    I stayed at this Holiday Inn Select on a business trip. There are several things I always like when staying at a Holiday Inn. That are daily newspaper, free breakfast, and free internet. They are the essential features when I look for a hotel to stay. Ok, enough for the good comments. Here comes that bad part. The first room I stayed which is at an end unit on the 4th floor. You would think that it should be quiet with a good view, but I was wrong. The room faces the highway, and somehow, the window doesn't filter much of the noise from the highway which most hotels are pretty good at. The noise is so bad that I couldn't event sleep. I asked them to change a room for me the second day. The second room was on the second floor and facing the parking lot. The experience was then much better. Another thing was the room temperature control doesn't really work! I hope the hotel keeps the good parts and fix the bad parts.

    Where do I start? When I checked in the person at the counter Jason was a bit rude. His conversation was snappy and seemed to imply that I should not have been staying there. After a long day of work I decided to go down and watch the game and order something from the hotels restaurant. I ordered a hamburger and fries. The place was a ghost town and did not have  many customers at the restaurant. One hour later still no burger and fries. After having to walk up to the bar because the waiter  stopped coming to my table he says let me check on it. He then comes back and says "we are out of ground beef." out of all the things to be out of you run out of ground beef?  It was a horrible experience. I spoke to the manager the next day and she said was "I'm sorry to hear that."  other than them not taking responsibility for the lack of service it was a good stay. They definitely don't have Vegas style customer service. I would give them no stars but the system made me give them one.

    I've stayed here twice and both times were good experiences.  The front desk people are friendly and efficient and the rooms are always clean.  Considering there's aircraft taking off and landing nearby as well as a freeway, the rooms are surprisingly quiet.  They've usually got some good online deals for their one bedroom suites.

    I did not have a problem with the hotel or the staff.  They were very helpful every time I needed something.  I thought the location was good in that it was easy access to the highways. The breakfast buffet was great too!

    Stayed just one night and was very pleasantly surprised at this hotel. It's modern and aesthetically pleasing (e.g., nice carpeting and artwork). At $80, the room was spacious and intelligently designed: king bed, sofa bed, large desk, flat-panel TV, large bathroom. Couldn't find a single little facet to criticize about the room; for example, the bathtub had corner shelves for soap and shampoo, and the towels were in a cabinet under the vanity. The microwave and fairly large refrigerator were set into the cabinetry so they weren't visible.  Both firm and soft bed pillows were available. The desk area was spacious with plenty of electrical outlets at the base of the lamps.  The desk chair was like a real office chair--comfortable, tilt-able and with a mesh back.  I was given two free bottled waters and a basket of free crackers, candies, a  granola bar, trail mix and an apple. I had no problem parking right near the hotel entrance. The WIFI worked great.  The only outside restaurant within walking distance is a Carl's Jr. across the street, but so what?  This isn't Manhattan or Hong Kong. The hotel's little restaurant is open till 10:00 and they'll cook off the menu. There's 24-hour room service and free breakfast.

    The hotel itself was very nice. Clean, comfortable and helpful staff. The restaurant was the worst I ever ever been too. My daughter's fetticini  alfredo with shrimp was bland and the shrimp were so overlooked they tasted awful. My wife's cheese  quesadilla was cold and the cheese had a bad flavor. Her beef dip sandwhich came with rubbery beef and watered down gravy. My chef salad was average at best. I feel sick after eating there. If you stay, avoid the hotel restaurant!

    I was in town for business and spent one night here. Overall I liked it. Not much to say or go into detail, so I'll just make a quick list.

    Likes..

    - Clean and new. I was kinda expecting an old and busted room, but it was modern looking and well kept. My room was a king size with a fold out sofa bed.

    - Bright. My room faced the front of the hotel. So I got lots of natural light during the day and early evening.

    - Pretty quiet. The room next door had some kids and I could occasionally hear them laughing/screaming, but it wasn't too bad. Even though the hotel was right next to MCAS Miramar, I could barely here the jets. And I believe there are no flights at night.

    - Free wifi. Connection was pretty solid in my room and even in the parking lot.

    - Affordable. I probably could have gotten a cheaper place, but I don't mind paying extra for something clean and modern. I paid a little over $100 for a Friday night.

    - Free parking. I think some Holiday Inn locations do charge a daily fee for parking. This one does not. And it's first come, first serve. If the lot is full, then you have to park on the street.

    - Easy access. It's right by freeway on/off ramps.

    Dislikes..

    - Small parking lot. There was some type of convention nearby and the parking lot was packed by evening.

    - No place to eat. There's a Carl's Jr directly across the street. But if that's not your thing, then you gotta hop in your car and drive. There are a few strip malls and major chain restaurants within a 5 mile radius.

    - Breakfast? I saw no indication that there was a free continental breakfast like other hotels offer. My room had a menu where I could order breakfast for a fee. But since I had an early morning meeting, I didn't get a chance to check the lobby for food.

    - Traffic. Since it's located near the freeway on/off ramps, there's a little bit of traffic during certain hours of the day.

    I would definitely stay here again. Even though it's not right next to the Downtown area, it's not that big of a deal to drive. Maybe 15 minutes or less, depending on the time of day. It's quiet and clean.

    LOCATION:  It is in a tricky location west of Interstate 15 at the Miramar Road exit.  I say tricky, because you need to get into the far left lane as soon as you exit onto Miramar Road.  Otherwise, you will deal with some painful traffic while trying to change lanes.  Coming from the west (going eastbound on Miramar Road) is a bit easier.  However, stay in the right lane and be patient with traffic (but don't go too far right and end up in the Kearny Villa Road turning lane for southbound.  If you do, you might as well get comfortable driving 10 miles out of your way to get back to the hotel!!).          

    ATMOSPHERE AND DESCRIPTION OF RESTAURANT:  I spent two weeks here for work-related stuff.  The hotel was very clean and the staff was exceptional!  I was here during the MCAS Miramar Air Show, and was glad to have booked my room in advance.  If you have work at the air station, this hotel is a perfect location!  The hotel hosts its own restaurant/bar downstairs with a three large-screen televisions.  It can comfortably seat about 30+ people.  During my two weeks there, I never saw the restaurant bar full...which was nice after working long hours and just needing a quiet place to relax.  The bartender named Johnny is wonderful and greeted me by name each time I saw him.  It made the stay all the more worthwhile.  I usually ate lightly when I was ordering food.  I would strongly recommend the chicken pesto wrap!  I probably had it 7-8 times during my stay!  Also, the bar has a happy hour from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays - offering free beer and wine for hotel guests.        

    SERVICE:  As written before, the bartender was exceptional.  Also, the front desk staff was extremely helpful in answering unique questions regarding my stay and obtaining receipts for my employer...even faxing copies direct to my company.  The cleaning service was great re-stocking my citrus mint soap and coconut lime verbena shampoo and conditioner each day.  These were the best soaps and shampoos I have ever used in a hotel!  

    FOOD:  I have already mentioned my recommendations for food within the hotel.  However, if you want to take a stroll out of the hotel...located next door to the lobby is Chin's Szechwan Restaurant.  This place is incredible!  You can read my separate review on this place!    

    CONCLUSION:  I will definitely be returning as this location is great when traveling for work.  I did not give the hotel 5 stars because the gym was too small (only a couple of treadmills), and I would have preferred more options and space.  One item of note, the laundry room was sufficient but not special.  For the rates advertised for rooms in this hotel, I would have preferred NOT having to pay $3 per load of clothes.

    My family and I had a great time here. the staff was very helpful and always there for anything we needed. Our room was clean and beds were super soft and comfy. I had a great stay. No complaints and since I stayed here during a holiday, it was near both attractions we were going to ( Legoland 7 mi. and Sea World 11 mi.) I would come again and we have even reccomended friends to stay. It's inexpensive and looks very nice!

    First off... staying in a hotel in your hometown is weird. I lived in San Diego since early youth so when it's time to "go home" down there, I have a very accurate autopilot. Veering from that course feels strange and I suspect always will. Especially when your hotel is way the hell up the 15 in Miramar. (No offense to the people in Miramar, but you live in the Africa of SD)

    Anyway... the Holiday is has been seen by probably every San Diegan ever at its post right off the freeway. "Where are you staying?   Oh that Holiday Inn off 15? Oh yeah I know where that's at." will be a common conversation with the locals.

    Holiday Inn's have really gotten their act together in recent years. I'm a Marriott man but the thought of driving another 15 minutes north to the Spring Hill Suites didn't sound appetizing on a daily basis. Especially with Poway traffic.

    The hotel is lit creatively from the outside, making it almost look like a small scale version of a reputable Vegas hotel, but not -that- nice. Lights do a lot and the night can't hide what the daylight makes clear. Free parking is offered and when you check in you'll receive a bunch of vouchers for the breakfast in the morning. This is one place where they've got the Marriott beaten down. The Holiday Inn breakfast is really, really good and features a ton of hot items along with the normal cold complimentary staples. I had piping hot eggs, sausages...etc every morning, slathered of course with cheese and hot sauce (healthy...).

    The hotel is extremely clean and has an outdoor pool and a fitness center if you're so inclined. The view isn't much to speak of as the location puts your vantage points directly focused on the dead acres of Miramar Air Station, the eyesore 15 freeway and random businesses' concreted back lots. To remedy this lame view, they've let the palm trees grow wild up the buildings. I had a huge window full of palm fronds at my level which nearly blocked out all other views of Carl's Jr. across the street.

    The rooms are of the older style, somewhat elegant wall paper and patterning on the carpets and furniture but the beds are comfortable and the showers get hot quick. Can't beat those two options.

    I'm not hooked enough to abandon my Marriott Rewards account for whatever Holiday Inn offers, but at least I can say comfortably that I've found a suitable replacement for when the Marriott's nightly rates fall out of bounds with company policy.

    They did a really lovely remodel.  The freeway noise didn't bother me, as it was a steady sound.  They have a terrific breakfast buffet that's included with your stay.  Very nice!  I usually don't like Holiday Inn Hotels, but I booked this one on a discount site (unseen) for just $50, so we were super happy!

    I was at a company training event at the hotel. They provided the facility, lunch, refreshments and audio-visual equipment for the event.

    The sound system was getting all sorts of interference. As far as I know the hotel never fixed the problem.

    The food was very basic and the potato chips tasted stale.

    Overall, not very impressed.

    We stayed here this past weekend and it was a pretty nice stay!
         My group and I rented out their suite and it was comfy the beds were clean and really sleep inducing!
    We arrived here very late at night and checked in late and the front desk was very courteous!
      There was a complementary breakfast and it very very yummy, we ended getting there late but the ladies allowed us to take up to our room, lets just say we packed the food up!!!
    They gave us extra pillows and blankets upon request!
    The soaps were Bath and Body Works and the really impressed me.

    Location is not the best, we are a bunch of San Diego girls so it does not really matter for us, but if you are visiting this location has nothing to offer for tourists. no view, except for the i15
    The air conditioning seemed to not work that well we heard in blowing but it did not seem to get cold at all...
    The phone was broken so we had to go to the front desk with our requests I know I know first world problem but is one thing I expect to be working in a Hotel Room.

    Let me start off by quoting there website.

    This hotel's San Diego North - Miramar address is close to many area attractions, and our free shuttle operates within five miles of the hotel. You can even get a ride to the airport for a small fee.
    Announcements
    Transportation to/from San Diego Int'l Airport is available for a nominal fuel surcharge of $12 per person/per trip. Hotel provides complimentary shuttle to local businesses w/in 5 mile radius.

    Now wouldn't that make you think that you could get a shuttle to the airport? Guess what NOPE only when you are checking out I am not sure how a customer is supposed to know this but that flat would not do it even though we were going to pay.

    The manager was extremely rude and unhelpful and told me there was no one above her who I could talk to so the only thing I could do was go to yelp and share my experiences. This is without even getting it to the story about the reservation they messed up shorting us a bed and then trying to charge us for a roll away.

    I travel and stay in 10-15 different hotels a year and this one has had the rudest/least helpful staff of anyone I have visited.

    I've been to some $400 a night hotels in San Diego that shall remained nameless...no not really...Bahia near Sea World...that were nowhere near as clean, well-decorated or well-managed as this humble Holiday Inn!  

    First off, I was just looking for a place to spend one night that would (hopefully) be clean...nothing fancy, cheap and close to the MCAS for the Miramar Airshow.  This place seemed to fit the bill and had decent Yelp reviews.  Thank you reliable Yelpers, you were right, this is a little gem of an inexpensive hotel!  

    Jason, the desk clerk, was friendly and helpful regarding directions to the airshow entry gates and local restaurants.  The outside and reception area are well kept and seem updated.  There is a comfortable, clean and well decorated cafe just beyond the front desk with two large, flat screens TVs.  There is a free shuttle to take you anywhere within 5 miles of the hotel.  

    The halls are typical Holiday Inn, but in the room there were some lovely and thoughtful surprises for us:

    1) Nice, thick mattress beds with simple and elegant coverings (with little pillow ribbons with tags reading "SOFT" and "FIRM" on the appropriate pillows...and they really were different firmness)

    2) Complimentary waters (the aforementioned $400 a night hotel had water too...for $6 a bottle!!!) and a small fridge and microwave

    3) A snack plate for my little guy (Banana, apple, crackers, and mini individual peanut butter containers)

    4) Free Wi-Fi

    5) Really cool shower head with several different settings

    6) Along with the standard Bible, was a book of aphorisms by a Buddhist...I found this refreshing, open-minded, and balanced.  We even read some of it.

    In the morning we went down to the cafe and had the buffet breakfast for $9.99...it was not a huge buffet, but was yummy and the waitress was excellent.  Oh, and kids eat free!

    My son was sad to leave it was such a comfortable little place and both my husband and I were pleasantly surprised since we both had decades old memories of Holiday Inn, which, though not nightmarish, were not anything like the pleasant experience we had at this Holiday Inn.

    The bummers of our stay were few and for under $150 a night, completely forgiveable:

    1) Cracked corner tile in bathroom.

    2) One phone was not working

    3) Old style, smallish Phillips TV and not all the channels that were listed really worked.

    4) Bathroom counter needed another wipe down...but I'm a bit of a clean freak, so maybe it was just me

    Overall our expectations were far exceeded!  Oh, and the advertising campaign all over...in the informational booklet, on the writing pad, on the room service card, and so on, is very clever.

    I would definitely come here again and not mind at all driving a 10 or 15 minutes to Sea World, Legoland and other attractions if I can save money and have a well-kept, well-managed place to stay.

    Thank you Holiday Inn.  My image of you is completely revamped!

    Wow! This hotel was amazing even though it was kind of in the middle of no where since it's near the Marine's base or something. Kuddos are for it being quiet at night though. :)

    Customer service was excellent the moment I stepped in to the hotel and out of the hotel. Jason, Alan, Deanna, & Angela, and the 2 shuttle drivers!

    The pool and hot tub was pretty clean. And I thought the business center was a big plus since I had to finish up some online class during vacation. They offer free wifi too! Big PLUS!

    Had a good experience two years ago with my volleyball program so ecided to give it a try this year.   Was not even able to get a resevation completed before the rooms i wanted were given away.  BAD customer service.  Left several messages with the events coordinator and she never got back to me.  I decided to go ahead and make reservations becuause i was tired of waiting for a return cal and all rooms were gone.  Thanks for getting back to us so promptly.   Many hotels in the area with better and more professional service.

    Not as great of a hotel as it was last year.  The free breakfast is lacking on so many levels and not worth fighting people over it.  How do you run out of bacon at 6am when you have a hotel that is booked to capacity?  The lighting in the room entrance is awful and not helpful when trying to get ready outside of the bathroom.  The beds are very small for 2 people.  The internet is non-existent as we kept losing the signal and we weren't even moving!  The staff at the front desk is great and they have free parking which is why I gave them a 3.  Otherwise it might have gone down to a 1.

    I attended a company holiday party here, so I never actually stayed in a room. This review is pretty much for everything aside from accommodations.

    Bar: Pretty spacious area, since they use it for their breakfasts in the morning and a bar at night. The bartenders work efficiently, but their drink knowledge is fairly limited. Pretty much the only drink they can make is a Long Island. I guess it's a bit expected since it's not a full out bar, but kind of a disappointment.

    Ballroom: Very spacious and perfect to accommodate our party.

    Catering: TERRIBLE. The food was just complete crap. Our Mexican coworkers called it "Gringo Mexican food," but I'd say it was even worse than that. Shitty bean and cheese burritos that looked like they were pulled out of a 99 cent store freezer, dried up taquitos, terrible tacos, etc etc etc.  The servers were efficient but the food just sucked.

    Overall, the hotel itself is quite nice for a Holday Inn. The lobby area is beautiful and spacious, the general use bathrooms are clean, and the staff are friendly.

    This place is so awesome the best customer service the best shuttle drivers and a special shout out to Johnny in the restaurant. He made it so nice for me and my wife while we visited San diego. I would recommend this place to anybody looking for a hotel in San Diego or just a good hotel to get away from the house and take a little drive. Thank you to all involved in my stay great staff.

    Decent rooms but not one of the better Holiday Inns I've stayed at. The service is hit or miss; something rude, sometimes friendly.

    This hotel is next to one of my favorite San Diego breweries (Alesmith); check it out if you're thirsty. You won't regret it.

    The breakfast is undoubtedly a big flustercuck; dirty and many items have run out. The staff do a decent job maintaining it but the weekend I was there, the hotel was incredibly busy (sold out).

    The hotel is by a freeway but we weren't bothered at all by it, though we were on a high floor.

    Nice hotel. But this is why I book Holiday Inn's. Very consistent, nice chain. This property is pretty good. Although be advised. Water pressure is horrible. No free breakfast or coffee in lobby. And absolutely no food or restaurants (other than a Chinese place) in walking distance. Other than that. I like property, have stayed here before, and I will again.

    Free wifi and free breakfast! One of the nicest holiday inn's I have stayed at. I get the corporate rate which saves me a little bit of money per night. All in all this a great hotel to stay at in San Diego for the price! Free parking and easy to get too! Not abad deal at all!

    Checked in on a Saturday evening and was greeted with a friendly check-in by a front desk person who had all my paperwork ready and asked me what amenity i would prefer for being a loyal IHG reward member which I chose a drink at the bar which included beer or wine. My room was also upgraded to a 1-bedroom suite which had a nice balcony, comfortable bed, pull out couch for the kid and two nice flat screen tvs with a kitchenette.

    Free wifi for guests which was pretty fast as well! Free parking.

    The hotel bar was nice, staff was friendly, food was good (had sliders sub fries). :) The area is nice, other guests at the hotel were friendly, and we will go down to the pool in the morning.

    Stayed here for a night during a quick trip to visit family in Santee, San Diego.

    Staff was friendly and service oriented. The facilities and my room was clean - stocked with towels and everything I would need, plus free wifi!  On Sunday mornings they have breakfast buffet for a fair price and the food itself is standard.

    I would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone going to or near Santee, San Diego.

    It was OK. Room was clean and the breakfast buffet was what you would expect it to be. Not fantastic but decent options and plenty of food.
    Our biggest complaint would be the weak  water pressure. It felt like a camper shower and our toilet would randomly make a loud noise and a huge air bubble would come up through the toilet bowl. Luckily it was only air and not backed up feces.
    Wouldn't be my first choice.

    2nd stay here. Last time was in 2013. Our room was really nice, I could be in a Marriott, Sheraton, Hyatt or Hilton. The beds are comfy, the rooms have microwave, frig and coffee maker. We had a king bed and it also had a sofa in the room. The bathroom is roomy with a bowed shower curtain. Bath and Body Works shampoo, conditioner, soap and lotion is really Nice. Down pillows, crisp white striped sheets, extra outlets in the lamps, nice sized flat screen tv.
    Great service at the front desk, breakfast included. We will be back!

    My husband just stayed here recently due to a quick business trip in San Diego, and needed a good deal on a room for the night. Booked this hotel through Priceline for an excellent rate - rec'd over 50% off the regular rate. Parking was free so that was nice. The room was clean (spot checked for bed bugs...none found). He opted out of the complimentary breakfast and grabbed something elsewhere so can't review that. One thing he did mention was that the TV was terrible - he said he couldn't watch 2 minutes of a show without the program acting up. Good thing he was tired from the flight and not too interested in TV.

    Overall, the room satisfied expectations for the pupose and was a good value for the price paid. Location was nice (in terms of close proximity to the 15 freeway).

    My least favorite IHG facility.
    This place used to be managed well, evidence by the awards on display in the lobby, and the decor spared no expense when they last decorated it.
    However it is poorly managed.
    The mattress was the worst object I have ever tried to sleep on!  
    The paint on the bathroom door was sticky (& not 'fresh paint' sticky either), the surface of all the tables in the room were glazed with some greasy oily substance, and the gym facilities were severely lacking.  Two tread mills and one elliptical a pool and a 'half filled' hot tub!

    I would look elsewhere for a place to stay.

    Gym is a little small, restaurant needs more vegetarian options.

    Parking lot is little tight at times. Recommend using the spaced that edge the building perimeter. More room to back out.
