The Hollywood Orchid Suites hotel owes its success to a superior location and a commitment to security and friendly service. Los Angeles' best hotel value.
Established in 1989.
We share the block with the Hollywood & Highland Mall which includes the famous Chinese Theatre, the Kodak Theatre (home of Academy Awards), the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel, the METRO station, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, Movie theaters, restaurants, clubs, bowling lanes etc. Just walk next door! We are within close walking distance to the Hollywood Bowl, the Roosevelt Hotel, The Magic Castle and Yamashiro. Universal Studios is one subway stop away. Many competitors offer locations that require a long walk or drive to attractions and are in areas that are not safe to walk in. Some hotels boasting of being in the "heart of Hollywood" or having "Hollywood" as part of their name, are really not.

I stayed here recently during my trip to LA and you can't beat the location! We were in town to see Wicked and wanted something close by. This hotel is located on a quiet street right behind the Kodak Theatre and the Hollywood and Highland Mall (in fact, there is a little walk way through the mall to get onto Hollywood Blvd.) It's also a hop, skip and a jump down Hollywood Blvd to the Pantages.
The place is a little old, but very clean and well cared for. For the price and the location, it can't be beat! We had a king size bed with a good size kitchen which had a few glasses and pieces of cutlery. The large fridge was great to put our beverages so they'd be cold for the evening ;) Our room was a "smoking room" but was cleaned so well that we never noticed a smell. There is a nice little pool and sun deck (I didn't use that but it looked nice)
It is so close to everything that you need to see in Hollywood, you don't really need a car. It is steps away from the Metro and soooooo easy to access, especially if you are coming from LAX (see my review of the MTA) The metro also links to many other touristy locations making the Orchid Suites an ideal base from which to explore for a few days.

If you just looking for a place to sleep, this will get the job done. Nothing special here at all. Kinda ghetto, but close to attractions on Hollywood Blvd.

Great location...in the heart of everything. I took my students on a field trip for a week and it was nice for them. They have full kitchens and living rooms which was nice for them to feed themselves. The pool was nice as well as the roof top area. The front desk staff were amazing...always curteous and helpful. The rooms are clean and secure which was very important. The only annoying thing was the parking. They have underground parking which is fine for a normal car but we had two huge vans that wouldn't fit in the garage. Other than that it is a great location.

I've stayed here twice now and had a pleasant experience both times. Once was back in Sept. of 2009 and just recently on Memorial Day weekend 2010.
The first time we stayed, we had a Deluxe Suite, which a nice living room, fully-stocked kitchen and a spacious bedroom. It was quiet at night and we had no problems sleeping. While the decor is a little on the old side, the location, pleasant staff, parking and spacious rooms make up for it.
Second time around we got a Junior Suite at the last minute (literally, walked in same day, a few hours before check-in) which was the last room they said they had available. The staff was very attentive and nice. The junior suite was huge, much bigger than I expected it to be. It had a small kitchenette with a refrigerator. The only thing missing was a microwave, but we ended up just using the stove to heat up our food. Parking was fine, lots of spaces. It made you feel safer at night that it was in a locked garage and the room key would open it up. We had daily breakfast, which consisted of cereal, muffins, bagels.. the usual light breakfast food. Light, but delicious and it was all we needed.
This hotel is located on a quiet street in back of the Hollywood and Highland mall, which a little tunnel access to get to the mall. Kodak Theatre is close by, as well as museums and a metro station. I absolutely recommend this place and look forward to staying here in the future.

I booked a room here 7/1-7/3/11. I am not too familiar of the area and was looking for a room somewhat close to Metro so my mom and I could get around without having to rent a car. We had plans to attend a concert at The Staples Center on the 1st and planned on Disneyland on the 2nd and wanted to explore Hollywood before we left on the 3rd. So obviously our destinations were VERY far apart (especially in LA traffic). After much research, I called the Orchid Suites. I spoke with a woman on the phone who stated they only had 2 rooms left, a 1 King room and a 2 queen room. I booked the 2 queens. Our flight got in at 7:30am and she explained as soon as we got there we could leave our stuff in the hotel until check-in at 3:30pm.
Day of Arrival:
We arrived at the hotel at 9:00am. We were greeted by a woman, who seemed to "know" we were arriving...she said my name and checked me right in! She said the room was ready and they upgraded my room. Surprised, and excited that we could drop our stuff off in our room nearly 6 hours before check-in time, we headed to the room. While slightly outdated, we were exstatic! We got a 2 king room suite with a full kitchen, dining room, bathroom and seperate bedroom! It was SO BIG for the 2 of us! We were right in front of the pool which was awesome!
They offered breakfast: bagels, cereal, fruit, oatmeal, muffins, juice, coffee & crossiants which were perfect for us! The woman at the front counter gave us free tickets to the davinci exhibit at the Hollywood/Highland Center which was right next door. Everything was super close including the Metro station which literally took us everywhere we wanted to go! The room was extremely clean, which made me happy. On the day of our departure, my mom and I decided to do the TMZ Hollywood Tour (another great thing EVERYONE should check out!) and we weren't going to get back to the hotel in time for check out. They said, "No problem" and gave us a late check out until 1:30pm! It was nice to come back to the hotel after the tour and relax while packing versus running around trying to rush out in time for check -out.
The staff was extremely helpful and really did a great job! Thank you so much to the staff, I have already begun praising this hotel to everyone I know. I can't wait to come back!!!!

I've stayed here during a weekend trip to Hollywood and enjoyed my stay. It was located right behind the Highland mall with a little walkway enterance from the back. The room also had a kitchen which was a plus, we used to make breakfast each morning and the hotel was clean and staff was very friendly. The gated parking garage was nice but kinda small. It was a nice stay!

I stayed here last weekend with a number of my friends as we were in town for a wedding. When I fist called to book I spoke with Lenore on the phone and she was very helpful in getting us set up with rooms that would accommodate the larger number of people that we had in our group (5 the first night 7 the second night).
The rooms are a bit older and dated, but we found them to be clean and it was nice to have so much space as we did have a larger group staying together. The first night we picked up food from the grocery store and made dinner in the kitchen, which was great to save us from having to eat out.
It was also nice to be so close to Hollywood Blvd. We didn't have a lot of time but it was fun (though hot!) to walk a few blocks down to see the stars in the sidewalk and the Chinese theater.
The staff was really nice and accommodating with our (many) various requests--a roll away bed both nights, giving keys and parking passes to people that were joining us the second day, extra towels, splitting the bill on checkout, etc. It was also great to have free wi-fi and the parking garage was awesome, there was always space and I loved that the spots are named after movie stars (We parked in Matt Damon and Sandra Bullock).
Bottom line--look at the photos, so you know what to expect. Yes it is a little older but you get a ton of space, especially great for larger groups staying together, and the perks--free parking and wi-fi definitely add to the value. In a similar situation, with lots of friends wanting to be together, I would definitely stay here again.

Hollywood Orchid Suites is not fancy, so as long as you understand this, you're good. This was once an apartment complex that has been converted into a hotel. The rooms are HUGE. Last weekend was my second stay and I have to say it is a great value and even better location for visiting Hollywood.
Did I mention the rooms are huge. They have standard hotel rooms, but also huge suites. The rooms come with full sized kitchens and they have upgraded the furniture and televisions since my last stay. They also have secure parking. There is a heated pool and a rooftop garden. In the morning, they serve a pretty decent continental breakfast with juices, bagels, fruit, cereal, etc. They also have both a computer you can use in the breakfast area and free wi-fi.
You have to understand that this is an old property, so it is quite dated, but it is clean. The only thing I found to be not as clean as I thought it should be was the shower curtain. I think it might have gotten missed as it was a little dirty on the inside. Otherwise, I feel comfortable staying here. I didn't give it 5 stars, because it's not a five star hotel. There are Marriotts I don't even give a five star to, but for what you get for the price, this is an amazing place to stay. Oh, the price! This visit I stayed in a one bedroom (king bed) suite with a living room sofa bed and of course, a full kitchen. It's was $140 out the door. That's an average cost for a hotel, but if you want something decent in this area of Hollywood, this is the only thing you will find. They could probably get away with raising the prices, but right now it's just a little piece of affordable Hollywood.
Have I mentioned the location? Oh, it's right behind the Hollywood & Highland mall. yes, that is where the Kodak Theater is (think Oscars) and the El Capitan, and Grauman's Chinese Theater. You are literally steps away from the Hollywood Walk of Fame. We walked to the Palladium for a concert, but there is also a metro station right around the corner so you can literally get around LA and HOllywood very easily even if you don't have a vehicle or don't want to have to drive and park!
Definitely check this out when you're looking for a place to lay your head in Hollywood. I think you'll find it a value, too.

Booked this hotel because we were going to a concert at the Dolby, it was perfect! Walk out the door, through a tunnel, and you're at the theater! The Metro station is very close too. We left our car parked the whole trip, went to Union Station and walked to China Town etc. Very pleased with the rooms - huge, clean, comfortable! Very nice private patio with lounge chairs was a plus. We had only one small hiccup - our room was not ready when we arrived and was going to be at least another hour. I wasn't very happy about that, as we'd been walking most of the day. Management gave us another room - upgrade - at no charge. Yay! When we checked out, they let us keep our car parked in the garage so we could shop! Definitely planning another trip to the Orchid!

This is one of the best places to stay if you're visiting LA and on a budget. The hotel is outdated (look at the pictures) so don't expect anything fancy; but like others have said before it IS very clean and doesn't smell & it is definitely not "ghetto"!
The rooms are huge; we had our own kitchen (equipped with fridge, microwave, oven, sink), dining table, plasma screen tv, free wi-fi in the room, and tons of closet space. There's a light continental breakfast (8am-10am) of bagels, cereal, fruits, croissant etc. The staff is also very friendly. The hotel also has a secured parking garage (they give you a key to enter the gated garage) which is connected to the hotel. I felt safe being at/by the hotel at night.
The best part about this hotel is the location. It is off Hollywood Blvd- right beside (literally) Hollywood&Highland mall (which has restaurants/starbucks), Kodak Theater/Grauman's Chinese theater & Hollywood walk of fame; you can walk to these locations (which is great because you don't have to worry about paying for parking). You can also see the "Hollywood" sign from the mall. You can also walk to the tour companies (Starline and LA City tours).
Overall, I will be recommending this hotel to my friends who want to visit "Hollywood". It's the best price for all the amenities you get.

The only thing i would say and this is not a complaint is bathroom tile area around shower could use updating but not bad at all! Parking in garage a bit tricky with a minivan but not horrible either! Yes we could hear some noise but i expect that and it was not bad, some people like to complain i will if needed not a problem here at all! Would i stay again YES would i recommend YES! a well run business deserves a great review! Oh and tip your cleaning staff 5.00 a night they are worth it!

Loved this place! Stayed here last Saturday for one night! When I checked in the receptionist was very friendly! He upgraded our room to a deluxe suite!! He even extended our checkout time as well! Besides all of this the hospitality was great! They offer complimentary breakfast from 7:30 to 10 each morning!
If you are looking for a nice place to stay (nothing fancy) in the heart of Hollywood this is it!! Steps away from the main attractions! Def would stay here again.

Don't know how this place gets such good reviews. The room I had smelled musty. They have no ADA rooms for the disabled. They put grab bars in the tub and claim that such constitutes an accessible room. The manager claims they are exempt from FEDERAL ADA laws because the building was built in the 1950s. Left and checked into the Loews across the street. It's a few dollars more, but the quality is unparalleled.

I am a college professor who takes about 10 students to Hollywood every two years. We've stayed here twice and it is a great bargain for the price. First, it is located near the Dolby (formerly Kodak) Theater and Grauman's Chinese Theater in the heart of the Hollywood area making it easy to access food, entertainment, the subway, etc. Second, these hotel rooms were formerly apartments so there is plenty of room for luggage, a fully equipped kitchen, and a nice living room area in those specific rooms. Last but not least the people! The manager has been wonderful to deal with and patient working out the details of our constantly changing needs. The staff are very welcoming and friendly to the point that I truly miss Patricia helping me at breakfast every morning.
This is not a 5 star hotel in the luxury sense but it is clean, comfortable, and inexpensive based on the location benefits. I highly recommend it for group trips and families seeking someplace reasonable to crash while LA site seeing.

Thank you Yelpers! What a gem. I usually stay in downtown because of work when I come to LA. This time due to a convention downtown was booked so I decided to stay in Hollywood close to my daughter and the Metro. This place looks like a motor inn once you get off the elevators but the rooms are really nice, clean, with a homey feel. Actually nicer to stay in than the Milennium Biltmore which is beautiful. While you can't compare, them as facilities, the rooms are cleaner and more comfortable. Full kitchens. Rooftop garden that is beautiful. Staff are welcoming. Prices are great as is location right off Hollywood Blvd. Check it out.

A friend recommended the Orchid. I thought it was a little sketch at first. Turned out to be perfect. The staff, first of all was amazing. They went out of their way to accommodate us. I forgot to print some documents I needed and they have a pc with a printer set up for use. The location is perfect. Direct access to Hollywood Blvd through a passage attached to Manns Chinese Theater. Liquor store, post office and gas station across the street. Room was very comfortable. Breakfast was good. Thumbs up!

I chose the Orchid because of the reviews and I was not disappointed. My two teens and I, along with my friend and her two teens asked for adjoining rooms which was perfect! The only rooms which adjoin are the executive suite ($189.00) with two separate rooms with a king size bed in each and a full kitchen, and the junior suite ($179.00) with two double beds, a small stove and small icebox. There were plates, cups and utensils included. The rooms are not fancy but they are very clean and I was pleasantly surprised when I entered. The underground parking can only be accessed with a room key to open up the gate so I felt much safer and the parking fee was $11.00 per night.
There is a walkway close to the hotel which takes you directly into the Highland and Hollywood Blvd shopping mall which has many nice eateries. The hotel is in walking distance of many sights also. The location was great especially with teens who wanted to explore.
The second day I was there I placed $700 (in large bills underneath the mattress) because I did not put out the card to have the room made up so I did not think anyone would come in to clean the room. When we got back to our rooms the beds had been made etc and when I looked under the mattress the money was still there, but in a different spot under the bed so it was obvious the bills had been seen. Thankfully the staff is honest and all the staff from the time I checked in were friendly.
The beds were not the most comfortable I have slept in, but they were not uncomfortable either. I would advise asking for an extra blanket or bringing one from home because there were no comforters or bedspreads for extra warmth. All in all I felt that I made an excellent choice especially since the rates were less than anywhere else I had checked.
Runyon Canyon Loop which is no more than a 5 minute drive at the top of Fuller, off of Franklin, is a great place to take an easy hike although there is no parking in the evening. You will be able to see many of the old lovely homes and good views of the Hollywood sign. You will want to go as early as possible to be able to park your vehicle close by.
I would definitely recommend this hotel. You will not be disappointed.

If you're looking for upscale and modern, spend a bundle and stay at the Loew's Hollywood right across the street. But if you want space, a full kitchen, friendly and helpful staff, cleanliness, light breakfast, and possibly even a balcony, and all at a much lower price, you can't beat Hollywood Orchid Suites.
We stayed here in June while I was having surgery at Cedars-Sinai, and it was a great location - close enough to the hospital so that we could drive there easily, and secure parking at the hotel so that we could walk to Hollywood Blvd, or drive anywhere else in the city and still have a space to park in when we returned late at night.
Sure, it's somewhat dated; the building used to be an apartment house before being converted, but didn't get the HGTV renovation. Still, it's ideal if you want to save even more money by cooking some or all of your meals, and there's a small pool and free wifi.
We liked it so much that when we had to return to LA a month later for follow-up, there was not a moment's hesitation before booking Orchid Suites again. And it didn't disappoint!

This hotel was perfect for our "girls weekend" away! We booked one of the double king suites (and added a roll-away) and it was perfect for the 5 of us! There was a full kitchen, and a small dining area. The rooms were large and there was enough closet space to accommodate all of us. This hotel was a former apartment building, and it felt like were were in an apartment instead of a hotel.
The hotel staff was wonderful and very helpful!! Everyone from the desk clerks to the housekeeping staff made us feel like a welcomed guest. Breakfast was included and Patricia took excellent care of us when she was on duty!! It does get a bit crowded in the breakfast area, but there are trays to take your meal out to the terrace or back to your room, if you wish.
The street is quiet and we didn't notice much noise from outside. The hotel is located on a dead-end street behind the Dolby Theater, so the only traffic on the street was from cars that were supposed to be there. It was a perfect location to walk to all the touristy things on Hollywood Blvd.
We did not take advantage of the pool, but did see several other guests enjoying it. It was bigger than I expected.
I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this hotel!

I cannot say anything bad about this hotel. From a phenomenal hotel staff, to the clean and comfortable efficiencies, this hotel is a hidden gem in Hollywood. This was my first trip to LA and the staff made it very enjoyable. The lady who helps with the breakfast in the morning was so friendly you felt like you knew her forever. The rooms were converted apartments so they had full kitchens including utensils and silverware. This hotel is great for families traveling. The parking was covered and safe. Our room had a nice balcony overlooking the pool.

What a steal.
This place isn't luxury, but if you're looking for a good place to crash on a Hollywood adventure (like my friend and I were recently), you're not going to do much better than this. The location was hard for Google maps to find, but once we got there we were set.
It's right behind the Hollywood/Highland mall, so you are on a quiet little street just a block a way from the action. Rooms are bigger than you'd expect and have kitchenettes if you're into that sort of thing. Everything is clean, and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The pool looked great (though we didn't give it a shot), but we spent a little bit of time on the rooftop deck and it's definitely worth checking out.
We got our room for $120 a night plus $10 a night for parking. It's a little more than I usually spend on hotels. However, Hollywood gets pricy, and for Hollywood this was a great price. Don't overlook this spot.
