Distasteful for a motel. You can hear everyone around you because the walls are so thin. There were tiny bugs crawling on the bathroom floor. The people at the front desk weren't hospitable and polite at all. There was a domestic violence situation in the middle of the night while I was there and lots of scummy people lurking around. I would not stay here again is they paid me to.

We wouldn't normally stay here but as it was a last resort from just walking out of another hotel this one was pretty CLEAN, not bad for your money. The front desk, ALBERT was very nice and accommodating!

Who would have thought 5 stars for a La Quinta.  If  you read my reviews you will see I tend to rate my hotel stays.  The LQ as we will call it was great.  I stay in VEGAS and get ZERO free WIFI, the LQ wifi was free and very fast.  We rented an Apartment suit,  89-99 a night, it had a FULL size fridge, a full size microwave, 2 couches, a washer and a dryer, a kitchen table, duel sinks, a kitchen sink, a blender, full size coffee pots and 2 tv's.

There was a small con even with all of the pro's

1. Windows don't open for fresh air to get in, we are from San Jose and well it's cold here right now, SD was nice and warm.
2. The hotel is right by the freeway and it's loud as hell, you cannot leave your door open to let air in and even think you are going to hear a convo with your friends.  ( with the door closed and the 2 duel pain windows in each room there is no freeway noise)  Yes i said it, each window has 2 duels LOL.
3. The room was clean, but one of the kitchen drawers had an UN OPENED bottle of personal lube, we laughed but my son asked what it was.

When leaving I mentioned it to them just to let them know, she handed me a free room upgrade for the hassle.

Will i stay there again?  Yes for sure!!!

i was pleasantly surprised! the inn is in a really convenient area, right off the freeway and it shares a plaza with a 24 hour IHOP and starbucks. gas station is also nearby. if you go a little further you'll find vons, CVS, more gas stations, and everything else you need for your vacation.

there IS a pool, and it's open until 10! the rooms were clean, i didn't feel grimey at all. the staff was also nice and took good care of us. the free continental breakfast is actually pretty good. they had cereal, yogurt, HOT waffles, toast, bagels, fruit, hard boiled eggs, juice, coffee, milk, random pig in a blanket things, muffins, etc. there's also tons of free parking!

it's not downtown, and some random stuff didn't work very well. for instance, our TV was tinted red and one of the lamps didn't turn on. the TV was fixed within the same day though, and we told them the lamp wasn't that big of a deal. i would definitely consider staying here the next time i visit SD!

After a nightmare reservation process/mixup with Expedia - the team @ La Quinta (John and Helena) restored my faith in competent work staff. They worked it out, I was refunded the mistake and they even set up a special breakfast for us early rises. This place is great!

Stayed 1 night 9/13/10 and was also pleasantly surprised. I am a loyal Marriott customer, but I was traveling with my two cocker spaniels and this was one of the few hotels that accepted pets without charging an extra arm & leg. VERY nice hotel staff. Most of them have worked there 10 years+, very helpful and courteous. This property was renovated 2 years ago, the beds were very comfortable and the room was nice and clean. Fairly quiet considering it is right next to the freeway.

Location is great! easy access to the freeways, and a short distance from La Jolla & San Diego. It is tucked behind some other businesses, but the location was super. All sorts of eating places including a 24 hour iHop right next to the hotel/inn.

Didn't use the pool but it looked very nice. The property does have elevators, plenty of parking, in room Wi-Fi. Starbucks is right next to it as well as 3 gas stations, pizza, 7-11, a place to get a massage + more!

I was disappointed in breakfast, but hey the room was only $73 and that is very reasonable for the San Diego area. Everything was pre-packaged. Fresh apples, juice, milk, 3 choices of dry cereal, instant oatmeal, packaged bagels & muffins (Otis Spumkmeyer), and oh yes, the pigs in a blanket which were pretty good.  Hard boiled eggs, yogurt, and packaged waffles were also available.  While I wouldn't jump up and down, if I wanted to I could go next door to iHop and get a real cooked breakfast!

While this isn't a Marriott, I would highly recommend this for the budget minded, or someone traveling with a pet.

Completely nonsmoking.  Clean.  Good breakfast.  Large pool.  Free wifi, but it runs a little slow on a Saturday night.  Has two six-outlet surge protected outlets.  You need that when you have computer, cell phone, i-pod touch. Only 15 minutes from Son's house.  We received a sweet rate for a seven night minimum stay.

I stayed 4 nights here and it was just okay but let me tell you why you should go elsewhere.  1) the carpets are dirty dirty.  If you walk barefooted around the room the bottom of your feet are black.  This was a non smoking room too.  2) the breakfast selection is extremely limited with stale bagels.  3) they charged my Visa per day then at the end of my stay another whopping $500 so now I have been double charged and its been two weeks still no credit has been issued.  I have called twice now as well as my bank today so hopefully by tomorrow this issue will be resolved.  4) I called the office one evening my TV remote stopped working, and the guy said he would be right up with batteries and never showed.  5) The coffee maker in the room did not work but they did replace that.  6) There is no fridge or microwave and I paid $122.00 a night.

Now the good news is it was quiet during the night.  The parking lot is large which is good if you have a U-Haul like I did.  Most of the staff are friendly and courteous.  It's location is ideal to IHOP and a mexican food place, and the Mobile gas station so very walkable.  They are pet friendly.

Really not happy about my return to this La Quinta.  I've praised it as being awesome, but this time around it was the exact opposite.  They were completely full and only had smoking rooms available.  Which is really disgusting.  We'd booked a year in advance and we get stuck with a disgusting room.  I wish they had told us sooner or given us the option, because I would've definitely said NO SMOKING ROOM.  The mirror they usually have in the bedroom was gone, two of the lights didn't work, there was only one outlet and the other didn't work.  Eventhough they cleaned it, it still reeked of smoke smell.  I guess the La Quinta's offer 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed or your stay is free, but I didn't fight for it when I should have because it wasn't really worth the cheap price to be honest.

If you do decide to stay here make sure to request a NON-SMOKING ROOM and remember, 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed or your stay is free.  It says so in the pamphlet in the room.

I will say, the free continental breakfast though was awesome, so no complaints there.

im from los angeles and i stood here because of the star level and the fact that it was 15 mins from the wedding i was attending.... when i arrived there was a sign at the front desk that said "be right back" waited for 5 mins... no biggie.... finally got my keys and went to my room.... it wasnt bad looking.... during the day.... went to the wedding came back @ 2:30 am ....BED BUGS EVERYWHERE... no exaggeration... went down stairs ... to ask for refund... the gentlemen told me he couldnt give me one at that time.... so i drove back all the way back to la since it was too late to find another hotel.. had to toss my luggage and clothing since it was worth the risk to bring it back to home when i finally got ahold of the manager... she granted my refund but denied the expenses for my belongings.... she also gave her word that she send a coupon for a free night stay... its been 3 weeks now and i haven't received it... so this is why im writing my review... poor service and bed bugs.... thanks alot for confirming that i will never stay at la quinta again in any city or state...

There's nothing really special about the aesthetics of this hotel.  The rooms are clean; the pool is pleasant and the grounds are nicely kept.  My five stars are for the customer service of this establishment.  After being displaced from my home for a couple of days, as a result of tenting for termites, myself, my son, my dog and my roommate all resided here.  The staff was incredible!  They did all they could to make sure our stay was comfortable.  They treated us with the upmost of respect, including my dog.  They were friendly, understanding and extremely considerate.  I HIGHLY recommend this hotel for any length of stay.

What a pleasant surprise. The young man who checked us in (unfortunately I can not recall his name) had great attitude and delivered excellent customer satisfaction. The double occupancy room was very clean. Though near the freeway, the noise was not an issue because of the well insulated room. Great continental breakfast. Courteous staff! Excellent value for money. We will stay here again when we visit family.

Every business has its problem every now and then and I understand that! In my opinion what matters is how they handle those problems I'm a pretty easy going guy. We made our reservation for two nights. When we checked in they put us in a smoking room which I immediately call and frontdesk Jon bought up a key to new nonsmoking room, great.
We went out the next day visiting our friends and received a call from the hotel that we were only booked for one night I explained to Mary that I booked for two nights and then she stated the weekend was at a higher rate which if I was told at the booking time I would've been ok with but not after the fact. Anyway I explained to Mary that I had booked for two nights at their AAA rate, and after a little bit of going back and forth Mary call me back and honored what I thought that I had to being with. So this is one of my first reviews but I want to acknowledge the staff at La Quinta for their superior staff in dealing with this misunderstanding and excellent customer service and I will return again and again

The price was right -- they are dog friendly -- couldn't find a hotel closer to our friends house if we tried. All in all it was a great experience, clean room, nice amenities (our room with one king bed had a mini fridge, microwave, nice size TV, desk, hair dryer). I would definitely stay here again the next time we are in the area! They allowed us to check-in early which was great since our drive took less time than expected and the dog could get out of the car and quickly into the air conditioning!

Location was close to where I needed to be. Rates were reasonable.

VERY loud on the weekend nights. Parking was tricky over the weekend because the lot isn't huge and RV's and large vehicles would occupy 2 or 3 spaces and make it difficult to find parking.

For the price point the accommodations were what I expected.

Breakfast in the lobby was a nice bonus - coffee was always empty however and the seating was VERY limited. I do give them a big thanks for having those awesome waffle makers and waffle mix for breakfast as someone who doesn't enjoy cereal for breakfast.

Checkin/checkout was easy.

Sink clogged a few times and housekeeping and maintenance left it clogged even after a maintenance request. They also kept taking the extra towel we requested so after every round of housekeeping we had to ask for an extra towel again.

I'd stay there again in a pinch if the price was right but if I had the money to spend more it would def. not get a return visit.

-I had to kill two roaches in the bathroom - a mama and a baby.  At least they died together :P
-Dozens of fruit flies in the sink area. To be fair, the maintenance guy wanted to spray insecticide to fight the bugs, but I said no since I have a dog.  Unlike other hotels when a guest has issues, La Quinta didn't offer for us to change rooms.
-Broken phone. Maintenance guy couldn't get it to work. So, when there was an issue, I had to go all the way downstairs and around the building to the front desk.
-I had to go to the front desk because I thought the tub cold water wouldn't shut off.  My bf couldn't get it to shut off either.  It turns out that unlike the hot water faucet, the cold water faucet turns off in the opposite direction than normal faucets.  The maintenance guy pointed this out - though why they don't just fix it, I don't know.  While my bf laughed at me for not trying to turn it off by turning it the opposite way, I pointed out that he didn't try that either - touche!  Not sure if this is a con, but wanted to mention it since I had the inconvenience of having to go all the way to the front desk since the phone was broken.  Hiking to the front desk actually isn't terrible, but this past weekend in San Diego was incredibly humid and hot.
-Weird criminal element in parking lot. We felt so unsafe keeping our electronics in the room that we actually kept them in our car trunk when leaving the room

-Allows dogs and cats
-So much white noise outside my door (which at first I thought was a con) but since it blocked out other noises, my dog was less nervous
-Bed was comfortable & TV was good
-Free wi-fi
-Cop car in parking lot both days we were there  - I'm assuming due to the criminal element vibe we felt in the parking lot

Like my boyfriend jokingly said about this La Quinta - "It's the worst Motel 6 I've ever stayed at!"

My first experience at a La Quinta and definitely my last - and I'm not even a hotel snob. Seriously, I've stayed at Motel 6s and Econo Lodges better than this place - and for less!  At about $120/night, I expect a working phone and no roaches and fruit flies - is that really asking for too much?

You get what you pay for with this hotel. Carpet & room decor is severely in need of an update, especially the bathroom floors. Friendly staff & location is a plus. Its right next to Ihop, a Starbucks and a 24hr Mexican restaurant. The free breakfast needs more variety.

We stayed here for the weekend.  It had the best weekend price compared to other hotels.   We picked this location because it was only about 15-20 mins away from SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo and the Safari Park.  Check-in was a breeze  with awesome customer service.  The room was also very clean with free wi-fi and cable.   Free Breakfast for the early birds; waffles were fresh and self-made on the spot! Yummers.

**We loved how the hotel was near Stater Bros and restaurants **

Hopefully I can write a follow up review to this one and change the star rating......

My grandparents stayed here two weekends ago (Veterans Day). The room was nice and clean, they did not experience bedbugs, fruit flies or roach-which after reading the other reviews is a HUGE blessing.
BUT..they were driving in from Sacramento on a last minute whim to be here for my birthday, because we wanted them to have a place to stay when they arrived I called La Quinta and reserved their room for them since the lady who answered the phone said there was only 4 rooms left.
She took my credit card information but made sure to tell me "if your grandparents try to check in and use your credit card I will deny them and turn them away, they have to use their own credit card"...yeah my grandparents have way more money and credit than me, that won't be an issue.
Everything was fine and dandy until last Wednesday the 13th when I checked my account and noticed a 90.85 charge that was not there before from La Quinta Inn.
I called right away and talked to Robert who looked up the account and cards (noting their was two cards on file for the room) and that they both had been charged.
He apologized and said that it would be fixed right away, I figure that it will be sorted out by Friday.
As of today the charge is still there. Yes it could be worse, yes it is "only" 90 dollars, but hey!!!-those are my 90 dollars which I worked pretty darn hard for! I would like them back, especially after being told it will be fixed "right away" & especially for being told when I reserved the room that my grandparents would have to use their own card to pay for the room and could not use mine to do so....(so I can't charge my grandparents room on my card but La Quinta can charge my card (and my grandparents card) for the same room?...)

Soo....come on La Quinta and Robert, don't let me down & get a move on with your promise of fixing this right away!

Honestly, everything is good here except the pillows. Those pillows are SOOOOO uncomfortable that my neck hurt so bad for days. I had to sleep without those pillows. I would say that I've been to better La Quinta. My personal favorite is the one located in mission valley which is closer to downtown San Diego. Other than that, there's still a lot of places to eat around the area which is kind of nice. I would probably stay here again but I"ll bring my own pillows next time!

I stayed here when in San Diego for a dog event.  I love that LQs are not only dog friendly, but also don't charge a dog fee.  The room was very clean and although it was very close to a freeway, I was able to get a good night's sleep.

Check in was easy.  I wish that LQs put mini-fridges in all of the rooms, but my friend who was also staying here wound up with one in hers so she let me put some drinks in there.  I guess they have some that remain in rooms and others that rotate around.

The lobby, where they serve breakfast, is clean.  Breakfast offerings are basic, but fine.  There was plenty of parking but the spaces are rather small.

The only real downside that I experienced was that my TV was broken.  When I checked in I had asked if they had a room with a fridge and they said that the only one they did had a broken TV, so they put me in a different room.  Well, the room they put me in also had a broken TV.  I mentioned it to them the next day and they said they'd try to fix it; when I came back that night it was still broken.  They wound up taking $10 off my bill but I would have preferred a working TV.

The room fees were very reasonable for when I stayed (Memorial Day weekend) though I booked it months in advance.  I looked to book in July and the fees were more expensive; unfortunately SD is an expensive place to stay especially in the summer, so while LQ is still reasonable it's more than you'd think for a motel!

Otherwise, I had a great stay here, and plan to return for future dog events.

I am a big fan of La Quinta as they take dogs, but this one is awesome! Super friendly staff and quite at night. Slept like a baby. IHOP, Starbucks, and MXN Mexican food in the same parking lot! HWY 15 and 56 within .5 miles.

I stayed for 8 days and wished I could have stayed longer as the rooms are huge and comfortable. I highly recommend this LQ location.

Stayed here the other night and it was mainly just to sleep.  I checked in early which was very convenient and helpful.  I didn't return until 1am so I can't really comment anything other than the bed was very comfortable and the location is conveniently next to the 15. I did have an issue with the air conditioner/heater. I think the knob was broken because I put the heater on at night and the air was still cold.

Stayed here for a soccer tourney (Nomads).  The place is perfect for what you need.  A clean place to stay, felt safe, close to freeway, free breakfast, friendly staff.  We had an early game (8am) and were done about 9:30am.  La Quinta let us checkin early where most places wouldn't let you do that.  Only thing which might turn some people ff is the freeway noise.  It doesn't bother me but maybe some folks.  Oh yea, the internet was plenty fast.  we'll stay here again for sure.

For the price- fair deal. Close to interstate so easy on and off.  They have elevators for rooms but certainly a unique system as one needs to go outside to ride it- breakfast is cold cereal- yogurt- breads and waffles- nothing special. Room clean but dated. Front desk Robert a "cool dude" making you feel welcomed

I'm giving this property 4 stars, but this La Quinta Inn really is just high side of A-OK., based on our experience. We stayed here while visiting family during June. It was packed, a full house. Although it's good for business, it means no parking spaces and more noise for guests.  It was especially loud for us, since our room was on first floor right off of the parking lot. The room seemed very clean on first inspection, but our dog found some previous guest's leftover French fries behind the chair - yuck. Hello, housekeeping! So yeah, dogs are allowed but there's only a tiny parking lot island for the pet area; some owners take their dogs up a dirt trail behind the property.

But front desk was friendly, breakfast bar was well-stocked. If that's not enough, there's also a Starbucks, IHOP and a fast food Mexican restaurant immediately adjacent to this property. Since it's next to Interstate 15, it's accessible to almost any part of the northern San Diego area. We especially like the fact there is no daily pet fee, and the complimentary breakfast. We opted to pay a bit more for an executive king room because it included a refrigerator and microwave.

stayed here for two nights.  After the first night, I noticed a bite on my leg.  We checked the room and bypassed it as it was only one bite.  While eating in the room on the second morning, I felt a bite on my right ankle, I didn't look and only scratched that area.  A second later, I felt something on my left ankle and when I looked, sure enough there was a flea biting into me. Now I have been bitten three times.

Im not sure if they are pet friendly but in any event, I'll NEVER BE STAYING HERE AGAIN!

We were in need of a dog-friendly hotel for one night in the area. This La Quinta won out because of price and their excellent pet policy. No extra charge. No size limitation. You just have to sign something saying you're responsible for any damage.

The location is great. Right off the I-15. It's a hilly area and the building kind of towers over the freeway exit. The guy at check-in was very friendly and welcoming. We ended up with a room on the "4th" floor away from the freeway. They do have elevators. The exterior seems a bit outdated but the room itself was clean and the beds were comfortable.

I only have two nitpicky complaints. One is that there aren't really any good places for your dog to do his thing. They have a good size parking lot but really no grassy areas. Two is that the coffee from the breakfast room was terrible. The in-room coffee maker product was at least a little better.

In the end, we slept well and that's all we really expected. It was a decent price and the room was in great condition for being pet-friendly.

This is the second or third time I've stayed here. My brother lives in Poway and this place is the closest hotel to his house with the most reasonable rates.

Check-in was easy and the staff were very friendly. The lobby area is  good size with plenty of couches and a large flat screen.

Our room this time was on the 3rd floor and overlooked the parking lot and freeway. I was somewhat concerned about the noise but I was thrilled that once the door was closed I never heard any traffic noise at all.   The room itself was nice. I wouldn't say it was way above average for the price but it was a good size, clean and quiet, it's defiantly older and in need of some updating especially in the restroom but though it wasn't perfect, it was clean. The only thing that really bothered me was the quality of the bath towels. Super thin, small and extremely rough on the skin. I HATE cheep towels.

Every guest get a complimentary "breakfast" each morning provided near the front lobby. Make your own waffles, choice of 3 cold cereals, breakfast breads, yogurt, random fruit, hard boiled eggs, coffee & juice. Nothing fantastic but enough to start your day.

Convenient, clean, quiet and free breakfast. Yup, ill be staying here on my next visit.

We booked a room for a last minute getaway, and had a pleasant stay. Affordable rates, clean rooms, ample parking, complimentary breakfast, and pets stay free! San Diego is super dog-friendly, so we were happy to take our four-legged babies on our mini-vacation. We took advantage of the hotel's military discount and saved even more money. Conveniently located next to a Starbucks and right off the freeway, this hotel is about 20 minutes from the beach and the Gaslamp District. My only recommendation is adding an enclosed grassy area for dogs to relieve themselves. There were a few dirt spots around the parking lot, but they were very small. Overall, a good experience.
