We stayed at this hotel this past weekend. The reason I'm giving it a 3 is because we could hear everything the people above us were doing, when housekeeping vacuumed, when they took a shower and when they walked around. I have never stayed at a hotel where I could hear the people upstairs. The other problem we came across was, there was hair in the bathtub that was NOT from us. It was in the bottom of the shower and on the curtain when we got there. VERY disgusting. I know others have stayed and showered in that room but I don't need to be reminded by their hair in the tub. The location was great, my husband is a Marine and it is right across from MCRD. It is also a short car ride away from Old Town and Downtown. I'm not sure if we would stay there again given the few problems we had. The breakfast was good, typical continental breakfast. The parking spaces that are for the guests above ground are tiny. We have a pickup truck and we couldn't park there, they do have a parking garage. Overall it was an OK hotel.

This used to be a Comfort Inn. It's renovated with new furniture, carpet, bedding, etc and our room was clean. It has a pool, hot tub & other extras. It even has free parking, free breakfast, and free wi-fi. So you'd think we'd be happy. Even after the guy at the front desk told my boyfriend he could NOT pay cash at check-in and had to have a credit card - even though he reserved the room w/ his card, we still were thinking "okay..." and gave him a card anyway - but ONLY AFTER we were told the card would NOT be charged, and we could pay w/ cash at check-out. So when my boyfriend went to check us out the next morning ~10:40am, the guy at the front desk immediately CHARGED MY CARD and gave him the receipt. My boyfriend questioned him "YOU DIDN'T EVEN ASK HOW I WANTED TO PAY?!" So the guy casually said he could reverse the charges, credit the account, and take the cash....like it wasn't a big deal. The big deal would have been if I didn't have the money or have it to spare on my card, I would have gotten hit w/ overdraft or nsf charges!! The guy just charging my card would have been a HUGE issue...despite the fact that he would have credited my account - which would have come days later. Then he told my boyfriend that he could've paid in cash when he checked in. WHAT?! That's exactly what we tried to do!!! And then when my boyfriend said they told us we couldn't do that. The guy's only response was "oh, I think I know who told you that." So we are very unhappy w/ the customer service at this hotel. The charging of my card w/out my permission PRIOR to the charges is unacceptable. It was an inconvenience that could have ended up much worse. And the fact that he was so nonchalant about everything didn't sit easy with us. I don't think we'll be back to the hotel. I wish I would have gone into the office and gave the guy a piece of my mind. I will be calling the corporate office to see what they have to say...and to see what the REAL policy is....and/or if it just depends on how the front desk clerk feels!!!!!!

All in all, we had a very nice stay here.  We spend one week each July in San Diego, and this trip was much better than the last trip when we stayed down town.  This hotel is just on the other side of the freeway from the airport, but you never hear the planes while in your room.  It's right next to the freeway as well, but the walls also muffled the freeway noise so it was just a susurration in the background, nothing unpleasant.  Our room was clean and had all the necessary amenities, but was a bit cramped for two queen size beds.  It had a decent size TV, desk, microwave, iron and ironing board, refrigerator, and coffee maker.  Unfortunately, the coffee maker was in the bathroom - I'm just not wild about having my coffee within arm's reach while sitting on the can.  Luckily, we were able to get fairly decent coffee at the breakfast buffet each morning as we all agreed that the location of our coffee pot was a bit unappetizing.  The only other real problem with the room was that the refrigerator was barely functional.  We brought some food with us to make some of our breakfasts and lunches so we could save money and eat reasonably healthy food during our trip, saving splurges for dinner and some lunches.  But the fridge wouldn't get cold.  I finally put some ice in ziplocs and used it as an ice box for the food we initially brought, but it did put a small crimp in our plans.

On the plus side, the almost silent A/C worked exceptionally well in the heat and humidity of July in San Diego, and most of the items at the free breakfast were edible.  The pool and grounds seemed clean and well maintained, and there was plenty of free parking in the underground garage.  The maid did an excellent job of cleaning our room every day, and was attentive to details.  The location is convenient and just about three blocks from the trolley station.  Also, we found a nice little casual neighborhood bar (Kelly's Pub) within easy walking distance where we were able to grab a few drinks and get a good dinner.  I thought this hotel was very reasonably priced and I recommend it!

Easy check in room was available before 4pm, and while checking in they asked if we would need a late check out which I thought was nice. Room was very clean, and had a microwave and nice size fridge to stock water. Free Wi-fi and parking, which you can not find in downtown SD. Also, the hotel shuttle will drop you off at the trolley transit so that you can get to down town. I will be staying here again for sure.

This is a great Holiday Inn Express! Great location and most things are good, although not perfect. Let's start with the positives...

If you've seen my previous reviews, Old Town San Diego is my best location to stay. Easy walking distance to stores, restaurants and bars, you can drink one of those huge Margaritas and easily get back to your hotel with NO problems. In addition, if you want to get to Gaslamp (upscale restaurants, clubs, shows) or out to Pacific Beach/Mission Beach/Ocean Beach (cool & casual beach vibe restaurants/ shops/bars) the taxi is a VERY reasonable $10 each way.  If you drive with a car, Old Town is SOOOOO convenient at the intersection of hwys 8 & 5, and can quickly get to anyplace in the county within 15 min. I love Old Town.  :-)

Holiday Inn Express at this location is renovated (mostly) from the older hotel that was here. The finishes are improved and the lobby and signage from freeway is much improved from before. Free breakfast in the morning is the normal Holiday Inn Express free breakfast which includes cereal, coffee, fruit (bananas & apples), cinnamon rolls, scrambled eggs, buiscits & gravy, bacon, toast, yogurt and bagels. The waffle making machine was out of commission when I was there, but there was still plenty to start my day off well (and did I say free? :-). There's a nice indoor pool and a nice outdoor jacuzzi set up to overlook the airport.  Parking is free and secured (but crowded), and even if you couldn't park below there is street parking available. It is residential around here, so I don't think its crowded business district which is good.  Even if there's an event in Old Town, this Holiday Inn is far enough away only the largest festivals would affect.  Free wi-fi touches off this package very nicely.

A couple bad things which keep this from being perfect.  The parking spaces are VERY crowded, so forget it if u have a large SUV. Better hope you can park on the street or two parking spots are available coz u aren't going to fit. The room I had smelled musty and old - if you are sensitive to odors, you won't like it.  And even though the windows on the west facing rooms opened and I was able to see over the airport to the bay and point loma, the freeway noise was pretty significant. Luckily the smell didn't bother me and the freeway noise was actually soothing "white noise" as I was going to sleep at night. And the view out the morning was nice as the sun was coming up.

Overall this Holiday Inn is one of my favorite stays in San Diego unless I can get a Beach Hotel for same price. The kids love it and the breakfast, pool and jacuzzi are nice touches. Good job!

We stayed here the night before a week vacation, and used their parking and airport shuttle service.  The manager was very friendly on checkin, and the shuttle driver was very talkative and friendly.  We were concerned about road noise from I-5, but we couldn't hear a thing from our room.  We would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here for two nights recently.  First, this hotel is situated right on the 5 FWY so all you hear is heavy traffic.  Fortunately for us, our room was not facing the freeway but I bet some rooms are and it's noisy.  Our room faced the back street/neighborhood which was OK.  Also, this hotel's parking is underground and about 95% of their parking spots were made for compact-sized vehicles, WTF?  The spaces in front of the hotel were tiny also.  They had a few spots of parking to check-in but again were also hard to get in and get out.  Don't count on roomy parking even though it's complimentary it's a hassle to get in and get out of this parking structure.  The room we stayed in was a basic room with a window unit of A/C which was a bit noisy but worked well.  The TV in the room had analog signal so picture was not good quality.  Front Desk: when I checked in the girl seemed on auto pilot.  She sounded like a recording when I asked her a question - she answered my question in a mono tone as if she answered the same question 24 hrs a day and without any personal touch.  FREE BREAKFAST: I thought it was satisfactory.  They had hot items like eggs, sausage w/biscuits and other continental breakfast items and hot coffee which was good.  Again, if you went outside to eat your breakfast, you'd listen to nothing but TRAFFIC.  If you went to the pool or jacuzzi, you'd listen to loud TRAFFIC from the 5 FWY.  This hotel used to be down a few blocks where another hotel is now.  I sort of liked that location better.  At least there one couldn't hear the 5 FWY and was a few blocks closer to Old Town.

I am giving this hotel four stars for two reasons. The staff was incredible! The front desk, the maintenance guys, and the transport drivers wow. We had just left a "luxury" hotel in San Francisco and that staff could take a few lessons from these guys. Location is the second reason for rating. Located about 3.7 miles from airport. It says 1.7 on website but that doesn't take into account getting out of airport. Still close enough. With hotel transport too and from extremely reliable again happy patron. In walking distance of Old Town San Diego and they will transport you there also. I am not sure I would walk in the dark. Now for the not so good. Hotel is very old and it shows. Needs a complete over hall. Not sure the last time our room had been vacuumed. While we saw plenty of maids cleaning the hotel is so worn it does not show well. Hotel backs up to the freeway so it's not quiet and our air conditioner was so loud it was hard to sleep. But given how great the staff was this hotel deserves a good rating. These people take pride in their jobs and it really shows!

My friend and I stayed overnight while visiting friends who were participating in a Lymphoma Walk last weekend. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and up-to-date this hotel was. The staff was nice and personable, and I loved that there was free parking (hard to find anywhere in San Diego).

The rooms were also nice and clean and better decorated than any Holiday Inn Express I'd ever been to before. A couple of my other friends were staying at the Hyatt near Seaport Village, and our hotel was so much nicer (no stinking of chlorine and feet). I would say this was probably my best hotel experience, despite the fact that I only stayed there one night and have never stayed at swanky hotels.

They have free breakfast from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and a 24 hour convenience store located near the lobby that carries Perrier, Haagen Dazs, every kind of chips, nuts, candy, drinks, frozen dinners, and gourmet sandwiches. Our room had a microwave, mini-fridge, and free HBO and Showtime!

One downside is that there's some freeway noise due to the location (facing the I-5), but it wasn't so loud that it prevented me from getting sleep. At least you can always find your way to the freeway here. If you have loud neighbors, that might be a problem, but that's with any hotel.

Downtown, Mid-Town, Little italy, Seaport Village, are all about 10 to 15 minutes away. I'd stay here again.

I don't leave many reviews but when I do it's for a good reason! This hotel is by far one of the best hotels I've stayed in for the price.

My wife and I arrived late at night and the curb appeal of this hotel at night is very inviting. Most have the saying "don't judge a book by it's cover" but realistically we all are victims of doing just that even with hotels. If we didn't have room reservations made and were just looking for a place to stay overnight, just driving by I would have wanted to stay there.

After being amazed of it's night time curb appeal, we looked forward to seeing what the rooms had to offer as most hotels may look nice on the outside but the rooms are a total let down. Well with this hotel that wasn't the case at all. We stayed in a single King bed room which had a very sleek and up to date modern furniture style. The room was very clean and did not have the usual "hotel room" smell. It offered a microwave, small refrigerator with freezer, ironing board and iron, safe, flat screen TV and "free" internet. The bed offered very clean and fresh linen. For my taste, the bed  was a little on the firm side but I still slept like a baby at night. Though this hotel is located next to the freeway, highway noise wasn't an issue at all in our room and was surprisingly very quiet. The only negative I would have about this hotel is that you don't have a great view from your room as some of the hotels in downtown San Diego, but who needs a view when you have a great looking room that makes you feel at home. The complimentary breakfast was surprisingly tasty as well, be sure to get you a plate before heading out.

Overall my wife and I were very pleased with this hotel and our stay. The staff was very friendly and even made sure to call our room to let me know I had forgot my credit card at the front counter when checking in. Parking was free, very secure and safe with a gated parking garage below the hotel. I'd definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a reasonably priced hotel to lay their heads.

We stayed here the night before a trip to use their park & fly program. When we arrived, we checked in easily and were given an upgrade. Our room had a huge bathroom, with a nice Jacuzzi tub and big walk-in shower. The room was clean and nice. Too bad we were only spending one night!

A bonus was that the hotel took us in their shuttle to Old Town (which is 1-2 miles depending on where you want to be dropped). They came back and picked us up after dinner. It was so nice not to have to hassle parking which can be impossible in Old Town, especially on a Friday night!

When we returned from our trip, we only waited a few minutes for airport pickup and because it was 8 AM, we were even offered free breakfast. They have a nice spread - much better than most other hotels like this. There was a pancake machine, yummy cinnamon buns, scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit, yogurt, toast, biscuits with gravy and juice.

Make sure you ask for an odd numbered room if you are nervous about the freeway noise.

Despite a good experience with the hotel, neither my husband nor I slept very well that night. Perhaps it was pre-vacation excitement. But there is that possibility that it was the bed that was uncomfortable. That said, I would give it 3.5 if I could!

NEW FAVORITE PLACE TO STAY IN SAN DIEGO!

We come to San Diego several times a year and this is now our new favorite place to stay. The hotel is very convenient to access from the airport as well as from the 5 freeway but it is not a high traffic street, which is nice.

I was pleasantly delighted by the hotel staff that checked us in. He was upbeat and friendly. He gave us all the info on the hotel access, pool, parking (which is free) and complementary breakfast information. Coffee is always available in the lobby and the coffee tastes good too!

My family and I are looking forward to future visits to this hotel.

    Pros:

    1. Clean rooms
    2. Microwave & Fridge in room
    3. Convenient location (near Old Town San Diego)
    4. Hot breakfast was good and provided with our stay.

    Cons:

    1. HARD beds. I like soft beds and my fiancee likes firm beds. But even he said this bed was TOO firm and coming from him, that is saying a lot. We were in a lot of pain due to the uncomfortable beds. So uncomfortable that we ended up switching hotels. Yes, it was that bad. We could not sleep on those another night. So we went to a Radisson with Sleep Number Beds (which we had been wanting to try out anyway.) The Radisson was 20 miles north of this hotel, so that is saying something. Though the staff at the Holiday Inn were nice enough to let us check out even though we already paid for the second night with no fees, etc.

    2. LOUD children playing & screaming in the pool at 11:00 at night. Bad parenting at its best folks. Its one thing to let your kids play and stay up late cause its summer vacation. But at 11:00 at night? Some of us have are tired from traveling all day. Please shut your kids up as a courtesy to all the hotel rooms surrounding the pool. The Holiday Inn staff should not allow this kind of behavior or noise that late. There should be hours on the pool or at least some type of rules when it comes to screaming kids playing that late.

Overall, this is a nice place. But the beds alone would keep us from coming back. :(

We stayed here because of the convenience to the San Diego Airport and their Park and Fly package.  The price is quite reasonable, too.  Check in was easy and fast.  The room was small, but clean, and very warm.  Couldn't ever get the temp regulated enough to be comfortable.  While the beds looked to be very comfortable, they were not.  I found that I did not sleep well, nor did the people with whom I was traveling.  Perhaps it was the temperature, but the bed seemed uncomfortable and I awoke with an aching back.

They not only provide shuttle service to the airport and pickup upon return, but will drive you to Old Town which is close by.  We used the shuttle to eat dinner in Old Town and they dropped us right at our restaurant.  When we called them to pick us up, they came quickly.  Pickup from the airport upon our return was very quick.

Upon our return from vacation, they offered us complimentary breakfast as it was early morning.  They have the best cinnamon rolls anyone could want.  It is hard to only eat one.  They are moist and flavorful.  All-in-all, a good experience when you need a Park and Fly option.  I would give this 3.5 stars if this option was available.

Pros: Convenient. Really cool elevator overlooking water, had outdoor terrace high up with a great view of the city.
Cons: Expensive daily parking. Separate building with extra walking at check in. Thin walls. No continental breakfast.

I think this is one of the most convenient hotels in San Diego. My family and I stayed there for a wedding, and its proximity to the airport and the highway was just what we needed.  Since we all came in on different flights, the free shuttle service was really helpful too.

The hotel is nothing fancy, but its clean, quiet, and the staff is friendly. The continental breakfast isn't anything to write your mother about, but, again, its very convenient. Also, free parking - and that's hard to find in San Diego.

They get 3 stars rather than 4 because when we arrived, one of the desk workers communicated that the shuttle would take us to the airport whenever we needed to go. This is false. In fact, the shuttle leaves on the hour and you have to sign up. This miscommunication caused a lot of stress and could have ended in someone missing their flight.  However, I'm inclined to think that this was a one time mistake rather than a regular occurrence.

    - Very clean and new
    - Quiet for being near the airport
    - Shotty shuttle service and it's like a bus with times, I like the service to take u when it's your time
    - AC didn't work well, room got cool but just on the edge of where I was comfortable
    - Beds and pillows were great
    - faster than average WIFI Internet
    - seems expensive, $100+ per night with discount from work
    - very good parking for 2 weeks was $30! That almost makes up for the price
    - overall it did the trick. This is not one of the HIE locations that will have you doing surgery or rocket science the next morning but you can get some sleep

Do not waste your money.  First the beds are awful!!! The bed was so Rock hard we left at 3am. Second, the carpets are filthy. Black stains run up and down the hallways. Third the room 353 was so incredible small I thought we rented a closet. A positive the staff is nice. Sorry. Not recommended. PS. This hotel is way over priced for its condition.

Seriously, I don't understand why this place has such good reviews. I needed a place to stay in San Diego for one night last weekend and based on the ok reviews we stayed here. Mistake!!!

    Cons:
-THE CURTAINS DON'T CLOSE. Seriously, I've never stayed anywhere the curtains didn't close. It was so bright in the room and we were literally right next to the freeway so the headlights flew around the room like crazy. We had to get coat hangers from the closet and use the clips on them to shut the curtains. Ghetto.
-It's RIGHT next to the freeway. I'm used to some traffic at night but this was so loud it was ridiculous. Ask for an even numbered room to avoid that whole mess but watch out, the even numbered room face the pool (which is open until midnight) so if there are people in it you'll hear them all night too.

-The walls are paper thin. I heard EVERYTHING. The people above us, the people next door, the maids vacuuming at 8:00 in the morning. I couldn't even complain about the guy next door talking at 1:00 a.m. because it's not like he was being really loud, I could just hear the entire conversation through the paper walls.

    -The beds are rock hard

-The parking garage is tiny. Seriously, the spots were too small for even a compact car. We got lucky and found a spot in the back but I don't know what people did that got in after us.

-They slipped the receipt for the room under our door in the morning with no explanation. I had to call down to the front to find out that that was the "express" checkout. I don't like that they don't have you sign anything upon checking out. Still waiting for the charge to come up on my credit card and it's been three days.

If I HAVE to say something good...the spa is open 24 hours as well as the convenience store in the lobby. It's centrally located to a lot of San Diego spots and attractions. The continental breakfast had a lot of choices and the cinnamon rolls were pretty good. But seriously for $200 a night in Aug, I could have found something better. I'm not hard to please but this was ridiculous.  NEVER AGAIN.

My husband and I live 70 miles from here and were looking for an overnight getaway. Based on the amenities offered, this was the best deal in town. It's centrally located with a 10 minute drive to downtown and walking distance to Old Town. We were able to check in 2 hours early as they had a room available. The front desk staff were all very helpful and kind. The customer service was great! First thing we did upon arrival was hang out by the pool. While it was fairly small, it wasn't packed so we had prime real estate. We noticed that there were plenty of servicemen onsite touching up on paint and other things. You could tell that the maintenance was completed on a regular basis. The property was clean and updated. Our room was spotless and the bed was sooo comfy. We had a microwave, mini fridge, hairdryer and ironing board in room which was convenient. They offered complimentary breakfast from 7-10 but we weren't able to indulge as we decided to sleep in. Also, upon check in, I signed up for the rewards program which offered the perk of late check out (2:00 PM) at no additional cost. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely book here again.

This place is horrible unless you want to pay tolisten to traffic from the freeway
Our spa tubs jets barely blew air to there was no benefit to passing for the privacy acreditnd space of the sofa suite
Our a/c malfunctioned and set off smoke alarm
Maintenance on pm shift was not knowledgeable saying"no one told me" when addressing each of our problems this place is pathetic. For all our trouble they offered a $30 credit. They couldn't care less. We had traveled 12 hours and were exhausted
    Made our night horrible
    Keep going

I was a little worried before we checked into the hotel because I typically don't stay at holiday inns. After seeing the room I'm pleasantly surprised. The hallways don't have any stains and they appear to be freshly vacuumed.

The front desk attendant was extremely friendly and helpful and arranged for us to be picked up at hertz once we dropped off our car. They also offer a free shuttle to the airport (beginning at 5AM).

Parking is very tight but that's to be expected anywhere in California. It's free so why complain?!

The room is beautiful and seemed to be recently remodeled. Sleek furnishings, clean carpets, and CLEAN! linens. The bed is very firm but I do prefer that. The room comes with a large mini fridge and a microwave.

Complimentary breakfast is served and the snack area is open 24 hours. Our decorative curtains don't close but the curtains that line the window keep everyone outside from seeing inside.

It's quiet. We had such a great time! Honestly we could have stayed at the hotel all day and just relaxed. They also have a 24 hr store in the lobby with great snacks! Oh and I read someone's review about the curtains not closing all the way...yes they do. The room stays pretty dark with the curtains closed. We don't want to leave! But back home we go. I hope many people choose to stay here. They'll enjoy it (:

Stayed here with my family and had a fine experience with no complaints.  The parking is a little tight, but we always found a space, even later in the evening.  The free breakfast is always a plus and my kids enjoyed what was available.  They also used the pool, which is a little small, but doesn't seem to be used too much so it worked out well.

This is a great location that was convenient to us for Old Town, SeaWorld, and the beaches.  Our room faced the freeway and I was afraid the noise was going to be a problem, but I was wrong.  I couldn't even hear any traffic noise from our room so don't worry about this at all.

I also like the market the have in the lobby, which I believe is open 24 hours.  It is more like a 7-11 than a hotel shop.  They had everything we needed, included sandwiches and other meal items.

I will definitely stay here again.

Stayed here for a night before our flight out of San Diego. The hotel was very clean and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. They let us keep our car in their parking structure for the week we were gone. They took us to the airport and picked us up. Even called us to make sure we were up so we wouldn't miss our flight.

I rarely stay in hotel rooms when I travel however due to the need for my daughter to have wireless internet at 7 a.m. for college exam via skype I was forced to rent a room in San Diego.  It was one  of the last few that were available after we left our first hotel as their internet was not dependable.  The traffic along the freeway outside our window was unbelievably loud all night long with the air conditioning running full blast.  The front desk person said it would quiet down by midnight which it did not.  He did offer to move us however my daughter was successful in falling asleep and I was not.  I just spoke with Jasmine the manager today and she basically indicated that it was not for a light sleeper which is not usually me.  My suggestion to this hotel is to at least let people know before they get settled in for their stay.  As a small business owner I would never considering building a hotel without better soundproofing or at least letting potential customers know about the roaring sounds outside the rooms facing the freeway.  Even though I asked for a refund for part of the room she indicated that was not possible.  I would have gotten better sleep in my car in the parking lot on the inside of the lot.

Had an excellent experience at this hotel. I've stayed at HIEs all over the country and this was one of my favorites. We came last weekend for Comic Con and expected to be disappointed because of the busy weekend and everything was great.

Someone else complained about thin walls, but I was surprised at how I couldn't hear anything from the other rooms. Usually that's the first thing I notice.

Our room was very clean, overall the hotel was very clean.

    Parking was abundant.

    The shuttle service was quick.

Something that is very important to me is the staff. If anyone is rude or dismissive I notice right away. Everyone we talked to were so nice and accommodating. We talked to four different desk people and everyone was nicer than the last. This hotel definitely had one of the best staffs that I've encountered.

He made our family trip from being the worst trip ever to the best trip we ever had. The suite that we booked was very clean, the bed sheets smell very fresh, the house keeping lady's where every friendly. Each time we go to San Diego we are differently going to stay here. Thank you Holiday Inn Express for having an employee like Art to making our trip the best we ever had. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone that would like to have a great time in San Diego for a great price.

Wow I give this place 5 stars! We got dropped off early, like 2 hours early and the staff was amazing. We only waited for a short time in the lobby Which is so comfortable you could fall asleep. Then we checked in and were given goodie bags for being IHG club members. Oh but we also got upgraded to a suite on the 3rd floor. It was almost like a getaway for my hubby and I. It had an awesome layout jacuzzi and huge stand in shower. We want to come and stay here again. We have a 7am flight and this hotel has a free shuttle. A+  even though breakfast is not open till 6am the staff said they will still be able to offer us some kind of breakfast before we leave. Very comfortable, clean, spacious facility. Nice, friendly staff. Very accommodating! A must stay most definitely.

Love the shuttle service to Old Town, no parking fee like other hotels in the area. The free cinnamon rolls for breakfast are great. Room is standard for a Holiday Inn. No freeway noise like others have mentioned, or thin walls. Slept like a baby. will stay here again.

Very very noisy-it's right by the highway and you can hear the traffic all night. Breakfast was pretty gross, they had many options but was dry and had no flavor. Wifi connection was strong.

SO WONDERFUL when a place exceeds your expectation.  So the location isn't the best of hot spots, but the place is SUPER clean, and the staff is TOP NOTCH.  Go out of their way, bend over backwards to help you.  Its a renovated tired hotel, with small rooms, but with high sleep quality, shuttle service to all major attractions as well as airport that on a short trip - NO CAR AND NO PARKING FEE needed!  Beds are so comfortable, and Dolores keeps the complimentary breakfast nook in tip top shape.  The entire staff - Art, Kylene, Elia, Rana, superb, out of bounds customer service staff.  Seriously.  Lay over and time to kill?  Stay an extra day, park your body here, let them take you places and just enjoy.  Consider it your RV with some pizzazz!

Free shuttle, close to freeway and a block or two from old town. Only issue I had, the refrigerator compressor in my room constantly was turning on and off and making noise. Luckily I had ear plugs so it was too bad when tried to sleep.

Didn't expect too much from a Holiday Inn but the room was spacious and the breakfast was nice. Water pressure is strong and there's a microwave and fridge in the room. I didn't realize how much of a blessing those appliances are until u came to this hotel. Not too bad for around $100/nt.

If you don't have a car, this hotel would be difficult to explore San Diego. They do have a shuttle and the old town amtrak/trolley is accessible but not super convenient. Not to mention the hotel is up a hill. I have a car,  so this place was perfect. I especially like sitting between the building and just staring at the freeway, skyline, and the ocean.  Gorgeous view!

This place is not a $200 per night room.  It's loud, all night long.  They fail to tell you it runs parallel with the freeway and you wake up to traffic noise when you want to sleep in.  Cockroaches!!!  Yes, I said it.  This place is worth $65 pet night at best.  We would have been better off staying at Motel 6, at least you know going in what you are going to get and what you aren't.  Anyways, the rooms don't look like the pictures they show on the website.  Water pressure sucks.
The only redeeming quality this place has is the staff is very friendly and it's a secure free parking area.  They also have a free shuttle to get you around, so if you are planning to throw a few Margarita's back in Old Town, you won't drive drunk.   The continental breakfast has quite a selection, if you don't feel like eating at a restaurant.  Would be nice if they had square trays for those that don't want to eat in the dining area.
We come to San Diego often, this is off our stay list.  For $59 more you can stay at the Manchester downtown by the water and Gaslamp District, it's an absolute palace.
    Don't stay here.
