I was assigned to a 7 week internship in Bishop, CA.  I searched for places to stay in both Mammoth and Bishop, but they were very costly.  My friend helped me find Big Pine cottages, which is just 15-20 min South of Bishop.

Sandy, the owner, was so friendly and helpful through my entire stay. She checked in to make sure I arrived safely, gave recommendations for things to do and where to go grocery shopping, and even mailed a belonging I had accidently left in the cottage.  The manager was also really friendly and knew me by name. They went above and beyond what a hotel/motel/inn would provide.

The place itself was very cute! From the linens to the decoration, the entire place was very comfortable and clean. There was enough supplies for my entire stay.

I am very happy with my stay and will definitely keep it in mind when I return to visit Mammoth (which is about 1 hour away).

After a week of camping we decided to rent a cottage (#3) for 3 nights. We wanted to check out Whitney Portal, the Alabama Hills, etc. etc.  Also the local mountain canyons.....Having a big dog we usually have little to choose from in lodging choices. We were very glad they allowed us to bring our Lab. The cottage was older, rustic, yet clean. The bed was very comfortable. Hostess Sandy was super welcoming!
I guess our one negative would be: The noise from Highway 395 traffic. It's a short, one half, block away .... It was quite warm while we were there and impossible to sleep with the windows open. Roaring semi trucks fly down that road, even in this little town. All night long too. 24/7. We could not enjoy sitting out side in the small courtyard/patio because of this noise either. Bummer!

The place is fantastic!  We are staying here while finishing up with escrow on a house, and the cabin is lovely!  Sandy is sweet, even loaned us a crock pot!  Very dog friendly, and quiet.
They have so many extra things to make your stay  special.  I would recommend this place to anyone!
