the hotel is in a nice location. marina view on one side and harbor on the other. we did the $189 for an overnight stay, dinner for 2, and breakfast. The room was very nice and although i'm sure (I hope) the sheets were laundered, there were some questionable stains on them..i hope it was wine and not blood. ewwwwwww Anyway, drinks in the bar were very good but the bartender was a bit um .. bitchy.. yes HE was. Also, the nite front desk guy was the same. However, all the other staff was terrific. Raul at breakfast was a crackup... ask about his seagull friend!! Dinner was sooo good. I had scallop linguine and the scallops were plentiful and huge! My hub had seafood raviolit which was really really good. The service was a bit slow and thus i ended up with two glasses of wine but one got comp'd so it was all good.  All in all a very nice get-a-way that i would definetely recommend. O ... go right next door to the backstage lounge at humphreys for bands, dancing, and cocktails.

This place is awesome! No matter which way you look there's the ocean. The service is out of this world (except for both the male and female bar managers who were as surly and unpleasant as it gets, and overcharge for coffee/soft drinks, but since we don't drink it is not a problem-we just stayed away from the bar). The restaurant has absolutely excellent food. Everything we ordered was tasty, and the chefs obviously take pride in their work. The pool/jacuzzi area is kept in perfect shape, and at night you can chill outside while there are concerts next door, where you can see the artist right from the jacuzzi, and hear the music clear as day. Since it is a 2-story hotel, there are no long elevator rides, and the rooms are immaculate. The view of Coronado Bay is breathtaking, and there are enough of the coolest military ships, and sometimes jets during the day to watch to keep you busy for hours as you chill out on the balcony. Did I mention the free breakfast buffet? Again, the chefs do take pride in their work, and it shows. Nothing beats waking up to a perfectly cooked breakfast that you can go back and fill your plate with more of. My wife and I had to go as easily as our will would let us in order to enjoy lunch in Little Italy etc. This is definitely the best hotel stay we have ever had, and would come here again and again!

I am writing to review the restaurant... We went there as part of the "Groupon" deal for an anniversary dinner and were less than pleased with the experience. The staff was quite unprofessional in the dining room, they were chatting like old friends at our table, and talking about their managers within earshot. The food was ok, but definitely nothing special and definitely overpriced. We got the feeling that this place used to be super classy and they're trying to hold on to that but someone has let it slip over the years. Great for the view, but really that's all.

I have been going to the bay club for many years now!  I just love this place!  The location is great and the food is wonderful!  Definitely try the bread with the homemade yummy butter!  The service is always above average and the general manager is a very nice guy!  My husband and I stay here anytime we have to go to the airport or just need a little get away!  I definitely recomend the Bay Club for a nice relaxing and very enjoyable vacation!

We stayed here last week! 169.00 for the room with the full view--very pretty view of the san diego skyline and bay! We got the "Hawaii package" only because I noticed it was the same price was the room but parking was included, which is 5 dollars a day so i thought might was well. it also came with a 2 free drink coupon from the rather lame bar- we just got soda as well as a plate with strawberries, pineapple and the most delicious white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. Yes the decor of the hotel is outdated but ya get what u pay for!

I have stayed at the hotel here and kept a boat at the Bay Club marina for many years. This is a classy and casual establishment that is close to the airport, is always kept clean, has a terrific restaurant, is right next to Humphrey's concerts and jazz bar and is in the foremost yacht club area of San Diego. The hotel is noted for its friendly ,outgoing, and unpretentious staff, its complimentary breakfast buffets and accommodations including heated pool, hot tub, bar with fireplace, exercise room, parking garage and safe and quiet neighborhood with unsurpassed views of San Diego bay from both sides of the hotel. There is a helpful concierge, attentive security, free wifi, flat screen  TVs, clean laundry room and bathrooms for yachtsmen. The Bay Club is not a brand new flashy hotel, but  rather a well respected resort  where guests enjoy dining and relaxing and compared to other options-I'll pick the Bay Club for value and enjoyment every time.

First off this place is almost in a perfect spot if you're visiting San Diego. I booked two nights with a marina view but was very disappointed with the view and called front desk to ask for a bay view and they happily changed it for me. This hotel has great staff and service. The view was great and my daughter loved seeing the boats go by. Also this hotel includes free Wi-Fi and a breakfast buffet which includes eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, French toast, around three types of cereals, and toast. This place is in the middle of all the attractions and is 15 min away from down town, little Italy, sports arena, sea world, Balboa Park and 10 away from the airport. The room is pretty basic with a 42" plasma and a small mini fridge. You also get a balcony or patio depending on what level you're on. I recommend the second floor for the best view. I paid $101 per night booking through the hotel web site. I would recommend this hotel with anyone looking for a hotel with great service and a great view.

The restaurant here was very nice. I don't know why some people refer to it as overpriced, when you'll pay half again as much in the gaslamp for half as decent food. We both had the filet with crabmeat, it was very tasty. You can't beat the $10 corkage fee, what a bargain. The view was great at sunset, and the fact that it is small, and relatively quiet made it a very calm and peaceful dinner, much better than at crowded noisy places that are twice as expensive. With a groupon, it was a great deal, and I would go back.

Everything about having an event at this hotel was first class. The banquet staff, the hotel manager and the person we worked with in the booking office were fantastic!  Someone did mention in a review earlier that it's not the newest or most top of the line facility, and it's true, but the service trumps any of that.  We were able to stay the night because of the tremendous room rates offered us and nothing is better than waking up with either the harbor or marina view.

Big fan of this hotel! The service was right on and very timely. We have all been to hotels and requested items and they would show up 10 minuts after you forgot that you had ordered them. Not this place. The FREE REAL BREAKFAST was great. No more to say than that. The room with the bay view was superb. I couldn't have been more happy. Well, I could have but it was a great room. It only cost $5 to park overnight. The bellman was helpful and fast. Great place!

We stayed here for almost a week while we were in the middle of moving. While the front desk staff was good the restaurant was overpriced. The hotel was dirty and old looking. We had a funny smell in both of our rooms and mildew in the showers. My mother-in-law had a roach in her shower and my husband found a centipede in ours the next morning. Also, half of the rooms in the hotel have wonderful views of dumpsters and the backs of other buildings. For $160 a night I expect more. The pool does have a nice view as does the restaurant. The breakfast was better than what you're usually offered and the servers at breakfast were friendly and helpful. I Will not reserve a room here again.

I've probably stayed at the Bay Club 20 - 25 times over the past three years, on visits to my son who lives in Little Italy. Obviously I like it fine or I would go somewhere else, already. Over time I do think the overall "Bay Club experience" has gone downhill just a very little bit, suggesting that corners are being cut to keep prices down.  The free breakfast buffet just isn't what it used to be.  I had to laugh at another reviewer who said the scrambled eggs could be molded into superballs and she had to cut the pancakes with a knife.  It's really true, they're like leather, and the eggs are the hardest I've ever encountered.  The bacon, though, is very nice.  There used to be more choices of bread and rolls and fresh fruit, for instance.  And the thing that gets to me is why on earth are there no screen doors onto the tiny little patios with every room?  I love the fresh air but the place fills up with flies pretty quickly most of the year.  The rooms are fine, and they get made up most days (but housekeeping often misses one here and there for some reason), and yes, as others have pointed out, the staff is really friendly and helpful, which is worth one whole star right there.  It could be better but I feel it is good value compared to other hotels in the area and it's become something of an old friend.  A morning stroll after breakfast along the waterfront hiking and biking path where you meet many other locals walking their dogs or having a jog is a great benefit of staying on Shelter Island (and helps get your mind off the weird breakfast buffet).  One warning: do not stay in a marina-facing room on a night when there is an outdoor concert at Humphreys right next door, unless you won't be in your room before 10PM, when they have to stop.  Check the Humphreys website when making your travel plans.

I've just returned from a delightful stay at the Bay Club Hotel and Marina.  After seeing the mixed reviews, I had no idea what to expect; however, we had a wonderful getaway.  The staff could not have been more friendly, helpful and courteous.  The resort was offering deals, so there was definitely a good value.  The rooms were great, although a bit dated, but just fine.  The beds were comfortable with upscale linens, the room appointments extremely satisfactory, and the views are fantastic.  The hotel has a gorgeous marina on the North side with views of Point Loma.  The Southern view is of San Diego bay, North Island Naval Air Station, and the San Diego downtown skyline.

We ate dinner at the restaurant and it was a great meal.  With a beautiful view of the marina and sunset, we noshed on delicious bread with herbed butter until our starters arrived.  I recommend the clam chowder, which was one of the best I've ever eaten.  The house salad was delicious but the Italian and Feta dressing didn't suit the the salad flavors.  We suggested to the waiter to advise the chef a citrus vinaigrette might have been a nicer compliment to the mandarin orange, slivered almonds and blue cheese over field greens.  We both ordered filet mignon, mine with crab and asparagus, and both of us were amazed at the quality of beef and perfectly cooked steaks.  The accompaniments were also delicious, including lovely fresh mixed vegetables and potato.

The complimentary breakfast the next morning allows the option to sit inside or outside.  It was a gorgeous morning today so we opted for outside.  While the kitchen fan made quite a bit of noise and sort of ruined the outdoor ambience, we looked past it and everything from the food & beverage options to the service was perfect.

Yes, the hotel is not brand new, and no it hasn't been remodeled in the last 10 years, but it's tastefully done, clean and comfortable with great deals, gorgeous views and service.  I would give this hotel 3 stars (Mobil) or diamonds (AAA).  This hotel is a real find, especially because of the specials they offer.  We also commend the staff who anticipated our needs, were happy to please and seemed very well trained in the art of hospitality.

This is a review for the restaurant.  My coworkers took me here for lunch for my birthday, after a recommendation from one of the coworkers who frequents this restaurant.  As others have said, the hotel overall seems a bit outdated, and that lackluster decor carries through to the restaurant as well.  However, I found the restaurant to be a very pleasant casual dining experience.  There's a nice view out to the Shelter Island harbor, and Point Loma provides the backdrop.

For lunch, there were many seafood items on the menu that looked delicious, along with a few chicken items and various sandwiches.  I had the Grilled Salmon entree salad, and it was excellent.  The salmon was cooked just right, and there was plenty of it; two fillets on top of the salad, and the feta vinaigrette dressing was amazing.  Everyone else in our 7-person party seemed to like their meals as well.

The service wasn't perfect.  My food came a few minutes later than everyone else's food.  The staff seemed flustered because there was an unusually large crowd (my coworker confirmed that this is the busiest she had ever seen the place).  I would like to go again and see if the service is better on a more typical day.

Overall, I liked the place and I consider it a hidden gem.  It's one of those rare hotel restaurants that is actually better than the hotel itself.  I plan on going back again and trying more of the appealing items on the menu.

Don't let the weathered appearance scare you. Husband and I enjoyed a very nice overnight from the moment we walked in the lobby. The front desk attendant was friendly and upgraded us to a lovely corner room with views of the marina. Our room was nicely furnished and the bedding was soft and inviting. I have no idea if we had neighbors because I never heard a peep from anyone around us.

The pool area is small but very comfortable, with new loungers and a nice hot hot-tub. A plus for me! The complimentary breakfast was standard but delicious and filled us up perfectly.

Just spent our 43rd anniversary here, taking advantage of a super deal of room//dinner package for $159.  What a great time we had there. The service was awesome, our room was clean, comfortable and roomy. We both enjoyed a delicious filet mignon dinner.  The view of  the bay and San Diego city lights from our room was  beautiful. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this hotel.

My wife and I stayed here July 4th. The website stated 3 night minimum, but called and received a great rate on two nights. This is the second time we've stayed at the Bay Club and it won't be the last. For those looking for a quieter setting compared to Mission or Pacific Beach, Shelter Island and Point Loma is the place. The Bay Club is very nice and clean, the room was excellent and the included full breakfast tasty. I highly recommend the Bay Club, especially for the Big Bay Boom firework show!

Not bad! We spent the past weekend there and enjoyed it. Sheets are fine thread with a warm, but thin blanket. Pillows need to be replaced, though. Maid was professional and was tipped accordingly. Breakfast was FINE...It was FREE! So don't complain...Their eggs were done just right. The bacon was done so-so, but again, NOT BAD.. Fresh lobby coffee EARLY...Big plus.
No matter who was manning the front desk when I walked downstairs, I WAS GREETED...Another plus.

Only gripe: They have no business charging for parking... I call BS on that maneuver.

I did enjoy my stay, the rooms were very comfortable and the staff was friendly.

BUT if you arent a rich older person, you WILL get treated differently. But I guess I should have taken that into consideration when I got all my tattoos and booked a room right next to a marina. The pool is a little small and the hours for the pool and hot tub are horrible.... If im having a good time, dont kick me out?! AND Humphreys Half Moon ALWAYS has a band playing that you can clearly hear from your hotel room, and there is always a ton of people flooding to their stage.

Oh, and the 'security guard' basically told me he knew better than I did when I warned him not to let someone drive that was leaving the parking lot and was obviously drunk.

Other than that, its a cosy place to bring your family on vacation.

Considering the location; the restaurant is very good. It is a much better choice than the Humphreys By The Bay Restaurant. The price is reasonable and it is VERY close to the concert venue if you need a bite before the concert.

It has a nice view and the service was decent but not great!!!

They had a full bar and it was full of tourists but it was nice to go here before the concert.

I've experienced better simply because this place is very weathered.  It's seen better days, and is some serious need of renovation.  1/2 off apps. at the bar was cool, as was the view.   We thought the starters were better than the entrees.  Took a couple of tourists there, and that's probably the only reason to check this out.  With a revamped menu and better ambiance, I'd change my rating.

Stayed here for a night because a client recommended it.  The rooms and the facility as a whole was old and dingy.  The whole thing reminded me of a place old people would stay if they went on vacation.  The free continental breakfast was ok.

However, the service was good.  I was traveling with other coworkers and we had a bunch of flight problems leading us to cancel and rebook a few times.  Every time we called they were polite, patient, and helpful.  They even let me apply a credit to a walk in from the previous night when I was a no show.

I don't think I would stay here again if I had the choice unless there was a major renovation.  Can't comment on the marina access since we were only there for one night.

Booked this hotel to spend the night after Humphreys concert.  Hotel was 2 minute walk to Humphreys and the room was very nicely appointed.  Staff upon checkin was awesome, as well as all other employees.  Complimentary breakfast in the morning was surprisingly tasty and complete with bacon, choice of eggs, potatoes, etc.  Rooms were spacious and clean with very nice bay or marina views.  This is a well run hotel with some nice features at an affordable price.  I will definitely return to his gem.  Hint:  recommend second floor to take advantage of spectacular views.

On the recommendation of a friend my wife and I went here for an anniversary dinner.  I was a little skeptical when I found out it was located in a hotel because I never cared for "hotel restaurants" that cater to a captive audience.   But I was told that if you were looking for a good quiet dinner with a great view that also wasn't overpriced, ultra hipster, or with blaring music overhead, this was a great option.   We had a table for two that looked right out on the marina with Point Loma in the background.   The wine list was pretty solid and not overpriced.   We started off with some baked cheese pastries that were pretty unique and also pretty tasty.  I had the Filet of Oscar which I haven't had in a really long time.  It was really good!  I tried my wife's Mahi Mahi with Cilantro Sauce and it was quite yummy.  They cooked the fish just right and the Cilantro Sauce went really well it.  I appreciated that the chef had enough confidence in the food quality that he didn't feel the need get all "fusion" with the menu items (which is carried out to the point of ridiculousness at a lot of places).  The food was just well prepared and good.  Our server was helpful and attentive and we were really satisfied and the bill didn't blow the budget for the month.
I noticed that it was right next door to Humphries and you can actually see the stage from the outside patio seating.   Our server told us that a lot of people come here before concerts or even just reserve a patio table for dinner and listen to the show while they eat.   Since Elvis Costello is playing next week it looks like we will be back real soon!

It's probably the best kept secret for happy hour in town. There is outside seating with a view of the boats in the harbor. Half price appys from 4pm, the seared ahi tuna is generous and the best 6$ you'll spend in San Diego!  If you are lucky enough to be served by Laurie, she might even remember that you drank a Pinot your last visit. Amazing!

My grandma and I stayed here for two nights, a Sunday and a Monday in October.  The front desk receptionist was very helpful and nice!  We really liked her.  You can tell that she was very concerned about customer service.  We also really liked the man that waited tables during the continental breakfast.  I believe his name was Gerry.  He was extremely helpful and attentive!  I've never had someone give you any sort of service during a continental breakfast.  He was fast, paid attention to detail, and was very friendly.  He refilled coffees, juices, cleared plates, etc.

The quality of the food at the continental breakfast was probably 3 stars as well.  It was OK, kind of like cafeteria food.  The first day I ate the hot eggs and bacon and pancakes, but the second day I just stuck with the fresh fruit and english muffins with cereal.

The condition of our room was a little sub-par, though.  The carpet was kinda old and a little stained.  We didn't have hand soap in our room the first day and were disappointed that it was also missing the second day.  We went to the front desk and our favorite receptionist said she'd have someone send soap right away, and sure enough, it came soon after.  The bathtub was pretty leaky, as in the faucet never really stopped dripping.  The bathroom was quite outdated as well with some of the tiles around the bathtub looking a little worn away.  Beds were comfortable though, and the view was great!  I loved having a balcony that was hanging over the water and overlooking the marina.  We even saw a baby sting ray swim by our balcony.

There was also a strange dirty coffee cup sitting in the hallway by our door for a long time on Monday... kinda strange that no one picked it up, or that someone left it there for that matter...

I might stay here again if they did some renovations!  Otherwise I might like to try another place.

Part two of my stay... When i was ready to check out I see an extra charge of $75.75 for the bar area Saturday night. I was never at the bar! I was at the movies with the kids! The bill was for one person and it was $75! Worse part was that when they signed for the bill they scribbled the name but to make it look like my name. When i approached the manager and told him i was not at the bar, and someone used my name to sign for it. To me it was definitely someone from the staff who did it. Who and how would someone know my name and room number???? I also told the manager I want to know who did it, because that is identity theft and i want to press charges. The manager did not want to give me a name, he said that the staff ASSUMED it was me because someone who is also staying at the hotel might have the same initials as i do. Yeah right... it clearly reads my name. Dont stay here, protect your identity. Two false charges in one day.  Do they not check ID's when ordering alcohol????? This hotel is very unproffesional, dirty and if i can i would give it a negative star.

After a lengthy conversation with these guys they were supposed to book me a room on the second floor with two queen beds. When we got to our room it only had a king bed. That's not what we needed. So, we went back and they gave me a room on the first floor "overlooking" the marina. Pretty annoyed at this point but rolling with it. This place is set up really weird - so weird that patrons in other rooms can peer around the patio corner and look at you. We had a weirdo lady next to us who peered around the corner multiple times. That was the last straw. I had to ask them to move us because of this creeper lady. We ended "upgrading" to a suite that we paid extra for.

The breakfast is gross. You have to get the food, seat yourself, get your utencils and drink, etc. They actually have the audacity to drop off a check for a $0 balance with a tip line. What is it exactly I am tipping for here? Ridiculous.

The rooms are disturbing. Our AC didn't work. Bugs flying around in the room (gnats). The views suck. There is a smell about the entire place.

The mattresses are horrible and you won't sleep well in this s-hole.

One of the desk gentleman was really nice and tried his best to make us comfortable but there's only so much that can be done at this point.

Our favorite place to stay in San Diego.  Staff is very friendly and seem to be happy you are staying with them.  All public rooms are kept very clean.  Nice restauraant with great value for you food.  A wonderful hot buffet breakfast is included with your stay.  Now to our room.  This time we werein #251 overlooking the harbor so we could watch the ships comming in and out.  Room was clean but in need of some updating..ie the drapes and sheers and the shower rod.  And the Wi fi was almost no existient in this room.  Couldn't even get good reception on our cell phones. We will probably still stay here because of the staff but hope they update the rooms soon.  We also had a problen with a toilet the kept backing up and once had to have someone come in a 4 AM to use the plunger.  This was the second time within 24 hours that they had to use the plunger in our room.

We live in San Diego and have stayed in quite a few hotels around the city. We like to take 24 hour mini vacations for kids birthdays and stuff like that. This place was really neat. Not the newest hotel around, but pretty clean overall. Nice sized rooms. We had a bay view room with a view of North Island and the city skyline in the distance. If you had the wrong room on this side of the building your view could be obstructed so watch out for that. Room 271 was good! The staff was friendly. Parking was easy. The park across the street is really nice too. You can walk along the bay for a long time with a view of Point Loma and North Island. Great to watch all the big ships going in and out of the bay. If you are coming in from out of town, this is a great part of SD to see.

I stayed at the Bay Club Hotel for two nights over a weekend, costing about $150 a night.  I also had the Drive to Hawaii package ($15) plus a bottle of champagne ($18) to celebrate a special occasion.  As some others have mentioned, it's an older property - but overall clean, comfortable and cozy.  The hotel rooms overlook either the marina or bay.  My second floor room had a marina view with a comfy king bed and other wood/bamboo (Polynesian style) furnishings. There was also a coffeemaker, a mini-refrigerator and a high-definition TV.  Since it's a fairly small property, it was easy to get around.  Parking is $5 per night and there's an adequately sized underground parking lot.  I had their complimentary breakfast each morning too; nothing spectacular, but not bad either.  For dinner one time, I ate at Humphrey's restaurant next door - a fantastic place for a special meal.  Overall, it was a good stay and would consider returning to the Bay Club Hotel, especially if they had a special offer or discounted rate.

My family stayed at the Bay Club for three nights recently.  We chose it because we saw many positive customer reviews, but it was not a good choice in the end.  I would not recommend this hotel.

Our first night we were placed in a first floor room next to the lobby.  We could clearly hear every footstep from the room above us, and the wall heater screeched every time it shut off, which meant waking up all night long.  The bathroom in this particular room was worn and dirty, with permanent stains on much of the tile grout and yellowed peeling caulk around the toilet.  They said they could not move us until the second night because the hotel was full.

On the second night, we got a room on the second floor, but on the bay side.  We were kept up until nearly 11pm by helicopters at the navy base across the bay.  They were very loud even with the windows closed (all old single-pane with no sound insulating value).  The next morning, we were awakened by people walking by on the street, vehicles driving by, and a trash truck dumping the waste bins.

The final insult was on our last morning there when the hot water went out.  First they told us it was a scheduled water heater replacement and there was nothing they could do except bring us some boiling water to wash up with.  Then they claimed the water heater had gone out and they were waiting for a repair truck.  After my wife gave them an earful, somehow they managed to get some hot water in the pipes and we were able to shower before leaving.

Their breakfast is quite good, and it's real food rather than something heated out of a box.  But we had a lot of trouble finding anyplace to sit and eat it.  If you don't mind fighting the crowd, this could be a positive for you.

There are some other positives to this place, but they aren't important if you can't get a good night's sleep or a hot shower!  Just do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

We just stayed here for three days to celebrate our anniversary and we are coming back for sure!   I only paid 149.00 per night thanks to San Diego Hotel week AND the fact that this is the off season for this particular Hotel.   If you are local San Diegan who has lived here for over 20 years, you will appreciate the culture of the Marina area of Shelter Island.

The free breakfast is awesome, tons of different types of food.  The staff are all native San Diegans who know the area so I enjoyed watching football yesterday talking to them.

Yes there are stains on the carpet because stupid people spill coffee, food, drinks on it  sh*t happens but if that is your biggest complain and that was why you gave this place two stars...stay at the W next time. This place is not for those of you who are looking down at the carpet but rather are looking up at the beautiful view you are surrounded with on Shelter Island.

We are coming back for two day during holidays! They promised to give us the same room for the same price.  NOTE:  prices go up in the Spring time to 200.00 per premium room. If you take a downstairs room, it is a lower cost.

    See you soon Bay Club!

Loved staying here with it's view of the bay, and being able to watch the concerts at Humphreys (which is next door) from your room!  Stayed multiple times and the staff was always friendly.  However, I have to say that it's been 10 years since I've visited this area so things may have changed.  Seafood was great at the restaurant.

Great location and views! So so happy with this hotel. Built in the 80's so it's a tad older...but just get the bay view and you will wake up to sunrises. So worth it. Small hotel so it's cozy and quiet. It's an older crowd as well here. Free bfast buffet that's different every morning and great restaurant/bar and friendly staff! You feel as if you have known them for years! If you want a cozy, quiet stay with ocean views...this is your place! We will be back! :)

We decided to eat out this Thanksgiving and we were truly grateful for the wonderful service at the Bay Club Bar and Grill Restaurant. They served the traditional style meal: turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, and apple or pumpkin pie. Yummy. The view of the harbor and all the boats was amazing. Looks like a really nice hotel as well.

I stayed overnight here after my boyfriend surprised me with the trip. He and two other friends had already booked the hotel so I had no idea where we were staying. The hotel itself is cute and clean in appearance. Our room was quaint and cozy...I believe it was for customers with disabilities because the tub and bathroom surfaces were much lower than normal but it gave us tons of room so there were no complaints there.

The front desk was very friendly and the atmosphere overall was nice and fairly quiet (I'm not a huge fan of staying in hotels where there are big families with tons of kids running around and screaming).

My boyfriend got sick the first night we were there so I called the Front Desk to find out if they had anything that could help. The woman on the phone had a bit of an attitude (I'm guessing she was hoping to not have to do anything during the night shift)...she said they didn't have room service at that time but I could come to the front desk and purchase something from their store, which was closed but she would retrieve what I needed.

So I went to the front desk and got a 7-Up and Pepto-Bismol. I had a $20 bill but she said she'd rather charge it to the card on the account because she didn't want to deal with cash and giving me change. Ummm...really? It was a total of $1.75. But I was more concerned about getting the stuff to my boyfriend so I said okay and had to sign a little slip for her to charge it to his credit card.

The breakfast buffet was very good..they offered pancakes, two types of scrambled eggs, sausages, waffles, veggies, coffee and orange juice. I was a little disgusted though when I turned over the empty coffee mug on my table and it had layers of dried cheese inside...guess the dishwasher wasn't working too well. But other than that, the food was excellent.

The front desk staff during the day shift are MUCH nicer than the night shift so be sure to check the time if you may need anything from them.

Wife and I stayed for a local stay -vacation.  Loved the package deal for dinner and room and breakfast.  Nice greeting by Jody at the front desk.  We arrived early for an early check in...now how about 5 hrs. early on a busy Sunday with lots of late checkouts?  She was great, and was checking out people as we 'check-in' but promised to call as rooms came available.  Took my cell and us just as we wrapped up our lunch and long walk on the harbor, let us know our room was ready.   Nice bayside view with a balcony to watch the sun rise.  Worth it and special thanks to Patti and Ale (Alejandra).  We will be back and so will our friends with the boat at SD Yacht Club.  Give me a break on the funky old stuffed man at the piano,  Brings character to the place.  He doesn't bite.

The room was clean and didn't smell.
We had the bay view king size room. The room is HUGE.
large flat screen tv, fridge, coffee maker, blowdryer...would've been nice if it had a microwave in it.
Our balcony (upstairs) was right on the corner so we had a closer view of the bay..

When we made the reservation the lady said we had a "marina view" room at the same price (internet special of $152 per nite) we got there we had the "bay view" room (so you are directly above the parking lot) and the guy @ the front desk said the marina view was more expensive (but I wasn't told that on the phone earlier)

The room decor is a little outdated but it's clean and good for the price! The parking is only $5 a nite. The other hotels there on the island charge more and there was one I can't remember which that didn't charge you for parking but the basic room was $20 more.

    Cool little hotel...

Super Cheesy decor in the lobby and the hotel rooms look like they havent had any TLC in quite a while, but the bar staff is super friendly and they have a great pool area.  I usually go with a friend who has a boat in the marina as I live in the area.  You can also see the concerts at Humphreys if you're sitting in the hot tub!!!

Deciding it was too late and too far for the two man Channel 70 crew to drive back to Burbank, we checked into the Bay Club; an old friend. I asked for and got an upper floor room overlooking the marina. What a view! This is an older hotel and the soundproofing is very good. Quiet is the word. Even in the wee morning hours the lights, sea scent, and night birds, make everything perfect as I prepare for our trip to LA and another day of work.
Note: if you drive a large vehicle be warned the parking spaces seem very narrow here

I came here on 12/21/2012 and booked my room through HotelTonight and paid $79 for the room & $10 for taxes & fees. There was a parking fee of $10/night but all in all, I felt like the room was worth it. The location was great with a lot of food options nearby and the room was spacious. I was lucky because the weather was beautiful next day and I literally got to walk across the street to enjoy the bay! The view from my room was amazing and the hotel had a nice, cozy feel to it. The complimentary breakfast buffet was the best I have ever had. The potatoes were seasoned perfectly and the eggs weren't the cheap, microwaveable kind. They had salsa set out and your choice of sausage and/r bacon. I noticed they had strudels and bread as well but I didn't have any. The dining area was right next to the marina, so we had a view of that during breakfast as well. I would highly recommend staying here for a romantic get-away!

    **Great value - no nickel-and-diming**
I looked at various hotels in the San Diego area and this one came up as one of the top values with consistently high ratings by travelers (based on reviewers at other hotel sites).  With bay front/marina views averaging about $90-$130 night, it's hard to beat the deals here. Other big chain waterfront hotels in San Diego charge double the rate of the Bay Club ($150-250) - in addition to resort fees or  parking fees over $20 plus an extra fee for breakfast and internet connection.  At the Bay Club, they offer complimentary breakfast, internet connection and airport/Amtrak shuttle service with parking at only $5 per night. It's little "extras" like this that matter to me (and probably to most average travelers), which is why this hotel gets mostly positive reviews from other travel sites.  So, while it's not the biggest, fanciest or newest hotel on the block, it makes up for with the extras that matter along with a friendly helpful staff, a cozy atmosphere and a lovely waterfront location.  The rooms are warmly decorated with natural wood and bamboo furnishing with most facing the marina or bay.  Another big plus is the convenient location.  It's within walking distance to other restaurants in Shelter Island and a short drive to downtown San Diego.  Far away enough from the hustle and bustle of the big city, yet close enough to make for a fun and convenient stay.

Okay, how this place got some great reviews is absolutely beyond me. Check out my pictures.. We walked in and were greeted by construction, not mentioned prior to our arrival.. And at $150/night its not like the pricing reflected the hotel's current state. There were roaches in the bathroom when we got to our room. The front desk staff made me feel like I was expecting too much when I asked for an extra towel to go to the pool with, and said "well most guests just walk through in their bathing suits". Excuse me? You want me to parade through the dining area in front of guests eating dinner to get to the pool in my bikini because you are too lazy to simply pass me a towel?? That's not classy no matter how you spin it. Walls are paper thin, we could hear the neighbor's television until 2am... Didn't dare ask for earplugs after the towel incident.. I'm really confused as to how the breakfast received great reviews. There was hardly any food left by 9:15am and it was never replenished. See the pictures for evidence of how sanitary/appetizing this so- called continental breakfast was. You were supposed to wait for assistance in dishing up hot food but there was no one there to assist , food was left uncovered.. I don't even know what else to say. In the end, we requested our money back, showed management the photos I'm posting here, and they refunded us so we could stay elsewhere for the remainder of our trip. I would never recommend this place, I am shocked by the good reviews and am forced to believe things have gone downhill since the other reviewers posted.

Had the view of the bay and the marina...nice.  Room had a small balcony.

Kinda cheesy hotel but it is what it is.  It was comfortable.  The bed was solid.  They didn't have enough electrical outlets in the room.  Only one by the vanity area...hmmm.

FREE BREAKFAST...sausage, waffles, toast, cereal, eggs, coffee, orange juice...that was cool.

Parking was $5/night.  Surrounding area is pretty quiet.

I wanted a weekend away in San Diego to hit the San Diego Safari Park and San Diego Zoo, but I also wanted a nice resort type of hotel to relax in at the end of the day.  As anyone who's been to the Zoos will tell you, you'll walk a lot and will need to rest.

I searched and searched and read reviews and at first considered a Best Western up the coast, but then decided on something closer so we could check out the gaslamp district and be closer to the city.  I happened upon a few reviews that sang the praises of Shelter Island and we decided on the Bay Club.

We booked online, but I wanted to ensure we had a nice patio and view of the Marina so I called and specifically asked if the room we booked had a patio that we could sit on and was on the second floor.  The person on the phone said, "all our rooms have patios and reconfirmed and wished us a safe trip.

After a wonderful day at the Safari park, we were pleasantly exhausted from miles of walking on a gorgeous sunny day and we were looking forward to relaxing on the patio with a drink.  Checking in was a nice easy process and we found a great parking spot near the elevator.  We lugged our stuff up to the room and I immediately told my wife to not bother unpacking.  The patio in the room we were assigned was barely a Juliet patio.  No table, no chairs.  Being so exhausted I was VERY disappointed.  I mean, I called and specifically asked if we would have a place to sit on the patio!

I called the front desk, after taking a deep breathe and counting to ten, and told them exactly that.  She was nice enough and said the room just next door was free and told me to come down and exchange the keys. (on a side note; something similar happened to me while on another trip to San Francisco and a member of the staff ran up to bring the new key rather than making me trudge back down to the lobby)
    Summary - - - -
The room: To sum up the room, my wife put it perfectly when she said, "It's rather dated, isn't it?  You know, there's not a single thing in this room I would have in our house even if it was given to us."

The free breakfast buffet: Simply put, we didn't touch it on our second morning.  I have never needed a knife to cut pancakes before.  The uneaten eggs could easily be recycled into superballs.  The toaster had two setting, slightly warm and jet black

The coffee and juice was decent, though.

The Patio: Yeah, it had chairs, but we didn't use them because we didn't bring any cleaning products to get the black dust off and even if we did the view of the marina was only viewable if you were standing up.

I hate to be the one to low-ball, but our stay here was pretty terrible.

For starters, the pictures of the hotel online were NOT what we experienced upon arrival.  I was bummed as soon as we entered the room.  There was no sitting area, excepting a couple dining room chairs.  The room was huge, so it would have been easy to add a sofa or loveseat.  Additionally, we had only a small window, whereas even the "partial view" photos online showed rooms that allowed some outside light.

We didn't dwell on this, since we were going to be in San Diego for a week and wouldn't be spending a lot of time inside anyway, however, there were some issues we considered ridiculous and frustrating:

    1) Free Breakfast Buffet - great food selection, but the hotel policy was apparently that you had to sit down and wait for someone to deliver your silverware.  We stayed 7 days, and only once did we receive silverware and napkins before our food was cold.  My husband had to literally hunt down someone in the restaurant to ask for silverware every single day.  I actually ate with plastic silverware I brought with us one morning because we had been sitting for so long waiting for someone to give us something to eat with.

Additionally, every day we had one of the staff drop a check off with a zero balance for the free breakfast buffet, which was indication that we were expected to TIP the servers from whom we never received silverware.  Ridiculous and insulting, really.

    2) Laundry Facility - I went downstairs to run a load of clothes and there was no detergent in the dispenser.  Nobody was in the Marina office downstairs, so I went back upstairs to let the front desk know that they needed to restock their detergent, and also asked for my money back.

The front desk told me I would need to drive to a laundromat or a grocery store to purchase detergent.  Additionally, the next day (after having hunted down a laundromat to purchase detergent) my key card no longer worked for the laundry room.  I asked my husband to ask the front desk for help and they finally asked a maintenance man to open the door for us.  Too much effort for one load of clothes.

    3) MilkGate - The breakfast buffet offers whole and 2%, and the first morning we were there I filled my toddler's sippy cup with whole milk.  He kept refusing it until I took a sip only to discover it was rotten.  Freaking nasty.

The second milk issue was one evening when my husband went to the bar to get my son a glass of milk to have with his dinner.  The person tending bar was irritated by the request, and told my husband it would cost $2.25.  He only had $2 or a $20, so rather than excusing the .25 she took the $20 and complained that she had to ask the front desk for change.  Back in the room, my husband noticed she had stiffed him .75, meaning she had actually charged us $3 for an 8 ounce glass of milk.

    4) Hidden Parking Charges - this was off-season, meaning plenty of parking on the street next to the hotel.  We were told that parking was $10 - only to find that we were actually charged $10 a day to park ion the hotel garage and front parking lot.

In sum, this was our first family vacation and it was marred by the shitty experiences we had at this hotel.  Next time we visit San Diego, we are staying in Coronado.

Very polite, if overworked, staff.  Decent full breakfast included in the price of your stay here.  Decent underground parking.  Pretty lobby.  Very faded, unattractive carpet in the hallways, and faded, tacky bedspreads and decor in the rooms.  The beds in the room were VERY hard, the worst I've ever experienced in a hotel.  They insisted that all of the beds in all of the rooms were the same, but my friend told me that she had a very comfortable bed with a pillowtop in her room.  When I informed the hotel staff of this fact, they made lame excuses for having misinformed me.  They said that some of the rooms had been renovated, but could not account for the fact that when I shared my grievance, I had been told that all of the rooms in all of the beds were the same.

My husband and I stayed here a few months ago, and it was also one of the hotels we listed as an option for our wedding guests.

When we stayed, we had a lovely first floor view of the parking lot.  The room was comfortable but outdated - just really needed some TLC.  The parking spaces on the surface level are minuscule.  We did enjoy the free breakfast buffet; everyday it was a different entree, which was appreciated.  The view from the dining area is nice and for those people that aren't able to get tickets to any of the Humphreys concerts, just get a room here and hang out on their pool patio.  You can hear the music great and can see the artists on stage (although you do have to strain your eyes a bit if you absolutely have to have a look at them).

The wedding guests that stayed here all liked it and had no complaints.  My only beef with them came after one of our friends checked out and left some belongings.  We walked over, talked to the guy at the front desk who said he had to call housekeeping on their cell phone, and then told us it would be a few minutes and to sit and wait.  We waited for a good 10-15 minutes (seriously, can't you just give us a key?) and gave our name and number to the new person on shift because we wanted to go watch the sunset.  She called us only minutes later and said that housekeeping did a thorough job and nothing was found.  We called our friend, who told us it was in the top dresser drawer, and then called the hotel back and got attitude that their housekeeping staff ALWAYS checks the dresser but that she supposed she could have them check again.  Few minutes and a new, apologetic attitude later, they magically found the items in the drawer.  Go figure.

So I want to preface this with the fact that they tried.

Upon arrival, we were shown to a second floor room overlooking a pool that was undergoing construction. Our request for, and confirmation of, a first floor room was ignored. After about an hour we realized that our room was vibrating. Shaking like the T-Rex scene in Jurassic Park. It turns out we were above the kitchen, and the machinery made the room vibrate. "Don't worry, they close at 10pm."

That was the last straw. We quickly made reservations at another hotel, and cancelled the remainder of our stay. They did upgrade us for that night and the next to a "suite", but the damage was done in my mind.

Other lowlights: moldy stains ceiling, dusty room, terrible breakfast food, lack of any seating/table in room aside from a small desk.

Seriously could have derailed our whole trip had we not made alternate arrangements.

I ate at the Bay Club Bar & Grille today for lunch.

Parking was good, plenty of open spots outside the hotel door entrance.

I walked past the hotel desk and around the corner.  I saw a piano in the lobby, with what appeared to be a stuffed muppet  man-nequin wearing glasses and a suit sitting at the piano.  I walked into the bar and grille.

My server said I could sit anywhere, I chose a table at the window.  Only one other table was occupied.  I love that strong reflected light from the harbor boats.   This place was pretty quite, I could hear the conversations across the room.

The Lite Lunch - light for the price.  A scoop of tuna fish on a lettuce leaf, a small bowl of chowder, a small bowl of sliced fruit, and two rolls.

My server promptly filled my water glass and asked if I needed anything.  Nice.

I was stuffed and satisfied.  I paid with a debit card, standard tip.

This place is okay for lunch.

Watch this Hotel Staff - though the property is lovely and the locale the same, there are some serious 'issues' with Staff inadequacies both in the restaurant as well as the Front Desk girl (Patti Dee).  Many Guest complaints about snarky attitudes which need 'adjusting' off these (2) areas, of Hotel.  Mngmnt. puts up a flurry of 'mock GOOD reviews', from guests on request to cover bad ones published;  beware of Press-Piracy.  Instead of fixing internal problems, they instead, rush to cover them up and pull 'bad' Reviews from public scrutiny.  Bad business, & makes me think twice about patronizing a place who does this!  They keep inferior staff around and ironically, have let some longtime good people go - I think it is time for some serious re-organization in Mngmnt..

Our family landed at the Bay Club for our San Diego vacation after a blind bid on Hotwire. Going this route is always risky but in this case it paid off greatly! We really enjoyed the Bay Club; it was worth much more than the $100/night we paid total (including tax and parking).

Pros: Great San Diego/Point Loma location, beautiful waterfront setting, friendly and helpful but not intrusive staff, nicely sized and equipped room with large windows and a balcony, excellent breakfast. Yes, real breakfast with eggs from a local farm, freshly cut fruit, and more. This is a great advantage of staying somewhere that has a restaurant on site. No microwaved egg patties here! A Denver scramble served one day was incredibly delicious. We could have paid $10 each for this breakfast elsewhere but it was included in our rate. Wonderful.

Cons: Pigeon poop and dirty furniture made it difficult to enjoy our otherwise lovely balcony over the marina. Parking above and in the garage can be crowded and spaces are small; I recommend finding a spot in the corner of the garage for easiest access. Beds are not great; pillows are cheap and my husband had a bad back after a week sleeping in the hotel bed.

I was worried based on reviews that our 2 Queen room would be tiny and cramped, especially with two teens. But it was just fine -- in fact, I'd say slightly larger than the norm for a 2Q, and it had everything we needed. The decor here is indeed dated, but it's not "old and dirty" dated, rather just a few decades behind in decor. In a way, it's charming in its old school feel -- and it seemed well maintained. If they updated the decor, the price would go way up, so in my opinion, keep it the way it is now! If you don't need marble countertops and a primo bed to be happy, I highly recommend the Bay Club. I would stay here again without hesitation.

I had to stay one night in San Diego and stayed here once before.  The hotel itself is nice enough as far as accommodations and location convenience.  The website states that they have a complimentary breakfast buffet and free shuttle service to the airport.  Well....guess that has changed since my last stay.  When I awoke I went to have breakfast and was informed it is now only off the menu breakfast which I had to pay for.  Then when I went to leave, on the supposed free shuttle, I was asked for $10.00.  When I asked why the charge I was told that is the fee.  It is only a 5.00 fare for a cab!  I was in a hurry to the airport so when I returned home I  called to speak with a manager.  I told her of my charges and she said that is the way it is now.  I told her the website then is incorrect and misleading.  She apologized for my confusion.  I had NO confusion. I read a website that stated free breakfast and shuttle to the airport.  I will not be returning as I feel this is a bait and switch. There was no offer of a refund whatsoever.

We really liked this place.  Yes, the decor is dated.  We knew this going in because of the reviews.  However, the TV has been upgraded, the bed was comfortable, and the room was very clean.  We liked the little balcony (though we covered the chairs with towels) and the fact we could open our windows to let in the fresh ocean air.  While we did not have time to use the pool, it looked nice.  We also liked the hot buffet breakfast that was included in the price.

The pluses definitely outweigh any negatives here, and I'm sure we will be returning.  The price made it an excellent value overall.

Those of us who live in the same Community as the Bay Club Hotel, look at this property as our local "Private Club" without the monthly dues. Yes. It is one of the very few properties in San Diego, that encourages families to come and dine, poolside, as well as swim and enjoy their pool and Jacuzzi after you dine!

How many of you have children who would love to be able to go for a swim, once their meal is finished, instead of having to sit at the table and listen to the boring conversation of the adults?

Our Bay Club poolside dining is the ticket to all being happy! While the adults are enjoying their desserts & Pina Colada's , the children are 6 feet away from us, swimming and having a wonderful time, never out of our sight.

You will pleasantly discover the new lunch menu is very reasonable and designed for the family crowd (the Bleu Cheese Burgers and Sweet Potato Fries are great!).
It is quite affordable. The new dinner menu is pricier than lunch, but still very affordable for the entrees it offers, and very good.

The inside dining-room, as well as lounge area, has both ambiance, and a fabulous view. One can sit up in the lounge by the fireplace, while enjoying a winter toddy, or enjoy dinner in the dining-room overlooking the Marina and Point Loma.

This Nonna and her Grandbabies, will catch you all at the next Sunday brunch, poolside. Ciao!

I stayed here for two nights while visiting and exploring Point Loma, Mission bay, and Shelter Island in San-diego: I'm not sure if I would totally recommend staying at this hotel. I would suggest the Humprey's hotel right next door for the same price.

The carpet was very old and the room had a bad smell: But it had great views of the Bay: But then again you can get the views from Humprey's as well: I personally prefer to travel in style and I'm a bit of a perfectionist especially when it comes to where I'm staying: For me traveling is all about the experience. Therefore I give this hotel a two star for the views otherwise I would give a one star.

Some amenities  include a flat screen TV in the room. Cable. free wifi. complimentary breakfast ( even though I wouldn't recommend it either unless you just want grab some coffee). free parking.  great under view parking of the bay, mini fridge ( which I thought was cool). telephone. coffe-maker. I think this Hotel  needs some HotelImpossible make-over. They have a great location but not so nice rooms.

Other Amenities include. Small Jacuzzi, Swimming Pool, Great Views: good for joggers or runners on front bay-view:

    Goodluck on your search:

Great hotel for the price. Stayed 4 nights at $150.00 per night for 2nd floor marina view.

The breakfast was good, they served hot and cold choices. The happy hour is also nice.

    Parking is $5 per night

    I would stay again.

    Would definitely stay here again!

My favorite parts of this hotel are the free breakfast buffet (everyday), parking is only $5, room is spacious, beautiful views from either side, and great location!!

Breakfast buffet was great! They had huevos rancheros, scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, salsa, bagels, muffins, and toast which were all splendid. Of course everything tastes better when it's free but still pretty delicious. The room was nice, nothing too fancy but nothing horrible that was inconvenient or anything. Our room had a balcony that faced the city and it was so peaceful.

The staff was very friendly and helpful too!

A great San Diego hotel and bar gem!!  We had some family in from out of town and recommended this place to they.  They really enjoyed their stay!  The place is a little old, but very clean.  It is also small and not a chain...which is a HUGE +++

The bar and happy hour ROCK big time, the bartender...I think his name was Brian, was so great!  He made the best drinks, had the best personality and took many extra steps to make us happy.....can I say hand stuffing some blu cheese olives for a martini?!?!  Wow, that is service.

Everyone here is very friendly, the location is wonderful and the service top notch.  The only thing it is a little old, could use a remodel, but then the prices might go up, which would be OK if they keep up their supper level of service charm!!!

I would like to share my recent experience staying at your hotel that I believe you would be interested in.

I would like to preface that all my background is in hospitality, hotels, catering, sales, etc...so with that being said maybe I just notice more than others.

We attempted to check in early and was told the room was not ready yet which is perfectly acceptable. The front desk agent asked to take my cell phone number down and stated they would call us once the room was ready. Needless to say, they never called us. We returned at 4:30pm and was promptly handed our room key which was weird since they never attempted to call us to inform us of our room being available. The room definitely seemed to have had a face lift and there were some modern appointments made to keep up with the Island's trending upgrades.

After getting ready for our 9:30pm dinner reservations we came down to the bar to kill some time before our seating time was ready. We approached the bar where there was a bartender in a red dress (do not remember her name) who blatantly ignored us. We said " Hello..." and was ignored. We then said "Happy New Year" and was ignored so we decided to go over to Humphrey's to get a drink since it appeared we were intentionally being ignored. Even after the attempts to get her attention she served people who sat after us. I hate to say it, but I believe we were being discriminated against as we were the youngest people there by 25+ years.  After returning from Humphrey's we attempted once again to sit at your bar with the unfriendly bartender. This time she came up and said " If you are planning on staying for the party it's a $20 cover charge. " Not a hello, how are you? How can I help you, etc.... I replied with my husband, Yes, we have purchased the $300 package for dinner, room, breakfast etc... and asked if there was an additional cover charge as well? She replied oh, no, and her tune suddenly changed and she offered us to eat our NYE meal with her at the bar. I believe as soon as she knew she could get an automatic gratuity out of us, she WANTED us to stay with her, we respectfully declined and asked to be sat at our table.

When seated we got a nice table in the corner with a view. I watched as all the servers were greeting all the tables and working through their sections. Approximately 20 minutes passed and I asked the busser if we had a server. He said he would go get someone. Once our server arrived she was very nice, accommodating, and informative. The filet was served a perfect medium rare.

After dinner we went into the bar area for the "Party." I would not have advertised this as a party. There was maybe 5 people in there with the lights on full blast not exactly creating any ambience. We decided to go over to Humphrey's and ring in the New Year over there.

All in all I would frankly like to address that I like to feel good about spending my money and leaving yesterday morning left me with nothing but a bad taste in my mouth. $335.00. To be honest that's more than I have ever spent on a NYE event and we were thoroughly disappointed.

I have nothing bad to say about Bay Club Hotel and Marina. My fiance' and I visited San Diego for our vacation this year in April and the Bay Club Hotel and Marina was a great choice to pick amongst the dozens of hotels that we could've stayed in. Our room had a little patio area attached where we could sit and enjoy the view of the marina. All of the shuttle drivers are great. Please forgive me for not remembering names, but they all made us feel so comfortable while we bothered them to chauffer us around town, especially Brian (I think that's his name) who is just a sweetheart and the lady with the long hair who doesn't like country music. She drove us back to the airport when we left to go home and I just wanted to cry. The free buffet breakfast was very tasty. Everyday there was a different spread and the waitress and servers are very friendly, as well. It was very welcoming to be greeted every morning with a smile. The hotel is currently undergoing a facelift and from what we saw while we were there, it going to look great.

Then, there's Miss Jody. She is the core of the hotel. SHE IS AWESOME!!! No matter how many times we bothered her with questions, she was always willing to help us. We wanted to pack her up and take her home with us. When we left, it felt like we were leaving from visiting family. This was our first visit to San Diego and because of the staff at Bay Club we will definitely be coming back.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for your hospitality. You should be a consultant to other hotels and teach customer service skills.....YOU ROCK!!!

Sending our love Curtis and Sharlena

One of the worst experiences Ive ever had at a hotel. Great location, amazing views, outdated and dreary looking rooms.  The restaurant is good and served decent food yet I could not overlook the worn out  carpet and stains in my room. Also there was a huge concert next door and they blocked off the hotel parking lot to guests.   I parked my car and was yelled at by the wannabe rent a cop who followed me into the hotel, attempted to confirm that I was a guest and made a huge scene in the lobby.   The guy was in my face and accused me if not be a guest in this crappy hell hole of a hotel.  The manager had to escort him to the back. Total lack of customer service or respect for guests here.  This place needs a serious facelift. Avoid it like Ebola.

This was my 2nd stay here. My husband and I enjoyed it so much the first time that when my mom and I wanted to get out of town, I thought she would like this place. She did.

Thanks Patti for giving us a great room that was quiet and with a view of the harbor. Again the staff couldn't be nicer or more accommodating. We arrived early and Patti had a room available right away.

The rooms were updated from the last time I was there and it still had that new room smell. The beds were very comfortable and since my mom gets cold very easily, it was nice to find extra blankets available in the room. The view of the docked boats in the harbor and the mountains just above was very peaceful. Exactly what we needed in our over night get away.

After a spending the day at the zoo, mom and I decided to do room service for dinner. The prices were reasonable and it arrived quickly, still hot and plenty to eat. We really could have shared a meal. I had the grill tuna sandwich (which was very thick and not over cooked) with a salad. Mom had their Fish and Chips. They were hot and crispy. She liked it very much, although I thought they had a little too much salt. The free breakfast was a full breakfast. I liked that they use free range chicken eggs which were hot, light and fluffy. I tried the potatoes but they were cold, so I thought I would try the oatmeal instead. It was a little too runny for my taste, but I like it really thick.

Overall, The stay was a very good value, but above all, I think it is the great staff that makes you come back again.

This review is STRICTLY for the Bay Club at Comic  Con. We were worried about the 35 minute shuttle into town, but it was TOTALLY worth it. Parking was $5 (not $45 like downtown!) and the room with two queen beds was totally reasonable AND breakfast was included.  That's pretty awesome for Comic Con.  They also upgraded us to a view of the harbor which was fun to look at after a long day at the Con.  And they sell beers at the front desk for $3!

That said, what is with the creepy muppety man sitting at the piano? He scares me!!  Welcome your guests another way please. :)  And get rid of the flies in the lobby!

Awesome awesome view. probably the best view in shelter island..  i'd say better than humphreys. yes the interior is a bit dated, but it adds a very homely feeling to it.  It was the most homely hotel i've ever stayed in.  Staff was friendly and gave us a great deal on a last minute room. they charge for parking but it was only $5 and not too crowded.

The pool and jacuzzi left a bit to be desired but the view is so great.   I would recommend it, but only if the best western or humphreys halfmoon next to it are booked.

We are recommended this place by a worker at a near by hotel. We sat down and waited, then had to ask for a menu from a passing waitress. It took quite awhile for the waitress to show up and take our drink orders. The food and appetizers came out at the same time. The crab cakes were not very good and the cod in the surf and turf was over cooked. While eating a dog came in and threw up on one of our groups feet.  The dog kept coming in and going up to other tables.  A waitress asked whose dog it was we told her it was a guys at the bar and all she said was oh really and walked away.  We will never come back to this place again.

Stayed 2 nights to see a concert at Humphrey's next door in July. Spacious room with queen beds. Bathroom looked like it was recently updated. Parking was easy in front of hotel. Had breakfast both days. It was just o.k. with scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes and breads and pastries. Staff was friendly although when I asked about the 20% discount for dining room, they said that was a seasonal promotion and no longer available. I'm sure I saw it when I booked the room, but whatever. First night it was very noisy since we were right above the bar. Also, a noise possibly from an a/c from room next door. Then they were vacuuming at 5:30 AM!! The next day we went to Old Town and I bought ear plugs. Slept great the next night! We were able to listen to a concert from our room which was nice. Ate at their restaurant as well. Good food especially with happy hour prices.
Room Tip: Upstairs marina view rooms have a balcony. Room 262 is spacious. There are elevators.

This review is only for the Quarterdeck Bar and Dining Room at the hotel, we did not take a room here. Unfortunately the whole experience was very disappointing.

The location should be nice, but our table was surrounded by concrete, with harsh evening lighting. We were right next to the (small) swimming pool, which sounds nice, but with a restaurant next to the bay, we were hoping for bay views, not pool views.

We started with Crispy Calamari and Coconut Shrimp. The calamari was a meager portion of 4 pieces, and was pretty tough. The aioli sauce was mediocre. The coconut shrimp had good flavor, but it was very dry and again only 4 pieces. The only thing that saved it was the dipping sauces, which were quite tasty. Not good choices for us.

For the main course, I had the lamb osso bucco which was so undercooked that it was impossible to eat it. We had to box it and take it home - after another 90 mins of low temp cooking the next day, it was much better. But I don't normally order a dish expecting that I have to take it home to make it edible! The mashed potatoes with it were tasty, but still the overall dish was very disappointing. My husband had the Cajun Shrimp Pasta, which was very tasty and nicely presented. So one out of four dishes was pretty good. The wine list was very limited, and I really didn't enjoy the wines we tasted.

Overall, I can't recommend this restaurant. We tried it as we had a coupon to use. If you are staying at this hotel, I suggest you do yourself a favor and walk down the street to the Blue Wave Bar and Grill - we have had much better food (and atmosphere) there.

This review is more for the Marina, although the hotel lobby looks nice. I hear it's great compared to how it looked before renovations but I have no reference point. The slips where the boats are parked are super nice though. All brand new with new blue sublime lighting. My buddy is lucky enough to have a prime spot with some tables next to it and you better believe we enjoy it immensely. It's pretty sweet!

Great location. In dire need of a facelift though. The interior is outdated and our room smelled like urine. Friendly staff.

I just visited again and the place has undergone a remodel. The changes look great though it looks like they skimped on the budget in some places. Much better eye appeal and more modern. The new lights at the front desk are a bit distracting. I don't think they should hang as low as they do. The yellow walks in the lobby and upper lobby area seem an odd color choice. Our room now has flooring as opposed to carpet which is a great upgrade, especially near the water. Overall, very well done. I can't wait to see the new bar area when it's finished.

Bay Club Hotel is definitely near the Marina.  Not much is around here unless you have a boat, or you plan to not go anywhere, or you like the idea of driving pretty far into San Diego's attractions.

When you are trying to find the hotel, don't drive too fast or you'll miss the parking lot.  Parking lot is downstairs.  Be very careful when you go down the ramp, as it's pretty easy for any cars going in your direction to hit you on during the curve downwards.

We parked the car, lots of pigeon poop in the area, then went upstairs to go to the lobby to check-in.  Not too difficult.  Gave us a room to overlook the marina.  I did not like how the rooms have it set where there's basically a big pot with MAYBE a plant in the pot.  It would not be difficult for someone to look around and into your room, or for someone to actually jump the pot and get into your room to steal something.  The sliding door to get into the room was also VERY noisy and would not shut properly unless we literally put all of our body weight to slam the door.

The hotel in general is fairly old.  Not too many renovations recently.  Our entire room felt, smelled, and appeared a bit old-fashioned.  Not necessarily bad, but I do worry simply because hundreds or thousands of people would've stayed at my particular room and I don't know what each and every one did.  Bed was a bit uncomfortable, but we were able to sleep through most of it eventually.  I definitely felt as if I needed to get a UV-sanitizer to scan the entire room, though.

Our room rental also included free Wifi and complimentary breakfast.  Breakfast changed every day, and it was decent. Buffet style, but people do come by to serve you coffee or juices.  They do provide a receipt to ask if you can tip them.  Food was very selective, and there may be a chance that if you have food allergies or dietary restrictions that you wouldn't be able to eat anything.  Fruit, a few pastries, and oatmeal was the main staples for every breakfast we had.

Staff was always polite.  The all-night staff always looked so exhausted, which made me feel bad.  Still, they were always very courteous and helped when they could.

The site was also undergoing repairs for their hot tub, so not hot tub.  They did have an agreement with another hotel if we wanted to get into the hot tub, though.

Overall, the staff did their best to accommodate whatever we needed.  The place is a bit more aged than others, and that may have an effect on how clean they may or may not be.

However, I would not come back here.  By early Saturday morning (we checked in on Friday), the pigeons were coohooing.  If I had my .22, I would have had some fun and some decent sleep.  They would NOT shut up, they were all over the place, and when one was gone, another came to replace it.  Seriously, it was the perfect shooting gallery....other than it being in California with stupid gun laws.  And pigeons seems to be great carriers of disease, so we basically didn't venture out into the balcony to look at the view of the marina.  Didn't even want to sit outside, or try to leave the door open in fear of snoopy neighbors or pigeons trying to eat something shiny in our room.

This hotel is a cheaper option if you want to be out of the traffic areas of the greater San Diego area, but we may choose a hotel that is more in the center of San Diego next time.

For being a water front hotel, I thought this place would be a tad nicer for the price we had to pay for the night. So we got here around 2pm and the place looks nice, kind of has a musty old feel to it. Furniture and things were slowly being updated so half looked new and the other half looked ancient.
First we tried the bar out and the bartender looked tired, annoyed, and was not friendly. " did you guys want anything?" Uhm how about a welcome. And hello! My friend tried to break the ice by asking about suggested drinks and he just says " No we don't do that." Okkkaaaayyy.......Later on he did make her a special shot for her birthday. That was nice but I felt like it was inappropriate that he swigged the rest of it. I guess if that's how you make work go faster.....sure.
So we get our luggage and head up to the room. We were quite shocked by the look of the room. It was small and the bathroom was TINY!!!! The pictures on websites made the place look amazing. It was not. My friend was pissed and she decided to call the front so we can switch out of the hotel. To no avail we were unable to do so, so we got saddled with a motel that resembles a better looking Motel 6 at best for the price of the suite we had at the Marriott the night before. Baffling isn't it? We also had a tiny balcony that overlooked the parking lot and the water, except they built safety rails that go high above your eye level when your sitting. So you basically have a view of the rail. Lame.
Overall, this place was like a typical motel, nothing amazing. Outdated furniture with minor renovations to look better. Service was average, and the price may be comparable because it w as by the water. May have to check out some places nearby for better rooms and pricing next time.

My husband & I stayed here for a night & had dinner in their restaurant. Their service was excellent & their food was even better. Oh, & the beds are soooo comfy, very nice sheets & the room was one of their least expensive rooms, but it was beautiful & tastefully decorated nonetheless; especially for the good price we got. If we go on another mini "stay-cation" here in San Diego, this place would be my 1st choice. I definitely recommend this hotel.

I booked this hotel for a weekend trip with the family and had a wonderful experience.  The staff was AWESOME---they were very accommodating and went out of their way to make us comfortable and to fulfill our requests. The hotel is really cute and has a beach chic vibe---really liked the decor.  Our room was facing the Marina and the view was great!  Watching the sunset from our balcony while listening to jazz being played across the Marina was a nice treat.  The kids loved the pool and we all enjoyed walking (just across the street) along the water and taking in the beautiful scenery. The food is also really good and dining with a view of the Marina was the icing on the cake.  The bathrooms were a little bit small, but the overall experience was so wonderful that I am still giving the hotel a 5.  Will definitely be back!

Hotel: It's a nice hotel on Shelter Island. What I love most about it is the wonderful hot breakfast! It offers a great variety of food and drinks. After a day of fun at the zoo or walking around town, you can jump in the pool and/or relax in the hot tub. We wished the jets in the hot tub would turn on though. It could get a little hard to find parking at night, but perhaps it was just exceptionally busy during our days of visit. I like how the parking underneath has a nice view of the marina too.

Rooms: We got a Bay View room, which is on the front side of the hotel facing the road. It's not bad since you can see the San Diego Bay. The Marina View rooms are right next to the marina, so you can see yachts and sailboats up close. The room is comfortable and it's good to have free wifi.

Location: There's isn't much around the hotel itself, but the drive to downtown San Diego is pretty short, so all is good.

AWESOME! Do not be fooled by any negatives about this wonderful hotel.  My family stayed 5 days (wife and two boys 10 and 7). The staff was friendly from check in til check out. The room was spacious, the
A/C rocked and the bed was oh so comfortable.  My boys never got the "what are kids doing here" stares and were able to just be kids. The free breakfast was very god every morning, eggs, sausage, corn beef hash, potatoes, toast, ect. Close drive to everything, Seaport Village, Old Town, Belmont Park, Padres games, and awesome Resturants.  We normally stay at the Hilton or Sheraton on Harbor Island, not anymore!  Parking only 5.00 a day and a staff that actually cares about my stay will keep me coming back.  Oh yea, the soap and shampoo (Paya) was amazing!

Free breakfast was delicious, but had a hard time getting a waitress to get us some coffee.
Nice place to stay if you want to stay out of the downtown area.
We really enjoyed our stay and we would stay here again without a doubt.
    Thanks for a great stay

This hotel was reasonably priced compared to its competitors next door.  We booked it on a Hotel Tonight deal (use code bbaumgartner2 in the app to get $25 off your first booking), so that was great.

The hotel offered pretty cheap parking ($5/night) and nice rooms with great views.  The room was very large.  It had a nice balcony that, in our case, faced downtown San Diego and Coronado, which was lovely.  The staff was very friendly.  The included breakfast was well done.

The pool is very small.  The hot tub sort of is too, to a lesser extent.

The air conditioner was noisy and somewhat inefficient.

Overall a pleasant stay and a nice hotel.

My husband and I stayed for one night to attend a concert next door and we couldn't have been happier. Everything really was perfect. The front desk was helpful and friendly and the bartender was great. We enjoyed both dinner and breakfast the next morning, as well as drinks at the bar after the concert. The only concerns were wifi was really slow and they needed more help during happy hour. They only had one waitress, and though she was friendly, she was clearly overwhelmed. We're already looking forward to staying again when there's a concert we want to see next door.

I have mixed feelings about my stay at the Bay Club Hotel and Marina.  The staff were extremely nice -- check in was fast, and painless.  They charge you $10 to self-park in their lot, which seems to be standard practice for too many hotels today.  They do have free wi-fi though.

The rooms were recently redone, and mine looked very nice.  The bed was comfortable, the air conditioner worked well, and they give you a nice mini-fridge.  The room experience, however, was brought down by a few things.  For one, the chair for the desk in the room was extremely uncomfortable.  The television also got really terrible reception.  Some channels looked decent, but others were very fuzzy.  The last negative about the room was my bathroom.  The shower looked ancient, like the shower from my old apartment in NY.  Why update the rooms and then leave the 1980's shower/tub?

I used the fitness room, which had a decent assortment of machines, and a nice view of the marina, but there was a water leak in one corner, and water was dripping onto the exercise bike tucked back there.  A little disconcerting.

Room service was excellent, affordable, and fast.  I had a nice breakfast in my room one morning.

All in all, for the money, the Bay Club Hotel was a decent property, but I wish they'd fix the little issues plaguing the place.

Booked this through HotelTonight App for a family of 4, in August 2014.  We didn't get in until late on a Friday night.  Fortunately, I called ahead to check if they had food (they did not because kitchen closes early), so we had to stop and get food prior to checking in.

Background, my husband was active duty Navy for 13 years and we were staying here while he was serving reserve duty.  Needless to say, we have stayed at all levels of hotels near or on Navy bases.  Although, this was not a "Navy" hotel, it looked like a Navy BOQ.  BOQ's are stripped down rooms, but they are "FREE," so there really is no need to complain.

However, I paid for this hotel and it was WAY overpriced.  Everything in the room looked like it was from the 80's.  Plus, we had construction, outside the patio.

    The continental breakfast was mediocre.

Its too bad, because its a nice area to walk/run.

Even 1 star is too much for what they had done to me, my sister, and her friend. I was lied to by the staff. I booked a room with 2 queen beds for 3 people but when I got there they said they only have one queen bed available they told me to take it or leave it. I was so mad how could they lie that way when at time time of booking they said they have the room I needed and was reserved. After 9 hours early of driving there the last thing we wanted to do was go back in to the city and look for another hotel. They offered a roll in bed but we had to pay that for extra. They didn't even apologize the front desk lady was so rude. I will NEVER go back here again for the dishonest way they handled my situation.

Other than that we had a nice time in the city and the bartenders in the hotel bar were nice.

Worth the price!  Not fancy, but clean and I believe newly remodeled.  Staff was very friendly and attentive.  Plenty of parking ($10/day, reasonable).  Beautiful views of the bay and marina.  I had a bay view with a king size bed on the 2nd floor, included a private balcony with seating area.  Great club next door with live music!

    BAD: Restaurant..
The only thing that keeps me from giving them a 5 star rating is the restaurant.  6 of us, 4 ate the breakfast buffet, 2 of us including myself ordered off the menu.  The biscuits and gravy I ordered were almost unrecognizable.  Microwaved so long that the gravy looked like a dark melted mass, and the biscuits were hard as bricks.  The buffet was equally unappetizing!

Overall I really like this hotel and would recommend everything except the restaurant.
