I am giving this four stars based on the idea of "you get what you pay for" and here you are paying for location!  The actual rooms probably deserve about two stars.

Before moving to San Diego, I stayed here a few times.  Don't get me wrong, the place is FAR from glamorous, but if you want to be near the beach in PB, and spend your money on something besides lodging, this is a good option.  The rooms are small, dated, undesirable...  but CLEAN.    There is a decent looking pool but I have never used it.  You can walk almost anywhere your heart desires in PB from here (and if you do any boozin on the beach, it is nice to be able to just run back to your hotel bathroom).  Parking is included in the room price.  The hotel staff was always very friendly.  I believe they have a few kitchenettes as well.

If you want something fancy, go elsewhere!!!

Tiffany A. has a great review and I couldn't agree with her more.  The hotel isn't 'gross' or bad, but its nothing fantastic.  It's location is perfect though and at a very affordable price.  I live in SD now and when I have friends or clients in town looking for a hotel this is where I send them.

Only downfall.... you have to pay for ice. So bring your quarters!

Best things about this motel:  It has one of the best locations possible, and its cheap.  When you put those two together it automatically becomes a pretty good option for anyone looking to just go out for one night or so in PB.  Of course, the rooms suck, they are in no way comparable to any hotel chain or anything resembling a fancy hotel.  If you imagine a cheap motel room, even one just out of some movie, you will be imagining the exact room you will be staying in at this motel.  That being said, it does have a pool (nobody used it when I was there), it does have free wi fi(which does not have complete coverage throughout the rooms),  and as far as we could see the maids do a good job.   Overall I was more than happy with our decision to stay here during a binge night out in PB.  4 stars not because it is a 4 star motel, but instead because for the price and the location, you cant not be happy with this place.

I love the Mission Bay Motel! I have had so many fun experiences here. It is not the fanciest/nicest hotel..however the location is what it is all about! It is a block from the beach, about 2 blocks from the Crystal Pier and the main drag of downtown PB. I have stayed here after many nights of partying at Typhoon Saloon, Tap Room, PB Bar and Grill..you name it! It is in such a convenient spot to walk to the beach, and or restaurants and bars. The staff is always very friendly, and is willing to help you if needed. The beds are not fantastic, but again it is all about the location. I would recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a cozy beach cottage type hotel. Can't wait to go back!

Great rooms for the price. Beds aren't bad, flat screen tvs, kitchen, looks are deceiving from the out side. Right across from the beach.

The hotel is nothing fancy or anything, but a great place to lay down the head for a night sleep to wake up to another day of fun outdoor activity. Its not far from the beach and Ralphs grocery store is just less then a block away. The parking was okay but gets pack later in the evening. Otherwise a good place to lay down your head for a night sleep.

Stayed here this past weekend for the 4th of July. You are paying for the location 100%. Not that the rooms are that bad but I think the previous reviewer Jacob H. hit the nail on the head when he said "If you imagine a cheap motel room, even one just out of some movie, you will be imagining the exact room you will be staying in at this motel." I thought that was pretty hilarious. And totally accurate. We didn't have to drive ANYWHERE all weekend which I loved. You are like 100 feet from the beach and a block away from all of the bars and restaurants..what more could you ask for? The staff was nice and also let us check in several hours before we were supposed to which was sooo helpful for us and we were extremely appreciative. Anywhere you go in PB you can basically "run back to your room" if you need to to grab a jacket, drop something off, etc. It was definitely loud at night during the weekend but that didn't bother me. I'd stay here again fosho.

Quick update: This time, we stayed more toward the center of the building (#207, not #201 as before) and there was considerably less noise.
You don't want those rooms in that wing right near the traffic light and right across the street from the bars unless you don't want to sleep.
This time, we slept like babies and enjoyed the beach much more, even though it was pouring during our trip.
Great value for the money.  Reservations by phone; they don't take same day reservations--- it's first come/first serve.

Had a great time!  My family and I are visiting Mission Beach from Arizona.  We really had no plans other than playing on the beach.  I saw your business on Yelp and decided to take the family for a 3 hour cruise in hopes of seeing some sea life.  We saw sea lions, fin whales and a blue whale.  No dolphins unfortunately,  but a very enjoyable trip. And we were nicely surprised to find Tuesdays are half price.  Definitely worth the trip and will do this again!

We stayed at the Mission Bay Motel for two nights in July.
The motel's location is really great with an easy walking distance to Pacific Beach - so that alone makes it a pretty good value investment to stay here. We had a two-queen-bed-room with was fairly clean even though it did smell a little old in there.

To me the biggest minuses was, first, the wifi with wasn't really good enough. It was really slow in the room and not even especially good when located right next to router in the lobby.
Secondly, the room had no AC which ended up being a bigger problem at night than I expected. The room got to a sauna-like temperature and the fan didn't stand a chance of doing anything about it.
The sweat was literally running from me in pearls when in there which made the nights a little rough.

I would maybe want to stay here again in the winter or if they get AC - cause again; great location.

Wish I could give 0 stars.

**Absolutely never again!! Pictures don't lie.

When I walked in the woman at the front desk didn't welcome me, smile, or say a word. I asked if she had room availability and she just nodded her head.

RODENT POOP right next to my bed-checked out 3 days early.

My king bed did NOT have a fitted sheet, rather a top sheet spread across the mattress.

The shower was all jacked up along with all the outlets. There was a baseball size hole in the bottom of the shower-very odd.

There was a blood stain the size of my hand on the closet wall-SHOULD HAVE BEEN CLEANED, PAINTED OVER, VERY DISGUSTING.

Killed 5 spiders the size of quarters the second night alone INSIDE of the hotel room.

Front desk people are very rude from check in to check out. The man at the counter was offended I mentioned the rat poop and wouldn't look at me. He had a fit that I would ask for my money back and WAS NOT ACCOMMODATING OR SORRY. He finally refunded me. I paid upwards of $100 per night and it's not worth paying half of that although it's close to the beach.

Have stayed at this motel about 10 times in one year use it when I go on business trips never had an issue before with anybody going through any of my belongings I stay this current week from Tuesday to Friday and when I got home Friday evening I had noticed that my jewelry that was placed in a zipped compartment in my luggage was missing the jewelry is not of much value but it's more of a sentimental value I called the manager to express my concern and he had told me that in 20 years none of his maids have ever stolen anything basically told me to call the police but the police won't do anything the jewelry is valued at less than $100 its just the point that somebody took it upon themselves to rummage through my belongings

SUCH a great deal!!

My friends & I stayed here for my college grad trip a few weeks ago and although I was cautious because of the seemingly "too good to be true" rates per night, this hotel was so absolutely perfect for our trip. It's not overly fancy, luxury, or ritzy by any means. But, it's very clean (a huge factor for me), the beds were comfortable, and the location is completely perfect. The closet space in our room was amazing! A walk in closet in a double queen room? Of course we ladies were excited about that. The ONLY complaint I have is the limited parking (1 car per room), but that's nothing unexpected in busy PB. I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a hotel for a fun weekend in Pacific Beach like we were. I spent hours scouring Yelp for good reviews to help me find a place to stay, and I want to add my 2 cents for anyone doing the same. This is the place! Look no further! You will save $ with the awesome rates this hotel has, and you will save even more because it's within walking distance of everything. We didn't have to call a taxi or Lyft once the entire weekend -- efffffff yeah.

Thank you Mission Bay Motel for giving us a place for my graduation weekend! We had a blast! We will definitely be back soon.
