My husband and I really wanted a special night away and stumbled upon Querencia via google searches.  Their website was beautiful, the food looked delicious and they had one open room.  We were hoping that Querencia would meet our expectations and I can honestly say that our expectations were far exceeded!

We were greeted by Mike and MaryJo who were warm and welcoming and within minutes we each a glass of wine in our hands.  After settling into our room we moved out to the patio to enjoy the last of the sunset and appetizers.   The food that night was amazing which complimented the environment to create a truly blissful evening.

After a wonderful nights sleep with the stillness of the moutains, our luxurious bed and the heat of the fireplace, we were greeted with fresh baked scones, cinnamon rolls and coffee on our terrace.  We leisurely enjoyed our morning and then wandered out to the great room for our second course of fresh fruit, juice and more scones.  Then the main entree came.  I ordered eggs benedict and my husband had an omlete. I can only talk about my breakfast as i didn't even try my husbands because I didn't want to waste a single bite of my eggs benedict.  It was perfect!  Fresh spinach, heirloom tomatoes, lean canadian bacon, fresh baked english muffins and the hollandaise sauce....YUM!

It was a perfect getaway and although we only stayed one night, it felt like much longer.  We will be returning to Querencia for years to come!

I should have written this last summer after we went.....This is a beautiful, first-class, unique place to stay for a special occasion.  The views/property are amazing and the homemade food is great.  If you also want to have dinner in Murphys, try the Victoria Inn downtown.

Querencia is more than lovely, it is a bit of paradise. We were there for our second stay in mid-March and even though the weather was blustery outside it was wonderful to experience the hospitality of the MacFarlane's.
They are unbelieveable cooks and delightful hosts. There was not a thing that had not been thought of for our comfort. Beautiful rooms, lots of privacy and close to Murphy's for a little bit of night life. This is a place not to be missed!

Beautiful property in the hills above Murphy. My husband and I visited on a Saturday night in January.

Mary Jo and Mike are great hosts -- fun to talk to and attentive, but also very willing to give guests their privacy.

The building is amazing. In addition to the guest rooms, you have access to a great room and a reading room with plenty of comfy couches and reading material. Every room has an amazing view.

Our room was great -- propane fireplace, amazing stone shower, nice linens. It's nice that they have TV's in the room, but they aren't a focal point like in most hotels.

    Food was great!
    Cookies upon arrival.
Wine and appetizers before we headed into Murphys for dinner.
Chocolates waiting for us when we returned.
Three-course breakfast: amazing scones, fruit & yogurt, then your choice of main dish. The egg white omelet was delicious.

A bit spendy, but definitely worth the splurge for a romantic weekend away!

This place is beautiful. It is a destination in itself, but also close to Murphys, Calvaras Big Trees park, and lots of other local attractions.

Mary Jo and Mike are excellent hosts - and excellent cooks. If you are on a diet, be warned! They will accommodate any dietary restrictions, but good luck resisting the fresh cookies and other goodies they offer up. Breakfast was fresher than fresh, courtesy of their chickens and on-site garden. Although I did not sample any, I suspect their wine selection is quite good, as well.

Querencia sits on top of a hill and has 360-degree views. There are lots of indoor & outdoor areas to sit and relax. The house is quirky and interesting in the design and decor; the rooms are more traditional, with ultra-luxurious beds. All in all, an excellent place to relax, take in the views, and enjoy excellent hospitality from two hosts who know how to do it right.

I've been home for seven hours now and I'm still buzzing from the exquisite magic that is Querencia.

Perhaps it's about the place: perched high on a hilltop, carved out of numerous artistic visions joined by the hip and fused with elaborate joy.

Perhaps it's about the food.  Because they don't just cook.  They understand cuisine.  They tickle the senses from the moment you awake to the scent of blackberry scones baking to the last chocolate truffle and "stolen" sip of 1985 vintage Tawny from the secret wine cellar.

Or perhaps, and most likely, it's about Mike and Mary Jo.  Yes, the rooms are lush, the grounds kissed by dragonfly and bat wings, the earth itself tickled to wake you with sun spilling over mountain tops and tuck you in with a wash of red as you settle in for some Indian Rock zinfandel in the hot tub.

But really, a place like this comes alive based on the vision of people, and the people - the proprietors - make Querencia a place of distinct character, unique vision and yeah, I'm certain there's something in the water, because I'm already jonesing to get back there.

Get on the phone.  Make a reservation.  There are only 4 rooms, they only take guests for the weekend, and you need to stay there before you die.

Querencia is the perfect destination for a romantic getaway.  The location is fantastic, especially the amazing views.  The view from the bathtub in our room was better than our entire house.  Mike and Mary Jo always make you feel like family.  And the breakfast is amazing.  Coffee and scones waiting outside your door when you wake up, what more could you ask for?

Heaven on earth! Peaceful, luxurious, romantic, and unforgettable! From the moment we were greeted by Mike and Mary Jo we knew this was different from any other weekend getaway. The nightly wine and appetizers were beyond what you would ever expect, pretty much a small dinner. Each morning hot scones and coffee brought to our room, then a beautiful breakfast was served in the garden. Mary Jo had cupcakes and a candle in our room for my husbands birthday, so very thoughtful! We will be back! Loved every minute!

Very romantic, very quiet, very beautiful and the breakfast and appetizers were WONDERFUL!  It was a great overnight getaway for me and my husband after a stressful week. Seems expensive, but we didn't go out to dinner and the evening appetizers and wine (included) were fine plenty.  Breakfast was spectacular, especially the scones. Very remote drive up to Querencia, but only about 2 hours from Pleasanton. Do it!!

    Slice of heaven!

Stayed at many B&B's in US and Europe - none of them come close to this one.

What a terrific experience.  Mike and Mary Jo are fantastic at making you feel welcome in there beautiful home.

And what cooks!  Amazing!!!   Of course, Mike will tell you "it's easy" when you ask about one of his dishes, but I guess that's what makes them so good!

If you want a nice weekend escape for you and your spouse, this is your place!

Just a note:  There is sporadic cell phone service there, but I thought it a blessing!

Indeed, we also had a joyful stay.  Nicola took me here and what a delightful surprise for me - I enjoyed asking and hearing from M&M about the construction and challenges in building this spacious B&B.  The architecture was interesting and suited me, the decor in the rooms and common areas were beautiful, and the scones and everything else were delicious.  I can't think of anytime I've ever had such wonderful personal service and care.  Maybe pricier than other places, but the only other reason to not stay here would be if you wanted to be in town as it's a bit of a drive up the hill (but then you get the views).  Looking forward to going back, perhaps with friends and getting a few more rooms.

We've now spent two anniversary weekends at Querencia, and can't see spending our special day anywhere else.

Mike and Mary Jo are gracious, smart, funny, talented, and just so much fun to be around.  They pay attention to details that you never anticipated.  Fresh flowers, home grown vegetables, luxurious linens, brilliant decor, exquisite food...and this list just scratches the surface of what makes Querencia a magical place.

If you would enjoy a relaxing retreat at the top of the world, be sure to give Querencia a try.  The property is on the market, so make sure to drop in soon.
