Established in 1953.

Welcome to the Inn at Sunset Cliffs located in historical Point Loma, California. We are one of only a few San Diego hotels truly located on the Pacific Ocean, just steps away from Ocean Beach. Originally built in the 1950's, we have recently completed remodeling the 24 room inn thus creating a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere to accommodate any San Diego visitor.

No other San Diego hotel offers a view as breathtaking as from our spacious terrace overlooking the Cliffs, Ocean Beach and as far as La Jolla.

Our terrace offers a panoramic 180-degree ocean view with the scenic Ocean Beach pier in the background. Enjoy the million-dollar view during the day and the sound of the crashing waves at night.

This Inn is literally on the edge of the Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach. It's got about 20 rooms and a ( little ) pool in the middle like on Melrose Place. It's got a big patio with awesome wooden lounge chairs overlooking the ocean and heating lamps for chilly evenings. At high tide, the waves splash up on the edge of the property. Rooms are perfect, staff is great. They have fruit, coffee and newspapers down by the pool in the morning. There is no other place to stay in San DIego. Slightly more pricy, but worth the experience.

we stayed here for two nights for a wedding that was happening next door.

i don't have  anything very different to say from the other reviewers here. the view was AMAZING, salty, misty air and all. we loved falling asleep to the sound of crashing waves!

we shared a two bedroom suite with another couple. i found the room a little shabby. for $250 a night i expect a little luxury but i think you are mostly paying for the ocean views here. we really fell in love with the location but this is for sure an "inn" and i don't know if i would ever pay more than $100 for a room here.

if you do stay here check out what's cookin' about one block down. super good food for really reasonable prices!

We splurged on the Presidential Suite for our one-night getaway, and while the room and the views were beautiful, even with our off-season discount, it wasn't quite worth the $350+. The inn essentially feels like a glorified motel, and while the service was friendly, and the views are amazing (I'll take a cliffside ocean view over a beach view any day!), it just didn't feel like there was enough "luxury" to warrant the price. Our "silk" comforter was a little worn, and the sheets under it seemed like standard issue hotel fare. The plasma TV didn't have the sharpest picture (like, fuzzier than a CRT tv), and I wish it could have been better situated to watch TV from the bed, or even the windowside hot tub. Speaking of the hot tub, it's HUGE!!! But the suite is on the corner of the U-shaped building, at the top of the stairs, so we heard everyone coming back at night (which feels a little weird when you're in the shower, hearing people walk right past you).

That said, the views ARE amazing, and everyone on staff was really nice. The free wireless was down when we were there, but there's a computer with internet access in the office that guests can use, as well as free off-street parking. The pool's fence (set about two inches from the edge of the pool), is a bit of an eyesore, though I'm guessing the hotel's main charm is the drama of the waves coming up on the cliffs more than poolside lounging.

A nice place to stay away from the hype of La Jolla or the crowds of the beach, but only if you're willing to pony up extra for a room with a view (at least you'll get more for your money here than in the chi-chi hotels). Don't forget to say hi to Puma, the resident kitty!

I recently spent two nights. The location is convenient for downtown and Seaworld alike. Free parking is nice.
I stayed in a kitchen suite. The bed was really comfortable. The sleeper sofa not so: bring sleeping bags for extra people. It's an old structure. So, I could hear upper floor's conversation (they might have been louder than usual). The sunlight did not reach our room, which left an odor that wasn't that pleasant.
The view of the ocean is priceless. They could wash away seagulls' droppings once in a while.
It's never hot for the pool which is OK to dip in and spend an hour or so.
The rooms are a little pricey. If you plan to spend a lot of time at the hotel, I would recommend it. If not, you can find better places cheaper.

One of the most beautiful hotels in the Southern California area. Local, intimate, and parked right on the cliffside. The presidential suite cannot be outdone, best hotel stay I've ever had. Highly recommended.

One review said we loved falling asleep to the crashing waves.  Our $285.00 is 5 feet from a wedding party--powerful sound system, a bonfire that has filled our room with smoke.  Definitely not a relaxing experience.

Let me start off by saying this is a beautiful hotel.   The rooms are clean and very charming.  Most of the staff are friendly and helpful.  The problem with this place is the management, more specifically Liz.

I booked this venue at the beginning of June for for my September wedding.  My husband and I were happy they had an opening on such short notice.  We checked out the place and shortly after put down out non-refundable deposit. This was the second time we had been to the hotel.  Each time we came excited to get married at such a perfect site, but we would leave wondering, is it just us, or is this girl awful?  She would be on the phone with a guest rolling her eyes answering a question, then feel the need to tell us how stupid they are. "Oh my god they actually asked if we have Ipod docks!"(they don't)  "Anyway!"  Then she tells me how the reason our wedding date was open is the couple who were getting married had this awful breakup. The guy was cheating on the bride. -Nice

As time went on, I realized my best bet was to avoid her altogether.  My family would call and tell me she was rude, she told them the hotel was booked up and not give them the rooms we reserved for the wedding.  She would argue the names of guest to the guest.  "Your name isn't Sobb you said Bob!!"  If I would call her with a question she would bark back: "Well are you asking me or telling me?"  My best friend tried to surprised us with the Presidential sweet, so she called to arrange it.  Granted, she didn't say "Don't tell her"  but she did say: "We would like to pick up the room key a day before so we can put it in a card and surprise them."  Well she called me and told me.  My friend wasn't happy, and let her know.  At this point its 2 weeks before the wedding and I was very busy, I don't want unnecessary drama.  Well Liz calls me and says "Your friend just called and bitched me out!"  What are we in high school?  I'm not sure what she wanted from me. I let her know it was disappointing but not to worry.  I didn't want to tell my guests what I feared: This chick was a nightmare.

All this is nothing compared to the day of the wedding.  A few people told me she was smoking pot at the wedding, weather that meant she seemed stoned, or they smelled it, who knows.  Honestly, I live in OB and could care less if someone was smoking pot.  My In-laws on the other hand might not agree.  That still wasn't the worst part. During the speeches she walks up too my Mother in-law and hands her a broom.  She says "If I have to touch a broom, it's a $250 fee.  So you better start cleaning." This is when it went on too far.  Is this chick serious?  Does she have any idea how to speak to people?  We have been nothing but nice and normal to this girl and she treats everyone around her like trash! My mother in-law told my sister in-law, she got into it with her and ended up in tears! At that point it everyone took their turn yelling at her, myself included.  Was this the best way to deal with it?  Probably not, but we all have our breaking point and this was mine.

I look back at my wedding and it was a blast. We had a great day. Although it is a shame some of my relatives last memory is the bride cursing out Liz the "Event Coordinator."

My wife and I stayed here on the second half of our honeymoon. The first half was spent at Hotel Del Coronado which we found to be overpriced and stuffy. This place is the exact opposite. Fun, laid back atmosphere with amazing views, dogs running around the courtyard, and nice rooms. Highly recomended!

Stayed there last weekend. Had change of plans at last minute, so stayed in two rooms - 110 and 214. 110 had a kitchen, complete with silverware and dishes! Very handy. Only thing about that room is the motion sensor lights worked mysteriously in the dark, when we were sleeping. Haunted?  :-)

Room 214....wow, what a view! I'd stay in that room every time if I could - it just doesn't get any better.

The whole staff (but especially Alex) was very friendly and helpful.

I love this hotel! I got married here 6.19.10. it was amazing!

Even if you live in SD you should stay for the weekend, it's a mini vacation. OUTSTANDING!!!!!

The rooms were outstanding, clean, comfortable and big.

The staff is hands down phenomenal. Liz went way above the call of duty for me!

I can't wait to stay here again!!! Thanks for everything!!

There's a lot of great things about this place.  Instantly you walk through the entrance and BAM beautiful ocean view that just gets better as you walk closer to it.  The staff is very courteous and easy going, and is eager to make sure their guests stay is exactly as it should be.  Inn at Sunset Cliffs has this little wandering dog who is like their mascot (Cruz) who is pretty cute (and I hate dogs).

Pros: amazing location, plenty of  lounge chairs/patio area, well priced, great shower, nice decor, nice flowers, Cruz, nice area.

Cons: hard Matress, semi cramped bathroom, parking is light, motion sensor light in bedroom is problematic, room tends to get lightly humid from being so close to ocean, some rust from ocean exposure

I have always been interested in staying here but wasn't sure if it was going to be a good place to stay or not. I have to say I really loved the place! I stayed with my whole family - we stayed in the two bedroom suite which gave us plenty of room for the five of us. The hotel is very charming, freshly painted, well manicured gardens, and beautiful teak furniture out on the terrace with a spectacular ocean view. Our room was very nice, with wood floors, marble tile shower, sitting area with a nice leather sofa. We LOVED falling asleep to the sound of the waves - it was awesome! For breakfast, it's a ten minute drive to the Broken Yolk - the BEST breakfast place in San Diego! I really have to compliment the staff - my daughter left a birthday card with a 50.00 gift card in the room after we checked out. She called the hotel thinking she would never see that gift card again but the manager dug through the trash, found it and mailed it back to her. Thank you to the honest housekeepers and the manager for the excellent five star customer service!!!!!

I had the pleasure to stay here on 5/6-5/7. it is wonderful. the staff is so nice. The room was sparkling clean. More than enough towels.
They had a nice decoration on the bed with fresh flowers and in the bathroom as well. The shower was great. I am a huge fan of walk in showers. I like the wood flooring. I think it is so much better than carpeting.
And the star was the view. Amazing!!!!! I sat out there and just listened to the waves crashing it was great and so relaxing.
We never see the ocean in Vegas, so to me it was heaven on earth.
I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

This place is amazing!  I have stayed at a couple different places in San Diego and The Inn has one of the best locations.  The sunsets from the deck are something we made sure we were back for each evening.  The rooms are spacious and the beds are very comfortable. The hotel grounds look like a botanical garden with all the beautiful flowers. Staff were very friendly and the vibe was laid back and quiet. We will be back!

We stayed here a few weeks ago with our three young children.  The hotel was outstanding.  Friendly staff, clean decent sized rooms, and views are just incredible.

Our kids loved the little golf putting area and the swimming pool.  There was plenty of room for them to roam around without bothering other guests.  The hotel has about 24 units, and it the guests appeared to be split fairly evenly between families and couples, and the two seem to mix pretty well.   In other words, if you wanted to be there with your kids or on a relaxing visit with your significant other, this place works well.

One really can't say enough about the views and the proximity to the ocean.   Sometimes on trips with the family, the end of the day can be really stressful because everyone is tired, you're crammed back in your hotel room, etc.  But at this hotel, with the spacious grounds right in front of the ocean, and the ocean itself, seemed to take the edge off of everything.  In other words, at the end of the day, you aren't stuck in your room, but instead can relax with this stunning view of the ocean.

I also like how this hotel blends right into the local, eclectic, urban neighborhood.  You definitely feel part of the Ocean Beach area of SD rather than feeling like you are at some resort isolated from the community.   The staff again was extremely friendly and very accommodating and responsive.

This hotel is a gem and we'll definitely come back.

I have stayed here several times, my family used to get a room for a month every July or August to escape the Phoenix heat, now that they have stopped that I still make it out every so often.  As stated before the main draw here are the views.  Incredible patios where you feel like you are hanging over the edge of the cliffs as the waves pour in and crash against the rocky shores below.  One patio has a Plexiglas shield up to protect you from the sea spray and mist from the waves below. If you are the beach going type, this isn't your place, but if you are the kick back for hours on the patio drinking your favorite beer or cocktail as the sun sets and you watch the boats roll by like something out of a Jimmy Buffet song or Corona commercial, this is your place.

There are several shops for food, coffee, laundry, etc within walking distance, and if you are a runner there is a path going along the road that provides fantastic ocean views both ways.

It can be a bit pricey, but if you want to get away and totally relax, this is your place.

I stayed here last weekend for a girlfriends birthday.  She said the room was a little over 300, and my thoughts were "for OB? No, No, she must have said La Jolla.." But she didnt, and as we checked out the room on Saturday, I realized why it costs that much. The place was HUGE. Two bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen.  I loved that they had pots, pans, silverware, and glass cups. I totally felt at home.
The view is breathtaking and I personally love how this is an independently owned place. Their prices have  to be a little bit more steep because they are competing with corporations who can offer cheaper prices because they are better known.
The staff is super nice and put up with my loud bunch. Super helpful and attentive. If they ever allow us back, I would totally love to.

We just got married at the Inn at Sunset Cliffs and it was soooo AMAZING!! The hotel is awesome, the rooms are awesome, the location is awesome, and most importantly Gavin and his staff are amazing!! Gavin did such a great job with our wedding, he took the time to figure out exactly what we wanted and carried it out perfectly. We received star treatment the whole time, he lead our rehearsal perfectly, and on the day of he took care of everything (timeline, vendors, etc) so all we had to worry about was ourselves. My family and friends are still talking about how perfect everything was, how nice the staff was, and how cool of a location it was.  It was such an amazing experience, I recommend everyone get married here! Thank you to Gavin and the staff at the Inn! We had such a wonderful day!

DO NOT GET MARRIED AT THIS HOTEL!  The location is great and the price is very reasonable, however... if you care at all about basic responsiveness, this is not the place for you!

My fiancé and I checked this place out and decided this was the place we wanted to get married. For over 2 weeks we called and left messages for Gavin the wedding coordinator to talk over the terms. After two weeks of no response we emailed Gavin to let him know we were trying to reach him. He quickly responded that he was best via email and to send him anything we needed that way. We very quickly assembled an email with our few questions/requests and sent it over.  And then we waited, waited and waited some more. One month later after about 3 follow-up emails and a follow-up call we emailed him again letting him know that despite being very interested in the location, we were going to start looking elsewhere if we didn't hear back from him.

Well folks - that last email was sent a month ago and still, to this day we have never heard back. We even tried going over his head to the owner and were simply told that Gavin was the only person we should be dealing with.

If it was that hard to get booked with this place, I don't even want to image how the rest of the wedding planning would go. Again, yes you might go and like the place. You will probably even like Gavin when you meet him - but be warned - the follow through is just not there and it is not worth risking your wedding.

If anyone wants to ask me anything about this experience or would like to see one of our several unanswered emails, please feel free to ask!

I can't say I have really ever stayed here although it is a beautiful spot located right at the start of the Sunset Cliffs drive. I went to check it out for a Reader story on how the hotel is being sued by an environmental group for code compliance violations. Apparently, the cement area where they hold wedding ceremonies is built out on a seawall that is technically on Coastal property.

Before Yelp advertisers go getting their feathers ruffled, and "flag" this Yelp, I think they should think otherwise because I just adore this little Inn and am very impressed by how nice it is. I heartily recommend it and this just comes from walking around, taking pictures and poking my head into some of the rooms being cleaned.

The front desk staff was very courteous and helpful. They handed me fliers on weddings and even though you have to reserve the entire place (all 24 rooms) in order to book a wedding party, it is well worth it, IF you have the money to afford it. If cost was no criteria to consider,  I would so have a destination wedding at the Inn at Sunset Cliffs. Though the hotel package does not include food, catering, DJs and other extras, who cares if the panoramic Pacific, swooping pelicans and seagulls, and surfers are part of the wedding party?

The small pool in the interior is screened by glass walls and that is probably a good idea because the locale is breezy and windswept but again, that is part of the charm. Walking down the steps to the wedding area that is in legal contention, I was struck how I could look due north and see directly to my fav summer hangout-Bermuda Beach. The concrete patio that is where ceremonies are held really was no great shakes-the day I was there it was wet and the plants around it looked in need of some fertilizer.

However, despite all the legal mumbo-jumbo swirling around this place, I would hasten to add, that if I were to be a bride soon and my daddy had a lot of money, I would book a wedding here post haste and take advantage of what may soon be a beautiful cliff-side hitching post disappearing soon. Inn at Sunset Cliffs: no need to flag this Yelp!

Absolutely everything I was looking for!

I went to San Diego for the 4th of July 2013 and we drove up to Sunset Cliffs Park to do some sightseeing and on the way I saw this cute little hotel away from all the hustle and bustle.  On the way back, I stopped in to get a brochure and take a look at the grounds.  Two story, boutique type hotel in a horseshoe shape with a pool in the middle...ocean views from most rooms or just step outside for breathtaking views.  Prices very reasonable.  Came back for Christmas and it was PERFECT.  The staff was very sweet.  I enjoyed mornings on the BIG balcony right over the water.  I could see the ocean while I took a shower.  I could see the ocean from my bedroom.  I could see the ocean from my living room. I could see the whales spouting water!.  Very special.  I could HEAR the waves crashing from my room.  Located so close to the harbor, restaurants and groceries etc.  Accommodations are clean and the bathroom seemed to be recently remodeled.  I will be back.  I tell everyone that I feel like I found this little "GEM" on the ocean.

Outstanding quiet setting on the cliffs over the Pacific.  Friendly San Diegan approach to happy laid back hospitality. Rooms are small but the point here is not to hang out in the room. Take your camera! Over the many stays thru winter and spring I've watch storms rolling off the Pacific, migrating whales, dolphins and always pelicans and other sea birds. I always rise early to have my coffee sitting on the cliffs to watch the new day come to life.

The Inn at Sunset Cliffs is an awesome hotel located right on the edge of a cliff in Ocean Beach/Point Loma. In the 50's the building was actually an apartment complex with a pool in the middle and a patio with gorgeous views of the ocean. We fell asleep every right to the sound of waves crashing...unbelieveably relaxing. There are benches and chairs on the patio along with a wood burning fire pit and a BBQ. We sat in the morning and watched dolphins playing in the waves  and pelicans were out hunting for fish. I guess the inn holds weddings here but none were going on during our stay.

A solid four stars but this hotel could be a solid five if they just bumped up a few things.

First of all,  please review your "no dogs allowed policy", especially since I heard several dogs running around the grounds barking. We were in San Diego to attend a wedding so we had to leave the dogster in a kennel. I fell in love with this hotel and it's gorgeous views of the ocean,so I wouldn't mind booking again. That however is not likely going to happen since we travel with our dogster 98% of the time. I mean, I am more than happy to pay a doggie deposit just  in case my doggie does any damage which she never does since she is housebroken and she is beyond the puppy chewing/destroying everything is sight phase.

There was a bottle of wine in our room when we checked in. That's nice for people who like to drink but I would have much preferred a continental breakfast instead...nothing fancy, just muffins, juice and maybe some oatmeal to get us going in the morning. It seems that 99% of the hotel guests loved the wine in the room as most of them sat out on the patio drinking, smoking, enjoying the fireplace and talking. We chatted with some super friendly people and had a great time with them.

The front desk people:  please bump up your customer service skills a notch.  A more friendly attitude is much needed. I noticed when I called the hotel to book the room that the person I spoke to (male) was uncaring and acted like he was taking my pizza order. There was a ZERO "welcoming" factor to his demeanor. I experienced the same thing when I called from the car on the way to the hotel to confirm our reservations. The clerk's attitude was something like "whatever...who cares anyway". Geez....TRY to put out the WELCOME MAT please!!! I experienced the same thing when we checked in...ZERO WARMTH!! I asked about the parking and he told me it was on the side of the building. I told him all the spots were taken and he said "Well, we are 100% booked"....O.K...so WHERE DO I PARK THEN? He just pointed across the street. Please don't just point and please try to  give me some more direction rather than shrugging and declaring "Oh well, we are 100% booked:".  How about telling your guests, "I'm sorry  that all the spots seem to be taken but there is free street parking directly in front of the hotel". Why did I have to drive around, looking at street signs to figure out that street parking was not restricted??? Needless to say, my hubs was NOT a happy camper since he HATES to street park the car. We lucked out and found a spot directly in front of the hotel but the hotel website should state that there is LIMITED parking in the hotel lot.

We booked a two bedroom suite without a kitchen. It was upstairs so we had gorgeous ocean views and breezes from our living room. The bathroom looked like it had been recently remodeled and it was nice and new looking with a soap dispenser on the wall, plenty of towels and lotion, makeup remover towelettes and a shower cap provided. There was limited counter space but there was a cupboard on the wall to put toiletries. The shower was a big disappointment because the water pressure was so low. We had a small flat screen TV on the living room wall as well as a TV in a chest in the bedroom, both with  limited cable channels. Wifi was free and easy to access. The living room itself had hardwood floors, a couch, a table with two chairs and a desk set up with the coffee maker. The bedrooms has nice firm mattresses and the bedding was fine, not luxury but fine. I've rented apartments during my poor college student days which were way smaller than this! I love the hardwood floors in the entire suite, I simply cannot stand carpeting!

I loved my stay here even though the friendliest employee I ran into was the maid who gave us a big smile and cheery "Good morning" when she saw us emerge from our room. Checking out, the front desk was not much friendlier. I never heard "How was your stay" or even a "thanks for staying with us". Granted, the kids at the front desk appeared to be college age kids, but that is no excuse for the lack of information and the lackadaisical attitude displayed.

Our room was super clean and we never heard one peep out of our neighbors. I would stay here again IF they changed their "No dogs allowed" policy and the front desk 'tude.

This place is so fantastic, we love it.  It host incredible views, friendly staff, clean rooms and just an overall romantic atmosphere. We frequent the Inn often. There is an incredible deck to just relax and watch the sunset. It happens to be proximal to some great San Diego restaurants, so it makes a great place for a small romantic get away. This place will always be special to me. It just has a certain charm that's hard to find without breaking the bank. LOVE IT!!!!

Perfect day for a Wedding celebration !!! Oh I just LOVE weddings !

I was fortunate to witness the joining of two 'in love' newlyweds (Congrats Marianne and Ben!). I can see why they chose this site as their reception ! Love was definitely in the air!

It's pretty close to what I envision as my 'ideal' wedding spot to look like. Outdoors and by the water ! Small and intimate with close family and friends. This location had just that and more.

A beautiful, panoramic 180-degree ocean view with the scenic Ocean Beach pier in the background. Resembled a picture perfect painting from all angles!

Fluffy, marshmallow clouds, baby blue skies, the sound of the calm waves and the smell of the ocean, with a touch of the crisp breeze blowing through you as the sun slowly sets. /sigh

Nature was at work on this beautiful, magical day. What more could you ask for? The view alone was truly, truly BREATHTAKING ! Everyone was in awe of the view !

Picture taking frenzy throughout the day, especially by me ! Take a peek of the shots I took. Pictures don't do it justice though. You really have to enjoy this gorgeous site up close in person.

Rooms are available if you decide to extend your stay. A nice, romantic getaway IMO.

Note: I came super close to catching the bouquet. So..so CLOSE!

Stayed there a few weeks ago, definitely a nice little gem. Had the ocean view right outside my window. Was great just to wake up, get a cup of coffee, and enjoy the view. The staff is very nice, the room was clean, the bathroom was neatly tiled, however the bed was ridiculously hard, and squeeky. I read the reviews before reserving, and had asked the staff how new they were, to which they replied were new. So, I agreed to book the room.... I soon found out apon arrival, they are the cheapest beds on the market. The other bad thing was the parking to the north...no spots left every night I got in after 9pm. Other than those 2 things, it was a reasonably priced, wonderful spot to stay. I recommend it, but will probably look elsewhere my next time to SD.

I love this hotel but everything outside the room. The pool. The French architecture. The sit outs. The ocean views. The very relaxing ambiance. Ofcourse we didnt do much staying indoors except to crash in for the night.

The hotel room, dont have much to say. The insides of the room compare to a best western. Old is the word for it.

But i would come back here if i had to. Everything else is amazing.

HEAVEN.
If I could select ten stars, I would. Husband and I stayed for comicon. What a beautiful retreat from all that chaos! The ocean is RIGHT there. I never wanted to leave. Beautiful grounds - all the roses! A heated pool. A deck with rocking chairs overlooking the waves. Your own little beach at the bottom of the steps. Wonderful people and everything you could possibly need right at your fingertips. It's a little efficiency: mini fridge, microwave, desk, bed, slammin' big glass shower, large closet - open the blinds, look at the manicured grounds, listen to the sea, smell the salt air, feel the cool breeze and love up on your honey! :) Ugh, I never wanted to leave! Gorgeous, accommodating, perfect. Will DEFINITELY stay here again. Thank you so much for a lovely, relaxing, amazing visit!

PLEASE READ: We are not hard to please nor do we nit-pick places. We stayed last Spring. The location is all this motel has going. Our room did not have a lock on the back door; merely a handle that would not lock. Told front desk, said it was a safe location, no apology, no compensation. Bathroom was typically dirty with hair and soap scum abundant. The dark tiles cleverly allowed liberal easy cleaning, apparently. Informed front desk! Nothing to say then or on checkout when I complained again; just a complacent "Ohh." Cheap paint and plants try to give a pseudo-Mediterranean appeal that does not work well. This is the big SD anyway. Any fine establishment would have made it right, right away. I would save your money and go to Pacific Palisades or another quality hotel and stay at a real resort and walk 20' to the beach, have adequate size room. I even called back to attempt a "second chance" for such a great location. Dont learn the hard way. This is a cheap motel with a view.

My husband and I got married at the Inn in early October.  Everything was perfect.  The staff and the coordinator, Gavin, were nice, professional, and easy to work with.  We loved the location right on the water and were also grateful that we could bring in our own vendors and make the day uniquely our own.  The grounds of the hotel are beautifully maintained and we have some great photos of us all around the inside and outside of the Inn.  If you are wanting a beach wedding, this is the perfect spot.

It's nothing fancy, but it's very clean, quiet and couldn't be in a cooler location. Right on the cliffs!  The beds are comfortable.  There's a cool area right next to the water with comfy chairs and some picnic tables and a little putting green.  Room was only $130.  Only a 15 minute walk to Newport where all the good food and bars are.

My husband and I stayed in the Presidential Suite for one night after our wedding at The Thursday Club. At a little over $500 per night it was a huge splurge for us, but obviously we wanted something special for that night. We had a wonderful experience. The view is the main draw of this room, not to mention the sound of the waves crashing outside. The spa tub in the room is super fun!

The staff also went above and beyond to clean the room immediately when the previous couple left so that I could check into the room and use it to get dressed for the wedding. Our friends and family stayed here and had nothing but positive feedback. You can't beat the location and views!

I absolutely LOVE this place. We had our wedding here and it was utterly perfect! We got married here on 09/07/13 and I wouldn't change anything about our fantastic day. Gavin (the hotel manager/events coordinator) was amazing and a pleasure to work with. He made sure the day went off without a hitch and took away any worry that we may have had. This is a great location to get married and have a reception at, everything is close by and the venue is so gorgeous that there really is not too much need for additional decorations. The staff is incredible and made my friends and family feel so welcome. If you are looking for a place to get married in OB, look no further, you couldn't find anything better than The Inn at Sunset Cliffs.  Thanks again guys for making our day better than we could have asked for!!

Amazing locations and grounds! I attend sunset yoga once a week and cannot believe the patio location overlooking the ocean. If you're traveling to San Diego you must stay here at least one night to enjoy the views and the amazing property!

Don't get me wrong- this is a SUPERB location!! Location, Location, Location is what this hotel is about. The view is amazing, we sat on their rocking chairs for over an hour just drinking beer and it was great! The hotel is very cute. Downers- the rooms are small- the door and bed have about a foot inbetween. And in our weeklong trip up the coast, this was our most expensive hotel night.
If you are about all day beach and ocean views, this is for you! We did walk into town and it wasn't that bad.

The view was great and hearing the waves crash against the cliffs wonderful.
The Inn itself is another story. We had a two bedroom suite that was somewhat shabby and in need of fresh paint and was definitely dated. The air conditioner did not work and others told us theirs did not work either. We had two bath towels for 5 adults and I child it was late when we discovered this and could not find anyone to ask for more...had to scrounge some from the pool area.
There is a rather steep ramp that leads from the pool area to the patio area near the cliffs that is a hazard in dry weather I cannot imagine what it would be like if it were only slightly damp. My husband fell going up the ramp when he came to the steps at the top...very bruised and this was during an event! The area was not lighted ...it WAS the next night
I would not stay here again

This is a beautiful place to stay. We got a two bedroom suite. It was very clean and comfortable. The views were breath taking from both bedrooms. You can easily hear the waves from inside and the patio is great for relaxing. We sat by the fire and enjoyed the stars and the sound of the ocean. We also walked along sunset cliffs during the sunset. It is my favorite place on earth.

I heard about this place a while back. I stayed in pacific beach for 4 months last summer and never got a chance to check it out. The exterior and garden in the middle are pretty damn amazing to say the least. Perfect lighting, the roses make you feel like youre in some kind of movie.
Not to confuse you with the fact that this is the same place from VM. For those Veronica Mars fans out there, this is the place she lived at the in show.
The rooms are nicely updated, I could wish for a larger TV though, those are pretty puny. The bed was soft (but squeeked like crazy) the pillows were soft as well. So I have to downgrade because of that. Its my personal preference to have a more firm bed, I do have back problems. So the softness and the softness of the pillows did not give me enough support. But like I said thats my personal preference.
The view was good, but I have also seen better, and stayed at better places and for less. Theres no real beach access, because theres no real beach right there. Service was good, their office is open 24/7 if you need anything. But I have stayed in places with much nicer views for better prices.

With no real beach access, an ok view, squeeky beds and small tvs and a bit higher in price that other places I have stayed...

Overall i can only give this place 3 out of 5 stars.

Another perfect week at the Inn at Sunset Cliffs. Gavin and crew took great care of us the whole time. Brought the little one to swim and play on the putt putt. Can't beat the view! Until next year (hopefully sooner)!!

I'm not sure how it got such good reviews... I guess I got stuck in the worst room.

I checked in kinda late after supercross on Feb 8th for $170 one night. The guy at the front desk had few words to say. Didn't say where to park or if there was breakfast... Nothing. I go to walk into the room and it's literally just a bed... Nothing else fits. And who's gonna use that tiny tv?! It's smaller than my computer screen. The early morning I was disturbed by people walking above non-stop. -this is the last thing you want staying in a hotel.

Okay, the place was clean and the view/location was 5 star. That's the only 5 star about it.

Oh AND the bed was a pos it was so squeaky I couldn't even roll over without it screeching at me.

Our friends recommended the Inn at Sunset Cliffs, but I initially discounted their enthusiasm. After two days, I am a big fan as well. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff are friendly and chill, the location is in the sweet spot between the Cliffs and OB activity. And the view is just...killer.

You can't beat the sound of the waves crashing in on the scenic cliffs, and the hotel is the perfect place to relax and watch a sunset or two. We spent two nights, and did what other guests were doing, enjoying a picnic, bbq or fire pit, with a bottle of wine and beers out on the scenic patio on their comfy deck furniture and watched the sunset show.
The front desk person was very helpful. He pointed out parking, coffee and tea in the lobby, free wifi, and ice machine, swimming pool and towels.
Even the smallest rooms downstairs have a fridge, microwave, a/c and all room have new flooring, updated decor and tile bathrooms, with nice bedding, and my favorite-coffee mugs and wine glasses, not plastic cups. The grounds are loaded with flowering plants and hanging baskets.
First floor rooms may be noisy from people walking overhead, but the 5 star location and crashing waves offset it. We walked to a restaurant less than a half mile on Sunset Cliffs Drive and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Fantastic location - right on the cliffs, ocean views, waves crashing, pelicans flying all around. They've done a really nice job landscaping, with tons of flowers, potted plants and rose bushes. A simple pool (heated) in the courtyard. Wish they had a jacuzzi! Service was very friendly and welcoming.

We stayed for one night for our anniversary in a 2-bedroom suite - 2 small bedrooms, living room, desk, and mini-fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Some ocean view from the living room and bedroom windows. We had a really nice stay. Enjoyed taking a dip in the pool, and hanging out on the ocean view patio, playing games, enjoying a glass of wine in the evening, an cup of coffee in the morning. We got a gift certificate for the room at a silent auction, but otherwise, $289/night + tax; pretty pricey. But, location, location, location.

Free yoga for guests on the deck overlooking the guests Thursday night ($14 for non-guests). They had a big turnout last night. Might have to come back and check it out.

Slept to the sound of the crashing waves (actually, didn't sleep too much - our bed was not comfortable; wish I'd tried out the one in the other room; it was much better). But overall, a very relaxing stay. Would definitely recommend it, especially for couples.

If you're looking to get away from it all, then the Inn at Sunset Cliffs may be your spot.

As the name would suggest, the Inn is located smack dab in the middle of the cliffs.  From the patio, which is surrounded by flowers and shrubs that are beautifully landscaped, you can view the staggering coast line, the ocean, and the pier at Ocean Beach.  The setting cannot be beat if you're looking for tranquility.

If you've had enough quiet time, then you're conveniently located just 20 minutes by foot from Ocean Beach and all that that neighborhood has to offer.  If you'd prefer not to travel by foot, there's a bus stop located about 1/2 a block away that will take you into OB, as well as around Point Loma.

So, location?  Five stars.  Hands down.

As for the inn itself, well, the bed may have been one of the most uncomfortable, squeaky things that I have ever slept on.  The mattress was so hard that I may as well have slept on the ground.  Uncomfortable bed aside, our room was very small, but also very clean.  We were happy to find that the A/C was a champ, you know, since we're from Denver and the high 60's felt sweltering in February.

So, the room?  Three stars.  Being generous because, really, those beds need to G-O.

All in all, the location was worth a less than great night's sleep and if I were to return to San Diego, I'd likely consider booking here again!

Had the perfect stay at the inn at sunset cliffs! The staff was very welcoming and accommodating to any request we had. We we're surprised to find out we were even able to fish right off their lower terrace. The sunsets we're beautiful, we even got some glimpses of dolphins in the distance.

We stayed in a one bedroom kitchen suite which was very clean and comforting, felt like we were staying in a little cottage. It was nice being able to cook out freshly caught fish and LOBSTERS right in our room or on the provided grill/BBQ. The property also has a heated swimming pool.

We were very pleased with the tranquil and romantic atmosphere while on our vacation to San Diego! We will be recommending this hotel and coming back again!

Probably the craziest check-in experience I've ever had... but in the best possible way!  My girlfriend and I were going through normal check-in procedures when one of the managers went into the back office to get some paperwork.  Before he came back, epic music started blasting in the lobby (think Lord of the Rings soundtrack)... next thing we know, the manager is walking back in to the main office with a microphone and starts MC'ing the "Sunset Cliffs Trivia Show".  Needless to say, we were totally confused, but surprisingly willing to play along with their game.

Long story short, we answered several questions correctly (while actually having a lot of fun with the game) and were rewarded with 10% off our bill (for life!)  At the end, we were also given the opportunity to select one of four envelopes, with each containing a different prize.  My incredibly luck girlfriend chose the envelope that upgraded us from our normal room to the Garvie suite for the night, at our original room rate. Basically, a $400 upgrade.  After the game was finished, we found out that we were the first people that they ever played this game with... I think it worked out pretty well for us :)

The Garvie Suite is their presidential suite that overlooks the ocean right above Sunset Cliffs, and it's really a great room.  It has a giant hot tub situated in between two sets of ocean-facing double french doors.  We left the doors open overnight and slept really well, with the ocean waves being the last sound we heard at night, and the first sound that we awoke to in the morning.  There is truly nothing better than falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean.

I can't thank the Inn at Sunset Cliffs enough for giving us such an incredible experience, and we are very grateful for the generous surprise that they rewarded us with. I hope to go back soon!
