super cheap!

simple, clean, near hwy 99, wifi, mini fridge, very friendly reception worker...

it is rare to find a value like this one.
a no-frills bargain.

Great value!  I just stayed here this past weekend with my husband and my son.  My husband reserved it because of the great price and when I found out how cheap it was, at $40 a night for 2 beds, I was so mad at him because I thought he was taking us to a dingy, dirty flea motel.  However, I owed him a huge apology because although it is old, it is super clean.  I pulled the bedding down and inspected both beds before my son got into his bed and everything was stark white, super clean.  The bathrooms were clean and there was a nice mini fridge that kept drinks ice cold and a microwave.  Of course at this price you are not getting any frills, but if you are looking for a great value, then sleep here.  I would definitely stay here again!  I am not sure about the neighborhood, but it is right off the freeway and just in case, we just made sure to empty everything out of the car.

I have stayed at two other economy hotels in Bakersfield over the past month. This location, by far, is the nicest, cleanest, best value you will find.

I booked through Booking.com and paid $37 per night  for a room with 2 double beds (slept 4 of us). This was incredible considering the quality of the location and room... and the free continental breakfast which was included!

After my experiences at the other economy hotels in town, my expectations were pretty low. But this motel is a real gem for those on a budget who don't want to sacrifice cleanliness, service and quality.  I will be back in Bakersfield in the next month and plan on staying here every time I'm back in town.

For the price, this is the best bet in Bakersfield.  A security guard patrols the area at night which makes it feel safe.  I agree with previous posters that this is the most economical bang for the buck in Bakersfield.   Other motels in California have been cheaper and nicer, and this is the only reason I cannot give 5 stars.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! I am giving it 1 star only because the door closed.
This was easily the MOST DISGUSTING and FILTHY motel I have ever stayed in.
The last time we came up, to this armpit of CA, we asked to SEE the room before paying and that will now be our strict policy. If it hadn't been the middle of the night we would have left.
To start out we rented a smoking room for 2 people. Now I suppose that there is a slight possibility that this room was worse than others due the fact that smokers are dirtier than non-smokers but still...
-MOST UNCOMFORTABLE BEDS WE EVER SLEPT in! We both tossed and turned all night and woke up with hip and back pain
-the chair in the room was soo stained (with-god-only-knows-what) and cigarette burns that it should have been thrown away
-the ice bucket was also dirty and had cigarette stains in it from someone using it as an ashtray because the room
-had No ASH TRAY
-the carpet was so gross we laid the towels on the floor where we needed to walk without shoes (we left our shoes and socks on until we got in bed)
-there was 1 ice machine (the other was broken) and it costs $ .25 for a bucket of ice
-there were dents in the door as if the police had to bust it down more than once (most likely a popular hooker spot)
-blankets and pillows (linens) stunk (thank god we brought our own pillows) but the bedspread was so dirty that we had to get it off the bed
-there WERE NO FITTED SHEETS!!! so our feet were touching the hideous matress (we took the one from the other bed just to cover one bed)
-the signs say $37 but try to get that rate!
THIS PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN or torn down. Whoever owns this dump should be ashamed. We will bring a futon and sleep in the back of the truck next time!

If you are like me, the average Joe traveler without a lot of money and looking for a place to settle for the night, then sure, consider Vagabond Inn.

The price was under $40....absolute LOWEST in the area.  The room was as expected.  No frills, no thrills.  Clean sheets and clean bathroom.  No funky smells.  Good enough for me!

One super nice treat that may just be new to me... the free breakfast included "Make your own homemade waffles"!!!  They have waffle irons going with self serve pancake mix and you just go to town!  They also had all the regular breakfast stuff...but hot fresh waffles?!?!?  Super cool.

I'd actually stay here again just for the free waffle breakfast.

COCKROACHES everywhere when we walked in! Will never stay here again! Clerk was polite and friendly but rooms are infested with cockroaches.

Nice hotel. Nothing fancy but clean and friendly staff make it a nice place to stay. Had my daughter with me on a trip to Bakersfield and decided to get a room for the night to get out of the truck for a bit. The staff couldnt have been nicer. They allowed us to check in well before normal time. Gave us a nice room near the pool and made sure we had everything we needed. I will stay again.

This is a very basic hotel (inn). You get what you pay for. I had a fridge and a microwave, and an actual bathtub / shower. The WiFi wasn't quite sufficient enough to post this review, but at least I could check my email and facebook. The tv was extremely out-dated, but it worked. It was cheaper to stay there than econolodge (bedbugs/ smells weird/ awful service), and nicer than motel 6. I didn't see any hookers or lot lizards hanging out around here, and I'm pretty sure nobody was dealing drugs in the parking lot. So I was content. For Bakersfield, that is a huge compliment.

Also see: waffle-maker.

I stayed at this place for several months off and on last year. The rooms are cleaned everyday and they smell good. The room I was in had a queen bed with two end tables with lamps, plus a table with two chairs and free Wi-Fi and a 36" T.V. with remote and 75 channels and HBO and a refrigerator with a microwave oven and a coffee maker with reg & decaf coffee and tea.
The bathroom is really nice and there is a bathtub with a shower and shower gel and shampoo gel dispenser.
The vanity area has a sink with hair dryer and a place to hang your clothes and a large counter top and lots of lights.
The rooms also has a really good air conditioner and heater.
This place even has a security guard, so your vehicles are safe and there is ample parking for cars or construction trucks and there is a large lot for Simi-trucks.

The best thing is I would check in as a corporate account and I was able to check in anytime day or night. There was a lot of times I was checking in at 9:00am, as most places do not allow you to check in until 3:00pm. All I had to do was give them a call an hour in advance so they could make sure the room was clean for me. Most days or nights I would check out when I left, as I did not know where my next job was located at?

This place also has a pool and vending machines for sodas and snacks and a ice machine. There are lots of places within walking distance to eat at or shop for stuff.

This place only charges most guest $38.00 a night plus fees and a corporate account pays $40.00 a night, but we can check in at anytime.

This place also excepts credit cards or cash and has continental breakfast, they have two waffle makers and a automatic pancake maker, that makes two perfect pancakes each time., they have orange juice and milk and coffee and two types of cereal and biscuit & gravy.....yummy.

I love reading hotel reviews. People bitch about the tiniest things, like their own home is pristine and they deserve Marriott quality for $65. I knew it was a 2-3 star. I didn't read much that deterred me, in addition to the fact the reviews were old. Anyway, it was worth $65. Yeah the clerk with the black eye wasn't friendly, but having booked a room through a website, I was happy my reservation pulled up immediately. The room was nice. It was clean. I loved that there was not any carpeting! Real tile, real fake wood floor, real whatever, it's a helluva lot better than carpet with remains of who knows ?? It wasn't sold out. But there were a fair amount of people who were thankfully quiet. The air conditioner worked good, too good or I messed it up somehow. The breakfast was the usual cereal, waffles, biscuits and gravy ,coffee...  Anyway, for $65 it was fine for overnight but I would not stay longer. There was a smell of cow manure in the morning, but not from inside the room. And.. Starbux across the street!

Location - convenient
Room - questionably clean (if you look closely at anything in the room, its all dirty)

but really the most off-putting thing about this whole experience at Vagabond was the incredibly rude lady at the front desk. she was almost aggravated when i asked her any questions, and was almost impatient - like she had something better to be doing, than oh lets say the one thing she has to do, customer service.

the pool had mold all over the sides of it, i would never swim in it.
there was some guy going around to the windows of all the rooms knocking on them asking for people to buy his cologne - and for a spare cigarette.
also, everywhere outside in the whole complex smelled seriously putrid.

the only upside - wifi, a good selection of tv channels, and a fridge.

theres a bunch of other hotels around the area in the same price range, i would suggest taking a chance at a different location.

I have stayed here longer term due to working up here for 2 months. So since I'm currently at approx 20 days of staying here it's time to write a review.... well... security is tight when convenient. They sure as heck could not stop the group of drunk people knocking on my door at 4am for quite a while but when their manager "saw people enter our room" they called and threatened me saying they do not allow visitors and if we dont get rid of them we "will be kicked out" They even sent their security guard to the room after calling and harassing me to make sure we had no one visiting... we don't know anyone here to visit and at this point we were not new to staying here... we are here to work not party. The harassment was not welcomed and I never recieved an apology for the false accusations. The internet is "high speed" aka dial up speeds IF you can get on... it lets approx 6-8 devices online at a time....  the continental breakfast is ok. No protien or fruit but its ok compared to some hotels. It's at least mostly quiet, clean, and bug free, and a decent price.

Great place to stay when I'm just passing through town. Clean and simple rooms and absolutely AMAZING front desk associates. Almost every time I stay I've had the pleasure of dealing with Jackie. She is a doll, polite and extremely helpful. Well done!

Bed bugs!!!! Bed bugs!!!! Stay away!!!!!Stayed here last night. Room 215. Woke up this morning to bed bugs and bed bug bites all over my husband and I. Reported the issue to the front desk even captured a bug and showed them the evidence. The manager Rochelle basically called my husband and I liars. Threatened to call the cops because she was going to lose business. And only agreed to a refund if we gave her the evidence of what we found. I  will never ever stay here again. Thumbs down!!!!!!

I really enjoyed my stay her the rooms are looking better and better each time I stay. The are clearly putting a lot of work into this property as it shows. As always the service is great and friendly. My room was exceptionally nice and clean. I love this location because it is so close to shopping. The only place I like to stay when away from home!

Room 106 is fucking haunted. Bad evil spirit in there. It literally chocked my boyfriend. Lights would flicker. TV would change on its own.  When we got there the weird thing was the window. It was wide open along with the blinds. The haunting started an hour after we were there. We left after only being there for about two hours. It did not want us there. It kept getting worse and worse. If would have stayed longer it could have lead to possession or worse. It hated my boyfriend. I recommend you stay away from that entire property. God Bless the people who are there.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Vagabond. A nice quick check in with Luciano who has great customer service skills. He acknowledged me as soon as I stepped in and got to me as quick as he can since there were other customers ahead of me. There is plenty of parking and the beds were comfortable. Free wifi and free hot breakfast. Also there is a Dennys, In n Out, Panda Express, Starbucks, Jack in the Box within walking distance. It is in a great location and totally would recommend this hotel.

Based on reviews,  I was a little nervous about this place.   We booked about a month in advance and got a super cheap rate of $38/night.   Since it was so cheap I'm probably being a lot more forgiving than some of the other reviewers.

The lady at the front desk was really nice and even let us check in a little early.  Our room was fine.  Neighbors and cars/neighbors were a bit noisey but that's not the Vagabond's fault.  It's no Ritz Carlton but come on!  It's a motel.  Not sure what some people are expecting here.  I've spend more money on a campsite.

-Close to the freeway
-In room refrigerator
-Free Breakfast
-Walmart,  Starbucks, and fast food closeby

-I wouldn't go swimming here
-Squeaky beds and headboards are very loose,  lol.

If you're looking for a cheap and convenient place to sleep,  this is acceptable.  If you're looking for plush beds,  a clean pool,  and room service,  keep on driving North and be prepared to spend a lot more money.

Took a chance with this chain over lower priced chains due to some of the positive reviews and regret my decision... Front desk clerk was super nice and helpful but from there it was all downhill.

I was stuck in the way SW building which was totally sketchy but thankfully had a guard wandering around. Room had been remodeled" at some point by removing a huge mirror on the main wall exposing a previous paint color and installing a tv on the wall along with a new plastic sink and tub insert.

Rest of room was "as-is" including the carpet which looked like it hadn't been cleaned since installed years ago. Worse part of the whole package was the sheet of plywood they considered a "bed". Sleeping on the floor might have been softer.

Apparently my "low" online price was half of what they were charging on arrival according to the desk clerk. Save your money (and body/mind) by sticking with the lower cost chains.

I stayed here recently and it was a good room at a good price. The room was clean. The surrounding area of the hotel was clean and seemed very quite.
Check in was easy and fast. The person at the front desk, Luciano made sure he did everything to accommodate us and he was very friendly.
Overall good room for a good price. I will be returning when I'm back in Bakersfield.

We came here yesterday, 2 rooms.
The lady at the front desk was really nice. We entered the room, to see a really nice room.
It was definitely renovated, and looked great. Everything seemed new, and very nice.
The only downside is the floors.
It looks clean. But it definitely wasn't. Our clean socks were dirty and black after walking on it for only one night. The Internet also didn't work, as it was really hard to connect with and hardly connected.
Overall it was pretty good. It was a very empty motel, but it was decent.
