Established in 1945.

The Old Town Inn had its origin in 1945 when my grandfather retired as a Brigadier General in the Marine Corps. He came to San Diego to remedy a problem he'd experienced while in the military: a lack of quality, affordable lodging for servicemen and their families. He purchased what was then the Blue Bell Motel, at that time it was the first hotel travelers saw after their day long journey from Los Angeles on Hwy 1 or Pacific Hwy.

Now managed by the 3rd generation, the hotel has evolved. The oldest buildings are gone, replaced by our new, large "deluxe" rooms. We did keep some of the original buildings. The rooms in these buildings, our "economy" rooms, have all the amenities our deluxe rooms have but in a smaller historical package.

Our hotel has gone through many changes, but our company culture has remained the same, to provide outstanding customer service, quality and value to our guests.

This is a very cute Spanish decor motel with a pool.  The rooms are average but comfy if your just looking for a place to stay at a reasonable rate.  Old town shopping is not too far away either, about a 5 minute drive.  For those of you AAA car insurance members, they do offer you discounts as well.

Came to town to pick up my son upon his arrival back into the states from Semester at Sea. After traveling around the world, San Diego was the last port of call and when I found out he was accompanied by a few friends, we needed a centrally located place for them all to stay! The Old Town Inn was the perfect place- They explored the the beach, the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park, Seaport Village, went to a concert at Univ. of San Diego, and to top it all off were able to walk to the Cinco de Mayo celebrations in Old Town! And as each of them departed, it was extremely easy to get to the train station and the airport! The rooms were neat & clean, great TVs, free wifi and breakfast - It was everything we could have wanted! The staff was friendly and helpful too. I would recommend The Old Town Inn for any visit to San Diego. I know we will return again as I remembered The Old Town Inn from a stay there 7 years ago and it has been nicely renovated since then!

Cant beat this place for the price. Its under $100 a night and walking distance to Old Town. The area around it was sort of industrial but felt very safe here and there was no problem getting around. Staff was very nice and helpful. Our room looked like it might have been an older room but it was clean, everything in it worked fine, and there was a microwave and fridge in it. I will definitely return here for the great rates and friendly service. Give this hidden gem a chance if you're on a budget. Free wi-fi worked fine in our room even though we were all the way in the back of the hotel and one of the last rooms. Didnt take advantage of the breakfast but I will next time!

We were going on a "dog beach" weekend when we lost our reservation for our pet friendly hotel.  We called around looking for a hotel that would take three good sized dogs.  No big surprise, but no one would take us.  Then we called Old Town Inn.  They have a policy of two dogs under fifty pounds.  We had three dogs between 40-70 lbs.  The lady on the phone had to ask her manager about it, but she said that it would be okay.  When we got there there was only one room left, and they had saved it for us.  They only charged us the usual fee for two dogs and gave us the room.  The room was very small, but we were happy to have one.  It was clean, cute, and very quiet.  They also have a great little pool there.

I am a hotel snob, usually staying in one of the major chains with reward points, so when I was booked here by my district, I kind of freaked out.  But I was so pleasantly surprised!!  My room had two queen beds, and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in!  The room had a TV and DVD player.  They have at least 50 movies you can borrow from the lobby if you don't bring your own.  The room and property were very clean.  The free breakfast was basic, but offered what I needed.  The pool is on the small side, and the location isn't exactly beautiful, but given the price, the proximity to Old Town and other attractions, and the amazingly comfortable accommodations, I highly recommend staying here!

Very friendly and helpful staff at the OTI. Comfortable and clean - close to Old Town and the transit center.  Negative is the neighborhood which is warehouse/industrial, but the price is right and the motel grounds and pool area are very attractive.  I defintely recommend The Old Town Inn!

Wonderful little hotel! Walking distance to Old Town. This isn't anything fancy by any means, but a wonderful experience for our little family. Great breakfast included. Clean. Wonderful people working there.  The price is great. Free DVDs to check out, free Wi-Fi, free books and games to check out. Coffee and tea at all hours. It was a little noisy during the day in the room with traffic noise, but it didn't seem to keep anyone from sleeping great at night. I would recommend this over and over again.

Excellent customer service, free parking, close to everything, and under $90!    The only reason for 4 instead of five stars is the train at night (twice).  Aside from that, absolutely wonderful!

We stayed 3 nights with our 4 kids and were very happy with the super friendly service, nice pool, free breakfast fit for a foodie, the Ms. Pac man and Galaga video games, not to mention free DVDs, books, and board games to borrow. It's the type of place you almost want to keep secret  but that wouldn't be fair. They also sell discounted tix to the zoo and Sea World. The price was also reasonable.

I was very happy with my room, the service, and the amenities at the Old Town Inn. My cat and I needed a place to stay for two nights between moving out of one home and moving into another. I stayed in the older building and it was immaculate, comfortable, and very convenient. I would highly recommend Old Town Inn for anyone looking for clean, comfortable, convenient, pet friendly, reasonably priced lodging.

The place gets 5 stars due to the price to value of the hotel. Its in a great location for visiting all the touristy spots in San Diego. It is in a different part of town...part industrial, part residential...different. 2 blocks away from 2 strip clubs if that important to you. Hotel is very clean, the gardens well manicured and pool was clean. Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. Continental breakfast was good and filling. Staff was very friendly. Free parking and WIFI. I would stay here again if coming to San Diego and would recommend this place to others.

Just spent a few nights here while in San Diego to visit the zoo. The room was clean and extremely comfortable.  The staff is super friendly and helpful, full of advice on other things to visit and how to get there. My daughter was sick on our last day and we were able to get a later check out with no problem, desk clerk even asked how she was feeling when we left. We loved this place!

Upon first glance of the sign, I mistook it for a Mexican restaurant. Strangely, it is across the street from an industrial area so you will be thrown off. Then seeing the exterior corridors, I thought, uh-oh, hubby inadvertently made an error.  We had one bad experience years ago at one of our spontaneous drives to San Diego during a sold out weekend.  It was a HoJo and I didn't sleep a wink.
So of course, old memories flooded back and I was anticipating a substandard experience.
I was pleasantly surprised.   The staff was friendly and helpful for the most part, and the lobby and surrounding areas were well kept.   There was thoughtfully planned landscaping and pride in ownership at this location.
Our room was nicely upgraded with new sinks and a very comfy bed.
It was nice to have a vending machine and ice machine located conveniently on the 2nd floor, so I didnt have to shlep back down to the first floor for a late night refreshment.
The pool is nice and uncrowded when we went for a night swim.
Continental breakfast was low maintenance with options for everyone. Variety came in the form of hard boiled eggs, cereal, instant oatmeal, pastries, bagels and make your own waffles which was a hit with my son.
The location is walking distance to Old Town but you will need to cross the street, cross the trainstation through the tunnel, up the stairs and then down another block or two for restaurants.
So not the most convenient but not a bad walk either. I'm not a fan of crossing busy streets, so we parked at the trainstation and hoofed it from there.
The only thing that was annoying, but not the fault of the inn is that there is no left turn when you exit.  You will have to make a U turn.
We'd definitely stay here again on our next SD trip!

For the price, this place cannot be beat!  A beautiful little hotel with gorgeous pool area, lobby, flora and fauna.  The location is central-- right between the Mission Beach/ La Jolla Shores side of things and the Downtown/Coronado side of things.  Perfect if you have a car.  Old Town is walking distance-- totally touristy but cute.  The staff is friendly and helpful.  The breakfast is included, and lovely.  Fresh fruit, fruit salad, make your own waffles, toast, bagels, cereal, danish.  Our room was clean and had a fridge and microwave.  The bed was very comfortable and I want to go out and buy the pillows because they were perfect. We adored this hotel and would definitely stay again.

This is nice, economical alternative to the cheaper chain hotels in the area. I was looking for something easy on the wallet, but not roach-infested. Old Town Inn is independently owned, and it shows in the way they take good care of their customers and their hotel.

Although it is walking distance to Old Town, it is a bit secluded from the more commercial areas, and you might as well have a car handy if you're spending time in San Diego. Despite the somewhat industrial surroundings, it's still pretty quiet and you aren't close to the shadier parts of town.

I've stayed at this place twice so far and I had a good time. I found this location online and decided to take a chance for its price and location. It's located in an industrial part of Old Town and is just right by the 5 freeway. Price wise they offer pretty decent prices for each room from the average queen beds to the suite ranging from over $50/night and up. Rooms are pretty clean and decent and the beds are SO comfortable! Did I say 4 goosedown pillows per bed?!

The staff has been very cordial to us and gave us good helpful advice of where to go and where to eat. The main lobby is well decorated and maintained with free wi-fi. They also have complimentary juice and water in the lobby during the day. Their breakfast is pretty good with make your own waffles, bagels, cereal, etc.. Don't expect any meat products for breakfast but for a quick breakfast to go, it's pretty darn good! Their pool is well maintained and only 5 ft. deep for us non swimmers!

Overall, for an inn, this place is the most decent one I've been in. I like the overall appearance and Spanish decor style and how low profile they are. Not bad for an online chance!

Pretty cool hotel with a Spanish villa styled exterior. My wife and I only stayed one night but our room was clean and comfy. It's in kind of a weird industrial stretch but isn't dirty or unsafe or anything. If you are into skateboarding, as I am, it's right down the road from Washington Street DIY skatepark. I probably wouldn't stay here again since it's not close to bars, but it was a solid place at a reasonable price.

Stayed at Old Town Inn while we were in San Diego as part of a Southern California Vacation. We checked in pretty late on the first night because of when our flight landed. The person who checked our group in was amazing. We were a group of four staying in two rooms. She was not able to get us in side by side rooms but we were only separated by one room. She then asked us what type of vacation we were there for. We told her Museums, Zoo, and food. She gave really good restaurant recommendations.

The rooms were larger than expected for the price and really well kept. The heaters worked great( we are not used to cold). The make your own breakfast was nice and hit the spot. We don't like spending a lot of money on a meal that we don't each much at.

Walking distance to Old Town was key. We got some really great food and it is a nice area to walk around.

Overall of the three hotels/ resorts we stayed at this one came in number two. Disney's Grand Californian beat it out, we have Disney Time Share and had a two bedroom villa. Much nicer to stay at than La Quinta in the Palm Desert area.

The best place to stay in San Diego if you want to do fun things it's near everything. It is also friendly and offers many things to do if you have children. It is clean. I would have given 5 stars but it is in not so great of an area. Some people may have a problem with it but I didn't.

This place looks like a real old fashioned motel. Stairs on the outside and rooms open directly to the outside. That is the only negative thing I can say about the place. It is kept extremely clean and neat, all of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. It is walking distance to Old Town, which is a great convenience both for Old Town itself and for the Old Town Trolley tour. My wife and I will go back there in a heartbeat.

I had never been to San Diego before but I had been wanting to go to the San Diego zoo. I finally got someone to make the drive with me. I picked the Old Town Inn from a list of places I found on Tripadvisor.com . They had great reviews, it was close to the zoo and they offered a discount on zoo passes. It is also in walking distance to the Old Town area. I knew nothing of this area before we arrived. It was a pleasant surprise.

Our room was a good size and very clean. We had two large queen size beds, cable access (though we never turned the TV on) and free wifi access. They offer complementary breakfast service. The highlight was the do-it-yourself waffles (yummy).

The staff was friendly and attentive. I was always greeted with a smile. I will be returning to San Diego (next time Sea World and San Diego Safari). I will more than likely stay here for both trips.

My husband and I were here a couple years ago to celebrate our anniversary. We were looking at different hotels which were affordable. We came across Old Town and were glad we did. The rooms are nice, the pool is clean. They had lights around the pool which was also nice to see. They serve breakfast in the morning. The food was very good and I got to make my first waffle, it was fun. We also liked the fact that It is a few minutes away from old town. You have to check out old town.We highly recommend this hotel. We want to come back next year to celebrate our anniversary. The staff was very friendly and helpful though out our stay.

I'll give this oasis five stars. Customer service with a smile, lovely grounds, and free breakfast and WiFi made our two night stay awesome.  Yes, our economy room was smaller than the Marriott, but who stays in the room when you are in San Diego? Room was super clean and nicely decorated. Beds and pillows so comfortable. I decided we didn't need full room cleaning on second day so just called for more towels. Housekeeping was at my door in three minutes! Wow!

Definitely as good as it gets for hotels of this type.

I have stayed at the Old Town Inn twice now and I really enjoy it.

Let me go ahead and tell you why!

Location- It's in a good location. It's near old town, Sea World, and is only a short drive to any other area you want to go to in San Diego.

Service- Everyone is so friendly and helpful here and you seriously get the same type of service that you would get in an expensive Las Vegas hotel.

Cleanliness- As soon as I walked into my room I could smell clean linens. ALWAYS a good sign (beds are comfortable btw). The restroom was also spotless!

Breakfast- Is it terrible to say that I was mostly excited about staying here because I can make my own waffles in the morning? Well it's true. They have a super cute breakfast area with a TV  and everything.

Best thing ever- My doggy was able to stay with me. Getting to take your dog on vacation is priceless. I didn't have to worry about getting a dog sitter or having him stay somewhere sad. There is a pet fee, but it's totally worth it!

    I highly recommend staying here.

The one very important thing the other reviews leave out...
The windows in the hotels aren't sealed very well and the place is right next to a busy street. Equaling lots of noise when trying to sleep. Luckily it slows down late in the night but still, any louder than average car can be heard as easily as if the window was open.

That being said, the rest of the reviews are spot on. The rooms are decent size. The bed is very comfortable. Waffle breakfast was pretty good but everything else about the breakfast was pretty standard. The staff are very friendly and great to talk to. You can also "rent" movies and boardgames. The shower has a shower head at about 5' 6" from the ground but it puts out quite a bit of water and it's very maneuverable as far as shower heads go. Ask for AAA discount. For two weekend nights for under 100 each night this place is a steal.

Old town is really close and a short walk. Awesome people there, great atmosphere, and a lot of shopping.

The place is just outside the middle of everything. I would hop on the freeway and wherever I needed to go, Downtown, sea world, fashion valley mall, was all within a few exits.

Didn't get to check out the pool but it says it's heated and looks well maintained.

Does anyone else notice that EVERYONE speeds in SD? The lowest speed you'll see is like 75. It's so great to be out of LA and drive on a freeway where people can go fast without cutting each other off all the time.

I'd love to give this place 5 stars if they would put in some new better sealing windows.

This Inn has the classic two story motor lodge setup. The front desk folks were awesome. The price was a bit on the high side for this type of venue but understandable since it is close to Old Town.

It is located in an industrial area that is very loud and ugly when you are outside but plenty quiet inside. Old Town San Diego is a short walk and no doubt is why someone decided to plant an attractive motel in the middle of this otherwise ugly neighborhood.

They have a free breakfast with a self serve waffle maker and other breakfast foods but do not have eggs, sausage or bacon.

You can borrow a book or DVD for free which I thought was a nice touch.

Overall a nice hotel and would rebook this place next time we are in San Diego.

Five stars because I found a great hotel for $70ish!  Granted, I booked the budget room and it was small but it did the job.  Hell, it more than did it's job.

The room and restroom were clean, the bed was reasonably sized for a queen, the t.v. was a flat screen, free Wi-fi and free parking!  Where can you find hotels like this nowadays for less than $100?  Nowhere I tell ya.  Nowhere but Old Town Inn.

It's a 5 minute walk to the trolley station and a 10 minute walk to Old Town San Diego.  It seriously doesn't get much better than this...but wait!  It does!  Free breakfast!  They state that it's continental but they have muffins, danish, cereal options, milk, orange juice, coffee, water AND make your own waffles!  That pretty much won me over.  So much so that the fiance and I purchased a waffle iron a couple of days later.

I'm staying here next time I hit up San Deezy.

This place is a gem. It's in a slightly seedy, industrial area right between Point Loma, Hillcrest and Old Town. I'd just spent a week at a very nice Marriott property right on the bay, so I had my doubts. And when I pulled in to the place, those doubts multiplied.

But don't let the gritty neighborhood fool you. Old Town Inn is clean, quiet and safe. The rooms are comfy. And the staff are courteous almost to a fault, bending over backward to make your stay pleasant.

In fact at every turn, this odd little find surprised and delighted me. The budget-friendly price is an obvious draw for those sadly lacking trust funds (like me). And the free DVD rentals, quirky as that perk sounds, was a charming touch -- someone here has seriously good taste in movies. Princess Mononoke? At a place called Old Town Inn? In this neighborhood? I'm impressed. Baffled, but impressed.

Bottom line, if you're looking for an above-average hotel right off major highways (and close to Sea World) that tries hard to exceed your expectations, this is your Inn.

I'd give Old Town Inn five stars, but the neighborhood combined with sloooooow, Skype-unfriendly wi-fi made me stop short. Hey, no place is perfect, but this one is pretty close.

I've only been here a day! My first time here, and wow! I was blown away by it's superb, over the top friendly staff. Great service!!! Keep up the good work!

Not only is this inn cheap, it offered pet friendly lodging for a decent price! They provide doggie bags, too!

This place definitely exceeded my expectations. An inn, I expected small, dirty "old town" feel but instead it's a decent size and clean! Fresh linens and towels, all day coffee/tea til 11pm. And check this, FREE complimentary breakfast!!!! Includes cereals, oatmeal, make your own waffles, bagels, muffins, pastries, etc. Free parking! Free wifi!

What a steal!!!! I would definitely come back here with my other half and pet for weekends in SD. Close by sea world, gaslamp district, mission beach, shopping centers, etc! Friendly atmosphere and though it's a bit on the outskirts of old town historic, San diego, I wouldn't mind the extra block of walking to get there.

I'm already satisfied with this place, and I have another day to go!!!

Ps. Free DVD rentals, and a collection that offers Casablanca is ok in my book!

3rd time staying here. This time there was 3 of us so we got the 2 queen beds. For only around $9 more I opted for the microwave and mini fridge. Clean, quiet, comfortable and great service. I asked for a room on the 1st floor and they were happy to accommodate. It was about $98 a night (not counting taxes and fees- about $112 after that). More reasonable than the big hotels. This has become my place of choice when I visit my son at Point Loma Nazarene University.

This was a nice little hotel.  The wife and I spent one night in the suite with a spa/tub; she really enjoyed the tub.  Next night we stayed in a regular room with a king bed; very comfy.  The hotel is very cozy feeling, and clean.  Right next to Old Town S.D.  Nice staff.  The free breakfast is typical free breakfast; do it yourself waffles, bagels, cereal, hard boiled eggs, etc.  Free parking right outside your room.  We will be staying here when we visit San Diego.  Much rather stay here than at a chain hotel.

Everything. Absolutely everything was great.  Staff? Awesome.  Room? Clean and comfortable.  Breakfast? Delicious.  Pool area? Adorable, pool was warm, well landscaped.  DVDs available to check out in the lobby.  The only reason for the missing star is that I was a little freaked out by the area.  I experienced no shady characters in the hotel, on the property, or in the nearby vicinity but just down the street on the corner are unsettling individuals, some of which migrate to the Transit Center late at night.  I didn't have a car, so I was walking to the Old Town Transit Center, which is very very close.  Cross Pacific Hwy and you're there.  I was also alone.  I was intimidated.  I admit.  But I would recommend this hotel to anyone, but recommend they walk in a group of 2 or more if using the Transit Center late at night.

    Great Value

Kind of weird location. Great walking access to Old Town.

Super nice staff. They are really awesome and über helpful.

The rooms are less than spectacular, but most of my time in here was unconscious (i.e. sleeping). Slept well, comfortable bed.

The only strangeness was at the free breakfast buffet. Enclosed space; hungry families, morning quirkiness.

We grabbed our bagel, cream cheese and boiled egg, fruit and coffee, and headed straight outside to the pool patio. Beautiful tropical garden, no fussing kids and/or parents bitching, in short...nirvana.

So I did stay there again.  Came back for vacation. My wife and her family were very impressed at the quality and the price.

The staff is super-friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful (lots of flowers blooming). Room was clean and I didn't mind letting my little one crawl on the carpet in our room. Breakfast was a great bonus. Free parking. And convenient for the trolleys. Free wifi.

    Highly highly recommend.

Very nice hotel.  Great continental breakfast.  Very well maintained.   Very very clean.  The staff is absolutely fabulous.  Accommodated my late check out request.  I also needed batteries  and when I called the front desk to ask if they had salt they actually ended up bringing it to my room even though I didn't ask them to. It seems centrally located to everything and the old town transportation center is a short walk from the hotel. Lots of families staying here.  Free wi fi an parking is definitely a plus.   Not one complaint about this great hotel.

Ok.  I haven't been to San Diego before - so I had no idea where to stay.

This hotel was rated well on Yelp - so I took the chance.  My requirements for a room are pretty simple.  It has to be clean.

I think many of the other reviewers have covered many of the amenities here.  I don't see anything to complain about.  And I have gone all over the room and checked every nook and cranny.  It is very clean.

Of note - the shower / tub is very nice. The microwave was spotless.  The fridge showed a little age on the outside, but the inside was also spotless. Did I mention I pulled up the sheets to look at the full-thickness mattress to see how clean it was?  It looked great with no stains.  Finally, the under-window air conditioner looks brand new.

I have to say, I am very impressed with this hotel and would recommend it to anyone.  It isn't fancy, but it looks extremely well run and well-cleaned.  And thanks to Yelp for helping me find it

Really outstanding hotel.  Very San Diego vibe, very well maintained grounds, room was very clean, everything worked fine, the price is insanely low.  If you are looking for a hotel in this price range (or up to 25% higher), just stop looking around and book this hotel.  I'll go back.

BTW, I'm not super loose with my 5 stars...

I like to stay here when I'm in town because it's decent, has free wifi, free parking, and free breakfast. This time around I paid for a budget room, which placed me in the older building (I usually stay in the newer part of the hotel). The room was a decent size in the older building, but the sheets and comforter definitely seemed thinner. Also of note was how loud the traffic from the street was. I somehow did not notice it before in the past, but this time around it was very noticeable. I stayed up on the second floor and heard every car and truck rumble by. It died down a bit at night, but it was still quite annoying! I heard the traffic more than the train.

Despite this last stay, I still like staying here and will do so again. The breakfast is adequate - cereal, hard boiled eggs, DIY waffles, oatmeal, juice, bagels, bread, jams, jelly, peanut butter, fruit, coffee - and the staff are nice. There is coffee and water available in the lobby at all times.

Great central location near freeways, downtown, beaches and Old Town.  New TV's, free Wi-Fi and a coffee maker.  Breakfast was good.  Nice landscape with lots of flowering trees.  Only complaint is that on top of the office they have a Mexican, Californian and another flag I can't remember but NOT an American?   Really?

I stayed here about 3 weeks ago for a little weekend getaway. I found this place to be A ok. Nothing fancy but very practical & decent. Prices were fair & very close to Sea World & Gaslamp District. The ladies in the office were very nice & friendly. I was very pleased with them. There was free parking, free wifi & free breakfast daily. Fresh made waffles (make them yourself), cold cereal, oatmeal, fresh fruit, coffee oj, & selection of breads. The dining area is a bit small & got crowded. I recommend you take it to go & eat in your room. As for the room, i was happy with it. 2 queens beds, a decent bathroom, a kitchenette with stove, microwave & fridge. I would def. recommend this place, you'll be happy with it.

This place is a diamond in the rough! The upsides are that it was a great price, in a central location in SD, it was super clean and well maintained, had a decent breakfast and the staff was awesome. Oh yeah, an it's pet friendly.
The only downsides (and it doesn't bother me at all since I'm use to living in a noisy city) is the noise and surrounding area. You get train and traffic noise. But it mostly quiets down at night so that's a plus. The area it's in is a little ugly but since it's maintained so well it doesn't matter much. It's still a total steal!

Our room was clean and the bed was comfy. Free breakfast is a nice touch as well, although a hot option would've been even better. The location is a short walking distance from Old Town, but the path is well lit and the front desk staff is happy to give directions and recommendations. You might even see a bunny hopping around!

We were lucky to squeeze in last minute for Comic Con. They didn't jack up their prices like a lot of places do. We got the "economy" room by the pool and were prepared for the worst but were so pleasantly surprised! It's a charming bungalow style, clean as a whistle and darn cute. We didn't want to move on our last day but due to the Con we had to switch to a "deluxe" room that was much roomier and modern. We actually found the economy room more charming- the deluxe room felt like a Radisson- nice but generic. One big difference though was the deluxe rooms beds were MUCH comfier.

Just across the street from trolley which was convenient.Staff was sweet. One star off for the frigid pool. A big pull for us to stay there was the supposed heated pool but it was cold and we're not sissies.

I am down with this inn. It's small, but clean. The facilities are well kept, and the staff is super friendly and informative. They don't bother you unless they really have to, so I was just left alone, which was exactly what I wanted. They also have a complimentary breakfast with fruit, cereal, tea, coffee, waffles, pastries, toast, and bagels. There's a swimming pool and lots of free channels.

Minuses? There's only one, jenky vending machine, and they ended up charging me for a map, even though they didn't tell me it cost money when they just handed it to me. Their wi-fi also didn't work either, but I've experienced this with a lot of hotels with free wi-fi.

Otherwise, I would come back. It's directly across from the MTS transit station and my USD shuttle, so it was a really convenient place to stay. Also, it's next to a bunch of great restaurants and destinations (all within walking distance too). If you're here for AP by the Sea training, it's about $70 a night. You can't top that.

    1. really nice staff and fast check-in

    3. Really convenient location. Many good restaurants and attractions nearby
    4. Free parking, Free Wi-Fi, free breakfast (muffins, waffles, eggs, and cereal), free coffee!!!

The only con is that the towels were not clean and comfortable. My face had red dots after using it once.

    What a lovely inn!
I absolutely loved my experience at this place.

    1.  Check-in was quick and easy.  Major plus.

    2.  The rooms are comfortable and homey.  We got the basic room and it had a flat screen tv, DVD player, small table, bed, small vanity, a closet, drawers, and a shower.

    3.  The bed is COMFORTABLE.  That's a rarity in hotels/motels.  And the pillows are comfy!

    4.  Free movies for you to check out?! How amazing is that?  They have a wide variety of movies to choose from as well.  Just pick out the movie and take it to the desk.

    5.  Free breakfast from 6-10AM.  It includes bagels, fresh fruit, cereal, waffles, pastries, bread, coffee, hot chocolate, orange juice... I was in breakfast heaven.  They even provide disposable plates/cups for you if you wish to eat breakfast in your room!

    6.  Check out was quick and easy.  Another major plus.

Another thing I absolutely loved was the small brochure they give you with your room keys tucked inside.  It lists amenities they have, as well as hours for the pool, and any small thing you could think of.

In the room, they have little notes everywhere.  There's one on the bed that talks about conserving energy, so they leave the air conditioners off in unoccupied rooms.  And it gives you an option of leaving it on when you leave for the day, or letting the maids turn it off when they come to clean up.  They have one in the bathroom about giving you the option of re-using your towels or requesting new ones - simply by putting the towels in a designated area.  They have a welcome letter on the drawer by the TV - such a cute touch - as well as brochures to get you familiarized with your surroundings.  They even give you a menu for a pizza delivery place they recommend!

Whenever I return to San Diego, I'll for sure be staying at this place.  I loved every detail of this inn!

As the other reviews state, the people who work here are cool, and it's clean and attractive, if not in the ideal area for visiting San Diego.

You can walk to the Old Town area and the trolley. Anything else requires a car.

I didn't get excited about the breakfast--fruit was thin on the ground, the bagels and bread were low-quality, and I don't dig waffles. But it was free--I had a danish and coffee.

Mainly, what makes this place great value is the friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness, free parking right by your room, and the fact that the bed and pillows are very good.

For the price, this place was great!! This review is a little late, I actually stayed here a few nights back in 2010, booked for a great price through Hotwire.com - I think ~$40/night, split between two people! I still remember it well enough to write this though, and as I'm currently in SD and reviewing things, might as well catch up on this one...

Old Town location, clean and spacious room (two big beds), great for coming back and relaxing in. Was verrry satisfied with the complimentary hot American breakfast with the waffle maker, drinks, pastries, fruit and assortment of items. The atmosphere too is really nice - one time we ate inside, the next day we ate outdoors next to the pool, next to the garden greenery and under the palm trees. Outer decor is a little cheesy to match the Old Town location, but hey, it makes you feel like you're vacaying!

As mentioned already, has a nice pool, also has wifi and free parking. And again, the breakfast. I lahv free hot breakfast!! Only cons are location - I remember it was creepy trying to find this place, cause it's kind of along this deserted strip near the highway. I got really confused when first trying to find the place. And of course, not as fun or as convenient as staying in downtown. But still, it's within 5 miles of most things in SD, not too bad if you bring a car, and the price is much more affordable with all the perks of a smaller, comfy place.

Okay, I'm not going to say that this is the nicest hotel around. It isn't going to wow you at all; you're not going to look back and think, "That was the nicest room I've ever slept in.", but the rooms ARE clean. I walked barefoot in the room and never felt that weird, wet, slimy feeling that some motels (apparently I've been going to the wrong motels..) have.

The staff are excellent. They don't give you crap, they don't have attitudes. They seem to genuinely want to help you. I was drying laundry and they locked the door at 11..I came back, looking for a key to unlock the door, and they quickly helped me.

They have a pretty neat movie library. You can check out two DVDs at a time. There were some oddballs in here, too..and had we not booked up our entire weekend with activities, we would have spend more time in bed, watching  our way through their collection.

Breakfast - For some reason, people go CRAZY about hotel breakfasts. I found this one to do the job nicely. There was coffee, OJ, oatmeal, tea, muffins, bagels, fruit, hardboiled eggs and a waffle maker. No, there isn't toast and eggs and bacon, but who cares? It saved us at least $60 for the four days we were there.

The heater in our room didn't work the first night. We tried to turn it on, and it started smoking. (The smoke detectors work well!) We called down to the front desk to tell them, and the receptionist said that she would put in a work order for the morning. I thought to myself, "Well, that's great, but we just get to be cold tonight?"..and 15 minutes later, she personally shows up to apologize, with extra blankets. Classy. I can't even dock them a star, because they handled it well. (Maintenance did come the next morning and we had heat the rest of the stay.)

Laundry Room - It's kinda grungy and really small. Check the dryers - the drums are filthy. Use the bottom one, it's cleaner. I know a lot of people probably don't do laundry here, but I think this would have gotten five stars from me if it were cleaner and had room for more than one family at a time to do laundry here. (Go to Ralph's and buy a bottle of soap for $1.99 if you're planning on doing more than one load. Cheaper.)

This is a tiny nag, and I'm not deducting any stars for it, but it'd be nice if housekeeping would leave more than one bottle of shampoo. It sucks to have to go down to the office to beg for more supplies. I understand that they probably have a ton of waste, or people hoarding supplies.

Parking - it wasn't an issue most of the time, but at night, parking got to be a little ridiculous.

The strangest thing to me was the kitchenette - not the kitchenette itself, but they leave a note saying that if you'd like to utilize it during your stay, to ask them for a Kitchen Pack, which has plates, silverware, etc in it. We asked them for one, and they brought up a huge bin of various kitchen utensils, along with a dirty sponge in there, but no soap, and no way to wash them. We didn't touch them, and all we wanted were plates. I guess it was a misunderstanding, but it kinda weirded me out a little.

All in all, I really liked this place and will be staying here the next time we come to San Diego. It felt safe, they're pet friendly (which we like), clean,  and the service was personalized.

Great, quiet little place by Old Town and the Valley View Casino Center. They provide a delicious continental breakfast every morning including baked goods, waffles, eggs, and more! Room was clean, shower was hot, and free DVD rentals! The pool seemed nice but it was a bit too cold out to enjoy. Very hospitable and the management was extremely pleasant. Would definitely stay here again next time we're in San Diego. Price was great as well! Very cozy and intimate.

Excellent customer service and staff.  There were minor mishabs with our room here and there but other then that we slept peacefully.  The staff responded quickly to all problems and were accommodating in every way.

We stayed at an economy 2 full beds room last week, Thursday. The customer service at the front desk is great, very courteous staff. The lobby area is very cozy and welcoming. The parking was a challenge because it was pretty much full yet I was able to find a space in the back. My first impression once inside the room was the cleanliness. Yet, when I lifted one of the comforters I found two hairs on the bottom side of the comforter. The blankets have small holes all over, oh no. Yet, other than that, all was fine. The breakfast in the morning is decent (waffles, cereals, sweet bread, eggs, fruit, milk, orange juice, coffee, etc.). The dining area is lovely.

As reviewed in Trip Advisor - Well trained staff, very clean hotel! Staff gave 2 days discount for a problem with our toilet - no suction because previous guests threw in 2 bottles of hotel shampoo! Maintenance took care of problem next day and staff gave us key to an empty room so that we could use the toilet.

Staff also took time to ask about our visit to the zoo.

Room - family suite for 4 kids and 2 adults - very clean and request for plates & utensils for the kitchen all ready before we checked in.

Excellent location - near to Point Loma and Mitch Seafood, deep-sea fishing landing, Old Town (10 minutes walk) and Balboa Park.

I decided to book a room at the Old Town Inn again when I was visiting San Diego, only because my first stay here was pretty awesome. But I booked a bigger room this time.

Their beds are comfortable, rooms are clean, and it's really affordable. The location is not bad' it's fairly close to everywhere I wanted to go to while I was in SD. The staff is very helpful,  friendly, and very accommodating- which is definitely a plus! They have a complimentary continental breakfast from 6-10am. Who can complain about that? Although I wish I woke up on time to make it to the breakfast... ha. OH YEAH, they also have free parking. So great.

My only small complaint was that 2 different house keeping employees knocked at our door when we had requested a extention to our check out time. Nothing worth knocking a star off for their rating tho.

They have a very good continental with fruit, bagels, cereal, waffles, hard boiled eggs, danishes, etc.  The coffee was good, my wife's only complaint about the coffee was the absence of flavored creamers - not enough to lose a star.

I have the bill in front of me we had a economy queen , the room was clean and comfy, no frills, it did have a large flat screen with cable ( a treat for us!).  Our total was (67) plus tax (7) and SD tourism (2) was $76 (AAA discount).  Hard to top that!

What a great little inn!  As other reviewers have said, they offer a great breakfast spread with your room -- including fresh fruit, bagels and cream cheese --plus all the normal stuff.

They also have an onsite laundry room if you need to freshen some of your traveling clothes -- we stayed for 4 nights in the middle of a 3 week vacation, so this was very welcome.

Easy directions to everything in San Diego are available at the desk -- and the whole staff is very helpful.  Lovely property -- homey atmosphere -- close to SeaWorld, Balboa Park, and the Old Town area!  Great!

Convenient location, free parking, decent free continental breakfast w/ diy waffles, free WiFi, clean (enough) room... all at a decent price. Also has a heated (although I thought it was kinda cold) pool. Loved that the outdoor area was well maintained and clean. I saw them clean the pool every morning during our stay.

Bed was on the lumpy side, which I actually thought was very comfy since I am a side sleeper.

While the location is on the outskirts of Old Town on a busy, industrial street, the OTI is within walking distance to OT. Seemed safe enough and I was surprised at how quiet the area was. I'd be happy to stay here again.

We had no problems checking in or out at all. The breakfast was also quite delicious. They had a make your own waffle set up as well as a bunch of other things!

The only reason I'm rating 4 stars is because when we went down to the pool there were no towels so we called the front desk and asked them to bring some. They were very nice and said yes so we got in the pool to swim. 45 minutes later still no towels and stuck in the pool haha. They eventually brought then after about an hour. My husband has officially banned me from booking hotels.  I was expecting something different from the reviews I read.

I didn't find it comfortable, it was cramped for 2 people, I guess you can call that Cozy.  One of our beds was sunken in, I also found it very dated.  The walls are very thin, we had to call the front desk at 4 AM to ask them to call our neighbor because we could hear them talking - not super loud but we could hear them all night!

Yes, it's inexpensive, the location is convenient to Old Town, Seaworld, a trolley or 2 from Gaslamp.  Great breakfast in the morning.  I do agree that it is perfect if your on a budget.

I "moved" to this hotel from another hotel since I extended my vacation.  A little bit of heaven in a light industrial area, yet a five minute walk to Old Town and a couple of minutes walk to the Old Town Transit Center; Trolley, bus, Amtrak and Coaster trains.  The hotel offers a free breakfast in a nice dining area, clean pool and the usual hotel ammenities including free wi-fi, works goods but will be improved in the near future and there is truly a personal touch that exists here and you (at least me) feel very welcomed and safe. The grounds as well as the rooms are spotless.  There are plenty of stores and restaurants nearby, Target, etc, but if you're walking it's a little far.  Most of the restaurants in Old Town are geared to the tourist crowd, others can be found on Sports Arena Blvd, again if you have a car.  The airport is five minutes away, but there is no airplane noise.  A pretty impressive property for being privately owned, something you will NOT see anytime soon on Hotel Impossible!!

Awhile back, I booked this hotel for Color Run. Got there last nite. I had no problem checking in. The staff was nice. The pool wasn't open; oh well, it was cold. I don't think someone would wanna jump in. It is not a chain hotel, which I like. The price was affordable. Whenever I called to ask about room availability, the staff gave me a nice and warm greeting, which not many chain hotel can do it. They offer free breakfast! No joke, u don't get it with other chain hotels. The dining area is nice and clean. My rm was two beds. The only think I didnt like much was the size of the rm. Felt a bit jammed and the the shower rm was a bit small. Yet, I felt lining sheets were clean. Plus, carpet was fairly good. I don't know about the environment much. Yet, it located in some area that I don't feel its super nice but that didnt bother me much.

    Stayed here 2 nights
Very pleased with this hotel ..... CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN !!
    Very friendly staff...
Free wi-Fi, free DVD player and movies , free breakfast
Soft beds , pillows and towels
Only negative would be rooms a little thin between rooms , can hear the next room . There is outside road noise and a train that goes through ... But certainly not too loud to sleep

I would definitely come here again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it

Great value for the money .

We spent 3 nights at the Old Town Inn during Thanksgiving. We had a great time.  The staff are very friendly and helpful. My kids loved making waffles in the morning and playing with the dinosaur while I was asking questions and getting directions at the reception. They also enjoyed being able to pick a movie in the evenings from the free DVD library.
We didn't try the pool but it looked really nice.
It's a very reasonably priced hotel with many ammenities to make your stay really comfortable.
    We will be coming back.

While having traveled a lot for work over the years, I tend to stay away from places like this for the simple fact that what you will get is somewhat unknown.

The Old Town Inn, was a pleasant surprise. While not lavish or over the top, it met our needs, the rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was free and that's really the only exciting part. I do enjoy the self made waffles but everything else was simply mediocre. Even though it's considered part of Old Town, it's on the cede side of the freeway which is a negative, but if you are visiting the area and planning to venture out, it's a quick hop on the freeway to anywhere!

I would recommend it for the value and quaintness of the establishment.

Nice room. Good service. They kept it clean. Free wifi. Beds were a little too firm (the bas firm not good firm), and it was close to the freeway so we heard a lot of noises and woke up a lot.

For a busy holiday weekend, it wasnot a bad place to stay and decent price.

Never have I been to an inn or hotel where the people seemed to care about their business like the Old Town Inn. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Free parking and breakfast. If you come in at night it seems like you are in the wrong place because it is surrounded by more industrial looking buildings including the massive Naval Space and Warfare Command building across the street. But worry not worry traveler the cleanest rooms youve seen in an inn are waiting for you. Oh and be sure to take your breakfast and enjoy the weather by the pool.

My husband booked a room here for our anniversary staycation. We enjoyed the experience entirely.

The front desk staff was warm and accommodating at check in and check out.

Our cottage room was spacious and clean. It was nicely furnished and modern. The gas fireplace and jacuzzi tub were relaxing and luxurious. The bed was incredibly comfortable! Neither of us have slept better in a long time. The pillows were heavenly. I even snapped a pic of the tag so that I can buy some for us.

This is a great little hidden gem, unassuming on the outside but fantastic on the inside.

Just checked out after a 5 nights stay at this wonderful place. My wife found this place thru Yelp and am glad she was persistent about staying here. At first I was a bit hesitant, as it is only a 2-star hotel, but after reading the bad experiences from other fellow yelp-ers in other 3/4/5 star rated hotels, we decided to give this one a try.

From the time of the booking to the time of check-out, the front desk personnel were always very courteous and helping. They were more than willing to arrange for a late checkout (even though it was AHIMA conference week in San Diego). And after we checked-out, when we asked if they could keep our luggages while we roam some more before we catch the Amtrak train back to LA, they shocked us by giving numbered baggage tags !

The complimentary breakfast spread was very reasonable. But the surprising part was they allow guests to take the breakfast items to their rooms ! Nowhere have I seen complimentary breakfast buffet to be taken to rooms.

The rooms were very clean and had all the items in good working condition. The A/C unit was a bit noisy (old?) but we were not bothered by it as we didnt need to switch it on much.

The location of the hotel is strategic. You will appreciate it more if you were to come to San Diego thru Amtrak. It is just a 5 min walk from the OldTown Transit center where Amtrak lets you out. And if you dont drive a car (like yours truly), then you will all the more appreciate its location as tons of Trolley and Buses are available from the same OldTown Transit centre to various attractions...almost all of them except the Safari Park are accessible very easily.

The WiFi was not great. It was a moderate connection. I was able to play some small videos once in a while but other than that it was nothing great to write about.

Only thing that I did not like about the inn is that it is NOT an enclosed compound ! The buildings with the rooms are accessible straight from the Pacific Highway !!
Considering that there are some homeless people sleeping on the sidewalks of the Pacific Highway, it was all the more concerning. But we just had to trust the San Diego law enforcement and hope that nothing untoward would happen. Not a single homeless person bothered us during our stay (either at the inn or in San Diego in general), though we saw couple of them in every bus/train station we went to.

We stayed for two nights. It was a very pleasant experience. We got there early and they allowed us to check in early since we had our toddler with us that had just made the long drive. Anna who is the woman at the front desk had the best customer service I have ever received at a hotel. She was so kind and warm and just seemed happy to have us. I love that not only do they have a DVD player in the rooms but the have FREE DVD's you can check out for as long as you want. The room was very clean and very nice. The free breakfast in the morning was delicious. The pool was nice and refreshing. The price was very generous and I thought the location was great. This place was packed and I can see why. It is a great place to stay!!! We will be back. The worst part of my stay was having to leave.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed a relaxing Labor Day weekend in Old Town San Diego at this Hotel. The rooms were very clean, the staff attentive & helpful and although the location was semi-industrial we wanted this location because it is central to those attractions we wanted to visit. We loved having the lobby breakfast each morning - allowed us to take our time before we began our leisurely day.

Stayed here recently on an overnight trip to the area. Customer service was excellent, however once we reached our room we found it to be stale and very stuffy. The one window did not open and they were completely booked so we could not change rooms. On arriving home we found an additional $100 charge on the credit card for smoking in the room. That's funny we Do NoT smoke!!!  After discussing the charge with the Inn they refused to refund the extra charge.

I've been using Yelp for about 2 years now to find restaurants, hotels, etc but this is the first time I've found a place that left such a great impression I would have felt guilty if I didn't leave a comment! Old Town Inn gets: cleanliness and hospitality. The hotel is beautifully maintained!! The room decor is average a little old -not tired or ran down just not up to date, but our room (310) was spotless. It's like I cleaned it myself !  The front desk was super helpful!! We asked where we could buy cheap beach towels to take to the beach because so many hotels do not like you to take tier towels to the beach. The front desk receptionist told us where we could go but then said (without me asking) "ma'm we have beach towels you can use if you like" I was floored. They offered without my asking!! The landscaping is so lush!! And the pool was perfect!!  If ur in the San Diego area this is a wonderful place to stay!!!

P.S. Make sure to try Perry's cafe for breakfast -appx .5 miles away :-)

I wouldn't recommend this place for a romantic get away, but it's perfect for a short stay if you're on a budget.  It's probably one of the best deals you'll find in San Diego area.  Most of the hotels were going for about $200/night.  This place was only about $95 (about $87 with AAA) for their economy rooms.  The economy rooms don't have certain amenities like kitchen, fridge, and microwave, but that didn't bother us since we were just staying for a short period.  Although the immediate area near this place isn't all that, it's close to Sea World, about 10 minutes away from Gaslamp District and the Zoo, and within walking distance to Old Town.  It's practically across the street although I don't think I would walk there late at night.  It may be fine but the area near the hotel looks kind of shady.

Our room was a decent size and had flat screen TV, a DVD player, and a blow dryer.  They even have some DVD movies in the lobby to check out if you want.

Continental breakfast is served from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.  It's mostly bagels, toast, cereal, and some pastries.  One cool thing is you can make your own waffles, although the line can get kind of long.

They also sell discount tickets to the zoo and Sea World.  We saved about $4 per ticket to the zoo and the ticket also covered bus tour and Skyfari aerial tram.

Only main complaint is our room was located next to the main road so it was kind of noisy from the traffic.

I was a little afraid that I'd be let down after all the good reviews.... but I was not disappointed in the least!!!
As soon as we went into the lobby we were greeted by a really friendly front desk lady, Anna. She was super sweet and made us feel super comfortable.
The grounds are well kept and the room is just as clean. We stayed in an economy queen room for one night and it was definitely a nice size. (I mean, "economy" is in the description, so you know not to expect nothing luxurious). Nonetheless,  it was really clean. My husband and I had a really bad experience some years back with a hotel in Hawaii that had bed bugs, so now As soon as we walk in the first thing we do is check the bed for bugs (paranoid maybe, but better safe than sorry). Anywho... no bed bugs in sight! Woo Hoo. The bathroom was pretty clean too. In  other hotels around this price range, I've seen at least some type of rusting in the shower heads or toilets but this hotel had none of that.
I didn't try the breakfast nut my husband had their waffles and he loved them.
The only "eh" parts about this place is that we could hear the doors open and close in adjacent rooms and the location looks a bit industrial (but super close to Old Town).  If/When we come back to Old town SD, we'd for sure stay here!!

My husband and I attempted to make a reservation online for labor day weekend.  I had read really great things about this hotel so we thought we would give it a shot.  I was able to make the reservation online for myself, husband, and 9 yr. old daughter.  We booked an "economy" room with 2 full sized beds.  Great! Looking forward to it.  A few days later my husband got a call from someone there saying that we needed to either upgrade our room for an additional $150 (WHAT?!) OR cancel our reservation.  They did not allow 3 people in the room we booked.  Of course the next logical question would be WHY?  I clearly put 3 people down when I made the reservation, the online system never gave me an alert or warning that this could cause a problem.  The "lady" who called my husband said it would have been better to have called to make the reservation.  Funny, because before I made the reservation online we did try calling only to be put on hold for a very very long time and then to have the person get back on the phone and tell us they were too busy to help us right then.

They have lost a potential repeat customer, we have now had to cancel our weekend plans as paying an additional $150 really pushed us out of our budget and since they weren't willing or able to bend on the price we didn't have a choice.  I will not be recommending your "hotel" to any of my friends or family which is a shame since we spend a lot of weekends in San Diego.  Your Loss!

Clean hotel. Room was comfortable and good size. A little outdated furnishings, but not too bad. I think shower was made for hobbits. Im 6 feet tall and had to stoop down to wash my hair. Landscaping is good for area they are located in. Surrounding area not attractive, but is walking distance to shopping and some dining. Wouldnt want to be out there after dark though. Male clerk checking us in seemed to rush us a little, and not as his female co-worker who was checking another guest in. He descibed about 1/3 of what I overheard other clerk descibed to guest. Breakfast was just OK, but it was free, so cant complain. Was very crowded in dining area however, which is why I guess they let you take food to your room. Overall, hotel didnt warrant the 4 1/2 star average, but wasnt bad either.

My Husband and I stayed for a long weekend in their only Jacuzzi Suite. We checked in on a Thursday about an hour before check in time, and our room was available. The two front desk girls were super nice! Our room was very clean, spacious, and exactly as pictured in previous reviews. It is in the cottage part. I used the jacuzzi every night, and even used the fire place once. There were plenty of clean towels, soap, and shampoo, they don't offer conditioner, however they had some when I asked the front desk. I'm a smoker, and the hotel is a non smoking facility, however, they had two locations to smoke, one in the pool area and one near the front lobby. They offer a DVD library, we checked out a few movies. Most are oldies but goodies. The free continental breakfast was good, they offered waffles, bagels, pastries, cereal, fruit, hard boiled eggs, orange juice and coffee. On Friday it was pretty empty however on the weekend, there were a lot of people partaking so we decoded to take it to our room. The only few things I would suggest to change, is the parking, during the week there is plenty, but on a weekend, if you aren't back by 6, good luck finding any. Our bed was uncomfortable, have my Husband a backache every morning, also our shower in the jacuzzi suite only has a partial door, so it would get very cold when in the shower.
It is very close to old town, a quick ten minute walk. The neighborhood is an industrial area, but a little shady after dark. I would suggest driving after the sun goes down.
Would I recommend this place, yes

I finally settled for Old Town Inn after reading a lot of great reviews, but deep down I was worried that it wouldn't live up to the hype. I was wrong.

We checked into our room and it was very neat. The beds were like fluffy heaven! They were really comfortable and warm. The room was very spacious. I really liked that it had two sinks. One inside the bathing area and another one outside. When you bunk with women you know you all need that space to get ready so no one is fighting over the mirror. Ha!

The continental breakfast was good. But if you're looking for a hearty meal then I suggest you hit up a local restaurant. The  staff was very friendly and amazing. We got in late on a Saturday night, we really wanted to go swimming and one of the staff members was nice enough to let us swim for a couple of minutes before they closed the pool for the night. I highly recommend Old Town Inn, this will be my go to place every time I'm in town.

The customer service here is horrible and the ladies at the front desk have no respect for the customers. I stayed here when I was in San Diego for my friend's wedding in October.  It's a super cute establishment, well maintained, nice gardening, and had everything I needed for my stay.  The maids were great & did a fantastic job (even waiting to clean my room until i left for the wedding), the continental breakfast was the best I've ever had (fresh pancakes, fresh waffles, hard boiled eggs, fairly good coffee, fresh orange juice, oatmeal with toppings, toast, bagels, danishes, muffins, cereal, fresh fruit, etc), the folks at the reception desk were always friendly, the price for the room was very reasonable, it's centrally located near shopping (which was perfect because I needed to pick up a few last minute things), and it's easy to get to/from the highway.  I would definitely stay here again :)

I stayed here one weekend in 1984. Yes, you read that right - 1984. Of all the things I liked about San Diego, when asked, I've always said Old Town and the cute, little motel we stayed in. So, I'm planning a trip to awesome SD in July and I need a place that takes a big dog. Not for one second  did I think I'd actually find the place from 1984 but here it is! And it sounds as great as ever. So you can bet your bippy, if betting your bippy is legal in your neck of the woods, I am certainly going to try and stay here again!

This is my go to place in San Diego, I have been coming here for years.

Yes, it is in a very odd place, but because it is so close to a trolley stop, it is a fantastic place to base yourself in San Diego. We always stay here for Padres weekends.

The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are clean and the staff is friendly and helpful, they always let us check in early if the room is available.

There are so many choice of rooms here, I prefer the old cottage rooms, but if they are not available, the economy rooms are nice.  Beds are always comfortable.

They seem to keep there prices reasonable, and the availability is generally good.  I always call direct to book here, they actually answer their phone on the second ring with a real person.  I do not believe they are available on the large booking engines, which probably keeps there prices low.

Everything about this place met our 'yelp' expectations. For under $100 in San Diego, there are no complaints. We arrived early and our room was available. Breakfast was good. Very close to Old Town and the trolley. The reason why we aren't giving 5 stars, falls on housekeeping. There are two of us, they replenished the bath towels but only gave us 1 hand towel and no wash clothes. Also, hair dryer did not work, we left a note, came back to same broken hair dryer. Besides the minor deficits, we would return!

Everything from the floors to the shower and everything in between! A/C worked great! Little rough to find parking in the evening but not too bad. We stayed at Old Town Inn for 3 nights this past July 4th holiday weekend. An average of $110 per night for a double bed economy room split between two people was an excellent deal, especially for a two-star hotel rating.

    ROOM --
Old Town Inn has a variety of rooms to suit different guests' needs. There are room options that are more family-oriented and then there are cheaper options that are more suitable for couples. Our double-bed economy room was small, but still spacious for the two of us. The beds and pillows were very soft and comfortable. Our room only had a shower (no tub) and we didn't have any issues with water temperature adjustments. Our room didn't include a microwave or refrigerator. But there was a useful air conditioner and a nice flat screen TV (although quality wasn't very clear).

Continental breakfast is served daily from 6am to 10am. The selection isn't very extensive, and it's the same options every day. If you're staying at Old Town Inn for more than one week, you'd probably get tired of the food. Breakfast options included waffles, cereals, bagels, toast, muffins, pastries, fresh fruit, oatmeal, (cold) hard-boiled eggs, orange juice, coffee, and tea. There are take-out plates and bowls if you want to eat breakfast in your room instead.

The heated pool is open daily from 7am to 10pm. It's a relatively small pool, so it's not meant for laps, but rather for relaxing after a long day of sightseeing. Its deepest end is only 5 feet. There are also plenty of chairs and tables surrounding the pool, for you to sit and relax or tan.

There's free and fast WiFi. In the lobby, there is a single desktop computer for guests to use, as well as a printer (which is very convenient, especially for printing your boarding passes!) There are a lot of helpful sightseeing brochures as well, including ones to the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Coronado Island, horseback riding, and kayaking at La Jolla. They offer free DVD rentals and board games as well. Also, during non-breakfast hours, the lobby has free coffee, tea, and iced water (which was sometimes fruit-infused with strawberries and pineapple).

There is free, though limited, on-site parking. We came back to the hotel by 10 or 11pm every night, and found on average less than five spaces left. There was one night that we grabbed the last available spot. However, if Old Town Inn's lot is completely full, there is nearby street parking.

Located right off the Pacific Highway, it was a little noisy with all the cars passing by at night. (Our room was the second room closest to the street.) I consider myself a heavy sleeper, but the cars still kept me up a few times during the night. I even asked the front desk if they offer ear plugs, but unfortunately they didn't. However, I found the AC to be somewhat helpful with drowning out the sound from cars. But because Old Town Inn is located right off of Pacific Highway, it was very convenient getting onto I-5 whenever we needed to. The hotel is also a 10-minute drive from the zoo and Sea World, and it's not too far from the airport as well.

    STAFF --
Overall the staff is very professional and friendly. I spoke with Beatriz on the phone, confirming my online reservation before my check-in date. Cecily checked us into our room, gave us complimentary goodie bags that included toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, etc, and she also gave us some helpful information on where and how to get to downtown to see the Big Bay Boom fireworks show on July 4th. Gilda checked us out of our room very quickly, and we were on our way. Housekeeping always came after 10am for us, and we always came back to a clean room with made-beds, clean towels, and new soaps/shampoo.

Booking a room online from their website was a hassle because the reservations page kept crashing. I would recommend calling them instead. Your credit card isn't charged until check-out. If I ever go back to San Diego, I would stay at Old Town Inn again, ONLY if I can get the double economy room again. The rate for that room is such an incredible deal. Of course, I would remember to bring my own ear plugs...

I haven't been to SEAWORLD and thought it would be great to visit and explore this place on a Monday of March 2.  It was raining really hard that day.  Instead of going straight to Seaworld, we decided to try if we can have an early check-in.  It was very kind of lady who assisted us to check us in and offered a free breakfast.  How cool was that?
    I love our room.
    It's clean.
    It's kinda newly renovated.
    Toiletries are neat with design.
Parking is right in front of our room.
Near Old Town but we're not able to visit the place.
    Sheets were clean.
    Bathroom is clean.
Breakfast:  waffle, juice, coffee, cereals, fruits, toasted bread, bagel and so on.

Should I recommend this place to a friend? YES.
Would I come back here? YES. I hope we can get a good deal with the Jacuzzi Suite.

I'm sorry to write a negative review, since I agree that the staff was very nice and accommodating.

However, we had one of the worst stays while we were in SD couple of months ago.  The room was very clean, but had a faint smell of bleach on the sheets, pillowcases and the room in general.  It actually gave me a mild headache.

Also the walls are thin.  I mean, very thin.  We woke up couple of times during the night because of people talking outside our door, and we woke up early due to some people jumping (I'm assuming kids) in the room above us.

The location is not good in the immediate area.  There is no shops/restaurants that you can walk to, and it definitely is not an area where I'd go around jogging.  Driving-wise, I believe it's close to old town and other attractions.

I think this is a great place if you're looking for an affordable lodging for a family, but not for a couple looking for a nice quiet getaway.  For the price, it's a really good deal, but I think I'd pay a little more next time and stay at a place where I could sleep through the night... sorry.

This place is cute, the staff is courteous, the beds are comfy, the rooms are clean, the rates are cheap, and the breakfast is continental. I think I used enough C-words to describe this place! It's close to Old town and TJ so it's a nice location. And it's quiet. I will definitely stay here the next time I'm in town!

We had reservations for 5 nights but the first night there was an emergency at home and we had to cancel the rest of our stay. Most places would charge us for the remaining nights but here they cancelled it without ANY hassle and with a smile.

The room itself was large and very clean. Decent breakfast included. Although this is a light industrial area, it is an easy 5 minute walk to Old Town San Diego with a plethora of restaurants and shops.

I would definitely return to Old Town Inn!!

Great little hotel,no complaints. We got a suite,2 queen beds (very comfortable) ,refrigerator,tv,dvd player, microwave, coffee maker. Very clean room and bathroom with 2 sinks, love that.
Very, very nice staff. Coffee and hot water at all times, breakfast everyday @ 6 am,not memorable, but they offer it.
The area isnt the best, and it might throw people off,but the hotel itself is great.
Ah they have plenty of parking,FREE parking, not like the Hotel Circle Comfort Inn that charges $12 per care.

The 5 star rating is not because it's just as good as say, a nice resort. 5 stars is for the overall experience and I will explain why. First off, it's about your average outdoor access two-story motel. Beds are ok and the rooms are clean.
So here's the experience: I booked this hotel for 3 nights one weekend. Pretty good deal (around 70 a night). We get checked (2 adults) in and we were given a room on the side of the hotel and the room was about twice the size of the bed. No joke. Bathroom was TINY. so we go to the front desk and ask why the rooms were so small.... And their response was that's what we paid for; a small room. And to upgrade to your average hotel sized room was around 120 a night. I even showed pictures of the one i selected and I think they didn't have the right images matched up with the room I selected... And to top it off they were sold out. Somehow they did come across a room with 2 smaller beds we could have (even though I had paid for a king). We chose the smaller beds room and they didn't change the cost. Their customer service was the best I have ever experienced. And I live out of hotels for 6 months out of the year for my job.
Now onto the other stuff... This hotel is right across the street from the train station that takes you wherever you want to go in San Diego. This was the best part. Don't have to worry about the parking in downtown at all, traffic, etc. Also, it's a 5 min walk to old town San Diego.... Which is another awesome part of town. Tons of restaurants and shops.
So the overall experience started a little disappointing at first, but the staff was so quick to make sure I had the best stay possible.

Generally tired and smells of old linens. The shower works best if you are no more than 5'6", otherwise you can't easily wet your head. Walls are paper thin and road as well as neighbor noise very evident.

Poor housekeeping. I am sensitive to dust mites, and get itchy eyes when the linens and carpet aren't vacuumed well. This place had my eyes really itchy and red.

At 90 dollars, I wouldn't call it cheap.

This Old Town Inn has been recently been renovated. The staff was very nice and efficient in getting me to my room and answering question. The Bar was clean with a great staff providing the service. I will definitely stay again here when I have business in San Diego, CA .

DONT STAY HERE!!!!! If I could put no stars I would. This place was complete b.s. I had reserved two nights but they called the second day when i was halfway to sea world asking why I hadn't checked out. The second night was going to cost double the original price agreed on. it is right by the train tracks so the train is loud. Ruined a beautiful vacation. A complete waste of time and money.
If you are looking for a good dog friendly hotel, the wyndham gardens on sports arena st is far more preferable.

Good value, rooms are decent sized and clean. Breakfast was fine, pool nice and warm. Loved the barbecue grill at the pool, they even give you all the grilling tools at the front desk.

We really liked how they cleaned the rooms - they managed to get the place sparkling each time, without disturbing our stuff at all.

Staff is super friendly and professional. Location near Old Town is great - an easy walk.

Loved the library of free DVDs to watch in room.
    Got a great AAA rate.

    Will recommend this place.

This place was sooooo amazing.  From start to finish  this hotel was an awesome experience.  I had never been to San Diego  and this place made me and my bf feel exceptional all around.  The complimentary breakfast was good. The rooms were great  as well.  It came with a kitchenette  and the bed was sooooo comfortable. The staff were very  helpful and hospitable. I would  recommend  this place to anyone  new to San Diego and looking for a 5 star hotel. Thank you for making  my first experience  to San Diego a memorable one.

I have stayed here twice this year for romantic escapades and I have nothing negative to say about this hotel. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and much more elegant than you would expect. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and motivated. The free breakfast is nothing fancy but is quite tasty.

Thos hotel is a hidden gem. This hotel has the quality of one twice its rate, and In my humble opinion its the best in san diego in terms of value.

    Comfortable, clean and well priced.

Very impressed with the facility. Stayed in a deluxe queen double room on the 3rd floor. The room was very clean! Housekeeping is doing a wonderful job at keeping the rooms on point. I don't know if all rooms have a mini fridge and microwave but ours did.

Location isn't bad at all, 7 minute drive to Sea World. Pretty close to stores/mall and Old Town, 11 minute drive to Gas Lamp District. Airport isn't far at all, also not far from Stone Brewing Co. at Liberty Square. Pool area is nice and complimentary breakfast wasn't bad either.

Bed and pillows were comfortable too. This place is a hidden gem for those willing to drive a little bit to get to San Diego attractions. Overall it's a great stay for the price. Will definitely be coming back and staying here again.

    Basicly a nicer motel 6.

All rooms are non-smoking & the walls are extremely thin, they give you tiny soaps & shampoo (no conditioner). Free breakfast by the lobby, the best part is the make your own waffles. Parking spots are really small & both my husband & I drive trucks.

They also has discounted tickets for the San Diego Zoo and Seaworld.

I stayed at the Old Town inn for two nights to go to a convention about 8 minutes away. I reserved a room with two full beds having made my reservation in advance online a week prior. I arrived early (two hours before check in time) and luckily there was a room ready. When I made my reservation online I did ask for a room on their top floor to avoid people who like to stomp. Unfortunately there were no rooms like that available but the ladies at the counter did give me a room in one of the cottages which are one story. I was happy about this but a little worried since the cottages are attached and mine in middle section almost near the pool.

My room was fine. It was as described with a bathroom with standing shower, two full beds, a closet with an iron/ironing board, and a tv with DVD player.

Everything was fine until the first night. Around 7pm my neighbors got in. On one side the guy blasted his tv so the noise came through my wall. And on the other side it was much worst. I guess parents of an adult bipolar guy were staying next to me because the bipolar man kept complaining in a whiny voice about something while the parents tried to calm him. Luckily I heard though the wall that he had his own room somewhere else. The noise didn't end there. The parents still talked and laughed loud while watching tv. I had to turn on the room heater to try to block them out.

After getting a little sleep the previous night, I had the free breakfast in the dining room. It consisted of a make-your-own-waffle station, fruit, boiled eggs, cereal, pastries, oatmeal, juice, or coffee. A nice little selection which you can take back to your room if you didn't want to stay in the dining room.

My second night there was a little better. The loud parents and their "child" must have checked out because it was dead quiet that night (but I could hear someones heater/air conditioner humming away). Overall my stay wasn't too bad. The staff was nice, I had a good breakfast, they offer DVD's to check out and watch in your room, and etc. My only gripe was the really thin walls of my room. Would I stay again? Maybe. Their rates were better than other hotels and I would probably choose a room at the end of a building if possible.

This inn is completely remodeled, everything in the room was brand new (bath, vanity, etc.). Our room was HUGE! With two queen beds and more than enough room to move around, I appreciated the two separate vanities as well, with a teenage daughter and two adults getting ready at the same time. I could not have planned for a better location; we walked to Old Town for lunch and hopped on the trolley to the baseball game. The staff was courteous and very helpful, and seemed genuine and sincere when showing us where we were going on a map of Old Town or finding a place to order food later at night. The breakfast was also more than I expected. This was a pleasant stay in every way! We will definitely book again when we visit San Diego.

Short walk to Old Town and transit station, which will take you just about anywhere in San Diego without the hassle of finding and paying for parking!

Standard room for a standard price.

Clean and comfortable. Beds are firm, but smell and look clean.

Free "rental" from their DVD cabinet, or bring your own movies!

More than decent complimentary breakfast options.

Fairly quiet. Some traffic noise, to be expected.

    We would stay again!

Stayed here during Memorial Day Weekend with my husband and 2 of our dogs. Whenever we travel, we always like to bring our dogs with us (often times it is cheaper for us to do this instead of putting all of our dogs in a pet hotel). Whenever we visit San Diego, we usually stay at the Travelodge because it is cheap and in a fairly good location. But when planning our trip this time around, we both decided that we wanted to try another place and so after doing some research, we both thought staying at the Old Town Inn would be a great place.

Generally Old Town Inn is pretty affordable (usually $100 per night, but since we stayed during a holiday weekend it was $15-20 more a night which was still pretty reasonable, especially with the other pet friend hotels we searched, they were asking for more). This hotel comes with free wifi and a complementary breakfast every morning, which were a few other factors we wanted when we were searching hotels. Also the location is right across the street from the bus/ train/ trolley station and also Old Town San Diego is w/in a reasonable walking distance.

Check in and check out was very easy and painless. The woman who checked us in upon the 1st night was very friendly and told us that coffee, tea, water were available in the hotel lobby 24-7 and we were welcome to rent 2 DVDs from their library at a time (there is a DVD player in every room). They also sell popcorn at the front desk in case you didn't bring any of your own. Breakfast is also served each day until 10 am.

Afterwards, we finally headed to our room and brought up our luggage to our room on the 3rd floor. We stayed in a room w/ a king size bed, mini fridge and microwave. The room was clean and fully stocked w/ the usual (towels, soap, shampoo, etc). I liked that there was an additional sink that was outside of the bathroom so you can use it in case someone is using the bathroom.

It was nice that we could request no housekeeping service during our stay since we were with our dogs. We just don't want our dogs to be disturbed while we are gone (yes our dogs are very important to us... we care about their well being too). We were able to request for clean towels and other essentials any time.

The breakfast we had every morning was good, as it had the basics of hard boiled eggs, steel cut oats, make your own waffle section, bagels/ muffins, cereal and milk and also fruit (apples and oranges, and also sliced assorted fruit as well). There is seating in the breakfast area but you are also welcomed to take your food back to your room as well.

Overall, we had a very pleasant stay and would stay here again the next time we head to San Diego. But I would like to mention that the walls are thin, as we could hear the room of kids (I would say they are high school kids and younger) next to us as they would scream, laugh and such during the day. They would also run down the hallway which upset our dogs and that caused them to bark at them (even on vacation, they are still on duty protecting the home). Also wanted to mention that we had no problem w/ parking, as it was mentioned in a few previous yelp reviews. We would come back after 10 pm and still managed to find parking just fine (we did not nab up the last parking spot, so really parking isn't a problem here).

By the way, AAA members get an additional 10% off their entire stay and the pet fee is $15 per dog, per day (limit of 2 dogs per hotel room).

The Old Town Inn is a pretty nice spot for a low-key getaway to San Diego, if that's what you're looking for.

It's a third generation, family owned and operated San Diego business, which makes the service more personable and quaint. There's the typical hotel breakfast of, like, orange juice and a muffin. There's a pool. There's a DVD library in case you want to hang out in the room and watch movies (for free!).

If you want to head out, the hotel is located in a kind of hard-to-access industrial area, but it's very close to all the major San Diego attractions, i.e. SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park.

Because of its location, the hotel is quiet and chill. Our room was in the little cottage area out back -- it's separate from the rest of the hotel and feels more like staying in a cute duplex. I really liked it. The landscaping and architecture are also quite pretty.

Bottom line: the Old Town Inn is a cute, quiet place to relax off the beaten path in San Diego. Check it out.

Stayed here from April 17th-19th, 2015. This place is located right in between La Jolla and Downtown San Diego so it was nice and a little secluded. It doesn't have much to do around the area but everything is a quick drive away. It's very close to an airport too and surprisingly, it's a really quiet place.

The hotel itself is a little outdated. It has all the basics you'll need, nothing fancy or anything. So if you're looking for that, you can't go wrong especially for the price and service, which were both fantastic.

The staff that work there are nothing short of incredible. From check-in to check-out, top notch I have to say. I value this so much (like anyone else should) so I was very pleased to find out that everyone was great.

P.S. Don't forget to add your AAA card if you have it. Saving money is always nice haha.

After seeing the many positive reviews decided to stay here for our day trip to San Diego on the night of 4/25. Staff is friendly and check in and out was a breeze.

This is a cute older hotel with close freeway access within walking distance to all the cute shops and restaurants in Old Town or just a short walk over to the transit station if you want to go venture off without worrying about parking. The hotel does have free self parking and adequate space for the rooms offered, coming back at 1130 pm on a Saturday night we were able to find several available spots.

Clean room , bathroom, large closet space. Several little nearby areas to walk your pup to potty.

Very convenient location. The complimentary breakfast was ok.. Some fresh whole fruits, hard boiled eggs (over cooked however as the yolk had started to green so had that sulphuric smell/taste..), pastries , muffins, bagels, toast, waffle station and oatmeal with optional add ins. Coffee/orange juice.. Or option for hot water and hot chocolate. Plenty of seating. Definitely a nice snack option but I'd suggest checking out one of the local breakfast joints .

GREAT location to Old Town and just minutes drive to Down Town San Diego.  Stayed 4/17 - 4/19/15, room 136.

No complaints, clean rooms, bathrooms, and our economy room even came with a mini fridge and microwave. Pleasant surprise as our friends rooms did not. Great price, affordable and we will stay again. Got a Wedding Anniversary coming up in June.

I do recommend that you book a good ways ahead of time if you want a family suite or more premium room, they go quick.
