I chose this place because I just needed a place to stay and wanted something cheap.  I was very pleased.  It was clean.  The bed was reasonably comfortable.  The staff was okay.  I wouldn't call them friendly, but I didn't think they were rude either.  Overall, I would highly recommend it assuming you are comparing to hotels in a similar price range.

The hotel just oozed sleazy. The key carded outer door wouldn't open, even for the night desk guy. Then, the hallway outside of our nonsmoking room was full of smoke. We opened our door and were greeted with a heatwave. We turned on the a/c and waited.

Then, the sheets were ripped and seemed unclean. There was something like gum or other sticky substance on the headboard of one of the beds.

It was late, and we had 2 tired kids, so we just gave in and tried to sleep. After 90 mins, 3 of the 4 of us were still awake, as the room had not cooled down at all. The desk attendant was not helpful at all. Then, we started to itch from the sheets.

Let's just say that at that moment, we packed up and moved to the Hampton Inn next door.

We booked this room to have a cheap place to stay in order to break up our long drive. At $40 a night we weren't expecting much but it doesn't seem like too much to ask for to have your non-smoking room not wreak of cigarettes.  This place had the feel of somewhere you might rent by the hour, we couldn't leave fast enough in the morning.

Good for the price. Great intermediate stop for a long driving trip. Nearly half of the rooms are under renovation but they didn't tell me when I called to check for rooms. Quiet. Pool looks clean. Room is clean and roomy. Bathroom is small compared to other motels. The toilet in my room feels like it'll topple over but I'm sure it won't. It just kinda move when I sit on it. Free Wi-Fi although a bit slow. Free simple breakfast. I requested late check-out but rejected. Only soap and shampoo, no conditioner provided. Crib provided at no charge.

"What? I have to take the course WHERE?"

Yup, road trip to Bako.  Where to stay?  I've stayed at Travelodges before (not a fan of spending lots of money on hotels where I'll be spending no more time than my nightly sleep) and they've met my mediocre standards.

The reservations are on their national 1-800 number so it's easy, and the folks here had all my stuff ready when we rolled in at 2am, looking much like the dozy Bear in their logo.  The room was "on the pool" so we felt like Ballaz.  Not really.  It was clean enough, had all the requisite motel amenities.

The issue?  They didn't make my bed!  They made my travel-mate's bed.  They cleaned up everything else.  It's like they had a large bed-shaped blind spot and completely neglected it.

The pool was filthy but served as a hook-up spot for some smooth-playin' Mallards who we rudely interrupted cuddling when we left early in the morning.  The hot tub?  Drained.  Bummer.

It's close to "downtown" Bakersfield and the 99 freeway, and the price is right.  Unless they don't make your bed.  I made a point of picking up all the quarters that fell from my pants pockets so as not to inadvertantly leave an undeserved tip.

REALLY big rooms and wi-fi, but they had thin walls you could hear others talking late into the night... not yelling, just talking.  Also it says free breakfast but there was like two apples out only and the is no ironing board or iron, make sure to press your shirt before you get there.  Room smells good and the Heater worked very well.  Overall I say it's A-OK.

I just wanted a bed and a shower.  This place provided that for $42 on a Saturday.  The bed was comfortable, the air conditioner worked fine, the bathroom was clean and they had a little microwave and coffee maker in the room.  The rug could use a good cleaning but overall it was fine.  If I had wanted the Hilton, I would have gone down the street and paid $109 instead of $42.  I would stay here again.

Won't stay here again. All we wanted was a good night's sleep between home and Vegas, and that's the last thing we got. The Bed of Death had a valley in the middle; I played musical beds with my husband and kids all night trying to find the right combination of support and space. The wallpaper appears to have been laid over the previous years' build-up of crud; I looked at the light switch in the bathroom and the collection of black mold/mildew was gross. The sheets were clean, but the rest of the place was questionable at best.

We spent $66 (plus tax) to stay the night on our way to Vegas; I'm doubling-down and spending $149 to stay at Hampton Inn and Suites tonight based on the Yelp reviews. If I get a good night's sleep, it'll be worth every penny.

Not fancy by any stretch of the imagination. Drained hot tub, dirty pool, closed sauna etc...  The rooms are clean, but no frills.
I have stayed here multiple times, and always request my favorite room.

Doesn't sound worthy of 5 stars, I know. But, they do one thing that is very important, and do it very well. This is not the best area in Bakersfield, and Bakersfield is overrun with meth addicts and parolees. The staff does everything they can to keep the scumbags out.

You wont find people on welfare living in the motel, you wont find drug dealers, or prostitutes, or any of the other things you would find at the other motels in the area. I have actually seen them throw people out for making too much noise, and having non-paying guests in their rooms. It is very very quiet, and I like it that way.....  I have only on rare occasion encountered other guests.

They cater to construction workers, and other honest tradesmen and women who travel for work. I do not fall into this category, but I like to save a buck when I'm on the road.

If you need a cheap place to stay and that's about it.The room appeared to look like it may have been used by someone to take a shower and left their belt prior.

The next door neighbors were crack heads banging, yelling and fighting. Looks as though the local shaddy clients "use" this place.

After booking through Travelocity's Top Secret, they rated as a 3 star, no way is this creepy, dirty hotel a 3 star! First of all not in the choicest neighborhood, second A/C didn't work and the TV blew out! I asked them to fix these problems, the night manager who tried to accommodate gave me a fan for the room. It was 9:30 at night, no reason to have someone come and look at TV. The next morning, I requested these things be checked out and fixed by the time I got back, the managers/owners said nothing was wrong. And rudely at that!
I called Travelocity, but they wouldn't do anything to help since I booked the Top Secret Deal! Double Whammy!
I will never stay at this hotel again and I will never book a Top Secret Deal again!

Okay, what's with the low ratings?  The hotel is exceptionally cheap, right next to the highway, and they even provide you with complimentary toothpaste and toothbrush when you forget yours, and yes, I forgot mine.

But what's with the low ratings?  I can't comprehend why so many individuals have so much to complain about...it's a $50 hotel, what do you expect?  If you wanted something cleaner, fresher, larger, etc, should've walked across the street to the Marriott!

My husband and I just need a place to rest our heads on our way down to San Diego, and we chose Bakersfield because it's right in the middle, we kind of, plus it was only $50, it's not like i'm going to completely settle there.  The staff was really friendly and they offiered the basics for breakfast, which is what you should expect, this isn't a buffet.

Okay, so basically, if you're seeking a clean (yes, it was clean and the rooms are pretty large in size), affordable and convenient place to stay (not LIVE), this would be a good choice.

Those with high expectations should go elsewhere.

    This place was NASTY.
Having been to some lower end hotels, I know what to generally expect when staying at a place like this but nothing could have prepared me for the horror of this place.

The area (arrived at night) did not seem all that safe with lots of randoms dotted around the place. Parking here made me fearful for my car.
There was an assortment of tools and building materials all over the place and dotted around the common areas. They were "updating" some of the rooms I presume.

Getting to the room, the situation didn't improve a whole lot. There was a patch of the floor missing a carpet tile? The curtains didn't quite draw properly to cover the window completely and were so long they dragged on the floor. The room was so bare you could have put 3 more beds inside it.
There was a certain dampness in the air in the room and the parts of the floor that were carpeted didn't seem properly cleaned.

Breakfast was in a ghetto room that seated like 10 people when there were probably 20 squeezed in.

The only saving grace was that it was very well priced! lol
Do yourself a favor and spend a little more to stay at a nicer hotel!!!!

Found this location with a Yahoo Search, what a great value, aprox 1.5 miles from the Amtrak Station, I took local transportation, walked a block. My room was clean, stayed in room 109, by the pool. The only negative was some feet
movement with the room above me. I did get a great nights rest. Convenient
restaurants surrounding this property. With my online discount $44.73 with tax.

Unfortunately I had to stay here at the last minute and I have to say that the only good thing about this place was that I could check-in early, of course they charged me an additional fee to do so! The guy at the front desk was extremely rude and disrespectful! There were hairs all over the tiles in the shower, mold around the window as well. The little closet area smelled of urine and although the amenities claim that the rooms have refrigerator and microwave & there was no microwave! When I called the front desk to request one, yet again I got attitude! After about an hour and 2 additional calls to the front desk a microwave was brought to my room. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone including my worst enemy!

Just stayed one night, since we were passing through on the way to somewhere else. It met our needs perfectly. Inexpensive but decent accomodations, the room was clean, staff were nice, and breakfast was great. It's a budget hotel, and it completely met my expectations. If you're looking for a 5-star hotel, don't stay here and then give this place a bad review. It's just fine and serves it's purpose well. Some freeway noise, but since I live near a busy road it didn't bother me at all. If I ever have the pleasure of passing through Bakersfield again, I'd stay here.

Rooms are feet away from freeway, staff is VERY unfriendly, parking spaces too small. You can stay very close (Buck Owens Blvd.) for similar rates and experience a much better night. My advice would be to do that.

I usually don't give motels four stars. They're usually dirty, gritty, gross and have questionable front desk people. They're usually located in crappy areas of town or in a town where the whole town is more or less crappy. However, this Travelodge actually managed to surprise me.

First, this place is so ... nice? They have a garden, and a nice patio to sit in. They have free breakfast in the morning and high quality too not just continental cold stuff. They have a friendly front desk, and again with the flowers and the garden. It's so pleasant walking around here. The rooms were clean, well maintained, the bathrooms are super clean and the parking is convenient and easy.

This place is CHEAP so it's great and the location is only about 1-2 miles away from downtown Bakersfield. It's next to the freeway but not noisy so it's easy access to the freeways and many gas stations around. There are tons of fast food places and a coco right in the parking lot so if you get hungry you can come grubbing. Awesome.

I was hesitant in reserving a room here due to bad reviews. We did it anyway for the sake of saving money and it was an emergency trip. We checked in around 5pm and Chris helped us. We got the remodeled room and it was all nice except for the bathroom, I didnt like the blue tiles. Lol. The bathroom was clean. New toilet and tub. I forgot to bring my toothbrush as well as my kids', and the front desk provided what I need.
There was no construction or freeway noise at night. We slept well. Bed and pillows were comfy.
Breakfast was alright. Waffles, cereal, danish, coffee, juice and milk. We ate there the first day. But the second we went to Coco's instead because we were starving and decided to go heavy.

I'd stay here again for an emergency trip like this.

It's a good cheap place to spend the night. Nice rooms lovely smoking area and breakfast spot. Rooms smell and look clean. Only problem is there TV guide doesn't match the channels and they are limited on channel selections.

Well I think it is a good place to stay. It is pretty cheap, $50 a night and they give AAA discounts.

My only complain is the slow WIFI connection I need for work in the morning. I only stayed here because I needed the internet or I would be camping under the stars.

Anyways the room is clean, smell good, the room is large and the staff is friendly.

I really enjoyed this hotel.  Check in was painless and staff was SUPER friendly and provided excellent customer service.  We'd been driving all day and got there close to 9 pm and the pool was supposed to close at 9 but he kept it open a little longer so we could go in.  Great time, great sleep, clean rooms, good breakfast.  No complaints at all.

This Travelodge is heinous. The "non smoking room" we were given reeked of cigarettes and the noise from the freeway was very loud.  There was some sketchy stain on the carpet and when we sat on the beds the springs popped.  The comforters were threadbare. Our room was right next to the maid's room and there was all kind of noise coming through the paper thin walls. The stairwell smelled strongly of bleach. And to top it off They jacked up the prices due to it being a very busy weekend.  We did not stay  and when I told the front desk person about the smoke he offered me room spray. Would not recommend this room to a truck-stop hooker I met at a methadone clinic.  However they did have free wi-fi.  So there's that.
