Not bad for the price. It was dated but clean and worked well for a quick nights stay close to the airport.

Oh great, land a cheap hotel with a cool name then get in a fender bender trying to leave!   Actually, looks like the hill was shaved down flat, huh?  A whole lot tamer than I last remember...

Okay past tense:  Los Coyotes Diagonal aka Traffic Circle, a blip along Pacific Coast Highway was like riding a highly unmanageble wave with vehicular projectiles spewing forth, no turning back, drivers trying to catch the wave, peeing in their pants, horrified by engineering based on that centrifugal ride where you get stuck to the fuggin' sides and your top flies open.  Yeah this is dumb, but so was Traffic Circle and the people in it when they went fast on a road intended for granny speed.  It's all about timing.  And if you get stuck in there more than 2 revolutions, I don't even wanna hear it.

Well, at least pigeons can use it without getting lost--more useless trivia...look it up, pigeons, traffic, circles.

Stayed here recently for one night when my family and I needed lodging before an early morning flight.  It's really close to the airport.  The room was large and clean.  I was impressed with the number of amenities for a Super 8.  There are several restaurants close by as well.

Participated in the Long Beach Marathon the weekend of Oct 11 - 12 and needed to stay only one Saturday night. From the moment of calling in to reserve a room until checking out I experienced great, efficient, helpful customer service from the front desk. Kham, in particular, was very helpful.

My past experiences with Super 8's have been 'hit or miss'. This property is a definite hit! Paid $90 for the one night stay in a king bed room on the first floor with sliding glass door to patio area and pool.

Located near a major intersection along the Pacific Coast Highway and across the street from a large hospital. Did not have any problems with noise while sleeping- and I consider myself a light sleeper. Nearby was a Ralph's supermarket I picked up groceries and also ate at In-N-Out Burgers across from Ralph's. Took adavantage of the Long Beach Transit one block away- which was literally and figuratively "easy like a Sunday morning!"  Rode busline at 630am Sunday getting to downtown where the race start/finish was.

The property is not new but functional for my one night stay. The carpeting is older but clean. Bathroom shower head a bit lower (about 5'8" high) than you may be used to but had great water pressure and satisfied my need. They offer breakfast which I did not utilize.

Overall a great place to consider staying if you are not looking for a full-service hotel!

Really, this should have rated 1.5 stars.  Not sure if it's gone downhill since the previous reviewers posted but this was a pretty bad experience overall, even for a Super 8.  Our "non-smoking" room smelled like stale cigarettes, mildew, and melancholy.  The carpet was also mysteriously damp all over...we kept our flip-flops on the whole time.

We avoided staying in our room as much as possible because of the odor.  The place was booked full, so we couldn't switch rooms.  Some friends of ours were staying in the Vagabond Inn nearby for a similar price but they had stench-free rooms and dry carpet.  The only advantage we had was the hot tub, which was nice, but that didn't make up for the smell on our clothes when we got home.

Stayed here overnight after arriving at Long Beach airport. Easy to find after a short drive. The staff were really helpful and efficient and pleasant to deal with. The room was large and clean, could easily have stayed in it for a few nights. The pool area looked great and the complimentary breakfast was nicely laid out with a fair amount of choices. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if flying into Long Beach

The staff took good care of me during my stay. Housekeeping made sure my room was in the best shape possible. Overall the hotel could use some updating but for $58 a night off of priceline I can't complain too much.

This place is dirty and felt dangerous.  My first night a large wet spot on the carpet got my feet wet.  The bedding was old and obviously well used with stains on the sheets.  Just down the walkway was a room with two gangsters staying there with their scantily clad hooker female.  They were loud and so was the car stereo on their lowered gold cadillac.  The locks on the gates were broken, another sign on criminal activity in the area.  Just down the street there were lots of shady looking characters hanging out on the street corners.  Overall, a dirty motel in a disgusting armpit of an area.  Check the online crime stats for the surrounding area - lots of murders!  I honestly believe the management must post fake positive reviews for this place.

If you are looking for a better quality hotel this is the one to go to. This is so much better than the Days Inn a couple of miles down. When we arrived the lobby area was really big, if you make it to happy hour they have a few snacks like popcorn, chips, soda to drink, and wine!

When I arrived I was surprised to see how huge our room was. It was big enough to walk around in as compared to the room we got at Days Inn where we had to squeeze through small areas to go to bed.

The layout of the rooms can get confusing at first we had a hard time trying to find the room but they told us it was around towards the back facing the Porsche dealership. There were more parking spots even ones that were towards the wall just in case the ones near the rooms were full.

Trying to find the street to get into the motel is a bit of a challenge but it took us a few times to realize which streets to take to get back to the motel, I don't understand why they made an island so you can't turn left when driving the opposite direction.

The shower and everything else was really nice, the TV had a ton of channels more than most hotels back home. The guy at the front desk was very helpful and very friendly, he gave us helpful directions on how to get to the Queen Mary. Overall this hotel was probably the best one for the price in Long Beach.

I stay here at the Super 8 often for business. It is like my home away from home.

I recommend this motel if you are on a budget but do not want to end up in a dirty "no-tell motel". It's worth paying a little extra than a Motel 6 because of the staff, amenities and cleanliness.

The Staff - The Manager Edwin is a gem! The rest of the staff including housekeeping and front desk are always helpful.

The Rooms - Every room I have encountered is very clean and large. The decor is not modern but I prefer cleanliness over aesthetics. Each room is furnished with mini fridge and coffee maker. Free wireless internet! Bathrooms are updated and the towels smell fresh and feel soft. Rooms have shared balcony or patio that view the pool area and lush vegetation. I have never had problems with noise the walls are thick.

The Lobby - Decor is somewhat dated but lobby is large where guests can lounge on couches and chairs. There is a computer/printer and Flat Screen TV that is hooked up to a Wii. There is a microwave and a vending machine with normal variety of choices.

Continental Breakfast - Available 6am to 10am I like the variety including cereals, oatmeal, toast, bagels, cream cheese, jams, peanut butter, danish, donuts, muffins, fresh fruit, juices, coffee (with many different flavored cream) tea, and waffle maker. I love being able to grab breakfast before work and watch the news on the flat screen.

Happy Hour - 5pm to 8pm self serve chips, popcorn, pretzels, sodas and wine!

Pool Area - Secluded by many trees which is nice since the motel faces a somewhat busy street. You wouldn't know it though. The pool is large and there is a separate section (2 ft deep) for little kidletts to play. The jacuzzi is in a covered area and there is a sauna (I have not tried)

Lunch and Dinner - If you are staying in and don't want to leave to get food I recommend ordering dinner from Big-E's Pizza they deliver until 2am their pizza is great you can even get a full rib dinner if you want to they also deliver beer and wine. Otherwise make your way to the Pike Downtown Long Beach where the night life is about 5 miles away from the motel.

I stayed here for 4 nights at the end of October 2012 and was quite satisfied.  The room and bathroom were clean, it has a nice pool and jacuzzi (and sauna too, although I didn't make use of it).  The front desk was helpful and friendly and the breakfast a larger spread than the continentals you get at many places (several different cold cereals, oatmeal, bagels, bread, pastries, waffles, fruit), and the dining area was clean.  Breakfast was officially 5-10, but on the weekend he manager actually had it out to 11, which I appreciated. They also had some evening refreshments, although I was never there at that time to see how that was.   The manager was also helpful when I needed some glue to fix my shoe.

I agree with another reviewer that the pillows were on the lumpy side, but I didn't find it uncomfortable, I slept well here.  The only negative thing I can say is that the bottom of the tub had a number of cracks in it and would do well to be replaced, although it certainly didn't affect my ability to take a shower.  Also the jacuzzi was HEAVILY chlorinated- My mom and I both felt the need to take a shower afterwards to get the excess chlorine off.  Oh, and I had to call the front desk to get the phone turned on to be able to make outside calls.  But these are minor things.  For the $60/night that I paid,  I would definitely stay here again!

Cheap . 2 people = $75.00 cash no C.C. needed.  Room was old and dirty. Shitty area of town. Shitty tv, luckily my car didn't get broken into! My room was by the stairs and was very noisy from 5-7 am !  Will NOT be returning

Stayed here the night before our cruise.  Clean and came with a decent continental breakfast.   The layout is a little funk and maybe a touch on the dark side,  but is suspect that might be because they are built on a hill.   Overall,  I would stay again when I am in the area.

We stayed at Super 8 Long Beach for a the St. Patrick's Day /  LA marathon  weekend. The location was perfect, only minutes away from everything in Long Beach.  We stayed in a 2 king bed room. There was plenty of extra room to set up a pack n' play for our 11 month old.  The motel is definitely older, but it is kept up pretty nicely. The carpet seemed to be pretty new and very clean. Every member of staff that we had interactions with were very helpful and friendly.
The pool and spa were GREAT! Our room had a slider that directly accessed the pool area. It was perfect. The continental breakfast was very good. It was great to walk out of our room and directly upstairs for some yummy breakfast. There were Belgian waffles, cereal, oatmeal, bagels, pastries, fresh fruit, milk, juices, and coffee. It was perfect.
My only complaint was our room was located directly below the front office/breakfast area. The one morning we planned on sleeping in, we were awoken somewhat early (6:30am) by the sounds of shuffling chairs and feet upstairs at the breakfast area. It is a small con, but figured worth mentioning. I believe rooms 101 and 102 are under the breakfast area, so if you plan on sleeping in, I'd request different rooms.
We would definitely recommend this motel to friends staying in the area. We will use this motel again during our next visit to Long Beach. It was a super great deal!

For a mo mo, can't complain. Made a great over night pit stop while attending a local venue. Better safe than sorry! They were the cheapest in the area. Most places where anywhere from $150 and up a night. This place was about $90 a night. Taxi cab showed up in less than 5 min.

The best value in Long Beach.  The management makes an extra effort to make your stay pleasant and comfortable.  Even though it had been about 2 yrs since my last stay, the manager still remembered me from when I was a more frequent guest.  They offer snacks and adult beverages during the dinner hours and have a nice breakfast in the morning.  The pool and jacuzzi area is private and inviting.  I love the location.  This place is always my first choice when I'm in the area.

Yes, they have waffles for breakfast, and that's going to save you some $ and time instead of having to go out to breakfast.  They have a happy hour - but it's with boxed wine.  Dude, there is seriously better wine that doesn't break the bank.  The red was in the same league as overly-sweet Manischevitz.  If you have a business emergency and need to print out a document, they told me that they won't print over ten pages.  What utter tripe.  I had to go to Staples down the street to print out an important document that is all of 12 pages.  There were stains on the carpet.  I expected so much more when it was rated 4 out of 5 on Trip Advisor.  On the upside, they invested in buying 35 inch screen TVs, strong internet, and fan-folding towels and tissues to match the 90s wallpaper in the bathroom.  I would rather have better wine and a business center which allows me to print out documents on an emergency basis.  I would prefer they tried to restore the rooms to their 1950s mid-century glory.  The ceiling of the front desk/lobby entrance is wood.  Wood!  Who does that kind of thing anymore?  No one.  It is really beautiful and they should do more to bring it out.

The rooms here look like they still have the original furnishing, all from 1970. My room had that "old" smell to it. Geez they really should do something about that. Ever heard of Febreeze? The carpet was old, ripped in a few places, lots of bubbles in it, low pile almost berber-like, icky shade of brown. There were these old looking lamps, circa 1980. And a creepy looking octagon table and an even more creepy looking burgundy vinyl chair and ottoman. Seriously, the room looked like the furniture we all had when I was a kid. I swear one of my friends had that exact dining room table. The bathroom looked like the counter had been redone.

The room was clean and the front desk staff is really nice. But otherwise this place sucked. It's old, dingy, dumpy, smelly, and the pictures online look nothing like real life. What a surprise!

The pool looked nice. Didn't go in. Tried the hot tub which was good but is really really shallow. You sit and are barely up to chest deep water. Not my favorite kind of tub. Oh and there was a couple in there who live nearby and just come over to use the hot tub. Hmmm I wonder if the staff know that.

This Super 8 is no where near my top of great hotels. It does however, top my list of bad hotels. ha ha ha

The rooms are large and clean but very dated. Good price. The only drawback is the breakfast location. It's a very small area and we ended up on a sofa trying to balance our waffles on our lap. I suggest tossing the couches and adding more tables and chairs.

I came here a second time and stayed by myself. The hotel is slowly slipping away from what it was. The guy who checked me in couldn't tell me if the room was smoking or non smoking, the carpet in the room had large stains all over it, and the bagels at breakfast were rock hard.

I have stayed here twice this year because of its proximity to LGB airport. When you rate a hotel, you have to take into consideration what type of establishment it is. This is an economic choice. With that being said, the rooms were larger than I expected. This location is near many food options. There is a local grocery store, and many fast food and restaurant options. It is also near an office supply, beauty supply, and a car wash to name a few. Downtown to the Pike off of Pine is just a short trip to a nice view of the water with more restaurants and a huge cineplex.

My room in February was perfectly clean. My room in March left me with a bit of doubt. There was something smooshed on the floor in the bathroom under the sink that I avoided. Also, the March bathroom toilet kept running and I had to lift the lid to stop it from running. Other than that, the refrigerator and microwave were clean. I don't recall my room in February having a microwave, so if you need one you should inquire.

The desk staff is fine. My February check-in had a very nice employee. My March check-in employee was indifferent. Both check-outs were exceptional, and they invited me back. The March check out employee invited me to enjoy their free breakfast spread as he prepared my paperwork.

Your stay will be what you make of it. The cleaning staff seemed very attentive. I was asked if I wanted my room cleaned and I said no. I am sure if I pointed out the bathroom floor it would have been cleaned instantly. I had no problem with the rate I booked online. I always bring my computer confirmation print out. I would stay here again.

If you can afford a better hotel do NOT stay here.
    - It's cheap
    - It's close to the airport and CSU LB
    - The room I stayed in was clean

    -It's in a bad neighborhood
    -It's old and outdated
-Their late night happy hour consists of a few bowls of chips and a box of wine
-The rooms are old and dingy
    -The bed is not comfortable
    -The bathroom is tiny
-The toilet is the weakest flushing toilet I have ever encountered (use your imagination)
-The hot water randomly goes from warm to super hot during your shower

Spend a few extra bucks and stay somewhere nice

I stayed at this hotel multiple times over a 3 month period while I was in Long Beach. You can tell the owner (Mr. Edwin) really takes pride in the place and has his staff trained well!

It's my favorite place to stay n long beach, big flat screen tv's, wIFI IS FREE strong wifi signal (they have like 9 routers so there is no "bad room"- the housekeeping actually really clean the rooms and even take the time to fold your toilet paper into a little fan- I mean I'm a dude and I was like "whoa"

The Ac blows cold, and some rooms have fridges and microwaves- they have a REAL BREAKFAST EVERY MORNING- Big fat belgian waffle maker, all kinds of cereal, pastries, bagel, bread, coffee, apple juice- Like I said a REAL breakfast.

The swimming pool is clean and there a jacuzzi- The rooms are well insulated I dont remember having problems with loud noise- Its located near everything Ralphs grocery, In n out burger, a Porsche dealership haha

After about 3 stays, the Owner "Mr.E" knew me on a first name basis and made me feel like he really valued my business. It's rare these days that you get what you pay for, and are happy to pay. It's even more rare that I have a positive review to give. I stayed there over 20 times, and queen and king rooms and they are all nice. It really is the best bargain n Long Beach, and even if you plan on going to Disneyland its not far. I could g onand on but this is a great hotel.  Don't take my word for it, go show up on a Saturday without a reservation and you will see they are booked 100%, because ots the best kept secret in Long Beach- hell I didn't even write this review until I moved because I didnt want everyone to know hhaaha

I was not paid to write this, I am not an employee or schill in any way, I just really have to give Mr. E and his whole staff down to the cleaning crew their full, true, and proper respect.

We stayed here while we visited Los Angeles.  The area didnt seem bad, heck this place is right next to a Porsche dealership. Again I was fine with this place just as long as it didnt have bed bugs which it didn't, thank goodness...

There's an outdoor pool that had a deep end (I think it was 12 ft deep).  There's also an outdoor jacuzzi.  They also provide breakfast.   +1 for having a waffle maker also.

There's also a shopping area nearby.  We were able to walk to it but be careful with the traffic bc I dont think there were crossing lights.  (In-N-Out is nearby!!!! )

Also there is a parking space right outside your room door.   The only minor minor problem was that the room had this weird old smell to it but it wasn't an issue.

    This place is awesome!!
Happy hour from 5-8pm. No bar, but sodas for the kids, and boxed wine for the grown ups. Oh, and chips and popcorn. Which is friggin' AWESOME!! I mean, seriously, how many places will give you cheap wine and chips? None! (By the way, the boxed wine they had wasn't bad, not bad at all)

And free breakfast! A REAL breakfast! Juice! Milk! Waffles! Never stayed at a place that had a waffle maker! COOL!

Aside from the free goodies, parking spot in front of the door. Decor is beautiful. Landscaping is neato-skeeto! Bed was comfortable, linens were clean. Towels were big and covered my butt, and they took the time to fan fold the towels. Bed was super comfy. Room came with a fridge and a little coffee maker.

Deep pool, heated; jacuzzi, heated! They have a sauna too, but considering it was only 95,000 degrees outside, the pool seemed more attractive than the sauna.

Walls well insulated and didn't hear neighbors!

Sure it's a place to lay your head for the night, but the staff is super friendly (the desk clerk even took the time to sit down with us during happy hour and have a cup of sprite), the decor is cute as hell, and they make the effort to make people feel welcome. Seriously, what place doesn't have a bar and provides happy hour with boxed wine!

Oh, and for the room, the price rocks!

-We were moving from cold Seattle to Long Beach, and came across this place. Wonderful. Our room had two big beds two chests a desk a large table, a sitting room kitchen with a micro wave, fridge and  a television, the 2nd one in the place, and a very comfy chair...holy cow.
They have a pool, and I am told a Jacuzzi but most of our time was in town looking at apartments.
The breakfast is also good, bagels and cream cheese, waffles, yoghurt and fruit.
    A friendly staff.

This hotel was a very pleasant surprise for my husband and I. We are over the road truck drivers and usually have to stay in some pretty gnarly places to accommodate the truck. Our truck plus two tour buses fit fine here. The room was very large and had a great balcony over looking the pool. The pool had a lot of patio area and was pretty spacious. It had a large separate hot tub which we didn't use, but it looked nice. The man who checked us in, maybe the owner, was very gracious and friendly even though you could tell he was very busy. The place was CLEAN! It was very close to shopping, freeways, the long beach airport and just minutes from many beaches. We felt the price for what we got was totally worth it. The night guy at the desk was also super helpful and really great. We will totally be back!!

Here is an update on that situation.  They truly do not care for their customers.
This is my response to what they emailed me:

Then perhaps the room was not properly cleaned before my last visit if other items were located.  The hypodermic needle was not my property and I was not aware this was in the room.  Perhaps someone broke into the room when I Left, i'm not sure however at this point it's your customers word vs your staff.  As for right now I feel you care nothing for your customers, and just because there has been a 5 year clean streak, just means you have not actively caught anything that has been going on. Or someone is in on it, and it's being covered up.

So now it seems there was a Hypodermic needle in the room, which worries me because i was staying in that room and I could have by accident got hurt by this device.  So apparently the room was not properly cleaned prior to my stay, so this is only making them look worse in my eyes.

This is such a low quality Super 8, i continue to state look else where.

This is with reference to the complaint that you filed with Customer Care of Super 8, regarding your recent stay at the Super 8 in Long Beach, CA, particularly the concerns that you raised regarding the additional charge that was billed to your American Express account for items that were missing from Room 224 that you occupied on December 14, 2014, as follows:

2 sets of towels (consisting of 2 each bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths, & 1 bath mat
    1 blanket
    1 coffeemaker

First, I do hope you understand that as the registered guest, you are legally responsible for the room that you rented, including but not limited to any damages to he room, missing items, etc. This is the legal basis upon which your account was charged for the cost of the above missing items.

Second, we take exception to your allegation that "there is a thief amongst the staff"; Our Housekeeping staff has been with us for at least 5 years to more that 15 years, and we have never had any issues with any other guests regarding the honesty and integrity of our room attendants. To tarnish their reputation, and in the same vein the reputation of the hotel, in this manner is totally unacceptable.

Third, please be informed that a hypodermic needle (syringe) was found in the room. This is a hazard and a danger that we will not allow our housekeeping staff to be exposed to.

Lastly, in view of the manner by which this situation appears to be escalating, we have taken the necessary steps to report all of the above to our local police authorities so that they are apprised of the matter. A copy of this e-mail is also being sent to Super 8 Customer Care for their information.

Please feel free to get directly in touch with me if you have any questions.

While I've never stayed here, this review is for their customer service.  I live in this immediate neighborhood & got locked out of my house. I went here to ask if I could use the phone, to which I was told no. I mean I could see if I looked threatening or something, but I don't. The lobby was filled with a few guys & I was told to hold on. Once I was greeted I asked if I could make a local car to which he rudely told me no. If I ever have people looking for a low budget motel, I'll make sure to send them elsewhere!

Plus the towels I saw behind the counter looked liked they should have been disposed of a few years ago. Nasty!

Stayed here the night before leaving on a cruise.  Checked in and welcomed with refreshments in the lobby.  Nice.  Had an upstairs corner room. Loved having the balcony.  We had no problem with noise even though the place was full.  After a long drive the hot tub felt great. Needed more towels and the front desk was very nice about getting us dry ones to use in the am.  Next morning, nice breakfast with fresh fruit, pastries, make yourself waffles, just about anything you could want.
The room was large, beds were comfy.  About the only complaint was the upstairs ice machine didn't work.  It seemed there was only one other machine for the whole motel.  I could see where that could become a problem in the summer.
All and all, a very enjoyable stay.  And the price couldn't be beat.  I would stay here again should I be in the area.
