Kings Inn was built by Atlas Hotels as a boutique property in the early 60's. Much of what was once cutting edge design now translates into retro charm reminiscent of family road trips and the old Route 66.

Budgeting sucks, but for a one night stay at this 'inn', it was ok.  It's really easy to find, just off of the 8 frwy.  The manager that checked us in was very nice, until he mentioned that they hold $25 for incidentals.  What?  I have never heard of that, ever, and I have stayed in a few motels.  My fiancé said it was normal but I didn't agree.  I thought they were doing that because I booked through expedia (came out to $67), but still had no clue.  The room was average, but clean.  Lots of places to put your stuff.  Tiny bathroom.  Our room was noisy because they stuck us by the elevators, and because most people that come back to their room at night, like 1-2am, are NOISY.  Please respect other people that are sick and tired and need their sleep.  There was tea and coffee in the lobby, and a few vending machines by the pool which came in handy.  The worst part was when I got up to leave in the morning, and the complimentary hairdryer broke as I turned it on.  I hate wet hair, especially when I do not feel good.  Not sure I will ever stay here again because I have stayed in much nicer places for cheaper prices.  Thankfully, they did not charge me the extra $25.

Def Not a 5 star hotel, but amazing for the price. We went during the in season from Monday-Saturday. I booked on the visit San Diego about a week before we went for $40/night, that included a full hot breakfast in the attached resturant. The pool and hot tub were closed for updating while we were there, so I have no comments about the pool. The rooms, however, were nice enough and clean enough. Bathroom was a bit small, but the beds were comfy. They also have cribs that can be requested, I have used a crib in 4 different motel/hotels now and this was by far the nicest crib. The staff is really helpful and friendly, they have pre-printed directions to ANYTHING you may need,  got them for Target. Location is great, 5 minutes from Old Town, Zoo, Sea World and maybe 10 from downtown and Coronado Island. Overall very pleased, we WILL be back!

We stayed at this hotel the night of March 7th, 2008, and our room was clean and basic, I had requested late check-in, king size bed, non-smoking.

Room rating: The room was clean, however, the bathroom was strangely small. I paid for a king sized bed and got a room with two queens. Despite the location of our room (right over the driveway, overlooking the freeway), it was relatively quiet and we were able to get a good night's sleep. I should also say, I was thankful for the room being non-smoking!

Staff rating: When I asked the chick who checked us in about not having a king-sized bed in the room, she informed me that "when you book online, you get what we have left." ummm, hmmm, okay, weird. Especially since my confirmation specifically said "King sized bed". Of course, it also says in small writing "we'll forward your requests to the property, but there's no guarantee the request will be honored." Nice. But it's the first time my request hasn't been honored. I always request king sized beds, because my husband is 6'6" and I am 5'11".

Here was another odd thing, when I was checking in, I went outside to get the license plate number for our car and I couldn't get back into the office because they had locked the door since it was after 11 PM. The chick who was helping me wasn't really paying attention, so there I stood, knocking on the door, trying to get back in to complete the check-in process. It just seemed to me that they could have either waited until everyone who was checking in were done or have the person who locked the door stand at the door until everyone was done. Plus, the chick who was checking me in was all pissy because whoever was supposed to be coming on shift was somewhere else taking a personal call on her cell phone. Wasn't my issue, so don't take it out on me!

Amenities: When we left in the morning, the pool looked lovely and I almost wished that we were staying there for the day. There was a little area underneath the stairs that looked like a nice place to gather for conversation or relaxing out of the sun.

Overall: This hotel was... okay, but odd. I don't know. I mean, I guess I'd stay there again, the price was right, but it was kind of a weird experience.

Kings Inn is the perfect lodging for any trip to San Diego. The rooms are clean,The Waffle Spot serves great breakfasts,and it's easily accessible to all of San Diego. If you want an inexpensive lodging in San Diego,this should be your first choice.

Spent a Saturday night here with a few friends because it was one of the cheapest places (AAA discount!) on Hotel Circle, and we were going to a convention next door. The room was clean and not too bad space-wise, but the bathroom area was pretty awkward - small and cramped. Then later we found out that the bath's drain was horrible, so we were wading in our own shower water....not very pleasant.

Parking wasn't too bad in the afternoon, but by nighttime we had to park in the surplus lot on the other side of the hotel because it was too packed in front of the rooms. But hey, it was free so I can't complain too much.

We ended up going to bed pretty late because of the convention activities and talking, and woke up at around 10:30 a.m. groggy and needing to pack. We tried calling the front desk and asking for an extra hour so that we could shower, pack, and clean up adequately, but they were incredibly firm about their 11 a.m. checkout time. I've never had that happen before, so that sucked, though I guess I understand they're on a schedule. I ended up doing my makeup in the car =\.

And my friends and I did end up getting the "amateur" pizza fliers, and now I'm slightly disturbed that we even got them, and especially that we did not know about the background behind them. Of course it was too suspicious to buy, so we didn't, but I would expect that the hotel would discourage or put a stop to that practice a heck of a lot more than they seem to be.

Despite the actual inn being kind of bleh, the Waffle Spot restaurant they have inside the hotel was pretty delicious! My boyfriend had some pretty good Eggs Benedict, and my waffle was cooked perfectly. It was definitely more than we expected from the outside, and a pleasant surprise!

So overall, two stars for the inn, one bonus star for the delicious waffles. Probably unlikely to stay there again, but I'd probably try another brunch if I'm in the area.

The King's Inn is a great budget hotel.  They usually have specials on and their prices are super low.  The rooms are clean and though the decor is kind of old, nothing looks worn or crappy inside.  The outside has a cook retro kitsch, the pool and hot tub are nice.  I would have liked to try the restaurant but I didn't have a chance.

Great little hotel!  We stayed there for Comic Con and it was perfect.  The hotel is a little outdated but it was clean and nice.  The staff were great and The Waffle Spot had a good breakfast.  Great location too!  I would go back!

we wanted a cheap but nice place to stay while we were in town and i ran across this place.  i saw the prices on all of the various search engine and decided to book directly from their website.  hint:  it's cheaper!

the place is opened - not enclosed in one building.  all rooms are accessible from the outside and not through the lobby like the usual hotels.  it's easy to find, right off the fwy.  the rooms are clean and decent size, but the bathroom is definitely small.  i like my beds firm but the ones here were a bit too firm.

I got what I paid for on the busy Labor Day weekend. Actually, I was lucky that this hotel offered one night stays instead of the minimum two night stays other places wanted. So, I paid $100.00 for one night on Expedia, and settled in, albeit a little early, for which I was charged $10.00. The normal nightly rate is about $67.00 I had a 3pm appointment to make and the CHECK-IN IS 4PM!  And, my room was ready!

Oh well. This motor inn in Hotel Circle was clean, well-appointed and the desk people were friendly and helpful. this is a 70's era hotel that has been well-maintained. The bathrooms are a little old, but clean and serviceable. There is a waffle place in the lobby, which, while nothing luxurious, hits the spot with good eggs and plenty of waffle choices. There is also a Mexican -themed restaurant , The "Amigo Spot" with bargain happy hour prices.

The pool area looked clean, but is probably not big enough for a packed hotel on Labor Day weekend.

Cheap, clean, with WIFI, swimming pool. Front desk receptionists have good manners. Shower water pressure is great. I have no complain except that the blanket is too thin. For the price that I paid, this is exceptional.

I had to go to SD for business and found pictures on the net of this place delightful so I stayed there. The staff are very pleasant. The room had holes in the wall. The towels are awful. They DONT change the sheets until you ask and then they still DONT change them until you ask again!!!!!!!! The highlight was when I arrived and was exhausted and decided to nap with a DO NOT DISTURB SIGN on the door...for the next 2 hours all I hear is clicking by the door...I thought it was rats only to get up and find 3 different pizza flyers where they hand forced fed  them thru the door!! Absolutely REDICULOUS!!!! The AC was awful. The room was sooooo old. I would not recommend. Save your money or better yet stay somewhere else! Please.

So we just got back from San Diego for a one day/night get away. The purpose of this trip was to go to the Dodger/Padres game which started at 5:30. The plan was to check in to the hotel, and head off to the game.
We attempted to check in at about 2:00 p.m. Attempt failed. The woman at the front desk informed me that check-in is at 4:00. She then informed me that rooms were ready, and that if I would like one to check in at that time, I could....for an additional charge of $10.00. I then showed her the confirmation email that was sent from the hotel that stated that they had "complimentary early check-in" When I pointed this out to her, she said that they in fact do not have complimentary early check in, and that email was a mistake.
I asked if they would honor the wording on the email, since that is a mistake on the hotels behalf. It was not my fault that the email contained incorrect information. The woman would not budge. She repeated that the policy is a $10 early check in. Needless to say I was disappointed that she would (a) not honor the email that was sent by the hotel (b) not be willing to provide us check-in even though there were rooms ready (c) had no problem with turning us away for a few hours which was an inconvenience to us, the customer.
After the game (after 10:30 p.m.) we returned to check in at the hotel. I don't plan on staying at this hotel again. The customer is always right definitely is not a motto they go by. Even when the information is printed, in black and white, by them.
There are TONS of nicer, more accommodating hotels in the area. The price is great here, unfortunately the customer service, poor business practice outweighs the price.

Clean, well run, and overall a solid deal for the price. I called around late at night for a place and this was the cheapest. Breakfast and dinner on the premises. I had an omelet which wasn't great but the convenience factor made up for it.

I read some reviews. Seriously?  It is one thing for a hotel to need updates and remodeling.  It is another thing for it to be dirty and disgusting.  I do not care how low the nightly rate is, the room should be clean.  Black mold in the shower.  Do I need to say more?

This is just about the first negative review I'm writing on Yelp and well deserved.  I had read the reviews previously before staying and I thought I knew what I was getting into.  I knew it was old and I didn't really expect a whole lot.  I knew that and I just wanted a decent place to sleep in for a couple of nights.  Well instead I got no sleep the first night I stayed here.  Unfortunately the walls are pretty much paper thin.  And unfortunately for us we had some really loud and obnoxious neighbors doing some things that I can't get into detail.  But you probably know what I'm talking about.  Now I can't blame the hotel for having crappy people stay here, but I can blame them for doing nothing about it.  I called the front desk and was told security would come up to resolve the situation.  Well they never showed and I just about got 1 hour of sleep.  I clearly made a bad decision staying here and the old saying still lives strong that "you get what you pay for".  Learned my lesson and won't ever waste my money at a place like this again.

Good for being on a budget.

I booked a room for the Kings Inn on Orbitz the morning of for $58 (came to about $70 after the fees) and that was for a Friday night.  

Location is great, every other reviewer has pretty much covered this.

The room was outdated, but most importantly clean with working plumbing and electricity.   Upon arrival we noticed a small sign that warned guests that they might find fliers under their room door advertising cheap pizza, but it's actually "garage pizza" that is made from amateurs and is not approved by the health department.  Sure enough our room had a cheaply made flier advertising 4 large pizzas for $10 urging the customer not to call from the hotel room phone.

Our back window was missing it's lock and someone could have easily broken in, especially if someone was able to walk around putting fliers under all the doors.  All the rooms were sold out so we couldn't move to another, but fortunately we were just staying for that night.

My fiancee who has become quickly accustomed to 5 star hotels joked around saying the place resembled the room from that terrible movie "Vacancy," but we didn't end up in a snuff film so not that bad.  Overall, you get what you pay for so I had no problem with it.

I don't give this hotel three stars because they did anything wrong I give them three stars because they are a solid three star hotel.  I've stayed here various times over the years.  Me and my husband stayed here on a last minute San Diego weekend getaway and got a hotel room at the last minute.  They ladies at the front desk were nice and our room was clean and neat.  They are in the processes of remodeling their old rooms and we clearly got one that had been recently done.  I'd recommend saying here and we will be back next time we need a decently priced hotel room for a night or two.

So many of my childhood memories are of swimming in the kidney-shaped pool at this hotel. Every summer my parents and I would spend a week in San Diego, using Kings Inn as our home away from home.

Rooms are clean. Pool is clean. It's pretty solid.

It's good for families as it's a fair distance from many of the city's big attractions.

Terrible customer service by the front desk.  Got my room cheap I mean cheap from expedia.  Got here 2:40 PM was told "early check in is from 11 to 3 PM it is an extra $10.  Hmm, funny we stayed here about a month ago and no one said a thing when we checked in an HOUR early.  So I go get a soda, and come back at 3.  Now the lady says she has no rooms available.  20 minutes earlier she "had a handful" of rooms available if I paid $10, now she has none.  Oh, and "we guarantee by 4 we will have a room ready.  It is on our website"  So I call expedia to complain, and they call the hotel, who will not refund my money, but will now extend me the courtesy of early check in, but now it is 3:45 PM so wow thanks for nothing.  Then to top it off they try to buy me off with a "goodie bag" of a shaver, crackers, and lotions.  What a crock don't stay here folks.  I won't again.

The staff is so friendly, the rooms are clean and well kept! The premises are great! It has a really nice pool and patio area.
A very comfortable stay with no problems at all.

And on the plus side, their breakfast was amazing!

This place is in dire need of a makeover.

The beds are hard, the walls are extremely thing and the heater is super loud with the thermostat hardly working, it smells funny and is a place I'd never stay again.

I got this hotel via Priceline - I'm pretty sure I overpaid.

I absolutely love this hotel.We stayed for two nights while visiting sea world. It's about 8 minutes away by car. I came in, not expecting much for what I paid, but was pleasantly surprised by everything. The check-in was easy, the rooms were clean, and there was a heated pool and jacuzzi (which we didn't get to use). There are two restaurants in this joint: The waffle spot, which seems to have it's own little cult following, and the Amigo Spot, which a quaint little mexican restaurant/bar. Happy hour from 4pm-7pm. I didn't have the food, but the drinks were well made. The first morning, we ate at the waffle spot. They do an egg waffle benedict which is ingenius! Instead of an english muffin, they used waffles. It was beautifully made and I was extremely pleased. When you stay at the hotel, they give you a 10% discount. The bed was very comfortable. The sheets were soft and they gave you plenty of pillows. The shower was always hot and you do get a nice flat screen TV in your room. Although, we did have a hard time navigating through the TV system. It never told you what the channel was and we couldn't find the TV guide (the printed one didn't seem right). But that wasn't really important. They do have mini-fridges available for $5 a night and microwaves for $10 a night. They also offer room service! This surprised me a little, but  they'll bring you drinks, breakfast, lunch, or dinner, which is awesome. The only downside I would really have to this hotel is that it does need a good renovation in the lobby. It looks a bit dated and unappealing. But if asthetics don't mean anything to you, this is a wonderful, inexpensive option that is close to everything! I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

So this is my 2nd time staying at this hotel. We came here last minute after finding roaches in the other hotel we originally booked for. I had a pretty good experience the last time I was here so I decided to come back. I would have to say my experience this time is MUCH better than my last experience. And my last experience was pretty good so this must mean my experience was great this time. The room I had this time was much better than the last room I stayed in. The bathroom was for the disabled so it was pretty big. Much bigger than the last room I stayed in. The room itself was pretty big too. The TV was working great. The only complaint was the rooms were so cold even with the heater on and the blankets are so thin that you're freezing the whole night. I should have asked for extra blankets but I got lazy and didn't. So that's my fault. The waffle spot has pretty good breakfast too. Free Wi-Fi and pet friendly! $15/night extra for a pet.

This is a two-star motel with good service.  

Front desk was friendly and prompt.  They have discounted Zoo tickets too.

Room looked old, bed could be better, wifi was slow.

But hey, I don't think this place is supposed to be great.  It's a place we can get when we can't get somewhere better.

They are losing one star for three reasons. 1. They have become one of THOSE hotels who tell you that if you use your Triple A discount, it will cost you more. 2. The mattress seemed really thin this time around, sleeping was kind of painful. 3. The person at the front desk told us the pool was heated to 80 degrees. I was in it, I don't believe that! Brrrrrr cold!  

Still a good place to stay if you want a reasonable rate.  By the way, the manager gave us some inside scoop- if you call in your reservation, you'll get a better rate than if you buy on-line.

The staff was kind, helpful, and friendly. The room was clean. However, the lobby needed a good cleaning, as did the bar counter and registration counter. The Wafle chicken must please children, but wasn't necessary to my stay. I had quacamole & chips at happy hour: bland & tasteless. Inexpensive hotel, needs Mr Clean, but lovely staff.

I was looking for a last minute (literally same day change of plans) inexpensive hotel near my family for my husband and I.  The absolute BEST thing about this hotel is the staff.  They remained courteous and professional throughout my stay and I did have a few issues.  That more than anything else goes a long way with me.  I can't say enough good things about the staff from the front desk clerks on up to the Asst. Regional Mgr. of this hotel who was onsite the entire week.  They were always courteous and professional.  About the hotel - ASK FOR A ROOM AWAY FROM THE POOL.  The hotel sold out every night we were there (August).  There is a lot of activity around the pool.  The hotel is noisy enough to begin with.  Especially in the early morning.   Looking at these other reviews about bed bugs as recent as 8/5/13??, not my experience.  The room was clean, linens were crisp, no old bedspreads you fold up and stick on a shelf not knowing how long it's been since they've been washed.  Beds are hard though.  Dated - absolutely and the shower water pressure was probably the biggest disappointment.  Barely able to rinse shampoo from my hair but I've had that in much more expensive hotels as well.  As the saying goes "you get what you pay for".  If you don't want to hear the sound of people going in and out of their rooms in the early morning; car doors; people talking while walking up and down the corridors and stairs, then stay at a more expensive hotel where the walls are thicker and both the stairs and parking aren't right outside your room. ASK FOR A ROOM THAT'S NOT DIRECTLY AT THE TOP OF A STAIRCASE!  $94 night CHEAP RIGHT and I see in the other reviews some people paid as low as $50 night.  $50 night with FREE PARKING AND WI-FI.  That's a DEAL.  Some of the hotels in the area are charging $15 night for parking.  Personally, I'd rather pay the extra money for the softer bed, better water pressure, and much quieter atmosphere.  Lastly, there is a coffee shop in the lobby, the Waffle Shop.  GREAT breakfast though sorry to say I never tried their waffles.  The wait staff once again was AMAZING.  So much so you can't help it if you're a big tipper like me but to tip 25-30%. LINDA is our favorite!!!

Front desk girls are nice, but the beds...my gosh. Like sleeping on a wood plank. Everything else was great except for the uncomfortable bed. Anna was the best!! She was the front desk girl. She helped us with restaurant recommendations and the best beaches.

Stayed here twice in Oct 2011, once through Hotwire and the second time I called and reserved a room directly though the hotel. The Hotwire price was better than the hotel price, but if you don't want to risk using Hotwire and ending up at a different hotel in this area of San Diego just call the front desk -- when I made my reservation through them directly they were almost able to match the Hotwire price.

Kings Inn was clean and well kept. It's a basic hotel/motel. Rooms open to the outside and many overlook the pool. The grounds are really well kept and the pool area is nice -- I'm picky about what hotel pools I'll use (they're usually gross) but the Kings Inn pool was sparkling clean. The room was a little dark, but ok. Came with a small TV, 2 double beds, table and 2 chairs. Bathroom had a full tub/shower and toilet. Vanity area was outside the bathroom and well lit. Room had AC and heat digitally controlled by a thermostat, so you could set the temp rather than turning it on or off for the night. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I ate a both restaurants at Kings Inn -- the Waffle Spot and the Amigo Spot. The Waffle Spot was great for diner-style breakfast, the Amigo Spot was ok but there is better and cheaper Mexican food in San Diego if you're willing to drive a couple miles.

Perks were that parking was free and wi-fi was free. I've stayed at other hotels in the Hotel Circle area of San Diego in the same price and rating range as Kings Inn that charged $8 or more for parking per day.

The price was great, the room was clean, but with an overwhelming smell of must and mold. our view out the window was a fence, so at least there was privacy. our door opened under the stairs so there was no natural light, and the lightbulbs  were hotel standard minimum wattage. I felt i was being punished for having negotiated a good price for the room. The staff was friendly, even though few spoke english, but they found me someone who did to bring a blanket. because the parking and wifi were free, i just have to accept the fact that i got what i paid for...very little. we also asked for a king size bed,  but got two queens which made the room  feel very small. the broken tile in the bathroom did concern me for fear of mildew.

stayed here for a 1 night stay in SD. Not very big rooms but not small either, enough to sleep in but not for a long stay. Bed sheets and room interior needs some updates, along with the TV.  Hotels accommodates with morning calls, iron, free lil shampoo bottles and easy parking. Also, there's a shared pool, closes at 10 pm tho.

Yeah it was cheap, but at what cost people?  My dignity, thats what cost.
My friend had to MacGyver the entire bathroom to work while we were there.  We should have charged THEM for the room.  We let it slide because it was attached to the Waffle Spot and because really we weren't there to spend time in the room!  Oh yeah, we were also asked to keep the noise down at 5pm.  5pm!  Ok fine, we were loud...but it was 5!

I didn't believe the hub when he said this was a 2 star hotel. Yep... so I checked it up. And he was right, dangit!

Okay, so for a 2 star hotel, this is fine. Free parking, free wifi (slow), free pool usage and discounts off the zoo. Layout of the room was fine, tv worked, had good toiletries out for you also. Friendly staff too.

But personally, I don't like these hotels... outdated and the mattress was way thin and springy. I didn't sleep very well. And our room was right next to the pool area so I could hear all the kids yelling and also the people walking by our room to the parking lot.

And beacuse it was labor day weekend, the charge was $80/night.

I'm in SD kind of long-term, so I was looking for a place my dog and I could stay. We stayed there a number of nights, but their prices kept changing from week to week, there's no kitchen, and all pet rooms are on the bottom floor, and as much patience as I try to have with noisy neighbors, I can only take stomping on my ceiling for so long. So we found another place where I can stay on the top floor for about 60% of KI's rate. But in any case it's pretty clean, the TV works, I never had a problem with windows not opening, the beds were pretty comfortable, the rates are decent for SD, the area is safe, ffree wi-fi, the coffee in the lobby is actually really good, and the people behind the desk were always nice and helpful. I'd go back, but probably not long-term.

Travelling for 2 months holiday, staying only in hotels, we look for reasonably priced, very clean and comfortable accommodation, with King bed, non-smoking, preferably no pets, and secure wi-fi. We try to pay no more than $100/night - here we paid just over $50 + tax.

AAA a presented Kings Inn with 2 red gems - this rating understates this hotel. The reception staff are incredibly helpful. The restaurant meals and staff excel themselves and genuinely care for teh quality of the guest's experience.

The room cleaning/servicing staff do a great job - the management have trained and supervise them well.

Located in Hotel Circle, Kings Inn is conveniently located to all the freeways and tourist destinations in the area. Overall, our stay was pleasant and comfortable. I'd stay here again for the great price and service we received.

This hotel was disappointing. Originally I had booked a room at a hotel down the street but opted for kings inn because it was much cheaper and my mom was also staying there during our vacation. Bad decision. When we walked into the room, it was all humid and dinghy feeling and the floor was gross and moist. Within 5 minutes of being in the room, our feet were completely black. We were on the bottom floor so when the people above us took a shower it sounded like we were in the middle of a construction zone. We have a 1 year old, so I called and asked for a crib. They didn't bring it until over 2 hours later and didn't bring a crib sheet or anything. When I called the front desk, I was told they don't have crib sheets but that there should be extra blankets in the dresser. There weren't any extra in our room so they had to bring us some of those too. Its in a good location, but its definitely not a quality hotel. I wish I would have splurged a little and gone with a nicer hotel. This one was disappointing to say the least, but it could have been worse.

Umm ... don't go here unless you have no other cheaper options!

The windows were sealed shut.  I'm pretty sure this this is against the law, not to mention that it's very unsafe!  The carpeting on the floor was wet.  Not sure what caused this, but I'm sure that it had something to do with the slight drizzling in the area before we even got to the hotel.  The bathroom layout was "interesting" to say the least.  The bathroom door opened inward, like it should, but if someone is sitting on the toilet with the door unlocked, he/she will get their left leg smacked by the door by someone else wanting to use the bathroom.  There was an intermittent noise throughout the night that sounded like light tapping in the ceiling.  Maybe this was caused by water dripping through the roof (?).  I know it wasn't a human making the noise, because I was on the 2nd floor, and there isn't a 3rd floor at this place.

I'm a heavy sleeper, I was dead tired, and didn't feel like traveling any farther since I got here when it was drizzling and already 2am.  Had it been much earlier, I'm sure I wouldn't have spent the night here.  Oh, plus this room was booked at the last minute through one of the internet sites at a low price, and I knew I was just going to sleep and shower here.  Don't you make the same mistake ...

This Hotel is very nice for the price and age. This is our second time coming here for Tiki Oasis. We spent the two before at the Crowne Plaza but it was really expensive and I didn't really feel that we got the bang for our buck.... But here at Kings Inn I feel it's definitely worth it! The Motel 6 had reviews of bed bugs 2 years ago.... I just can't trust or risk that chance..  Kings Inn - all the way!  

This Hotel has definitely an older look with silly old fashioned headboards and funny curtains above the bed but there is brand new CLEAN carpet!!! Everything is clean, no bugs, no gross anything.

I usually have to clean dirt and grime off remotes in hotels but this remote was spotless. The flat screen and cable is clear and perfect. Also, the Air Conditioning is brilliant but it takes a half an hour to get down to 68° but worth the wait! Just close the curtains and turn on the button to three little fans NOT the econ settings.

The bathroom is also clean. The only thing I'd gripe about is the tiny bathroom with tiny towels... So, I bring my own towels. I WISH they had some kind of curtain divider at the closet/sink area so people could change and have privacy. It's too small in the bathroom to change comfortably and no mirror so that would be a plus!

Also, it would be nice to have a mini fridge and also I hate the mirror in front of the bed. Lol it seems really pervy.

The pool area, restaurants & vending machines are nice! The Mexican restaurant has a great happy hour menu with live music on the weekends. Also, there is a popcorn machine & we've never had to pay for chips and salsa... There is a long line at the waffle restaurant so be aware.

Also know that in the afternoon around 3pm there will be a pizza flyer tossed into your room via the side of the door... This can be startling if you don't know what's making the loud noise. For such a little paper it's loud. I wish they'd just leave the flyer in the room from the start!

Overall, nice hotel with friendly service!

Bed bugs, hard bed, smelly, small bathroom and did I mention bed bugs??? We stayed here two nights because it was close to sea world, which it was...only perk. My sister and I tried to go in the jacuzzi but had to wait an extra 30 minutes because they were maintaining the pool within pool hours. I do not recommend this place at all. I'd rather drive further to my final destination than get bitten by bugs.

I've stayed here before and felt it was an alright place to stay so I booked it for a night. However my second time staying there wasn't so great. Some main points:
They don't actually have AC year round even though they say they do. Since the weather in San Diego is constantly changing it was 79 degrees in our room at the time the didn't have the coolers for the AC on so it was  uncomfortable.
Also we decided to try out their restaurant for margaritas and the drinks had way too much syrup and I believe no alcohol and I got a headache from all the margarita sweet mix. Plus the restaurant service was not very good.
Lastly everything was a little outdated. I guess that may not be a huge issue.

The only good thing really was the price. The price was ok to fair, but I don't know if I would go back again. I feel like their website is misleading to what they really have.

What a unique little gen.

This is what I was asking for, a cheap, clean hotel.

Kings delivers. The rooms are clean. They don't offer you a whole lot, simple older TV that is slow to change channels, no coffee maker (but free coffee in the lobby), old digital alarm clock/radio. The grounds are well maintained and littered with vending machines. Who doesn't need nutter butters and coke at 2 am.

I will say the food is also splendid.

The biggest downfall of this place is the clientele it brings. The clientele tends to be a little rougher than normal and younger. Think of a Vegas crowd at Imperial Palace.

So we had a fun day at universal Studios and then drove to San Diego, we arrived around 10 PM and were really tired. I had  already called them early that day to inform  we will be checking in late. We had booked 2 King bedrooms. Upon arrival, they said that no King bedrooms were available, which was not OK since we had booked those and already informed them about our late check in. But we were tired to argue so we accepted 2 Double queen bedrooms. They put a charge of $50 per room on the card as deposit which they say will be refunded within a week after checking out.

We went to our rooms, the rooms were clean. But I almost walked into the mirror which reflects the tiny bathroom. After settling, I noticed a door in our room. I opened it and there was another door which a lady opened from her room. we both gave an awkward smile and closed the doors. There is a lock on the door but if you don't check it (lock it), then anybody from the other room can get in yours. We put a chair against the door. We were so tired that I was looking forward to crash on the bed. But the bed was so hard, I have slept in motels before, but this was so bouncy and hard, instead of feeling refreshed in the morning I ached all over.

I only gave it 2 stars is because it was clean and close to the location (sea world). There are tons of hotels/motels next to this. It's called Hotel Circle because all the hotels/motels are lined next to each other. I would not stay here again.

PS:  Also at night you don't get parking inside the inn but they do have an additional open parking lot.

Very clean and comfortable - this is a place you go to hang your hat when you have a full schedule. It's the third oldest hotel in Hotel circle but they've done a good job od updating it and keeping it from feeling creaky. The pool is great and for the number of rooms it's pretty quiet. Staff is very accommodating. The Waffle Spot on site breakfast spot is supposed to be very good, but they have a very bizarre seating system, insuring you won't get a seat under 30 minutes on a busy morning. The Amigo Spot is a fine choice for dinner, great drinks and satisfying Mexican favorites. We stayed here during Tiki Oasis weekend, at the Crowne Plaza, and there was always a shuttle but to take us back and forth. or family's on a budget, you don't have to suffer Le Hotel de Crackhouse, King's Inn may not be fit for royalty, but it will do a member of his court just fine.

Well, this place is my own personal hell. Please don't be fooled by the decent-good reviews of this dump like I was. This place is a shit hole trapped in 1967. First of all, we were promised a room with one King sized bed, and like all of the others who have written reviews before me, we did not get that room. Instead they gave us a room with two Queen sized beds, assuring us that "there were no more Kings left". I'm beginning to see a trend here. Perhaps they don't have any of those rooms. Anywho, we are taken to our room, which is popcorn walled and and curtained with draperies that are so outdated I fear they have never been washer. The beds are the worst things ever too. Most uncomfortable beds of all time. After two days of traveling, my boyfriend and I just wanted ONE night of a good sleep and a nice long bath. I go to fill up the bath tub..no bath stop. Seriously. We call the front desk and they send a handy man who has to come to our room twice with different random bath stops he had found who knows where, but to no avail. We call the desk again hoping with the hope of 1,000 angels' baby breaths that they will just let us leave without a charge so we can stay at a DECENT place (I mean..this dump makes The Howard Johnson look like the good damn Ritz) but nope. Even though we've only been here for ten minutes and haven't even sat on the bed we would still have to pay 60$. So we are moved to a different, yet identically jarring and ugly room, but this time with a--sit down for this one--a bath stop! We are feeling like King's now, with our fancy bath stop.

The bottom line is this place is a dump with ugly rooms, horrible beds, pathetic bathrooms, paper thin walls (we could hear the nasty old couple next door getting it on early this morning), and dirty everything. We got no sleep and left itching to GTFO. For being in San Diego, one of the most beautiful places on earth, you feel like you're in a small, sad, meth-ridden town. This is a NO. Spend 20 more bucks and stay somewhere else.

I have no complaints about this place   it was very reasonable.  Stayed for one nite. Staff was helpful, nice and professional. Yes the room was  outdated. Sort of. Its just because its an older hotel. But the room had a flat screen 32 inch tv. The air conditioner worked great it had updated digital controls. So I turned that puppy all the way down to 60 degrees!! Room had a refrigerator which worked very well. No microwave. Had an ironing bored. Iron and a hair dryer. The carpet was clean  the walls were intact and no paint chipping anywere.  The bed was comfortable.   Bathroom was okay. It was small but the shower tub was nice. Water had good pressure and water temperature was good.

Stayed here for one night. I should have just paid an extra $30 for a better hotel. Everything was fine when we arrived; they gave us coupons for both their restaurants and the pool looked well kept. The customer service was mediocre but I didn't expect it to dazzle me.

The bed was probably the most uncomfortable bed my boyfriend and I had ever slept on; we were both waking up throughout the night. Then around 8am in the morning, the ladies on the cleaning crew were yelling at one another for a good hour. It was really annoying.

Check-out is 11am.

This is our second time staying here, and we really enjoy it - it's become a staple in our San Diego visits.  It's one of the best values we've found for the money - it's in a convenient location, and the amenities are well cared for (we love the pool and Jacuzzi) ....not to mention the free parking and wifi.  The rooms are clean and basic - which is fine since we spend such little time in our rooms when we come to San Diego.

The staff has always been warm and welcoming; we called ahead to tell them about our midnight arrival, and they were more than accommodating.

The onsite restaurants are fast and reasonably priced, but the hotel is surrounded by countless eateries  - most within walking distance or short drive.  There are limitless choices.

Kings Inn is consistently clean, the staff is friendly - and the location and price make it our first choice for every visit to San Diego.

This hotel has been our "go to" when traveling through San Diego. The staff has always been friendly, and we have seen them handling strange and irate (for no good or apparent reasons) guests with a calm demeanor.

To start, this is one of the least expensive places in the area, so you might expect it to be a bit below your standards, but the rooms have always been clean and full of nice and clean furniture.

The central yard has a very large pool and hot tub which are always enjoyable. There are also attached restaurants for breakfast (the Waffle Spot) and dinner (the Amigo Spot) for which they give you a 10% discount.

The ONLY complaints for this place are the lack of a mini-fridge in the rooms (which is not all that necessary on the vast majority of our stops) and the occasional strange clicking sound we have heard from the roof of the second floor rooms.

Nothing in this area and price range comes close to King's Inn.  Yes, it's dated, but my room was quiet clean and well maintained.   The staff were friendly and all the stuff I wanted included (wifi, fridge, etc) was included.   If I were paying $150+ for a room, I might expect a little more, but for under $100 this place was a gem.

My only actual complaint is that the shower head was very low for a tall person.  Also, try to get a room not on the side by the highway (which I was able to do), so you don't have to listen to traffic.

We ended up here after booking a "secret" hotel through Expedia at a very low price. Staff is very friendly, rooms are clean, beds are comfortable, pool is heated and hot tub was perfect after a day at the zoo. Close to attractions, and Waffle Spot was great for breakfast. It's not a fancy hotel but for the price it was great.

For the price the hotel was definitely worth it. My boyfriend and I just stayed one night. The 2 ladies at the front desk were very sweet and helpful and just friendly. The location is great, right by the 8w/e, the beds were comfy enough, the ac and tv worked and that's all that matters. My only complaint is the shower, the shower head vibrated and was very loud and the water pressure was almost nonexistent, also the bottom of the tub was very slippery and that made me nervous. We will be back again I'm sure, next time we'll try to waffle place!

i've been lagging hard on putting a review for this place, but here it is. my gf and I stayed here a few months ago for a weekend getaway and we were both impressed. not only did we get a good deal, but we also stayed in one of their new remodeled rooms which was pretty cool and modern. the beds were comfy, bathroom was clean and also had a new look. the inn was also not far from downtown or old town so that was a plus. my gf and i both agreed that the kings inn is our to go to

Great place to stay. Excellent service. Room service saw my daughters stuffed animals tucked in to bed when we left. When we came back, they were neatly cuddled together on the pillow. The little thoughtful things the staff did was what made this an enjoyable stay. We look forward to staying here again when we make our trip back to San Diego.

King? I dunno, maybe Princes Inn.  Not quite King Status at this spot.

930pm, i call directly to the Inns phone and get a price quote for a room for the (K)night---$70.

945pm, i go on Priceline and check prices for hotels in the Hotel Circle area.  Oh look! $52 for....the Kings Inn! Hmmmmm.  Sounds great!

10pm, i roll in to the lobby and tell the woman about the $52 on Priceline.  She says "no".  I proceed to show her my cellular device with the Priceline quote, and, much to her disbelief, there it was, $52 for the (K)night! She looks it up on Priceline and after a minute or two of negotiation, ive got a key in my hand for a $52 room for the (K)night.

Bottom line:  take the 5-10 minutes to check Priceline for a cheaper rate, negotiate with the keyholder and get a halfway decent (cheap) room for the (K)night!

Heads givin this spot 5 stars? Trippin! Its 3.  Pretty clean, pretty quiet, pretty fairly priced, but the reality is, i dont think a King would approve of any more than a Knight or two at this "Inn".

Would definitely recommend. Stayed here 3 nights on vacation for about $60/night. Rooms (and bathrooms - always a deal breaker for me) are clean, no trouble with customer service.  The furnishings look caught in between some renovations as the new ones (bed, desk, drawers) look nice and modern while some of the old ones (curtains & lamps) are a little more questionable (you can probably look at the pictures)... but not at all dirty or moldy, just a bit out of style :)

Overall I'd definitely stay here again! Nothing to complain about. Deserves 5 stars for the price it cost.

Just got back from mini vacay with my boyfriend. .. recently getting renovated with parking lot re asphalted rooms updated with an amazingly comfortable bed lol we slept so soundly the first night we almost missed our trip to San Diego zoo and as an added bonus received a cute present of Valentine's Day cookies and candies when we came back from sea world. .. very affordable for 4 days and 3 nights with two restaurants on site ...highly recommend

In town for the weekend, we were looking for reasonably priced accommodations in the area. I found a great deal on Kayak and since I've stayed here in the past, we decided to stay here.

We booked through Hotels.com .  It was the cheapest and close to Old Town.  We had two queen sized beds.  It was comfy. The room was clean.  They have free Wi-fi.  You have to log in every time but the signal was strong in the room.  The internet speed was pretty fast. The decor was a little dated but we spent most of the time asleep. The shampoo/conditioner combo they supplied although the bottle was way small (big enough for one person with short hair.  Not a prob cause we brought our own. Just thought I'd mention it). The shower had an S extender - my 6'4" partner didn't need to duck to get his hair wet!  The room has a fridge with a little freezer area!  We went down to the hot tub.  It was way chlorine-y but that's understandable.  The water wasn't hot enough but it was hot and relaxing.  They gave us extra towels for the pool/ hot tub.  I didn't see what was in the vending machines but I saw them (and the ice machine).  They provided an ice bucket in the room. Also there's a one cup coffee maker.

What a hidden jewel! I stayed at the Kings Inn a week ago because I was passing through town and didn't want to spend a lot of money on a hotel. I also wanted to be safe. King's Inn provided everything that I needed!

I got a King sized bedroom for $64 (they honor AAA!). The room was dated, but very clean. The bathroom gives you a full sized standard tub, sink, and hair dryer, but there's not a lot of room. That was fine by me since I just needed a place to shower and sleep.

Room was quiet, and the hotel is in a central area right off of the freeway, so you are a hop, skip, and jump from just about any location. Plenty of places to eat and go out. And if you don't want to go far for breakfast, there is a pancake place literally in the lobby area.

The cons were that there was a lot of noise the next morning in the parking lot. (The guys were doing some kind of cleaning) It was not even after 8am. The other con is that they do require a credit card (for incidentals), even if you are paying cash.

Other than that, well worth the $64!

This hotel has been or is in the process of being renovated.  We apparently arrived after the renovations because we did not smell anything foul in the room, the carpet was quite clean and there were no bed bugs (referencing other reviews).  

We arrived on a Monday to spend 3 nights there in checking out the various attractions which are very close to this motel.  That is one of the things that make this hotel so great, it's awesome location.  

Yes, the bathroom is quite small but it was very clean.  The bathtub had obviously been re-coated, which was nice because it didn't have that old, worn-out look to it and there was not a single spot of mold or mildew to be found (we stayed in room 243).  New ceramic floor tiles and it even had a heat lamp in the ceiling.  

There was a mini fridge, though no microwave or coffee pot.  The 2 queen beds were firm but comfortable enough. Yes, the pillows are small, but that didn't bother me.  The central AC worked quite well and I far prefer that to those window units.  We did not get eaten alive by bed bugs as other reviews have stated this place has.  I'm not saying they didn't experience that, just that the room we stayed in did not have them.  

The pool and jacuzzi are both huge.  The entire property is kept clean.  They do not have a continental breakfast, a bit of a drawback.  Their 2 restaurants are a bit pricier than I wanted to pay for, but the Waffle Spot restaurant is really good though over priced.  The Amigo whatever restaurant is not that great and their margaritas are terrible.  Gross, actually.  I would not recommend their mixed drinks to anyone and the food is nothing wonderful but some of it is good.  

Per the reviews of other hotels in the area, great, have at them.  If you can get into the Marriott for 73 per night, please let me know how you did that.  There is a Motel 6 down the road which is a literal whore-house, the worst motel I have ever stayed at.  There is  Howard Johnson's that had bad reviews (the paper thin wall reviews got me looking elsewhere).  Much of the other hotels in the area are the pricey chains and you really cannot compare the Kings Inn to them at all.  For the price, this place rocks, really.  

We slept very well and that's the point of a motel. Get a good night's sleep and then go about your business.  I met a lady that is actually living there - her condo had been burned down by a large company's workers who had been installing something. She had her choice of whatever hotel she wanted to stay at and opted for this place over several of the much pricier hotels in the area.  That speaks volumes in itself.

I am writing this while laying in bed here.

All in all, I like this hotel. The front desk staff is super accommodating, and we just enjoyed a great breakfast at The Waffle Spot.

The rooms are a bit dated, but very clean and comfortable. The area is fairly nice as well. The pool and hot tub are very nice and so is the landscaping.

The only negative is that its not a close walk to anything. As long as you have a car, its a great place to stay. All in all, I would definitely stay here again.

I stayed here with my family for three nights in an upper level room across from the pool, complete with a TV and a fridge. We were out during most of the day and it served its purpose as a clean place for us to sleep. There are no microwaves in the room, but hot water and complimentary coffee/tea can be found in the lobby, along with brochures for San Diego attractions. Rooms were cleaned daily, but you should bring your own shampoo if you are staying multiple nights or with multiple people because the supplied shampoo and soap is very little. Guest washing machines/dryers are available.

Pros: overall clean room, convenient location close to Mission Beach and downtown, good deal at a good price, friendly staff

Cons: not the cleanest carpet (wear sandals), A/C turns on and off on its own, not the strongest shower head but it works, can sometimes hear people when they are being loud

We were vacationing in San Diego for two days and then driving up the coast to San Francisco. This hotel was going through a remodel, but our room had already been done. It was very clean and loved that it was updated. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub. When I visit again I will be sure to look up this place an stay again. Loved that you had two places to eat within the hotel.

Stood here at the Kings Inn a couple of nights and enjoyed our stay! It's Clean, convenient, and perfect spot! There's a couple restaurants within the hotel, "Amigo Spot" and the "Waffle Spot!" I actually enjoyed both places! Not the best Mexican food, but not bad either! The breakfast was really good, best Waffles I've ever tasted! Would stay again because the price is right!

I travel a lot and when I need to stay in a hotel in San Diego, I always choose Kings Inn Hotel when ever possible. The front desk is helpful and courteous, there are two restaurants on site and the internet is lightning fast, oh and no charge for using it.

The hotel is undergoing a remodel and the new rooms are sooooo beautiful. Perfectly appointed, gorgeous bathrooms with tub and cable TV.

Everything is close by and I always get a great nights' sleep on the king sized comfy bed!

Room Tip: The rooms on the east side of the hotel have wonderful balconies. I recommend those!

I was a regular at the Kings Inn. I recently was going to stay there when I had the manager Ana treat me with a smug attitude. Very quick to dismiss me. I will never stay there again . Customer Service should be a priority for this establishment.

This was my first time staying here and the rooms are what you expect for a motel. The rooms were clean, had a refrigerator, and the AC was awesome. The pool was fantastic, but what I really enjoyed was the amazing staff. Jacob at the front desk was more than professional and the staff at the Spot were just as professional. I will definitely stay here again.

This was the very fist hotel I have ever stayed in without any supervision. Yes, at the tender age of 17 I was staying in a hotel..WITHOUT AN ADULT!! Quite a large deal if you ask me.

Sure, the beddings and draperies were completely outdated; the salmon colours and hunter green bedding with lily pattern flowers reminds me of an old grandmother's cottage. The bed itself was actually quite comfortable and had plenty of pillows to follow after a long visit around town. The bathroom had a good sized tub and of course, provided toiletries as needed. It appears as they had replaced their old box TV to some flat screens but at the time I visited the large flat box TVs were 'in'. You could possibly guess my age by this crucial little detail. Their pools however are actually quite large; one is heated and one is cold. From what I remember, the price for a weekend stay was almost $120 for 3 days/2 nights so this was quite the bargain for a young high school girl. The concierge at the front were very professional, and respected me and my guests in courteous matter even as we were clearly young to be traveling solo anyway. Unfortunately, this hotel is away from the fun of San Diego so driving is required to get to your destination. It has been many moons since I've been here so I do not know how updated they are now, but for the price it costed and the service we received, I definitely believe it is worth writing about x

Stayed here overnight on a short trip and I really  enjoyed my stay here. Friendly Staff, Quiet, Heated Pool and clean rooms are the big pluses for this place. My only gripes are that their pillows are small and kind of stone-like. Also, if you're headed downtown or anywhere really, ask the front desk to call in a ride for you for a nominal fee. If it's at night, Joey is the man! I would stay here again, but next time, bring my own pillow!

Also, their AC in the rooms isn't very powerful.

Everything about the room was ok. Clean, shower was nice and hot, refrigerator in the room was a nice plus, TV worked and the pool was beautiful.

I can't recommend staying here to anyone unless you are used to sleeping on a flat hard surface, like the street or your bedroom floor. The beds were easily the hardest I have ever tried to sleep on. It took my g/f hours to fall asleep and both of us woke up sore and tired.

WAY better than the other motel we were staying at. Everything went smooth except for the fact that check in was at 4pm. Our room was in the courtyard which was great. It's a good place for what you pay. The room, lobby, & pool area was clean. The heated pool was great & there weren't any bugs in the pool. The lobby staff was nice & so were the housekeeping ladies. We'll probably be staying here with our kids next time.

Outside is outdated but the room is refurbished. I feel the beds need to be replaced. The beds aren't very comfortable. The jacuzzi jets are great though. The price was good too. After tax it was about $78. Hard to beat that for a holiday weekend.

I will never stay here again. This is the loudest hotel I have ever been at, and not talking about guests making noise....The actual noises coming from the building itself in the middle of the night kept me awake for two nights.

Have stayed here twice and been happy both times.

Pros:
Clean large rooms
Nice pool area with hottub
Low rates (last time we paid 70 $/night)
Easy acess to the city with the freeway (10 min)
Free parking
Café on the hotel good for a fast morning coffe

Cons:
Paperthin walls (you will here footsteps and frisky neighbours.......)
Old dated furniture
Not walking distance to anything

Stay at this place if you want a cheap and good value hotel somewhat close to the city and dont need to have a luxury resort. Staff is friendly and its very close to the San Diego Zoo and Sea World. As this is a 15-20 $ cab ride from the city/gaslamp quarters i would not choose this hotel if the main purpose for the trip is partying. Would also say its family friendly.

We booked on short notice (4 days before arrival) two rooms - the price was on the lower end of what is charged by many of the Hotel Circle properties-which made me nervous that it may not be a very nice place. However, Kings Inn is a very nice place.....certainly in a motel style (not hotel style)- but we could not complain about a thing. The rooms looked like they were recently updated (not stunning, but everything was newish/modernish/clean/comfortable). The grounds are nicely kept, with a central pool and a covered outdoor sitting area. The staff was very friendly. The guests were mostly families....but not entirely, a Marine was checking in with his bride as we arrived. We would stay here again on our trips where we are more budget conscious - there are certainly very nice hotels in San Diego we prefer- but it does not always makes sense to spend that kind of money. For the occasions where we just want a reasonably priced motel room in Hotel Circle that is clean and well maintained - I would stay here again.

I've stayed at Shelter Island & Harbor Island hotels. But, this place is actually better than any of those hotels I've stayed at. Free parking. Closer to the free way. It's around the corner to everything : Old town, Mission valley, Hill crest , Balboa Park! The staff is very friendly. The pool is always warm. There is a a margarita bar/ beer bar on the outer patio. All the guest are so friendly. The waffle spot it delicious. The room was very comfortable. They have been updated . There is a fridge. However , NO MICROWAVE. But, that's ok, we didn't need it. But, there were a lot of families they may have needed one. I am definitely coming back here.

My LeTip of Greater San Diego networking group meets at Kings Inn for breakfast. It's a great place to meet and the food is pretty good. Their main lobby is currently under construction but I actually like that their help desk is outside, not to mention a very friendly staff!

I am stuck squarely in the middle on this one.  The hotel was definitely in a convenient spot.  The price was right but ONLY because I prepaid months in advance and booked through hotels.com .  Otherwise I would not have paid what others did for this room.

The room was tiiiiny and dated and had that umistakeable and permeating moldy odor that always makes me wish I had paid more elsewhere when I walk into a room and smell it.  I had to take disinfecting wipes and clean actual feces off the bathroom wall by the toilet paper dispenser.  Yes, a normal person would have immediately called and asked for a room change but not this Mama who just spent 6 hours in a car with 3 cranky kids.  This Mama cleaned it and continued unpacking.  But I'm definitely knocking two stars for that.  Also the fact that they could consider that when you book a room with 2 adults and 2 kids, maybe you don't put them in a roomwith the door and window directly in front of the main staircase?  Babies were woken up more than once - at like 1:30 a.m. by rowdy college d-bags, and again at like 6-7 a.m. by everyone and all their rowdy children going to the beach.  

The front desk staff were mostly friendly, but some could use some help in that department.  We were there for 4 days so we encountered a few.  The guy who checked us in was very dry, very impersonal.  The woman who put me on hold for over 5 minutes when I called down to ask where the ice machine is, and then tried again when I called back....she could use some lessons.  The maids were thorough (while I was there, except for the poop of course) and honest.  I accidently left something valuable and went back to get it hoping they hadn't come for the day yet....but they cleaned right around it.  I wasn't expecting to find it when I went back, honestly.  

They could really give you something when you check in that says "Heres the ice machine and vending..."  And also...we didn't realize until we were IN the restaurant that we could have gotten room service!?!?  Holy crap!  NOTHING in the room said that!  Hello!  I would've SO eaten in my hotel room rather than chase screaming toddlers around your restaurant!!!!

The pool and grounds were very clean.  The pool area was actually pretty great and on Saturday they had a bar open down there with a bartender!  The convenience of the two restaurants on site was pretty awesome.  You get coupons when you stay there.  They are weird restaurants, but the food is actually good!

Probably won't be back.  Just sayin'.

We went for Tiki Oasis, The Crowne Plaza being sold out long before.
Im a vendor there for my first time.
The staff at Kings Inn were very friendly, helpful and caring.
The rooms are clean, I slept well and I would stay there again.
I think I even prefer it over the hustle and bustle of The Crowne Plaza on a Tiki Oasis weekend.
I would recommend this Hotel to others!

We came here on vacay for 2 days and were pretty impressed, especially for the price! Its not some ultra luxury swagged out place, its your typical cheap rooms and just a place to sleep and clean up.

The nice thing about this hotel is that its super centrally located and easy to locate. We came in late and spoke to Ana, she was sooo nice and initially put us in a further room on the bottom floor. We were just about to leave and she changed us to one closer right next to the pool. I already knew about the funky drapes and was ok with the decor. It was only 112$ for 2 nights so why get all crappy over it? The queen beds werent the most comfy, but they sufficed. I liked how all rooms had a fridge in case you wanted to put waters or what have you in there. All rooms also have the standard hair dryer and iron plus ironing board. The bathroom is decent and clean and overall it was a nice stay.

If you could look past the funky bedding, you'll find a decent place to shower and sleep here in SD.

Save your money and stay here, at least you can have a blast with the money you saved!

Stayed here for 2 nights visiting San Diego. When I first checked in it was fast easy and the staff where very friendly. Then walked to my room where everything has been updated and has a more modern look now which I love. The pool is heated, so my kids loved swimming in there pool. It's very close to downtown,sea-world,balboa park and San Diego zoo which was very convenient for us. If you needed anything for your room they would be right over to bring it to you. And the best thing is that they have a waffle spot that is walking distance to your room. Which my kids loved so we didn't have to drive anywhere to get breakfast. I didn't think the nights where loud or anything. It seemed it was a more family oriented place. Which is great so I will defiantly be back for a second visit. Thanks kings inn hotel.

Good place for what you pay. My family and I were here for a Legoland trip. The pool area is really nice, and the hours are good. Bathrooms are cramped.

If you arrive in SD early, they aren't very accomodating about checking in early...we were able to check in an hour and a half early, which is ok i guess.....very centrally located amd there are 2 restaurants in the hotel.

I would come back for another budget friendly vacation.

We stayed here for 1 night, we checked in early 'coz there's a room available. When we got to our room, the bed looks nice but there's a hair on the blanket, and we had ants inside the bathroom, we killed like more than 20 (one at a time), the carpet is a little dirty, and so is the wall. The pool is nice and warm, you can go night swimming.

Was really impressed / surprised with KI. Came down to San Diego for the weekend for a music festival, was just needing a place to lay my head for a bit and shower. This place was easy on the wallet and well exceeded my expectations. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but the rooms on the inside are completely redone with a modern feel to them. The beds are pretty firm, but I was too tired to notice really after dancing all day / night. Check in was a breeze and the staff was very accommodating, they even gave me an extra hr to checkout. Must try the waffle spot restaurant on location as well, great way to fuel up for the day. Will definitely be back whenever I'm in SD for a cpl nights.

Decided to do a birthday trip for my son's birthday to the zoo and beach. Found a good deal on orbitz for a 3 night stay for around $118 (was able to pay with my paypal card). I paid in full before getting to the hotel, but when I went to check in they stated I had to put a $100 hold on a credit card anyhow. That was a pain in the butt, but luckily I had it. The receptionist guy said I had all the stuff emailed to me, I probably did but didn't really look. So giving you all a warning. We stayed in room 115. It's right by the parking lot and a corner room. It is nosey, but honestly I live in a big city and I'm  used to the nose, but if you'd like a quieter  room, this is not your room lol you can here whoever is staying in the room above you. The people in the room above us had kids running almost till midnight:-/ (so get an upstairs room if possible). It was a big enough room for my 2 boys, my husband and myself (2 queen beds). It had everything you would need. There is the Waffle Spot and a Mexican restaurant attached, but didn't get to go in because the place was packed. The pool looked clean. Didn't get the chance to use it though. If you're looking for a budget friendly place that is close to downtown San Diego, this is the place.

We stayed in a big name San Diego hotel a few years ago. One morning we wanted to eat breakfast so we started driving around and found the Waffle Spot which is located inside this hotel.

As soon as we walked into the front door we were impressed.

It had a quaint feeling about it that we all thought was very neat.

When we got back home I bookmarked it on my computer.

Well just recently we wanted to take a trip down to San Diego. We remembered the Kings Inn so we called and reserved a room.

When we arrived it was just as we remembered it. It is old school and very comfortable. The rooms we got were awesome. We loved every minute there.

In the morning we walked downstairs and ate breakfast at the Waffle Spot. Yummy!!!

The Amigo Spot is not so yummy. Stay away from that place. But that is a whole other review and I do not want to take away from the Kings Inn as a hotel.

The Kings Inn is a winner. We will be back for sure. It is our absolute first choice for any future trips to San Diego. We have been gone a week and I miss it.

Thank you Kings Inn for a great stay. We loved it and will be back.

I stayed here in January of 2015, and am just now getting to review it. First, it's easy to find and though they were revamping the lobby, the check in window was clearly labeled. The woman who checked me in was lovely, and we had a great conversation about the hospital that I was interviewing at the next day.
I had a room with no carpet, which made it pretty cold at night until I discovered their heater the second night. The window faced an alley which was creepy, so I clipped the curtain together to make sure no one could see in. It was also very loud for the first half of both nights- loud music, yelling, etc. But it eventually calmed down. The noise combined with the cold the first night was pretty miserable (my own fault for not asking about heating).
The room and bed were clean, well stocked, housekeeping was great, parking was included. All in all, I would stay there again, though likely not the night before an early morning interview.

It served it's purpose for a quick one night stay in SD. I wouldn't want to spend much more time here. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. The air-con was broken when we arrived and they sent someone within an hour who fixed it. I didn't like how tight the bathroom was but it was clean. The grounds feel like a hokey motel but the rooms are a little better than that. The service was good-so overall not complaining for an affordable place to stay.

Pros: cheap we paid $60/ night, remodeled on the inside of the rooms, pool, hot tub, clean rooms

Cons: NO MICROWAVES available at all, front desk Has an attitude problem. When we redeemed our "free goody bag" (coupon via yelp) the lady laughed with attitude threw samples into a black plastic bag and handed it to us, when my boy friend asked if he use a microwave again front desk lady stared at the cold pizza long and hard before saying "no" how hard is it to be nice to customers? "I'm sorry but we don't have a microwave" is all I expect. And how hard is it to purchase a $50 microwave at the local Walmart to put in place for customer use? I guess too difficult for the Kings inn.
Remember to bring your house slippers because the tile is cold! And there are no bath mats, which Makes it uncomfortable to get ready in your room. Because it says our room should have a bath Matt and we didn't, we thought we don't want to get charged for it so we informed the front desk and of course the lady smirked and finished our sentence like "ya I know no bath mats" I guess none of the rooms have them, so why keep it on ur inventory list?
The rooms are very awkward, upon opening the door your enter right into the sink area

Let me begin by saying this place is by no means a 4 star hotel. However, for the price and location it was super clean and a great deal. So on a scale of 1 to 5 they deserve a 4 for being clean, inexpensive, and close to Sea World. The bed was very comfortable and our room also had a refrigerator. We ate breakfast at the restaurant  and it was also good. The staff was nice and I would definitely stay here again.

The only reason for me not giving this rating a 5 is because the parking is ridiculous and is so crowded, the restaurants was terrible, the food was horrible and the "mariachi" isn't even real mariachi, and if you request a song they don't sing the whole song. Other then that all was good

I travel a lot for work and I have stayed in much better places for way cheaper than this. This place was NOT worth the amount of money they charge for a room. The bathroom was so small I could barely close the door. The walls and ceilings are paper thin. I could hear children running around and yelling at all hours.
Then at about 7:30AM they started drilling and pounding hammers working on the room above me. I called the front desk and they said yes they are doing work but were not supposed to start until 9AM. Which I feel even if they had started at 9 like they were supposedly allowed to, this is completely unacceptable when checkout is at 11. The sounds were so deafening I had to check out early, when I actually was going to pay to have a late checkout. I left this place tired and with a headache.
They did give me ONE breakfast voucher but I asked for a manager to call me when they got in and have yet to hear from them.
Seriously, look someplace else for a place to stay.

It was fine, but not really nice. We stayed in room 204 in a room with two queen-sized beds. My friend liked the bed, but I felt it was too soft and not firm on the edges. The bathroom is TINY. The towels were nice. There was only a small shampoo bottle, and not any lotion or anything else.

It's a very family-oriented place and the children/families swimming in the pool seemed to be having a great time.

Ok, the goody bag for yelp check ins no longer exists. Either way, the guy told me it was only travel size toiletries.

We arrived near midnight from a late flight and were greeted by Dwayne.  He was super nice and attentive. Explained everything that was going to happen with the $100 holds placed on my card and how it would be released back to me upon check out.

The room (289) faced the pool. Once we walked in it was muggy and had the famous mildew smell most low cost hotels have. Once we figured out how to work the a/c unit and sprayed few pumps of my perfume in the vents and around the room, things cleared up quickly. The beds were firm with soft pillows. No matter what setting we used on the thermostat, the room would remain cold at 65 degrees. So.....an extra blanket woulda been nice.  The bathroom was small, but clean and you could get fresh towels every morning if you like. The TV was large and had plenty of channels to choose from. No microwave!!! Only complaint from me.  Complaints from my boyfriend:  the walls are pretty thin and random visiting children run down the walkways shaking walls and doors until 9pm.

We didn't try the two restaurants on sites, but next time definitely will.

If you follow me you know I'm a frequent hotel hopper around San Diego because I live at home and if I wanna get freak nasty with my man we gotta stay overnight at a hotel. So saying that, I have visited some pretty low-high end hotels throughout San Diego.

This time we decided to stay here at the Kings inn. It was $105 (probably bc of the holiday weekend) for the night (Thursday). Known for its "waffle spot" in the hotel parking lot this hotel exceeded my expectations. It's in hotel circle on mission valley so theirs gonna be
-tourists
-families and their screaming parasites
-out of towners
-horny mid-twenty couples such as myself.

Only thing that was available were two queen size beds. The rooms were cute and cozy and super clean. I have no complaints about how it looked or smelled. Bathroom was fully stocked with towels and amenities.   Everything was up to date; coffee machine, TV, no microwave.

Only thing I have to mention is, I froze my naked ass off all night. There are no comforters on the beds in effort to "save water and energy" Just sheets. I read that on the night stand once I woke up in the am and then it said that "additional blankets are in the bottom dresser drawer" I go and look and there they were. Would have been nice in the middle of the night.

I will return in the future, it's a great place if you're visiting from out of town its central to everything you're going to want to see in San Diego. Target and mission valley mall is just a exit away.

For the star rating of this hotel I will say it was a pretty good experience.

Pros:
-Newly updated rooms
-Amazingly friendly staff (24hrs)
-Wonderful pool

Cons
- Walls are thin- you can hear everything ( I was located just to the top of the stairs and ALL NIGHT LONG I heard people coming and going, slamming luggage, yelling etc...) I was not able to get a different room which was the subtraction of a star.

-Bathroom was not updated. Chipped and discolored tub, hair clumps (the biggest hotel offender ever)

-Blankets were stored seperately, to save on water washing if you dont need them, but they too had hair clumps in them.

As a women I get that hair happens, and it gets everywhere, but unfortunately for teh hotel industry it is a huge put off, especially since it is not your own hair you find. Its a strangers!

The first time I booked here, I was a bit skeptical... From what I could see online it seemed a little quirky and a bit dated.  But I went for it because it fit my budget & and I liked the location.  

I'm so happy I did because we seriously adore this hotel.  Now, I'd be lying if I said it doesn't have a bit of a kitsch to it... but that's one of the reasons why we love it so much...

The hotel has made a lot of renovations since we first started staying there so every time we visit our room looks even nicer then the room before.  

Despite all these changes, they've managed to retain the charm that initially drew me in.  Which is good.

Whenever we visit, our rooms are always clean and comfortable and we've never had problems finding parking.  Housekeeping has always been prompt, friendly and accommodating. The staff is really hospitable and quick to assist.  

A highlight for us is always the pool and hot tub along with the Waffle Spot!  (The waffles are amazing!) Our kids really look forward to the drawings and of course Sir Wafflelot!

Having The Amigo Spot on site is also convenient, especially for drinks at night. But we tend to eat dinner off site...

All in all, This hotel might not have all the fancy bells and whistles of some bigger hotels but I really think they are doing things right here.  I love it!!!

My husband, 10 month baby and I stayed at a newly remodeled room in this hotel. When we first opened the door the layout was a bit odd. The bathroom sink was the first thing you see with the bathroom to the left. Needles to say it was a bit snug. You had to step to the left close the door and then step to the right to get to the "bedroom" area.  We looked past this minor part. The decor and beds seemed to be nice. We set up my daughters pack and play and still had a good amount of room. There was free cable, which was also good and a refrigerator.

It was raining out when we arrived and noticed that the room temperature was below 69 degrees. That is pretty cold for us so we tried to increase the temperature.  We left the hotel and thought it would be warm upon our arrival that night, and to our surprise it was still 69 degrees. My daughter had already fallen asleep by this time so we decided to try and go to bed. I bundled my daughter up, but through the night she kept coughing from the cold. The next morning the first thing we asked was to have the heater looked at.  They sent someone right away and said that is was fixed. The day warmed up so the inside went to a high 72. But when night time came we had the same problem.

Wr didn't get to try the waffle house since it was super packed and had plans to be at other places. The pool was okay and was 9 ft deep, which is pretty rare. Parking was not too bad either. Our stay overall was okay. Really wished that they could have either relocated us or had rrally solved our issue. As a travelling parent its the small stuff that counts.

Now for the bad , no microwave in room or available in the lobby .. They do have a microwave that they rent out for a fee ..never  encountered this one , haha . So make sure if you eat out its cold .

If it was not for "Sandy ", service & cleanliness/locale I would rate it 3 stars
