield for work and wasn't expecting much when I booked my room at the Holiday Inn, and when I checked in I was blown away.  This place is awesome!!  The lobby and rooms are modern.  The beds are comfortable and the front desk staff was very friendly.  This place is a step above the everyday business traveler hotel with a modern look throughout.  Two thumbs up!  Thanks for a great night sleep.

This place was a stop over, we arrived about 3:30 AM for checking. The process was smooth Oscar at the front desk was friendly. It looks like they have done some renovation prior to older pictures for the rooms look updated; modern style, clean, the bed was kind of lumpy "downside", don't really care for the pillows at all. There's a microwave and fridge in your room so that's a plus if you need it. They have free breakfast which has a variety of options from cereal oatmeal to boiled eggs, hot eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausage and pastries with different types of juices, coffee and teas. Overall it's clean and decent I would stay here again if needed too.

All the rooms have been remodeled. Comfy bed and great TV. thats about all you can ask for... except the people here are very nice. I would definitely stay here the next time im in Bakersfield. The only reason I am holding back the 5th star is because its near train tracks. Other than 1 train blowing the horn at about 11pm or so it wasn't a big deal. I like this hotel and would recommend it to anyone.

This place gets a very solid four, maybe to the tune of 4.25 stars.  It doesn't get the full 5 star rating because of some things others have mentioned which I will reiterate.

I needed to stay north of Los Angeles so I could arrive in the city by 1 pm as my friend was going to get home from work early that day.  Thus, I decided on Bakersfield and also wanted to be fed in the morning.

I obtained a good price on a room at this hotel.  Moreover, this stay, with a bonus point offer, kicked out a new ticket on Air Canada's Aeroplan program.

The hotel is being refurbished and my room was very nice, with every creature comfort imaginable.  The staff is extremely courteous, efficient, and friendly.  The breakfast, for which the Express line of Holiday Inn (IHG) is known, is one of the better ones offered in hotels costing under $100 per night.  I really enjoyed my stay here.

The only demerit is that the White Lane exit and what surrounds it is hardly the high rent district of Bakersfield.  The hotel sort of sits alone south of White Lane, so the food options reachable on foot are fast food chains and a few  stand-alone Mexican restaurants which are probably good, but I wasn't feeling particularly adventurous since my head was already in L.A.

If one can get a good rate at this HIE and knows places in Bakersfield at which they want to eat, and drive to, I recommend this hotel.

I was impressed by the hotel at a glance. That quickly changed when I came to my room. Every stick of furniture, had a thick layer of dust!! I was so shocked by this but didn't complain. Later in the night as I played watching t.v. not 1 but 2 roaches appeared on the wall, then on the mirror!! Pissed does not even scratch the surface on the rage I felt. A common roach (s) crawling around on the wall. I've been calling the front desk....no answer. I will NEVER stay here again. This is just unacceptable for me. Now if you enjoy fighting off roaches (BTW I just killed roach #3) and dust filled rooms come on down! I'm sure you feel the hospitality!!!

A worthy stop for tired travelers.   A very usable business hotel.

I was checked in by the multi-tasking, efficient Claudia who told me yes, she's always busy, but loves her job.  Matt made sure my local connections got connected, and Michelle was always helpful, professionally friendly, and kind.

We've supposedly stayed here before, but I generally make sure I'm up well north  before I get a room.  I tried to Yelp* check in yesterday, saying it is a new property, since everything was so clean, fresh and nice, and I couldn't remember being here before. It has been here a long time, but is completely remodeled into a clean, fresh and nice property.

Electrical outlets abound in all the right places, there's a large desk and good internet, making this a good business/work location.  The alarm clock was set to the right time, there's a TV, micro and refrig, and the brand new door is fireproof steel.

Down the street La Perla Bakery offers a cornucopia of breads, pastires and coffee.  The table is outside.  Next door, La Paleteria Michoacana has an ice age of cold and frozen desserts, plus snacks.  North of them is Mariscos Puerto Vallarta, a mostly fish house, but also has many more usual Mexican meals.

Yes the train goes by.  But not much.  Peach Springs has trains.

Made reservations a few hours before checking in on the same night, which went very smoothly.

The hotel has been remodeled and, although there are still signs of an older building beneath the layers, like the old windows, everything in our room was up to date.

The the bathroom is beautiful and simple with a nice recycled glass counter top. The bar soap provided made my skin squeaky clean, literally. The tiles in the shower are a nice touch as well as the curved curtain rod. The bed was comfortable.

The next morning, a full breakfast bar was provided: cereals, pancake maker, B's & G's, scrambled eggs, juices, bagels, fruit, coffee, etc.

My only issues were that the soft/firm pillows were all soft and the carpet needs to be washed. Additionally, there should be a policy made clear to hotel guests to wear shoes when coming down to breakfast or any other reason. I can handle pajamas, but not wearing shoes is not only gross, but could pose a safety issue.

Evidently this hotel is not busy enough to keep two people on staff at a time. So when we arrived after a LONG day of driving, at 8:25PM on a Friday Night... There was no one at the front desk. Matt Freels, the front desk attendant, left a "will return" sign up and there were two people waiting to check in and someone with a flower delivery waiting for him to come back. Calling the front desk did not help find the person. Then when he came back, he argued with us that it was totally fine for him to leave because he was alone. We pointed out that the issue was it isn't okay for him to be alone when it impacts customer experience but he kept going back and forth citing that he has been doing this for TWO AND A HALF YEARS at this location. It is very unprofessional to have a hotel with a name brand at this level of functioning on a weekend and not very late at night. If they can't justify having multiple people on staff at a time (especially over two and a half years), then the hotel doesn't need to be open. The owner and managers of this establishment need to realize that when people book a brand name hotel, they except all hotels to be similar/the same level of service ESPECIALLY when that is part of the brand's pitch. This is a reflection of poor management and disrespect for what I used to think was a consistent brand. Absurd.

Only gets 2 stars because of recent renovations.
