Last night we met there for business. The experience was great. Service was attentive, kind, prompt. We had cocktails and appetizers. The sliders were hot, juicy, and delicious. Easy to eat. The Thai sticks, were not so impressive, the sauce was good. My group really enjoyed the hummus. Overall, the experience was fabulous. City life in Bako.

I have to say The Padre Hotel far exceeded my expectations. My boyfriend and I had no real purpose for visiting the area other than I saw this hotel on hotels.com and thought it looked cool. So we took the 5 hour trip down and were incredibly pleased. The staff from the front desk, to the bartenders were all amazing and friendly. The hotel is incredible with all modern amenities, artwork, and perfectly blended architectural details. We didn't need to leave the building because it had everything...food, drinks, entertainment, coffee shop in the morning and an awesome outdoor patio area complete with sculptural fire pit. Beautiful. We had great bartenders with Sam and Mike that kept us laughing and filling our glasses. I had a snack at the bar, shrimp quesadillas, which I highly recommend. This was definitely the happening spot in town and all ages were welcome. We were dressed fairly casually but the weekend locals, definitely viewed this as a pick up spot. Lots of hot, trendy folks. If you are anywhere near this area, you have to stay here. The room was amazing and had a dual sided, see through shower with all high end fixtures. Awesome! Got a great rate, had a great time and slept like a baby in the 40 winks room. I am usually pretty sensitive to neighbor noise and I didn't hear a thing! Loved this place and frankly, I'm usually too lazy to write reviews but I hope this place stays around for awhile.

We stayed here overnight based on a recommendation from a friend and were bowled over by the fact such a place exists in Bakersfield. Our room was well appointed and stylish -- much nicer than the $83 price tag -- and the staff was friendly and helpful. I hate overstuffed feathertop mattresses, so was a bit annoyed by this amenity that I'm sure most other people would appreciate. I have no idea when I'll next have an opportunity to stay here, but I definitely would come back.

Last night my wife and I decided to go out to the new Padre to see the historic hotel's grandiose make over. The New Padre's website makes this place out to be some young hip urban sprawl with full amenities and access to lounges, cafes, bars and dance floor. "You'll feel like you're not in Bakersfield." Bull!. Articles and TV blurbs have spotlighted the event coordinator and hotel manager who have talked on and on about how this place is going to be different than anything Bakersfield has had in the past. Attention all locals, It is not! This town already has a ton of spots that make its patrons feel equally unwelcome. The staff was lame, unfriendly snobs. No surprise. The party goers were the typical toss salad of posers. -I expected more I guess.  A more chill vibe with fewer attitudes. Overall it always comes down to music for me. How can a place boast on their website they have dj's "causing a frenzy" when they don't. The Padre dj's were playing the same tired top 40's hip hop every other club in town plays.  . Word from the wise..  If you're a guy, make sure you wear your dad's shiny leather shoes when you come here. They sell them at Macy's next to man whore perfume. Their shoe dress code is enforced, but not anything else. Wearing a beadazzled rhinestone muscle t-shirt is uniform of choice- But this is the crowd that this place appeals to. I had it my way, I would have denied this development company from going any further than just remodeling.  I'm sure Spartacus Miller is rolling in his grave. Roof top missiles locked on heartbreak. Good news, true Old school Padre Peeps can still grab a stool at the Silver fox where life is as it should be.

Took my family to have a nice meal thinking the place had a bit of class. Unfortunately they don't screen customers who come to the bar. A group seemed to have stumbled in from the nearest trailer park. Wife beaters, cut off cami shorts with hats on backwards dropping f'bombs every few seconds. I was not impressed.

I am giving it a 4 because your 3 rating states "it's OK" and that isn't a good leap between 3 and 4 rating-- I got in late after driving 13 hours from Santa Fe almost non stop except for gas-- I thought "I will stop anywhere but Bakersfield" as that was not appealing as I have driven through on the 1-5 hundreds of times North to South and it seems unappealing-- but my son booked it for me as I was on the road through hotwire--and so it would be unfair for me to rate 'price' as I only paid $100 for a great corner room on the 4th floor--very cozy king bed, great bathroom--shower head that really gives you a nice shower, fun-luxury room, EXCEPT--ladies beware if you ware any amount of make-up, as it is obvious that a man designed this hotel!! Lighting is lovely but NOT TO ACTUALLY SEE TO PUT ON MAKEUP! Even in the bedroom I had to take the shade off the night table lamp to look in the nearby mirror, but the light cast a shadow on it so just forget it-- Glad I was just going to be in my car today driving and didn't have appointments. The desk book--was falling apart and missing the menu's --I had to to call and then they brought up a bar menu and I was hungry being I hadn't eaten in 13 hours-- forget it--I was tired and just ordered a roasted artichoke... too salty, but good. The lobby is fun and exciting... almost thought I was in LA... and if I was 30 and not 57 I would have loved it--but I was tired and the noise drove me to my room--which was fine as that is what i wanted. If you are in your mid 20's-30's early 40's you will love the action--(or those that like to pretend they still are :) ) I couldn't open the windows--which drives me crazy as I sleep with no heat (even if it is freezing) and open a window for fresh air--impossible. So I never really feel refreshed when I sleep in recycled air or shut windows- I went down at 7 (still on Santa Fe time) for a nice breakfast as my dinner was lacking... and not a comfortable place to eat and relax-- hard chairs, or benches that pitch back (old church benches) that makes it hard to eat comfortably--the sofa is where I ended up writing this--holding my plate while eating... the other section doesn't open until 10:00 -- The associates that work here are very kind--so 4 stars to the staff-- except the one that brought me a bar menu when I found out later I could have selected from 2 others!! So I am glad I was on the 4th floor as I didn't hear the night clubing downstairs... SO YOU 20-30'S GO HAVE FUN-- :) And if none of those things matter to you--GREAT PLACE

We went there for what we hoped would be a really nice dinner.  When we pulled up out front, the valet was too busy talking to a YL to pay any attention to us.  A second valet finally came up, but did not open the passenger side door, which was the side he approached on, to let me out.  We had a drink and nachos at at the Brewhouse first, and the best part of the experience.  The bar was busy and very noisy, the service was good and the nachos were right on.  Love the detail in the metal work in the ceiling.  Sadly our experience went downhill from there.  We went to the dining room for dinner.  The best part was the service and it was spot-on, but the food (which I was told came out of the same kitchen as the bar, was not good.  The Lobster/Crab Bisque had old crab in it and a fishy smell.  We sent it back.  I had the halibut and my husband had the Osso Buco, both were very dry, the halibut had no flavor and the Osso Buco needed the sauce to be able to eat it, although the vegtables were good.  If you go to thre Padre to eat - stay in the Brewhouse, the burgers looked really good.  Oh, when we left, the valet did not open the door for me although he was standing right by it.

My bias:  Not exactly a Bakersfield fan, except for Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, and this was a work trip on a Sunday night covered by my employer.  I have been coming to Bakersfield and nearby Central Valley spots for about twenty years, but I had not known about the Padre.  The hotel is nicely decorated, close to the 99 highway.   I assume it is a recent remodel of an old era grand hotel, a pretty good stab at elegance in my price zone.   I'd say the place was understaffed a bit (at least late at night when I returned to the hotel), but the staff were very friendly and helpful.  I was won over immediately by the translucent yellow onyx counter at registration- I just happen to like that stone when lit from below.   The immediate neighborhood is not pleasant for walking at night, at least where I walked, but it is Bakersfield, so spring for the valet parking.   The room was clean and pleasantly decorated, everything worked the way it should, and I will likely stay here in the future when visiting the area.  I had dinner at the restaurant located off the lobby, not cheap but the food was well prepared and tasty, dessert pretty enough for me to photograph and email, wait staff friendly and efficient.  Even makes me think positively of Bakersfield.

I took an associate to the Brimstone at the Padre for her birthday. We take a late lunch 1:30 ish and the place was almost deserted on a Friday. Good service and great food, I had a Prime Rib sandwhich, it melted in your mouth, My friend had a Turkey sandwhich and seemed to enjoy it. After lunch we took a tour of the other resuraunts and the outdoor area on the second floor roof, Would be great for evenings in the spring and fall, summer is to hot. My barber shop had his shop in the hotel for 15+ years so I saw it as it was and then watched it forever to take shape  in the splender as it is today. A lot of attention to deatils. My barbers shop was there till 6 monthes before he passed away at 84 years young, he didn't get to see it finished.

Went there couple of times for lunch.  Great burgers!  Love the old 1930s era atmosphere.  I wanna come back to see the club. Once I misplaced my credit card there but the staff kept it and quickly gave it back!

Ate a late lunch at Brimstone at the Padre Hotel. A burger with blue cheese, bacon and avacado and a bloody Mary for $12? Yes! And it was darn good and the service was friendly, attentive and professional. Also had the fried pot stiker appetizer and the peach cobbler for dessert, everything was quite tasty and presented nicely. Will be back.

I recently visited the Belvedere for the first time to celebrate a special occasion.  I was thrilled when the Padre reopened and must say that the atmosphere is exceptional.  The food, however, was a disaster.

We ordered the seared scallops as an appetizer.  When they arrived we immediately smelled something fishy - the scallops were rancid.  After a small bite, we chose not to finish them and the waitress took them away without question as to whether they may have been a problem.  The squash soup was adequate - can't tell you how the salad was as it never arrived.  My companion's prime rib special was a grocery store quality piece of beef and my pasta bolognese was relatively flavorless.  I'd take Luigi's pasta any day!

Our waitress was friendly enough but fairly uninterested in our table and relied on bumbling busboys who rarely refilled glasses.  Bottom line, go to the Padre for a cocktail and save your money to eat some place that has figured out how to hire a quality chef and staff.

I visited the Padre Hotel for a wedding reception. Our event was on the second floor in an L-shaped room. The staff was quite nice, although strangely did not serve diet coke along with the other soft drinks. The food was above average and building itself stunning.

This review is for only for Belevedere inside the Padre Hotel.

Atmosphere was formal and very nice. Ellegance on the ground floor of the Historic hotel. We were with our Bakersfield friends, who wanted to try the restaurant again.

We brought our own wine, and were told ahead of time there was a $20 corkage fee. The next day a food critic in Bakersfield had a article about the restaurant stating it was a Wine Lover's experience since they DO NOT CHARGE FOR CORKAGE! Somebody messed this up, and our friends in Bakersfield are trying to get to the bttom of this.

We had a 3 appertIsers for the 4 of us, and are we glad we decided on 2 orders of the scallops. The scallops were very good but outrageously prices at $12 for only 2 scallops per plate.

In any case, overall we thought the food was excellant, and the Osso Bucco was great; one of the best we have ever had. Very favorful and tender.

The waitess was on top of her game; however, there were several other hosts/hostees that did not provide very good service with regar to the clearing finsihed plates & glasses nor keeping water glasses full.

Also, we shared the entre and they did not split the order in the kitchen but made us do it at the table. Not very accomodating for a formal restaurant with high prices.

This restaurant is very good; however, we felt that the service was lacking and the prices were higher than they should be for Bakersfield.

Thus, my rating is as follows: Service: 1 star; Needs significant improvement; Food: 5 Stars; Outstanding.; Overall: 3 stars: okay. Reminder: It doesn't mater how good the food if the service is not good, we don't go back unless we hear that there has been great strides to improve overll service.

I've made the transition from hotel guest to hotel bar patron and the latter experience left even more to be desired.  Once again, the elevator situation totally broke the evening.  My friends and I began our night on the rooftop patio but when we couldn't find a seat, we went back downstairs.  When we tried to get back up to close our tab, the line for the elevators was insanely long.  My friend waited AN HOUR in that line just to get up the 2 stories to the patio.  My other friends and I tried to get up the stairs instead but were stopped by a guard just as we reached the 2nd floor.  You can't make people wait that long to get up and close a tab.  If they need to enforce maximum occupancy, fine but please please please don't send people cycling through the building just trying to pay, sit, or find a drink.

Stayed at what was supposed to be an upscale hotel.

There is no place to enjoy a fine cigar and a scotch at the Padre even though they have an outside bar.

Smoke out front, leave your drink inside.

Had to go to a cigar bar down the street.

came up to visit a friend for the weekend.  i try to avoid chain hotels when possible...online the Padre looked great.  checked in to a "maverick" room.  the room was really nice, but there was a banging sound coming from above my bathroom.  i informed the front desk, and they told me they were aware of the problem and that maintenance would fix it momentarily.  90 mins later, the sound was still there, so i went to the front desk again and they were very apologetic.  i asked if i could move to another room.  the representative told me they would be happy to accommodate me and that the only available room was the "oil baron suite".  she apologized again for the inconvenience and gave me my new key card.

the oil baron suite was great.  it has a weird layout in that the whirlpool and the double shower are actually part of the bedroom, but i love it.  too bad i only know one person in Bako, or i'd have hired a dj for my room and had a penthouse oil baron/tycoon bottles and models double shower jammy jam!!

will definitely stay here again...even if i have to stay in a "normal" room.

Stayed there on a Saturday nite after attending a work related function. The lobby was packed with partiers and the music was loud. The room was very nice and the bed was comfortable as it had a temperpedic mattress. Glass shower was interesting. Only thing is the music could be heard on 3rd floor so if you are staying there, get a higher floor room. When in Bakersfield, I would definitely stay there again.

Considering it's Bakersfield I was surprised that this hotel was located here.  The hotel just recently went through a remodel and it's new and modern.  The rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable.  Service was spectacular and they resolved all my problems accordingly.  I would stay here again and would recommend this hotel to anyone who is heading to Bakersfield.  Also at night apparently this is the hotel to be at.

The best spot to go on Friday or Saturday night. Good ratio of guys to girls. Attractive women in there. A little busy, so it's hard to find a place to sit, but that is OK. Great place for 2 girls or 2 guys to go out and mingle. Pretty classy.

We came here yet again at the end of my birthday celebration. I was wearing a sticker that said "Spank me, it's my birthday." A self-proclaimed cougar (she was more of a GILF, minus the "ILF" part) totally molested me from the back, but I was drunk so laughing my ass off. Long story short, my buddy almost went home with her and her friend thinking he was the man, one of the girls in our group didn't let that happen. He hasn't forgiven us since. Good times, good times!

The appetizers are good.  They don't have a very full dinner menu in the bar, so I've just made a few appetizers into dinner.  The fried calamari were plentiful and good, the ceviche was decent, and the tomato mozzarella salad was pretty tasty.

The place is LOUD, not too good for having a drink and conversing, and I found out the hard way that one is best off ordering beers or shots.  The bartenders tend to be very young, and apparently very inexperienced and not very knowledgeable.

The lack of experience is one of the biggest achilles' heels of places like this, that strive for an "upscale" feel but cater to a younger crowd that typically orders beers, shots and whatever's fashionable.  The crowd is less a sophisticated set of drinker than the prices seem to merit, being something of a loud, brash young crowd, thus the bartenders don't gain experience making drinks with more than a couple of ingredients, and when they try, they don't know the nuances of what makes the drinks come out as they should.

As I write this review, I'm still fuming with rage regarding The Padre Hotel.
I went for a business trip to Bakersfield and my company put me in The Padre Hotel for 2 nights... And today is actually my second night.
Everytime I go for a business trip for 2 days, I always put a sign for "DO NOT DISTURB"
I did that this morning and I did double check the sign because it was two sided...

To my surprise, somebody went in and cleaned my room, what's worst, they put all of my dirty clothes in my luggage and it seemed to me that they also go through my luggage.
My phone charger that I placed on the table connected to the plug was unplugged and the cord was wrapped around the charger...
My new laptop that was not password protected yet was on the other side of the bed...
I almost got a heart attack because I have some sensitive information in my laptop...
But I did have the manager's phone number (Drew Hall) just in case I have to call my lawyer regarding invasion of privacy and confidentiality information...
One word to you, just beware when you go to Bakersfield do not stay at the Padre or you'll be sorry...

I can't even do anything, as of right now... I am waiting for my clothes to be launder because I don't know what the other person did to my clothes...

As of for the service... It's horrible, you need valet park your car for $8. If you have to go back and forth it's not convenient...
Moreover, I just found out that the Padre was located in not such a good area of the downtown... yes, you can get mugged if you go around the place at night.
I stayed on the 5th floor... It's horrible I can hear the music playing from the lounge underneath... SO LOUD...
The restroom didn't show any sign of decency... you have a glass shower where it's closed by a curtain... For GOD sake... what happened if they put people in a double room occupancy or let's say you're travelling w/ your friend to save some money...
YES... I don't want to see my friend naked in the shower... well unless if she's a really hot chick...
The valet suck big time, please do not open my car door until I open the door myself... and please for Pete's sake... do not stay and stare at me as I clean my car from some of the rubble...
And pls folks, if you think my car is a rubble itself... it's not... it's a 535i...

    ANYWAY...

I don't personally care how nice is the hotel, if the service is not reliable and the hotel can't guard their guest privacy... It's a big No No
And please do not touch my underwear... leave my luggage alone...

    YOU'VE BEEN WARNED...

    Thank you Yelp!

    Shockingly nice.

Our family needed a place to stop on a leisurely drive from San Francisco to San Diego.  We fired up the iPhone and came across this place.  It is a lovely historic hotel that has been recently renovated to very high standards.

Our room is as nice as the Intercontinental in S.F. where we recently spent a night, but at 1/4 the price ($89).  Add in free WiFi, valet parking that was only $8 and an excellent restaurant (a meal I would have considered very good in S.F., friendly service and tolerant of our kids and fleece, despite it clearly being the see-and-be-seen spot in Bakersfield) -- and you've got yourself a pretty good spot for a layover or a homebase for your stay in Bakersfield.

I find myself in Bakersfield once per year for business and just last year I found this place. It  was around $100 per night and worth every penny. The room was a little small but it was awesome! The wall between the shower and the bedroom was glass-so neat! Don't worry, a privacy curtain is provided for those times you don't want your other room occupant to see all the bathroom goings on. Really loved the room - design, it was"cowboy classy"- and yeah, I just made that up. OH and the room service was the best I've ever had, and I do love ordering room service- My favorite was their chocolate chip pancakes.

This rating is based on the following criteria:  Compared to other hotels available in the area, this is as good as it gets. Value wize, the rooms are priced reasonably and you get everthing you need, rooms, amenities, restaurant and bar downstairs, good service.  The rooms are recently refurbished, maybe two years ago. The walkin shower,  black floor tiles spaciousness all are good.  There were plenty of convenient outlets for charging my electronics and a flat screen tv mounted on the wall in front of the bed. And of course, the all importand wifi! There was free wifi and they remembered to give the password at checkin. So, what are the shortcomings? The neighborhood is "improving" which is to say it is not yet fully improved, and tends to be a bit vacant at night.  And street parking is hard because there is no parking overnight. But I did find the valet parkers to be proficient and friendly

Who knew there was some hip-urban life and style in Bakersfield?  We found this place online because were traveling across the state and needed a decent place to stay.  It lived up to the reviews - the decor is hip and stylish.  The bathroom was nice and spacious.  Staff was very friendly and the rates are very reasonable.  Ask for the AAA discount.  Added bonus:  nice breakfast for $7.  Would definitely come back.

The road from San Francisco to Las Vegas is long and lacking in great places to stop. Authentic local spots, other than the Westley Hotel and Merced's Branding Iron, have long been shuttered and forgotten. Subways, MacDonalds and Taco Pukes abound...then you arrive at THE PADRE. A Cowboy Modern renovation of a landmark hotel, the food is great, the whiskey is top notch, the world class Graham Downes design is both unexpected and welcoming. Bless you, Padre Hotel.

It was a run-down hotel with a lot of interesting history under Milt Spartacus who ran a dive. He fought the Bakersfield City Council's attempt at regulating his hotel many years ago. I don't remember who he bought the hotel from.

Anyway, now that I'm in Irvine, I miss hanging out at the Farmacy Cafe. I enjoyed the free wifi, the big breakfasts, the coffee drinks and seeing familiar faces who worked there and frequented the hotel.

It's quite open, airy, and a respite from all the darkness that permeates many of the city's downtown locales.

While, I'm not a fan of the cowboy theme renovations, it's still a great place. I thought a Hollywood theme would have been more appropriate and historic, celebrating the building's early clientele.

I haven't stayed in any of the rooms, but have heard good things. I know if I were traveling through town and needed a hotel, the Padre Hotel is where I would stay. There's personality to the place.

Oh,  if you meet Sean Williams serving you in the bar, tell him I sent you.

The Padre has a wonderful variety of places to eat, each with their own unique features and menus. The Belvadeare is arguably the finest dining in town, while the bar offers a sporty feel and great place to relax after work. The second level bar is my favorite spot to enjoy the evening and the only rooftop view downtown. Staying the night or nearby? Their coffee shop makes an excellent breakfast.

LOVED this place. People laughed at me when I told them we were going to stop in Bakersfield overnight on our way to San Diego, but I had heard good things about this place. It did not disappoint. When we arrived at 11 Friday night, the place was hoppin, which was a bit intimidating since we had our almost-3-year-old in tow who very much needed to go to bed. But I asked to be put in a quiet room and they were great -- we got a very, very quiet room with a portable crib set up for my daughter with - wait for it -- fluffy bedding. So sweet. The beds were insanely comfortable, despite my down feather allergy. The breakfast place, called the Farmacy, was super charming, despite the employee clearly on his first day of work. The touches on the decor were so, so charming. We loved this place and will stay here again!

I recently stayed at the Padre for the first time, after visiting Bakersfield for many years and staying at other hotels. I was pleasantly surprised at the renovations - the room felt like something out of a big city.

The room was clean, neat, modern decor, great bath amenities (H2O brand), huge flat screen, bed that I swear was Tempurpedic (or however one spells that), and great linens, really high ceiling, and nice view from the 8th floor.  It was not a huge room (the standard size), but the ceilings and an unusual shower arrangement made it seem larger. The shower is glassed on two sides - so you can basically see through it in the middle of the room - and pull a curtain for privacy.  It was also really quiet.

I had two appetizers and two drinks at Brimstone downstairs - loved the artichoke hummus, did NOT like the "thai sticks", which were like little egg rolls stuffed only with bland pork with a "dip" that could have been staight out of the peanut butter jar. Had an orange cosmo - good, and a mojito - not authentic, but still tasty - and Thursday nights is $5 drink specials, which was a great deal.

Had breakfast at the "Farmecy" downstairs, and for $6 had hash browns, eggs, toast and bacon. It was pretty good, and cheaper than hotel breakfasts at other places.

Warning that overnight guests pay $8 for valet parking that they put in the covered structure around the corner. I'm not a local so don't know if you could do better on your own looking for street or garage parking.

Overall, I liked the place and plan to stay there again.

    1) HOTEL: I give the Padre * * * * * stars comparing it to other local hotels in Bakersfield NOT comparing it to other 5 star hotel elsewhere. 2) I give * * stars to the patrons who drastically need make overs: bump-its and bleach blonde hair with black low-lights ARE BAD PEOPLE especially combined with an overt and overdone orange spray tan--this includes you, bros.

    3) NOISE: The MGMT needs to figure out a way to cordon off the window rattling vegas tunes from ruining patrons' appetites while eating at the Belvedere. Note: We stayed on the 4th floor and found the bedroom to be very quiet.

    4) I give the chef at the Belvedere * * * * * for our dinner. Apparently he's Hawaiian which became obvious as we perused the asian fusion menu. We ordered the poke appetizer which was to die for and only $15!!! I couldn't f-in believe it. The meat was so fresh and delish! I had two cocktails that were super strong and reasonably priced for top shelf vodka. My main course of seared tuna with mushrooms was also noteworthy. My fiance's t-bone was equally as tasty and perfectly cooked.

    5) ROOM DECOR & AMENITIES: Parts of the hotel decor are garish while others are sleek and pretty. My feather king sized bed was super cozy. The pillows were nice and fluffy. As others mentioned there is a shower with a glass wall facing the bed which includes a privacy curtain. That didn't bother me in the slightest. The soap smelled nice and the towels were thick and soft.

Overall, I was really impressed with the vision the owners are trying to achieve. Also, I really thought the coffee person, Sean, was super friendly and made a strong cup of Joe. They take AAA which isn't posted on their website.

My daughter and I stayed at The Padre for one night in July 2011. It was a good value for the money (bid $55 over at Priceline for the room and the bid was accepted). Although we recommend this hotel to travelers, there are a few things that we would've liked to change.

PROS: Easy to check in, friendly valet, unusual and beautiful interior design, flat screen TV, super comfy bed.

CONS: The check out time is not listed anywhere (usually this is listed on the back of the door), and I was afraid we wouldn't wake up in time to check out! Why was it such a secret?! I knew there must be room service since I saw a tray with food on it outside of someone's door, but there was no mention of the Hotel's offering room service and no menu available in our room, so that was mysterious. The weirdest thing was the bathroom! It had a glass window along the side which faced out to the rest of the room, and there was only a filmy, gauzy, white curtain that could be pulled to the side FROM THE OUTSIDE, so you could easily be spied upon by your roommates. WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS?! Even with the curtain drawn, my daughter said she could still see me through the curtain, and that she was scarred for life! Ha. The biggest complaint was the lighting within the room. It was sooo subdued, and I had to get a flashlight out to put on my makeup in the morning. I'm sure they're going for "modern and classy," but it was annoying. Oh, and there were no directions on how to use the temperature control unit, either. I monkeyed around with that thing forEVER and we still seemed to be either too hot or too cold. There is a nightclub downstairs that is VERY loud and kept us up with it's thumping music until the early morning hours.

I checked out of the hotel this morning.  I had a lovely evening.  Great dinner at the Belvedere last night - cold beers on the patio with belly dancers and Pocketfull of Music bringing their cool jams out despite the debilitating heat.  My only complaints are that it is a rennovated old building.  So, the overwhelming heat was not being completely tackled by the AC efforts and the AC unit in my room was a little noisy.  The elevators were having difficulty and at least one of the two was under repair so I made the walk up and down 8 floors a couple of times but that was probably good for me in the long run.  The staff were all super friendly and helpful and the room was clean and comfortable and quiet (other than the AC).  I will absolutely stay here again when I am on business in Bakersfield.  Very good addition to the community and walking distance from the Court.

The helpful staff comped our valet parking and gave us free breakfast vouchers after our dinner waitress (at the Belvedere Room) mistakenly told us that the hotel rooms do not come equipped with refrigerators and threw away almost an entire $50 steak my boyfriend couldn't finish. And yes, the room DID come with a fridge.  I love the Padre, and find after moving to LA, that it's one of few places in Bakersfield I enjoy spending time when I come back to visit.  Maybe I'm biased because I used to work there, but I ALWAYS have a great time, the decor is fantastic, the food is amazing, and there are 3 venues at night to give you plenty of variety!

I traveled to Bakersfield to attend a funeral. The Padre's excellent customer service made my time spent  at the hotel comforting. I plan to stay there again when I return to Bakersfield. I drove 4hrs south and was able to get an early check in. I also enjoyed the nightlife after returning from a long day. The decor is beautiful, compliments to the designer for exquisite taste. Also the late night snack was nice and fresh and the service was prompt.
The Padre is definitely "Summer Hit"...a treasure in Bakersfield.

There isn't anything better in Bakersfield. I have been coming to Bako for work regularly and don't feel comfortable staying anywhere else. I stay at hotels all the time and am very impressed with what they offer. They use high thread count linens and nice towels. Their amenities are H20 which is a good brand. You can get coffee and pastries in the morning at their cute cafe, grab a burger for lunch or have dinner and drinks on their rooftop lounge. If you are driving up from LA for a night or weekend, you won't regret staying here.

Wow.. I am so ashamed that us Bakersfielders consider this a nice hotel.
I have tried this place three times and have been completely floored by the lack of knowledge by the bartenders. I have ordered and "Old fashioned" twice and the have no idea how to make it AT ALL. After walking the bartender through it she filled it up with soda water completely bruising it! I was shocked by what she had just done and she was looking at me like I was  an idiot. I was still trying to be polite by my friend just looked at her and said "wow... I cant believe you just did that." After this I waited for the bartender for 18 minutes just to order another drink. After realizing she was just going to ignore me and my friend I had to get up and walk to her to ask her for the check. She looked at me as if it was so rude for me to interrupt her gossip (About her friends boyfriend which she seemed to want everybody to know about since she was talking about it so loud and stressing us all out.) and then rolled her eyes when I told her she had bruised the drink to much to enjoy. The price for this old fashioned was about twice then another nice hotel and the customer service breaks my heart. I was so looking foreword to giving this place a great review but after being there 3 times now and being treated so poorly every single time and seeing how they just seem to get by on being good looking and wearing see through spandex with no underwear. Sadly enough, this does nothing for me. I like to be treated well and also like kind servers who know how to treat costumers. I am so sorry to the owner of  "The Padre Hotel" I see much money and time went into this very lovely and beautiful establishment, but your bartenders are going to destroy it. And remember, no matter how good your food may be, or how nice your rooms are, with bad customer service, everything tastes sour.

P.S. after calling to get the bartenders name, they refused to give it to me. So if you get a cute little bartender with blond hair and blue eyes and no taller then 5'5" just don't even bother..

My bf and I decided to eat lunch at the Belvedere room for Easter Sunday. We were not to impressed. The hotel is very nice and elegant. The presentation and the freshness of the buffet was not there for us. So we just decided to order tea and wait for the kitchen to open up. The menu from the cafe really lacks good food. It consisted of very typical dishes you could order anywhere else in Bakersfield. So we stuck to tea. We ordered the herbal tea first. It was so bad i had them send it back. I don't know where they buy their tea but they should stop. Buy local. We replaced the herbal tea with green tea. It was still pretty bad. We added a splenda, gulped it down and left. I will come back another day and try the food.

Wow - Take the Viceroy, The W, and throw in some cowboy chic - and viola!   You have The Padre!  We were very surprised on how great this hotel was.  A group of us had to come to Bakersfield for work for a few days and we were expecting to stay in a"motel."  Our work travel website recommending this hotel.  I viewed the hotel's website and thought maybe it was over promising - was I wrong!  Beds are comfy, staff is friendly - only loses a star because the stop serving food too early.   It would be OK if there were places close by to eat - but there aren't.

so this is a review on the lobby bar downstairs.  not the hotel.

i will say one positive thing.  i absolutely loved the co-ed-ish design of the bathrooms. and i really loved the little flamenco dancer on the ladies door.  too cute.

oh and i also loved the chairs.  i love high backs chairs, it reminded me of this cute little lounge in chicago called "the violet hour."  the chairs have a total alice in wonderland vibe, like you bit the wrong crumpet and shrank!

so why the 2 stars, because of the bitchy ass bartender.  talk about ruining a night.  i could understand the rude-ness if i was at some pretentious hollywood club but i was not.  i was in bakersfield.

here is a reenactment of the night:

miguel (my friend):  can i get a buttery nipple?

bartender goes to make that.  miguel decides he wants a second one, to avoid having to get up again.

miguel:  oh can i can't get a second one?

bartender goes to make the second one.  i then decide that i want to take a shot too.

miguel (in an apologetic tone):  can we actually get one more?

bartender: are you serious?  (in extremely bitchy tone, imagine with a wtf-are-you-thinking face too.)

miguel and i:  of course we are serious!!

note to bartender:  you are a a bartender.  this is your job.  if you do not like making multiple drinks, then maybe you should consider a new line of work.  also it was shots.  all you had to do was pour.  you didn't need a shaker, or ice, or tricks like tom cruise, so seriously no need for the bitchiness.

also if it was way too busy, and you were overwhelmed, then you need to take your bitchy ass attitude to your manager and tell him you need more help on busy saturdays.  that or get your act together and start doing your job so you can actually get tips.

This hotel is wonderful.  It was remodeled in 2010 and the rooms are beautiful, the bathrooms large, bed in extremely comfortable, flat screen TV.  The decor is blacks, white, and greys and I loved it.  The service was pleasant too.  They have a restaurant, bar, and deli on site.  The only negative is that you have to valet park and its $10.  They put it on your bill so make sure you don't tip the same.

    I loved this hotel!!

My husband and I stayed here for a friend's wedding last weekend. Our other friend and her husband liked it so much they stayed at the hotel instead of a friend's house.

The decor was beautiful, the staff were friendly, and it was very conveninetly located. The bar and grill downstairs seemed reasonable, and they had a pretty good wine selection. And valet was only $8?! Are you kidding me? I've never seen hotel parking that cheap.

Next time we go back to Bfield this hotel is the only place I'm staying at.

Dated infrastructure with a face lift. Big room, high ceiling, good bed, decent shower. No extra TP, no room service menu (or room service) no iron in room, few towels.  Ample yet indifferent staff. With a bit more attention to detail this would be an oasis in the Bako desert.

This is a really nice hotel but the management is pathetic.  They just do not get customer service.  They denied me room service from The Belvedere Restaurant because they were all wrapped up in New Years Eve, I tried to order at 6 pm, hardly a guest was in the lobby by then, the manager on duty told me all the "food was sold out" that evening.  At 4 pm I went to the bar and they told me I couldn't get a drink because they were getting ready for the night.  Finally someone said it was OK to give me a drink but I had to take it up to my room!  Can I say this is a much nicer hotel than the Hampton Inn but the customer service really stinks!

We went to Bakersfield for a pool tournement this weekend. I waited to long to get our normal hotel and the Padre Hotel was just about the only thing available.

We paid $150 per night for a room with double beds. Not queen, full beds. From the outside we weren't to sure. Once onside it wad really nice. Service was outstanding as far as valet and bell hop service.

If you want a quiet place yo sleep this is not the hotel for you. When we came j  around 10 at night, there were way too many peole in the lobby waiting for the various restusrants and club and they just stand there with no respect for paying customers of the hotel. When you get to your room all you van hear is the bass from the club downstairs. You also hear the sirens all night long from the street.

Once again of you want a quiet place to sleep this is not the place for you. No privacy at all. Won't be back here again.

One thought is, "What the heck am I doing in Bakersfield?" That may very well be the same question you may ask yourself. Well, if you do end up in Bakersfield and you are compelled to stay at the Padre Hotel, make sure it is for the right reasons.

The hotel was recently remodeled with modern accents you would find in your upscale hotels. I would compare the experience to staying at a W, with the night club and restaurant, but "Bakersfield Style." Within the hotel is a bar, with an outside bar, the Belvedere restaurant which serves some excellent dishes, a sports bar, and coffee shop. I had dinner at the Belvedere restaurant and breakfast at the coffee shop. The Belvedere restaurant has a nice decor and ambiance, but the food is so-so, when you consider the price and the flare they're going for. The customer service, however, is severely lacking. When it comes to front desk accommodations and room service, don't even bother.

I've been stayed at the Padre several times now. I've logged over 12 stays in the past two years. It may not seem like much for the business traveler, but this is Bakersfield and I go there for leisure. With that, it is a lot of stays.

After this last stay, I will no longer be staying here. The customer service, or lack thereof, has gotten to be quite offensive. Clearly, customer loyalty is not something that matters to them.

If you are going to Bakersfield to party, since it is such a party town, and you plan to party until after 1:30 AM, then this place is for you. When you go through the reviews, please consider who are reviewing the bars and who are reviewing their stay.

If you are a mature adult and base your enjoyment on customer service, you're likely to receive better service at the Best Western. Here is the reason why. There is a functional problem with the Padre. There is a nightclub and outdoor bar. All of the inside rooms overlook the bar. The nightclub has the tendency of playing loud house music with a lot of bass. The music and noise will go on until 1:30 AM. This makes it difficult for me to sleep.

Ahhh, the solution, get an outward facing room on a higher floor. If you're victim to the noise and kept up most of the night, the hotel manager will apologize, hand you a business card, and tell you the next time you stay, to call them to specify your preferences. Our preferences will be noted. That happened the first and second time that we had the problem with the noise.

The third time, they told us that we have to check in earlier so that they have more room options. This was the kicker. The third time, we called and they told us what room we would be assigned. We even arrived early to make sure. They then told us we were NOT going to get the room that was promised to us and that we would be assigned a comparable room. AGAIN, they gave us the room number, but indicated the room was not yet available since it was still being cleaned. We were told as soon as the room was available, they would check us in. They even invited us to checkin our luggage and that they would take our luggage up to our room when it was available. We then left, spent most of the day and went to dinner with our friends, whom we were visiting, and returned later in the evening.

When we returned, we found that our luggage was not only not taken up to our room, but that they moved us AGAIN!, to the 4th floor (the bar is on the third floor). The room that they moved us to, was their smallest room! We could end the story there, but no. When we expressed our frustration, the person tried to give me her card and said something along the line of, "the next time you stay with us, give us a call and we will make sure we address your preferences." I explained all of the steps that we ALREADY followed.

She then told us the person that originally helped us was FIRED! I don't believe the story. Nevertheless, that person that was supposedly fired, did everything this person promised she would be doing. Enough said.

Awesome! They managed multiple gatherings with finesse. I was in the bar and lobby, didn't rent a room here. I found staff to be helpful and friendly, and the drink prices are quite reasonable. The remodel is incredible, it's just beautiful. Bakersfield needed a boutique hotel and the Padre fits the bill. It's a great place to hang out. Only drawback is the noise, the bar needs to turn down the music when the place starts to fill up. If I'm back in Bako I'll definitely head back, and would like to try the food here. I really enjoyed the wink and nods to Bako's agricultural routes, like the wallpaper with a pitchfork, scythe, and oil derrick.

When we contacted our bank to find out what the problem was we discovered our card had $200 dollars pending from The Padre as well as SEVERAL attempted charges the following day. We informed the hotel and they had a we care less attitude and were not helpful in resolving the issue until we told them if they did not handle it our bank would. If you are going to stay here good luck! Do not expect friendly and courteous employees, when dealing with the Padre it seems the customer is always wrong.

I head to Bakersfield a few times a year for work. A classmate suggested The Padre. I've been here 3x and gotta say I LOVE The Padre. Who knew Bakersfield would have such a fantastic modern hotel???!!!

ROOM: Spacious, big screen TV, super comfy large bed. Nice table for me to do my work, although last night the internet did not work...first time that's happened.

BATHROOM: Wonderfully-scented bath products, nice walk-in shower, tiled floor. Only complaint - during one of my stays, the bathroom room would not stay shut, kept sliding open.

BRIMSTONE BAR: Delicious food. Had the truffle fries & sliders, very very good! Some of my favorite beers on tap. Friendly bartenders and patrons.

FARMACY CAFE: Excellent coffee, yummy breakfast burritos, chorizo & eggs. Never had a bad meal there.

PARKING: $10, went up from $8 the last time I was there but still, I've seen much much worse at other hotels.

ROOM KEY: You will need to key the elevator to get to your room. Every time I've visited, my key has gotten demagnetized at some point. TIP: Keep your room key far, far, far away from your cell phone.

FRONT OFFICE STAFF: Always professional and courteous. Had to do a super early check-in (6AM), and my room was ready. Person who checked us in was very pleasant.

Definitely will stay here again on my next trip. Highly recommend it!!!

A great little spot. Combo of boutique hotel and old school small town hotel. The boutique part, nicely done. A mark of a modern room is lots of outlets to charge our devices. The room was well appointed, well lit, and the glass shower facing the room works for me. From the old school side, probably the quietest hotel I've ever been in. Thick walls and adequate plumbing. Something newer hotels somehow, cannot get right.

I love this place.  The decor is to die for.  I got ready here before my wedding and it was a perfect place to take some awesome photos.

The bathrooms are especially stunning.  The inside of the shower is decorated! I don't even know how they did that.

The bed was amazingly comfortable.  The TV was great.  But my favorite part was the chair in front of the TV.  So cute! I wanted to take it home with me.

They have some really bold wallpaper in the hallways that is absolutely gorgeous and cool, but if you're sporting a hangover, might not seem as great.

Speaking of, the bar downstairs has a pretty nice feel as long as there aren't too many people there. It can get kind of douche-y later in the evenings.  I've never been to the club part, mainly because it houses two of my least favorite things: bros and flashing lights.

Overall, if I was an out-of-towner, I would definitely stay here.  You get a lot for a fairly low price.

And as a side note, that whole ridiculous thing about the Padre not supporting our troops really makes me mad.  They turned away people who weren't of age to rent a room there. End of story.

This is a fine business and a great addition to Bakersfield.  I hope that it gets all the credit it deserves.

Ate dinner in the bar area after learning that entrees are half price on Mondays, which works out perfectly as that's "date night" for us!
They've recently changed their menu, which i wasnt thrilled about to begin with, but the food was delicious.  There were a few things missing, for example my favorite "wine by the glass" selection!
we had the spicy hummus, very tasty! and the nachos, which were HUGE and delicious w/ shredded beef.
i had the Padre burger, cooked to order, and the fries are soo good!
at half price entrees, dinner for two, at this VERY nice location, was less than $40 after drinks and apps also.

In town for a wedding, we got a room at this Pretty cool place.  We were very surprised at how hip and nice this place was when we arrived.

The room was awesome and classy, though there were a few questionable design choices.  For example, the shower had a glass wall that was right next to the bed... which was saucy and fun and all... however the other side of the shower was also glass, and directly next to the toilet, which meant you could see the toilet from the bed... there was a curtain you could pull, but it was sheer, and didn't leave much to the imagination.

The bed was the softest bed I had ever slept on, which was AWESOME for me, but D didn't like it at all as she prefers a firm mattress.

Late night on Friday and Saturday the place gets packed with 20 somethings who appear to frequent one of the 3 hotel bars.  We went downstairs and there was a line for the elevator, though we were pushed to the front as we were hotel guests.

We had brunch on Sunday morning in the downstairs restaurant .  The food was decent, though the service was VERY slow, for an empty restaurant.  We weren't in a huge hurry, but we were seated for probably 15 minutes before someone came to take our order... it took another 10 just to get coffee.

I have never stayed anywhere in Bakersfield, and probably won't be back anytime soon.  However if I did go back, or had a friend ask me where to stay, I would certainly recommend the Padre...

I visit the Padre frequently whether it be for pleasure or business. It suits both very well. Coming here for lunch is always a great experience and it is hardly ever packed during the day. If there was any place the padre reminds me of...its Santa Barbara...and I love Santa Barbara. The only reason I give it 4/5 stars is because on the weekends it can be very loud and packed with people making it hard to enjoy anything if your there to just have a drink or two.

One of the few places with a relaxing vibe in Bakersfield. Each area has it's own these (pub, lounge, outdoor bar), which makes Padre a great place to meet friend for an evening. We usually grab food, which has been decent, and the atmosphere is casual.

We stayed here after my cousin's wedding two weekends ago.
It was beautiful inside, our room was so clean and nice.  Huge big screen tv, walk in shower, plush king size bed....So comfy!
The wall separating the shower from the bed was a glass window...very cool!  There is a curtain that you can pull to gain some privacy there...but it is operated by the person NOT taking a shower! :)
If you book two days before on Hotels.com , it will take you to a last minute deals page, and that is where you will find a reasonable price-otherwise, it is way too overpriced for a hotel in Bakersfield.  We got our room for $70 on a Saturday night!  Very good price!
They were very accomodating and let us check in 2 hours early so that we could get ready for the wedding.

We stayed on night, and LOVED our room. Super quiet, clean, stylish, comfy. I just really don't have a bad thing to say about it. A few suggestions, like locks on the sliding bathroom doors, and a vanity mirror for those of us who wear glasses and have to take them off to put on our makeup, as the bathrooms are really dimly lit. First hotel I've stayed where the curtains actually kept the room dark in the morning and the sun did not wake us up, as well as an AC that worked great and kept the air in the room comfortable, not sticky or too dry like some hotels can get. The beds are the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in, and really made us realize tat we need to replace our own bed at home! The front desk staff, specifically a guy with no hair who checked us in, could work on being a little more friendly and welcoming, he wasn't rude but I would say he was gruff and not really polite, either. Anyhow, we loved it here and hope to come back soon. Check out time (11am) is listed in the binder on the desk that has all the other info on the hotel policies in it, and you can always call in the morning, just like we did, and ask for a late checkout, as long as you call early.

HOWEVER, we ate breakfast in the Farmarcy this morning, and the prices are ridiculous, for one thing. Ponder this: "The Works" omelette on the menu for $7, then it lists several yummy things that are in the omelette, and it's "The Works" so shouldn't you assume all of those things are in it? NO, you would be wrong, because you only get to pick THREE of your absolute favorite things, then each extra thing after that is an extra $.50. Say WHAT? I ended up paying $8, and still wasn't able to get everything that was listed. It was a fairly small omelette, too, even though it came with hash browns, which i was excited about when I saw them on my plate, until I took a bite and discovered I was getting mouthfulls of pepper. Sadly, I returned my plate of pepper covered hash browns and received a plate of toast in substitute, since it already took forever to get my food in the first place and we were ready to get the heck out of there. It looked like we were the only ones there, since we cam down so late, but it still seemed like it took quite a while to get our food. My husband ordered the chorizo and eggs, and it was delicious and perfect, so it's not all bad. i think next time i would just order it from room service, because we are still going back and i will probably get breakfast there again anyway, just I will be ready to fork out the cash for it next time, because it's awfully convenient.

This hotel is clean, wonderfully updated, the staff is very sweet and helpful. So the food is not so LA, but hey... We are in Bakersfield! Rooms are gorgeous, very comfortable, the bed is fabulous& the bathroom has a great tub! Thank you Padre Hotel for a wonderful place to stay in Bako. What a find and at a great price!!!

Room was beautiful. Dinner was amazing. Being accused of being perverts by management not really that wonderful. The reason being "you were the only room with their blinds open". Sorry that doesn't work for me.  Next time you plan to accuse someone of something that serious you may want to ask your drunk bar patron what window they saw said inappropriate behavior in. Thank you for ruining an evening that I worked so hard to plan.  Sorry, but free breakfast does not make up for being called perverts. That may not be a big deal to you but I find it more than slightly offensive. I will not be coming back which is sad since I had such high hopes.

I've stayed at two "luxury" hotels this year, once in Orange County CA, once in Seattle -- and this place leaves them in the dust. I want to live in the bathroom of the Head Honcho suite, which is comically cheap by luxury hotel standards. This bed is almost making me reconsider my thirty year devotion to waterbeds. Yes, it's in Bakersfield. But, if you're looking at this review you're already planning on coming here. You might as well stay at this surprising, delightful hotel. Every thing about the room is perfection. The kids working there not QUITE up to the standard set by the facilities, but they're all very nice and it's not a big problem.

This is cool hotel to stay at.  I stayed here with my girlfriend, and it was a nice experience.  The inside of the Padre Hotel has been completely rennovated.  It used to be a very popular spot to go clubbing but this hotel has died down as a popular spot.  If you are a guest in the hotel can bring two friend into the club for free.  If you just go to the hotel for clubbing you will need to dress up, and it costs 10 dollars per person to get in.  I think it should be free.

    Location:
The location of the Padre Hotel is in downtown Bakersfield.  It is located near all the other clubs (ie: Syndicate) in downtown Bakersfield.

    Ammenities:
There is a bar on the bottom floor of the Padre Hotel, and drinks are reasonably prices (beer and sweet drinks).  Shots are a lot of money.  Two shots of Petron cost me about 15 bucks.  When you walk into the Hotel it is not quite clear where the checkin is located.  It would have been nice to have someone standing inside the hotel to tell you where to go.

    Parking:
Valet parking is 10 dollars if you want that service.  I declined it, and parked across the street in the parking structure.  After 12:00AM the parking structure across the street closes.  You are allowed to keep your car in the structure overnight and its free.

    Price:
We paid 100 dollars to stay at the Padre Hotel one night.  Normally it is $110 but if you book the hotel online you can save about 10-15 dollars through kayak.com or orbits.com .

    Checkin / Checkout Times:
Checkin is at 4:00PM, and checkout is at 11:00AM.  You can request a late checkout if you need it.

    Overall:
I give 4 stars for this Hotel because of the newly rennovated rooms.
I give 3 stars because it was hard to find the checkin desk, itr costs $10 for Valet parking when free parking is across the street, and customer / bar service could have been a little bit better.

    Thanks,
    Robert

Pros: This is apparently the hot spot in Bakersfield, with 4 restaurants/bars, and a nice roof deck bar. Food at the Brimstone was pretty good.

    Cons: Just about everything else.

No gym, which I'd understand if this were a tiny boutique hotel, but a massive hotel with 4 restaurants, and they couldn't find a room to cram a couple treadmills into?

No free coffee anywhere. Only way to get coffee in your room was to pay $6 for coffee and a newspaper. Luckily husband was willing to go down to their cafe to get me coffee in the morning, because I'm not good at interacting with others before coffee.

Room was tiny. I've stayed in a bunch of hotels in NYC, and none were as small as this one.

Bathroom had a see-through door, and even with the curtain (which is accessible only to the person outside the bathroom), you could completely see through it. This was kind of hot when one of us was showering, much less hot when doing anything else in the bathroom, and a potential dealbreaker if traveling with anyone you don't care to see naked.

Free wi-fi, but it barely worked the whole time we were there. After not working when we first checked in, it worked for a little while after dinner, and then didn't work in the morning. I'd much rather pay a bit for wifi and know it will work when I want it. In their defense, they brought us up an ethernet cable as soon as we called to complain, which allowed one person at a time to use the internet.

The hotel was fine for a night, but if for some reason I find myself in Bakersfield again, I'll be looking into other options.

I loved this hotel. I've spent over 50% of this summer at different hotels in Central California and this by far was my favorite.

Rooms - Fun! - This is a rare hotel where the basic room is as good as or better than an upgraded one. As a single traveler, the basic room was PERFECT. The bed was ridiculously comfortable, I wish I could have taken it home with me. The glass wall to the shower was such a cute design feature, I stayed in a different room the next week (I think the head-honcho) which didn't have the glass wall and I missed it! Plus in the upgraded room there was a jacuzzi tub in the bedroom which always seems icky to me.

Food - The presentation of the food is definitely high caliber. I loved ordering room service because everything I ordered was exquisite. (We are talking about Bakersfield right? Yes!)

Ambiance - Unfortunately, I did not partake in the bar downstairs until my last day and that is my only regret because, as soon as I sat down I me two very nice people who kept me entertained for the rest of the night. The atmosphere is great down there.

Overall, I would definitely recommend the Padre to anyone staying in the Bakersfield area. (Unless you like plain, then this place is definitely not for you)

Hands down, the best bar and club in Bakerafield. Don't be fooled by the outside, the inside is stunning and has plenty of space. I thought i'd be skeeved out by the unisex bathrooms but there is security and there are separate toilets for both.

The top deck is really cool as you get a partial view of downtown. There are really strong heaters too which was nice during winter.

The club could be a little bigger, but there is so much space in the other parta of the lounge that you don't notice.

If you're looking for somewhere to take your friend from out of town or are visiting yourself, i highly reccommend on a Friday!

We finally got to stay there overnight. Neighbors have a long loud party every August so we decided to get away for a peaceful night.

From the moment we got there we were treated as honored guests. Valets took our bags and accompanied us to the front desk where we found polite and knowledgeable staff members who attended to our needs. We were offered a corner room for about $20.00 less than the standard rate. Being that it was still before check-in time, we had lunch and drinks at the bar. Despite it becoming busy, our bartender Abbi was quick with the drinks and took our order, Tomato Mozzarella Salad and a Padre Burger. FANTASTIC! We can certainly see why it gets busy!

The manager arrived to inform us that our room was ready and a very polite attendant took our bags up, escorting us to our room. WOW! For Bakersfield it was way beyond expectations!  The room was large and comfortable, separate couch seating and a large flat screen TV, views from both walls and the bathroom was something I'll remember if I ever design my own home. Huge spa tub, separate glassed in shower and private toilet room.

You can sure see the improvements that the Padre's been through, modernized yet keeping with the old hotel character, reminders of days gone by abound!

A good value for Battlefield's only upscale hotel!

We were in Bakersfield for the Nostalgia Drag Races at Famoso Raceway and decided to stay here instead of one of the generic hotels that feel like office buildings.

We loved it!  The renovated hotel, with a small boutique-hotel feel, was just right for us after a long day at the track.  The bed was so comfortable and we slept like babies.  Our room was well-appointed and the only reason I'm giving it four stars is because I would have preferred to have coffee in the room.  However, they do offer coffee delivery service for $5.95 for two people (really serves 4), which is fine, and includes the newspaper.

The other thing, that we had to discover on our own, was the open-air, rooftop patio bar and restaurant!  I wish they would have told us about this at check-in and it's fortunate that we discovered it on our own.  We stayed on the third floor and decided to walk down and found it that way.  We ended up staying, having drinks and then dinner at the bar.  We chatted with really nice people and the food was very good (fish and chips and a wedge salad).

The rooms are small, but nice.  Next time, I'd like to get a corner room that may offer more light.  It's worth a return visit.

The president of Rabobank (aka, my boss) stayed at this hotel on 8/2 checking in late.  He came into the room, pulled back the sheets and found bed bugs.  Since it was so late and he had an early start the following morning, he waited until he returned to inform his assistant of the incident (and of course didn't sleep in the bed).

After calling and speaking to the manager, asking her for a refund and explaining the circumstances, we were informed that she would NOT provide a refund and denied the accusations due to lack of proof.  (we informed her that he didn't have a Petri dish to collect the bugs in).  She was very rude about the entire issue, accusing him of being deceitful.  We informed her that we're positive that the President of our bank would not fabricate such a story.  In my opinion, they should have looked into this a bit more, refunded him, apologized for the inconvenience, and called it a day.  Instead, she chose the other route.

Went with a group of friends on a week night and was very surprised at the amount of people here past ten. I would say the crowd skewed towards an older crowd. The waitress happened to be the exgirlfriend of one of my buddies, so it was very awkward at first when she served us. I have to say bravo to her for doing her job excellently and not dropping a drink on him. Was a nice classy place that was surprisingly not as expensive as expected. My only complaint is the stupid bathroom. I got lost trying to find it... be warned it's in the basement and hard to find.

This is one of the few hotels ever that I was sad to leave. To think, that a hotel in Bakersfield embodies the excellence of design and function one would find in a boutique hotel in New York. It reminded me design-wise and service-wise me of several of the Kimpton's hotels, only at a fraction of the price.

The design of the room was smart, gracious, and comfortable -- clean lines and fabrics in a variety of blacks, greys and whites and patterns using this palette from floor to ceiling. The hotel itself is an art deco masterpiece with lobbies and restaurants retaining the old with elements of the new. Even the photos on their site don't do it justice.

My room had a 12 foot ceiling with floor to ceiling drapes; large flat screen TV, a bathroom the size of my bedroom at home with smart fixtures, a large step in shower with patterned black tiles on the sides and plain small tiles on the floor with rain shower showerhead and a seat built in a super comfortable bed (I believe memory foam with extra padding on top); a large comfortable chair with accompanying ottoman. Toiletries provided were top notch.

The wi-fi was fast and flawless.

The staff was cheerful, accommodating, and it was clear when chatting with them that they had a great deal of pride about the hotel. When I asked if I could place the cooling packs from my cooler in their freezer, they volunteered that they could provide me gratis with a small refrigerator.

I was glad that rather than choosing one of the usual chain motels in Bakersfield (where I needed to stay over on the way back from a road trip), I stayed at the Padre.

There was a 10 dollar charge for valet parking, but well worth it.  The car was retrieved quickly when needed.

The only negative for me was that most restaurants in that downtown areas were closed on the Sunday I was there, but with the use of Yelp and a five to ten minute drive, I found what I wanted. It's not the hotel's restaurants were unappealing -- quite the opposite -- but I was looking for something else.

If I do another road trip to Las Vegas or other points in the Southwest, this will definitely be one of my stopping places along the way.

We love this hotel! We go to Bakersfield often and have stayed at almost every hotel in the city.  We came to Bakersfield from Los Angeles for the weekend to visit with family and this hotel made me forget that I was in Bakersfield!  We are used to staying at lovely hotels and to be honest our expectations were low but wow we were surprised by the staff, rooms, ambience, bar, and valet service.  We booked the Head Honcho Jr suite from hotels.com on Sat 1/4/2014.  The décor was very nice and lively.  Our room was nicely done and we loved the spa feeling of our walk in shower and Jacuzzi tub.  The beds were so amazingly comfortable and the staff so friendly and accommodating to all our needs!  One staff member even went out of his way to locate Bubble bath when we asked if any was available.  We enjoyed the stay so much that we chose to stay again Sunday night instead of leaving back home as planned.  This time we chose the Double Deuce room so that our son had his own bed instead of sharing ours.  The room was just as nice even without the upgrades from the previous night and very spacious.  We ordered from the midnight snack section of the room service when my son decided he was starving before bed.  They were great about it and even gave us complimentary cookies.  We were so comfortable that we slept past our alarm and it was almost check out time.  A quick call to the front desk and happy to find that she was friendly about the situation and gave us an hour later check out time. Very happy with the stay here and will choose this hotel every time we go to visit. Almost forgot to compliment the valet- they were amazing!  We came and went from the hotel several times and never once a hint of annoyance.

First and foremost you will notice the money, detail, and hard work that restored this old hotel back to it's old grandeur. Everything from top to bottom is gorgeous with the floors being the only exception, they look cheap and tacky.

The rooms are gorgeous, but the prices are a tad steep for Bakersfield. I have eaten at Brimstone and the food was reasonably priced and very tasty. The drinks we're also amazing, a long island for five dollars! I hope those aren't just temporary prices to draw the crowd, but even if they are I'm still coming back. When I get a chance to go to the restaurant or stay in a room I will be back with more reviews.

I freaking love this place. Rooms are cozy. The decor is awesome. The restroom is bad ass. The bed is like sleeping in a cloud. Stayed for a couple of nights when i was passing through BAKO a while back it was suppose to be an over nighter but i didn't want to leave. Spent about 120 a night well worth it. Thank You PADRE for a beautiful nights sleep.

So I found myself in Bakersfield for business and I though "not going to find a nice bar with good food and a great environment" WRONG. The food was delish, the service was excellent. The bartender was friendly an efficient all great experience and next time I'm down here I'm going to book my room here....

For my birthday dinner on 3/21/10, my family & I dined at the Belvedere.  We were blown away by the décor immediately as we walked inside the Padre Hotel.

We started with the "Chef's Whim" which had Scallops, Crab Legs, Shrimp Cocktail with a hint of Wasabi, & perfectly Seared Ahi Tuna.  We were highly impressed with the quality of fish.

My uncle ordered the "Filet" (6 oz) on top of mashed potatoes.  He said that the meat melted in his mouth- no chewing needed.  My aunt ordered the "Italian Braised Short Ribs" accompanied by cubes of sweet potatoes & julienned carrots.  I ordered the "Shrimp, Scallop Green Thai Curry" which sat in a pool of white beans.

Chef Lance introduced himself to the patrons.  My aunt liked the filet so much that she asked the chef where he purchased the meat.  He learned that my uncle & I share the same birthday, so he sent us a platter of desserts including "Crème Brulée Napoleon", "Crunchy Chocolate Bar", "Lemon Bar", & "Warm Apple Bar with Cinnamon Ice Cream".

The Belvedere was 5 out of 5 stars based on the food, staff, service, & ambience.  I can't wait to go back to try the other restaurants, Brimstone (bar room) & the Prairie Fire (rooftop deck location)!

    Check out the menus....

I spend way too much money at this place often, but its worth it. Great mix of people during Happy Hour on Fridays, great lunch specials, great cafe.

Wi-fi seems to be hit or miss, but I think they resolved the issues. Oh, and bring back the lunch specials!

A hip fine dining restaurant in Bakersfield. While secluded in the middle of nowhere for a conference, we decided to have a nice dinner on the last night. What a pleasant surprise! The hotel looks meh on the outside, but inside looks vibrant and hip with decor like the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica, only smaller.

The restaurant was a bit noisy, but service was adequate and the food was good. I customized my own salad to start, which was small but flavorful. I had the ahi tuna for my entree and it was seared perfectly with a wasabi cream sauce and spicy mayo drizzled on the plate. The wasabi mashed potatoes were incredibly strong and not for the faint of heart. Every single bite had me reaching for my champagne or my water. Mom's pot stickers looked and smelled good too. I never got a bite tho. And I hear the short ribs were to die for but I also didn't get a bite. Everyone left commenting that the food was just excellent. I'd definitely recommend it.

Plenty of reviews already here, will try to add only my more useful comments.

Easy to find, since it's the tallest thing around and has a huge sign on the roof.  Street parking for short-term, but you're more or less forced to use the valet parking.  It costs $8 to valet park (per day?) and the charge for that it is automatically added to your bill.  Valet service was quick and efficient for our one night stay.

Staff was friendly, helpful and professional all around (in the halls, elevator, front door, desk).  Room service isn't that expensive by the way - fun to try if you aren't usually in a splurging mood other places (my first time!).

The lounge downstairs looked like not a bad decor to hang out in.  And there's something on the second floor, which we completely neglected to check out!

Our room was a basic room, not one of the more expensive ones.  Quite impressed for $109!  I'm used to the bigger city prices, where $100 gets you a Motel 6, ha ha.  As others mentioned, the transparent shower is weird, especially if you are sharing a room with someone who isn't your intimate partner.  Really comfortable bed, my gf was in heaven.  Nice big screen TV which was fun (since I haven't owned a TV in many years...).

Bottom line - if you can afford it and have to be in Bakersfield, have fun with it!

Oh last random experience - there was a dance/music event downstairs while we stayed.  Interesting to have all sorts of people there for a social event, but it didn't cause a problem.   Reasonably well managed by the staff.

My wife and I stayed at the Padre for one night (Tuesday) while on our way to Los Angeles. My first impressions were "this is a nice hotel". The check in staff was friendly and professional.

We were given a room on the third floor, which was fine but didn't offer much of a view. The room was very modern but kind of strange. A glass wall separated the bedroom and bathroom. A sheer curtain was available to provide privacy. The king size bed appeared to have a tempur-pedic mattress topped with a pillow top mattress pad, with down duvet and pillows. Unfortunately, this was not as comfortable as one might think and I woke up with my back hurting. There was a flat screen television available for viewing from bed.

For dinner, we decided to have a bite to eat in the bar, as the restaurant was a bit expensive. At the bar, I ordered the Steak and Fries and my wife ordered the Beef Nachos. Both items were exceptionally good. The bar was very busy, especially for a Tuesday Evening. We ended up sitting at the bar. The bar chairs were less than comfortable as they were designed in such a way that you always felt you were sliding out of them.

While it didn't bother me, I did notice there was no coffee machine in the room. All of the other basics were available. Hair dryer, shampoos, soap, towels, etc. The room was very quiet despite the fact we were overlooking a major intersection. The windows in the room were crank style with screens but the cranks had been removed so they couldn't be opened. The air conditioner was set up so you couldn't set it below 65 degrees. With the down duvet, combined with the windows not opening and limited air conditioning we found we got to warm during the night.

We had breakfast at the "Farmacy" also located in the hotel. Once again, the food was extremely good. Checkout was pretty seamless as was getting our car from valet parking. We took care of own bags both in and out. Over all I liked the hotel, but it left me feeling as if it could have been a little better. Should the opportunity present itself I would probably stay here again.

Im from out of town & stayed here with my cousin's bride & a couple of bridesmaids. I must say it's a beautiful hotel with great customer service. Everyone from the front desk to valet was extremely attentive. I don't go to Bakersfield often, but I will definitely keep this hotel in mind. The parking lot next to the hotel is pretty sketchy though  - creeped me out; recommend valet (it's complimentary for guest).

I stayed at The Padre Hotel for one night last weekend, and it was one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had. I have traveled a lot, and this place would easily be $300-400 a night in any semi-large city. I completely agree with their advertising gimmicks that claim you won't be able to believe you're in Bakersfield.

I grew up in Bako, and I decided to stay here after a few recommendations from friends who still live there, as I was returning for a day after not having been there for a few years. We stayed in room 716. It was beautifully decorated with a huge feather bed, large flat panel tv and awesome all-glass shower (there are privacy curtains). We were a little worried about the noise situation because there was a large bridal party staying on our floor, but we never heard anyone from the other rooms.

We hung out in our room for a while after arriving, and then ventured downstairs to the rooftop bar to watch the Lakers game. The bar looked just like any nice place in downtown San Diego, and the drink prices were a lot cheaper. We didn't try the food, but the ambiance and crowd was fun and friendly.

The decor throughout the hotel is funky and modern, and the attitude is hip and youthful. I wouldn't suggest this place for a family vacation, but that's why I liked it. And who would be going on a family vacation to Bakersfield, anyway?

My experiences have varied significantly from visit to visit, but I typically have a very good time here. Ask anyone local; it's just nice to have a hip place that looks great  to serve as a backdrop for an evening out. It's something Bakersfield is sorely lacking, and we need to support this place.

NOTE: There are multiple restaurants and bars inside. I will copy my reviews from their individual Yelps below, but this review is regarding the hotel itself.

Rooms: Quite nice - and very classy. This is a modern twist to vintage chic, and it works. The colors support the textures and the feel works. It's a great place for a romantic night together, or simply an upscale stay.

Service: Typically, above the cuff for the value. You're not getting 4 star treatment, but they make you feel special without being pretentiously over-the-top. It's refreshing.

Facilities: Banquet rooms are possibly the strongest asset the hotel has. Great locations for meetings and events.

Overall: Thank goodness for the Padre. It's championing the right buzz for this city, and I hope it continues to thrive and spurs other projects for Bakersfield. We need locations like this here.

    ------------------------------------------------------------

    Dining:

The Brimstone downstairs is loud. The high ceiling and architecture in this Americana Sports-Bar make for a "food court at the mall" level of sound. I'm not typically someone who can enjoy a restaurant where I have to yell across a table to talk to my friends - unless the food is so good I wouldn't be talking anyway. Sadly, the Brimstone isn't that good. It's nice, but not worth just coming for the food only. Since I can't justify sitting there staring at TVs while eating my overpriced burger, I don't typically go here unless it's a weeknight and I can see the crowd is small from the windows outside.

The Farmacy: Also downstairs. Also loud. Very cool and quirky with the farm motif. I'd frequent this establishment if it were an independent place that didn't sound like a jumbo jet was taking off inside. It's a pity too - their coffee and Italian sodas are some of the best in the city, and their scones, muffins, etc., are better than Starbucks.
It's never packed so the sound is entirely the fault of the Brimstone.

Belvedere: Now we're talking. This is a very nice dining experience - and it's not something people typically talk about as the "go to" for a romantic evening, but it should be. Tucked away in the back, so it's nice and quiet. The menu is solid surf and turf with unique and flavorful appetizers. I'm a big fan of their Ribeye - ask them to do it "The Padre Way" and you'll be quite happy. Other standouts include the Duck Confit, and the Pacific Cod served with a  shiitake, mint, and lemon grass consomme.

Prospect: Also downstairs, but isolated and with a good atmosphere. Nice look, and the live music has (so far) been very good. This is more of a bar than a restaurant, though they do serve food. The drinks are outstanding, and this was where the best bar service in the hotel seemed to be.

Prarie Fire: for 6 months out of the year, this is my favorite nightlife spot. It's on the second floor roof, outside, and the combination of comfortable seating, good drinks, and ambiance, make it a home run. When it gets stupid hot out here in Bakersfield, it's a miserable sweltering mess. The service here is quick and good, and the drinks are great. I've never left this spot without being happy I went.

I wish I could hug the geniuses behind this beautifully retro/modern renovated hotel in the old business district area of Bakersfield. My husband and I have to travel here two or more times per year for Rotary business and we would always make it a one-day trip -- exhausting. This was mainly because there wasn't anywhere good to stay in the area and we would just rather get home. Last year we discovered this beautiful hotel that has the added bonus of having your entire nightlife and culinary needs all rolled into one!

We have now stayed two times -- each time has been an amazing experience from the Customer Service, to the fantastic rooms, to the upscale and casual eating experiences and finally the fun Brimstone bar. Oh and don't forget the breakfast cafe -- the Farmacy Cafe -- fresh, yummy and perfect for the morning after.

I cannot say enough about the rooms. The designer and decorators were brilliant. Enormous jetted tubs with deluge water from the ceiling and showers built for two with dual heads. Wood, stone and high-end finishing touches all built around a sort of "Mad Men" chic sensibility with flocked brocade wallpaper and heavy draperies. Plush accessories and toiletries -- fantastic beds and bedding. You want to move in and live there, not just stay the night. Flat panels in every room... and most suites are complete with a wet bar with sink and refrigerator. I am telling you -- they have thought of everything in a high-end hotel and put a price on the rooms that is a STEAL!! Shhhhhh. Don't tell them that we would pay more!

If you do make it to the Padre, come in time to have a little bite at Brimstone. Then come back and dine at the chic, contemporary upscale eatery Belvedere. Finish with a turn around the dance floor at the nightclub Prospect or lounge on the couches of the roof deck bar Prairie Fire while listening to local music and enjoying the balmy summer night air. Finish with a return to Brimstone and a nightcap before returning to a luxurious bath and the fantastic room that awaits you.

I swear it's really Bakersfield. You'll have to pinch yourself!

If for some reason you ever find yourself in Bakersfield, CA this is a really cool place to stay. Because of my job I stay in A LOT of hotels and they're usually the usual suspects--Hampton Inn, Marriott, et al. So when I travel for pleasure I like to find hotels that have something a little different and a bit more character. The Padre Hotel definitely fits that bill.

You notice this the second you walk into the lobby (see my photo of the registration desk). There's definitely a lot of character here. Everything looks and feels very modern and chic, but not in a pretentious way; it's fun. I know that might sound lame, but I've seen a lot of businesses go for that vibe and not really cut it. The rooms are spacious; don't be fooled by the square footage. I stayed in the Maverick room and it was definitely big enough--I had my bicycle, a bike case, and a couple other bags and there was more than enough room. Plus, any hotel that has a stand up shower gets big marks from me. And everything is super clean.

Downstairs in the lobby there are a few dining and nightlife options--a fancy-ish restaurant, a lounge/club, a bar/pub called Brimstone, and a coffee shop/breakfast place called the Farmacy. I visited Brimstone and Farmacy. From what I can tell, the locals flock to this place. It can get a little noisy in the lobby at night. But you don't hear that from your room.

One thing I read that people complained about was the fee for the valet. If you don't want to pay the valet just park in the public parking garage (first 2 floors are public) across the street.

let me break the review down into the following parts

    1. Hotel Room
    2. brimstone
    3. prospect lounge

    Hotel Room

Having stayed at the padre a few times, mainly in the 40 winks room, the maverik and the maverik ada room, the room prices vary between 99 and 169. The rooms are mostly gorgeous, the walls have some really trippy wall paper which makes for great walking in the hallways when drunk.

the bed and the linens are really good. there is a sign that says 'take it' which makes you want to take the stuff home.

The lights are dim and not direct at all. For ex when you turn on the lights, the lights are directed upwards which makes for very cool shadows.

The room is very up to date and very trendy and the H20 bath products are awesome. I brought up a couple of guests and they were extremely impressed [wink wink]

As Stephen previously mentioned, the bathrooms are classy and transparent to someone sitting on the bed. so you can be surfing on the bed watching TV and watch your date take a shower. :-). for the prudes yes there is a curtain and no once you get into the shower there is no stopping the person outside from opening the curtain for a spectacular view.

The bathrooms also have a cool sitting area where you can sit down and take a nice shower. It also makes for very interesting bathroom dynamics when taking a shower together.

    Brimstone

The brimstone is a lounge type area which is to the left as soon as you enter the building from the main entrance. having been there about three dozen times mainly in the evenings, I can definitely attest to the service. The bar tenders are pretty funny even when busy and the drink prices are very reasonable.

they also have a pool table which gets busy late evenings. I also heard that they have live music, thgh I have never been there that early.

I think they have happy hour everyday and food / drink specials every day except sunday.

Try the chimichanga Verde. It is delicious and only 9 bucks. It has only been on the menu for a few days and it is the bomb

    Prospect lounge

This is my fav part. I was here once over the weekend and DJ Quiz was playing on both nights. The crowd looks definitely more upscale and girls were friendly :-p. Met a couple opf great dancers. The go go dancers Andy and Brittney keep the crowd moving and amped.

Valet is $10 overnight with ins and out's.
Wifi is very spotty, but each room has a hard wire ethernet port.
Elevators need room key to go beyond floor 3
The two complimentary bottles of glaciier water is a nice touch.
The room does not have a mini fridge [would be nice to have one]

This was our 4th stay at the Padre Hotel. We have stayed at a number of other places in BF and this is our favorite by far. Its priced right the rooms are up to date, bright and airy. Very comfortable beds, nice linen. Its right downtown which is very convenient for us. The bldg has an old and interesting history. Defiantly a pleasure to stay at.

On our last visit we learned of their resident ghost, a little girl who reportedly has a playful nature and is happy to stay at the Padre. Perhaps on our next visit she will play a prank on us.

The service has always been top notch, any need we have had has always been addressed quickly and courteously. The staff is very helpful, friendly and kind. Nick took great care of us from the moment we checked in on our last visit, definitely an assets to the Padre.

A great place to stay while in Bakersfield.

Huge, clean room in a nicely reno'ed building with a great views for under $125. The downstairs bar is a bit of a high school party scene, but the room itself was quiet.

But basically what it comes down to is: It's f*cking Bakersfield. Where else are you going to stay?

A-OK, for the city of Bakersfield, California.  But I will say I've experienced better.

No, I did not stay here.
No, I did not go into the club.
No, I did not go to the bar.
No, I did not go to the bathroom.

I pretty much stayed in the lobby since everywhere else was crowded w/ people standing around. You could tell that this had to be one of the only happening spots in DTB.  It had the "hip" party/club scene - the decor, the lights, the drinks.  Even though I didn't get to experience the Padre in full, I did have a drink & took a visit to see the restrooms which were lit in blue with mirrors all around.

The club's cover was $20 - which I GUESS is tolerated since it's located in the middle of nowhere, but it didn't fly with me or the group I was with.  I don't even pay that much to get into a Vegas/LA club!

Cop cars roll by at least every 2-3 minutes - at least you get somewhat a feeling you're safe?

The feel and look of Padre really makes one forget that you're in Bakersfield...awesome architecture!

The room is clean and modern, but if you are a family staying here on the weekend, be prepared for the short-skirt takeover! This place turns into a club on weekends, but it is free for guests.

The food is a bit pricey, but people come here for atmosphere!

    Overall, a good experience!

The hotel was the main reason for the destination (My review from TripAdvisor).
A weekend getaway from the Los Angeles area, Bakersfield seems far and close enough. Not being familiar with "Bako" I searched the hotels and the Padre had nice reviews and dreamy photos on various sites.

The hotel was the main reason for the destination. I didn't want to leave the footsteps because this hotel had various restaurants/cafes and bars to choose from inside. The decor is captivating and someone paid close attention to detail for everything! Relaxing ambiance in the patio and lounges. A soul/funk cover band played on Sunday night under the stars and hanging light bulbs.

Dinner at Brimstone - loved the huge chairs that make you feel like a small king. Tasty appetizers and burgers.
Breakfast at the Farmacy Cafe - best French toast I've ever had, my boyfriend said his pancakes were the best he'd ever had!

If they had a pool, hot tub, or day spa, it would be the icing on the cake! Not much for shopping around the area. Although we walked to a vinyl record shop, fresh juice bar, and consignment stores.

Do not stay here on a Friday or Saturday night unless you will be out all night. They have a club on the first floor that has such loud music my room is shaking with the bass. I have called to complain and they insist they are having it turned down but there is definitely no change. This is a nice hotel with super cute decor and great restaurants but the noise is unacceptable.

I will never stay here again. The Padre needs to decide if they want to be a nightclub or a hotel. I created a yelp account just to warn anyone thinking of staying here.

I have had mixed experiences here, but overall I really like this place for the Hotel itself and the Nightclub/bar. You can't beat the ambiance anywhere else in town. I agree with other reviewers that this establishment needs to be supported as it's function in our town is not really replicated elsewhere.  I will list my experiences in the order they took place:

    1. Reception after a funeral (2010) - When my grandfather passed away, the family had the reception here. The services wasn't very great in respect with beverages, as there were a number of people and we were required to order our beverages individually, and this caused a bit of a problem. The Hors d'oeuvres that were served however, were most delicious. There were these chicken skewers with a pesto sauce, little cheeseburger sliders with crispy onions, just to name a couple.  Everything tasted amazing, despite our grief that day.

    2. New Years Eve Party (2010-2011) - The Padre hosts a New Years Eve party every year and tickets can include only the party itself or you can get a package deal for the party a room and dinner. We only paid for the party. It was so much fun! Totally awesome music! It was an exceptional evening and we vowed to come back again for this event the next year.

    2. Bachelorette Party (2011) - We stayed in the hotel for my bachelorette party, and also danced and drank in the club and bar downstairs. Everything was perfect. The room was beautiful, the club was pretty great, the drinks were good. I vaguely remember eating a ham and cheese sandwich from the Pharmacy cafe and being pleased with that. The only issue was that checkout was at 11:00 Am and they refused to allow us to check out at Noon instead. Kind of a bummer.

    3. New Years Eve Party (2011-2012) We came back for this and did not have the same great time. For those who have never been to the New Years Eve party at the Padre, there are different places to dance and drink both downstairs and upstairs on the rooftop bar. When our group of five first got here the line for the elevator was really long so a staff member let us know that there was no wait for the stairs. A couple of us, later ventured downstairs again to dance to some different music. When we tried to get back upstairs to the rest of our group there was a staff member with one of those ropes and he informed us we could not use the stairs unless we had a room (noted by the color of our wristbands). I asked him how this was possible and why this was happening and he explained that "they" didn't want a lot of traffic up and down the stairs.........For anybody who works for the Padre that might be reading this I want you to know, if you don't want "traffic" on your stairs then don't throw a huge New Years Eve party or better yet build another elevator to accommodate people. If that is too much to ask, then you should really just let people use the stairs since we all paid to attend this party whether or not we paid for a room.

We had a very positive experience here.  We needed to go to Bakersfield for one night for a wedding, and the bride and groom reserved some rooms here at a group price.  I booked on the phone, and at that time the man who did the reservations said it would be $99, which isn't that bad.

We called in repeatedly (2-3 times) to try to get an early check in, since the wedding was at 3 and check in is at 4.  We called the night before, and two times on the day.  Unfortunately, we still didn't get to check-in early, and the person was kind of rude about it in person.  But anyways, it wasn't that big of a deal.

Valet parking is the only way to park.  They add it to your tab.  I think it's $10ish.

There are a couple of restaurants downstairs, which we didn't try personally.  Our friends did, and we got mixed reviews.  We tried eating brunch on Sunday, but the service was so slow so we left.

However, the room was great!  We had the "ten winks" room (I think that's what they call it), which I believe is the most basic room.  Ours was pretty spacious, but our friends had similarly priced rooms that were smaller.  So the rooms aren't all the same.  The shower has clear walls on both sides, so you can see through the shower from the bed.  Which means you can see the toilet from the bed.  Which is kind of weird (there is a curtain though).  But it's a little inconvenient when you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, because if you want to turn on the bathroom light, you'll light up the whole room.

The rooms were clean and beds were SO COMFORTABLE.  I now need to buy a down-mattress.  Luxury at its finest.

Oh yeah, and when we checked out, the actual room price was $79, not $99.  So the total, with valet, taxes, etc. was about $98.  Awesome!

My GF and I booked the best room in the house (Oil Baron Suite) to make a special occasion even more special when coming to town for the Miranda Lambert concert. Surprisingly affordable by big city standards, and a very nicely done room ... highly recommended for a romantic getaway. While the service from the kitchen was painfully slow, the food was excellent. But we can't say enough good things about the service level and friendliness of the rest of the staff.  Mark, the shuttle van driver absolutely rocks, and saved us from being stranded after the concert.  Zachary at the hotel was SO nice, made us feel like royalty, and helped enormously when our early check-in request could not be accommodated, setting us up in temporary quarters while we waited. Zachary ... We love you!

Stayed here mid-April 2013. Expensive, yet very nicley remodled rooms. Sadly, the disco on the first floor vibrated the entire building till closing at 2 a.m. The fancy restaurant, The Belvedere Room, an easy 50 bucks a person, was also compromised by the thumping of the dance music. Don't get me wrong, I love to party just as much as the next person but for the prices of the room and the meal the thumping was a bit much. Also, the bar on the first floor must be the place to be. What a meat market!
Glad the '20 somethings' in  Bakersfield have the money to party in this place.

It was annoying walking into the Padre Hotel after driving for six hours to find a loud and obnoxious drunk crowd. We pretty much had to walk right through a night club to get to our room. Why do they not have a separate entrance for the hotel patrons and the night club goers?

Once we arrived at our room we were pleasantly surprised by the decor and the comfort of the room. The bed was probably one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. The hotel had valet, which made parking no problem. The padre is close to most Bakersfield destinations.

This place is a cool, trendy spot. Nice atmosphere cool people and very busy, a hotel, club, restaraunt all in 1. My only complaint is the roof top bar, it's a cool concept upstairs but I had a really bad experience with this prejudice lil douche bag nerd of a bar maid!! I was waiting for a drink calmly I might add , when his I guess friend was behind me and the bar maid guy looked over me to serve him , now I never had that happened to me EVER so yeah it pissed me off to say the least , I talked a lil crap then took a deep breath then walked away.. As far as everything else here I loved this place , now this city was just a visit for me I would never live here nor do I know what this place has to offer but the padre hotel is the place to be when your in Bakersfield .

Like a previous poster Bakersfield? I know! But..... We happen to live in Bakersfield and I was surprised with a dinner by my husband for our anniversary at the Belvedere room.  Amazing food , better than any 5 star restaurant I've been to ( in LA not Bakersfield!) the dessert was good but nothing compared to the dinner and wine.  The room itself was one of the nicest I have stayed in and I loved it. CLEAN!  Very upscale, nicely decorated and comfortable. Was so impressed with the quality of everything, I felt like a queen..... The staff was so friendly competent and sweet..... The nightlife trickles down to the floors late at night but by then u was in dreamland and barely noticed..... Lived every minute of our night.

Very unsatisfied with my experience at the Padre Bar last night. I waited at the bar, front and center, attempting to wave down a waiter for an hour. Finally when I got serviced, the bartender argued with me when I complained about my wait time. I've worked customer service for years... Every manager I've ever had always stresses "the customer is always right, even if their wrong." You never argue when someone gives constructive criticisms over a long wait. Nevertheless, after he argued me he continued to yell "SO DO YOU WANT A DRINK OR NOT?" I wish I could give my review negative stars, I've never felt so disrespected. Not only should you never speak to a customer like that, you should never speak to a lady in that manner. This is not an underground grunge bar, it's supposed to be the nicest bar in bakersfield. Class it up people.

I love the atmosphere.  We had lunch in the bar area.  Added a star only because the place was gorgeous, however, they took our order and forgot to place it in the kitchen.  When we did finally get our food, it's presentation was lovely and was quite deleesh.

A beautiful hotel with excellent device! From the friendly valet staff, to the front desk and restaurant employees - everyone was friendly, helpful and efficient. The check-in process was the quickest that I've ever experienced. (I always wonder why it takes so long when the hotel already has all of your information?). We had a leisurely dinner outside by the open fire with live music. The bed was amazing - so comfortable with great pillows. The room was clean and the bathroom had a great layout. Nice view watching your roommate take a shower in the am!  Will definitely stay here again on our So. Cali road trip.

This review is for the hotel itself not the bars, lounge, or food.

Being that The Padre has stood vacant for years it's fantastic to finally have the place restored. It really is a beautifully renovated boutique hotel. The rooms are small, and parking can be difficult (although valet is offered). But overall the beauty of the place is really something. Maybe it's something locals can appreciate more than others since this place had been a dump for decades. I would definitely recommend this place for visitors to Bakersfield. It's central and nearby to most everything. Don't expect you can walk to most places though, or even take public transit, Bakersfield is a commuter town.

This review is based on a Saturday night stay and Sunday brunch at the Brimstone.

We hit the road at 6:30 am from the East Bay and headed down Hwy 99 to Palmdale for our nephew's first birthday party. Yeah, I know we could have done the I-5 but that is such a miserable drive and there's nothing to look at except the car ahead of you or the truck beside you. On 99 you can pull off, stop at someplace interesting, stretch your legs and grab a cup of coffee. So what if we didn't get to the party until almost 2:30pm, We hung out with the family until after 8 then headed back to Bakersfield. We pulled up to the Padre about 10:30pm.

The Padre Hotel is the hotspot of Bakersfield. The place was hoppin' with young men and women dressed up for a night of fun. You couldn't hear yourself think, the music was so loud. The BOOM BOOM BOOM from the club quickly faded as we rode up the elevator to our room on the seventh floor.

Our room (Maverick) was spacious and tastefully done in shades of black and gray. The decor is on the modern side. My husband was especially interested in the large sliding door that opened up onto the bathroom area. Slide open. Slide close. Repeat.

The king-sized bed was inviting. A down comforter dressed in white, together with plump, down pillows. The feather bed topper made it even more crazy comfortable. I plopped onto the bed and that was it. My husband tried to wake me up but I was done. Oh well, so much for a cocktail at the bar. Woke up the next morning feeling like I'd slept in - and we had - 6:30am is sleeping in for us! We watched the telly for a bit then took our time getting ready.

After we checked out we had brunch at the Brimstone Bar. I ordered the chile verde omelet, he the chilaquiles. We both had coffee. Our meals were delicious and filling, and prepared us for the long drive home.

Overall, we had a pleasant experience and stay. All staff who dealt with us were friendly, polite and professional. It's the right price for a bit of luxury. The Padre Hotel is a solid 4.5.

There are a few things I would expect to find in my room in an upscale hotel. Maybe they are available if you are staying in a suite, but I would consider the following to be basic necessities for all rooms:

Cotton swabs. Go ahead and laugh, but when you gotta have one, you gotta have one.

Shower cap. Same reason as above.

Make-up mirror. Ladies, if putting on make up in the morning is important to you, bring a compact mirror, draw back the window curtains and sit in the chair by the window. The low light in the bathroom won't do. It would be nice if they had a lighted make up mirror, then the "mood lighting" in the bathroom won't matter quite so much.

Mini bar. My husband would have enjoyed a nightcap in our room when he realized we weren't going to make it downstairs.

Information book of hotel services and amenities. It would have been nice to read through. It might have contained information like where to find the ice machine or order room service. If I hadn't fallen asleep I might have called the front desk. But I didn't see instructions or a list of number to call, i.e, dial xx for reception, dial xx for housekeeping, dial xx for room service.

Gideon's bible. Okay, not exactly a "must have" but I've always found one in a desk or nightstand drawer. Maybe ours went missing, or they just don't have them at the hotel. I'm working on a photography project taking photos of Gideon's bible in every hotel room where I stay. When I have enough photos, I'll publish them into a coffee table book. Call me crazy, but just you wait and see.

The Padre brings class to Bako, which let's face it, is pretty hard to do.  If you are young or old, hip or nerdy this is the place to be and be seen!  You can spend your whole evening bar hopping or wining and dining in one place!  And if things get out of control you can just stay the night there in one of the spacious, modern rooms.  What's not to love?  You can eat, drink, dance, chill, play pool, and sleep all in one place!

Belevedere is a top-notch dining experience.  Brimstone has a beatiful bar with a pool table and comfortable tall seating and bar food.  Prairie Fire is a gem of a rooftop bar located on the second floor.  Lit by simple over hanging lights and the fire, being up here feels like you have left Bakersfield completely.  If you are hungry, you can also order bites to eat up here.  I have yet to try Farmacy for breakfast and coffee nor Prospect Lounge to dance.  They are on my list though!

The Padre's update is bringing downtown back to life and I can't get enough of it!

Beautiful hotel for just $119 for a king size room. Everything was comfortable, clean, and well designed. The shower even had a little ledge/seat (for a good time, you know).

My boyfriend and I ordered dinner at the casual restaurant with a bar. I had the BBQ wings that were absolutely delicious. Plus the bar seemed to be the spot of the night because there were a lot of people hanging out and having drinks.

    Would definitely stay here again!

The band was playing in town and I was there visiting my bf. Tour mgmt put us all up at the Padre in Bakersfield.

Beautifully done, the interior is modern, clean and cool with a Western feel and the beds are insanely comfortable. They provide H20 + products and really nice towels and linens that smell fresh and feel soft. Padre is going for a NY boutique vibe, kinda Standard LA/ W vibe with a Bakersfieldy modern but vintagey feel.

Not sure what kind of room we were in but the shower/bathroom is completely glass and you can see everything in the bathroom from the bedroom itself even with the sheer "privacy curtain". It's kind fun and sexy in the shower but doing a number two while your significant other can see you in full view is kinda awkward. Also, the curtain is on the outside of the bathroom so you have no control over who can open it. If you have a bf/gf or kids that likes to play games you will have no privacy AT ALL in the bathroom.

The Brimstone bar downstairs has delicious truffle fries and the garbanzo salad I had was perfect.

Do NOT order late night room service. All they have is chili and two sandwiches. Who the hell eats chili at 2 am? I was looking at the dinner dessert menu wishing I could get peach cobbler or something like that.

A note to Padre MGMT-- late night menu "snack foods" should include sweet things, dessert, cereal along with sandwiches. No one wants to eat chili at 2 am, that is ridiculous. After having the food at the Brimstone bar, which was awesome...we were really bummed out about the late night room service menu and the sandwiches we ordered were at 2am mediocre at best. White Bread, ham, swiss, lettuce tomato.. booooorrriiiing. Ya'll need to get some chocolate on that menu!

Also, the valet is 10$ for the day and the valet guy held my door open with his dirty ass converse sneaker when he was pulling up my car and getting out. He left a shoeprint.. I was pissed, I just had my car cleaned. Total lack of professionalism, but I live in LA where people take their cars seriously and valets a respectful of that.

Last Saturday nite I was in Bakersfield where my family lives and wanted to take my daughter to a special birthday dinner at Padre fine dinning resturaunt.  We were seated around 9 pm,  not busy at all.  We placed our beverage orders,  our server seemed preoccupied and slow,  when he finally brought our water,  I asked for my hot tea he was snappy and said defensively,  it's coming I'm getting this water first.    Later in the meal we asked for a mr pibb.  Which he never brought.  When he brought the bill he handed it to us he just stood there ,   so I told my daughter to check and make sure we were not charged for the Mr pibb,  the waiter said  " no it's not on the bill,  I got busy talking to another table about them starting a new restaurant here in town and forgot".    He also refilled my tea cup with hot water when it was almost empty without even bringing another tea bag making it a cup of hot water.     Never again Padre.

Ok so this is the nicest hotel in Baskersfeild.  I like the cool retro look and artsy decor.  Bed was really comfy, cool sexy shower. wi fi.
However, some of the basics were lacking...no gym! Had to walk 5 blocks and pay $10 to use some random gym, and jeez, no coffee maker in the room? I need my tea before bed and in the morning I need my coffee before I can interact and play with others.

Props for honoring the Gov rate tho!

oh and one last thing...Smelt like Bacon in the morning and smelt like Fish at night.

Very good stay for the price.  This place needs better (friendlier) service, but we definitely enjoyed our stay here and would come back.  Trendy decor, good size room and comfy bed.  Yes, the bathrooms are quite dark (bad fixture selection IMO), but spacious and clean.  We payed a little extra for one of the corner rooms.
Had a really good dinner in the bar, but our breakfast service the next day wasn't good (very slow and mediocre food).  Did not try the restaurant.

No coffee maker in room nor will they bring you one if requested.  They have a coffee shop in the lobby though and will bring coffee drinks to your room.

We stayed here 2 separate nights on the same weekend since we had to drive back and forth to Vegas. First night on wednesday was about $100 and second night on Sunday was about $70-90, i can't remember. Good deal since this hotel is luxurious and really nice!

Our room was so nice and clean! See-thru shower!!! You can see the person showering from the bed, but you can pull the curtains to give them privacy. It's kind of sexy haha.

The bed was so soft that it felt like I was sleeping on pillows!

Valet is $10, but we weren't charged the first night since we parked in a garage across the street since we didn't know they had valet. The guys at the valet are fast to bring your car to you and are very nice. One guy helped me carried my luggage the first night of our stay even though we didn't get valet. Excellent service! Even the front desk was nice too.

We also went to the Brimstone Bar downstairs, which was surprisingly pretty busy on a wednesday night! But we got seats at the bar when we went around 10. My glass of white wine was about $9. You can also order food but you got to order early before kitchen closes around 9 or 10.

There is a lounge too that wasn't opened on the nights we stayed but i heard its opened on fri and sat. There is a Cafe and a nicer dining place in the hotel too! We didn't get to eat in the hotel at all.

I am reviewing this as the hotel from the point of view of staying here.  It is excellent, a beautiful old building that has been nicely redone, it is exceptionally clean and well run, the rooms are beautiful and comfortable, the old architectural details nicely maintained, the halls are clean, bright and pleasant.  The location is great in the heart of downtown Bakersfield, and the prices are very reasonable.

Pretty nice hotel if you happen to be stuck in Bakersfield.

So I was stuck in Bakersfield, needed a hotel, did some yelping, and found this place.

There is a $10 valet or a public garage across the street. Those are the only real parking options.

When you walk to the front door on a Saturday there will be a line of 20 something's at the door trying to get into the club that's adjacent to the lobby. I feel like this is probably the only real night life in Bakersfield. From the outside it didn't look like much but I never went in.

The only type of room left was a mini suite. It cost $199 but they told me over the phone they'd give it to me for $169. When I got there they tried to be all schisty and charge the full price but I was on top of that.

My room was named the Head Honcho. The living room has a flat screen TV and an L couch. There were some suspicious stains on it...so I covered it in a sheet. The bedroom had a king bed, a second flat screen, and a jacuzzi. The bathroom had a see-through shower. Hmmm...I feel these rooms may often be rented by the club goers downstairs for a quick "getting to know you" session.

It is a nice room save the somewhat icky feeling that accompanies it.

    **Night Club Review**
This was my first experience and it wasn't a good one. My first impression started off bad when the bouncer asked me and every guy to lift our shirts so they can check for weapons. That immediately makes me assume there's crime related issues involved in coming here and I should be aware of my surroundings. We booked a top table and the waitress just dropped off our bottles and walked away. I've had many experiences with bottle service and the waitress has always made our first drinks at a minimum, if not for the whole night. That was the second star strike and the third was the ventilation. It was extremely hot inside and when I asked the bouncer about the heat, he confirmed that the whole club only has one A/C vent. Multiple trips to the restroom to keep fresh is not fun. I gave this two stars cause the DJ was good (only when House music was played did the crowd get into it) and because the classy design. I wasn't expecting a Vegas experience but this place has a lot of minor issues that need be to resolve before the star ratings improve.

Really enjoyed our stay at The Padre! Like others have said, I agree that it's not the typical Bakersfield hotel. Employees were adequate, lobby is beautiful, had a great view from the room. Two small quibbles about the room: (1) No soap dish in the shower; and (2) no drawers or shelves to unpack into.

Recently stayed here on my wedding night a couple weeks back.

I don't normally get a chance to review local hotels, but i was happy with this stay.

I booked a large corner room online.  When I arrived on Saturday night around 11pm, the place was very busy as they have a bar/nightclub downstairs.

Even with this crowd it was very easy to get into the hotels as they have doormen outside to help with bags and open the door for you.

I stay in a lot of hotels and this was the easiest check in i have ever had.  within a couple minutes we had our room keys and were on our way up.

The room was spacious, and the view was nice as we had a corner room, so we had windows on two sides of the room.   The room had a separate couch/lounge area.  The bathroom was very large with a huge Jacuzzi tub, and a very large shower.

The stay was very nice.  We liked the room so much my wife and I thought it might be fun to stay here again if we ever go out on the town and just need to get out of the house.

The decor of padre hotel is very festive but the dinner I had at the belvedere was just like eating at spago's in Beverly Hills.
Who needs LA! Bakersfield has a great restaurant an it's name is the Belvedere. With a outstanding chef! An I am sure the staff are just as great.
Loved everything about it. I had asked the staff if the chef could cook something off menu for my wife's birthday. They got the chef an he took time to talk to me.
He said it was not a problem and that she would like it.
I am sorry to say that he was wrong.
She LOVED it!! My wife said it reminded her of spago's an I do agree with her!
Thank you Padre hotel for bringing this chef to Bakersfield !!
An thank you to the staff that made it special

Amazing boutique hotel, so stylish and chic, so ultra cool, so wonderful and in Bakersfield, no less!  Absolutely the best place to stay, hang, and enjoy while in town.  If situated in Beverly Hills, it would be $500+ a night.  Instead, you can find rooms from $119-$200.

EVERYTHING about it, I loved.  Totally restored old hotel, so the ceilings are incredible.  But the floors, rooms, bars, restaurants, coffee shop -- are all ultra modern and ultra chic...it's absolutely stunning.  The valet gents, the service and staff -- all very nice and responsive.

My room and bathroom were fantastic and comfortable.  I upgraded to the MAVERICK room, and it was just beautiful.  I could just hang out in the extra large bathroom!  The bed was amazingly confortable, and it was extremely quiet.  I had fab night sleep.

I had limited time at the hotel itself, I mostly gawked all about.  Next time, I plan to hang out more at the hotel...and truly take it all in.  And, hear me now...I will be going back...and soon!

The Hotel, I've not seen, nor have I stayed the night here.  The lobby, I have, hence this review.  The bar area is always packed- which is good.  You know it's a happening spot.  My first visit here last year was not memorable so I gave it a second try and it was pretty much the same thing over again.

The bartenders dont come take your order.  Takes so long to get their attention; it's frustrating and annoying.  My drink was also a waste of money- tasted awful.

Another part of the hotel I want to review is the club.  The DJ was very good, and the dress code entrance was so-so enforced.  But I wasn't thrilled about the $10 cover charge when the place did wind up being packed with women inside.  I get in FREE in Vegas, NY, and LA.  This is BAKERSFIELD!

I know there really isnt a whole lot offered here for nightlife but I'm gonna stick to skipping this place here on out.  Plus, there was some skinny white guy trying to dance up on my friends wearing a profane T-shirt about pussy.  I wanna know who let that guy in???

    Well...wasn't this a nice surprise!!

So the Pixies show was sold out in Santa Cruz and there was NO WAY I was going to miss this show...so the boy and I packed up our stuff for a quick weekend getaway in Bakersfield.

I had NO idea what to expect...but as I always try and stay at boutique hotels, this was the only one I could find in that area and it was 1.5 blocks from The Fox Theater where the Pixies were playing, it seemed like the perfect place.

After just over 4 hours of driving, we made it through downtown and arrived at The Padre Hotel. Interestingly enough, there were some not so savory people hanging around outside (by no fault of the hotel of course) with their southern pride flag (you know the one I mean) beanies on....I was like wow...I am not in the bay area anymore.

But we pulled up...valet guy was not there right away but after we turned the car off and started to get out, he showed up. Asked if we needed help with our bags...we did not but he was all smiles.

I had read on yelp that people had issues finding the front desk...I thought it was rather easy, straight ahead from the front doors. Done.

Girls behind the counter were all smiles. I had emailed them and let them know we would be there a bit before check in and they said that was no problem. They had us initial this long thing about smoking and stuff (not an issue for us) and asked if we wanted coffee service in the AM. I did not realize until later that it cost something...but that was fine. The boy said it was super yummy coffee, so worth it.

We get up to the room, mind you, I did this all on Priceline by naming my own price and saved a good chunk of money off their advertised prices and expected the smallest room they had but they hooked us up with the Corner Pocket room. It was awesome. The windows on 2 sides made it super bright.

The heater was on when we got in, and did not need to be but that was easy enough to turn off.

The bed was covered in a down topper and down comforters (next time, I will ask for no down...as I am allergic ...just makes me itchy) ... but everything was sleek and modern.

Bathroom was huge and shower was beautiful. The little bench in the shower was a bit too short to sit on comfortably for a long time but it was handy for holding all your shower goodies.

My only weird thing was when we first got there and changed into more comfortable clothing...they OPENED THE HOTEL DOOR and walked in...

I guess they did not tell all the staff that we checked in early and they were coming in to check on the room and be sure it was ready.

We were clothed enough, so no big deal but it was a funny/awkward moment. Other guests I am sure would have thrown a fit but meh...I laughed it off.

All in all...the hotel itself was beautiful, Zach (when I called down for super late night room service) was great to talk to....and yeah, it was a good 2 days.

    STAY AWAY.

I have stayed here twice. My work booked the hotel, so I didn't have much choice.  This place is AWFUL. First visit, we checked in late on a saturday night and had to wait for the elevator for all the people going to the club on the 2nd floor. We were supposed to get priority because we were staying at the hotel but the elevator bouncer guy asked if we minded if these other people went first and then didn't wait for an answer and we had to wait for the next elevator.  Normally I wouldn't mind, but it was late and I was tired and just wanted to sleep.

Next, our room.  It looks fancy enough, but the spent money on all the wrong things. I don't give a crap about your Kohler sink if my bed feels like I'm sleeping on a rock. I have never slept in a worse bed. Ever.

That night, my coworker slammed her finger in their shitty bathroom door - it is a sliding door and there is no door handle, just a stopper that keeps it from going off the slider when it gets to the wall.  Well, she slammed her finger between the stopper and the wall. When we called downstairs they could barely hear us because of the rowdy nightclub crowd and then had no idea what the procedures were to handle a guest injury.  There was no manager who knew what to do. She thought she broke her thumb, and their response was "well, our employee didn't break it, did they?" they could care less about her finger that luckily was not actually broken, just badly bruised and sprained.

The people in the room next to ours were drunk and loud and obviously having a party in their room. On my way to get ice one of them made me feel incredibly uncomfortable by his suggestive remarks. We called the desk to ask them about it and they again could care less. They sent someone up and it was marginally better, but the noise from the nightclub four floors below was still in competition with our neighbors.

The second stay, the bed was just as awful. I almost slammed my finger in the stupidly designed bathroom door again. The bed was just as hard as a rock.  We had reserved a room with two beds, but when we checked in they were sold out.  They offered to upgrade us to a suite so there would be room for a rollaway.  (sigh) Fine.

TWO HOURS later the rollaway arrives, and the sweaty smelly man that dropped it off said oh so sorry. We're really busy so all we have is this cot. He put on a bottom sheet and a thin cotton blanket. That is it. No top sheet, nothing. And when I say this was a cot, it was a cot.  It was about 2 inches thick and when you laid on it all you felt was how you might fall through at any minute and the wires from the support sticking through.  AWFUL. Then, our room (again on the 6th floor above the 2nd floor nightclub) clearly had no soundproofing.  I felt like I was trying to go to sleep IN the nightclub. I would have called to complain, but they were apparently sold out and what are they going to do? Shut down a nightclub so I can sleep?

Given an choice, I would not ever ever ever stay here again. THis place is a total dump, has horrible customer service, and only seems to attract people who wish they were in Vegas, but cannot seem to get out of Bakersfield.

Food is good. Service is mediocre at best. Atmosphere is decent when you disregard the inbred, retarded, sagging pants, bro hat, rude dipshits playing pool right next to the table. Even having the nerve to ask if it okay to leave their drinks on our table.
Other than that the place is good.

Worst Hotel expierance ever!!! If u leave your car in Valet check all your belongings especially your seats.... I had my 3rd row seat stolen... On top of everything it's a party hotel so don't expect to sleep well. They don't keep track of people coming in and out of hotel. They had 15 people from Room to room Partying and yelling. Didn't sleep till 230 am and had to be up at 530 am for an event. All they did was give me two coupons for their cafe worth $10 Please think twice before booking just cuz the hotel is rated 4 stars don't think it's actually worth it.

I travel to Bakersfield on a regular basis for work and for the past several months I've been staying at The Padre Hotel.  Others have posted photos and reviews regarding the hotel itself, the rooms, ambiance, etc (which is excellent by the way) so instead of repeating a bunch of stuff everyone else has already said I want to talk about what happened on my last trip when things went all wrong.

When I arrived at the hotel to check in with a business associate of mine we had a reservation for two adjoining rooms.  Not only did they not have two rooms booked for us (they only had one), the room we did have was not the room style requested.  The front desk was able to find us a second room for the night, but it was also not the room style requested and definitely not adjoining considering it was three floors away.  We were also informed that unless there were any cancellations between now and tomorrow, the next night we would have to stay together as there wasn't going to be a second room available for us.

For various personal reasons this was not going to be an option for us but I didn't complain at the desk because I didn't have my reservation confirmation with me and I did make the reservation over the phone.  As far as I know it was an innocent mistake that they heard one room, two beds instead of two rooms.  When I got back to the hotel room I took out my laptop and found the confirmation and sure enough it was for two rooms.  Now that I *knew* they clearly had to have changed my reservation *after* my confirmation was sent I was very upset.  I called down to the front desk and asked for the e-mail address of the General Manager.

I sent an e-mail outlining the problem at 11:45p at night at within 90 minutes... in the middle of the night... I had an e-mail back apologizing for the error and outlined everything he was going to do to make it right.  The next day the hotel sent someone over to pick us up from work during our lunch break to switch rooms into the original rooms we requested - the correct type, on the same floor and adjoining as originally requested.  We spent a wonderful second night at the hotel and was generously financially compensated for the inconvenienced experienced on the first night.

Mistakes happen - people screw up - I can understand that.  It's what people do to apologize for their mistakes and make it right that really matters.  I have never received such wonderful customer service as I did at The Padre this past week.  Even in their mistakes, The Padre is still the best hotel I have ever stayed at.  Period.

If you're traveling to Bakersfield, The Padre is the only place to stay.

I am very torn about sharing one of our favorite getaways with anyone.  That said...

A grown-up weekend getaway to Bakerspatch is one of our very favorite things and The Padre is one of the reasons why.  Get yourself a Corner Pocket room -- around $169 or so -- in this gorgeously, hiply (is that even a word?) updated historic old hotel.  The beds here are the best, most comfortable and welcoming I've ever slept in and The Mister concurs with me on that. These beds are so luxurious that it is hard to jump out of them to enjoy all the funky, mid-century California style pleasures Bakersfield has to offer. The standard rooms are great too, all the luxury of the larger rooms -- great beds, flat screen tv, wifi and beautifully appointed bathrooms.  If you are there on a weekend night, stay on the upper floors so the party noise in the lobby won't disturb you. The staff is wonderful -- everyone who works here works hard to make your experience a great one.

Some of the best restaurants in Bako are right downstairs in the lobby.  The Belvedere is fanciest, the food marvelous.  The Brimstone (great name!) bar menu is broad and affordable and the bar atmosphere is fun. Lots of local politicos eat lunch and meet there for after-work drinks.  There is also a great cappuccino/dessert bar, that is open late.

There are a ton of great antique, vintage, junk and thrift stores within walking distance of The Padre and there are lots of legendary Basque restaurants all over Bako (our favorite is Wool Growers).  For a wonderful dive bar (with an epic neon sign) that hasn't been gentrified, check out Guthrie's Black Cat -- time will stop and everyone will grow silent when you walk in, but the locals warm up quickly.   A favorite Bako experience for music and old-school hearty American food is Buck Owen's Crystal Palace, cradle of the Bakersfield Sound.  They serve Sunday brunch, too.

Don't miss the "first Friday" art crawls downtown.  The Metro Gallery (also walking distance from The Padre) has a stable of unexpectedly sophisticated artists from all over California.

Our weekends in Bakersfield are a kids-free getaway becauseThe Padre in Bakersfield is an unexpectedly romantic destination!

So amazing!! I am so appreciative of their generosity and sincere hospitality. Highly recommend this place!! Thx again!! Great wine selections and amazing service.

This is for the rooftop bar only...

We were so excited to find this place while traveling - it seemed like a gem!  It was a perfect, lovely evening and we followed the sound of live (excellent!) music on a Wednesday night.  We were informed upon arrival that we could seat ourselves.  Bar was full (lots of games on), and the tables were pretty well filled up.  We ended up at a high top near the band.  Sat... and waited... and waited... and waited... I finally got the attention of a little dude running around and asked for a menu.  So he literally brought me A menu.  No worries, I can share.

So we finally get a young, cute waitress who takes our order and brings us some beers - which were, of course, 5 stars because they're beers.

She recommends a couple of things on the menu which we order.  Flatbread of the day (boring... tasted like dough).  Seared Ahi (excellent, but small).  And one other thing that was obviously very forgettable, as I can't even remember what it was.

Overall, the service here is what drags down the experience.  And you really have to do a lot wrong to ruin the ambiance - this place has a lot going for it.  I'll try every other place in Bakersfield before I come back here, but I'm really bummed about it!

I'm surprised there aren't more mentions of the bathrooms in the other reviews.

I don't know if this is the case for all of The Padre's rooms, but in our room the wall between the shower and the rest of the room was glass.  This allowed you to see the entire bathroom from the bed ("for an extra special wink!" according to the hotel's press kit).  There's a translucent privacy curtain, but it's only somewhat effective.

Because of this bathroom layout, I can highly recommend The Padre for some very specific situations.  For example, if you have a crush on your travelling companion, but you have no idea how you'll ever get to see them naked because they've got you in the friends zone while they chase that jerk Henry (whose ass is nothing special, despite what your friends say), then definitely consider surprising them with a stay here.  When they turn around in the shower and see you seeing them for the first time, make sure to give them the aforementioned "extra special wink".

On the other hand, the therapy that you'll need after seeing your travelling companion making their Number Two face on the toilet could get pretty expensive, so factor that in as well when deciding whether to stay here.

Seriously, The Padre's funky decor and accommodations make it a more fun and novel place to stay compared to comparably priced chain hotels.  Just make sure to go on a refreshing constitutional, or pay *really* close attention to whatever's on TV, while your companion's doing their thing in the bathroom.

I know what you're thinking, WTF are you doing in Bakersfield???? Well an obligation required me to spend an evening in Bakersfield, CA. If was fully expecting to have to stay in some run down Ramada or Super8 because let's face it, Bakersfield is not the most extravagant city in California but you fellow Yelper's hooked me up. I read the reviews and checked out the Padre site and it looked like the real deal. Prices were great so I booked the "Head Honcho Suite" as it is named on their site, which is their second largest room for $200 lol, I woukd have paid double that for the same room in Chicago or triple that in LA. When I arrived I was very impressed with the hotel. Beautiful decor and a hotel lobby bar/lounge that was already jammim at 6:00pm.  check in was painless and when I got to my room I was very impressed, looked better than the photos online..

I dropped off my bags and headed back down to the bar for a drink, that is when the bar tender informed me that they have an outdoor rooftop patio bar. I finished my drink and waited for my friends I was meeting to arrive and then headed to the rooftop, it was, comfortable and they were playing great music.

If your travels ever bring you to Bakersfield make sure you stay at the Padre, I know I will.

In the course of the last few years I have stayed and dined at The Padre on several different occasions and I have never had a bad experience until this weekend. Normally, the service is impeccable and the food is delicious, but I was extremely disappointed this weekend.

We woke up Sunday morning and went down to the Brimstone to eat. We found a table and waited 15 minutes while several members of the wait staff walked right past us without offering us a menu or drinks. I had to get up and walk around in order to find someone to bring us menus. After we got our menus things got better as our waitress was very quick in getting our drinks and keeping them refilled. However, when the food came out it all went downhill again. My boyfriend and I both ordered our burgers medium-rare, but what we ended up getting was very rare. Normally, I am not one to complain about red meat and how it is cooked. I know that if I order something medium rare it will come out with some pink/red in it and that is what I expect to get, but both of our burgers were red all the way through. I managed to wave down the manager and explained to him that I believed my burger was under cooked and he said he would fix it for me. At this point, my boyfriend hadn't taken a bite of his yet and didn't realize that his was also under cooked. It took around 10-15 minutes for me to get my food back and when I did I was disappointed to find that they had taken my original burger and just stuck it in the microwave. I knew this was the case because I had cut it in half and taken a bite of it before I sent it back and the one I received back was cut in half and had a bite missing out of it. My bun was hard as a rock as a result of being stuck in the microwave and my pickle was warm. The burger patty ended up crumbling into pieces and I ended up not even being able to eat the burger. My boyfriends burger was also under cooked, but he did not want to wait another 10-15 minutes to have his stuck in the microwave and so he was unable to eat his as well.

I understand that it was a Sunday morning and that they are a busy establishment and accidents/mistakes happen. However, I ended up paying $40 for a meal that we didn't eat and the manager was completely unapologetic about it and acted as though we were inconveniencing him.

I will return to The Padre again because it is a great place to stay and dine. However, I hope they keep a close eye on their staff so that the service does not continue to go down hill in the future.

    A hidden gem in Bakersfield!!

Who knew Bakersfield could have a Las Vegas type of hotel in its midst? My review is mainly on the interior lobby and the rooftop bar.

I saw the red neon sign on top of the building and automatically thought "okay, this place is probably older than I am." However, when I walked in, I saw the lobby and decor that would rival those of some hotels in Las Vegas. Yes, the lobby was smaller than other hotels, but it was so chic and a stunning surprise from what I thought I was going to walk into. It had a nice modern feel. I was impressed.

We went upstairs to the 5th floor to find a rooftop bar. Now this is what I'm talking about. There was a beautiful gas fireplace, a bar with multiple television screens, and lights strung from everywhere. People were chatting and mingling with their drinks. Plenty of tables to go around and heat lamps for those chilly nights. There were three bartenders and they knew their stuff. I didn't need to explain what a Tokyo ice tea was. That to me shows that you deserve a good tip. hehe This place was a nice ending to a great evening.

Again, can I say I was shocked? Really? Bakersfield, you surprise me sometimes.

I can't tell you how annoyed I was when I called the Padre for a reservation on a recent trip to Bakersfield, only to find out they were booked up.  Stupid me.  Of course they were booked up.  This place is awesome!  So this review is based on my earlier stay.

For about the same price as your typical mediocre chain hotel, the Padre offers recently renovated modern, weird, comfy, sexy hotel rooms.  Even the freaking soaps and stuff in the bathroom were sexy.  What is with that?  Just to be sure, I reached out and touched the black bathroom tile in the shower that looked like wallpaper.  It was tile.  I wish it was closer or...in San Diego.  I would go out of my way to stay here.

The place is chock full of good food options for all hours of the day.  The lobby restaurants are PACKED at lunch and at night.

The only weird thing about my stay was the wake up call.  I got an automated call.  Then a live-person call.  Then a live-person door knock.  Within about a minute.  I guess they don't screw around.  No oversleeping in Bakersfield.

We ate in the bar - OMG order the steak with herb butter.  This is not bar food. Outstanding!

My only wish is that I would have ordered the steak for myself rather than insisting my wife order it for herself. My fish and chips were great but she got the better end of the deal.

This downtown historic (1928) hotel is beautifully remodeled and is a hot spot for Bakersfield young professional nightlife with 3 classy bars on site and 3 restaurants. We ordered great nachos and a couple of glasses of wine on the rooftop bar--comfortably cooled by misters all around the perimeter.  They also have plenty of propane heaters for cooler nights during winter.  Rooms are lavishly decorated, with the sexy touch of a see-through glass backed stone tiled shower (modesty curtains provided if you want them).  It might not be ideal for families, but for a romantic weekend night it was awesome.  Other plusses here are:  over-the-top employee warmth, opulent lobby, flattering side lighting in bathrooms, cushy duvet bedding, free internet, iPod speaker alarm clock, $3 giant bottles of Icelandic water in the room, waived night club cover charge for hotel guests, very nice shampoo/soap collection, good house wine (we had Hesse cabernet) and large wine glasses.  We were driving from San Francisco back to Texas and will definitely consider planning our next drive out West to stop at the Padre Hotel again. It was a fun surprise at the end of a long day of driving.

What can I say but exceptional. This is by far one of the best hotels I've stayed in and I have traveled quite a bit. The decor is a blend of vintage and modern. The visuals will leave you breathless. My room was amazing, some minor things here and there that weren't up to par, but overall it was a 10. It was spacious, well appointed and had a very cool tub/jacuzzi. You have to love how the water flows in! First time coming to the Padre. We had to sit up stairs on the outside patio which was fine. Had to wait a while to have a waitress come by and get our drinks, not to mention another long wait to take our food order all the while she was helping and serving customers that had came after us. Even the ones who had just sat down. Wtf is up with that? The dollar tacos were tasty yet dripping with grease. They only give you one corn tortilla per taco which to me seems cheap. Most restaurants i go to for taco Tuesday have more meat and add cheese and salsa, not just meat and onions. Did i mention the grease? And the real kicker... $7 for a budlight. Are you kidding me? I know this is supposed to be a fancy place but come on... Budlight is budlight... Not a glass of wine or champaign. Will not be  back to give it a second chance. But as always this is my opinion so if you want to check it out... Check it out... On a payday. Lol

Ate at the Belvedere. The Burrata cheese plate was good. The steaks were ENORMOUS, which is uncharacteristic of a fine dining restaurant, and too salty (I had it rubbed and cooked the 'Padre way.') The mashed potatoes were too salty as well. The vegetables were just a bit too al dente. The presentation on everything was nice tho.  Excellent service I must say. The best part of the meal was the braised short ribs. Yup, those were tha shit :)

I'd go here again tho and try something else.

I'll try to keep this short. For everyone that is giving this place a bad review...you're crazy! this was one of the best hotels I've ver stayed in. Lets start by saying that check in is at 4, but i got to Bakersfield at noon and the hotel let me check in 4 hrs early with a perfectly clean and ready room. I thought parking was going to suck but the $10 it cost for valet is well worth it. You get the service for two full days and they were the nicest valet people i have every met. The room was cleaner then i had ever see a hotel room and it was very beautiful and spacious. We stayed over the second floor rooftop which closed at 4 so the night was fine. I could see if you wanted to go to bed early and you got that room on a Friday when it was open later and wasn't satisfied with that. But for their defense, they asked if i wanted that room before i even checked in. The fact that they gave me the option before hand was great. All the staff that i came across was wonderful. The Bar/restaurant they have is amazing. The staff were great, food was bad prices and drinks were spot of. My lady and i had a wonderful salmon meal there. It was one of the most delicious pieces of salmon I've ever had, so hats off to the chefs. Breakfast in the AM was wonderful. Prices weren't bad and they had a good variety. Overall it was the best hotel stay I've ever had, especially at only $109 a night for the room we had. We will definitely return for our next spur of the moment getaway.

The hotel had a very nice clean and modern look. The rooms were more than exceptional for the price. Check-in and out was a very easy as well.

My only complaint was the valet service. When I received my car the next morning from valet it was very apparent my car had been gone through, things misplaced and my makeup bag open with makeup all over my passenger seat. I called the hotel to inform them of my frustration and was informed they would tell management when they arrived. To my surprise,I never received a call from management regarding my experience. I definitely expected better customer service.

Unfortunately, I will probably never stay here again, which is a bummer because the hotel is beautiful.

The padre hotel is awesome. The rooms are nice and updated. The brimstone bar in the lobby is great. The belvedere room is a high class restaurant with great food. I really like this hotel, especially for Bakersfield. I would have given it five stars but I had a couple minor gripes. I made a wake up call that I didn't get, when I checked in my room it hadn't been serviced by room service yet and they never replaced the bottles of water in my room after a week. Not big deals but should be simple services.

All right, I'll give them an extra star.  One bad experience isn't enough to justify the 3-star review.  I went again last night for Taco Tuesday and sat at the bar.  The noise level was perfect, the bartender was friendly and attentive, and the tacos were, as usual, awesome.  I got away with a $6 dinner (three $1 tacos and a $2 Dos Equis + tax), can't beat that!

In general, the Padre is a nice establishment.  I'm not really a fan of the night life in Bakersfield, so I avoid coming here on the weekends like the plague.  However, for a casual and cheap Tuesday night dinner, heck yes.

    A tale of two adventures.
    1. The Hotel: Right off the bat the counter service was excellent. The bellman was polite and helpful. The rooms are clean, fresh, modern and fun. The hotel is the about the best dam thing in Bakersfield. Definitely worth the $90 to stay, This hotel experience in San Luis Obispo would easily cost four times as much.
    2. The Restaurant: The day waitress was great and the food was prompt and delicious. However the night service for our stay was a joke. Both servers stood in the corner hiding and talking. I had to go the bar to get a menu then go back up to the bar to order while the server flirted with a different table. Super lame, the food came out crazy slow but was good. They ended up discounting the food but still lame.
    Hotel =YES!
    Restaurant = Meh.

I'm not one to post about hotels, but this was a noteworthy review.

This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside it's beautiful and inside the rooms even more beautiful.

I wasn't expecting much for Bakersfield and I was on my way home from a long trip.

It definitely was a nice experience to be able to jump in a huge comfy bed and a clean upscale hotel room.

I recommend this place to anyone. Spend a few more bucks and enjoy a wonderful night stay in a classy modern hotel.

Although I am still a consumer to this establishment, I have had many bad experiences here. I've had to get mine and my guest Entire check comped at brimstone because of the embarrassing situation. I also had a problem booking an event.. Management kept communication minimal and never resolved the issue. Regardless I go back for craft beer, bottomless mimosas, and a nice setting that is well lit. The pool table is a plus. Is give 4 stars if it wasn't for my experiences. Also service may be slow considering they only have 1 server staffed at times.

As others have said, this is a great boutique hotel. I was greeted promptly at the front desk by 2 clerks. Both very nice, chatted with me since this was my first time here. I got room 402. The room was clean, had a nice flat screen TV, the linens were soft but the best surprise was that glass wall shower!  Did not expect at all.  They have the same type of shower at Grand Del Mar in San Diego.  The only thing that tripped me up was the parking. I couldn't find the valet!  But when I did, it was fine.  Suggest better signage.  Had dinner at the Belverdere, it was delightful. Will write a separate review for restaurant.  Had breakfast at the Farmacy Cafe, again, very nice both in service & quality of food. I will return.

We had Excellent  service at a cocktail party we hosted in the Belvedere.  Our party was appx. 120 people.   Everybody had a great time and loved the venue, very classy. The hot and cold appetizers were great.  Everyone loved the Sliders and the Mini Crab-cakes . We had an open bar - good bartender, good variety of wines, beers, and top shelf was available for or guests. The servers were very good at taking care if our guests. We had a band and Padre set up a dance floor for us.  The drapes at the doorway, entering the area, were pulled closed to allow for privacy.
@@Only downfall - uninvited people tried to slip in for drinks from our open bar.  I suggest using a unique guest lapel pin or drink tickets to keep out the uninvited.
I will definitely consider The Padre the next time we host a similar function.

This used to be just a wonderful place to eat dinner in the downtown area of Bakersfield. The service sitting at the bar in Brimstone could be better. Some of the bartenders think it's more important to talk amongst each other. The servers in Brimstone have a wonderful attitude. Alway so friendly.

Now the food. It used to be so good. I'm not sure what has happened but some of the changes management has made were not for the best. The fries a terrible, I miss the flatbread constantly changing. Whatever happened to if it ain't broke don't fix it!

    Bakersfield???????? I KNOW.... But:

This is a beautiful surprise in the heart of Bakersfield. Perfect Service, Amazing Food and beautiful modern and CLEAN hotel. Signature services provided here are top of the industry standard. I have been in the Hotel industry for 10 years at Napa Valley where you pay up to $900 per night but this place keeps amazing me every time for only $150 a night. I will always be back to this hotel I can recommend it to anyone but NOT MUCH TO DO IN THE TOWN but you don't really need to go anywhere else. Amazing food, wines and place you have it all in this stunning place.

You can have a great lunch by the bar, dinner outdoors or at their beautiful spacious dining room.

ENOUGH SAID! If you ever think of going to Bakersfield don't go anywhere else this is your place.

    Enjoy!

Late night dining on the patio?  Sure, if you don't mind being solicited every five minutes by someone with a hard luck story.

There is a lodging across the street where you can admire the 75 year old dude hanging out in his underwear.

The Gluten Free options are horrid.  The charged a 5 dollar fee to change from fries to veggies.  The tables were filthy and had left over food and bird droppings on them.  But at least they brought my dog water.

If you want a nice evening out on the patio I strongly suggest going elsewhere.

My boyfriend, a friend and I came here for a drink before a wedding service and really had horrible service. The bartender was obviously hungover and blatantly had no care for the service she was giving. We literally ordered drinks and she went straight to her phone to text, then to was dishes, and back to ask "oh, what did you order again?" I have worked in the restaurant industry for 6 years and completely understand what it means to be busy and hectic--but she was anything but that. She just didn't care. Saturday may not be the best shift, but it's what you were dealt with so maybe you should make the most of it.

The food on the other hand was decent. I had shrimp cocktail which was tasty, not so much shrimp but came with nice dipping crackers. My friend had the sliders were good, but came almost well done when he asked for close to rare.

We expected more for one of the nicest places in Bakersfield. Hoping it's the exception and not the rule.

Such a fabulous hotel! We actually live in Bakersfield, but try to stay @ the Padre every so often, just to enjoy the lovely amenities. Staff is always top notch (I don't think we ever had to open a door or push the elevator button, because there was always someone on staff waiting to do it for us).  The rooms are super clean & decorated very modern/hip. The beds are so comfortable that you NEVER want to leave the room & the showers are amazing! Both bars are great, but we love Prairie Fire for its roof-top ambiance.

The rooms are laid out nicely with a cool modern decor. This is probably my favorite hotel in Bakersfield . The rooms have a comfortable beds with Maybe a real good pillow top idk because I've never pulled the sheets back. There is room enough to do some work in the room on the desk under the tv which is a 42" or so flat tv. The weird thing is the shower that just kinda blends into the bathroom floor and floods... Strange. The downstairs bar is cool and has had a great crowd every time I've been there and the food is good, but more like higher end appetizer type dishes. I haven't eaten at the restaurant yet but it looks great . The outdoor lounge on the roof deck is a great place to hang out on for killer evening, but it's not always open.

Valet was quick & Check-in was a breeze.  Got a room on the 4th floor, and it was spacious, modern, and luxe.

The bed was a queen and it was very comfy, and you simply sink into it.  I had requested hypoallergenic pillows and it was provided as expected.

The bathroom seemed a bit manly to me in design, but I like it.  The amenities are great, and the shower pressure is perfect.  No tub in my room.

I'll be checking out the bar and the cafe tomorrow, but I think I'll be impressed with their food and service.  I heard from a co-worker who has stayed here in the past that their in-house cafe and bar is great.

Okay...I'm updating my review.  After lots of calling and my mom (who lives locally) went down in person to try to retrieve the items I left, they actually got returned.  Apparently someone had mis-tagged them as coming from the wrong room.  So they're not thieves, but they definitely could have done a better job from the beginning.

Why, you may ask, am I giving them 4 stars instead of 3 since they were so bad about getting back to me...well, because it turns out I left something else INCREDIBLY valuable in the room, and I didn't even know it!  They returned this item as well, and my jaw dropped.  Since I hadn't mentioned this item as one of the missing items, they could easily have pocketed it, but they didn't.  It seems the items truly were just misplaced.  As such...I do highly recommend this beautiful hotel for your stays in an otherwise ordinary town.

Very nice comfy beds. Unique decorations. The wagyu burger I got rocked. They know their  way around a kitchen.
I am handicapped, so we got an ADA room which basically was a bathroom with hold bars and a walk in  shower. Again, nice decorations, but the hand held shower head was mounted high and left very short for anyone sitting on the bench.  The shower had adequate draining however the shower had a division that divided off the rest of the bathroom, If the water over spills this division, the bathroom side has no drain and so the floor stays wet.  This is not safe for me as I need my crutches to walk and with the floor wet, is dangerous.
Service was great, the matre'd were on the spot to carry our luggage.

The Padre also happens to be the town meat market, they have an indoor bar and an outdoor lounge.  Do not get a room on the north or northwest side as you will experience the noise of the lounge that is open util 2 am.

They were so accommodating! My boyfriend had to tend to a looong conference call and our room wasnt ready yet, so Zachary I believe his name was set us up in a conference room and came and got us when our suite was ready. He was texting us with updates and catered to our every need in regards to grabbing our luggage and keeping the champagne coming!

They don't have a pool, valet parking is 10$ and there is a ton of public parking, you must have a room key to access floors above level 2, great bar, great meeting and conference spaces, and it is said to be haunted! What more could you want?! :)

This is an older mid-rise hotel right in downtown Bakersfield which seemed pretty lively.  It beautifully and stylishly renovated with very nice fixtures and finishes, and our room with two double beds was quite large.  The room was very clean.  There is a very good restaurant/pub on the first floor of the hotel which was quite lively on a Friday night.  For me the hotel distinguished itself because all the staff were very friendly and helpful, extending themselves beyond what I would have expected.  I highly recommend this hotel.

I valet parked my car for lunch, when I got it back my iPad was missing.  The response of the hotel GM - the valet ticket says we are not responsible.  Didn't even care that their employees are using their position as a valet to steal.  I suppose I don't have concrete evidence, but it was in the car when it was dropped off and not in the car when i returned to my office.  There aren't too many possible scenarios where the iPad disappears if it wasn't the valet.

What a great find. The Padre's rooms are spacious and modern and surprisingly affordable. Our stay was $104 for a very nicely appointed room on the 8th floor. The bed seemed to be a Tempura-Pedic type mattress which was very comfy. My only complaint is that there was only a shower and I enjoy my long tub soaks.

Breakfast at Brimstone was wonderful as was our visit to Prairie Fire, an outdoor bar on the 2nd flood.

My wife and I use this place as our "staycation" getaway when we need a nice evening out but can't or don't want to go out of town.  We stay in the "Head Honcho" suite, which we love because it has a living room area (I'm a night owl and pre-dawn riser) and an exceptionally romantic bedroom suite with a Jacuzzi tub.

The room is very spacious for a couple or a pampered lone traveler.  There's a stocked wet bar with some really nice liquors, spirits and chilled hard and soft drinks.  There are two nicely sized flat screen TV's so you can watch from the couch in the sitting room, from bed or even the tub.

The bedroom has a wonderfully comfortable king with a gorgeous button-leather grand headboard.  Next to the bed, literally two steps, is an oversized Jacuzzi tub with an in-ceiling fountain faucet spout.  I'm 6'4" / 250 and can lose myself in it.  A huge walk in glass shower with a bench and frosted glass window that faces a window so you can get great light.  The rest of the bathroom is equally refined and comfortable.

The staff was, as always, extremely accommodating.  I call the front desk at least two or three times a day for one thing or the other and they always act as if they're happy I called.  The valet and housekeeping staff are always prompt and courteous.  You need keycards to access the upper floors - not Fort Knox but keeps people from wandering up.

My only gripes are about minutia - not worthy of a star "ding", just things to be aware of:

    - Plugs are hard to find.  This is true in almost every hotel, so it's not a "Padre problem", just may want to pack an extra power strip or plug multiplier.

    - The club downstairs is LOUD when it's hopping.  The Padre has all kinds of disclaimers, so you would kinda have to be really careless to accidentally end up surprised by the noise.  Don't worry, they work really hard to get you in a room away from the club if you ask.

    - No ATM on property.  This one I was not happy about.  The main reason?  I like having tip money for the staff!  They are great and work really hard to make you feel like a boss - they deserve good tips and I ran out of cash to give them!

I can't say enough nice things about The Padre.  The prices are even competitive with lower quality hotels - even the Jacuzzi suite reviewed above has been under $200 a night each time I stayed.  Best hotel in Bakersfield, hands down.

Great hotel, small number of rooms, but its nice. Well appointed rooms, decent room service, beds are comfortable. The bar has great drinks, the Belvedere has good food for a fine dining experience, one of the best in Bakersfield but still not near the quality you'd find in a large city like San Francisco or Los Angeles. The café has great brunch as well. A bonus is the bar carries Bowens Whiskey. Great stuff! Downside is the bar is way too crowded on the weekend with the lame and wanna be fabulous, so its not a place to have a great drink. Just be seen and watch the fights. I'll go again in the future, but avoid the bar on the weekend.

Went on a Saturday night and music was horrendous and wasn't accepting requests. It was the house music that nobody listens to. Only had about 3 people on the dance floor and it cost $10 to go in. Only stayed for about 10 minutes until we realized the music wasn't getting any better. Told the manager George about our terrible experience and he just blamed the person above him and didn't even try to make our experience better in the moment. Will never frequent this place again. I usually get the Padre Breakfast..  pretty standard. My husband ordered the Elvis breakfast and really enjoyed it. 2. The rooms have a cabinet for the fridge but no fridge. .where am I supposed to store my food left overs
    3. This is a pet friendly hotel. But the nearest grass spot is about 1 block away
    4. When we checked in we were given a room that was right above there party/club area on the second floor. It was way too noisy. They should seriously consider sound proofing those external walls
    5. Would be great to have a pool or spa
    6. Be prepared to pay $10 a night for parking. But there is a free parking garage across the street
    7. The bathroom lighting is so dim

Great place to stay and relax in Bakersfield. Great service by the front desk and Valet. You can never leave and enjoy the down stairs bar with friends or the roof top club.

This is a must stay location for anyone visiting Bakersfield.

If you need to stay in Bakersfield, stay here.  Fancy hotel in the middle of town with several restaurants, Dos Equies on tap, and a kick ass antique/vintage store across the street.  The beds are incredible, just like everyone says, and the rooms are plush in many other ways, too:  iHome speaker systems, nice toiletries, fancy tile and big windows and ... get ready ... see-through shower.   Like, you're standing in the shower and you can see the bed.  Or, you're in bed and you can see the person showering (unless you close the curtain, if you're chaste like that.)  Hot.  One word of warning:  don't show up late and hungry, the kitchen closes at 10pm.   But the bar is open till 1pm.

Reminded me very much of  the similarly-restored Citizen Hotel in Sacramento. If you like one, you'll like the other.

As I sit here at the Padre, I am pissed off that my experience at this cool, stylish, much needed in downtown, realistically 5 star property has to be downgraded to a four star. Here's why:

    1) Breakfast at the Brimstone Bar. The coffee is exceptional (sourced from the Farmacy on-site coffee house) But I'm a complete breakfast whore. My needs aren't grand, but I have my standards. I'm pissed that my Baja Omelete was totally effed up without explanation. Instead of pepper jack, pico de gallo and avocado, I was served cheddar, a few tomatoes and no avocado. God damn...at least don't forget the focal point ingredient avo or at least cop to the error slash shortage whatever. Where's my avocado?!?

    2) Parking. Friggin PARKING! Truth be told, 60% of this isn't Padre's fault, but I can't stand valet parking, especially if the net experience is worse than if I did it myself. I'm sorry, but if I'm paying $10 per night plus tip, when I'm ready for my car and late for a meeting, I want my car front and center chopitty-chop. Problem is, the City of Bakersfield has basically outlawed overnight street parking, which of course puts more windfall business on the hotel parking as well as increased pressure to perform. This Sunday morning, it all fell apart, and I wasn't impressed. Perhaps valet should be included for hotel guests. If there really is zero street parking, just build it in to the hotel room prices. Then the hotel would seem more like a savior in the barren "no parking" wasteland of downtown Bakersfield.

Finally, there was no refrigerator. Worse- there was only a hole under the counter where there was once a fridge.

Thank you Padre for making the last over night stay of our road trip delightful. From the valet parking, the bar, the most comfortable bed and pillows....oh yeah, the pillows! The beautifully decorated building, modern and classy furnishings, excellent breakfast, fuel-injected coffee to the friendly staff. You are a gem in a place most people just pass quickly by. The deal we got by booking online surpassed our expectations.

This place is the best! A little gem in the heart of Bakersfield!

I've stayed here twice and I will definitely stay here again. The energy of the place is off the charts! The hotel is gorgeous, open and bright and the staff is delightful!

    Highlights:
    -Convenient Valet Parking
-BEST BEDS EVER!!! Cannot say enough about how comfy they are
    - Nice little cafe attached
-Great food at the bar (haven't tried their official restaurant, but the menu looks yummy too!)
-DJ and dancing up in the club on Friday nights
    -Pretty little outdoor bar upstairs
-Awesome staff - everyone from the Bellboy to check in to restaurant staff. Super!

TIP: Ask for a quiet room. The first time I stayed on the 2nd floor (which is where the outdoor bar is located and there were loud (drunk!) people noises all night. The 2nd time I stayed on the 5th floor and there was perfect silence.

Yes yes yes, do it! Go to the Padre. Want a value 4-5 star experience in warm weather and in a remote place? Go to the Padre!

The rooms are modern, the beds comfy, the decor lush, and I can't complain about the service. There's a few eating areas that serve the same menu, but the cafe on the first floor serves adult coffee.

Cool. Just cool. Like a dude wearing sunglasses inside cool.
There's lots of little lame things that are annoying like the valet service, which is normally more jammed up than a.......... well you know........ And the ridiculously slow elevators, which there are only 2 of. the lack of restrooms on the first floor. the overzealous security staff at the front entrance on "club night" friday night when you're trying to check into the hotel. the ONLY hotel in the world that still uses a "do not disturb" and "please make room up" door hanger that causes housekeeping to knock on your door at 7 am.

but the cool factor......... the beds are heaven. they feel like how you think sex feels. the bathrooms are cool, with the see through glass wall shower. the tv's are clear and the storage is adequate. the temp control is awesome. the ambience is warm and hip and sultry. it's just a frickin bomb hotel.

but don't forget it's in Bakersfield.

and Bakersfield is kind of a craphole city.

i'm sure some Bakersfieldian will get pissy i called their city a craphole, but i call it like i see it.

Remodeled 1920's Hotel that has been transformed into the hippest boutique hotel in the Central Valley. Couldn't figure out what to do on New Years Eve and stumbled onto the Padre while searching for venues.

Don't let the area or the outside fool you. It's like walking into a 5 star property. It has been gorgeously remodeled.

Everything tip top. Valet quick. Check in quick. Room immaculate for the price. 4 themed New Years Eve parties going at the same time. In the same hotel mind you!! New Years Eve welcome kit with champagne, chocolate dipped strawberries, and a recovery kit for the next day with sodas water energy drinks cookies baked goods and alka seltzer. first time here. did not want to have to drive anywhere while drinking. perfect spot.

Make sure and get a Maverick room or higher because the 40 winks rooms have a glass wall between the bedroom and bathroom with only a sheer curtain for privacy.

I think I found my new hotel for Bakersfield.

I can't say I have a single complaint about this establishment. I checked in for my first stay. The padre is beautiful! All the employees are courteous and pleasant from the valet staff the the front desk staff. My room was spacious with a view over downtown and the other view of the patio bar of which is also fantastic.  The price range was higher than what I consider appropriate for a night on the town which I happen to reside in,  but hey you get what you pay for. My only regret was not checking this place out sooner. You can eat there, you can party there, and you can relax and enjoy alone time for a night or two. Thanks for an awesome evening Padre staff!

    What I Loved:
    - Updated 1928 hotel
    - Modern
    - Chic
    - Great 2nd floor outdoor bar; great lighting and fire ambiance.
    - It's a pretty great 4.3 star hotel in Bakersfield--so I'm bouncing it to 5.0.

    What I Didn't"
    - Returned from dinner at 9:15pm and it was pretty quiet (Wed night in Bako, go figure)
    - Staff was uneven.  One of the valets (a black guy about 25 was really on it with info and service).  Others were in the dark; wasn't given a "lay of the land" on check in.
    - Water sitch.  No filtered water in the lobby for refiling water bottles.

Awesome place to stay while visiting Bakersfield. I'd give it a five star review but a few flubs with the room key and accessing the free wifi (never got it to work) prevented this from being a prefect visit. I was in "The Maverick" on the eighth floor which helped cut down on the noise from the party going on downstairs on the patio. Friday and Saturday nights are exciting because all of the bars and restaurants on the first two floors are packed with locals stopping by to enjoy the local nightlife. Pretty cool little spot in the heart of downtown Bakersfield. Highly recommended.

Padre is a hotel but for most of the locals it's a bar, club, rooftop patio bar as well. It's located downtown Bakersfield, off of H street between TRuxton and 24 street. There is Vallet parking, parking on the streets, or park at a parkade a block est of thew hotel.

Brimstone bar is a very popular place on Saturdays. I was there last week and managed to get a table around 9 pm. Around 10:30 you can barely hear person next to you, it get very loud, not because of music, but because of other people talking. Service is pretty good, and a good place to meet friends.

Across is Latitude lounge, they typically have a DJ, it's a samll dance floor, put if you are in the mood for music its an OK spot. They charge $10 cover sometimes on Saturdays.

My preferred spot is rooftop (2nd floor outdoor lounge). Not as loud as Brimstone, open to the sky, not much of a view around, but nice place overall.

Have not been to the belvedere restaurant but here it is expensive but good.

Stayed here for my husband's 50th birthday. His mother lives in Bakersfield so we thought it would be nice to go down and see her, plus carry out a few other special plans we made for ourselves that weekend. We made the long drive in his best friend's corvette, more on that later.

The hotel was easy to find. Check in was a breeze. The lobby was nicely decorated & welcoming. While my husband checked in I went to the lobby & ordered a couple of drinks. Was waited on promptly & the drinks were yummy. We took them to our room to get settled in before heading to his mother's house.

The room was nice. A corner room with lots of light. 2 complaints I have: the bed was way to soft and there was no light in the bathroom. Let me assure you there were FOUR light switches in the bathroom, but all were super dim. The brightest light was over the toilet...who wants that at 2am?!? They had a light up make up mirror but ours didn't work. So I sat on the bed to put on my make up....having all those windows helped.

When we first arrived my husband parked the car on the street because we knew we'd be leaving soon. When we returned that evening we decided on valet parking as the safest option. Before handing over the keys my husband asked the young man if he knew how to drive this car...he should have asked if he could park it! Apparently there is a strange thing with the corvette that you have to park it leaving it in reverse. The next morning the car was dead! No one could do anything to help, not even AAA cuz the owner wasn't with us. So we were stuck for about 5 hours as our friend left work, drove home to Hollister to get some special manual key, and drive to Bakersfield. UUUGGGHHH

I will say they manager put us up in a room and we got free room service (YUCK) and a couple drinks from the bar. But a super horrible way to end what was supposed to be a special 50th birthday.

I have to stay in hotels a lot and I wish I could stay in ones like this more often comfort wise. The bed was amazing, and the breakfast was pretty good and delivered promptly. They only had coffee and not Chai, and I recently quit drinking coffee. I was VERY temped to order a latte, but I was good :) The reason it got 4 stars was the neighborhood is kinda scary. We used valet for the car ($10), but forgot things and the valet guy had to go get my car so that I could grab my things. I felt bad and when I realized I forgot another thing I figured it was not worth the effort of having him retrieve my car again (and look like a boozo). I wish I knew how to get good rates on the weekends though $150 is rather steep.

The buildings are iconic but the rooms are out dated with the the Heavenly Bed making it at least a good nights rest. Service is not as responsive as you find at the top Westin's across the country. It is a central downtown CA location but this property could be so much more with some investment.

This was my first time to The Padre. I have always wanted to go, but wasn't exactly sure for what? Drinks? Food? Stay in one of the rooms? I have three kids, so my "going out" nights are either non-existent or revolve around kid-friendly activities.

Then I was invited to the Yelp Launch party at The Padre. To say I was excited is an understatement. I couldn't wait to go.

We arrived there about 7:30 or so. Was immediately in awe of the hotel itself. It's the perfect mix of old meets new. I absolutely love the decor and feel of the hotel. I wanted to just wander around the hotel, and take it all in.

We found the elevator, went up to the second floor outside patio area for the party. Was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance of that, too. Live band, great appetizer's and drinks.

I have zero complaints about the launch party, or The Padre itself. Well, I take that back. I only wish I could have stayed longer!

    Will definitely be back!

Mostly my review will be about the bed in the hotel room because thats all that matters for the rest of my eternity. The. Rest. Of. My. Eternity!

Have you ever imagined sleeping on a cloud of heavenly puff ball softness?
If not- imagine it right now---
THAT IS THE BED AT THE PADRE HOTEL!!
Do yourself a favor and book a room there just for the sleep you will get.

My cousin and I stayed there last Saturday night with intentions of going to dinner and drinks and the club downstairs. The cloud of softness bed had other plans for us. We were sleeping by 10 pm. Apparently these beds are so amazingly perfectly comfortably wonderful that we slept through a bunch of drama that happened in the club that night.

The hotel is very sexy! All glass window shower with a view from the bed. Low lighting. Champange and chocolates offered on the room service menu.
And did I mention THE COMFIEST BED YOU WILL EVER SLEEP ON

ok, there's plenty of review for you to read for this place so i'm just going to get straight to it:

very modern and chic and somewhat cowboyish feel?

great service at the front desk and valet as well (if you're getting in late, you can just park out front and go to the front desk, they'll have someone come out and get your car)

you ever wonder what it feels like to sleep on a cloud? I FOUND IT!!! the BEST BEDS EVER!! i don't know how they do it (i tried looking too and it looks like a very thick memory foam with a memory foam blanket on top?) but it's just what I imagine sleeping on clouds would be like.

For starters, going to the bathroom at 2 pm... on a Saturday... there were NO toilet seat covers. That's gross,  and obviously the cleaning staff was not doing their job.  I also noticed while walking up the stairs there was a huge pile of dirt or some sort of dirt glob in the middle of the stairs... which can easily trigger a fall or slip.  And lastly,  we came for bottomless mimosas.... we arrived at 12:45ish, and the bottomless mimosas ended at 3pm... our server was awesome, but after she left we continously had to re-order our "endless" mimosas at the bar.  This just goes to show people are more dependant on money than actual service.

Staff seemed friendly enough and valet (only 10 dollars more) always had my car ready when I needed it. The beds were super firm and very uncomfortable and the sheets scratchy. You also had to repeatedly insert the key card in the elevator to make it work. The experience overall was okay at best, nothing spectacular and i have no want to ever return or recommend.

Rooftop is classy and nice ambiance for nightlife, fire pit and plenty of seating. Food is pretty good, I've had a quite a few menu items. One down fall would be the club "Prospect", frequently seems like they are trying to reinvent themselves. Lots of rap and very loose dress code, then they go to a super strict code (I couldn't get in wearing Sperry's, a Burberry shirt, and shorts on a 60 degree night). Normally I'd never pay to get into a Bakersfied club but felt like dancing a bit, oh well. Hotel prices are responsible, bar tenders are polite.

A luxury hotel I'd expect to find in LA, far from LA.  Padre hotel is probably best because it is so different from its surroundings; farm country.

The beds are literally what clouds must feel like.  I'm writing this from the desk (who really uses a desk in hotels?) Because if I touch the bed, I'm done for...I'll have the best sleep I ever imagined.

This is purely a review of the hotel, not the Farmacy, Brimstone, nor Belvedere.

    I really enjoy staying here.
Most of the restaurants I enjoy are within walking distance, which is nice.
There is also a church with a bell that plays songs every evening at 6. I could hear it in my room and it made me smile.

The bed is like sleeping on a cloud. Seriously. Maybe a little too soft, but I'd melt into that thing every night. Mmmmm...
I called the front desk. The mattress is by Isoform and I'm considering buying a topper for my bed at home.

The room is chic and fun. There is no refrigerator, which was frustrating.
The halls also have cute oil/country-themed decor. I took a picture of the wallpaper in my hallway and texted it to a friend that got a good laugh from it.

I really like that this is an update of an old building. It's cool and I like the decor. This hotel was done well.

Been staying here for four years.  Generally really nice hotel.  Recently, room rates have shot up over $200 a night, on weeknights.  Oil boom business I guess.  No vacancy on Wednesday night.

Checked in on Thurs.  Room had a strong chemical odor, like way too much carpet powder had been used.  Maintenance was responsive to open windows, but after 2 hours we couldn't take the chem taste in my mouth it was so strong.  Not usually chem sensitive.  New room smelled the same but not as severe.  Was here in July no issue, so something changed for the worse in housekeeping recently.

Ordered room service, 2 dinner items with two staying in the room, got one set of silverware.  Corrected immediately of course, but getting the sense that huge demand is making the place pricey and a little sloppy.  Will think hard about my choices of where to stay next trip back.

I'm not from Bakersfield, but I've been to Padre Hotel one or two times since, sadly, it's kinda the only cool spot to come to. That makes me laugh a little considering the crowd is a little... ehhergm. Anyways, I was actually enjoying myself on the rooftop lounge after a couple of drinks. I came quite early so no one was there yet and by the time 3 hours has passed, it got very packed. Of course. Saturday night. I get it.

I had wanted to check downstairs really quick if there was anything going on so I hop onto the elevator, ride down, take a quick peak and realize there is now a bouncer and  long lines and people everywhere so I decide to go back up, while the elevator doors were still open (so this happened within about 3 seconds), and the bouncer told me I could not go back in.

    What?

I understood the policy and I understood this dude is just doing his job but really? I had been a paying customer for about almost 3 hours already and I can't go back to my friends? Who, by the way, I had no way of reaching because I left my phone with them.

Yes, I know they're simply regulating the amount of people coming in and out, but if someone could have given me a WARNING that if I step into that elevator that I would not be able to get back in, then problem solved right there.

Honestly, I just feel sorry for the ladies I saw in wedding dresses (there were like 3) and woo girls all dressed up in their best outfits... in Bakersfield. Ouch.

    One star for the alcohol.

The way I am assessing this review is taking the location into consideration. Not that there is anything wrong with Bakersfield but I am a Los Angeles native and love traveling and staying in luxury hotels. With that being said I was super shocked to see what an awesome hotel Bakersfield had to offer.

We came here at almost 2 am after unexpectedly needing somewhere to stay for the night. When we got her it was the place to be downstairs at the bar/lounge. Padres is clearly the place to be as far as night life goes. We walked to the check in without reservations and were taken care of and in our room within minutes. I think he upgraded us to a nicer room and we asked for AAA discount which was only $10 off but hey... $10 is $10!  It was $159 per night.

The room is spacious. The bathroom is huge and the bed is super comfortable. We ordered room service in the morning which I think comes from the hotel restaurant Brimstone. I ordered chilaquiles and my boyfriend the Waldorf salad. As soon as the food came my eyes lit up from my food but his salad... Not so much. The chicken was cold and no cheese! (Grrrr). We didn't even touch it and called in to let room service know. They came right up with our credited receipt and took the salad away. The chilaquiles were very good. I would order it again.

Overall: price is OK for hotel considering you don't have any other options and we can super last minute. Accommodations are good. Modern and clean. I would definitely recommend anyone to stay here and would come back of I ever needed a place in Bakersfield again. Also, room service prices are very reasonable and despite the salad my food was great.

Love, love, love the rooms. Very modern with a smidgen old west.  And the bar Resturant area is charming. I would prefer to eat in there over the sit down part of the Resturant.  I had the root beer braised beef with mashed potatoes.  It would have been good.....if they hadn't dumped a bucket of the sauce with my food :^ (.  You couldn't taste anything else but root beer sauce.  More is not always better!    However after dinner they have another two story room, where you can listen to live music. The band was excellent (light Jazz).   So far I've only had one item to eat from here. And it was not so good. Next time I'll try something with no sauce or ask for it on the side.

One of the valet guys told me the story of the hotel having a ghost and went out of his way and took the time to show me the handprint. I didnt see or hear any ghost but i did see the handprint. I had dinner at the hotel and it was great! I also went to a wonderful restaurant across the street named The Mark. This hotel was in a perfect location and not far from most of the bars. I love this addition to Bakersfield. I usually end up at Brimstone, the bar downtstairs. Good drinks and appetizers, non crazy prices. Tap beers come in short and tall sizes. I tried the nachos last night, it had delicious carnitas, cheese and jalapenos and weighed about 2 lbs. Totally up my alley. Only a handful of draft beer selections it looks like, and the cocktails are pretty great too. I've been to the roof top once, and it was beautiful. Can't wait to go back.

After two pleasant experiences, I'm willing to give the Padre another chance. In years past, the revamped Bakersfield institution had atmosphere and quality to spare but HAD THE WORST SERVICE IMAGINABLE in all my years of dining: Inattentive, downright surly and lazy. However - two recent experiences has me changing my tune.

The Belvedere Room on Christmas night was enchanting. Great food and service. I then went on New Year's Day for the brunch. Great food and service. Be aware that our simple brunch with a few glasses of wine tallied over $60. SO, I will return to the Padre - after I win the lottery. If you can afford it, however - go!

The bed.. it swallows your with comfort and relaxation. I slept so well that the next working it was only hard to get up due to its incredible comfort level.

In room dining was one of the best I've ever experienced. The meal was just divine, and I am one of the picky eaters.

Customer service was excellent. Friendly and helpful all around.

Looking forward to another trip to The Padre.

Decorated with love and wit, super clean, hip and cool, the Padre manages to be ultramodern and historical at the same time.  Very polite staff and a bar, restaurant and coffee shop all on the premises. The coffee shop opens up right at 6:00 and offers a very decent cup of coffee. Free Wi-Fi. The room I stayed in was very comfortable with super cozy bedding, plentiful hot water and thirsty towels in the bath. Nice, high quality toiletries

Parking is scarce; they automatically charge a $10 valet fee to your bill so if you don't have a car, make sure you let the staff know. Room service was a bit slow and they mixed up one of my items but were able to fix the problem.

Can I also say that it is very helpful to have the large PADRE HOTEL sign on top of the hotel? As a visitor from out of town, it actually helped me find the hotel!

    Highly recommended.

Was treated to lunch here by one of my colleagues.

    Atmosphere: very classy and modern.

    Service: friendly and accommodating.

Food: a complete dream.  I split a chicken club sandwich with the garlic truffle fries, and

Firstly, the sandwich itself was very nice.  The grilled chicken cutlet was thin and moist, toppings were crunchy and fresh, and the bread was perfectly toasted.

What got me were the truffle fries...they were what dreams are made of.  Beautifully golden fried, tossed with a melange of truffle oil, fresh garlic and herbs and topped with shredded parmesan.  The aioli that comes with the fries is an amazing complement to an already perfect side dish.

I'd return for the fries alone...and to scope out the handsome restaurant manager. ;)

Do not stay here if you want sleep.

First of all, many of the reviews are for the bar and not actually for the hotel, so make sure you read through all of them. This review is for the hotel from someone who is not a local looking to party.

The decor is very modern and overly ostentatious (see the chairs in the lobby) with hints of Western, like the cowgirl at the registration desk and the oil rig wallpaper.

The bedroom, shower and bathroom are beautiful. I love the way they used the sliding door in the bathroom to conserve space. The bathroom lighting, although very flattering,is a little too dark. It should have the option to be brighter. The shower has beautiful custom tile, a seat and a glass wall and door. The body wash (by LATHER) smelled really good of lemongrass.

The water pressure however, was really low.  I had to wait a long time to wash the shampoo and conditioner out of my hair and there was still much left over. Also, the seat in the shower was not angled for drainage, resulting in the formation of a lukewarm puddle, which you can't sit on. Additionally, our towels were not that clean. One of them has a crusty yellow stain, like the kind you'd get from dried up lotion (at least I hope it was lotion).

My biggest issue with the place was the noise from the bar. We were on the fourth floor and apparently on the wrong side of the hotel, because we didn't miss a beat from the music they were playing. Our windows were closed, we had turned on the fan and upped the volume on the tv and still couldn't drown out the bass. We had to wait until 2 am for the bar to close to fall asleep. The least they could do is provide us with ear plugs.

It seems that there is no other place for locals to go to and the bar at this hotel is their main source of income, but if you are running a hotel, then you should consider accommodating all visitors and not just the ones getting drunk.

As decked out as the decor is, the only reason the hotel even gets two stars is because of the great food for in-room dining, specifically the dinner. (Breakfast had too much black pepper.) My compliments to the chef(s).

Bad customer service.  There were supposed to be a block of rooms set aside for people coming out of town-- traveling as much as a whole day to get there.

Calling the hotel, they had no idea about the block of rooms and said they could call back.  They never did.

Looking at other reviews, sounds like the bar/restaurant is the focus and while remodeled, the hotel part doesn't get much attention.

Get the Waffle Truffle Fries! Even if you are not hungry! Do it!
Had wanted to come here for awhile.
    Really, downtown Bako, where else!?
Very classy, nice hotel, good clientele and amazing service.
We only had the fries but all food coming out of the kitchen looked really good!
Prices really good for where you are and what you get!
Wine Wednesdays are in full effect. A bottle from $50 to $200 is half off after 6pm!
Expect lots of wood and loud-ish atmosphere when the place gets busy!
My hubby recommends the Dogfish Head beer on tap and said the temp of the beer was perfect!
Ask for the free wifi password and they will happily give you a card with it on it.

UPDATE - CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD BILL LATER
They took an extra $5 tip from my Visa card once we were good and gone. Why should I bother leaving generous cash tips if this is what happens! And at such a nice place too.
Called the restaurant once the transaction was posted to Visa and was sent to voice mail for my issue. E-mailed them.
Refund issued days later but I will save you the details of the lamest excuse from the manager ever as well as the personal issues of the waitress we had.
Star lost. Don`t DEFRAUD your customers, Padre and company!

The Brimstone restaurant inside the hotel is solid.
I ordered the lasagna & it was delicious and came out fairly quickly. They also have a huuuge selection of beers and the ambiance is pretty cool.
Major shoutout to our server Garvin who had every single beer on the menu memorized and was super funny and friendly!

When I want to go downtown and have some drinks with friends but not get too crazy, I choose this place. The upstairs patio bar area is my favorite but I hate that they don't have a good selection of beers on tap here. Sometimes the bartenders can seem a little pretentious but overall are usually pretty friendly.

This next part is a review I had strictly on St. Patrick's day. I ordered my usual pint of Guinness in the main downstairs bar and I noticed that it had way too much foam. Later I found out that the bartender was pouring it completely wrong as if he didn't care whether or not the drink had too much foam. He was horrible and was just throwing customers ID's at them after he checked them. I thought this was completely unprofessional and frankly, it upset me and the group I was with. If you weren't happy to work on this holiday then you should have called in sick and did something else.

However, the rooms and the hotel overall is beautiful. I've stayed at this hotel a few times and I am never disappointed. The beds are so comfortable as well. I appreciate the decor.

This place has all you could want out of a Hotel, from a haunted hotel, a pretty sweet bar, a coffee shot a  dining experience, a roof top lounge/bar, a night club and beautiful rooms to top it all off. Our Yelp* event was on the second floor roof top lounge ( there are more than 2 floors but the made a little cut out for this lounge/bar area). The catered food was delicious and the bartender knows how to make a mean Vodka Tonic with Lime.

We have stayed here before as well and have tried every thing here except the  restaurant and the night club. We aren't the night club type of people but it looks very nice.

If you are a local to Bako or just visiting for whatever reason I would recommend trying one of the several amenities provided by this wonderful & beautiful remodeled hotel.

I go to Bakersfield once a month for business and the Padre Hotel is my home away from home. The staff always greets me with a warm smile and check in is always a breeze. The rooms are contemporary and spotless. I will compare the bedding to the Four Seasons as they are white, crisp and clean. The bathrooms are spacious, modern and (can't say it enough) clean!! I've stayed in every type of room they have from the Maverick to the Head Honcho and they are all amazing.

The Belvedere restaurant makes me feel like I'm in New York City. Contemporary atmosphere, great menu, excellent service and well priced. I always order what I call the "build a steak." There are several rubs, butters, toppings and sauces that go on the meat. The wide varieties of veggies are also a la carte so you can have whatever you like! The clams are also to die for if you love spicy, yummy dishes.

I've also eaten at the sports bar which is fun and casual. The food is also good and a completely different menu from the restaurant.  There is also a full service coffee bar for those early mornings. So many options in one spot!

My job entails morning television appearances and I'm always afraid I'm going to oversleep. The staff at the Padre has me covered. They always send someone up personally to knock on my door at 3am to make sure I'm never late. That kind of personal attention is priceless!

Arrived very late was promptly greeted by valet. The front desk girls were awesome they were able to find a double queen room for us which was what we were told was not available when initially booked. I think this hotel is more of a party hotel seems popular place to hangout. It was nice that we were accommodated on a higher floor otherwise probably would have been difficult to sleep due to the noise.

In the elevator, on my way to check-out, I had a really nice chat with another hotel guest. We agreed that The Padre Hotel is a randomly wonderful spot in the middle of Bakersfield.

Who would've thought that there'd be such a cosmopolitan oasis in the middle of what used to be a dead zone? Note that I said "used to be" since it's always poppin' at the Padre Hotel. When my colleague and I arrived in the late afternoon on a Thursday, the bar was blasting World Cup and pouring shots for guests. Later that night, the hotel was abuzz, both in the lower level and rooftop lounge. Breakfast bar in the morning was also busy.

And why wouldn't it be? Three restaurants, two bars, rooftop lounge - why would you ever need to leave this gem? Minus the food/drink/entertainment amenities, I would be happy hanging out in my room with a plush bed and very sexy shower. There's cable TV and wifi, too.

Everyone on staff with whom I came in contact, from the valets to the front desk attendants and housekeeping, was soooo nice. Unusually nice. And they were all local young people who seemed genuinely happy with their jobs.

This sounds a bit insane, but I'm genuinely considering coming back on personal time for a little Bakersfield getaway. Stay at the Padre, go to town for some basque food, come back for some bar/lounge action and enjoy a good night's sleep.

Pretty sure the Padre would earn 5-stars no matter the locale. It's just that good!

Bars (2nd floor roof top and indoors main floor)
Alcohol (quite a night life for this farm town turned oil town)
Kilometers (it can seem like many miles, hectars, and hours away from civilization)
Eventful (turns into a club...central valley style)
Relaxing (beds are nice, room wasn't too small..."cozy"...I liked the see thru glass from the toilet/sink area thru the shower, to the Fox Theater sign)
    Sexy (central valley style)
    Funky (eclectic mix of people)
Interesting (listening to strange, drunk women tell you nonsense with so much empathy)
    Exceptions
Likeable (I can see a big, luxury hotel in Bakersfield disappointing...their downtown is more pathetic than Fresnos...this place is very acceptable for crashing)
Drinks (what else are you going to do when you cant sleep in the central valley?)

Stories (people in Bakersfield have them...Bakersfield style)
Unconditional simpleness (its a more honest, genuine world than the LA and Bay areas)
Clean (overall, rooms and the whole place)
Kosher (if you need to crash instead of continuing to drive down the 99, this place will do)
Sweet (There's tricks and treats in all corners of civilization.   Put aside your anti-Bakersfield bias and give it a shot)

Anticipate (louder, younger wildlife at nights if you arrive at night)
Swinging (the crowds here are trying to have biological fun)
Super (this place was a great rest from driving for me, and it was fun talking to people from this area and seeing so many diverse peoples come together.  Most social places in LA and California tend to attract a particular homogenous group.  that sucks...I prefer a salad bar to a melting pot)

My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Belvedere tonight, and had such a wonderful experience that I had to review it immediately. Our server, Orlando was kind and professional, attentive but not looming so 5 stars for him. We started with salads that were perfect considering it is a build-your-own kind of arrangement. Ordered the cheese and tomato starter that was beautifully presented as well as delicious, followed by my 8oz steak with mashed potatoes and the seasonal veggies (turnip, shallots, spinach which was lovely) and my husband had the 16 oz steak with mashed potatoes and wild mushrooms. Both steaks were cooked with the maitre d butter to a perfect medium, and we both essentially cleaned our plates. For desert we were recommended the mango cake with blueberry coulis and were not disappointed. Overall superb meal. The ambiance was sophisticated and romantic- exactly the experience we had hoped for. Thank you for a lovely evening.

When a work trip calls for you stay in the middle of nowhere...this is a haven away from home. The front desk staff to valet were top notch for the area.  The room itself was doable but the walls were paper thin and the walk down the hall to my room was just a little too creepy.  Room service was delivered promptly and the steak frites I ordered were actually pretty good.  Overall, it was a pleasant experience - but I did sleep with the light on as the vibe of the hotel and Bakersfield in general, was borderline creepy for me.

So I hang out in Bakersfield lately. Don't boo. It's pretty awesome. And one of the most awesome parts is this here hotel. It's western chic, and a city girl like me sinks into their amazing beds with glee! If you're coming to town, this is where you should hang your hat!

The service in the bars and restaurants onsite is hit or miss, but the food is great. The rooms are modern and comfy, with all the amenities you could need and again, the beds, OMG! The cheeky cowboy humor really cracks me up too. It's all the fun of the wild west, with an almost burlesque like touch.

I've also had the pleasure of renting out the upstairs conference room. It was just me and the notable Miss Mckenzie S, but we had enough room where we could have taken our meetings on roller skates around the giant conference table. All my interactions with reservations and other onsite needs have been polite and top notch. Valet can be a bit slow, but the guys are super nice and helpful too.

The price is what really makes me happy: I usually snag one of these lovely rooms for around 150 a night (I stay during the week mostly) and honestly, when I head into town, I'm so delighted to know where I'm going to rest my head. Bakersfield is lucky to have this awesome property. If you're in town, this is the right choice.

The owners of this hotel did a sensational job renovating and decorating the historic building. And, the different venues - lounges and restaurants -- are all well designed and thought out.

What "The Padre" lacks is great service. The staff is amiable, but unpolished. They lack the etiquette and attentiveness that 5-star establishments imbue in their people.

Nevertheless, it is the hot place in Bakersfield and well worth a visit if you're in the locale.

This review is for Prairie Fire.

I had no idea Bakersfield had such a cute, fun spot like this! My girlfriends and I had a girls' night here and it was a blast. Perfect weather for a roof top patio and as soon as the sun went down the little lights strung about were turned on. We were also celebrating different events so we went all out and ordered apps, a bottle of wine, steak and dessert. EVERYTHING was perfection. My friends who ordered the nachos loved the huge portions and how good they were. The Malbec was on point, especially with my medium-well steak and parmesan waffle fries. I don't know how they make their cheesecake but I think it's the best I've ever had. It was almost like a deconstructed cheesecake.

I plan on coming here more often.
