Not good. I have worked in hotels and the staff here was very poor. Sketchy people were hanging out at all the nearby hotels very late. Breakfast was weak. This was definitely the worst hotel I stayed in on my trip across the country. Two stars because the room itself wasn't too awful.

Not a bad place to stay. They even let me extend my check out time! I didn't use any of the facilities (gym and spa) because I was too tired. But overall this place seemed nice.

It was me, my wife, my seven year old, and my six month old. We got a room with two queens and a fold out couch bed. We arrived at seven pm and the room, while spacious, had a horrible smell. It was either mold or some kind of cleaner.
Except for the smell the room was nice. High ceilings, whirl pool tub, and a flat screen. All for sixty bucks. Not bad. But the zip ties that were holding the mattress in the couch bed did not impress me. Especially when the broke as my daughter was sleeping.
Overnight, someone tried to steal the bikes off my rack on the back of my truck. I anticipated this possibility and had backed my truck up against the side of the building pinning the bikes and rack between the wall and truck. I asked if they had cameras as the thief tried pretty hard to take the rack and bikes apart. I was told they didn't have cameras, but someone was supposed to have been walking the parking lot overnight. I doubt it. Anyone checking he lot would have at least noticed my daughters bike pulled off the rack and laying down next to the truck.
Between the smell, the couch bed, and the supposed security, I definitely will not be coming back here

i almost could give three stars but there are just too many negatives.

Pros:
clean room, cheap price, continental breakfast, free wifi

Cons:
Shady area.  People were getting arrested in the parking lot at midnight.
Staff is worthless.  couldn't help me change my reservation to a suite.  Housekeeping kept knocking on my door at 8:15am even though "do not disturb" sign was up.  they did not answer the phone at the front desk to help me do a late check out.
It is not close to downtown or anything nice.
TV is 27" tube with no HBO or extra channels
No pool

I stayed here for one night with my boyfriend and our two kids, we were in town for a baseball tournament. Our room was downstairs, all the way down the hall.  The entire hallway reeked of cigarette smoke despite the "non smoking" signs. As soon as we walked in the room, the first thing I noticed was the carpets. I believe at one time they were a light grey color, they were stained in several areas, I didn't allow my kids to walk around without socks, that's how filthy it was.  The second thing I noticed was that the room was humid. The toilet paper hadn't been replaced with a fresh roll, blow dryer didn't work, two lamps in the room, neither of them worked with the button. We had to screw and unscrew the bulbs in order to turn them on/ off, one of the bulbs didn't work at all. After getting settled in we got the kids dressed to get in the hot tub, unfortunately that did not happen because as soon as we got close enough I knew I would not allow them in there even if I was paid for it, there was a dead roach in the water, along with tons of dirt and leaves. Not only was it disgusting but the kids were really upset. I will definitely not stay here again.

My wife and I really liked this place. The price was great, the location was 'relatively' easy to find, everything was clean, and the front desk workers were all friendly.

Our room was nicely decorated and clean. The bathroom was very large, and the towels were soft and nice.

They have a workout room, laundry, and an outdoor hot tub. One note on the hot tub - to get there, go down the long hall past the front desk. There is a sign pointing to the left towards the workout and laundry rooms, but that does NOT lead to the spa. There is a door leading outside, but you'd have to walk along the outside of the building through the grass and look at the hot tub though a locked gate. To get to the spa, continue to the end of the long hallway and exit the building. The spa is then immediately to the left.

The breakfast area was nice with lots of items typical of a free hotel breakfast.

We were passing through town and decided to use points for a free night. We checked all the choice reviews and chose this because it had one of the best ratings of a choice hotel in Bakersfield. So.... either all the hotels in Bakersfield are totally awful and this place is rated on a curve or ?.  But this was a free night and still,  we can only give it 2 stars. If we paid, we would have asked for a refund and left.
It smelled bad once we walked in. We went to our room to find stains all over the floors and furniture. The bathroom was bad, the underside of the toilet was dirty and it had cigarette burns on the top of the seat. We called to ask for a cleaner room and were told we were "in the nice one." We checked out another room which was worse. We stayed because we were too tired to press on. There is obviously no pride of ownership from the owner of this hotel.
This is a 1 star hotel based on cleanliness alone. If they ever put some effort into cleaning,  it could be a better place to stay.

You definitely get what you pay for here! It's pretty shady (I don't know the area, obviously, but right next to the freeway can't be TOO safe) and there were some guys drinking beer in the parking lot when we arrived and for several hours after.

The hot tub was, in one word, scary. We didn't go in it even though after a long day of driving we were all sore and tired.

The beds were not very comfortable but the linens seemed fresh and were soft, along with the towels in the bathroom.

Carpet didn't seem to have been vacuumed- we found a black olive on the floor. Also there was a ring on the nightstand that was sticky like it hasn't been wiped down at all.

Pay a little more and stay somewhere else for your own peace of mind.

I just don't think  I can stay here again.  Wish I had enough money to go back to The Marriott.  The room is not bad, however the hotel itself is in a shady and awful part of town.  People selling drugs in parking lot.  Unsafe area.  Drunks hanging around and transients as well.  I feel very unsafe here and wish I could just leave.  I feel it might be to late however for a refund.  The carpet is disgusting in the room and needs deep cleaned.  I so wish I had my house slippers.  Terrible smell in lobby of cigarettes.  Room smells odd also.  The bathroom is very clean however.  I have not used the tub and most likely will not.

Rates are cheap but not worth it really.

Wish I could up and leave and not have my card charged.

Not staying here again.

We stayed here a few years ago because it was one of the few hotels in the area that would take a big dog. I remembered it from the last time vaguely and decided to use my points to score a free room.

SCORE! The staff is amazing! I booked the wrong night for check in and the staff (Nick) let me use the hotel phone to call Choice and have the night changed. We needed a portable crib and he brought it to our room and was thoughtful enough to bring extra bedding for it. He was very friendly and made us feel really welcome.

The carpet in the hallway is stained, but it didn't smell and ....  we didn't sleep in the hallway so ... whatevs. The rooms have one accent wall painted in green apple. It really livens things up. The bathroom was nicely seized and had a soaking tub. The plug didn't work, but that's why we travel with our own 99 cent plug.  =)

The bed was decent, not great, but I think of the brand as a budget brand so you can't be too upset. The wi-fi had decent speed and wasn't difficult to connect to. The breakfast in the morning was great. We had waffles, eggs, oatmeal and juice. The Taj Mahal it's not, but I'd definitely stay here again on my way through Bakersfield.
