We stayed here 2 nights after being in the Swiss'otel in Chicago for 3 days.  I was pleasantly surprised.  This Best Western is clean, professional & the do-it-yourself waffle bar is a real treat!  The surrounding neighborhood is a little rough, though the 3 or 4 block radius around the Best Western is fine.  I'll definitely stay here again.

The hotel itself is nice, clean and well presented but I was a little disappointed. First of all, I spoke with the staff a couple of times prior to my visit explaining that I hoped to get an early check in. I realize this is asking a favor, but with advanced notice (and a platinum Best Western Rewards membership) this usually isn't a problem. I arrived to check in about an hour early and was advised that only one room had become available and the housekeeping staff had not had the chance to clean it yet because they were all at lunch. Having worked in hospitality in the past, I wonder what magnificent manager plans for the entire housekeeping staff to take lunch during the exact period of time between check out and check in? Suffice it to say, I was irritated. The second irritant came with the hotel smoking policy. I've stayed at plenty of 100% non-smoking hotels and those with outdoor areas such as balconies and patios allow smoking in those open areas just not in the rooms --not this place. There are two designated areas where smoking is permitted (one outside the lobby interest, the other between the lobby and parking lot). While some guests who are extremely offended by smoke may appreciate this policy, it seemed a little too strict for that of myself and travel partner -we didn't like feeling 'watched' for smoking, and furthermore, a non-guest passing pedestrian in the breeze way alongside the hotel property could actually smoke closer to the room than a guest could which seemed ridiculous. It also would have been nice for them to stock the rooms with a couple of additional towels. One towel per checked in guest is a little stingy when I often stay in smaller rooms with more towels left for use.

I'm pleasantly surprised at this hotel. I've been to many Best Westerns and the like over the years, but this one is actually kind of fancy. I was bracing myself for the usual tired '80's inspired (I use the term 'inspired' loosely here), tiny room, noisy hallways, and curt staff, but found the opposite of that here!

Looks like they may have recently done a renovation because everything looks pretty fresh. Granite counters everywhere. My room is bigger than I expected it to be (I did the hotels.com thing and expected a teensy room), and has a nice soft arm chair with ottoman near the (king-sized!) bed. Room also comes with the standard safe deposit box, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, toiletries. Beds are very comfortable. Free wi-fi that actually works! (Heck, I'm using it now)

Front desk people are courteous and helpful. And who doesn't love free breakfast?? 6:30-9:30; SO glad they don't cut you off at 8:30 - little more time to sleep in.

Location is pretty good - I was a little concerned as we drove here in the cab - 'hood was looking a little rough around the edges. However, it's a little different once you get out here to where the hotels and the convention center is (5 minute walk to the LB Convention Center). And it's right near the water as well.

Forget dropping the bucks on the nearby Westin - this place is more than good enough for little old humble me on a business trip!

Love this place! Great location, friendly staff who allowed us to check in hours early. The rooms were clean, comfy, spacious and well worth the money, you won't be disappointed. All rooms come with a door bell which to me is way better then hearing house keeping bang on your neighbors door @ 7am. :) Enjoyed the flat screene tv's. The beds were beyond your expectations for a "Best Western". Parking daily is $10, which is ok since we're used to paying "resort fee's" (but free parking) in Las Vegas which can range from $6.99 to$17.99 daily. $10 is a happy medium I guess :). Parking is located under the hotel. Thank goodness it's not dirty or dark like a dungeon down there. Definitely would recommend this place.

I have witnessed a good deed in June.  My Brother left a video camera and accessories upon check-out.  He realized this while in Laguna Beach.  The staff confirmed it's finding and held it for me to pick up with photo ID confirmation.  I love that!  I have left numerous items at other hotels never to be seen of again.  I even went back to a Motel in Florida less than 20 minutes later to find my wallet had mysteriously vanished from the top of the TV.  Trust is such a big deal to me while traveling.
I live in Long Beach and had my Brother and family stay here.  This Hotel is fairly new to Long Beach.  Since opening, this area, known as the Artist's District, has revitalized itself very well.  The City even redid the sidewalks and corners across from the hotel
This hotel has very clean, updated rooms.  It is close to everything.  Their continental breakfast is a great way to start the day without wasting too much time at a restaurant.

The staff at this place is very upbeat and helpful! The location is walking distance to the convention center which is a plus and offers free continental breakfast in the mornings.

Minuses: $10 parking - the parking isn't even secure. Small rooms. Way too close to the ghetto!

The price just can't be beat for what they offer! The rooms are clean and really nice. The place must have been remodeled recently as the bathrooms have brand new granite surrounds and everything is just spotless.

The staff is a little hit or miss. Upon check in the lady was curt and this was kind of upsetting. She tried to hook us on the $10 parking per day charge, but I had read about this on a previous review and knew to be very upfront when asked if we had a car. Apparently they use this question to add the parking fee to your stay without telling you. Thankfully I replied that we were using the meters and avoided the mishap.

But on the night shift the gentleman greeted us cordially, was super helpful and gave us change for the parking meter without batting an eye. Parking is free at the meters on Sundays and every other day from 6pm to 9am.

They have free wi-fi and continental breakfast. The whole place is nice and clean...even their parking lot. The bed linens have a great thread count and they leave plenty of down pillows, which we love. Also, the bed was great...not too soft or hard. It was a great night sleep every night - we stayed three days.

And as far as the neighborhood goes, we found it to be very safe and not at all unsightly. In fact, there seems to be quite a bit of police checking the meters at all hours of the day and the art district is close by with good shopping and great restaurants just a few blocks away.

Went in and booked a one stay night through a travel website. Went to check in only to have the hotel employee tell me that they were completely booked. All I received from the front desk was a sorry and have a good night. No help trying to find another room at another Best Western nearby or a even %off voucher for my next visit. They hit their quota for the night which was all they were concerned with. Nice job thinking of yourselves first before the customer.

After my stay at the Vagabond Inn, I was pleasantly surprised with the Best Western Convention Center Inn. The building has been completely renovated and the rooms are all big and brand new.

I arrived late night and was greeted by a very nice young lady at the reception desk. She was horrified when I told her about the mouse at the Vagabond and she assured me nothing creepy crawly would be in my room. We giggled and she gave me the room key and I made my way through the nicely decorated lobby to the elevator and up to my room.

My room had a view of my office building and the Courtyard Marriott across the street. The room was huge, enough room for about 5 yoga mats complete with fat girls sprawled across them. The bed was fantastic as were the linens and enough down pillows to build a cocoon around me. The room was extremely clean, stocked with new fluffy white towels and awesome lotion, of which I practically bathed myself in the first night.

I got up early and headed out to my office. I came back around 1pm to find that housekeeping had come and straightened up and left me TWO of the little lotions. I was impressed and left a nice note on the guest survey at the end of my stay, spanning 6 days.

The only issue that I did have was with a male desk clerk, an older gentleman with an attitude problem. I had parked my car in a loading spot right outside the doors leading to the parking lot. I was unloading a suitcase from my trunk that I didn't bother with on the night of my check-in. He snapped at me to move my car right after I was finished unloading. I decided to watch an episode of Judge Judy before going back down to move my car. Spiteful, I know.

Unfortunately, there was a convention and the hotel was sold out for the last three days I was displaced from home, so I ended up having to move again this time to the Rodeway Inn, also in Downtown Long Beach.

All and all, my stay was great. The parking is good for Downtown Long Beach. My favorite part of the hotel is the doorbell outside of the room door. Very cute.

Liked -- Very Nice Rooms
Disliked -- The Not-So-Nice guy at the reception desk

Let me start with the cons:
First thing was I booked our room through hotels.com . originally i booked a room with 2 beds, no balcony. a couple days later, hotels.com had a special for the same hotel but with a balcony. so when i checked in, they gave us a room w/o the balcony. luckily, we didn't unpack but i had to go back down to the front desk and ask for the room with a balcony that i had booked days ahead.

Second con was that they offered free wi-fi but the room they gave us was out of range for wifi. in order for me to use my laptop, i had to sit in the middle of the hallway to get a wifi signal.

On to the pros:
The location was prime since it wasn't too far from the Queen Mary which was where we were going to for Toyotafest. Also, it was walking distance to Vons and Roscoe's C&W! The hotel was very clean inside and out. the rooms were clean and very comfortable. our balcony was pretty cool seeing as it overlooked the shops on Linden Ave. my wife and kids loved the indoor pool since the weather outside wasn't perfect outdoor swimming weather. Also, the pool wasn't heated but it wasn't too bad once you got in. The free Continental breakfast was a big plus. Making your own waffles was pretty cool. and the breakfast area was clean and organized.

Lastly, to those that say this area is ghetto and scary...LOL You have got to be kidding me. My wife, kids and I walked around and ate at Roscoe's at night! Not once were we concerned about these "sketchy characters".

Stayed here in August of this year. Location is not bad. its located close to mama and pap shops and restaurants. The area is safe and your 5 blocks away from Pine street where all the Bars and other main shops are located. We got their and yes you pay for parking, However I used Orbitz  to book the room so it was pre paid. Parking is downstairs, Lobby is nice, are room was in the 3rd floor, if you want a view make sure you ask. It was a bit pricey for the room. Room is okay nice decorations and a falt screen tv they have am IPOD stand for you to recharge and play music, Bed was really soft and bathroom size was big. However i was disappointed that the room didnt come with a frig? had to get ice from the ice machine and place our drinks in the bucket. We went to the gym downstairs. 2 treadmills, 1 bike machine and 1 liptical. Weight machine is old and outdated, still works well but be nice if it was updated. Pool was decent size and is indoors. Pool is kept clean and warm it was great i didnt want to get out. We had the free breakfast down stairs. They have a make your own our waffle bar and have bacon and eggs and you can keep refiling  your plate however much you want, they have hot cereal cold cereal, yogurt, orange juice hard boiled eggs and toast. no noise level from our room however we did get our room on the far side corner away from the street. Overall I would come back to this hotel, its staff is friendly and the pool and free breakfast is a plus. A little overpriced but better buck for your money that the hotel across the street.

$90 per night, $10 for parking

This by far is the cleanest budget hotels I've stayed.  The room has been updated with modern decor and flat screen TV.  I could not find any major issues other than the wifi was not stable or fast.  But again because it is so clean, i have no complaint.

Pool= did not use
fitness room= did not  use
free breakfast = did not get a chance to eat

It's two blocks away from the Long Beach Transit Mall.  Hop on the LA Metro Blue Line and you are in downtown LA one hour later.  It is also walking distance to all other local attractions such as the aquarium.

Great hotel for a great price and the bet location. I came out here to visit family with my girlfriend. The hotel is dead center of downtown long beach. With restaurants and things to do at every sight. While here we went the aquarium and the pike area for fun. This hotel made easy to visit and save money while providing comfort. High suggested and I might come back again!

Pretty decent. If you don't want to go for broke, I would def recommend this place. Plus, we were walking distance from Rocco's (literally steps away), so that's a plus.

Checking in was pretty easy. Parking is underground, $10 a night (kinda bummed we had to pay in the first place). However, PLUS on the complimentary breakfast held in the lobby level from 6:30 am to 9:30 am. Fruits, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, bacon, waffles, bagels. Pretty good bfast options!

Room was pretty spacious and clean. When I saw the king sized bed, I just wanted to pass out for the night. Mmmmmmm.

One "meh" factor: walls could talk. We heard the guests in then next room every so often, so we would just turn up the tv. Also, our room was located on the highest floor (3rd), and we still found the street noise pretty loud. Yes, the window was closed. Fortunately, I'm a heavy sleeper.

Very nice! Clean, great breakfast, great local art fair just around the corner (2nd Saturday of every month), very close to SuperMex (best burritos EVER!!!), beds are VERY comfy, sheets are soft, no complaints!! Walking distance to many restaurants, coffee shops, and other shops.

Wish there was a fridge & microwave in room. $10.00/nite for parking was a bit extreme on top of room rate - should just be included in price!!

Staff was pleasant, housekeeping thorough!  AWESOME PRICE through Travelocity, but Best Western didn't count the 4 nights stay toward their rewards program - that's kinda cheap on their part.

Do HIGHLY recommend this hotel.

Best value for your money for sure.

Check in wasn't the fastest, but it was ok. Not a fan of paying for parking though.

The room was clean, as was the bathroom *sigh of relief*

They have plenty of little toiletries aside from the standard soap, face soap, and shampoo you get at other similar types of hotels.

Didn't wake up in time for complimentary breakfast, but it's nice to have the option.

The only downside- no fridge :(

I was here with my boyfriend while he was at a conference and the hotel is very clean and service is very friendly and helpful. We were on the 3rd floor and it was very quiet, even at night with the window open!  The room was comfortable and tastefully decorated.  Great hotel for price and location! Very safe and within walking distance to several great places to eat.  The parking is underground.  It's well lit, and there is plenty of availability; just keep the parking ticket provided, on your car's dash when parked.  They also provide a complimentary breakfast that includes scrambled eggs, sausage/bacon, and the usual breakfast items of cereals, breads, yogurt, juice and coffee. We would definitely stay here again!

I stayed here just one night, after I had to leave the Holiday Inn Downtown because of the abysmal conditions.

The Best Western was everything I hoped for in a hotel. Clean, nice, okay location. There was complimentary breakfast but I didn't try it.

The only cons were the price ($250 for one night), the in-case-of-damages deposit ($100 hold on my credit card for one night), and no fridge (had to throw out dinner leftovers). The name is a misnomer, as the hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the Long Beach Convention Center, but it's close enough, just inaccurately named. The Hyatt is AT the Long Beach Convention Center, for comparison.

I would definitely recommend this hotel.

If you must stay here, leave a CASH DEPOSIT. Insist on it. If you let them place an $125 hold on your debit or credit card they will most likely try and steal it and hope you don't notice. 3 stars for adequate and clean room, but -2 stars for the unscrupulous business practice.

Stay away from the Long Beach Best Western Plus near the convention center! They will charge you a smoking fee even if you do not smoke. It is ridiculous how they discriminate against medical patients. No ashes or any evidence that we smoked in the room. All the evidence they said was that it smelled. Well, we keep it in a jar in our suite case. I'm sorry our medicinal smells potent. I understand there is a $500 fee if an alarm went off--which never happened cause we did not smoke in the room. If there was smoking in the room, it states the minimum is a $125 charge, highest will be $300. The only thing the manager on duty can say is "this is a non smoking property and there is nothing we can do about the charge." We understand it's a non smoking property. Where the hell did the $500 come from? Oh, her statement on the charge is now for cleaning fees. And by cleaning fees, she means spraying Febreeze?

So then afterwards I asked about a scenario on how if I did smoke cigarettes, but left an empty package on the table, would I still be charged a smoking fee. Again, all she had to say was "this is a non smoking property." Shady business practice to get more money out of their customers. We are business owners ourselves and practice good business. Very sad they have to nickel and dime the customers.

Very low pressure toilets. The A/C didn't even work--we only checked in for a day, so this did not bother us. No fridge. The key for the door never worked on the first--or fifth--try. They offer free WiFi, but guess what, outside of WiFi area. So no internet at all.

They charge $10 per day of parking in their private lot. Double dipping in fees. We will not be coming back or recommending to anyone. Take your money to either the Hyatt--where are friends stayed at--or The Westin. They have better customer service and nicer rooms.

For a Best Western, this hotel is definitely pretty amazing and possibly even on par with some of the higher star hotels. The rooms are spacious and they provide a free continental breakfast. I loved how they included a makeup remover kit, facial soap, shoe mitt, shower cap, toothbrush, and toothpaste in their toiletries kit. You usually would just expect shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion.

The view isn't as pretty as some of the users on here make it out to be and the location isn't what I would consider "heart of downtown." It is definitely is in the downtown area, but I would consider the heart of downtown to be the Renaissance, Hyatt, etc. The Best Western rep I was on the phone with definitely gave me the impression that the aquarium, beach, and other popular locations were literally around the corner, which is not the case.

The Ugly: We had so much trouble with our room key. The sensor to the room door had trouble reading our card every time and we had to call the front desk every time to help us open the door or reset our keys. Maintenance would also take a long time to get us our replacement keys and sometimes wouldn't even show up. I complained to the front desk about this during check out and the lady pretty much just smirked and brushed us off. They say it only takes one person to ruin it. So while the other staff members provided us with great customer service, this lady definitely left us feeling like we shouldn't come back again. I would've given this place 4 stars, but now just 3.

On a lil mini getaway and passed travelodge and the Marriott.  So incredibly glad we stopped here. Didn't catch the ladies name at the front desk but asked later and was told her names Michelle. Absolutely amazing customer service and I felt like a number one customer when it was actually my first time there. We chatted about what we were in town for n got a quick rundown on what was available in the area. Got to the room and it was spacious, extremely clean, and one of the most comfortable beds I've been on. When in Long Beach this is the hotel to stay at.

Just stayed here for a minivacation in long beach with my boyfriend. I booked it on expedia and received a very good deal on a two night stay on a king sized standard room. Checkin and checkout was very easy to do with friendly staff members, the overall look of the hotel was great, beds and pillows were comfy in the room -  and it was spacious. And it was in a great location with everything from restaurants, bars, boutiques, and grocery stores within walking distance. It was also a quick walk to shoreline village, the pike, and aquarium.

They have a complimentary breakfast between 6:30-9:30 am and it is a full on breakfast with pastries, yogurt, bagels, oatmeal, cereal, juice, coffee, waffles, eggs, and bacon/sausage. Their fitness center is small, but does the trick, and their pool and spa are clean. They do have that ten dollar charge per night for parking, but considering paying 35 for parking per night in San Francisco hotels, ten dollars is nothing. Plus, the fact that my car would be in a monitored parking lot gave me an extra sense of security.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again and would recommend it to anyone coming through here!

My husband and I stayed here while in town on business.  The customer service at this hotel is excellent, front desk staff,  and hotel staff,  everyone was friendly and courteous. When we walked into our room, there was a thank you and gift bag for us.  That is great customer relations.  We had a balcony room and the balcony was great to walk out and enjoy, I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the balcony, I opened the French door to the balcony to enjoy the ocean breezes.  The room was spotless, they have make-up remover and shaving kit along with bath accessories.  It was nice to have the make-up remover handy, returning from a night out.  There were also plenty of hangers in the closet for 2 people, which we greatly appreciated with full size ironing board and iron, which we used.  The free breakfast had a lot of choices, scrambled eggs, sausage, waffles, muffins, bagels, cereals, yogurt, and hard boiled eggs.  I would recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again.  It would be great if there were a microwave and mini-fridge in the rooms.   Thank you  Best Western for a great stay!

I guess what do you expect from a Best Western... At minimum, some courtesy? This place treats guests like children. Every step of check-in was painful including the fact that the keys didn't work when I got to the room. Their response: a snarky "don't keep the keys by your phone and this won't happen." Um, I hadn't. Even a simple request for more towels was met with scrutiny and questioning. Are you kidding me?

The pros: convenient to the convention center. The cons: almost everything else. Oh, the water pressure was strong, so consider this a 1.5 star review.

Could not feel more welcome or that my business was appreciated then I have been made to feel here. Attention to detail when responding to any service request is unparalleled. The staff and the GM Anne will whisk you off of your feet. I had a small hardware issue at a previous stay and they have more then made up for it. By the way construction is done and what a beautiful remodel! The bedding and pillows remind me of my Hilton and Marriott stays.

Comfortable beds; however, I never seemed to get a complete set of towels each day. One day there were no washcloths! Just odd. The free breakfast is typical 2 1/2 star quality. If the hotel is full, there are just enough parking spaces. This is the first hotel in my recollection that would not grant a one-hour late check-out. $35 for an additional hour! The staff was very friendy regardless.

This is the second time I've used Bestwestern Plus and I must say I'm very disappointed ! This one has dusty beddings and most of all , the so called "free wifi" just plainly sucks! The front desk even lied when she told me it's only 15 minute walk from this place to Catalina Express terminal ! When is over 3 mile a 15 minute walk  as I found out by Google maps! Never again !!! Stay away from Bestwestern Hotels ! Pay extra and you get a more descent place you deserved!

We stay here every year while we're in town for the Long Beach Marathon. The location can't be beat! It's walking distance to the convention center, the aquarium, and the start line of the marathon.

We've never had any troubles with our room. It's always been clean and comfy. The staff is friendly. The only thing we don't like is that the room does not have a microwave.
