I absolutely loved this place. I was very surprised to discover a B&B in Hollywood but this place was perfect! It's a craftsman style home in which the owners occupy the first floor and the guests occupy the 3 bedrooms on the 2nd floor. There is a full kitchen with 3 decent sized refrigerators (1 per guest). There is a washer and dryer that are available to guests free of charge, a cute little back porch and a large living room area for guests as well. This house is so close to everything. You can walk to Griffith Park and hike it if you choose. The owner offered to hike it with me (I declined as I didn't pack a single pair of sneakers!). When I arrived there were chocolates and a bottle of red wine in my room. The bed and the sheets are the most comfortable I've ever slept on. They have these adorable roll-away tables that slide over the bed so you can work on a laptop or eat a meal in bed. The bedrooms are very "zen" and you feel like you're almost at a spa. There is no breakfast served here, however there are plenty of restaurants nearby and supermarkets so you can bring food there and cook it for yourself if you choose.  I would definately stay here again!

This little gem in the Los Feliz area was recommended to us by another little gem - The Los Feliz Lodge.  We had a great stay here at the Hollywood Pensione!  We were greeted by the very friendly owners who showed us around the house and to our room.  Our room was great as well.  There was plenty of room.  All linens/furniture are eco friendly.  I even went as far as to get the brand names of all the linens just so I can have them at home.  I would highly recommend a stay here if you're in the Los Feliz/Silverlake/etc area.  Very close to Sunset, Vermont, Hillhurst, etc.

I was delighted by this darling bed and breakfast.  It's housed in an old craftsman tucked away off busy Hollywood Boulevard, and is truly a sanctuary.  They've thought of everything, it was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, and the house just oozes with charm, they even have a footed bathtub!  My only complaint was that they left Lindt Chocolate Truffles (my Achilles) in my room twice, and I had to devour them by check out :)

After staying here, I wanted to keep it a secret because it's such a great place. I guess it's too late.  I agree with all of the positive reviews below, and would add only that the wonderful breakfasts that magically appeared every morning were delicious; great baked goods, fresh fruit, and great coffee.  Super nice and helpful owners.

My wife and I stayed here in the Spring of this year and had a very nice time.  I regret I forgot the owner's name but he was a super, super nice guy with all sorts of great suggestions on what to see and do in Hollywood.  I love to cook so the fact they had a full kitchen available was a great bonus!  Trader Joes was about three blocks away so we headed over, loaded up on some good food and a bottle of wine, and had a nice quiet dinner on the deck.  Very quiet, very clean.  I just went to book a room again today and they are full the weekend I was going to go......bummer

I can not believe I did not review this when I stayed here.  It was the best hotel experience I ever had. I live in Vegas so I have stayed at many hotels. In fact I started writing a novel in the common room.  It is such a quaint and special place, with amazing owners, and great design.

Great place to stay when visiting LA! Nice, private rooms, with their own entrance. Rooms are modern and fit all our needs. After braving the chaos of LA, we came back and sat outside, enjoying a bottle of wine!

Breakfast was nice. A freshly-baked treat with some fruit. If that's not your thing, you have your own fridge and a kitchen (just for guests), where you can do your own thing. Perfect!

It's close to the metro, so we parked our car upon arrival and didn't use it the rest of the weekend. Not what I expected in LA, but so nice!

I LOVE this place. Amazing. Fabulous. Awesome. So nice you won't want to sightsee. And a bargain. And the hosts are lovely. I didn't want to leave. It may be the only reason I ever go back to LA.

I had a great time here. Very clean, classy, peaceful place in a good location. The owners were very friendly but not intrusive. Our room was stylishly decorated and very inviting. Breakfast consisted of a pastry (cheese danish the first morning, chocolate chip muffin the second) and you can make your own coffee in the kitchen. My only complaint would be that it would have been nice not to have to make our own coffee or do our own dishes, but maybe that's how all B&Bs are. Overall, a very nice experience and I would be happy to stay there again.

Great place to stay! We stayed in the Bamboo room during Oscar weekend. The bed was comfortable and our room had lots of storage space and a good shower. We had our own parking space in the back, which is key in that part of LA.
We were able to make our own orange juice every morning and the pastries provided were delicious!
My only concern was the check in- check out process. Once we made reservations, I received a confirmation email. There was no follow up email or phone call letting us know what time we are able to check in or any other directions. I called the number provided the day before check in and my phone call was not returned. When we showed up to the house, the doors were locked and there was a sign on the door letting us know we can't check in for another two hours. I called them again as directed of we wanted to check in early. No answer. We literally had to try every door in the place until we found a door that wasn't locked and we got in to find one of the managers. She was very nice and showed us around.
Check out was similar- no one told us what time we should leave or where we should leave the keys.
Overall, we had a nice quiet experience and would come back again.

Great hotel/bed and breakfast in a great location!  The Pensione Hollywood is literally just a few minutes away from the busy, touristy part of Hollywood.  You're just far away enough to avoid the noise and traffic, while still being relatively central to everything.

Upon arriving, we were greeted by Dougland, one of the owners.  He was super nice every time we saw him, always asking if we needed anything.  Being that this is an extension of his actual house (they live downstairs), you pretty much park your car in his backyard and the room looks just like a bedroom in a house.  We stayed in the Peace Room, which was located right next to the kitchen, where you get your own mini fridge and have access to all typical kitchen appliances.  I always love having my own fridge when I travel to store drinks, etc.  The room and bathroom was clean, and the bed was pretty comfortable.

My only complaints for the place are I wish they had cable tv in the room (like when you are waiting for your girlfriend to get dressed and its NBA playoff season) and we did not get the bottle of wine that he said would be in our fridge.   Both things are not huge deals, but minor suggestions for next time.  Either way, I would definitely stay here again.  Having lived in socal for over 10 years, its nice finding a place there that is quiet and relaxing.

Super, super comfy and relaxing.  This is not like staying in a hotel, or even really like staying in a B&B.  More like having an apartment away from home that you happen to share with a couple of other people.  There are three individual bedrooms (ours, the Bamboo room, had a private bath, and I think the other two might share a bath?) and a common living room, kitchen, and balcony.  Incredibly comfortable beds -- one day we stayed in bed until almost noon because it just felt so nice.  Maid service is only if you ask for it, and Erika and Dougald are available if you need them, but otherwise stay out of your hair.

There were beautiful-looking baked goods for breakfast that I unfortunately couldn't try (gluten intolerance), as well as lots of fresh fruit.  There was a basket of oranges from their tree and a juicer so I could make my own orange juice.  Plenty of coffee and tea.  Each room has its own mini-fridge in the kitchen, so you can bring home your leftovers or cook if you want.

We also loved the neighborhood.  There is plenty to walk to in all directions.  There is a small parking lot with a VERY narrow driveway (my husband almost had a heart attack trying to get our full-size rental car back there).  It's great to have free parking.  Don't worry about check-in and check-out -- if the hosts are out when you arrive, they'll leave you a note with everything you need to know.  To check out, just leave the key in your bedroom door.  We did happen to run into Erika and she was great about showing us the ropes.

I would stay here in a heartbeat if I were in LA.

I have been meaning to write this review. My mom stayed here over Thanksgiving from visiting me from Cleveland. And she LOVED it!
It was so convenient she was only a few blocks from my apt and while I was at work there were tons of restaurants and shops 2 blocks away. She was central to everything! The Room was great, up to date furnishing and a beautiful patio in the back.
The owner Dougald, was so sweet to my mom and really made her feel welcomed.

Thank you Dougald & Erika!!! My family will def. be back!!!

The room was large, especially by CA standards and the bed was huge. The bathroom was small and basic although from reading prior reviews we expected this. Water pressure was fine though and there was hot water straight away and the bathroom was very clean. The lobby was beautiful and always busy. The fitness center was nice to have and towels were provided there and there's a water cooler. The only thing that was a bit off putting was that the staff were very forward about receiving tips. We always tip but literally before even they picked up a bag they were asking for one. Overall I would stay here again though especially for the price we got it at.

We recently spent a weekend at The Hollywood Pensione. Our room was beautiful. This is truly a landmark hotel. On Sunday morning we had the best breakfast in a long time in the hotel's restaurant the Hollywood Pensione, I think it's called. The lox were unbelievable. So good, in fact that I want to go back for that reason only.

Decided on a quick trip to Los Angeles for our anniversary so used Priceline to grab a 4 star hotel that wouldn't break the bank. The room was clean and very comfortable. The view of the lake was fantastic for a frozen March weekend. The staff was very accommodating and surprised us with Champagne and strawberries. Will definitely visit again.

Nice rooms, good maid service, but  interaction with staff. If you  want any interest from the staff then this is for you. Never a comment on where the restaurants were, no offer of water, etc. The one exception was the front door and valet staff. They were fantastic.

This hotel was in a great location in Los Angeles and for a great affordable price. It is close to the freeway, which made it easily accessible for traveling. The rooms were clean and cozy. I would highly recommend staying here when traveling to Los Angeles.

This was a very high quality bed and breakfast.  Great location in Hollywood with off street parking.  Our room was clean and cozy and had a TV, air purifier and plenty of closet/dresser space.  The bathroom had a cool old fashioned style bathtub.  There was a very nice kitchen that had an orange squeezer and equipment to make fresh coffee and tea.  Each morning the owners would prepare either fresh muffins or pastries for breakfast.

The owners Dougald and Erika were very friendly and welcoming.  The only snag we had was with the check-in process.  We did not know where to go or what to do when we arrived.  We basically had to find our own way into the place, but once we did, Erika was very helpful in getting us settled in.  We received a very nice follow up email after making them aware of this confusion and it was all good.

Hollywood Pensione hotel was a very good stay.I stayed in this hotel for 7 nights. The service provided was good. The only problem was that my room had a walk in shower, i preferred a bath instead. The room was very nice and well furnished with mod cons. The staff was helpful with the directions for the near by places, they always recommended the hotel taxis if you ask for directions to get to a certain place. I liked the Waffles for breakfast.

I was so excited to stay at Hollywood Pensione where I have dined often and gone to events there. For an old hotel, the rooms are very large, analogous to a modern hotel with all the expected amenities. There were some surprising lapses in the bathroom badly placed towel racks, dirty water in the tub, etc.--but overall, a beautiful, almost luxurious room. The amazing part of the hotel is the public rooms the Palm Court with afternoon high tea, the Cod door bar with the ample Commodore, the Cape Cod room with the same waiters who have been there for 20 years+. And, of course, the location couldn't be better, on one of the most expensive blocks in the world from Hollywood Pensione to the Lake across the street from the lake and at the top of Michigan Avenue.

I was pleasantly surprised when checking in to this hotel. Even-though we only stayed one night, the hotel was elegant and provided excellent service. We ordered room service, since we arrived late and the food was excellent, room service was fast and very courteous. I have nothing to say but wonderful comments about this hotel. Room was large with great view of the downtown area, comfortable beds with nice linens and great toiletries.

Great hotel, great staff, lovely rooms and views, great location for grant park, CTA red line, and downtown universities. You do pay for the amenities and plushness. Only two restaurant options inside so have to consider external options if variety, price or specific type of entertainment meaningful. Ask for corner rooms with provide additional window. Great place when able to get value rate for downtown hotel.

Classy, classic big city business hotel. Staff is generally friendly, professions and on point. It is a busy, active hotel so be prepared, but the building and rooms are beautiful and updated. Good location, close to McCormick Place and accessible to restaurants and CTA

The location conditions, subway about 5 blocks, How can close in about three blocks Family Mart, the nearest super Ralph's and about 6 blocks, and not very convenient. Just like a hotel where there is a venerable old, such as the optional tour bus came to pick always. Room may or is sufficiently wide, was also satisfied with such equipment.

Dougald is a gentleman and an excellent host. The building is a beautiful old home full of character and is exceptionally quiet - especially considering where it is located in Hollywood.
Wished I could have stayed longer. With private car parking and a clean welcoming and pretty spacious accommodation it exceeds similar priced alternatives.

    I recommend it highly.
