We stayed here over President's Day Weekend for two nights and really enjoyed the place.  The rooms are beautifully decorated with warm textiles and colors.  The walls are hand stenciled.  The bathroom had very nice fixtures and pretty tiles.  The soaps were spa soaps, not your typical hotel-paper wrapped variety.  The bed was big and fluffy.

My  complaints are minor.  Although quite comfortable, the room was also quite small.  The room only had basic cable.  And rather than wireless internet, there was cat-5 at the desk in the room.  (I like to sit on my laptop in bed.)

Still, this was an above-average, comfortable, and very clean place.  The gardens are absolutely stunning, too

Great place to stay in San Diego very close to the Gaslight and walkable  to Little Italy.  It is a small hacienda style hotel with hanging plants and succulents everywhere on the property. They have cool rooftop area with a gazebo and lots of chairs. We had fun drinking wine up there a night. Yes, maybe too much fun at times. There is a market across the street with a decent wines and a small deli. Most rooms have a small table and chairs just outside the door (recommend the second floor).

The room includes a daily breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage, cereal, juice etc. which is a value when you consider how much you would spend going out everyday. We were there for five days so this was a perfect.

Moderately priced and the rooms were fine with tiled bathrooms. Easy walk to the trolley line. All of the staff from the front desk to housekeeping was friendly and very helpful. Parking is $10.00 per night. This is a tiny place with a small lot so you need to reserve a spot. I would definitely stay here again.

For  hotels in this price range and location in San Diego I bestow 5 stars.

Beautiful garden, not so beautiful surroundings.... busy streets and people sleeping on the sidewalk, not somewhere you would want to walk alone at night. About 4-6 blocks to Gas Lamp, I would recommend a ride back because the uphill walk could be a little exhausting after a day of walking. All in all the stay was decent, but not worth the $200/ night. I wouldn't stay again.

Late night treat: Brooklyn's  Pizza!  I called front desk and they gave me the number, they serve until 3a.m. and the pizza was AWESOME!

    Pros:
Walking distance from Gaslamp, Little Italy and Balboa Park.
    Clean room.
Pretty wide offering during continental breakfast.
    Free wifi.
    Coffee in room.
Garden with seating on roof. It was good for finishing some work.

    Cons:
massive homeless population around, so didnt feel safe walking at night.
    $10 a day parking.
Was a fairly cramped room for $150 a night.
Room 223 is right next to the ice maker and housekeeping laundry, has a bad air conditioner, and had widely fluctuating shower water pressure.  Needless to say the room was very noisy, and should be avoided.

    Possibly con:
I was walked in on twice in three days by housekeeping, and though I was dressed and they apologized profusely, I must say that has never happened to me before and for some this might be unacceptable.

I personally enjoyed my two night stay here. First, let me begin with Carlos. That man had everything we forgot to bring on our trip-razor, toothpaste, etc. We were giving room 226 but when my significant other & I didn't like the view ( a lovely parking lot), we asked Carlos if he could changed us to another room. And he did! He gave us room 216 with the view of the city. You can see the actual view in their photos. Secondly, despite it being surrounded by tall buildings, this cute pearl shines bright. The garden atmosphere is adorable. On the second floor their are small tables to enjoy breakfast. On one of our mornings, we actually ate outside. It was pretty chilly but we didn't mind, especially since they were cleaning our room. In addition, everything was a walking distance away. The gaslight district was about 10 minutes away, the trolley and bus to the San Diego Zoo were all 10 minutes away too.

Best Western does live up to their reputation. It's a clean environment & I didn't have no problems regarding noise.  Room 216 was big enough for two people. It's also affordable and enjoyable. And regarding homeless people around the area, you don't need to worry about that. If you think about it, their everywhere. They didn't bother me one bit. And for safety, it is safe during the night to walk to the Gaslight District & back & from the trolley/bus area to the hotel. Like any other trip, precautions would hurt.

& can't forget the complimentary breakfast. And after a night out in the town, I would suggest you order pizza to your room and relax. :)

Would Definitely stay here again if I was on a budget.

Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!!  I thought I'd save a few bucks and stay somewhere else. Huge mistake. Stayed one night, checked out and came straight here. I love this place. I'm working down here so I just need a comfy spot to come home to. I've been here before a few years ago and remembered this place was exactly what I needed: Clean rooms, comfy bed, lots of pillows, all the little extras, good breakfast and nice staff. Thank you so much. Just know that there's no food close by but that doesn't bother me.

Within walking distance of Gaslamp District & Horton Plaza. balboa Park/sea world within a 5min drive.

Literally like a little garden hotel, very clean rooms.
Customer service was excellent & very informative.
    Breakfast available.
Inexpensive as well (great for if traveling on a budget) .

Would recommend this place to anyone!
