    Apt style units and a short drive to the beach was the best part of this hotel.  On the downside there is limited parking due to lots of construction going on and their hotel staff is crabby!!  We had to ask for dish soap and drawers were broken on every dresser.  Not once were we pleasantly greeted by the staff, we seemed to be a burden on them.

    For the price -- this place is EXCELLENT!  Love the FREE Internet, the "welcome message from Carlos, the front desk", the full kitchen set-up and COMPLIMENTARY breakfast?!  No wonder it was TOUGH to find parking last night 'cause this place is packed!  :-)  I don't remember Residence Inn by Marriott has this studio set-up -- good to know though!

    2010 Valentines Day for me and my partner was ruined !!!! I planned a nice munch n brunch during the a.m when suddenly the refrigerator began to leak. I got a phone call, then a knock at the door about major plumbing issues in the unit below us as well as ours.  Marriott employees were rude when notifying me of the problem, they didnt offer to comp our room,move our room and the phone calls continued until we checked out...  The munch n brunch was killed.... If you are in this area drive down a little further into seal beach for your visit. Good Luck!!!

    We book about 40 people a month to this motel, and we've always received positive feedback. They just completed a huge renovation, and have one of the best complimentary breakfasts in town. If you are coming to Long Beach on business, this is a great place to stay, and it's about 1 mile from the airport.

    O.k. I tried to book a 2weeks and the CSA anita seemed to be annoyed. I tried to not take it personal but she raised her voiced! And said" I said we don't offer weekly rates unless you have a corporate account"..So I cancelled my reservation and headed to Holiday Inn!.I would rather spend my money somewhere without the attitude..go somewhere else!

    Hotel close to the long beach airport.  Stayed here for one night and I can't really say that I have a lot of complaints.  The rooms are condo-style(?), each room is their own "unit."

    I stayed in the studio room and it was bigger than I had envisioned from the pictures.  (but then again, I was going in with low expectations... so i would definitely say that I was pleasantly surprised.)  The room and bathroom were both neat and tidy.  

    However, the walls did seem a little thin, so if you have loud neighbors coming in and out, you might want to turn on the TV.  But it's not to the level where you're covering your ears with pillows.  Also, there is security for the parking lot at night.

    Overall, I would recommend this place to visitors who don't feel like they need to stay at the Hyatt, but don't want to go to Motel 6.  It's a nice intermediate.

    Excellent hotel. Very large rooms and free breakfast. They allow pets but a very steep $75.00 fee per pet. Hot full breakfast. Very close to airport so jet noise may bother some people but in my opinion it was not a big issue.

    This is a pretty nice place. It's in one of the nicer areas of Long Beach (dunno who said it was in a "run down" area -- it is most definitely not!). It's 10-15 minutes from downtown Long Beach/the beach and it's next to grocery stories, fast food places, gas stations, restaurants, movie theaters, major freeways, hospitals, malls, and more!

    We got the "penthouse suite" with 2 bedrooms (1 is a loft), 2 bathrooms, fully-functional kitchen with utensils, sofa-bed, two ethernet ports. It's actually a really big room with lots of stuff -- 3 HD TVs, chairs, couches, desks, dining table, etc.

    I'm gonna break this down into bullets:
    - Exterior is nice. Lots of condo-style rooms. Huge (FREE) parking lot, although parking gets a little tough late at night.
    - The pool is nice. They have a tennis court which I didn't use. They do have a fitness room which is a little small, but would work in a pinch if you really need a workout.
    - Beds were comfy although a little too soft. Pillows were VERY soft.
    - Most of the staff (especially the people at the front desk) were a little dull. They weren't rude, but definitely were not smiley and engaging.
    - The place definitely didn't seem dirty inside but it looked a little shabby . Carpet and cushions were a little stained. I'm not one of those people who freak out over stains because I know some are impossible to get rid of (especially with kids and pets). No weird smells or anything like that!
    - Interior colors were a little odd. Dark green and dark red. This contributed to the shabby look, in my opinion.
    - Kitchen amenities were great. They gave coffee, tea, creamer, sugar, and popcorn in the "welcome basket." Kitchen included plates, pots, forks/spoon/knives, glasses, microwave, stove/oven, sink, dishwasher, full-sized fridge. They will buy groceries for you (delivery is free of charge) and just charge the bill to your hotel room. Pretty sweet.
    - Bathroom amenities were a little weak. Only one hairdryer, no lotion, soap didn't lather all that much. Towels were rough.
    - Free breakfast was pretty good. It's all premade stuff -- scrambled eggs, pancakes, milk, cereal, potatoes, oatmeal, juice/coffee, waffles, muffins, toast, bagels, sausages, etc.
    - NO WIFI!!! We are in 2011, free wifi needs to be standard everywhere. Not only is there no free wifi, their wired internet isn't all that fast. Maybe 1mbps max.
    - After dark they put a security guard at the front gate who checks everyone who comes in.

    I also brought my dog with me. Their pet policy is, I believe, $100 per stay, non-refundable. I had no issues with anything. They have grass all around the place and two poles with doggy bags. No one was exceptionally nice to my dog, but she was not treated badly and I didn't have issues bringing her anywhere inside the Marriott. I didn't leave her in my hotel room so I can't comment on that.

    I think this is a good hotel at a good price. It's REALLY good for families, people vacationing for a few weeks, or for people who'd rather not waste tons of money eating out all the time (because of the kitchen). I'd definitely stay here again and will check out other Marriott Residence Inns in the future.

    Marriott management is starting to go down hill quick.  I booked this as a rewards reservation.  Nowhere did they tell me they required a $250 security deposit before I booked it or even before I arrived at the property.  OR until he was running my card and casually mentioned it.  NO sign on the counter or on the door.  I have been staying in different hotels across the country for work for the past 2+ years.  NEVER have I seen it that high.  Or even half as high.  NO manager (or any staff that could fix the problem) in the building after hours to remedy the situation and NO resolution after the fact.  Had to stay at a different chain to avoid the $250 charge on my card for a week.  Marriott properties used to be really good.  They are slipping up a lot.

    Great remodeled rooms at great Prices! I have booked lots of business stays, as well as family members rooms here and they are never disappointed. Julie is always friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for accommodations in the area.

    From the outside this place is nothing special. On the inside I was surprised to find a decent sized room with a full kitchen (including fridge).

    The weekend breakfast included scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, fresh waffles (make yourself), coffee, juice, and other types of bagels and muffins.

    All in all this place was worth the month. The BBQ area is spacious and can accommodate several parties.

    Be aware if using your debit card for the room however. They automatically put a $500 hold on it that lasts 7-10 business days! That's kind of ridiculous if you ask me, but other than that I would say it's a good place.

    I had to stay here with my boyfriend for 2 weeks at the expense of our apartment management. It was surprisingly nice accommodations - spacious, super cozy bed, new kitchen appliances. The staff was very accommodating, there's a great little gym with individual flat screens and nice equipment, and there's a nice pool/spa area.

    But the absolute best part that sets this place apart is the free full breakfast every morning (potatoes, eggs, bacon, fresh waffles, yogurt, oatmeal...) and free happy hour M-Th that includes appetizers and all-you-can-drink beer/wine. Awesome.

    My stay was almost more comfortable than my own apartment.

    This past weekend I was in Long Beach for an ex-boyfriend's wedding. The Residence Inn had been suggested as the accommodations for anyone out of town. I took their advice and booked a room there for the weekend. The rooms were nice, with a full kitchen, flat screen tv, free internet, huge closets, and an additional pull out sofa bed.

    The hotel itself had one of the best free breakfasts I have had in a very long time, belgium waffles, eggs, sausage, cereal, fruit, yogurt, juice, potatoes, toast, bagels, etc. They regularily kept the food stocked up to and past the designated hours.

    The hotel was clean, and I wouldn't say the staff was friendly, but they weren't horrible either. My only issue with my whole stay is that parking is hard to come by at night. Both nights of my stay I had to park on the complete opposite side of the property. At one point if someone hadn't of left when I was coming, there wouldn't have been a single parking space available.

    I would definitely stay here again, it is literally 3 minutes from the airport which is an added bonus.

    I'm honestly between a 2 and a 3 star and I will state the reasons why.

    So the room is a lot bigger than I expected. The kitchen is as shown and really does include all the things that you may need if you were staying there longer than just a few days. The bed was comfortable and the HD TV is a plus. On the down side, the bathroom needs some help. It was somewhat small and really, the carpet looked like it needed replacing. The room as structure, seemed run down and uncared for.

    The service was okay. It's not like I ran into any issues. There was security during the night but then again it was NYE in LB. There was plenty of parking so it wasn't an issue for us at all.

    There is a breakfast that is free and served for a few hours. It's decent and really, can you complain about free breakfast?

    Overall, it was okay but I wouldn't come back to this one. I found that being that there was this "debit card note" stating that they take a deposit off the debit card -- something funky like that (read the other person's review that is in here) was just weird and made me feel like I couldn't even trust this place. Another thing was the party policy. I don't know if it was just because it was NYE but they made sure to post everything about no partying policy in the lobby and in the stuff that they gave you the key in, etc. It was just extreme.

    It was okay but I wouldn't come here again. Then again, you get what you pay for, right?

    I had a lot of family coming in for my Wedding at the end of July. I live in Long Beach and this place was so convenient! Everyone in my family had a great time and loved the complimentary Breakfast AND Dinner options that they had. Even though it is next to the freeway it was not too loud. The rooms were great for the family to gather, and on the day of my wedding, in the penthouse suites there was plenty of room for myself and 5 of my bridesmaids to do hair & makeup.

    My Mom set up the reservations for our whole family and she felt like the staff was very pleasant to work with. Next time my Husband and I have any sort of event in Long Beach where we would need to block off rooms, Residence Inn Long Beach will be our first choice!

    When my friends and I got into our room, it looked like the hotel was only half cleaned.  There was trash from the last person, a toothbrush, bed wasn't made, and a towel draped over the door.  After a long day, it would have been nice to have all that stuff done so we can relax right away.

    What was nice is that they have complimentary breakfast in the morning.  Also nice that each unit has a kitchen.

    Just spent two nights here in a two-bedroom 'penthouse suite'.

    Aside from the usual too much noise from the freeway and airport complaints, this was a great place to stay.  The front desk was very courteous and helpful.  The room(s) were clean, well-appointed, and comfortable.  The grounds appeared well-maintained.  The breakfast was typical for a place like this.

    We would stay here again.

    Stayed here cause it was a cheap hotel for when we went to a wedding.

    They have security cause I guess it's near an event center and people try to park there for free. You have to tell them your name and room number when you drive in. I felt pretty good about it because the neighborhood didn't look all that welcoming at night. Good location though as you are not from from a CVS, Trader Joe's and restaurants.

    Studio was nicely decorated, a lot more modern than I expected. Cleaned and ready for us when we checked in. The full kitchen comes in handy when you're on a budget and don't want to eat out every meal. We bought some groceries and were good to go.

    The complimentary breakfast include both hot and cold items which is nice. Sometimes you have to have eggs and sausage and other times cereal is enough. They have a nice patio seating area too so you can enjoy breakfast outdoors when the weather is nice.

    I would definitely recommend this place.

    Kudos to the great staff at this hotel...especially the front desk staff (Nancy Ann, Eric and David).   My penthouse suite took a little bit longer to get ready so they gave me a drink and snack while I waited.  They also called a cab to shuttle my 5 girls to the airport when their shuttle was unavailable with no cost to me.  Their breakfast was more than complete and room was awesome...so large and modern.  The staff was so accommodating.  They were very busy but tried so hard to make everyone happy.  I will definitely use this hotel again.  Thank you for a great stay !!!

    On the outside it looks like a pretty descent place.  Walked into the front lobby to this very rude front desk girl.  She started off with an attitude problem.  Like damm what the f**k crawled up your pants!!  Geez lady I don't think this is a place you should work at, seems you hate your job that bad.

    Most...actually all Marriott hotels I've been too, has always have happy, cheery front desk staff.  This location in particular is another story.  Hated this place the moment I step foot into it.  It was too late to look for a different place.  Due to some braker problems at my place, there was no electricity till an electrician can come out.  But since it was a Sunday, most are close so I have to wait till the morning.  

    They need to replace there carpet.  Very dirty and disgusting.  You won't see stains unless you move the sofas over or open up the sofa bed.  So now I'm stuck at this place with horrible staff.  I wouldn't even give this place a star but yelp requires at least 1 star!  Would never come back here again.

    My first choice in hotel when I stay in Long Beach for work.  Love the suites, which means I had enough room to study AND to work on sewing my halloween costume last week.  When I stay here, I get the option of cooking for myself rather than eating out all the time, since they have a fridge, stove, oven, coffee maker, toaster, and pots and pans galore!  

    + kitchen amenities
    + complimentary breakfast
    + hospitality hour, which consists of snacks, wine, and beer
    + great customer service (they came to my room at 2:30am to fix my toilet, which I did not break, by the way)
    + and the coolest thing, their gym, while not big, comes with an individual tv for each cardio machine!!!! SCORE!!!!
    + dinner mint on my pillow (haha :) )

    P.S.  Only some rooms have fireplaces, so if you want one, make sure to specify!

    "Good enough" place to stay... road noise in my part of the property was pretty high and it was impossible to "air out" my unit.  Only the window in the upper bedroom would open 2.5 inches.  The remaining windows are permanently shut.  I opened that window and had the front door open for an hour and it did nothing to get rid of the kitchen garbage can smell that was plaguing me.  Luckily, I wasn't stuck in my room very much.  I had a better stay here the last time and was a little disappointed things weren't better.

    I found the inn very nice. The rooms were spacious and had kitchens with pots and pans, basically everything you would need to cook or bake, had to stop the gf from making brownies. The continatil breakfast was nice, waffles, eggs, sausage and many other good things. I would definitly stay here again, especailly for the price. The gym was good, tread mills and free weights, good enough for a hotel. Con, very hot in the gym room. Bed is stiff, desk staff are very friendly, parking was great, had a night security guard, pool was nice-towels at pool, and jaccuzi worked nice.

    Reserved the two bedroom penthouse suite for my bday weekend.  I thought they would charge the $250 deposit.  They did not!  There wasn't an additional hold or anything.  The rooms seem sound proof.  I had a bunch of people over and music playing, yet you couldn't hear it from the outside.  Even though someone complained anyway (haters) the security was really cool and just told us to keep the door closed so no noise could be heard from outside.  Love this hotel and will definitely come back!

    We stay here several times per year while visiting friends in the area.  We have found that the 2 bedroom suites are perfect when we are traveling with another couple and visiting friends in the area.

    Even being next to the 504, we have found that the rooms are quiet. The staff is always friendly, the grounds are well maintained, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the most important thing to us is that the beds and pillows are very comfortable.   With the rooms being more like a condo, you don't hear kids running up and down the halls or doors slaming as other people come and go like in a typical hotel.  We always get a good nights sleep.

    Though we seldom take advantage of it, the complimentary breakfast selection is quiet substantial and the food is decent.  Just make sure you get there early or you may end up waiting for a table if you don't want to take it back to the room.

    Price wise, for us, a good nights sleep is priceless when traveling.

    Stayed here for 3 nights and 4 days for the Crossfit So-Cal Regionals. For one, we got a group discount because there were several of us that all needed rooms.  Right when we checked in the agent told us about their "Hospitality Hour" which included free beer and wine with sandwiches! DAMN! We ran a train on those beers and had around 2 pitchers!

    The rooms are also very nice. There was a king-size bed, two different desks and free wi-fi! Our room was cleaned everyday and there was a fridge and stove with oven!

    So happy with our stay. Will definitely stay there again if give the chance.

    Clean , modern room. everything you might need for business or pleasure trip. Desk people were very friendly, and helpful. Park next to your suite. Very close to the LB airport. Only complaint, bed was like sleeping on cement.

    Nice hotel if you are staying 5+ nights (if not, its a bit pricey). The pool and hot tub is nice as long as its not crowded. Breakfast and dinners were good, but dinners were only served Monday - Wednesday. Wine and beer are included ;-)
    The rooms are plenty spacious with three closets! Rooms are up to date and clean with full kitchens.
    I did have a bad smell from the garbage disposal, but when I called the front desk, maintenance came up with 10 minutes poured some cleaner down it and it was all good.
    Service is good!

    Make sure to get a first floor room or you'll be hauling your luggage up the stairs (no elevators)

    I can't believe I haven't written a review of the Residence Inn before.

    When I visit family in Long Beach, this is where I always stay.  It's spitting distance from the airport and right off the 405 at the Lakewood Avenue exit-easy access.

    The service has always been superb, in my experience.  They are professional and friendly.  I feel taken care of every time I stay here.  (My one quibble is that check-in time isn't until 4:00 p.m., but that's not their fault.  If you let them know you're coming early, they'll try to get you an early check-in.)

    I've stayed in their studios and in their two-bedroom penthouses.  The latter has a bedroom downstairs and a loft bedroom upstairs, and each has its own full bathroom and television.  (There's also a TV in the living room, for heaven's sake.)  They're nice-looking and quite comfortable (there are so many pillows that I make a pillow fort whenever I'm there and watch TV in bed...heaven.)  I've never had a problem with noise.  I sleep like a baby here.

    Both types of units have kitchens well-stocked with utensils, dishes, etc.  I've made a boatload of potato salad for a family reunion in one of the kitchens--how nice it was to have that available.  (Brought my own boat-sized bowl for that.)

    Internet access is free, and there are nice workspaces in every unit I've been in.

    The outside of the motel, as others have observed, isn't fancy, but I've never had any issues with safety, and the inside belies the plain exterior.

    The breakfasts are wonderful.  They have a large selection of food, with hot food, including meat.  (We like meat.)  They also have a small store where you can pick up a few grocery items.

    When I first discovered this Residence Inn about three years ago, I recommended it to other members of my extended family.  They tried it and are all as enthusiastic as I.  It's really terrific to have a place that's close to the airport and the freeway where a dozen or so folks from all over the country can convene.

    The prices are quite reasonable.

    I'm a fan of Marriott generally, and Residence Inns specifically, and this Residence Inn in particular.

    Cool hotel for extended stays. Some folks have complained about road noise because it is right next to the 405 and a couple of busy roads, but I must say that staying in the building right next to the lobby I haven't been disturbed.

    Potential noise problems aside, the rooms are nice and big and they offer a decent breakfast and complimentary drinks and snacks (almost an actual dinner) in the evening. Friendly staff and relatively convenient location. Also some of the fastest free hotel wifi I've seen in all my travels.

    Wow! I've stayed at three different marriott branches here and never felt so welcomed and convenience  as here! A fortune cookie w price, very active social hour w free good food n beer/wine, ....etc. Also, they paid for cab to n from airport. LB Renaissance was rude except for one guy. LB Marriott ok and great gym but not compared to this!

    Stayed here with wife and son for three days and was very satisfied. I received the government rate, so the value was awesome. The room was large and clean with full kitchen. Staff was friendly and very accommodating. Breakfast and dinner are complimentary during the week with wine and beer available for the latter. My only complaint is the dining area does become quite hectic at meal time, so arrive early and you should be ok.

    Bottom line- perfect for a small family (with pet). Highly recommended.

    Nice clean modern rooms. It was perfect for my little family. The pool was cold but the baby still had fun.

    Parking was terrible because of graduation weekend. People sure packed a lot of,people in those rooms so there were a lot of cars. Also a lot of parties that weekend. We did not appreciate being called at midnight by Tito to be told we were warned 3 times to be quiet or they were going to call the police. We were all asleep as well as our baby.

    It would probably be the perfect hotel if it wasn't for being a crazy weekend.

    very convenient and spacious lodgings. i stay here once yearly for 5 days with 3 students while attending a yearbook class at cal state long beach, and this inn has everything we need. my students spread out in the loft and the pull out bed, breakfast is included (and it's not just muffins). nice to have a full kitchen and a pool, as well as 3 TVs.

    my one complaint is that the beds are SUPER soft, so my low back developed shooting pains. i even resorted to sleeping on the floor to get some relief, but that is me and my mattress preferences, and i know some people like a soft bed.

    regardless of the bed and my back pains, we will return here next year.

    Overpriced, but of course what do you expect. The place smells like smoke and they ran out of breakfast like 3 times. They need to plan for what they book. Also, parking sucks if you do not arrive early. You will have to park down the street which is a bit ghetto. Next time I would spend an extra $20 at a nicer hotel.

    I love Marriott and have been a loyal customer for almost a decade, but I've never stayed at a Residence Inn.  Other than the fact that I only get 5 points per $1 (instead of 10 points); I was thoroughly impressed at my experience.  I stayed at a loft-style suite and it was clean, spacious and quiet; gave me the sense that I had my own apartment.  Not to mention, there was complimentary breakfast buffet every morning.

    Great hotel. I have been here a few times, and it never ceases to impress.

    The rooms are big, comfortable, and full of amenities. You have a full kitchen, with stove top, oven, microwave, dishwasher, and a full size fridge. It is like living in a small apartment.

    The also offer a complimentary hot breakfast, with plenty of options. A outdoor barbeque pit that is available for all to use, a pool, and close by to the 405. A nice gym and onsite laundromat as well.

    It is also close by to everything, malls, groceries, restaurants and pretty much anything you will need.

    If you want to live in a hotel that feels like being in a home, where you can cook, shop, etc. - it doesn't get much better than this. However, this is not a like being in Ritz Carlton, but that is a different type of experience altogether. For the price and the amenities, I would get this hotel all the time.

    Did a Hotel Christmas this year and the Residence Inn on Willow in Long Beach was the chosen location.

    We had a loft penthouse. Queen bed in the loft and Queen bed downstairs with kitchen and living area. We also had dogs with us. There was an area specifically for dog walks with grass and a 'designated' dog area as our neighbors also had dogs.

    I do recommend asking for a downstairs unit, if you have any problems with stairs as there is not an elevator.

    Parking was free and easy.
    Breakfast every morning until 9am, and they even have additional days where they offer dinner or snacks, check the schedule. The breakfast was decent. Don't come at the last minute as that's when everyone will try to rush in and it can get crowded.

    Great rate. We used the AAA discount. Also received Marriott reward points.

    The staff was pleasant and efficient.
    No complaints here! Definitely looking at revisiting next year.

    I am in Long Beach on business and this location is super convenient to where I need to go.  Right off the expressway but does not feel like it.

    The rooms are clean and comfortable but a bit dated.  This suits me and my needs perfectly.

    The room is condo-like with a full sized fridge, stove top and microwave.  I love this set up so that I can have food and snacks in the room.  Makes for a much better workweek.

    The staff is very friendly and competent.

    This is a typical Residence Inn breakfast which again suits my needs perfectly.  The coffee machine in the lobby is available 24 hours but you can also make a pot of coffee in your room.

    The Wi-Fi Internet service worked beautifully all week.  The work/desk area was convenient to use.

    The rooms are quiet and had no complaints about other guests at the hotel.

    I did discover a less than perfectly clean couple of dishes in the cabinet.  This and the fact that they were out of regular dish soap all week were the only downsides.  Automatic dish detergent for the dishwasher was readily available at the front desk.

    This place is great for families, pets, business, solos and couples.

    In general, good enough.  But there were problems when one room in our group checked out and the other didn't.  The room which didn't check out had to get their keys recoded.

    Also, when the maids cleaned the room, they didn't leave bath towels.

    If modern sanitised immaculate rooms is a priority do not stay here. If you want to walk into the lobby that great names after walked there before, take in the history, admire the surroundings yes of past grandeur but still of relevance then this hotel is a must. No our room windows weren't double glazed but original sash aren't. Very friendly service from reception and a helpful concierge. Great downtown location. Good start to what was a fantastic USA holiday.

    I stayed here before taking off on my cruise last year..

    First, it was very reasonably priced for a suite. I'm talking under $100 for a suite. I really liked the suite too. The only thing that got me was the service. When we first arrived the issue was the toilet. It wasn't working and was clogged. I called the front desk for them to bring towels and for someone to come fix it. The Plumber finally came about 30-40 minutes later. They never brought the towels, since our bathroom floor was completely wet. We had to call them again for them. Also, there was some type of deposit that they apparently charge on your card and will get reimbursed after you check out. They don't even have a set price on how much the deposit is. Is it $30, $100? Who knows. Then it takes a few days to get back on your card apparently.

    I really liked the room, not so much the service or fees. The whole thing was a meh... On a brighter note though, free breakfast with your stay! =)

    The only reason this is a 3 star review is because of the RUDE front desk attendant Nancy Ann. Right off the bat, she gave attitude, was not welcoming, and seemed like she didn't care to help us. Not cool, especially for a hotel chain who's customer service is usually awesome. Nancy Ann sucked. Plain and simple.

    Rest of facilities are good, clean, and affordable. If you stay here, pray Nancy Ann doesn't check you in.

    This hotel was roughly 1/2 the price of other comparable hotels in the area which is why we booked it. I was delightfully surprised to see the rooms had recently been redone on the inside- stainless steel appliances, newer kitchen wares etc. The lobby is still a bit dingy but I didn't spend any time there.

    The AC in my room was amazing, I set it low getting ready to sleep and had to back it off a bit as it quickly became too frigid. There is a 24 hour subway, a sushi place, and a meh Mexican restaurant right nextdoor if you need food.

    I am a frequent guest at the Residence in by Marriott throughout the US.  I stayed here May 20th.  The hotel was over run by homeless and I suspect gang members staying at the hotel.  Apparently, government subsidized.  I was uncomfortable and unable to utilized the services of the hotel, the breakfast and the beer and wine hour or pool.  The room was adequate and clean.  I paid $200 although the website indicated $169 for the same room.

    i've gotta preface this review with: if/when i give a "one star" review, it means i had an overwhelmingly negative experience, and tried to resolve it fairly--to no avail.  very few places are all-bad ... but when a business overcharges me (a lot) and refuses to take responsibility and/or fix their mistake--they get a one-star review from me.  lol probably not the end-of-the-world for marriott or this residence inn, but with hope, if someone else reads my review--it will steer them away from this place.

    this hotel has the normal residence inn features and benefits.  the property is a little past-due for renovation ... but they're good about maintaining what's there.  it's a decent location if you're driving.  it's safe, surprisingly quiet for being adjacent to the freeway--and the enlisted staff is friendly, nice and professional.

    that being said, if you stay at this residence inn--watch the charges on your credit card and make sure discrepancies are resolved immediately.  again, the staff is nice, but they have an above average number of excuses, e.g., "that's not my job", "that's someone else's fault", and/or deflection of blame instead of fixing the problem.  

    i stayed at this residence inn for several [+/-8] months while work was being done on my house--and it was about the best place to relocate, until i figured out that the 'good' rate they were giving me--was offset by inexplicable charges to my credit card.

    i tried for months to straighten out billing discrepancies with the management, but most all i got was excuses, e.g., 'we're short handed', and/or 'we'll fix/take care of that' ... but they wouldn't follow through, even though they agreed that the 'accounting' didn't add up.  there'd be strange activity on my credit card--but the hotel staff wouldn't explain why, if, or how it addressed my concerns.  

    eventually, i called the marriott corporate offices to ask for help, albeit via complaining.  they were quick to respond and were good at sweet talk and being understanding, "we appreciate your business", and were very generous with conditional apologies ... but they offered no viable resolution.  

    i don't like complaining, and wasn't looking for someone to "listen to me"--i wanted the problem fixed.  eventually, i was told: "that hotel is a "franchise" and marriott has no control over the hotel's billing".  

    when i asked the hotel about the billing irregularities, i was told "marriott corporate controls the billing", and the hotel has nothing to do with it (the same excuse of "that's not our fault/we can't do anything about it").  

    after months trying to correct their mistake (amounting over a thousand dollars), all i got was apologies--and a "don't let the door hit you on the way out" attitude + an offer some extra marriott points--which (guess i'm not surprised) were never credited to my 'marriott rewards' account.   the 'points' thing is not a big deal--just another indication of this property's poor customer service and the poor communication between marriott corporate and their franchises.  if they'll cheat me, disabled with a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and a service dog--watch out for yourselves.

    i don't wanna come-off as 'bitter', but it boggles my mind that a 'hospitality' business, would be so inhospitable ... even to the point of losing a loyal customer.  like i wrote at the beginning of this 'review', this residence inn was a place for me to relocate ... but when someone 'steals' from me--they lose my business.

    My family of three stayed at the Residence Inn during a 4 day weekend in the LA area.  We flew into John Wayne, and wanted a place between SNA and downtown LA, but also had a bit more of a home like feel.  This place not only fit all of those needs, but also was reasonable priced.  If you are flying into Long Beach airport, it's even more convenient being down the street.  Overall the grounds were clean, and the rooms modern.  My son also had a blast swimming in the pool.  The only downside I might point out is depending on where your room is located, it might be a bit noisy from the airport and a car wash.  The breakfast area can become a bit dirty and under replenished during the busier weekend times.  Everything considered, this was a great value for us during out stay, and will definitely consider it on our future travels to the LA area.
