This is the WORST hotel I have ever stayed in.  The staff is rude and unhelpful.  They also have a security guard that will follow you around the hotel and looks to pass out fines.  We recieved a smoking charge for smoking on public property.  We were not made aware of this until we checked out.  The hotel acts like its the Ritz Carlton, but it needs to realize its located in the heart of Pacific Beach.  Dont stay here, its not worth the hassel!!!!!!

This is a great little hotel with wonderful views and beach access.  You can hear the ocean and sleep with the patio doors open on the upper floors.
Breakfast is not great, but you can walk accross the side walk to the Beach House for excellent breakfast choices.

The staff is very nice and helpful.  Location is excellent.  Pay for the upper floor/ocean front rooms.

This hotel looked a lot better online than in person. The rooms were smaller than expected. We were both allergic to the room and I have bug bites all over my body. There were holes in the curtains, and the air conditioning didn't work. The plug to the bathtub didn't work so forget taking a bath. The coffee at breakfast was nasty and loud drunk homeless people hang out on the lawn outside your door. The cleaning ladies were sweet but the rest of the staff was terrible. The front desk guy was a dick. The weekends are very loud. Noisy clubs on 2 sides that made it hard to find a peaceful place in the hotel. You do get the beach across the street and beautiful view. Look for independent vacation rentals if you want to stay in Mission Beach.

Nicely located hotel but very basic no-frills kind of place and slightly overpriced. I think we probably could have done slightly better or at least paid less for the same quality. The parking was an extra $10 bucks a night which I was slightly annoyed with given the price and quality. The room had a fridge and microwave which was convenient. I thought the maids were not very thorough. The room seemed clean enough but they didn't pick up the empty water bottles, put the ironing board away after I used it, or replace the tissue box that I swiped to put in our car. I thought that was a little weak. They do include free breakfast, but don't get too excited about it unless you really love tang and poor quality pastries. Instead we went across the street to Ralph's to buy some real OJ.

Location was great, parking was decent for 10$ a day. Room I felt was a bit expensive, but considering the location, its worth it. HOWEVER, I had a cousin come from san Clemente to visit for the night, they charge 30$ a night per guest. and I forgot to fill her in on the no smoking policy that is enforced both inside AND OUTSIDE of the room within the gated hotel property and she was caught smoking at 2 am by the security guard. there was no negotiations on the situation, as she put it out immediately and I was charged a $250 bill for it. OUCH!! i will never return...

What a great hotel!! Can't get any closer to the beach if you tried, the views are amazing. It is a family owned and run hotel, unlike a big chain, Ocean Park Inn really cares about its customers. The staff is extremely helpful and gracious. Rooms are nice and very spacious. Located in Pacific Beach, there are a ton of great restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. Definitely going to stay here anytime I am back in San Diego

Excellent location! The price was great! We came for a last-minute vacation and enjoyed our "partial ocean view" room.

We did experience a few troubles (snotty staff, incorrect room assignments, people banging on doors at all hours of the night) and when I wrote the hotel to explain our troubles, I received no response. The events that occurred weren't thrilling, and the lack of response from the hotel shows they don't care to fix their problems.

All in all, the problems we experienced weren't enough to cause me to boycott them due to their excellent location, but they won't be my first choice, either. I guess this was just a case of "you get what you pay for"... I knew the great price had to come with a catch!

Ocean Park  is a dishonest establishment.

they practice the bait and switch tactics with discount rates and will charge you for a full night even after you have canceled your reservation.
ensure you get email conformation. they will work with you to refund you charges. and will play the let me call you back or switch you to voice mail.

you must avoid this crooked business.

I have been here three times, and was pleasantly surprised with the renovations they have made.  Can't do better for the combination of price, comfort, and location this place offers.  The low down:

Well-Priced:  If you book ahead, 100 dollars a night.

Well-Located: Right across the bike path from the beach, near restaurants and shops.   Easy to get on and off the freeway: 10 minutes to downtown, 10 minutes to La Jolla.

Very Comfortable: They just remodeled which means comfy beds, great showerheads, huge flat screen tv, and everything is just new and clean.

Ammenities: Free continental breakfast with waffle bar, yogurt, fruit, pastries, small pool and spa, and parking I think is 10 dollars a night (less in comparison to hotels near by)

Friendly Staff, And Completely Non-smoking

Cons:  Very near bars, so somewhat noisy on weekends.

Friendly staff, comfy beds, free breakfast, AWESOME location.
Couldn't ask for a more pleasant experience.
I rented a room for my boyfriend and I as he was coming to visit me.
Prices were in range with the other competing hotels so I chose OCean Park since the location was the best.

I would like to comment on a review below however, about the smoking charge. First off, this rule rocks because my boyfriend is sensitive to cig smoke. We were on the balcony enjoying a glass of wine when all this smoke started drifting up. We called the front desk and the issue was taken care of. But there are signs posted EVERYWHERE about the no smoking policy. PLUS, when you check-in you have to inital on the check-in card next to a place that reads, "NO SMOKING ANYWHERE ON PROPERTY OR YOU WILL BE ISSUED A $250 FINE." Yes I agree, its a steep fine. But if these people can't read and don't know what kind of contract they are initaling, then thats THEIR problem.

My buddy was staying at the Best Western Blue Sea Lodge.  He had been there for a couple of days and I told him I'd come down and visit.  I couldn't book the BWBSL for one day so I checked around.  The Catamaran was super close but after reading the reviews about the check-in time I decided to stay at the Ocean Park Inn.
It has a nice location right by the pier and walking distance to everything.  The parking was an extra 10 bucks but that's great compared to what I'm used to paying.   The garage was gated and underground so I felt safe leaving my car in there plus it's out of the sun.
The room was okay.  Nothing fancy but decent.  The room came with free wifi, a coffee maker, a fridge and microwave.

I used to come to San Diego for work a couple months a year, and this was my favorite place to stay.  The location is great, right in the heart of Pacific Beach.  The rooms are comfy and affordable enough that I could stay here on my company's budget without getting terrible complaints from our accounting department.  And if I got lucky and got an ocean facing room, I could open the sliding glass door and listen to the surf all night while I slept.

Four stars for location and value, not restaurants and a spa.  Stay here if you want to enjoy Pacific Beach without paying $300 a night.  The rooms are comfortable, and the surroundings are great.

Hotel was beautiful, perfect location ON THE BEACH, nicely heated pool, hot and relaxing jacuzzi, free continental breakfast and microwave, refrigerator, and flat screen TV in room.  Plus, EVERYONE was nice and helpful.  Can't wait to go back and enjoy the nearby restaurants, shops, bars and, of course, beach.  So much fun!

Very nice beach hotel. It's right on the boardwalk, staff is friendly and is in a great location. Pacific beach shore club is across the way, need to try the fish tacos there. The ale house next to PB shore club has great beers.  For a nice beach vacation in the middle of Pacific Beach you really can't ask for more. We've been here two years in a row. Got the two queen bed suite last year and a king bed suite this year.

Stayed here for two nights at the beginning of my birthday tour de CA. I thought it was a great value. My husband and I enjoyed staying on the beach and the nearby restaurants. The pool and hot tub were great; we could've done without some of the little ones, but hey, its summer vaca time. The staff was kind, and the room was clean.

My vacation to San Diego with my fiance was, without a doubt, the least stressful vacation we have ever taken, and that can be attributed to the accommodating staff and the welcoming atmosphere at the Ocean Park Inn.

One staff member really stood out, Matt, who gave us excellent recommendations for restaurants and things to do around town.  He told us about this tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurant, Lahaina's Beach House, on the boardwalk of PB for shrimp tacos.  He also told us where to go for the best local brews at The Ale House.  We loved both places.  It was obvious that the staff at the Ocean Park Inn really knew the area, and it was nice that they also had very friendly, fun personalities.

The location of the hotel couldn't have been better...right on the beach AND right where the Boardwalk starts.  It was also refreshing going back to the hotel pool after a long afternoon downtown.  The pool was heated and clean.  The entire hotel was clean, for that matter.  Our room was spacious, clean and nicer than we expected. And of course the ocean view was incredible.

Highly recommend this place, if I am ever in SD again I'll definitely be returning here. You will not regret staying at the Ocean Park Inn, and make sure you ask the staff at the front desk for recommendations!!

We came to this hotel for a family wedding being held down the street at the Catamaran. We wanted beach access and didn't wan't to pay the VERY high prices for the other resorts in July!

We have three young boys and two older grandparents so we had two rooms. Both rooms were great! Clean and nicely decorated in aqua colors. The two-queen room was pretty standard layout but had a slider that went out to side-yard that then connected to beach, but with secure doors so it was safe. No view but that was ok. The other room faced the pool, which is small, but just right.

Staff was super friendly. Lobby is clean and breakfast good. Parking cheap and convenient underground.

The bars and beach dives are pretty loud at night, but we couldn't hear it in our room. We'd come back if we wanted oceanside San Diego.

First of all, I travel a lot. I typically get a good feel of how the customer service is going to be from when I get to the front desk. This place fit that rule.

I really like this place for many reasons:
1) you get the small business family feel when you check in. The front desk folks were especially helpful. its a great hotel because they want the business but they don't skimp out on service just because they know they are by the beach in a good location. They even cut me a discount when I mentioned yelp so that was a plus.

2) I know from traveling that often times there can be issues with your room or hotel. Its bound to happen. but the ocean park inn staff handled it with ease. I believe I spoke to mat(or matt? ) not sure, but he was incredibly helpful and apologetic. When I got to my room there was an issue with lights in the room and the problem was fixed immediately. No muss, no fuss, and they don't make you feel bad about asking to fix problems, which i've faced with previous hotels.

Not to mention the location is amazing. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends... Family friendly/good customer service and knowledgable desk staff.

My husband and I loved this hotel. Right on the boardwalk at Pacific Beach. The rooms were the perfect size, and everyone was extremely friendly. Patrick at the front desk was fantastic! The rooms, pool, and hot tub were very clean. The free continental breakfast was probably one of the best I've seen. Cereal, muffins, bagels, waffles, yogurt etc. We will definitely stay here again when we are back in the area.

Well, I've certainly never had a hotel threaten to call the police on me.  But their very strict no smoking rule (which we did NOT break in any way) apparently extends to having things that are smokeable as well.  Although they really had no recourse as we were fully in compliance with all CA laws, it's not like anyone wants to deal with the police for any reason on a romantic little trip...or ever, actually.  So aside from the fact that we were respectful & quiet during our entire stay, kept/left our room very tidy and followed the heavily posted no smoking rules to the letter, we were harassed and threatened against "lots of complaints" from guests.

Umm...speaking of which, *what* guests?  The place was like a ghost town.  But whatever.

The hotel was clean, the pool & hot tub were clean, beach front room was spacious and the big bed was very comfortable.  If not for these factors this would be a one star review.  Overall my recommendation is SKIP THIS PLACE in favor of any number of other hotels in the same area.

It had been a while since I had gone to the Ocean Park Inn.  But recently my fiance and I got engaged and we thought it would be fun to stay here for a long weekend.  This was actually the first time we made reservations in advance (we usually just call in before a fun night in PB) using one of their specials.  The guy on the phone was pretty helpful, and when he found out we had just gotten engaged he recommended one of their lesser expensive suites and a bottle of champagne.  Both recommendations ended up being awesome - it was our first time in their suite which had a walk-in shower and great view of the ocean, and the iced champagne when we got there was a perfect start to the weekend.  You guys have made a life-long fan out of us - we shall return!

So, it's a year later and we're back for another week.

We have the same suite as last year which has been spruced up with new carpeting that looks fantastic and to the delight of my children, a new kick-a$$ sofa bed.

The staff is just as friendly and helpful with lots of tips and suggestions on where to eat and what to do around the neighbourhood.

I love that the maintenance man was quick to tell us the pool and hot tub temps every morning. And props to him because he keeps both the pool and hot tub immaculate as do the towel gatherers.

It's so great to stay at a place where people take pride in what they do.

If you want a true SoCal beach holiday, this is a place to check out. If we're back this way, we'll definitely stay here again.

Decided to take my girl here to get away from the craziness in LA for a bit.  After checking out all the hotels near the beach. I decided on this one.  The hotel is not the cheapest.  But it had a good combo of price, location, room quality and parking.  Most others parking was a bit away and you still had to pay.  While parking here was 10/day. It was right underneath the hotel. So very practical.  But 4 stars for still having to pay for it.  I did appreciate the room upgrade.  I had paid for a King Balcony View and was complimentary upgraded to King Ocean Front.  While I guess that would merit 5 stars.  I don't know if that will happen for every guest. So I base this as if I had gotten my original room.  The rooms are a decent size and very clean.  The bed is comfy.  Decor is nice.  The closet has a safe, iron/board and extra blanket.  There's a coffee maker and hair dryer in the bathroom.  And a microwave on table and mini fridge behind a door in the stand underneath the LCD TV.  Free wifi.

Of course the best part is the ocean and the view from the balcony.  It was pretty much clear days when we were there and it was awesome.  I attached some pics of the view and the room so you have an idea.  Nice place and I will stay there again for a future visit.

We stayed at Ocean Park Inn from Sep 1 through the 6th as a celebration of our 32nd wedding anniversary. We could not have chosen a better hotel in the area for our stay. The location, the amenities were superb. Enjoyed the pool, hot tub and patio area...appreciated how clean the area was maintained. Appreciated the laundry room...lovely to pack clean, dry clothes to return home from a beach trip. Appreciated the breakfast provided in the mornings and the availability to have fresh fruit, hot tea and coffee 24/7. The front staff was knowledgeable of the area and provided coupons to local restaurants and taxis. Matt was particularly helpful in this regard. The staff, in general,  were friendly, available and responded quickly to any concern brought to their attention. Mercedes, Patrick and Todd as well as Matt deserve special kudos. The room were clean and maintained each day in a speedy, efficient and unobtrusive fashion. Overall, this hotel is clean, and extremely well run. It may not be the fanciest hotel in the area, but, I would highly recommend it as a choice for lodging while enjoying Pacific/Mission Beach!

What a great place to stay. We were on the third floor in a renovated room. It was clean, quiet, and comfortable.  The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The location can't be beat! We were right at the ocean in a lively part of town. Outside the hotel, the bar noise was loud, but inside our room, it was hardly noticeable and we fell asleep easily. We appreciated the parking and continental breakfast.  This will be our place to stay whenever we visit PB.

First time to San Diego. After searching for many options in Pacific Beach (aka PB), Mission Beach and La Jolla, I realized I made a great decision once arriving at Ocean Park Inn. Greeted by friendly staff, I experienced easy check-in and was provided a pass to their underground, secure parking garage. A $10 value worth every penny -- parking is very limited on Pacific Beach.

Staff was very professional, accommodating and very hospitable. In fact, each time I met them in the lobby they remembered my first name the entire week.

Let's talk accommodations. In addition to being in the heart of Pacific Beach activity with great "beach front" restaurants, lots of healthy runners and being ON THE BEACH, the hotel rooms are extremely clean, good size and have incredible views. Although it was a little cool at night, I opened my sliding door to the view and sounds of the ocean. Sure, it has a little dated charm to it, but fixtures and furniture are all updated, nicely painted and kept in great working order. Although Ocean Park Inn isn't part of a major brand hotel chain (which are limited on Pacific Beach), they offer many of the same amenities. I would say it's similar to a beach front "Holiday Inn Express" or "Hilton Garden Inn". But I have to say, neither of these chains I've experienced had views like the Ocean Park Inn!

Hot tub was hot. Pool was clean, lighted and modern. Pool towels laid out on wicker pool chairs each morning. From the pool area you constantly hear the roar of the waves onto the shore day and night.

Location was great. Don't worry about being "too far" from the San Diego life. During non-rush hours, you're only 7 minutes from I-5 (aka "the 5"), only 15-20 minutes from downtown San Diego & airport to the South, and from LaJolla to the North. Even if it takes you a little longer with traffic, the stay at Ocean Park Inn is definitely worth it. If you're going to a beach city, you might as well stay on the beach.

And the noticeably present San Diego police keep the place fairly quiet and safe. Unfortunately, there is a small population of homeless on PB and around the hotel area. Most of the time, they keep to themselves and do not bother anyone. In addition to the San Diego Police, the main PB Life Guard Station is 100 feet from the hotel.

For 20-30's crowd there are a lot of night life options around the hotel. At times you can hear music, but it's faint. Although the 20-30's crowd is a good majority on PB, there is good presence of families and baby boomers walking and living in the area. My guess is that the family/younger crowd increases quite a bit in the summertime when the beaches really open up. Clientele in the hotel was a mix of all ages and families.

Price was right on the mark for this hotel. I hesitate to say it was a great price for what you get in fear of Ocean Park Inn raising their rates. :-) But after researching almost 20 hotels in the area, I found this one to be the best price for the view, quality, safety, accommodations and service. Shhhhhhh, just don't tell the hotel management that. Ha. If I return to San Diego in the future, you can bet I'll be calling this hotel for reservations!

I live in San Diego but wanted to ring in the New Year on the beach. My friends and I along with my boyfriend rented an Ocean Front room here on NYE.

This hotel is located in PB(Pacific Beach) which is my favorite place in San Diego.
Upon arrival we parked our car in the underground parking structure, which cost  $15 for the night. Not a bad deal as I've stayed in other hotels that charge a lot more for parking.

Check in was a breeze and the front desk staff were very friendly.

The view that awaited us in our room was picturesque. Our room also had a small balcony complete with a table and 2 chairs. The perfect place to take in the view.

The very spacious queen room had 2 queen beds and a love seat that made out into a bed. The room was clean and had recently been updated. I liked the carpet, it had a very neat pattern unlike most hotel rooms. I did notice a nice flat screen tv in the room, but who watches tv with a view like that right outside your window. We did take advantage of the iPod dock in the room to enjoy our music.

Within walking distance are plenty of restaurants, most of them offering outside seating to enjoy the view, and lots of great places to grab a drink. The hotel offers a continental breakfast.

After the end of a long day, coming back to the room and falling asleep while listening to the waves of the ocean was the best way to end the day.

I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay beachfront.

Our first trip to San Diego was when we did a coastal drive in 2009, we chose to stay here. Hubby was adamant we needed to stay down by the beach.

The location was great, decor was good and despite being right near a number of bars it was not noisy. The underground parking is helpful.

It was kind of pricey but that is to be expected when you are right by the beach. One morning when we woke up there was three homeless people sat right outside. Not the view I had expected.

On a side note... I didnt realise the word "Tramp" that we use in the UK to describe homeless people had a completely different meaning here until I was talking to an American! Ooops!

Location, location, location.  If you are interested in the laid back vibe of Pacific Beach and want to be as close as humanly possible to the beach without paying the outrageous bucks then this is the place for you.  (Still not cheap, but this is San Diego and beachfront.  It is what it is.)  We enjoyed the first floor ocean front because we have small humans that enjoyed the room to romp outside, but view of the actual ocean is better from the second and third stories.  You definitely get some local flavor being right on the boardwalk, but hey it is PB and not La Jolla.  We really enjoyed the small but warm pool and spa.  This is the place to go if you are interested in beach, pool, rest, repeat rotation like we were.

This hotel has a GREAT location! It's right in the heart of PB! It's a very clean hotel and they do upkeep the rooms. The ocean front rooms have a beautiful view! The staff has always been really friendly and that's a big part of why we keep going back. We've stayed here at least a dozen times and would recommend it to everyone. If you do get a room towards the back of the hotel it will be noisy at night because of all of the bars near the hotel. I would recommend just paying a little more for a view room and fall asleep to the sound of the ocean versus the club noise!

They also offer a small continental breakfast. It has your typical cereals, toast, waffles, coffee and juice but it's nice if you want to just grab something quick!

It's a great location if you want to experience everything PB has to offer. There are plenty of shops, bars, and restaurants all within walking distance!

Do you like ocean front accommodations? So do I! This place looked perfect until we got there. Basic no frills hotel but right on the beach and in the heart of PB. What we didn't care for was the bum park right in front of our room. The beautiful grassy knoll in front of the hotel was more like skid row! This place was filled with the riff raff of the beach, bums, drunks, shopping carts, etc...apparently this is where the entire homeless population hangs out all day and night drinking, smoking, fighting! The cops were there rousting the bums but it did no good it was disgusting and a complete disaster all weekend! Never again, skip it!

If it was up to me I would give this place zero stars!!!!!! Horrible horrible costumer service. I came down with the chicken pox and I had called in advanced to let them know I won't make it to my stay.... They responded with "oh I can't do anything you'll have to talk to my manager"... Okay call again still no manager... They say she'll be back Monday she'll give u a call... No call... Let me remind you I was in the hospital with a severe case, and after all that they still did not refund my money!

I have never experienced such horrible unorganized costumer service. These people are all morons. I do not recommended this place to anyone because even if you have a legitimate reason for canceling or postponing your stay these people care about only one thing, taking your money!!!!!!

I was never contacted by a hotel manager--and I was told I would be--after my guy and I toured Ocean Park Inn in February.  Irritating, but I didn't bother following up with the hotel right away since I knew Winter 2012-2013 room rates wouldn't be set for several months anyway.

Fast forward to May 2012.

I called Ocean Park Inn a few days before my wedding invitations were to be printed to inquire if the hotel could guarantee a rate for my guests for late October since I wanted to include as accurate a rate as possible in my wedding invitation hotel list enclosure.  We'd previously been told the least expensive room would run about $109/night during our wedding week, but Miss Attitude at the front desk gave me a very different quote when I called in May:  $139/night.  She had no explanation as to why the rate for that particular October week--a week during the low season, mind you--was significantly more than the previously quoted number and the rates for the surrounding weeks.  Even more frustrating was that the employee acted as though our wedding group information wasn't on file.  (My then-fiancé and I had filled out paperwork during our February visit.)  I again provided my contact information and asked that a manager get in touch with me ASAP.  I was never contacted.

Needless to say, the combination of this establishment's lack of communication, the May front desk employee's downright bitchy disposition, and the bait-and-switch room rate increase didn't please me.

The vast majority of our wedding guests chose to stay at Tower23 and The Beach Cottages.  Your big loss, Ocean Park Inn.

I stayed here this past weekend with my boyfriend. This place isn't super fancy and I think that it is under construction right now, but I can tell you this:
location, Location, LOCATION! Right smack in the middle of anything and everything you might want to do for a fun night out and steps from the beach.

It's across the street from the Pacific Beach Alehouse pbalehouse.com and a bunch of other places. I had so much fun I can't remember all of them.

They have underground parking for $10 that you can add to your hotel bill. I loved that we didn't have to search for parking anywhere. As soon as we arrived which was well before check-in, the front desk handed us an underground parking pass and off we went. It's nice to have service done so simply. Of course, we came back later to actually check in.

The bed was comfy. They offer 2 different types of pillows per person, a really bulky one which my bf liked and I used the temperpedic-ish one. Regular-sized hotel balcony, perfect for people watching and a clean bathroom with all the little toiletries you need.  There is also a continental breakfast with: yogurt, bagels, cereal, juice, hard boiled eggs and waffels. No bacon, but that's okay!

Tip: If you're going out drinking the whole night like we did, stop by the 7-11 which is also across the street and pick up some bottled waters to place on your night stand before you head out. The machine outside our room was out of order and they don't have any water in the rooms. OR, you can do like we did and go down  to the breakfast in the morning and  DRINK - water ;)

Great place. I'd totally stay here again; slept like a baby!

Had the best view in most rooms, nice location bars. Everything was ok buts they were pretty rude. No guest service.

Yelp helped me decide on this hotel and they did a nice job doing so.  Ocean Park Inn was the perfect place to stay for our rampage in San Diego.  The hotel was very convenient to the beach and the cheap restaurants.

The rooms were very comfortable and clean.  They were cleaned and nicely put back together each day.  The maid service was great.  Mine had a balcony with a decent sliver of an ocean view.  There is an interesting character that lives in the bungalow next door that sits in his window and smokes and quotes classic literature.

The front desk staff was the best.  They were happy to help us with beach towels, putting our boards in storage, and great with assistance no matter how many times we bothered them in a day.  They have dum- dums in a basket on the desk too!

There is underground parking.  I dunno how they could do that on a beach, but its convenient!

For the price, I would say it is right on for what you get.

Location, as others have said, is perfect. 20 steps from the beach, across the street from Ralph's Supermarket/Starbucks Coffee, and walking distance to shopping/restaurants/nightclubs. Check out Garnet Street if you stay here; it's a few blocks north and there are so many great restaurants and shops. There were lots of yoga studios around too, which was important to me.

Service was good. They let us check in early and check out late. Front desk personnel was very friendly and told us how to find better deals on their rooms. Summer rates end up being $300+ with taxes and fees.

Room was very nice (314). Clean. Even though it said "partial ocean view" it was really good--we were behind the hotel pool so we were a bit further back than the boardwalk rooms. Rooms on the south side seem like they might be noisy; Grand Street is there, with a loud sports bar and, sometimes, a singing group of Hare Krishna guys.

Continental breakfast free, add on 10 dollars a night for parking though. They are renovating the bathrooms later this year, so, if you don't mind some carpentry sounds they should have some good rates.

Will definitely be back.

I would like the tell our story at this hotel.  We came March 22 just for one night to get away for some relaxation by the beach.  While the hotel is nice and all, we did not like our experience.  I'm not sure it's the hotel's fault but here is what happened.

We happened to get stuck next to a bunch of drunken, loud and obnoxious a--holes.  They fought, drank, and yelled ALL night long.  And I do mean all night.  Neither my husband or I got any sleep.  We finally heard dogs attacking at about 3:30 am and just assumed it was the K9 unit of the SDPD.  But, the barking never stopped.  I complained to the front desk and they assured me they had it handled.  But, when I went to the lobby at 7:00 am to get some coffee, the cops were just getting there.  Apparently they were busy that night.  As it turns out, the drunks (and there were a lot of them) snuck in two pit bulls and they attacked the people that were fighting.  It was an awful night and horrendous experience.  They destroyed the room.  They were fighting in the hallway right outside our door.  The dude's foot was all bloody from the dog bite.  What a night.

Management comped us $100 for the trouble, but now that I think about it more, I feel we should have not had to pay for the room.  We never got to sleep and still had to drive three hours to get back home.  It was not a good experience at all.

I'd probably stay there again for the location but there are a lot of transients there and that experience was really unacceptable.  I might look into other hotels in the area.

They do charge $10 to park, which I really didn't mind since it's underground and locked.

I got this room as a deal on orbitz and spent $400 for the room for one night. Now as someone who travels a lot for business and pleasure I know what I get for the prices I pay for. This hotel is a rip off. It's on the beach but that's all that's good about the place.

1. Whole place is outdated
2. This place is normaly $600 and that's insane
3. The front desk guy is really rude
4. The beds aren't comfortable
5. The pool and jacuzzi are so small

Don't stay here. There are way better places for the price

We stayed here for our honeymoon and we we're fairly OK with our stay. Granted we didn't spend much time in our room.
So here are the positives: Amazing view of the ocean and great location.
And the negatives: Bed was a 6 out of 10, pillows same rating (u need like 3 at minimum to get comfortable), but most of all extremely disappointed in the lack of food for room service and the continental breakfast. The restaurant that they use for room service was renovating - so zero room service (and no replacement). Most disappointing of all is the Continental Breakfast!!! With all the $$$ spent at this location they could at least serve fresh boiled eggs, is that too much to ask!??! I mean I just spent $800 to stay here and besides the waffle maker, the only other hot food option is toast/bagels. The eggs were old and dry making it ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE to peel (I definitely ate some shell). The Fairfield Inn Marriott servers better continental breakfast then that!!
Overall: Spend $$$ for the view and location, because you're in such a central location you can walk to get better breakfast (Go to Konos!) and most any meals. I suggest World Famous for Happy Hour and Dirty Birds for the best wings in Pacific Beach!

We totally enjoyed our stay..,
Our room had an awesome partial view of the ocean.
The hotel is at a great location, right on the beach.
Nice staff.
Clean rooms...white bedspreads, which gives you sign of cleanliness.
Rooms were recently remodelled.
Fruit and lemonade in lobby is a nice touch.
Free breakfast is good.
As for complaints, the wifi did not work in our room!  We had to go to lobby to get service.  If you have 'business' to do in your room, this can be an issue.

We look forward to coming back again, as long as the price is right.

Let's be honest about the homeless people. It's a problem! Even if the hotel staff will shrug it off & say "yeah... sorry about that..."

Really?! A homeless man laid on the grass napping directly outside our patio door "view" to the beach & sunset!! For hours!! He left on his own accord, undisturbed by anyone, and then returned the next morning to the SAME spot!! Please- look at the pic I posted. He & his shopping cart had a Better, MUCH Cheaper view of the sunset than my family & I did!!! We walked by him multiple times coming & going to the beach. I was just surprised no one bothered him to move.

I'll say as well, that HUGELY posted policy of no smoking is just crazy. That homeless man sat there on the lawn, lit up & puffed away. Holding his open half gallon of vodka, none the less... Yet my husband & I have to hide in random spots across the street & in an alleyway (in THIS neighborhood!!) to avoid major charges to our credit card?? Seems like some BS to me.

Other than that, the hotel is nice. Our king ocean view room had a pull out couch for our small child, which was nice. The room was clean. We liked the back patio area, which is communal, leads out the boardwalk & has a rinsing shower station. Looks like new furniture & shrubs have been added recently.

I was impressed by the amount of beach toys they have stocked & look to be communal. Boogie boards, pails, shovels, beach chairs even... We were never told if they were communal, but the large storage bin kind of indicated it was. Would have been nice to be told what that was before we went to a local shop & purchased a board for our son.

Breakfast the next morning was a well rounded continental. Actually impressive... Cereal, milk, bagels, donuts, pastries, yogurt cups, hard boiled eggs, juice, coffee & a make your own Belgian waffle station. It was easy to operate & came out perfect. We enjoyed those. No meats...

Overall 3 stars. The staff was kind. Only saw the one young girl at the front desk. Besides shrugging off the homeless issue, which was irritating, she was friendly enough.

I'll start by saying we will definitely stay here again.

We're pretty familiar with the PB area, but now that we live in Vegas we had to look at other options with regards to places to stay down there. We weren't disappointed with this choice. Let me be clear that the money you pay is for the location and the views. You won't find lavishly decorated rooms with all the amenities you can imagine. You'll find a pretty standard, but clean, room with the basics needed for your stay. I didn't book this place with the intention of spending a lot of time in the room, so it was perfect.

The staff working on the Sunday afternoon when we checked in was phenomenal. They were extremely welcoming and accommodating. I opted to pay the $10 for their underground garage parking and they gave me a temporary key to access that garage as I was a few hours early for check-in. They sent me a text when my room was available and they were able to get me in an hour before the scheduled check-in time.

Bottom line - we like the property, the people were great and the views were incredible. It's a perfect location in PB and we'll likely stay here whenever we decide to stay down on the beach.

Stayed there last weekend.  Thing about San Diego in September is that beaches aren't crowded and the water is the warmest of the year.  So swimming was awesome!

Having said that, this was the third time we've stayed here.   We were on the 1st floor with a walkout sitting area which offered very comfy lounge chairs and cushioned ottoman.  Room and bathroom very clean as always.  Bed was very comfy with high count cotton sheets.  Only negative with the room,  per se, was the A/C was on and off countless time during the night so it disrupted our sleep.

Swimming pool is a bit small but heated, and the hot tub was perfect.

There were only two negatives with staying here.  The hotel is 75' from a fire station and the hotel is located within 300' of the Pacific Beach Shore Club which plays extremely loud electro beat music all day and into the late night.  So when sitting out in our little comfy sitting patio you can feel the beat of the music and it's hard to have a soft conversation.   The other thing that is an issue is that the street people like the green grass just by the boardwalk near the hotel so quite a few of them can gsther just outside your room area, though separated by the hotel's perimeter glass and concrete wall.

Lastly, I think this place is a bit too expensive with its normal rate of almost $400/night (though we paid less than that due to some discount because of ongoing rennovation work) per night rate given the negatives, but if you want to be in the heart of PB with the beach only feet away then I guess this is what it will cost.

Oh, one more thing.  They've added a free breakfast which was a nice touch.  Oh, and one more one more thing.   The service was excellent.

Great place! Rates are pretty high during spring break, so use Hotel Tonight and save some cash. Fantastic location, and even the partial ocean view rooms have great scenery. Rooms are newly refurbished and the accommodations are as you would expect for the price range. Be sure to head down by 10 am for the included continental breakfast- they do a good job. Staff was friendly too!

Just got back from another great stay at the Ocean Park. You can't beat the location of this hotel. The staff are helpful and attentive. We had an issue with our shower head, and it was fixed right away. The front desk is very good at giving recommendations of dining and activities in the area. We enjoyed renting bikes and going to Mission Beach. I give 5 stars for the price, location, and quality.

I read all the reviews before booking  here and wasn't expecting so much from the hotel. Actually it wasn't bad for $149 a night with parking and tax = $176 . You can walk directly onto the boardwalk from within the hotel thru glass gates as long as you have your hotel key to enter back in or you have to exit thru the lobby.

The hotel didn't stink and I LOVE that it's 100% smoke-free and smokers are fined $250 if they are caught smoking on the premises LOL.

The bathrooms were pretty big.
The partial ocean view was nice, next time I'd rather get a full ocean view on the 3rd floor that's right next to the boardwalk.

The Only things I did not like about the hotel were:

1. They charge you $10 parking a day!!!
2. They do NOT offer AAA discount.
3. The beds were too soft to my liking.

Make sure you bring your own water as the water bottles they leave are $4 each.

No microwave but they do a have a mini fridge hidden in the dresser below the tv.

Walking distance to 7-11 across the street/paid parking lot.
Starbucks and taco bell are both across the street as well as Wells Fargo inside the Ralphs store.

Fat Taco is a decent cantina to eat.
We tried to eat at the Shore Club right across from the hotel but there was no where to sit/eat.
