This is the second time my husband and I stayed here at the country inn, I have to say it was very pleasant to stay here for the night. the room  was very clean and well kept. they have complementary cookies, coffee, tea and ice water and they even have complementary breakfast which these days is uncommon at most hotels. it is a very family oriented and dog friendly hotel. the staff members were very professional and friendly. if we're in town again I would infinitely stay here.

All I can say is THIS HOTEL HAS A VERY RUDE MANAGER. I would give it zero star if yelp allows.

Very nice!  Clean, very clean everywhere.  Our rooms were fine.  Carpet was new, beds were in good shape, nice tv, fridge, & microwave.  In room coffee was ok, but the coffee in the lobby was very good along with decaf and ice water.  Free cookies are available at various times.  The free breakfast was very good.  They offered everything imaginable.  The pool was large (not small).  You only get the extremely large pools at very large hotels.  They also have a jacuzzi.  They've also got a library of current books and magazines you can borrow.  Parking is free and well lit.  You might save money staying here because it is not on the beach or near any touristy places.  You'll have to drive to them.  Within walking distance of Qualcomm though.

The positives...The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.  the front desk staff were all very nice.  the free breakfast spread was good and had a huge variety of food, not just some bagels and muffins.
the negatives...the air conditioner was unbelievably loud and even made noise when it was completely turned off.  I complained to the desk and they said they would send maintenance up to look at it, but no one ever showed.  it seems like the room had no ventilation.  it smelled like a locker room and the smell never went away for our entire 4 night stay.  we'd spend the entire day away and then come back to our room and the smell would be there.

Very nice, family-oriented hotel. Full complementary breakfast and other free amenities like wifi. And a really large, well-outfitted room. A little out of the way, though.

This was a nice 3 star hotel that I bid for on priceline. It's a little far from everything; the area surrounding it is residential and office buildings. The guy who checked us in was completely in his own "zone": not helpful at all. I found out on my own that we get a free buffet breakfast! He didn't even bother to tell us what time to check out (BTW, it's noon).

Other than that, the hotel seemed well-maintained and clean. Maybe you'll laugh as hysterically I did when I looked at the room rate on the back of the door... $1299 for one person per night! HA!! No wonder the front desk guy didn't bother to tell me anything...I got the room for $62 on a Saturday night! Yay Priceline!

Hotel was great! My dad and I were in San Diego to visit the schools there and this place was perfect. Everything was clean, but it was all the extra little things that made this place so great. Coffee, tea, and cookies always out and the continental breakfast was far from the typical wimpy ones of bagels and danishes. They had scrambled eggs and alternated between sausage and Bacon on different days as well as hash browns or potatoes. They also had oatmeal a variety of cereals, 2 juices, waffles bagels toast and muffins!!! Beds were comfy, and the only complaint I had were that the towels were super scratchy. I would definitely stay here again.

Nice hotel, a bit out of the way if your going to beaches and downtown. Nice breakfast, but the fitness room was a disappointment... they are working on a new one though.

All in all, not bad, definitely not as expensive as downtown or beachside... but a quality hotel.

I was given a room on the 6th floor.  What staff failed to tell me was that several rooms on the floor were loaded with high school students.  Door slamming, yelling, running down the hall and door knocking kept me up half the night.  Two calls to the front desk (midnight and 2am) did nothing to solve the problem.  I ended up getting out of bed to shut the kids up(two other adult patrons in other rooms had also left their rooms to speak to the kids).  Never heard anything from management regarding the issue.  There was no follow up of any kind.

I had breakfast at 8 am.  They were already out of muffins and fruit.  There was no skim milk and 1waffle iron for all of the hotel guests.  The tables were loaded with dirty dishes and there was no where to leave my
Late once I was done eating.

The staff here was AMAZING, and I kid you not. They helped out with local information, printed out a map for me to get to the beach, when I needed a ride to a rental car location they were there to assist (as long as it was within their coverage). I couldn't believe how polite and friendly they were.

The price was alright, this hotel is not really close to anything touristy, and you will have to drive a good 20-40 minutes to get downtown depending on the traffic. Don't let that stop you though, this place is quiet for a good night's sleep. The bed was WAY comfy, and the pillows were great.

They are currently renovating, and I gave this 4 out of 5 stars because my room smelled like it was freshly painted, not pleasant to walk into during the day. I think if they let it air out, it would be fine. It would not stop me from coming back.

All my experiences with this chain have been good. This particular location has a great hot breakfast with nice crisp bacon. The cookies, coffee and water available in the lobby is great too. The room was in good condition. The shower showed age. The location is a bit out of the way for most San Diego attractions, but perfect if you want to be a little bit out of the touristy center of things.

I selected this hotel because I was touring UCSD with my daughter and needed a simple, clean room for one night. I read reviews and selected this hotel based on the comments. Thus, I'd like to offer my experience in case it is of assistance to the next person.

I was very disappointed in this hotel because the first room they put us in had an ozone unit still running in it -- there was a noticeable odor in the room. They confessed some people smoke in their rooms even though it is a non-smoking hotel, and oh yes, they also confessed, they allow pets for $75. So either a smoker or a smelly pet was the cause for the ozone unit (big clunky machine plugged in when we entered the room.) I asked for another room, and they put us about 3 doors down and we noticed a cleaning product smell as we entered. My daughter later saw masking tape surrounding the entire smoke detector, and when she went to go to sleep she pointed out small hairs on her pillow and said it smelled like smoke. I gave her one of my pillows and we called it a night. After switching light bulbs that is -- the one near the bed was burned out, I had to switch it for one that worked in the standing lamp. *sigh*

Don't expect this hotel to really be smoke free, it seems they cater to business travelers who smoke anyway. Yes, this can happen in any hotel, but this one seems to have it in spades. No excuse for the dirty pillow in any case. I forgot to mention the carpet in the 2nd room had significant stains. I would not stay here again and would not recommend it as it did not meet my definition of clean. It might not meet yours, either.

What a nice place for a great price!  The customer service was wonderful and with a smile.  The free continental breakfast was nice.  We had dinner at the lounge which I thought was a little pricey until I ate the food... the best hotel dinner I've EVER had and I've stayed  in some fancy places before.  The pool area is very nice and clean.  Love this place!

Went here for a work Christmas party.

Dont know how much my boss paid but at least there was an open bar for 3 hours and the food was actually really good.
They offered ceasar salad, bbq chicken, pasta with sausage, beans, 4 types of cheesecakes, and cheese n crackers.

Don't know anything about the rooms and accommodations.

Small room, but it fit 50 of us comfortably.

    Staff was nice and friendly.

I traveled for business, which is the only reason I see going back to this particular hotel. The redeeming factor is large and hearty breakfast, which consists of powdered eggs, rotating meat choice (bacon, sausage patties, bacon, sausage links) and a misc. side item (French toast, biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes). There is also a waffle iron thing that I kept forgetting about, but it looked good.

The rooms are simple, the bed comfortable, and the bathrooms clean. I wish there was a mini-fridge, but I was able to do without. I was not impressed by the front desk staff, even for a hotel of this category and class. They were not very upfront about the rather large deposit charge they preauthorize on your card. Maybe I'm just too sensitive about my money being tied up by someone other than me, but they should have a sign stating that or tell you when you give your card at check-in. I brought it up to the front desk supervisor and he just shrugged it off as if it didn't concern him. Not that there was anything they could personally do about it (corporate policy, I understand), but I was not impressed with that reaction. I would have been satisfied with an understanding nod or a super small apology, you know?

Stayed here for work purposes and recommend everyone to stay at the Holiday Inn next door to them as this place sucks.  I should have known this would be a bad experience when I called to book my room.  I mentioned that work had blocked some rooms for our event and the receptionist (male) stated they had no more rooms at our rate of $119 per night.  Instead he said I could stay the first two nights in a room with queen beds, then move to a king bed the thrid night, then move back to the queen beds my final night.  What kind of crap is this?  He then quoted me a price of $160 per night.  For that price I could stay at the Westin or some place much better than an Inn.
Not happy with the hotel quote, I called their 800 number and got a quote for $133 per night.  When I called back to cancel the first reservation, the guy pretended he did not remember me and sort of gave me a hard time.  Upon arrival at the hotel, the staff treated me like I was an illegal paying with food stamps.  WTF!  I then asked the receptionist for information pertaining to my training class and she gave me the sourest looking puss and made it obvious that I was inconveniencing her to look up the information.  The rooms are nice except that you can hear all the doors slam when inconsiderate guests go in and out of their rooms, and you can hear all the inconsiderate people and drunks walking and talking in the halls at all hours.  Needless to say, I got very little sleep and my stay was not comfortable at all.  Definitely not even worth the $133 per night rate.  Avoid this place like the plague.  I travel quite a bit in my profession and know what a quality hotel should be like.  The Country Inn & Suites by Carlson have no idea how to please their guests and the problems probably start with their management.   By the way, their "Free" breakfast is nothing to look forward to.  Their scrambled eggs look and taste like they came out of a can and reminded me of field mess during my military days.  I can't see how 'some' reviews rated this place higher than one star.  If you read all the poor rating for this place, you will not see any reply from management and the ones you do see have scripted apologies with no offer to make things right.

I stayed at this property initially in December of last year, and while there was nothing horrible about the stay, it was not a very memorable one. Things were a bit blah, and there was nothing memorable that stood out. And when they sent their online survey not shortly after my departure, I was candid about my comments--constructive while at the same time giving credit where there was (albeit a few).

It was a very pleasant surprise when the leadership of the hotel contacted me personally to let me know that my comments were appreciated and addressed--I've stayed at this property several times since (sometimes for a week at a time), and I have to say (as mentioned in someone else's previous review) that their strive for improvement has impressed me. While there are definitely "prettier" properties, Country Inn's service has been a joy. Shawn (Front Desk Sup) has been most helpful and remembers me and my needs. He's a very nice guy and will definitely be a great help for you.

The breakfast buffet can get boring sometimes, but of course that's probably because I've stayed there quite a lot. If you are there for just a few days, the menu does vary from day to day and will most likely not disappoint.

I tried to stay there one time and they were booked for the week, so I ended up staying at the Sheraton in La Jolla--a mistake. I think the properties are about the same size, Sheraton is prettier (reminded me of Hawaii), but the service was just NOT the same. And though they were about the same size, I always feel like I am one of very few people staying at the Country Inn. I value privacy even when traveling for business, and although I see quite a few people at breakfast and at dinner (even at the pool), I hardly ever run into anyone else in the property--A BIG PLUS.

Parking is plentiful. There are spaces in the back as well, so don't be fooled by what might seem like a full, front parking lot.

Not a very big gym (an elliptical, 2 treadmills, a bike, Soloflex and free weights), and I usually go very early in the morning (5 am) or after work (6 pm), and I have never had to wait.

They have free complimentary shuttle to take you to your place of business up to a 5-mile radius of the hotel.

Try to ask for an even-numbered room--they face the front of the hotel and will give you a pretty nice view. The odd-numbered rooms do look out to the pool--AND the parking lot. Not as pretty.

Overall, this is mostly a 3.5 stars for me--not the 4 that I rated, mostly because I think it can look prettier. But their service has definitely improved, my experience has improved, and I those are more important to me at the end of the day than looks.

The hotel is okay, but showing its age, the pool is small but gets the job done, the parking lot has enough spaces so you're not searching.  It's a bit out of the way, but is close enough to the I-805 and I-5 interstates that it's not that big of a deal.  I wouldn't call this a 3 star hotel, as the walls are very thin (can hear the neighbors), the room could use some updating, and the conference rooms are tiny down a dark hallway.  Food is edible, but just barely.  The lunch the served with the conference was chicken... every day a different version of the same thing. Yuck.

I came for business, otherwise I probably would never stay here.  Next time I'll check again and plead for something nicer before booking.  The only saving grace is the friendly staff.

Affordable, clean, safe place to stay if you don't mind driving 15 to 20 miles.
My demands finding a place to stay in SD were simple; affordable, safe, free parking.  Everything else, such as breakfast was a plus.

I grabbed the last room at the special (not mentioned here) web site rate.   The front desk was very professional and friendly.  The room was spacious enough and included a microwave and fridge.  Lots of space on the bathroom counter.  We took a room at the farthest end of the hall which I savor giving me the most chance of quiet as long no one braves the fire escape stairwell.

    Free parking
Many Southern California hotels are charging at least the cost of two gallons of gasoline a day for having a privilege coming to them as a customer.  There was plenty of parking not to far from the lobby entrance.

    Free breakfast
Biscuits/gravy, scrambled powdered eggs, one-type of pork - a giant patty of sausage-ness, cereal, and a waffle maker.  Juice, milk, coffee, included.  The dining area will get crowded.

I'm with family.  There's no one to brag to about saving a few dollars a night when sirens and gunshots heard.  The hotel patrons are with many family and teens off to the next tournament.

    Immediate vicinity
It's not immediately near any attractions.  It is located in a business area.  The exit ramp is undergoing construction.   Availability from the highway may not be guaranteed until completion.

    Toilet paper
I thought about polishing my wife's diamond ring with this.

    Water temperature
Your choice of; very, very hot ...  painfully, scalding hot ... cook a lobster hot.  Careful with the shower dial: Off, cold, HOT!

Rooms are climate controlled, hotel with pool, land there is lounge area popular in evenings  Has free wi-fi.  However, I don't trust any.

Clean, but rooms are small.  Then again, you get what you pay for. When we made reservations, there weren't very many room choices. If there was a king suite available, we probably would have been happier.

We are traveling for soccer, so we didn't have a hotel choice, but it seems like someone did their homework because the hotel fits our needs.  Free wifi. Free breakfast. Free parking. Not much more we could need.

Beds are comfy. AC is awesome. Bathrooms are spacious.

My one minor complaint is the water pressure. Not great. Not super weak, but not super strong either. The faucet's a little loose, so it's a little difficult to keep the water at the exact temperature you'd like...but that's nitpicking.

Good customer service. Love the cookies and coffee in the lobby ALL THE TIME.

We'd stay here again, but we'd probably stay in a suite.

Ok, more like 3.3 repeating stars.

From the outside, the hotel glows & radiates light like a Mormon temple. On the inside, I thought I was living in a midget hotel.

Nah. I like it. Wish I could add a "y" to our room to make it more roomy, but it's clean & safe, so I can't complain much.  Free wi-fi. Free breakfast. Really quiet & away from the hustle & bustle. Tons of parking. Free cookies in the lobby. Warm, friendly service.

Showtime on tv. Right off of Mira Mesa Blvd, so you'll have your share of places to eat. All in all, pretty damn good for the price. I'd stay here again. And probably get a bigger room next time.

This is a hotel that predominantly serves business travelers, but it's a fantastic place to stay at for personal vacation.  We stayed here a few months ago and am so glad that we did. It's just 1 or 2 freeway exits from beautiful La Jolla/UCSD area.

I loved this hotel because it offered comfort, above-par customer service, and delicious complimentary breakfast every morning (all you can eat too!).

Let's start with the comfort: The bed was spacious, linens were clean, and bathroom was clean.  The room was spacious as well, and it was equipped with nice TV, a desk, plenty of drawers to store your stuff.

Customer service: If you wanted privacy and declined housekeeping service on a given day, they would automatically leave a bag of clean towels, cups and toiletries outside your door. How nice is that? When I had spoken with the manager on the phone to work out a rate prior to booking, he was also very courteous.  Restaurant staff is also friendly.

Breakfast: This is not your average continental breakfast. Substantial items like sausage patties, bacon, mashed potatoes, hash browns, eggs, yogurt, cereal, tons of different muffins and breads, hot waffles on the waffle maker, are offered.  Every morning there is something different.

Other pluses: There are free cookies in the front lobby. Free parking.

(The free internet access in the rooms could be improved because it keeps prompting you to log in over and over again, but it's a minor inconvenience.)

This hotel pleasantly surprised me. I don't know how the other Country Inns are, but this one is a hidden gem in San Diego. I'd come back again without question.

I have such mixed feelings about this hotel.  My husband got the "romance package" for a late Valentine's weekend in San Diego.  The hotel is in an area far enough away from the highway and major shopping centers to be relatively quiet.  As with most, if not all Country Inns (we've stayed at many), there's complementary coffee, tea, water, and cookies at check-in, though the water was empty when we arrived, and I never saw it refilled.  There are also books in the lobby that you can borrow and keep as long as you want; just return them to any Country Inn when you're finished with them.

The romance package was supposed to come with things like wine or sparkling cider, candy, etc.  Since we don't like alcohol, my husband called ahead to confirm that we would have cider instead of wine.  When we checked in, the person at the front desk didn't know anything about this, so we weren't terribly surprised when we got to the room and there was a bottle of wine.  However, the person who checked us in promised to fix it, and when we came back from dinner, there were two bottles of sparkling cider.  I think the front desk person must have gone to pick them up himself, so that definitely helped my opinion of the place.

We were upgraded to a suite, which was nice, and it seemed to have been recently remodeled.  However, a few corners must have been cut in the remodeling, because some of the little details just weren't there--the clock radio hadn't been set, and the television hadn't been plugged in.  I did fall in love with the desk chair.  It was more comfortable than the bed.

We thought the bed was really hard and uncomfortable, and neither of us slept well.  The water pressure in the shower was pretty weak--I have short, thin hair, and it even took me a while to rinse out the shampoo.  Even though we kept turning the air conditioning down, it seemed like our room was really warm.

There were far more choices on the free breakfast buffet than at many hotels I've visited.  If you're a vegetarian, you'll find that there are plenty of options: cereal, juice, toast or bagels, biscuits, eggs, oatmeal, fruit, waffles, and probably more that I'm forgetting.  The eggs are pretty bland, but I think the kitchen staff realized that because there's plenty of hot sauce sitting right next to them.  While I've never found an authentic "Southern style" biscuit in California (I'm from the South, so I make Southern style biscuits at home!), these weren't bad.

I don't think I'll be in a hurry to come back, but the quality of service did help an otherwise mediocre hotel.

    This place is a steal!

I was expecting much less because of how reasonable the price is. Upon arriving, I was definitely taken back by how nice the hotel was.

Our room was really spacious for a standard room and REALLY clean. The bed was comfortable and the crib provided for my little one (which at first I was hesitant to get) was also comfortable for him.

The complimentary breakfast was one of the best I've ever had at any hotel. Waffles, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy and a variety of cereal and muffins was the first days breakfast. The next was hash browns, bacon, and eggs and a few other items.

What really got me was the service. They're all really professional and friendly. They go out of their way to make sure your stay is enjoyable. Thanks again to Israel at the front desk for everything again!

We'll DEFINITELY be back the next time we make our way down south to San Diego.

My family and I had a great stay at this hotel during the July 4th week.  We had never stayed at this hotel chain before and really enjoyed our stay.  We got a great deal on the price on their website.  They are running a summer sale if you stay 3 or more nights.

We went on a family vacation to Legoland, SeaWorld, and to look around Old Town San Diego.  The hotel was a great base to go to these places.  It was about a 20 minutes drive to the attractions we wanted to go to.

The hotel is located in an office park area, so don't expect a lot of shopping next to it, but there is a Chili's next door and McDonald's and Starbucks down the street.

We stayed in a King suite on the 7th floor and it was spacious and felt updated.  We made use of the frige and microwave that were in our room.  We liked that the hotel came with a lot of perks.  Free parking, free wi-fi, a delicious and varied hot/cold complementary breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausage, cereals, juices, coffees, pastries, bread, fruit, milk, waffles, oatmeal, biscuits, gravy, varies by day), free newspapers (USA Today and Wall Street Journal), tea/lemon water/fruit all day, cookies in the evening, and a free lending library.  I love the concept of the lending library.  We used a couple of books for our kids' bedtime routine.

The staff was super friendly and welcoming.  I loved that our crib was already in our room before we even arrived.  I had requested it when I made our reservation.  We would stay at this hotel if we were ever in the area again.  Definitely recommend!

Went down to San Diego over the weekend for the Police Softball Touney in Santee, Ca and stayed at this very lovely hotel in Mira Mesa, CA. The hotel is conviently off I-805 and near Westfield Mall. The hotel staff is friendly and welcoming. We brought our Yorkie as the hotel is pet friendly, cost is $75.00 and they give you a little bag of goodies for fido. The hotel offers a very nice complementary breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, juices, oatmeal, toast/muffins/bagels, all very nice. hard working staff.  Nice room, a little small but clean, comes with HBO/Showtime/ESPN/CNN- small frig- double beds-
Chocolate chip cookies, fruit, and lemon water near the check-in counter and coffee 24/7.
Very happy with this  hotel, they know how to take care of their customers.

My work booked us here and was not happy about our stay. First, they have a courtesy shuttle that wouldn't use to take my co workers & I to the the train stop 2.5 miles down the road so we could enjoy our days off in San Diego. Instead the shuttle sat there doing nothing during the time they would normally send it out.
Second, I went outside to go to work in my work truck in the parking lot and there was group of guys dressing for a wedding there and they decided to use my truck to hide themselves urinating in the parking lot. I said something to them and they didn't respond, they just kept talking to each other in a foreign language, so my way to work I called the front desk, got disconnected, called them back. The front desk girl, basically said she was too busy to talk to me, I explained what happened, she brushed me off and as she hung up, I heard her laugh. I ended calling Corp. customer service and they contacted the Mgr there. He tried to make good but the damage was already done.
Only a couple restaurants within walking distance, rooms are decent but not worth it to me.

Have stayed here several times as when the bf's company is paying, you do not get a choice. Stayed 4 nights this time- There never seems to be hot water in the shower..lucky to get luke warm. The maid service this time was horrible, the shampoo/conditioner was never replaced, the trash cans were not emptied and the hot tub was so over chemical processed you can smell it from the parking lot. The breakfast is mediocre at best. We eat early when they first serve at 6 am..the food was cold and bland. one morning that had what looked like little fat pillows..thinking hmm a plump little blintz. It was baked, hard on the bottom but i cut into it and still couldn't figure out the filling. turned out it was cottage cheese..who the heck fills a blintz with that much cottage cheese. It was gross to say the least, even the fruit they put out wasnt close to ripe. Overall, very disappointed

We stayed during the Christmas holiday and to our pleasant surprise, we got a room for under $100 in San Diego!  The room was clean and quiet. The gym was also clean; two thread mills, nice sets of weights, and a machine with all kinds of chest, back and arm exercises. I was pleased. The reservation comes with complimentary breakfast that ends at 9a. My only feedback is that the elevators were extremely slow and guests had to wait for over 5 mins sometimes; granted they were extremely busy during the holidays.

    - very clean, no issues with room cleaning
    - pool (fairly large) and jacuzzi (really hot)
    - has fridge and microwave (we stayed in a suite)
    - availability and price are better than most other places, especially on holidays

    - no crib was provided, even though I requested one while making reservation. I was told they are "first come, first serve". Well what am I supposed to do if I come with a 6-month-old? This was a major problem, and staff was unwilling to come up with any solution - their reaction was "too bad, so sad"
    - breakfast is horrible, even by hotel standards. Most of the stuff is just not edible
    - (minor) wireless internet is slow
    - located quite far from downtown and anything interesting

Summary: acceptable if there are no other options.

What more could you want? Free wifi, parking, breakfast, heated pool, hot tub, gym, laundromat, shampoo/conditioner/lotion, coffee, cookies, fruit, snacks, water, shuttle etc! To the reviewers hating on the breakfast 1) it's free 2) I just watched them refill items at 9:20 (remember it is supposed to end at 9:30) and they are friendly and the food options are everything you could want from making your own waffles, to yogurt, to juice, to cereal, to bacon eggs and hash browns etc. And it's not expensive! I would definitely stay here again.

Awesome hotel and such a great deal!

I booked this hotel through Orbitz. I can't remember exactly how much I paid, but I remember it being a great deal. I am so glad I booked it! Free parking, free internet, free continental breakfast, and free cookies/coffee at the front desk. We also had a mini-fridge and a microwave in our room. Can't beat that!

This hotel is in La Jolla, right off the I-805 freeway on Mira Mesa. I love how close it is to the freeway - so convenient! It's just 10 minutes away from the Westfield UTC mall.

At check-in, there is a table right by the front desk with cookies, lemon water, coffee, and hot chocolate. These cookies are NOT the generic store-bought dry crunchy cookies - they're fresh and chewy, and there's a different assortment of them every day! Soo yummy!

They have a nice lounge area that becomes a restaurant during dinnertime. We didn't get a chance to try the food, but they seemed to have a large variety of menu items ranging from burgers to seafood.

On the way to our room, we saw that they had a business area with free printing, as well as a pool and a hot tub outside.

Hotel Room: We had a room with a single king bed and it was rather compact. It was just the right size for two people, but it could easily become cramped if more than 2 people share a room. There was a floral lounge chair in the room that looked like it was from the 1980's - It was clean, but just very tacky-looking. My only major complaint about the room is that the bed faces the window...and the window draping does not cover the window all the way!! The only thing that covers the window is a thin white linen that was very sheer. Since our room faced the east, we were awaken by the bright sun every morning. That was probably the only negative thing about this hotel.

Continental breakfast: Omg...such a delicious continental breakfast with a huge variety of breakfast items. It was like a mini-buffet. Eggs, bacon, sausage, waffle stations, fruit, fresh juices, bagels, pastries, cereal, oatmeal - and more! It was so filling and lasted us until lunch. I looked forward to the breakfast every morning.

Housekeeping: The housekeeping staff was so nice and attentive. Our housekeeping lady greeted us every single day and asked us what time we would like to have our room serviced.

Overall, I had an amazing experience here, and I especially love all the freebies that come with this hotel. I will most definitely stay here during my next trip to the San Diego area!!

I wasn't expecting too much from this hotel, given the mixed reviews, and my 2 queen room did have some chipped paint on the walls and door, but I am pretty satisfied with the value this hotel provides.

I had wanted to go to the Hilton Waterfront with a Travelzoo special, but the reservation didn't go through, so I had to find another hotel at the last minute, and it turned out to be the best for the family.

For one thing, the free breakfast provided is so ample and filling.  You get eggs, potatoes (ours was roasted with herbs on Saturday and very delicious), bacon, a selection of breads, make your own waffles, cereals, fruit, yogurt, and oatmeal.  The fruit on Saturday, cantaloupe and honeydew melons, was fresh and sweet.  We really enjoyed breakfast, and it was so filling that we had to skip lunch and have dinner later.

They use Pantene shampoo and vaseline lotion for toiletries.  In the evenings they put out large, delicious cookies in the lobby to go with the coffee, tea, and water that is always there.  The cable has movie channels, which was pretty nice for the family. The parking is free, and they have free WIFI. Their pool is heated and open till 10 pm, and they even provide towels for guests.  Plus, the rates, $95/night, was one of the cheapest at the time of booking.

I am impressed enough with the place that I will keep this chain as an option when i travel in the future.  The Hilton would have been right on the waterfront, but you have to pay for parking normally (which is nearly $30 more), and they don't offer free WIFI. Other than the room, nothing else would have been included.

Not overtly friendly staff.  Sheets were rough cotton.  Woken up by a loud "pee-er" above me !   Worst thing in the world for me...one of those vacuum box sealed room hotels!  No way to open a window and get fresh air!!!  Gives me such a headache and claustrophobia!!!

Room was relatively clean but bed cover stank!  You'd think with such a concentration of hotels in the immediate vicinity, they'd try a bit harder to be special.

Overpriced for a 2.5 star hotel at best! Room was dirty with stains all over floor, couch, and drapes... Asked for an early check in and when I called to see if that was possible the manager was extremely rude! Finally checked in at a little after 2p, and I was charged $5 "early check in fee" really??? When others in our group checked in at the same time and weren't charged.

On a positive note...Breakfast was good, parking was ample. Housekeeping was good. Hotel lobby was comfortable and they didn't bother you while hanging out :)

I was looking for a place to stay close to San Diego and I found this place. For the price that we paid for this hotel it was EXCELLENT. The hotel was clean, the service was good, and the breakfast was very good for the price, if I was in San Diego, I would highly consider staying at this place again.

Dirty hotel. When we moved the bed, the dust that we found there made us believed that the rooms barely get vacuum......
We are here for Top Gun Soccer Tournament, it is not near the fields and we pay 139 + tax $ for the night. There are other better options.

Good price - we paid $110/ night. The room was dated but clean. Walking through the lobby you would expect the rooms to be more updated, but I believe they are in the middle of a complete renovation, understandable. The bed made my back hurt - maybe mattresses will be included in the upgrades. The breakfast was great! We stayed three nights and they changed the menu each day. However, the most important thing to me is cleanliness and for the most part we enjoyed our stay. My only  true complaint is at times the front desk lacked friendliness and flexibility and to me, besides cleanliness, customer service is important. Having a family of four, I am still likely to recommend this hotel and possibly return.

Ok I see a lot of negative reviews for this hotel and I really can't understand why. I've stayed everywhere from a motel 6 to a suite at the Bellagio in Vegas and so I feel that I'm a pretty good judge of hotels. This hotel is really nice for the price range. I paid $85 and was astonished when I walked into the lobby at the overall decor and general fanciness of this hotel. They had the standard Country Inn cookies, coffee and tea available 24 hours a day, pool, and exercise room. Additionally they had a full bar and a complementary breakfast that had a wide variety of foods to select from. My room was quiet even though it was by the elevators. Yes there were some stains on the carpet in the sitting room. Who cares? Who really hangs out in the sitting room when theyre statying at a hotel anyway? I would recommend this hotel to anybody, it's reasonable and has good food and a bar.

I'm rating this hotel for what it is, which is an affordable hotel. This isn't the ritz but for under $100 a night I was more than satisfied.
The beds were comfortable, the A/C was cold and the jacuzzi was hot.

They offer complimentary cookies at the front desk and lemon water. I never was woken up due to noise and the front desk was very accommodating.

Next time I'm in the area I will be staying again.

    Plus FREE parking and wifi!

This is a great hotel for the price and the location isn't too bad. I would knock off a star for the room not cooling as I would like but for the price I really can't complain. We stayed with the romance package which is only 5 dollars to add in and included room upgrade to a suite. The suite here is 20 dollars more than the regular room so it's a no brainer for us to add 5 dollars for the package. It also came with a bottle of wine and late check out. The room was your average suite with a separate living area. Tv had lots of channels, comfy bed, little bath supplies in the bathroom. Free breakfast but we didn't take advantage. The staff was super friendly and since I'm a club Carlson member they gave us a couple bottles of water in a little gift bag with a one question survey that I would be credited 500 points after taking.  The lady at check in also told me that club Carlson members can request late check out for free whenever they stay at Any hotel which was good to know. If you don't mind the place possibly being centrally cooled then I recommend.

I was able to get a great deal through Hotwire for $79. The hotel is very well designed, the lobby is warm and welcoming.

This is the first hotel we stayed where we smelled a fresh scent each time we walked into the room! The smell is refreshing!

We also loved the hot breakfast  buffet with scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, fresh fruits, bagels and bread, and a waffle maker. Also, it's only a few minutes from La Jolla which is perfect!

I stayed here from Jun 14th till Jun 21st great location. Not a busy area near a lot of businesses.  A good hotel with marvelous breakfast which they switched up daily. Housekeeping was on point they came every day.I had an issue with the front desk in crediting my account but they got it resolved.  I'm a Carlson club member and didn't receive any points for my visit or my 7day stay so they get 3-stars for that.  I would definitely stay here again though.

I have 6 nights booked here starting today and It's off to a rough start.  I called this morning to ask about earliest check in because I have to be in San Diego at 3pm and I've got some surfboards I need to drop off, and they said the earliest I can check in is at 3pm.  Before I could even get a chance to ask about a closet to store them at the front desk and explain why I was asking, I was being hung up on.  I'm hoping I can come back and edit this review at the end of the week in hopes of a much better experience.  I will be here fora f smily reunion and I think there is about 8 of us staying at this hotel over this week.  Big opportunity to make an impression...we'll see.

Day 3 here and they are doing construction on the 6th floor, I'm on the 5th. I've got a sleeping baby and they are literally drilling directly above my room...they are going to try and  maybe move us if they have availability. They said they are doing work from 9-4 everyday...some kind of notice would have been nice for 5th floor guests. This is ridiculous...

...They moved us down a floor only after they gave a room to my Brother and girlfriend, which I then approached the desk clerk again about giving them a room after I had just discussed with him the issue and he said nothing was available for another 3 hrs.  He then said miraculously another room became available and we could move in 20 minutes.  So many opportunities missed to make a good situation bad.  This team so poorly represents good hospitality, it's a joke.

...It's Monday July 7th, now the following week after my stay and I have the WORST taste in my mouth about this hotel...please read further.

During our check out we were presented with the inconvenience that we needed to check out using the original physical card mad to book the rooms, which was my mom's credit card.  While although they maintain a record of her card on file, they were not allowed to run it.  So, I had to drive 30 minutes south to where they were staying, retrieve her card, come back to the hotel and then proceed to pay with her card and check out.  We were told during this process that she could have emailed  picture of her ID and CC to us..that wasn't going to happen.

Today I check my bank account and lo and behold, they charged the room to me and not to her card, which i saw her swipe in front of my own eyes.  I'm not a very affluent person, so to have an unnecessary charge of 7 nights of stay on my room is extremely inconvenient since I have a rent check out that is now probably going to bounce.

Thanks a lot Country Inn.  This was my worst stay anywhere.  I'd give half a star if I could.

My husband and I stayed here on 04/19/2015 with our dog as this place is pet friendly.  We were given room #409 and it smelled horribly like male cat urine.  I did notice the carpet was stained in a few spots and the comforter had a stain on it also.  We paid $125.00 for a one night stay and I would say it definitely wasn't worth it. In fact, after being there for five hours we checked out due to the bad odor in the room.  Just a tip, bring your own toilet paper as what is offered in the room is single ply and ultra cheap!  The only reason this place is getting two stars is because it offers free parking, Wi-Fi, continental breakfast and 24 hour coffee, tea, water and cookies.  The lobby and first floor is impressive but the rooms...not so much.

Comfortable, nice bed, nice staff, ok Continental breakfast, pillow seem to be a little too soft. My room was ok it could have been cleaner. Water in tub didn't drain fast so there for when I was showering my feet were in a puddle. Lobby area is very nice and roomie u can fined coffee, tea, and water there which it nice. The hotel is near the 805 freeway. Free parking. It's not in the city. It looks to be in a office business area.

We had a great stay here last weekend for my Birthday celebration in La Jolla!

This was my first time at the Country Inn, San Diego North, BUT not my first time at this Hotel property.  I stayed here for the first time in the early 90's, it used to be a Doubletree I believe?  Then it became a Wyndham and I stayed there again?  Now it's a Country Inn.  For those familiar with Country Inn, I would say this Hotel is a notch up from the last Country Inn I stayed at in Lincoln NE--it's closer to a Hilton here. It was not exactly built out to be a Country Inn.

Free easy parking, free large buffet breakfast, nice staff, very accommodating front desk with our requests and we made a few, VERY comfortable King bed, spacious clean rooms, LARGE bathroom with "his and hers" toiletry space on the counter, quiet surroundings, easy fast in and out.  Towel quality is much better than a Motel 6 or Best Western, but not as good as a Hyatt Hotel.

Since 1991, for most of my trips to San Diego, I usually stay in this area.  It's close to Torrey Pines beaches, the La Jolla business district and a clean shot to Downtown and the Zoo.  There are 2 other hotels next door and 5 within walking distance.  It's a 10 minute drive to La Jolla, on and off the freeway in one exit.

I could have stayed a week at this property if needed--it felt like home.

I am going to pick on the free breakfast if you will allow because it's easy and inexpensive to change, and we have seen better at other hotels.

What we loved:  They served the best fresh cut Melons--no restaurant or store has better--must come from the Country Inn Farm.  Was glad to see that the Quaker was on duty, and there was a hot brewed pot of Quaker Oats, but it was a bit too watery--let up on the water--thicken it up.  The Country Potatoes were the best! On weekends food is served until 10.30 am!--the latest we have seen at any hotel.

What needs some changes: 1.) NO egg whites. Old bad cooking habits don't die fast.  You can't serve yellow eggs with yolk to your guests anymore!  It's very unhealthful. There was no egg white option--egg whites are the most important food you can eat.  The way many hotels handle this is to put out a little refrigerator with a see through glass on the front with the hard-boiled eggs in it and guests open and take a egg. Some just leave them on ice.  Easy!  We have seen this at Holiday Inn Express.  The Hyatt House will actually cook you an egg white omelet or scramble--but that is too much to ask.  2)  They put out a vat of Yogurt with a communal serving spoon but that is unhealthful and unappetizing--put out little sealed individual serving containers.  That is the way Residence Inn does it.  3)  They have a make your own waffle machine--you pour the batter in, wait 2.5 minutes and you have a hot waffle.  We have seen this at a number of other hotels.  On paper it sounds great, except the batter is not the best here, and hence neither was the waffle.  Maybe a batter change?

Next,  I am going to address security.  I don't believe that there was any security patrols at this hotel inside or out, and it may not be needed.  We felt safe in the hotel, but this area borders on a not so safe area of San Diego.  I have a sophisticated alarm system on my car with a diagnostic pager system.  The pager went off in the middle of the night waking me up.  I was very delayed getting out of bed, and when I looked out the window at my car everything seemed normal, no one around it, but the digital readout was indicating that the car was recently tampered with.  Very tired so I went back to bed.  The next morning I checked on the car--someone used their fingers to punch in the drivers rear view mirror all the way down so that it needed an adjustment before you could drive it again.  What I don't know is if a guest was drunk and was being mischievous, or if it was an attempted break in, and when the piercing alarm sounded they got scared away.  I am going to go with mischievous at this point.

Last, pet policy here.  We have been very critical in reviews of other hotels and motels that allow pets. Pets are becoming the new smoking issue as hotels try to accommodate pet owners.   Housekeeping has enough work trying to get rid of all the hair from previous guests day after day, let alone now give them the impossible assignment of ridding the room of dog residue.  It's disrespectful to the next guest to allow a dog in a hotel room is our feeling and we try to avoid hotels that accept pets.  Here, they have a designated pet floor with pet rooms.  So our concern was that if a non-pet room was not available, we may be bumped into a pet room.  Make sure to call ahead if you don't want a doggy room and see if they can set aside a clean room for you is our suggestion.

Stayed here over the weekend for our Wedding Anniversary. At first I was kinda disappointed that we were so far from everything. But realized we weren't all that far from where we wanted to visit during our stay.
The service was excellent. The room was very clean and spacious. It actually was kinda nice to be a little away from the hustle and bustle of San Diego.
We weren't that far from stores like Walmart if we needed anything. They offer a breakfast bar in the morning that looked very good.
There is also a pool and health spa to work out. The bed was a kings size so it was plenty of room to roll around LOL. In all this was a great place to stay and would stay here again.
