Upon staying at the hotel we had placed phone calls to the front office to see if they had offered amenities such as an iron and a refrigerator. The person on the end of the phone was extremely rude every time. Upon arrival to the hotel, the person in the front office suggested we upgrade into a bigger room that had been newly remolded and less noisy. However this room was placed directly in front of the office and was super noisy all night long from the drunken people walking by on the street. During our two night stay, we had a few visitors (who did not stay the night) that came to hang out and go to the beach with us. When checking out the person in the front office made my fiance sit down while he scolded him for having visitors. He said that he had been watching us the whole time and counting our guests that entered the room. He then ended up charging us $10 for every person he counted having gone in our room. We told him numerous times that they did not sleep there, but the man continued to treat us with disrespect and inappropriate rudeness. The stay was absolutely not worth it! the employees are horrible to the guests and spy on their every move! do not stay here!!

If I could give this place no stars, I would!

Beach Haven, my foot, more like Beach Hell. This Spring Break germ infested hotel is awful! For a little over a hundred bucks, you can get a musty, moldy room  that  looks like a cleaned up scene from a horror film.

Nor my friend or I could sleep that night as we obsessed over how many bug bites we would have in the morning. The jacuzzi and pool looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months.

The shower in our room was so gross, it made you want to take another shower - somewhere else. We checked out early in the morning and found solace at the Double Tree Hotel  located at Hotel Circle. After staying at  the Beach Haven Inn, the Double Tree Hotel felt like the Four Seasons!

Good location, friendly staff. PB lovers paradise. Get a room in the back however the closer to the street the more noise you'll have to endure. recent remodel was cheap at best. Pretty good bag for your buck given the location, although not for you hotel snobs

HORRIBLE service!!! Don't ever go there! They are incredibly rude  I tried to book the room over the phone and Tim was extremely unaccommodating  and his customer service skills need to be refined.  All i was trying to do was book a room over the phone for the next day and he made it impossible and told me I had to come down and pay him before 9 p/m and i hadn't even checked in yet.  This place is a joke...

I stayed here with a friend and we both really enjoyed our stay the room was clean and the front desk was really nice. I also like that it was walking distance to the beach, lots of shops, bars, and restaurants. My only complaint was that there was no AC and when we stayed it was super hot! I would stay again during the spring, winter or fall seasons. If they got AC I would also stay again during the summer season.

I saw the reviews and the pictures of this place before I arrived; so was pleasantly surprised with the motel.  I don't know how people expect a motel with 1 star on every travel site to be something exquisite.  It looked worse online than my room ended up being.
Yes, it was pricey for how basic the room was.  However, it's the cheapest place to stay on the beach by far.  If you want to be able to walk to any place in Pacific Beach and pay less than $200 a night, this may be your only choice.
The room was clean, the pool was clean, there was hot water and I didn't drive my car once after I arrived.  The walls are pretty thin.   No bed bugs.  Our room was just as big as any other basic room I've stayed in.  I wouldn't recommend this place to a family or vacationers planning to be in their room more than to sleep.
If you want to stay in a hotel, reserve a room at a hotel.  If you plan to be out enjoying Pacific Beach all day and only need a bed and shower and want to save a bunch of cash, then you will appreciate this motel.

Although they had construction at the time of our visit the staff was very apologetic and assisted us in finding the most quiet room. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen and plates etc. was clean and organized. My only complaint would be that the entire toilet was loose from the wall. It also has a pool and jacuzzi which was nice even though it borders noisy Mission Blvd. Be sure to get a room off of the street. The place was well kept; I was surprised by its 2.5 star rating. I should think it deserves more.

I'd say that this place is a beach bum's kind of accommodation. Proximity to the beach is Beach Haven's only saving grace. If you're not living on the beach while staying here (or out and about a lot) this place would be unbearable for anyone who's not a surfer, hippie, stoner, or bra (not bro)--not that they're mutually exclusive.

The suite we stayed in was nothing like the picture's we saw on Expedia. The bedroom just barely fit the bed. My little ass could barely squeeze past it without rubbing against the walls...literally. Bed linens were scratchy and did not smell good either. Kitchen got the job done, certainly hasn't been updated since the '80s (along with the rest of the inn). Mini fridge. Scratchy couch. Flat screen tv. Not sure which was worse: the bathroom or the kitchen?

Think of Beach Haven as an upgrade for camping on the beach. For the location and price, it's worth considering, unless you're a princess--RUN! But I'm getting too old to stay at places like this, seeing as I'm not a stoner beach bum, since I left Santa Cruz all those years ago...

Side note: None of our windows had any locks on them, but it's not like any of the cruiser-riding stoners really freaked me out. Haha...

The location is really great and the prices weren't bad, but it was SUCH a hassle to check in and out of this hotel. The lady who checked us in was very nice but over complicated our simple 2-room arrangements. The guy who checked us out was extremely rude and talked down to us like we were idiots. I've never encountered anything like their check-in and out process here.. It really shouldn't be that complicated people. Rooms were clean and comfy.

I went to San Diego for work and fun, and this place was well-suited for both. I got the optional full kitchen and felt totally at home there. The motel is clean and comfortable, and the bed and the bathroom in my room were in great shape. It might not be for you if you want total quiet, but if you're looking for cheap, comfortable, fun, independently-owned accommodations, and you like the idea of being able to cook a meal, you should consider this place.

Oh, and the beach (with surf!) is RIGHT THERE. I would almost have given it four stars just because it's a tiny bit funky, but the folks at the desk were super nice so I'm going for five. I hope I get the chance to stay there again.

I loved this little joint and plan on coming back again! We had a spacy room with two queen beds!  No bed bugs and they were pillow top. The location was great! We got a good deal on the room. We didn't use the pool or hot tub, but they were clean! The bathroom was small but it did it's job. Loved the location!! I could walk to the beach and other places! If ur not a hotel snob, this us the place for u!

We arrived at the Haven 9:15pm, after a 24h trip, having no clue the lobby closes at 9pm.
There was a note at the door that the manager would be in room 103, so we knocked on the door.  At first this guy looked surprised to see us, telling us he just closed up.
He'd made us an envelope with our room key and other instructions and told us to check in in the morning.  We were also told to park our car on site; parking spaces our not too big though.

When we came in to our room, it was a huge disappointment.  I booked the (IKEA) remodeled family suite, the most expensive one and I was wondering if there has been a mistake.  The room didn't look recently remodeled at all, but it was clean, so I didn't complain.  We were both too tired and went straight to bed, in the morning we didn't want to move all our stuff.  I must say, the bathroom was kind of nice with the walk in shower.  It would have been even nicer if the plumbing worked the way it should be.

In the morning we went to check in finally and we encountered an other manager, a very unfriendly one this time.  There was a pay 2 stay 3 night special online, and when I booked my 6 nights, it only got me 1 night off.  Therefore I've made 2 reservations, to get my 2 nights off, as I thought it should be.  This manager was complaining that it wasn't right the system allowed this!  I payed nearly $800 for 6 minus 2 nights (he gave us this deal anyway) for this motel.  I think including this online deal, it's more then slightly overrated.

The pros on this motel though are the reasons why we stayed here:

+ free wifi
+ free onsite parking
+ location location location

Would we stay here again?  Probably not, it depends on the rates of the surrounding hotels I guess...

Great location.... half a block from the beach.

The room was smaller than I expected, but that was ok... wasn't spending much time in there anyway. Storage for clothes was an issue. There was one dresser in the kitchen area, a closet and nightstand. We got creative :)

We would go out for the day and return at 3:30 - 4 to get cleaned up for dinner and find that the room hadn't been cleaned yet.... this happened everyday. One day it wasn't cleaned at all!

The bathroom was ok except for the mold on the corner of the shower... we just steered clear of that.
We were on the first floor and every step the people upstairs took was like a loud thump! Really hard to fall asleep without earplugs.

Overall, I will most likely not stay here again. Just had a weird vibe.

What a gem! I stayed here a few nights ago with friends and we were not disappointed. The staff was great; we checked in with Bob who was very pleasant! Although he was just about to come off of his shift (we arrived later than planned) he still took his time with us, and in good spirits too! Because of the price we payed for our room we did not expect much. To our surprise the room was newly renovated and very clean. A/C worked great! The only downside to the room was its size. And the bathroom has the only mirror so with four of us girls getting ready it was a little bit of a hassle. Only a minor complaint! We hardly spent any time in the room because it was a short walk to the beach and all of the best restaurants! The location is incredible, especially for the price we paid. We did not get a chance to use the pool or jacuzzi, but other guests seemed happy. There is also a grill that guests can use. There are only a few parking spots, but we didn't need to use the car for the whole trip because everything was within walking distance. And a huge plus that we didn't have to pay for beach parking!! Overall a great experience at this place, we will definitely be back!

Recently stayed here at the Beach Haven Inn for a mini vacation..

Positives: Very close to the beach, so I really couldn't complain. The price was great for the weekday. Many restaurants and night spots within walking distance. Hot tub and pool (which were always empty and clean).

Negatives: It was quite noisy, especially around 6am with the other guests moving around upstairs. The bedroom was rather small, with barely enough closet space. Having a kitchen was great for the mornings we just wanted to relax and make breakfast, but the utensils and pans were awful. The maid service was sub-par.. some days they would show up and some days they wouldn't.

My boyfriend and I are pretty relaxed, so we really didn't sweat all of the small stuff. They didn't add any additional charges and the staff was very helpful and friendly.

We stayed for two nights and I can't complain. The AC didn't work too well but for one we went at the end of May/beginning of June so it wasn't that hot and we didn't spend that much time indoors. The price was reasonable for the location, our room was quiet (away from the street on the top floor). The pool and jacuzzi were always clean, the people in the reception room were very friendly and helpful and the maids will enter your room if you put the service request sign out to give you your privacy. We got our own off street parking space which was nice and having a kitchen was a great feature too. I would stay here again.

I loathe this place.

From the moment we checked in we felt unwelcome. We had a group of 4 in a 2 queen bed room and there was an extra fee if we wanted more than 2 people in the room! We had friends who were staying close by help us bring our bags and coolers to the room and the office called us to say that we can't have people hang out in our room who are not sleeping there (so no more than 4 people at all times can't be in the room)!
When we came back to our room one night and were getting ready for bed, we opened all the windows and could hear everything down the street. Surprisingly, we got a very angry security guard at our door saying we had a noise complaint and would be kicked out if we got another one! We were barely loud, just normal chatting.
The room was awful with peeling carpet, outlets that didn't work and full of bugs. When I opened the door under the sink there were 2 one-inch long screws hanging out of the door and sliced my leg! The office was kind enough to take $50 off our bill for the incident (which hardly covered the extra 2 people fee!)
We go to this area often and are use to the dinky beach hotels being expensive yet not luxurious but this place was just awful.

The room's nice, the one with the 2 queen beds.  The interior was mostly blue with white borders.  The bathroom seemed like hostel style or the like.  No tub, just a shower curtain with a drain.  It was a cute bathroom.  The a/c and cable worked fine.  The location is right next to the beach.  If you have more than one car, the rest have to park on the street.  Good luck finding parking.  Lastly, the internet connection wasn't that great.

Don't know why so many people had problems with the Beach Haven Inn. I stayed for 4 weeks, never had a problem.  Room was cleaned every day, every 4th day sheets changed, floors cleaned.  I don't do that at home.
Staff friendly, manager was great. Very comfortable beds and plenty of pillows.  Hot tub and pool always clean. And best of all, location and price.  Walked everywhere, beach 1/2 block away with a wonderful boardwalk, where you can walk for miles. Restaurants, bars, grocery store, all good places in walking distance.  This was my 5th stay here and plan on going back next year.

My mom just rented me a room here for my birthday last month and I was surprised how accurately the reviews and pictures on their website matched up with the actual hotel since I have had issues with this when staying at other hotels using booking websites. I arrived their to be pleasantly surprised by a nice pool area with a spa and tons of lounge chairs and palm trees. The inn is right by the beach and is very cute. I got a two queen room for about $200, given the  location and the fact that it was the middle of July I felt I got a great deal. The staff was nice and the inn was very clean. In regards to the room, the beds were very comfy, the bathroom was very large with a beautiful shower, and there was AC, all very positive attributes. The one thing I wasn't thrilled about was that there was no fridge, so bring a cooler or something to store drinks or snacks (especially if you're celebrating something), but this was definitely not a big deal. I had previously let them know it was my birthday when booking the room and let them know I was 24 so I may have people coming in and out, they said it wouldn't be a problem. After we went out in PB I had about 7 friends in my room , we were just talking and having a few drinks. I get a call from someone who works at the inn scolding me (literally like I was 5) about the noise. I was a little taken a back by the attitude given to me, but it was late and I did take note after arriving their were a lot of families so I agreed to quite down and proceeded to have people leave. While this put a little damper on the stay, everything overall was amazing and I hope to stay here again. If you're coming to the area for vacation I would highly recommend it, it is close to everything in PB (food, nightlife, and shopping) and so close to the beach.

What a great find! Only one baby block to the beach, this small hotel (less than 25 rooms) is perfect if you want to see Pacific Beach on a budget.  There are parking spaces too, for one car per room, which is great for a place so close to the beach.

Their rates are very reasonable, but I recommend booking in advance (at least 2 months) because it does fill up quickly, especially the less expensive rooms. Room rates range from about $120 for a two queen standard to around $300 for a suite with kitchen. Rates vary with season though.

We stayed in a two queen standard room. The bed was pretty comfortable and the pillows were fluffy. The bathroom needed a remodel, but it was clean.

If you need an iron, hair dryer or coffee, those are provided in the hotel office.

We just returned from the Beach Haven Inn yesterday from a 5 day stay. This was was a great stay, good location, nice people. Our room was the junior suite, it had a one bedroom, living room and kitchen. Everything was clean. I had a problem with the bed the first night, it was very very hard, like sleeping on the floor. I went to the front desk and asked them if there was anything they could do about it. Turns out it was a brand new bed, but not too much later, the housekeepers came and put on a foam pad for me. I slept great the rest of the time we were there. The only complaint I would have, is that the kids at the pool were very loud, but well, they were kids. I would definitely recommend this place. One block from the beach, walking distance to everything. Parking was never an issue.

GREAT service! All desk associates have been pleasant. Alejandra was EXTREMELY nice and helpful. We were staying here 1 night and moving across the bay to another hotel for the rest of the weekend. We were interested in staying here/in this area, so she worked hard to find us a vacant room immediately and even showed it to me prior to booking. Our first time here and we love this hotel so far. Great location, nice rooms, decent prices. Easy access to the beach, walking distance to food, free parking, free wifi, renovated rooms... Highly recommend staying here.

We loved our stay here!  Brief walk to the beach; lots of great places to eat and funky bars- all within walking distance.
Our room was great!  Little kitchenette with anything you need, dining table and coffee maker- with coffee.  Small but very cozy living room area, comfy bed and nice bathroom.
The staff was friendly and very available.
We plan on returning and staying for a longer time as we enjoyed it so much.
The price is VERY reasonable for a hotel in very short walking distance from a beautiful beach.

Probably the best hotel experience of my life.

First, the location of this small hotel is amazing.  One block from the most amazing beach ever (no view, but also WAY cheaper because it has no view). Walking distance to amazing local food, shops, and bars, as well as a pharmacy, which came in VERY handy multiple times. This place has a cute pool and amazing staff, who accommodated a tricky situation for us this weekend.

I thought the rooms were fabulous and adorable.  My only complaint is that there was no full-length mirror.  Trying to get ready for a wedding without a full-length mirror is damn near impossible.   The room was very clean, the air conditioner worked great, and the bed was the second most comfortable bed I've ever slept on!

I will for sure be staying here again. Hidden gem.  Oh and lots of cabs nearby, plus Uber is super easy to use in SD and there was always a driver within 3 minutes of here, even at 3 or 4 AM on a weekday.

Oh, and I might just be saying this because I'm from St. Louis, but this place felt very safe. Walking alone at night around here didn't seem like a big deal.

Good comfy beds. Bathroom was real old with the old school shower curtain that kept wanting to hug you. That wasn't cool. But the hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
Room came with plenty of towels. Although they weren't any 4 star hotel quality. I felt more comfortable using my own.
It's a bit noisy with the pool being right there and you can hear whenever someone walks across your hall.
Best thing about this hotel was price, nice staff, and very comfy beds! Oh and it's very close that you can walk to the beach and do the strip. Also- free parking!
