Looking at numerous rave reviews from other sites, we decided to check out Knights Inn in hopes of finding a "diamond in the rough".  Based in the dirty lump of coal they call Bakersfield, I was hesitant. Nevertheless I was willing to overlook a few things since the total bill was only $30. To my surprise the room was very nice; clean bathroom, decent decor, minimal cigarette smell, etc.  And a flat screen TV is always nice. The bed was comfortable, and even the pillows were very welcoming my tired head.
At this point you're probably wondering, "2 stars?!?? It sounds like such a nice place!" Well, I was all grins until the next morning when I walked out to my car in the parking lot and found it had been broken into. Technically, they didn't get in, but assessing the damage to the passenger door I would have preferred they knock on my door and ask for the keys. The whole side of the door was ripped off and the metal looked like shredded cheese. I alerted the owner/manager (apparently they live at the motel too) of the situation and all he could do is just stand there with a blank look on his face, hoping I get into my car and out of his parking lot. Thats exactly what I did and exactly what you should do if you are in any way concerned about the integrity of your vehicle while parked in front of this establishment.

My husband and I stopped here for the night on a road trip. The price tag was pretty good ($45 for the night), but that was about it. The carpet was very worn and scuzzy looking (my husband wouldn't take off his shoes), the bed wasn't comfortable, and the towels were so scratchy I had red marks running up and down my body after I dried off. The air conditioner kept going on and off, but it did cool down the room (which was quite warm when we first checked in), so I give a star for that. Also the hotel is right next to a Starbucks which is nice. For the price and the very limited amount of time we stayed there, I'm not too upset about our stay. If you plan to spend more than one night or any amount of time in the room beyond sleeping, however, I'd look somewhere else.

Staying here on a stop off to the Bay Area. So far, so good. Nothing that I wasn't already expecting. Bed bugs usually stay dormant through the winter, so no worries there. Wouldn't say the room is flawless but again, didn't expect that when booking. For $50/night, can't really complain. Wifi is a little slow and the fridge and microwave were unplugged. Not sure if this is my room or a motel policy. Place looks pretty clean. Haven't run into any cockroaches or crackheads so far but in my experience, crackheads typically want a cigarette, a dollar, or to crack some jokes. Meth users can be a different story. I'm keeping my car windows rolled up and door locks, but you should be doing that at any motel.'

UPDATE #1 - So I'm chillin in my first floor room and suddenly I hear this crazy forceful stomping for practically an 1 hour straight. Super thin ceilings. I would have requested a 2nd floor room had I know. I complain to the manager and asked for a room on the 2nd floor. She says they have a motel policy to ask the noisy guest to remain more quiet despite my requests not to bother them. I later get a call from the front desk saying that they have requested the family of children to remain more quiet (now I feel like a jerk!). I have no idea other than the fact that they don't want to re-make my room, why they wouldn't just let me stay in a 2nd floor room.

UPDATE #2 - While I'm out front smoking a cigarette, I meet a Larry the Cable Guy type who tells me that he heard 3 gun shots out his window the previous night and "shot out of bed". The stomping upstairs stopped. Then I had to awkwardly watch the hotel manager point to me and tell two Moms, two boys and two girls about it while I was smoking another cigarette out front. How many times do you have to ask them to be quiet? I didn't even want you to ask once. But it's been quiet since, so, worked out for me pretty good. Place has been really quiet since 10pm. Solid 2 stars.

Enter at your own RISK!

I had to stay here for a weekend cause I had a pool tournament in Bakersfield and boy was it a horrifying adventure all on it's own! You definitely get a bang for your cheap buck!

The minute we get to the hotel, we run into our friend in the hallway who was also there for the tournament. First thing he tells us (which he later complains to the hotel manager the next night) is that he and his son already found a cockroach, something that looks like snot just smeared on the walls and blood splattered on the walls as well. You'd think that's the worst part of it, but no...it actually gets worse!

Another one of our friends staying in another room woke up that Saturday morning with large bed bug bites all over one of her legs and arms. And on top of that one of our friends got chased down by a crack head. My friend found tiny bugs in the bathroom tub right before she showered. All in all,the room just made me feel itchy cause it didn't feel clean at all. I kept showering with the water all the way on steaming hot just to feel semi close to clean like I killed everything off. It was disgusting! I lucked out for the most part since I got out of there unscathed and without any strange encounters with crackheads like my other friends.

The only upside to this place was that it had a huge flat screen TV, a mini fridge, a microwave, and even an ironing board! But honestly, even with those few perks, I would NOT recommend this place or want to come back regardless of how cheap it is. I later found out it's not as safe as out-of-towners would like to think because Bakersfield natives were telling us that we were on the side of town where most crackheads could be found wandering the streets. Oh how lovely Bakersfield is!

Ok so far. Clean room and decent price. Area isn't the best but we're ok I suppose for a nights stay. I pray no one breaks in my car based on the other reviews.

It served its purpose. It was a suitable place to crash for a few hours to break up a 12 hour drive. We got a cheap rate and, in turn, got a room to match.

The neighborhood was a bit rough, but we made it out alive lol Again with the nasty and gross looking carpets! Had to keep the socks on again. Otherwise it was okay. There was a microwave oven and fridge in the room, though we weren't there long enough to use either one..

The guy who checked us in was quiet, yet polite. The bed was reasonably comfortable and we left bright and early the next morning to get back on the road.

I just can't like it nearly enough to reccommend it to anyone I actually like or actively care about...sorry, but its..

2 stars

This is worth bringing to the attention of other Yellpers looking for a a decent, inexpensive place to stay in Bakersfield.
My room was clean and comfortable. Most of the furniture was fairly new. I had a nice flat screen TV. Plus it came with a refrigerator and a microwave. The Wifi worked fine.
Two complaints: The pillows were too thin. Even two pulled together were not enough. And I couldn't get straight cold water to come out of the bathroom sink for water to drink. It was always luke warm. The coldest water was the first blast out of the faucet after I turned it on.
But I would stay here again. And the price was right.
