when I stayed there I could not figure out how to use the 2 remotes to work one television and I had to get dressed and go to the office and ask how to use them. While I was there I told one of the guys that it was 11pm and it sounded like somebody was running back and forth upstairs. He went over and knocked on the doorframe and told me that this is America! And things are made with wood here and sound will carry! I said I know this America because I was born and raised here and your building is obviously not well made. He told me if I didn't like it I could check out! We got in a big argument and I stormed out. Fortunately, I figured out the remotes and the noise upstairs stopped, but when I check out the next morning, I forgot my phone and when I went back 30 minutes later to get it the maid was in the room already and the phone disappeared, She made a nice show of opening the drawers and looking in the trash but I went back 3 times hoping she would feel guilty and pretend to have found it but she never coughed it up. I had to go buy a new phone. The worst hotel experience I have ever had and I've traveled all over the world. It's the first time I've ever had anything "disappear" at a hotel.

This place serves a very good purpose. If you want to be relatively close to everything in Hollywood, on a budget, and have a decent bed and shower, this will hit on all those points. Even comes with a stall for your rental.

If I were still in college and looking for a place to stay with a few friends then this would not have been so bad.  I was looking for a cheap place to stay in LA with my son and boyfriend.  I'm not too picky,  just like my sheets clean and everything to be in working condition.  There were holes in the wall of the bathroom, the buttons on the air conditioner were broken (which my toddler gladly threw across the room), and I'm fairly certain there was mold in the air conditioning as well.  There was (what appeared to be) dried blood on the sheets.  I think next time I'll just spend the couple extra bucks for a nicer room.

The Hollywood City Inn is a good budget motel in a charmingly seedy area off the eastern end of Hollywood Blvd., conveniently located in the heart of Thai Town and within striking distance of Little Armenia.  There is a strip mall with a Ralph's up the street, and a Walgreen's down the street.  It has a pool, palm trees wrapped in white lights, a coke machine, internet in the lobby, and lots of Euro teens on their big LA vacation.  The continental breakfast consists of Frosted Flakes, donuts, croissants, "coffee" and juice.  The rooms are clean, but bring your own soap and shampoo unless you like being stinky.  It's close to the freeway and pretty quit given it's location.  I think there are people who live there.  Either that or they need a lot of stuff when they travel.  The staff are not offensive.

I booked a room at the Hollywood City Inn because of the reviews about this place. Affordable, decent, clean, what more can a college student ask for? I was planning to see Above & Beyond at  the Hollywood Palladium, and this motel was one of the places that wasn't 21+ to check in and was close to the venue.

Arrived around 5:30pm and no one was at the front desk. I had to ring the bell a few times before someone arrived to the front desk. Got our key and went into our room. My boyfriend said there was a weird stench to it, but I didn't smell anything weird. It was fairly decent. There were some things that were kind of off though. There was like something stuck on to the ceiling, like the wet toilet paper you would shoot to the ceiling when you were a little kid. The paint was also chipping off of the wall and a little mildew on the shower ceiling. Also when I pulled away the bedsheets, I saw a weird white stain (ew!). There was free cable and wifi, but the wifi was very slow at some parts of the hour. My boyfriend went to the front desk to ask about why the wifi wasn't working when it was working perfectly fine before, and the lady couldn't really answer his question, but it started working 10 minutes after he asked. There's a microwave and a mini fridge in the room if you need it. There is also free parking on site. It could get very full at night. They also provide free breakfast in the morning, but you have to get it at the front desk.

I would probably stay here again because I can't afford anything better. Bring your own pillow and snuggie, because that's what I did :)

Hollywood City Inn is a great way to visit Hollywood and the LA area for a really great price. We stayed there for three days at a price that would've been one day at one of the other bigger, chain hotels.
The hotel is walking distance to Thai Town, the Walk of Fame, Melrose Avenue, Sunset Blvd., a quick drive from Beverly Hills. The location is perfect. We could walk just about anywhere we wanted to go.
The rooms are quiet, decent, clean, and nice. Good water pressure. The only complaints about the room is the thin pillows, no remote for the TV, and the typical thin, sandpaper-like hotel towels. But, for the price, and as little time as we spent in the room, it's minor. The hotel and grounds are clean and well maintained. I'd definitely stay there again.

The price was good even though I didn't pay for it.  However there were some parts of the Hollywood City Inn that need work.

The room was rented for 2 nights and 3 days.  When my best friend got there, they had just cleaned so the room smelled like Ammonia.  She figured it would air out.  Opened the windows but could still smell it.

After picking me up, the room still smelled like Ammonia.  We called to see if we could get another room but they told us they were booked up for the night and to try the next day.

The room was average size.  The windows ddn't have screens on them and with the ammonia smell still there we had to make a make shift guard to keep it open and any danger out (after all this is Hollywood).
The room was tidy and had a nice mini refrigerator.  The T.V. had cable but no guide to it from what I could see.  There were some small cracks and such.  One in the mirror and one on a wall.  The toilet dispenser was broken also.  The courtyard and pool area were nice.  Lots of roses, and well maintained.  The ice machine was odd and I would remind all those who might be staying there that once you push down, the ice doesn't come out till you release.

The next day we talked to the manager who had observed the make shift guard in the window and asked why we didn't ask for another room.  We told him we did.  We explained the situation and that both of us are sensitive to smell.  He gave us another room that still reeked of Ammonia and was just cleaned.  We couldn't get the window open either.  It also had cobwebs so we figured it hadn't been opened or cleaned in a while.  We were moved to another room that I don't think was cleaned fully.  The bed was made and I think the carpet cleaned from what I can tell but I don't think they have any other cleaners that don't have ammonia in them.

I can't recall the name of the cleaner he told us that they used that "doesn't have ammonia"   I do know we privately laughed because yes it does.

I bought cleaner and scrubbed the toiled and the sink.

Also the tub had no rubber mat or stickers on the bottom of it and I slipped 2 times.   Very slippery and dangerous.

If you are looking for a basic place to stay, and can handle the possibility of ammonia.  This is your place.

I was impressed with how the manager worked to accomodate us, however I would probably not stay there again.

Definitely low-budget. The huge melted iron-mark on the carpets in my room was an especially nice touch. The neighborhood isn't great, I'm nervous about my car. And the continental breakfast fits on a 5' x 2' countertop, so don't get your hopes up. Three stars if you're on a budget, two stars if you have a little money, you can do better. One star if you have high standards, you won't be happy.

If your looking for a one night stay, that would be okay...but beware if you want to check out early you can't....they charge you in advance and will not except cancellations or refunds....this is not posted on their walls or told to you at the front desk before you check in.  Also it is a noisy street. The people are rude and it is privately owned so they can do whatever they want....and that is posted...can refuse service if wanted..... my advice stay somewhere else.....

Perfect location, perfect sized room, perfect price.

Staying in Hollywood (or LA in general) can be a little pricey-this place is the best deal you're gonna get, seriously. It has a pool, free parking (lots of it) wireless in your room and a fridge and microwave in your room. The room was generally very clean with tile floors in the bathroom and a vanity in the bedroom.

The simple amenities like towels and shampoo are severely lacking but you get what you pay for and then some.

The neighborhood is fine, even for families. Just be aware of your surroundings and dont leave anything you don't want stolen in your car.

Right off the 101 with walgreens, cvs and ralph's one block away. Definitely recommended!

Stay here only if you have to!

Location and price were decent, and I did appreciate that there was a mini fridge and a microwave. But there are several reasons why I didn't think too much of my stay. First of all, the person at the front desk didn't even bother to check my credit card against my ID--so if someone runs off with my card, go straight to the City Inn cause they don't check ID! On top of that, the credit card didn't match the person under whose name the reservation was made, and STILL no ID check. Is that standard? That's a bit scary, if it is.

I also felt quite neglected by the folks at the front desk (they had a very offhand attitude)--customer "service" was virtually nonexistent. The room was spacious (you could fit five or more folks in sleeping bags in the space available) but it lacked the feeling of comfort. Every time I stepped into the room, it smelled like RAID. Gross. The bathroom was icky, with peeling and inconsistent paint. WiFi was available and free, but quite shotty.

Breakfast consisted of standard (but lower-end) pastries and absolutely disgusting and watered down coffee. NEVER AGAIN.

We've stayed at the Hollywood City Inn multiple times the last 3.5 years, as it's central to most everything.  It was quite refreshing to see the lobby and several other areas within the hotel get upgraded 1.5 years ago, but not sufficient to elevate the facilities to a somewhat normal and clean standard.

I was on a business trip on Wednesday this week and had a good friend come along~ the room had two beds and left much to be desired.  Seems the owner & or management have let the standard fall low.  The facilities in general appeared dirty with much janitorial and Facilities work to be done.  The following is a list of things we observed while in the room~ just plain nasty.

1).Restroom towels were OLD with visible stains, hair in between them and were not standard bath sizes
2). Restroom walls had paint chips and stucco was falling off in multiple places
3). Room & restroom walls in general were dirty with blood, mucus, paint chips and   other foreign stains.
4).Seems Easter arrived extremely early, as Dust Bunnies were apparent in window sills, ceiling vents, etc...

I am going to pay an additional $50.00 somewhere else and get a better quality room next time.  This place has been great the last few years, but I will not tolerate nasty facilities with chrome showing signs of rust and oxidation while I have to stare at blood stains near the bottom of the toilet, YUCK!!

On a good note, I was surprised to sleep in clean sheets!

Never did I think I would say this - but I wish we stayed in a Motel 6 instead.

Sure, the price was cheap, and the room was spacious for all four of us.  That said, the Hollywood City Inn gave off this hole-in-the wall vibe... and not in a good way.  The TV was a CRT (old-school picture tube), the towels didn't look that clean, and the beds were very hard.  The showers took forever for the water to heat up.

When we tried to go for the continental breakfast, we were told that it ended at 9.  Um, we would've appreaciated that intel when we checked in the night before... that said, given by the empty donut store boxes I saw outside the office door, looks like we didn't miss much!

Nice rooms. Like the laminate flooring... Just stay for a quick stop don't stay for a whole week.  Seems like there is a lot of action within the vicinity so it's got that going for it.

Superb service by the owner (?) and his right-hand man: polite, respectful, efficient, smiling but not chatty or intrusive.  Accommodating as well: in my reservation I requested a room on the top floor (since in one stay here I had overhead a late-night Energizer Bunny pacing across the floor) and was graciously gratified.  The rooms can vary in quality, as others have noted: my first stay I had a corner bottom room, not impressive (ex-smoking room, I think; worn carpet; ventilation lacking) but recently I had a GREAT room (all clean, fairly new, excellent layout).

Sheets, towels, and bathroom are always clean --that's the important basic stuff.  As for perks, there are some NICE ONES: you get a mini-fridge and microwave without asking for them (take THAT, Hyatt! *thhhbbbtt*); free donuts, cereal, milk, and OJ from 7-10am; nice clean pool with relaxing burbling fountain and deck tables at which to enjoy your breakfast; free and easy parking in the adjoining lot; check-in open long hours; easy phone reservations.  Across the street is a tiny, kitschy-but-cute Mexican restaurant with very decent food and margaritas (but molasses-slow service); also a fruit stand (open only at night? er...) and a convenience store.  Bigger stores are a block down, on Sunset.  All this is to say, convenient amenities!

A double room, including tax, cost us $60.  Wow!  There is nothing even close to this price within 40 minutes' drive from the museums I want to visit (LACMA, Getty) -- so this is my home base, and will continue to be.  I will specifically ask for Room 202 from now on (you should too, unless I'm going to be there; in which case, hands OFF).

    Decent, clean, & reasonably priced.

This was our second stay here, and we were much more impressed this time.

Our room was located in the additional building they have, not in the main hotel surrounding the pool. The room seemed to have been remodeled recently, and we were quite surprised at how nice it was! The room was large, with a sort of wood flooring, a very comfy cal king bed, a huge flat screen TV, and newer bathroom fixtures.

The front staff was very nice, and informative about the area, and the breakfast was decent, they had the usual coffee, juice, cereal, and pastries. We really liked that there are quite a few eateries and stores in walking distance. It is also very close to the Hollywood strip area. We were able to take taxi's to do some bar hopping on the strip, for less than $40 bucks both ways, with a couple of stops in between.

We will definitely stay here again, if we are in the area, it is just so convenient, and reasonably priced not to!!

This hotel was perfect for our one week trip in hollywood, ca.. The rooms have been remodeled recently (large flat screen t.v.s, wood floors, new CLEAN bathrooms) the pool at this hotel was just amazing, well kept  and was clean as well.. Parking is a little tough but where isn't it in Los Angeles. The employees workin there were helpful.. And there's a underground train right across the street which will take you to hollywood blvd walk of stars in one stop and the Chinese theatre/outdoor shopping mall on the second stop and universal studios on the third stop which was just perfect instead of driving everywhere (5 mins) Great Great find for the price.. Believe me!

I'm not a very picky person. Nor do I make a fuss about things. But I felt inclined to leave a review for this place. First off, check in is at 4 pm so we showed up around 4:30 pm and went to the front office. Well after driving several hours to get there we weren't very happy when we found no one in the office and the doors were locked. 30 minutes after check in time! I mean come on, that's one of the busier times in the office. After waiting about 20 minutes someone finally showed up to give us our key. Naturally after a long drive you have to use the restroom. So that was the first place I went to. I've never had to wipe down the toilet seat in any hotel when I first stepped in the place. There was a light brown streak across the back of the seat. No exaggeration here. The bathroom floors flow right into the shower like its some sort of meat locker, like they just use a pressure washer to clean the bathroom floors and let all the water and gunk go down the shower drain. Not somewhere you feel like standing barefoot. Bring flip flops if you plan on showering in this hotel! On to the noise. Let's just say we felt like we were sleeping in a tent on the streets of downtown LA. We could hear everything! I had to check the front door a few times to make sure it was still closed! The whole place was just kind of run down and outdated. Nothing more then a new-ish paint job on the outside. My advice is to just spend the extra 30$ a night to stay in a much nicer hotel, like my wife and I wished we had.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE COSTUMER SERVICE! I don't think I have ever encountered anyone in hospitality who has no idea on how to treat their clients. One thing is having policies and another yelling at people and not giving them a chance to talk like human beings. I do not recommend this hotel to absolutely anyone.... Unless you want to deal with a rude angry manager.

I wouldn't recommend this place. Our room had no hot water. We kept being told that the water will be fixed in 20 minutes and it was still freezing. The beds weren't very comfortable, they made a lot of noise. The walls are thin, you can hear almost everything. We went up to the front desk and he didn't really assist us. Instead he said "there were others who didn't have hot water and you're the only one who wants a refund." The room we got was gross. MY FRIEND HAD TO SHOWER IN SOMEONE ELSE's ROOM, and someone was staying in there!!! The hotel guests weren't present at the time. Definitely not a comfortable stay, but they did switch out room. The new room was better.

At this price, I was pleasantly surprised. I stayed four nights here and would definitely come back. Free parking and free breakfast! Breakfast is only available from 7 am to 9 am but it's a decent selection of donuts, croissants, fruit, cereal, juice and coffee. The area is fine and the location is so convenient! There is a Starbucks and cvs up the block. It's less than a 10 min drive to the walk of fame, 15 min drive to the Hollywood sign, 30 min drive to the Santa Monica pier and 30 min drive to LAX. My room was clean and included a microwave and refrigerator. The bed was comfortable. The hair dryer did not work but they provided me with a new one upon request. The pool area was very cute too. This place isn't anything fancy but it's more than I could ask for at such an affordable price!

Although you can always pick economy lodging to pieces, guests should go elseware (and pay 2-3X more/night) if they want total luxury right in the happening areas of Hollywood (e.g., Melrose, Sunset, HW Blvds.). As I always see the glass half-full in life, let me name the positives:

--Complimentary Breakfast (Saved me at least $30 each day for the 3 of us).  I can't believe the people ragging on it.  Coffe is very acceptable, donuts varied and delivered daily.  Milk is fresh and cereal varied.  Fresh fruit too !  I paid almost $50 for the 3 of us to eat worse at our Vegas hotel....

--Complmentary WiFi / good signal quality in room (in Vegas you pay $12.95 MINIMUM per 24 hours)

--Employee demeanor / help / professionalism  for Guest services

--Location (2 blocks to LA Metro stop going to Universal Studios)

--Desktop PC in Lobby w/printer (other hotels now charging $7.99 to print a plane boarding pass)

    --Free parking

--Pleasant pool / garden (many rose bushes !!)

--Large extra guest room w/sofa sleeper for my daughter.

--Value price (3 of us stayed for 3 nights in heart of LA for $410.00 (!!).  Try that at Marriott / Hilton.

IF I had to mention one thing, the noise of other guests at night can bother (e.g., overhead stomping, voices or slamming / squeaking doors along the hallways).

    I'll return anytime.

Horrible bed, suspicious characters walking around and doing god knows what until 5 in the morning. I could not sleep at all with noise and yelling outside and I did not go out to ask them to shut the f... up because I really did not feel like getting stabbed since these people looked really shady. I spent $160 to get a hotel room just to sleep. I could not sleep at all so it is complete waste of money. I would recommend everyone to stay away from this s..t hole.

The customer service at this place is terrible. They are not helpful or friendly and act like it is out of their way to help you. They have free breakfast, but will only let you eat their donuts if you turn in your room key? Ridiculous. Then they shove you out of the office cause you can't eat in there and don't say please or thank you. Oh and don't say good morning if you want to be greeted back cause they will just stare you down. Sure the price is good, but the service is downright awful.
The rooms are somewhat updated, but the sheets look dirty and have visible stains. The comforter doesn't even look washed. Will not stay here again.
