I am now a HUGE fan of the Best Western Hotels chain. This specific one in Hollywood, on Highland, is two blocks from Hollywood Blvd, which was fantastic! The room was perfect for me and my two nephews and Mom-I took them to Universal Studios and the hotel was literally a hop, skip, and a jump away! The room itself had all of the amenities needed to keep a family-especially with young kids-happy! It had the coffee (not that I needed it much-the kids was enough caffeine for me thankyouverymuch), the microwave, ample room. The staff WAS FANTASTIC. I was at the Hilton in Woodland Hills the previous two nights and the staff at the Best Western COMPLETELY BLEW THEM AWAY with their more than superior customer service. They were SUPER friendly, with a number 1 emphasis on customer care/service. THAT staff knew exactly how to treat their guests, and I have dealt with many a hotel staff in even the higher end tourist hotels in Paris, London, and Rome, and this group surpasses all of them 100% with flying colors! When I stay at a hotel, I expect the best service because I am not at home-outside of my comfort zone and my element, and the hotel staff needs to be there for me 100%, and I can't say that for any of the hotels I ever stayed in, with the shining exception of the staff at the Best Western Hollywood Plaza. That group alone will make me want to come back the next time I am in Los Angeles, no matter what part of the county I have to be in. I will make sure to stay there.

Maybe this is what a Best Western usually is like, but after staying at the Best Western Hollywood Hills, this place is looking kinda cruddy.

The rooms are smaller, more poorly decorated, and seem dirty, although that might be more of a fault of the decor.  The bathroom is big enough for myself and a bar of soap, and nothing else.  There isn't anything about this whole hotel that makes it stand out.  Its 100% bland, and average.  Not good enough in my book.  The view from my room is a railing, and then the parking lot.  Great.

I'm very unimpressed.  The free Internet is nice, but I'd gladly pay more to be at the other BW (it was sold out).  If you're looking for a BW in Hollywood, head for the hills; avoid the plaza.

Ok, so this place will never be confused with a Westin, Ritz or Four Seasons, but it is what it is, a solid, servicable hotel.

We stayed here for the Rose Bowl at a very reasonable price (about $130 per night when everything else in the area was at least $200).  The service was prompt and friendly.

The rooms aren't great, but the location is.  It's a 5 minute walk to Hollywood & Highland.

Overall, 4 stars for the value.

Now...one wouldn't expect much from a Best Western right?? .....WRONG!  Although this super snob boutique hotel whore was incredibly upset to be booked into a Best Western on his recent business trip...I have to say I was pleasantly surprised to find this was a decent place..clean..super helpfull staff...and really close to the famous Hollywood Blvd hots spots,,like Highland Mall..Geisha House..Napoleon Perdis...and the Hollywood Wax Museum(I know..I'm a loser)!

So..if you don't mind a mysterious stain here and there, and the over whelming smell of Febreeze...oh ya..and the fact that your room card will be de-magnetized like 60 times...

I recommend it if you're on a budget and want a place close to all the cheesy Hollywood action!

I called to make a reservation at this hotel for Saturday July 16. Josh told me that I could book a room at $159 if I book tonight, he said I could call back. When I called back to book the room for the "carmaggedon" weekend, he said he couldn't do it for less than $189 now. I protested that he promised me the $159 rate, and that he gave me his personal word. The guy came down to $179, but would not honor his word at $159. I don't know about all of you Yelpers, but that is unacceptable to me. I asked for a supervisor, and he said no supervisor is on staff at this hour, 8:50pm on a Wednesday. I promised him I would report this on Yelp and call back tomorrow when a supervisor is on duty. Josh put me on hold twice and kept me waiting only to tell me that he would not honor his word. Completely unacceptable.

The room wasn't bad, kept the noise to a minimum considering the heavy traffic area. Staff was friendly, blah blah blah, so why only three stars?

A few small things that really had an impact on my stay, but be warned, these things may not necessarily impact your's in the same way.

    1. No channel guide and they had satellite tv with a huge assortment of channels that I couldn't find because I didn't know I had to switch to channel 66 from 13. I spent most of my trip in the room writing and getting ready for meetings, so tv was essential.

    2. There were ants in the shower. Not a huge assortment of them, but five or six that crept out the first night. Not a great thing.

    3. The light switch turned off the refrigerator! No sign, no warning, all my food that I had stocked up on for the week, went bad when I awoke to find a warm fridge.

The single star is for it's location next to the Hollywood Bowl, which is the reason the BF and I stayed here.

If you MUST stay here, PAY CASH.

We stayed ONE night to attend a concert and accidentally left something behind.  After arriving home we called and they confirmed that the maid found the item - they then proceeded to accuse us of stealing the bedspread!  Unbelievable!

And because we used a credit card, they "informed" us that they would be charging the card for the bedspread.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is what they call a SHAKEDOWN.

Why would we steal their crappy bedspread anyway? It wasn't a comforter that might actually keep you warm.  It was one of those thin bed 'covers' that are just for looks. They are now essentially holding our personal property hostage until we agree to pay for something that we didn't take.

BESIDES all that - the rooms were hot and stuffy, there were no washcloths, and their maintenance guy started drilling the door of a room one floor below us at 7:30am.

Run far, and fast, from this place.

My friends & I came to Hollywood for a quick weekend trip.  I usually stay at Best Western hotels (to rack up my points, of course) and this one seemed fine.  It was close to the club that we had planned to go to (within walking distance).  All I needed was a bed, a bathroom, and a lock on the door.

    Free parking!
    Friendly staff
    Decent room size
    Decent price

Our toilet overflowed in the middle of the night.  But the maintenance man came right away and fixed it.  It wasn't horrible, but still inconvenient for that brief amount of time.

If I was in the area, I'd stay here again.  The price was right and like I said, all I need is a bed, a bathroom, and a lock on the door!

Just because I was visiting Hollywood, doesn't mean I wanted to spend Hollywood prices for a hotel.  This Best Western had all of the things I needed for a weekend visit (great location, free parking, free wireless, comfy beds, and a fridge/microwave in the room) for a fraction of the price of your typical swank LA hotel.

It is right off of highway 101 and just two blocks away from Hollywood Blvd, including the Metro Red Line (yeah, I know, who uses public transportation in LA?!).

The service was great; everyone was very friendly.  It's funny how much difference a "good morning" can make.  There is a restaurant on site that I never went to, but I always saw quite a few people eating breakfast there.

    Will definitely stay here again.

We had two nights in BW Hollywood Plaza Inn last September.   I thought initially that it was basically a very convenient location and after some time spent on reading the reviews we booked it.   The place itself looked like a quite dated motel and not really value considering the price.   The room interior was very dark and dont even look under your bed sheet...
We didnt feel comfortable and will not stay again.

Came out to CA to visit a sick relative. I was amazed that I found accommodations for less than $300 a night -- during Oscars week! The hotel was only about $80 nightly (double that on the weekend) and was a very, very good value for the money.

This facility is very, very close to where tourists want to be in downtown Hollywood. Don't let anyone try to convince you not to walk in Hollywood. When you're this close to everything there's really no reason to take a cab.

Decor was typical. Niceties include coffee maker, fridge and microwave. Don't go looking for boutique soaps or shampoo, only dinky basics are offered. Towels and sheets are not first-quality.

But remember the old real-estate rule... "location, location, location." This place has that, and value, in spades!

After we'd established that their daily rate was about $80 -- and their weekend rate $180 -- we negotiated a weekend-day rate of $110. This, we thought, was great. However, when we went to extend our stay this evening, for another week, they informed us that the "Oscar Weekend" days -- Saturday 3/6 and Sunday 3/7 (the ones for which we were initially offered $180 and negotiated down) -- would be $300 a night. Despite the fact that we'd reserved week-by-week and confirmed a "weekend rate" and  negotiated it. We felt this determination to be arbitrary and, given our stressful situation, greedy on the part of management.

We made it very clear to the management that we were here for a bereavement visit, not a vacation. They just didn't care that we'd been guests for a week and a half.

This place seemed to be alright until we tested their mettle. They had no problem at all with gouging us -- after we'd negotiated the weekend rate.

We are going to lodge a complaint with the folks at the Best Western home office.

The other Hollywood Best Western is more fun.  This place is clean, near Hollywood Blvd. so you can walk to Mann's Chinese Theater and other tourist spots.

My room was clean and quiet.  Indeed, I had a king size bed and a sleeper sofa.

My biggest criticism of this place is getting into or out of the place.  It's on Highland Avenue near the Hollywood Bowl.  The traffic is fierce!  I arrived in the early evening to check in and waited almost 15 minutes from Hollywood Blvd. to creep up to where the hotel is.   There's only one entrance/exit so you have to maneuver a bit to park, and get your car positioned to exit.

Staff was friendly.  Even though there are signs EVERYWHERE saying "Decals needed for parking or you will be towed" they were cool when I asked if a friend could park for a couple of hours.

I honestly don't understand the negative reviews, doesn't sound like the same place that I've frequently stayed in. Property is well maintained and housekeeping is excellent. Front desk is always friendly and the restaurant Spice really makes this place unique. Location is great and I always look forward to staying here when I'm in L.A.

My boyfriend and I stayed the night while we were visiting some sights in LA. For a same day reservation in a non-smoking room it was about $90 with the AAA discount before tax. We decided to stay here instead of looking around because Best Western hasn't done us wrong in the past and it was ridiculously close to everything we wanted to see on Hollywood Boulevard (you can catch Sunset and Melrose off this main road really easy).

The room had a Queen bed, mini-refrigerator, coffee maker, good lighting in the bathroom, and nice shower pressure. We were able to rest our heads and not worry about where we'd be staying for the night.

    Will be staying here again!

We stayed in this hotel in August 2012 during our trip around the US and the hotel was by far the worst we've stayed in. We bought our tickets relatively late and Western Inn was the only hotel that was available and close to attractions for the time we were planning to be in LA. We  booked a hotel room through the Best Western chain website. The same exact room had two price options - breakfast rate and regular (no breakfast). We booked the one with breakfast as we stayed with my parents and I thought it'd be more convenient for us to eat breakfast at the hotel. The total was $1258.89 for 4 nights. After we checked in and went to our room I checked my account and found out that my card had been charged additional $400 something. I went downstairs to find out what it was for but they couldn't give me a clear answer and kept saying that it was a first night charge deposit. Then I asked them about breakfast and they said that they didn't do breakfasts anymore! I told them that our rate was supposed to include breakfast as claimed on the website. They were trying to convince me that I was wrong, acted very arrogant and rude. I told them I had a conformation email and only after I brought my laptop down and showed the actual email, they got surprised and told me to come back later.

Later in the evening they offered us breakfast vouchers to eat at a tiny restaurant on the first floor.  We went there next morning and it was not a continental breakfast as claimed on the website, but something you order from the menu (omelett or pancakes only).

These experiences made us want to get out of this hotel as soon as possible; thankfully, there were plenty other good options around that were much much better and CHEAPER (Holiday Inn is right next to it and it was way cheaper. breakfast was great and our room was spacious and clean, unlike the one at Best Western).

Also, when we decided to check out earlier, they said the initial charge of $400 something was for the first night, even though our reservation email said $314 (including taxes). Their response was that the email calculates the AVERAGE, but the actual nightly rates are different.

It was a good stay, but be ready to pay $22 dollar a night for parking. Which was a big negative for me. When I made the reservation they didn't say anything about paying for parking at their hotel. It should've been with the package. No free breakfast too.

This is the WORST customer service experience I've had from a hotel. It definitely lacks even the basic hospitality you'd come to expect from any business! The pool is dingy, actually - the rooms are kind of dingy as well. (I felt like I should bring a black light in and check the bedding for bed bugs.) I definitely didn't feel safe. It was actually depressing being here. The front desk staff were strange, and rude - there was something about them that just felt shady and untrustworthy.
The only thing this hotel might have going for it is location, but there's a hotel across the street and a much nicer Holiday Inn next door.
I concur with previous reviews from Tracy C., Kasia K, and WM. Just walk in there and you will too!

Great location! If you are looking to save some money, and stay in a great location - I would definitely recommend this place. You can walk to Walk of Fame (5 minutes), drive to the Hollywood sign (10 minutes). Plenty of restaurants, shops and nightlife within walking distance as well.

The Front Desk staff was great - especially Francisco. He was very polite and willing to help us find local attractions. We also had to leave one night early, and he offered to issue a one night refund (due to the circumstance). Most hotels would say non-refundable.

The rooms were very clean, and housekeeping offered daily trash and towels, bed etc. This is no 5 star hotel, but would definitely say this is one of the better hotels in the area.

This hotel is worth its price for its location.  Walking distance from Hollywood Blvd and just a cab ride away from pretty much everything LA Nightlife has to offer.  Friendly staff, didnt have to pay for parking (know that was mentioned in other reviews)...dont be surprised by the look and feel of the hotel appearance on the outside as it looks a little upscale but its your typical Best Western (outdoor) Hotel.  Rooms were nice and clean, was only there for one night so room served its purpose.  Good hotel for booking if your just looking for a night of partying in LA and dont want to pay for a super expensive hotel.

The best thing out of this hotel has to be the LOCATION!! You can't beat the location of this hotel, only two blocks from the Highland Mall, Hollywood Wax Museum, Chinese Theater, other. It also felt safe to walk at night. The check-in experience was smooth as well as the check-out.

Our room wasn't anything exciting or out of this world, but it was clean and the beds were comfortable. The rooms could use improvements on their as well as some more lighting. It felt dark and outdated, but for a young couple just wanting to see most out of the city in two days is was perfect. It also had a microwave, free internet and free parking. It seem like we may be out of parking spaces since we got there at 1am, but they still found us a spot.

As i said, perfect location, safe, overall seemed clean and the price was ok for LA's standards. I would definitely recommend to friends and families.

Hotel is in the perfect walking distance to main attractions. Located off a busy street so be careful when pulling out.  Parking is provided at a small rate. It was $22.00 per night when I visited. Be mindful of the type of car you drive due to the parking is made for compact cars; i.e. ford focus. If you car is bigger it will be difficult to park.

Rooms has entrance from outside. The room are basic nothing major to talk about. We didnt spend too much time in the rooms anyways. Stayed for 3 nights. Not concerns with cleanliness of rooms. No odors. Beds are full size and not queen size. Keep that in mind.

There is a restaurant located within the hotel. We only ate breakfast there. It was okay. They allowed us to order off of the kids menu. We needed a light breakfast and didnt want anything too heavy. The coffee is strong, so if thats what you like they you will be okay. The grilled cheese wasnt made with american, Im thinking provolone or some other white cheese. So dont expect the typically grilled cheese. The oatmeal came in a big bowl, you will be full once you have finished. It was serviced with fruit as were the grilled cheese. The strawberries were not sweet.

Shopping and eating places are within walking distance but if you are going at night, you should have a car.

Location location location is all this hotel has to offer. Tattered showered curtains that look like they were previously used for drop cloths and carpets that need a good cleaning (you know the kind where you don't want to take your shoes off). Listened to traffic and party goers all night.

As an historical note: the grand-daughter & last descendant of Mark Twain died in a motel room at this address in 1966. Considering the architecture, it is possible that it was at this motel. As a review... this is typical Best Western fare.... a little more expensive considering the location. Easy walking distance to Hollywood & Highland area, but would use caution.... during the day, due to traffic speed & congestion ... at night... just because it's night & Hollywood calls for extreme caution.

I stayed here with my wife in early April and was not happy at all for various reasons.  Price was around $150 for two night Saturday and Sunday stay which was reasonable and the room was fine.  No problems there, but....

    1) They advertise free wifi.  Free wifi.. that was the slowest WiFi I ever seen in my entire life. At times I couldn't connect at all, some pages could not refresh and/or eventually timed out. The whole weekend was that way.  Worse the original dial up we were all used to back in the 90's.  They staff tried to reset the router a few times but with no luck. So if you need internet for your stay, you will be in deep trouble if you stay here.

    2) After the first night, I came down in the morning to get coffee to go in the restaurant. There is water cooler near the front desk. A bum was sleeping by the water cooler with his shoes off with an empty cup in his hand. No staff at the front desk. I pay $150 a night some bum is using the amenities for free?  As they would say on ESPN "Come On Man!"

    3) We were in a corner room and the maids were washing the outside wall every morning early outside our room.  Very loud. I have never seen that before.

    4) Construction workers were walking above us on the roof (we were on the top floor) and drilling there before 9 AM.  Between 3) and 4) here make sure you are up before 9 AM, because fo getta bout sleep after that.

    5) TV channel control was a bit weird.   Alot of channels had snow and big gaps between the channels that actually worked and some that didn't.  Stayed next door at the Holiday Inn, and I don't remember channel surfing being that hard.

Next time back the to the Holiday Inn even though it was more expensive on this trip or maybe I will try the The Blvd across the street next time. WiFi the number #1 priority for me and this is the first time I have ever been to a hotel/motel and it was unusable.  Not acceptable these days where we are with technology and broadband.

My friends and I just needed a place which was in walking distance to the clubs to get ready at and come back and sleep. Check, Check and Check. There is free wifi and the housekeeping gave us everything we asked for.

Terrible hotel experience for the hefty price. The WiFi was aweful, didn't work at all.. No continental breakfastd. They did offer the standard military discount that "most" Best Westerns do. And the location was pretty good with regards to attractions; Walk of Fame, etc.  The beds were painfully uncomfortable.  The adjoining restaurant was expensive and the food was only average. The pool also appeared dirty do we didn't use it.  We will not stay at this hotel again.

The staff were friendly and the location is very convenient to the touristy areas, but the rooms of the hotel face outside, like a motel, which I never feel entirely safe with. Also there were bugs in my room! I saw two cockroaches and a spider in three days! The Hilton and Holiday Inn next door looked much nicer, so depending on budget you may prefer to stay there.

Also please note: if you stay there put the non slip mat down when you take a shower! I never normally do (I'm in my 20's, never fallen before) but the bath tub is extremely slippery and I fell hard on my butt and was very sore and bruised afterwards. This isn't the hotel's fault (they provide the mat) it's just something to definitely use if you stay there!

The good: this hotel is in a great location. It's an easy 10 minute walk to all the sights of Hollywood. Very convenient.

The bad: horrible WiFi. It's free, but no one in our group could get it to work. None of us had good cell phone reception either, which we found odd.

Also, when we checked in they asked how many cars we had. I said "We have one; am I ok to park here?" To which they replied "Yes". That's it.

Upon checkout, I see on the bill that I was charged $30 for parking. It would have been nice to have been told it wasn't free parking when I asked up front. I'm not sure if it was intentionally deceptive or just poor communication, but I don't like additional charges showing up on the bill when I leave. Taxes plus parking ended up adding an additional $80 onto a 2 night stay. Disappointing.

Nice, clean, comfortable. Bed is not queen size so kinda too small for two people to share. Fridge, microwave... However fridge was not on when we checked in. Spice Cafe downstairs  with ok breakfast. Had two eggs, toast, bacon, 2 small
Pancakes, and water for $15.30... Because i was starving. Parking is super tight and I did damage my car backing out. TONS of traffic trying to get in and out of this place. It's walking distance to Hollywood Blvd... About ten min walk in semi-safe area. Paid a taxi $5 at night. Parking each car at hotel
    Cost $15 per car.

Proximity 4/5 Close to the Hollywood Boulevard, Dolby Theatre, Mann's Chinese Theater

    Price $$

Great location- short walk to hollywood walk of fame! And shopping mall.
    Free wifi
    Clean rooms
    Microwave! and mini fridge
They have the worst cable package in the existence of TV. Not even joking you are lucky to get a good news station in the morning and your nightly programs are restricted to the first few channels. 70% of the channels are foreign. Everything from Chinese soap operas to an Armenian channel!! Pretty awesome if you don't speak English. But if you only speak English you will be highly confused.
MAJOR DOWNFALL- don't expect to sleep in. The maids are so loud it is absolutely offensive. They are up and cleaning at 7/8 am. And they play Spanish radio full blast. Oh, and to top it off they shout at eachother across the hotel, and carry on like their having the time of their damn lives. Thinking back its kind of funny, but when you finally get to sleep at 5am and want to be in dreamland till at least noon it's incredibly annoying.
