I stayed at this hotel in December 2008 but I'm just writing a review now since I'm new to Yelp.  This was my best hotel experience ever, though I rarely stay at super-nice places.  I am disappointed to learn that they have discontinued the fantastic breakfast experience which was the highlight.  Each morning we received complimentary continental breakfast at our door (we picked the time), and then dined out on our balcony while watching the ocean.  It was majestic!

Can't beat walking right out the back door onto the boardwalk.  Decor was a little hokey, but not bad.

Love the comfy new beds, they are so tall they even supply you with a stepping stool to get into bed. I have stayed here about twenty times in the past, we like the proximity to our work. We love to stay at the Pacific Terrace even though we live in the S.D. area. We joke that people spend big bucks to visit here.

First off, I went to this hotel because of the yelpers and thank you so very much! i had the best time and must say that it was one of the most beautiful hotels I've ever stayed in. It is beach FRONT and u can hear the water as u fall asleep and wake up...amazing. don't expect a HUGE hotel -- it is boutique style, but the rooms are spacious. we got upgraded for free to a suite that had a really cool bar with stools. the ambiance is hawaii and relaxation---uber clean. 4pm cookies! ice tea, lemonade and water downstairs. pool is warm and jacuzzi got cleaned out (water and all) while we were there so you know they do have upkeep as I've never seen that before. great staff. friendly. nice big balcony with good furniture. just done right. amazing sunset and location. i couldn't have been happier.

This is a beautiful location at a compromise. We stayed in the Executive suite room. The neighbors on all three sides were audible. It was disturbing to hear the upstairs occupants walk the length of their room at night. When we stay in a hotel quiet only comes second to the bed comfort and luxury. Unfortunately, this hotel left much to be desired. The bed was too firm and pillows too large and hard. The bed sheets were very scratchy and stiff. The brunch/breakfast was completely inedible. The pre-made "omelet" was a salty nightmare, the waffles were rubbery under the heat lamp, and the fruit was fermented and soggy. For a hotel with only 4 levels (including the garage) the elevator was excruciatingly slow, at least the stairs were somewhat accessible. The hotel does not even come close to having the right number of bikes for it's occupants to rent. The only redeeming quality of such an over priced hotel was the friendly staff. Needless, we will not be returning.

Great hotel with only one problem - they nickel and dime for parking

there is a $20 parking surcharge which they don't tell you about when booking online.

but otherwise its a great clean hotel right on the beach...

Pacifc Terrace was the hotel of choice for my 4 day getaway to San Diego.  Located right on top of Pacific Beach, this place is definately the place to stay at compared to the other places in PB.  I had booked one of the Executive Suites, because hey.. i like big rooms, and this one had a jacuzzi.    Our room, located on the 2nd floor, had a view of the ocean as well as the big building across the street.    2 queen beds, a 42" plasma, microwave, sink, spacious bathroom... everything you want from a hotel.

There's really nothing bad I can say about this hotel; the staff was pleasant, the rooms were nice, housekeeping didn't come until the time I specified.

There is Parking underground and they charge $15 a night.  I would definately spring for that, since the outside parking is not really that safe..  Breakfast comes with the room, although we decided to go to other places in PB to eat.

I would definately come back here again, for my next trip in SD, mebbe I'll go for an even bigger room...

From my experience, and what the other repeat visitors had to say : This is THE BEST hotel in Pacific Beach. The hotel is located near a ton of great restaurants, bars, clubs, and is just about 15 min drive from all major sight seing attractions in SD! Rooms are very nice, well kept, room service tends to them frequently. The pool is always the right temp, and the hot tub is just perfect for watching the sunset from the private fenced in pool patio. Staff is VERY friendly. There was a group of wild kids partying one night til 4a.m, and they quickly shut them up after I called the front desk. Keep in mind im in my mid twenties, but I love to sleep, so dont mess with my rest! The next afternoon they even phoned me to apologize and inform me that they had checked out for the night. THE WORST PART ABOUT THE HOTEL IS NO FREE PARKING. They charge you $20 a night which is absurd considering the nightly rates they charge. We visited in the off season, so STREET PARKING was abundant and very easy to acquire. They do have free lemonade and iced tea all day, and GREAT cookies haha! It is one of the more expensive hotels, but the hot tub makes up for the skinny wallet  ;)

a hotel is a hotel, they are all the same, why bother writing a review about one, they are all the same aren't they?  how wrong i was this time.

i actually stumbled across this place last minute to get a room - i mean last second - i just got off an overnight airplane and the taxi dropped me off on mission blvd and i was walking around at midnight looking for a pillow to rest my head.

i walked into the lobby, the concierge said i was lucky there was one room left - it had the following amenities blah blah blah wasn't even listening to him, a was about to go into a sleep deprivation coma.

i got into the room and noticed how huge it was.  everything was so new.  the decor was so nice.  the bed was so high i practically needed a step stool to climb into it.  wow that bed was soooo comfortable.

i woke up in the morning and noticed the most beautiful view of the ocean outside on the balcony.  it felt like i was at a 5 star boutique resort in the caribbean!!!

the best part about it is you are paying holiday inn prices for a 5 star experience.  next time i need to visit Pacific Beach i'll be booking this place in advance.

Very, very nice hotel.  We stayed 2 nights here to relax after 5 days of Disney, Universal, etc.  The rooms are nicely decorated and beds were comfortable.  The pool area was nice and access to the beach is excellent.  The staff treat you right.  Only reason for 4 starts instead of 5 stars: $20 per night to park.  Adding that in, along with taxes pushed the room rate to over $300 a night.

looooved this hotel!
its right on the beach, so location is amazing, the rooms are huge and pretty, awesome bath products, there is even a nightly turn down service.  contrary to the other reviews street parking is at no charge, the pool and jacuzzi are great.
if i may nit-pick, my ice bucket plastic bag was never replaced during my 4 days there and the walls are a bit thin and one night i was awoken to some errrr noises from the room next door around 2:30am.
there is internet in common areas but if you want it in your room it'll cost you $10 a day.
the breakfast is kind of a rip - they have a continental breakfast which is only included if you book your room directly through them and not a third party like priceline (which is what i did)otherwise its $6 and $7.50 for hot items - also you only get the complimentary wine if you book through the hotel direct as well.  like i said, these are minute cause the hotel rocks!

Me and my boyfriend went for a mini Vacation, I had researched hotels all over San Diego and this one stood out  . We arrived early to avoid traffic, our room wasn't ready (which was fine, we were 4 hrs early) the Concierge gave us a temp key for the hotel, directions for the pool, and parked the car. Note*** 20 dollars a day valet parking sooo worth it, in and out privileges and our car was ready by the time we got to the lobby. Our room was ready an hour early. The bellman brought up our luggage, cooler ect ect. We stayed in the St. Croix Suite 3rd floor center of the hotel, stunning view of the beach, sunset was breathtaking, Jacuzzi tub that was more than roomy. The entire experience was great and I can't think of a single downside.

(This is a review for our stay during 9/2006)

Comfortable room and amenities.  Tommy Bahama-esque decor.  We had a premium ocean view room/king suite.  TV over the jacuzzi tub, in the bedroom, and in the livingroom (so you wouldn't miss any moment of whatever you're watching, I guess).  Plenty of storage space for two ppl to hang out clothes and whatnot.  Gorgeous spacious double sink bathroom.  Internet was $10+ a day and they lend you the ethernet cable.  Parking was $15/day---good idea---we didn't feel comfortable leaving our car out, even though the area looked nice and safe.

Our suite had two good-sized balconies that offered very good view as well as privacy for sitting out and relaxing.  We could see the pool from the balcony for the bedroom but noise wasn't a problem indoors.  We loved being able to watch the sun go down, ppl walking on the beach, and hear the waves throughout the night (sliding doors open,  shutters on).  Good-sized livingroom with dining set, kitchen, plasma TV, sofa set, and workspace.  In fact, it was more than adequate room for the two of us.  It felt like a home away from home, not a hotel stay.

Room service was decent, not spetacular, and they forgot the grapefruit I ordered...but it was so comfortable and enjoyable we didn't mind.  We loved our stay.  So relaxing.  Glad we chose it for (my first) visit to the San Diego area.

Definitely would stay here again.  Would recommend it too.

I live locally and get rooms at Pacific Terrace when I have friends and family visit from out of town.  Great rooms, wonderful pool, everything first class all the way.  No restaurant or bar that I am aware of, but with so many places just a short walk down the beach, why would you want to eat hotel food anyway.

The location is unbeatable and the rooms are very nice.  My only complaint is the parking is too expensive.

If you book last minute they usually have "special" prices which range from $130-$170.

The ocean view rooms are absolutely worth it!

although i did not stay at the hotel, i did have a great experience with in house reservations, so this review is for those girls.

for the last two weeks i've probably bothered stephanie and reyna um.. 15 times? at least? i had a bunch of big people wanting to stay ocean side a specific number of miles from a specific address at a 4star+ hotel, and was told this a week and a half before departure. of the few "4 star" hotels in the small radius i had, pacific terrace was the one that had a handful of rooms left - and i think they had like 7 at the time? anyhow, my process involves calling, getting price quotes, asking 5000 stupid questions, hanging up, getting pricing approved, all the meanwhile getting 5000 more stupid questions to ask them, waiting, and then finally getting the go ahead to make the reservation, calling back, making the reservations, asking 5000 more stupid questions, setting up to prepay the reservation, of course having a credit card decline after paying off three of the rooms, sending in another credit card, having that one decline, sending in another one, having that one decline, etc, etc, etc etc.

stephanie and reyna were nothing but gracious, patient, and SUPER friendly throughout this entire process. eventually when calling, i could recognize their voices, and i just had to go "hi stephanie, its kat" and they would know exactly who i was.. :x this hotel reservation was one of 20+ things i had to get done to plan this trip, and these girls made it seamless for me.

my colleague who actually stayed in one of the room said their stay was lovely, but i cant give too much detail on that.

many thanks to stephanie and reyna, total assets to pacific terrace hotel!

My then fiance/now husband got a room here just by chance when we arrived in San Diego a couple days earlier than expected following a cross country road trip.  We booked the room on hotels.com the day before we arrived for a mere $120 (granted it was a Monday night in May) for the standard no-view room.  Boy did we luck out!
This hotel was fantastic.  We arrived right in time for "wine hour" by the pool (any place with free wine gets 5-stars in my book, but there's more!) , the room was HUGE, and the staff made a great recommendation to walk to Gringo's for dinner (it was 2 for 1 Monday Margarita night!).  We relaxed in the jacuzzi that evening and spent the following day at the beach right in front of the hotel.  Awesome!
We liked it so much we're hoping to get a room for our 1-year wedding anniversary/belated honeymoon coming up in August.  I probably won't be able to get the deal I got last minute last time, but this hotel is definitely worth a little spending...

I would give this place 5 stars but;
-$20 for parking
-They don't have the continental breakfast anymore
-They don't have the pool side happy hour anymore
-If you need any info from the Manager you can never get a call or email back.

We have stayed here 8 times in the last year and a half and we love this place. Book threw hotels.com . Always book last minute for fall, spring and winter. The prices go down from $270 a night to $80 a night (cheapest we have seen).

Check in late. They will upgrade you from a basic room (they will all be booked) into a better room. We got the presidential sweet one time which is usually like $1000 a night.

We just stayed at the pacific terrace for the weekend. It was our anniversary and we booked an
oceanfront room with a king bed. It had a great view and was nicely decorated. The rooms are good size with a mini kitchen. The
boardwalk was fun to people watch from our balcony. The pool area and jacuzzi were in good shape, as was everything at the hotel. the staff were helpful and friendly. The beds are so comfortable. There was lots of street parking, so we saved 20.00 a day on parking. It was a spulrge but worth every penny!

We had a fabulous stay. Not only was our room exceptional, but the staff was extremely accommodating and friendly throughout our stay. They seemed to go above and beyond even overlooking some antics that we stirred up. I highly recommend a stay here and I'd say it's worth the extra money for a corner room with an amazing view of the ocean and boardwalk.

If your going to stay here, spend the extra money and get the "Full Ocean View". This is a great Hotel wit very friendly staff ( I would be very friendly if I went to work on the beach everyday too) The only things I thought they could improve on was the paid parking and no free breakfast but other than that I loved the Pacific Terrace Hotel.

Having traveled extensively for my work, I stay in hotels every month.  Some like Ritz and Four Seasons are expected to have 5 star services etc.  But I was pleasantly surprised when staying at the Pacific Terrace...the staff, the amenities and room were above what I had expected for the price.

I actually found it on Yelp and stayed for 2 nights this week.  I had also booked 2 other rooms for guests I had coming in and my guests reported the same level of satisfaction as mine.

Really nice hotel, excellent staff and even better location (we walked to dinner every night).

Definitely Recommend!

This is by far my one of my favorite hotels in all of San Diego.  If you want to be right on the ocean in Pacific Beach, with a pool, hot-tub, great sunsets, outstanding staff, many bars and  restaurants within walking distance, a boardwalk you can walk or bike up and down all day, this is the place for you.

This is a very nice and clean hotel. The jacuzzi and pool are heated appropriately, making Winter swimming possible. The views are incredible, and the staff is very friendly. Their room service is actually food from two neighboring restaurants so it's a bit unique in that way. Compared to the Del Coronado, it is much quieter, and relaxing. I can't imagine staying on the island.

I have stayed in hotels in Pacific Beach before, but was very impressed with the Pacific Terrace Hotel on this visit. The entire staff was friendly and helpful, addressing me by name on several occasions. The rooms have a Tommy Bahama feel to them, and were clean and well stocked with extra towels on the vanity. The location is excellent and for the price is the best place to stay on Pacific Beach, there is no restaurant, per se, however, the restaurant has 'charge to room' privileges at some of the nearby restaurants.   I will definitely return since it is walking distance to some great bars and restaurants in the area, making it an excellent hotel for a relaxing getaway to the beach.

If I was staying in Pacific Beach and did not feel like staying at the Banana Bungalow hostel I would usually stay at the Pacific Terrace Hotel.  It is a nice hotel, the rooms are nice and clean, and the water views are great.  One of the times I stayed here with a few friends and we had a room with a balcony view of the water, sitting on the balcony in the morning and drinking coffee was great!  It is not that far from Garnet Avenue, walking distance.  If you are walking back to this hotel from the bars and clubs on Garnet you can also stop at the late night taco shop on the way back!  If you do not like walking in the dark a cab ride will be cheap!

I always get home sick when I'm in a hotel, but not with this one!! I did not want to leave!!! It was so clean and comfortable. The staff were amazing!! We had a full ocean view and were able to listen to the ocean all night. My only issue were the drunks leaving the bars nearby. They would walk on the board walk screaming/ talking loud until 3am. It had nothing to.do with the actual hotel. When we woke up the next morning there were pods of dolphins playing in the ocean. It was such an awesome experience. Its now the only place I will ever stay at in San Diego.

Love this hotel. Stayed here for a week in August. The view is just incredible, the weather in San Diego obviously is tremendous...the service is great. One thing about this area I don't really prefer is the valet-only parking but every hotel is like that. I tend to go out 7 or 8 times a day and it gets old asking for my keys and having to give the guy a $10 tip every time.

I also left my $300 pillow there by mistake, and instead of stealing it, one of the maids had the front desk call my cell phone and they said they would ship it to me next-day for free. I told them to give the maid a $50 tip and put it on my card, and they did.

All of the staff (and I mean ALL) were extremely pleasant and helpful.
The location of the hotel was great too since there were lots of places to eat/drink/people watch, and being right next to the beach is key.

Beautiful hotel with great views and nice rooms BUT a mouse was in our room the first night. After that, there really isn't much  that can turn it around except for some type of comp from the hotel. We have only positive things to say about this hotel.  We booked the cheapest non-ocean view room when we called to reserve, and when we checked in, they upgraded us to an ocean-view room free-of-charge (worth about $150 more what our original room cost).

The staff was extremely friendly, helpful and cheery.  The room was beautiful and we felt like we were in a special resort on a tropical island.  We especially loved the balcony overlooking the ocean, the large flat-screen tv, the iPod docking station, the refrigerator, the robes, the  nice-smelling bath products, and the chocolates they left on the bed every day!  Oh, and the free glass of wine you get when you arrive, delivered right to your room.

This hotel is the best, and it's in a perfect location.  We have already recommended it to others, and will certainly stay there again next time.

My boyfriend booked the presidential suite at this beautiful boutique hotel right in the middle of Pacific Beach for our anniversary.  The view from our room was absolutely amazing, and the staff at this hotel was probably the most accommodating of any hotel staff I have ever encountered.  They were SOOOOO nice.

We had hoped for an early check in, but they were still cleaning our room when we got there, so we hung out by the pool and sipped lemonade and tea while we waited.  We didn't get to check in until a little after 4:00PM.

There's happy hour between 4-7PM (I think) & you get a complimentary glass of wine.  Our suite was huge, and we really enjoyed the view from the balcony in our room.  I loved the huge whirlpool tub.  The pool closes at 10, so you have basically all day to take advantage of it.  There's even turndown service in the evening and they bring you chocolate with it.  We skipped the turndown service, however, and just opted for the chocolates :)

Pacific Terrace Hotel is right on the beach and walking distance from lots of shops and restaurants.

Amazing hotel & wonderful service.  I would definitely stay here again.

Great hotel!  Location is right on the beach with a great view of the Crystal Pier and Point Loma in the background.  Beautiful property with awesome amentities, I would have given 5 stars if only they had a better in-house restaurant/bar.

We got a free upgrade to a full ocean view room that overlooked the pool when we checked in.  The room was unfortunately a 2 bed room instead of a king size.  That's my only issue with the room though, it was otherwise perfect.

They do charge a hefty fee for parking in the underground garage.

They have a military rate for rooms, check early for reservations.

Really nice place for families, the pool is small but well suited for small kids and the beach is right nearby.

Booked with a Southwest deal and got a free upgrade to an oceanview room. They also had a complimentary bottle of champagne for us when we got there as they knew it was our honeymoon.

The only complaints we had were that the breakfast is pricy--$14 for what you'd normally get for free at a hotel that serves a hot continental breakfast. The valet parking is $22 a night, but you can easily find a spot within a few blocks of the hotel and park overnight for free if you don't mind leaving your car on the street--worth it for us!

Great restaurants nearby, right on the beach, and lots of things walking-distance from the hotel. The pool was nice--they keep it heated during the winter so you can still swim. Housekeeping kept our room looking great and didn't bother our things--plus, chocolate!

The Hendersonville Video team doubled up our per diems to be able to afford this hotel and did so due to the high recommendation of a local. You get what you pay for. The salt air and scent of the ocean made the extra bucks justifiable. Our rooms were somewhat smallish compared to the hotel chain we normally use, but nicely decorated. Staff was top notch. The front desk called us when our car service arrived. A nice touch. The only nit was early morning skateboarders on the walkway along the beach.

Loved it! It is a very nice hotel with a small, intimate feeling.  I will def stay here again.  We stayed in a junior suite (I found the great rate on their website under specials).  We had a patio over the ocean and slept with the door open to hear the waves all night.

The rooms are decorated really nice, they have turndown service, and dont mind if you stay on the property all day the day you check out to use the pool, parking, and bathrooms.

You can walk to everything including food and shopping.  I will book my next trip to SD here.

This newly renovated hotel works for me. The trip was a birthday gift.
The pluses outweighed the cons but I'll disclose a few blemishes:

- You drive through a questionable street block before arriving at the hotel.
- The breakfast - overpriced, but if hungry, food's food - can't be picky.  I suggest saving leftovers from a great restaurant or buy something from a market to store in your mini refrigerator.
- The white sheets although washed, did have a few permanent stains (I would have rated this a 5 if I didn't see stains)

Now the Pluses:
+ My room was spacious, really nice and super clean, especially the bathroom and shower.
+ I found street parking and saved $$ on valet
+ It's a great place to getaway for 'me time" or as a romantic getaway.
+ Very warm, attentive and friendly staff.
+ Fresh bowl of apples and cookies throughout the day.
+ I would return.
I didn't have the ocean view and kept my shutters closed to avoid looking into a parking lot.  So yes, if view matters, choose a room with the ocean view.  I read so I didn't mind blocking the world out.

First of all: great location and parking was an underground spot, so theres no hassling looking for a place to park. Waking up and peeking out the window to check the surf while enjoying coffee in the room or complimentary Starbucks coffee from the lobby was a great way to start the day. Super comfy beds and nice hot showers. My only complaint would be that the water pressure in the shower was so strong, it almost hurt. Staff was friendly too! I'd definitely stay here again sometime.

Awesome hotel.  My sister and I spent a girls weekend there last weekend and highly recommend it.  There is really no need for a car because everything is within walking distance.  We did not eat at the hotel so i can not comment on that but the staff and room were both excellent.

What a fantastic hotel and staff! We were in San Diego in October for a bachelorette celebration....I'm talking 18 girls ready to drink, party, be loud, and let loose!

Beautiful, clean hotel and surroundings. Our room was a suite and slept 6-7 people very comfortably...the bathroom and the balcony was HUGE. The pool and hot tub face the beach and have comfy chairs to lounge on. The Pacific Beach is a hop skip away.  We couldn't have been happier.

The staff was always bend-over-backwards accommodating and polite and offered great advice on area shopping, food, bars, etc. They were even kind enough to split the hotel bills among 18 girls at the very end....God bless 'em!

I'll definitely be back to Pacific Terrace/the Pacific Beach area when I return to San Diego.

Made reservations for Jan 2014 and was not able to go on that date so I canceled reservations. Made cancellations on Oct 25th, and by the 30th, I had been charged $324.00 and will now have a bounced check because of it. I called and talked to a "shawn" and he, of course, couldn't find the charge. I then suggested to him that I give him my reservation #. So it gets real quiet on the other end, and he says well, is your reservation # 12345 and it wasn't that of course. I had been sent about 3 different reservation/confirmation #s and none of those were it. So I again gave him the one I had and he found the charge. And he said, oh you were refunded the money on the 30!!! He starts to argue with me that his "system" states I was refunded the money, when In fact it was the 30th that the money was taken out. Then I asked, and why do I have so many different reserv. #s? His response: oh well you made this online at the pacific terrace website and that's not our website!!!! What! Who's is it I asked. Well... Uh... It's ours but not ours. So now I must wait till tomorrow for the "manager". I never received any receipt stating I had been charged that amount. I cancelled the reservation over the phone and the person at the front desk of the hotel never mentioned any charge or refund.  I believe that with all the different reservation and confirmations numbers, that I was charged for someone elses stay because the amount I was charged is not all all close to the room charge. I hope whom ever stay it was had a good time. Its scary that this hotel seems to think its ok to charge credit cards without notice or any reason at all. What's even worse is I was basically called a liar when I said I had a charge and he said that there was none.  And then I had to tell him how to do his job. Be very careful with this place and watch your statements carefully if you stay here or hold a room.  If you do stay here, I hope your credit card company has a good claims department.  Best yet, avoid this hotel altogether and save the headache.

Spoke with day manager and there is a 1 day charge upon booking.  Of the three confirmations I got, (all with different confirmation #s), the only mention of charges is buried deep in one of the confirmations...with size 9 font.

"A deposit of 1 night's room and tax will be charged at time of booking."

Its dangerous though as the "deposit" amount is never told to you. They can easily over charge you as you are never agreeing to a set fee.

There is also no receipt sent of this charge or how much it is.  I never was told the amount when I booked online.... which is dangerous as they can charge whatever they want on your card.

The policy is dumb, what hotel charges you when you havent even stepped one foot in the door.  I can see if they charged me if I never cancelled and didnt show, but they are putting the actual deposit through even before the you arrive. They have my credit card on file and can easily charge if I dont show...., why feel the need to put the charge through when I've followed the rules and cancelled well in advance.

At this time, I still am missing the $300+.

Random decision to stay another night in San Diego and deciding to stay here while on our little holiday. It totally reminds me of some tropical location like the Bahamas yet a little reminiscent of some Tommy Bahama. This plea is rad, bummed that they do not have a restaurant or a bar but they do have an excellent little mini bar.

They do offer a wonderful breakfast with a DIY waffle station and YES, I succeed and making some bomb waffles for us (after the failure of the first one) The view of the ocean is amazing and perfect for those who enjoy the sound of the waves. We fell asleep with our sliding glass door open so that we can fall asleep to the soothing sound of the waves. Anyhoo. it's a romantic little spot and the pool is awesome and the hot tub is great... I love a hotel nestled on the beach.. We literally packed our bag walked down the stairs and lounged for hours on the beach..

For dinner I highly recommend going to JRDN..amazing well crafted cocktails and mussels.

If I wasn't looking at price I would say this place is absolutely amazing. So let me tell you all about the greatness that is Pacific Terrace Hotel:
1. The rooms are spacious and very nicely decorated.
2. The ocean views from the balcony are great, you can leave your sliding glass door open all night for a cool ocean breeze and the sound of the crashing waves.
3. The hotel staff is very nice and accomodating
4. It's walking distance to many restaurants and bars
5. Short walk down to the beach
6. pretty nice pool/spa.

The downside is that it's expensive, which in itself doesn't have to be a downside, but there are a few mitigating factors:

1. The breakfast is mediocre, and is $14. Most hotels would include it in the room rate, but not this place. We tried the breakfast once, then went down the street and got a breakfast at Kono's for like $6 that was seriously more than twice as good. This type of complaint would never even come up if they gave the breakfast for "free" like every other hotel does.
2. We got the internet special rate, (two nights get the third free) and in that case they don't give you WiFi access for "free". Seriously?
3. I've been to much nicer hotels (like beachfront resorts in Maui) that were either same price or less (don't recall which but I think it was probably less).

So there you have it. A very nice hotel, that is, however, somewhat overpriced.

Service is superb.  Location is amazing.  Yes, it is pricey, but considering everything that's included, it really helps justify the price--almost like an all-inclusive resort.  Free bike rentals, free body board & sand toys for the kids, etc.

I'm still stunned at the hotel's proximity to the beach.  I rode a bike up and down the "boardwalk" and did not see any others built right up to the walk, nor did I see any others that were as nice and maintained as well.  The pool / boardwalk configuration seems like it would be awkward, but didn't feel that way when being in the pool or hanging out around it.  If anything, it might make the pedestrians feel more like they are being watched than the reverse.

The room size was generous and comfortable--the ceilings were just a bit lower than newer construction, but still charming, in a cozy kind of way.

WIFI worked great throughout, from the rooms to the pool, unlike some of the other reviews stated.

I have never been to a hotel where the front desk was actually over-staffed and (everyone) looks up from what they're doing to greet you as you enter the lobby.  And it doesn't stop there.  Any type of staff in the hallways, restaurant, around pool area, garage, elevators - even the custodial staff along the hallways always made eye contact, spoke warm pleasantries and made us feel genuinely "at home".  Being from the Deep South, I was not expecting this level of hospitality in CA, but soon felt like these were "my kind of people"!  It was really odd having everyone there bend over backward to fulfill even what seemed to be the most strange/demanding requests and no one would ever say, "no" or that something couldn't be done.

The Pacific Terrace is a wonderful hotel. I would definitely stay there again! The staff is so helpful and accommodating. They go out of their way to make sure you have an enjoyable stay. The hotel and facilities are well maintained, the rooms are spacious and very clean. Each evening, housekeeping would come to your room for turndown service and gave chocolate! Freshly baked cookies and apples were always available at the desk for the guests free of charge. They have beach chairs when you use the beach, complimentary glass of wine, bicycle rentals. I can't say enough about this hotel! The Caribbean room has a good breakfast for a reasonable price. The location is great; it's right on the beach but also walking distance to restaurants. I highly recommend this hotel.

Fantastic! This place was really everything the reviews said it is. I know why it's ranked in the top 3 hotels in San Diego.

The staff is super duper friendly and helpful. They have great food suggestions and are just overall nice folks.

The location could not be better. It's on a fantastic side street very close to everything but it's not in the middle, it's honestly the perfect combination of both! You can walk to all the restaurants, bars and beach but you don't hear it.

The pool outback is right along the boardwalk which you would think would be busy or a little weird but it's pretty nice - great people watching and it's not super duper crowded. The views from the pool are awesome as well - great sun sets.

When we arrived, we asked on the off chance they may have a larger room and we were upgraded with a minimal fee. AWESOME!

I can't wait to go back here - I don't think we will stay anywhere else.

Oh dear, somebody has lost their mind.  $300 for a non-view room?  Add $35 for a partial-view?  Somebody's been out in the sun too long.

It's a pleasant island-themed hotel, only a pool and a cliffside staircase away from the Pacific Ocean.  There is no room service other than local restaurants delivering to your door.  Parking is a ludicrous $22 per day.  Island-y steel drum music pipes all day long in the background like you're at a Polynesian mall, which is so unnecessary and ultimately grating on the nerves when you count how many times you hear Buster Poindexter's "Hot, Hot, Hot" during your stay.

The hotel is situated like a horseshoe with full-view rooms facing in over the pool and the partial views facing outward, the full views opening to screaming children ignored by their parents and carefree revelers shouting from the jacuzzi and often other balconies, the partial views overlooking street traffic, parking lots, and on the south side, a public restroom.  The rooms are generally clean except for the occasional dead moth in the tracks of the balcony door or chewing gum left on the credenza.  The wastebaskets are laughably small.  There are too few electrical outlets not already loaded up with lamps, clocks, and electronics, and they are mostly placed inconveniently behind large furniture like the heavy wood bed or huge entertainment center.  Many rooms need repair or attention to fixtures, paint, molding, etc.  Every time I see their heavy bedspreads and throw pillows I think of Anthony Melchiorri of "Hotel Impossible" who shares my disdain for them as they get tossed into the corner on the floor.

Upon check-in they will place a hold on your credit card for the first night's rate plus another $50 or $100 for potential damage or miscellaneous charges, something which I've never encountered before at any other hotel.  I prefer checking out in-room via the tv so I can see the itemized charges and more than once I have been billed a night that should have been credited.  I have even been billed for mini-bar use despite my standard procedure of declining the mini-bar key at check-in.  In cases of disputed charges I always insist on a printed receipt.

Breakfast offerings here are nothing to brag about and are not even mentioned on their website.  For the money you would be better off taking a nice walk in the cool morning and bringing denny's back to your room.  Even if it was just as awful you pay half as much and you get some exercise.

The front desk is run primarily by kids who don't show much seasoning in the hospitality industry.  They are superficially cheery and may fail to regard or execute instructions and adversely affect your stay by, say, putting you in the wrong room type with no vacancies to switch to.  You will tire of listening to the clatter of laundry and housekeeping carts thundering along tile floors outside the rooms and the typical room doors being allowed to slam shut.  Does no one find that irritating?  Hotel staff should know better or care more.  The balconies are usually dotted with bird poop courtesy of the pigeons who beg for food.  The soundtrack of your stay will be the iron chairs being dragged on the balconies and in the patio area where they serve breakfast along with the pool gates clanging shut, all of which generally starts around 6:30 or 7 in the morning; later in the day more iron dragging on tile when the employees are straightening the patio area up.  On the second floor you will hear the neighbors above and next to you; on the ground floor you will hear them on top, adjacent, and in front of you as children or drunks wander into your patio area.  A tiny gym sits by the underground parking gate just on the other side of the available coin washer and dryer laundry room near the south elevators.

Best to check all your amenities and appliances when you first arrive, hot water and jacuzzi tub, refrigerator, etc.  Many a microwave oven and refrigerator have I had to swap out, and more than once in a stay, and even one day.

There is a small gift shop near the elevators off the lobby.  i have never seen anyone in there and it is just as often closed.

Nobody in your party will be fighting for the sofabeds, unless it's whoever is stuck sleeping on the dingy floor.  FYI, carpets do get replaced here; I know because I listened to the pounding as the room next door got recarpeted one morning.

Why am I waking up to a maintenance man hammering on my door frame?  I'm on vacation.  Perhaps he might accomplish those repairs between guests, but not on my dime please and definitely not at 8:30 in the morning.  Certainly not at $450/night, today's rate for that room.

For that money, you could place yourself in a four-star Times Square-area hotel in New York City.

We stayed at the Pacific Terrace Hotel for the fourth time during this past Labor Day weekend. The room was great, as always, and the staff was very friendly.  BUT, I am writing an updated review to warn future patrons of this hotel about the state of the Caribbean Room where the hotel breakfast is served.  We have eaten there on previous stays and always enjoyed it.  However, on this visit, the restaurant was swarming with flies, both indoors and outdoors on the patio.  What made it even worse is that there were dead files smashed all over their walls.  We were absolutely disgusted and obviously did not return their for breakfast during the rest of our stay.  Hopefully they clean up the restaurant and get their fly problem under control.  The rest of the hotel is so lovely that it was a shame to see that they have let their hotel breakfast go so far down hill since our last visit.  When I mentioned the problem to the front desk, their response was "Well, I am sure that they know about the fly problem and are trying to get it under control."  They didn't seem too concerned about it, although we heard the other diners in the restaurant complaining about the same issue.

I was recently 'star struck' with the great reviews and awesome pictures of this place so I decided to book it for a last minute weekend trip.
The pricing system at this place is annoying. First off the place is VERY overpriced with rates between $350-$600 a night for basically a 'standard' hotel room with a nice view of the pacific.
If you get the Internet special then nothing is included in the price of the room. I mean nothing! Not even WIFI. That will be an additional $10. Parking another $22. Bottle of water in your room $5.00.

I would rate this place 4 stars if it was a $150 a night hotel. But for a $350+ a night hotel this place is only worth 2 stars!

We had a "full ocean view room with 2 queens". The room was decorated nice and a good size with a good size balcony. Again... great if it was $150, but not that great at $350+.
The bed was old school with one of those gross bedspreads that doesn't get washed after each guest and those dirty throw pillows that you immediately throw on the ground because they are used over and over as well. Most nice hotels do NOT use these anymore!!

The balcony was large with a nice view of the ocean. Unfortunately the pool is directly below and it was 'family time' every day from 9am to 9pm. At least 6 kids in the pool at all times, screaming and being kids, having fun. Definitely a family place and not a place to relax or chill out.

The balcony was covered with bird poop. I expect MORE for $350+ a night!
The pool gate was LOUD and slams shut every time someone goes in and out of the pool. If your balcony is near the pool you will hear it all day and night. Why doesn't the hotel FIX this!!??

The hotel has a great location right on the ocean and beach path.
Walking distance to pretty much everything.

The room was average clean. EXCEPT behind the headboard which was completely gross. They need to either clean that crap or push the bed back against the wall so it cant be seen!!! NASTY! yelp.com/biz_photos/0Fwm…

I could go on an on.. but basically this place is not worth the money they charge!
Not even close!

My friends call me the "Road Warrior" because I'm often on the road taking care of business, but this trip was meant to be a few days of pure pleasure. San Diego is a fine town. I love the young, hip vibe I always feel here. If I wasn't such a big guy, I'd try surfing, haha, but I'd probably just "wipe out" as the kids say :)

I checked in on a monday afternoon at around 4:00. Everything went pretty smooth. Someone was right at the door to help me with my two VERY heavy bags. The desk staff were a little on the young side, but very professional. I had a nice conversation about the local eateries. One of the women gave me a lot of suggestions to list in my notebook. I went up to my room to unpack my bags. A wonderful island theme room! The soft beds were terrific! I had a second floor balcony with a marvelous view of the pacific ocean. Beautiful.

I was off to try one of my first food tips, Gringo's Cantina. I started with what was close to the largest nacho platter I have ever eaten. It was loaded with beans, pork, chili, corn, guacamole, and three kinds of cheeses. For my entree, I ordered a seafood burrito. It was HUGE and so good, I ate every single bite (practically licked the plate). Washing the whole thing down with four glasses of draft bear. Yum. I would tell you to come try this place for yourselves, but I recently found out that it has closed down. (I am writing this a year after my stay) I only mention this experience because I owe it all to the wonderful staff at Pacific Terrace.

Returning to my room at around 6:00 to call it a night, I had a very hard time parking in the underground parking garage. There was only one small space left and although I could get my door open, I had a hard time squeezing my way out. I stopped by the front desk and told them they needed larger parking spaces. They seemed receptive of my suggestion, but as I walked away, I thought I heard them snickering. That would not be professional at all.

Later that night, I had a pizza delivered to my room. I ate it on the balcony while enjoying a gorgeous pacific sunset. The view was breathtaking. This would have been the end of a perfect day, if it wasn't for the many homeless people and drifters milling around just underneath my balcony. I see this a lot in urban areas, but this made it a little hard to completely relax. The air conditioning that night was not quite adequate. It was just a hot, sweaty night for me. For some reason I was burning up even with the air conditioning set to high. I needed to take a shower just to cool down, but I couldn't even get the water cold enough. I felt a bit of nausea coming on and had to go to the bathroom. I felt better after that. (They do need a more powerful AC system)

The next morning, I felt much better and refreshed. It was all due to that absolutely wonderful queen bed!!! I started my day by the pool. They have free, quality coffee and continental breakfast. I enjoyed a few cups of coffee, a croissant, and a muffin or two while reading the paper.  I headed off to Denny's (one of my faves and just a short drive from PT) for a delicious Grand Slam. When I got back, I decided it was time to take a quick dip in the ocean before lunch. I needed to get geared up first. Now, I burn very easily (NO PIGMENTS) and I've never had a tan in my life. I'm not exactly Matthew McConaughey, haha. I found a nice couple on the beach that helped me spread my sunblock on some hard to reach areas (back and neck, etc). The people around here are very nice. (They were also staying at PT)

Now, I would have given this hotel five stars if it weren't for a few things...

It is mostly a hotel for young couples. It can get a little uncomfortable for a guy like me who is staying by themselves. For example, I was enjoying some nice hot-tub late at night. There was a couple across from me, giving me the "evil-eye". They clearly wanted to be alone. Wink, wink. Not very fair...

On the beach, I had never seen so many "six packs" in my life, outside of a liquor store. I think we are getting too body obsessed as a culture. This area and hotel are definitely an example of that. Sitting on my balcony, overlooking the beach-goers, It made me feel out of place. I feel much more at home on the beach in my home turf of New England.

Stayed here for 2 nights last time I went to San Diego. The rooms are very spacious and clean!  The customer reps are awesome! They were so helpful and very accommodating :)

Our room faced the beach and had a little patio to sit and look out :)

They have a very clean and beautiful pool area where you can just sit relax and enjoy SD!   Im definately coming back next time I'm in SD!

This place was a truly amazing.  I loved being write on the beach, walking distances to pretty good food and night life.  My favorite part though was the pool.  Unfortunately it was colder than expected while we were there.  The pool was super warm though.  We hung out and took advantage of poolside drinks most of our visit. Thanks Pacific Terrace for a truly restful vacation.

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel several times and enjoyed it, but something has changed.  The weak economy must have hit them hard because their culture has changed.  Instead of the charming boutique style hotel on the beach, with a first, class customer-oriented culture, it now has an indifferent, corporate greed mentality that will be its downfall.
We recently went on line to book their winter deal:  Stay 2 nights and get the 3rd night free.  Their website offer very clearly offered the rate for a partial ocean view room as follows:  "stay 2 nights and get the 3rd night free for a rate of $172.67 per night".
The regular rate was crossed out and replaced with the deal rate of $172.67 per night, plus taxes + fees.

When we tried to reserve a room on line, the total cost was coming out to be $200+ more than what the total stay should have cost, as advertised.  So, we called the hotel.  The Guest Services lady explained that the rate was not really $172.67 per night, as advertised, RATHER the rate was an AVERAGE room rate of $172.67.  (As of today, the words "average room rate" are not used on their website.)  When you click on the small "breakdown" link, the website brings up a separate fine print page that shows the rate is significantly more per night than $172.67, and if you do the math, and add in the $14 resort fee, on top of the other taxes and fees, you can get to the total they charge... but this cumbersome exercise in elementary math is a game they are playing to pretend to offer a winter deal that is no deal at all.

The manager of the hotel agreed with Guest Services and refused to honor the advertised $172.67 per night rate (plus taxes + fees).  The effect of their confusing and misleading splash page information is to draw people in with a false rate and then say oh, never mind, what we REALLY meant was an AVERAGE room rate.  haha  got 'cha!

A reputable hotel chain would change the wording to accurately reflect the "deal" they are offering.... but, Pacific Terrace Hotel is standing by their confusing, misleading rate wording.  They have lost us as a customer because there are too many other beautiful places to stay in San Diego that are honest with their patrons and don't engage in such deceptive and misleading business practices.

Visited June 20th and leaving June 23rd

This was our first stay at Pacific Terrace Hotel and most definitely will not be our last!

My wife completed hours of research of hotels with suites in the San Diego area for our recent vacation with specific time set aside for Sea World and relaxing on the beach and Pacific Terrace seemed to fill the bill perfectly.

All the staff (front desk, management, maintenance, house keeping, etc.) ALWAYS offered warm greetings, excellent advice when questioned, offering extra services at no charge, etc.

The location of the hotel makes perfect for our adventures and relaxation; excellent food on-site and close by, stores, etc. are all within easy walking distance.

I really liked having the secure parking for our rental car on-site (below the hotel) - we could have even used the valet!

The rooms were very clean and quiet - no matter the time of day or night. We go to our room daily during lunch to afford our 5 y/o a rest break or nap and this has never been interrupted by noise from hall or rooms beside, below or above.

Our room (206) had a balcony facing the Pacific Ocean and beach - what an excellent place to sit and relax after putting the little one to bed. Access to the beach was just down the stairs (or elevator) and out the door - I spent my early mornings walking the quiet beach peacefully.

Some mornings I also borrowed one of the hotel bikes and rode the "boardwalk" from end-to-end; also very relaxing.

The pool is a great addition for a quick break from the heat; rarely was it overly busy, kids have plenty of area to play without bothering other guests. For the beach they have boogie boards and various sand toys for the kids (yes I used them too).

To the staff and management team of Pacific Terrace Hotel, thank you for a fantastic and memorable stay!

Visited on Labor Day weekend. Price was okay around 320$ for a partial ocean view. Partial meaning it faces the street leading to the beach and the ocean is to your right or left. We were are disneyland watching the fantasmic so I called around evening to tell them we might be arriving late. We reached there around 1 pm. The guy parked our car and gave us room keys. The room had two twin beds and was pretty bland looking. The tv did not have any good channels on and the wifi was ok. Wake up the in the morning and suprise suprise our room was right at the edge of the street so you could see the ocean at the balcony clearly through the shutters. It was amazing to sip coffee and watch people go about the beach beneath you. The hotel gets 5 stars just for the location and the amenities were decent. While checking out the lady was nice and quick and we picked up some of the sight seeing brochures from the lobby. Overall I would highly recommend this place if you are visiting san diego.

Edit: Also it is very close to San Diego Sea World about 10-15 mins drive and even though I did not visit I saw the zoo and safari were around 20-30 mins. This hotel is right in the middle.

Edit2: Sorry it was not twin beds. possibly queen as they were no way small. i can never tell. the room decor was kinda boring though. wish it was more cheerful.

location location location!!!! ON the beach. Walking distance to awesome restaurants, the sand. Right on the walk/bike path- great for people watching.  Super friendly staff. Clean, spacious rooms. Heated pool and Jacuzzi in winter. Free iced tea, cucumber water and lemonade all day. Free fresh baked cookies at 4pm. Free coffee in the morning. Great patios and balconies for watching the sunset.  Firepits by the pool in the evening. Can't get much better. Relaxed, quiet friendly and everything a seaside holiday should be.

This was my very first (but certainly not my last) trip to the San Diego area and a friend of mine who lived in PB suggested that I stay in PB, as opposed to downtown SD.  So I did my research and decided on Pacific Terrace.....another great choice Dave!

The hotel itself has a great location overlooking the beach, doesn't get any better than that!  I had a Jr. Suite which was spacious, clean, nicely furnished and a balcony looking over the Pacific.  There's a pathway that runs along the rear of the hotel and the beach.  You can sit out on the balcony and watch people walking, jogging, bike riding and skate boarding; not to mention watching all of the surfers and people tanning on the beach.

The service is great at this hotel.  All of the staff were super friendly and helpful.  They have underground parking for your car which I highly recommend at $22/day because parking on the street is very limited.  They provide you with beach towels, chairs and bicycles free of charge......which I suppose should be expected at $399/night, but a nice touch anyway, as were the freshly baked cookies every afternoon.

This hotel is also located within walking distance to just about everything that you would want to do in PB.  If you don't mind paying, Pacific Terrace is well worth it.

Stayed here for a week for training and felt absolutely spoiled.  Great room, ocean view.  We worked ourselves silly in the training we had to do and the staff was more than helpful in recommending great places to dine that weren't far away.

We generally worked hard into the late evening and management,  after the second day, just kept the coffee and bottled water going to our room until we told them we were done for the day.  Really nice people working there.

We didn't get much time at all to explore the local area or lounge around our  rooms due to our workload but I must say, the rooms were conducive to getting a great night's sleep.

It was in all respects a great place to stay.

This is an absolutely WONDERFUL hotel.  I stayed there Monday and Tuesday night of this week.  Splurged for my birthday and got the Kingston Suite.  Not only was it the best room in the hotel, but it is the best hotel room I've ever stayed at in my life.  And I've been to many hotels across the world.  I should've taken pictures, I captured a video of the room wish I could post it.

First of all, the views are fantastic.  If you are lucky enough to get a room on the top floor, you will overlook the ocean and surrounding area.  The hotel is right on the beach, so you can see everything and hear the waves crashing at night.

The room was designed magnificently.  Very classic, not too chic.  Cool tapestries, sculptures, furniture.  A big leather chair that I lounged in.  Of course a nice television.  My room had two balconies, one in the living room and one in my bedroom.  A gigantic bathroom with a walk in shower and jacuzzi.  Granite floor.  The bed was extremely comfortable.

The hotel has a pool.  How many hotels have a pool at the beach?  Not too many.

Overall this is a top of the line hotel.  Of course you are going to spend more to stay here, that's just how it is.  I paid a hell of a lot but don't regret it at all.  Great location, you can walk to any of the surrounding bars and restaurants.  Great nightlife.  Staff was more than friendly.  It is the best hotel in San Diego that I've stayed at, and that includes the Hotel Del Coronado and La Valencia in La Jolla.

I used to give this hotel five stars but just having stayed here for two nights ...the Hightower wood bladed ceiling fan in the room is less than 3 feet above the master king size bed ...and when I stood up this morning in the bed to use the restroom ... The fan blade going at full speed hit the back of my head pushed me onto the floor on my face and I got knocked out ...I have a huge gash on the back of my head and the hotel does not care ...the hotel manager said and I quote " why did you get up from bed that way?" I said "to use the bathroom " and she said " You should've gotten off the bed first and walked there " I told her the ceiling fan I can touch the motor with my hand when I extend it and I am only 5 feet tall ...the room is not to code ...because I own multiple rentals and I hate to say but if my 3 sons had been in the room and wanted to jump from bed to bed they would've been decapitated or if a 6 foot tall person would have stood up to walk around our use the restroom they would've been decapitated by the fan... and the hotel is renting my room now to someone else tomorrow and not doing a thing about it... If you are about 5 feet tall or value your kids do not stay at this hotel until they bring it to code it's not worth your life because your life is priceless as well is mine....

PROS: Nice little hotel on the beach, close to everything
CONS: Decor is a little dated (sort of Tommy Bahama meets 1980s Banana Republic safari style), but rooms are comfortable. And I think we either had to pay for wifi, or there was some kind of issue with it. It wasn't a concern, but verify wifi access if that's a deal-breaker.

This is just a comfy hotel on the beach, perfect for a weekend or week-long getaway. The staff is very friendly and hospitable, and every single one of them (from the maids to the parking attendant to the front desk staff) greeted us each time our paths crossed. They gave us tips on where to eat, where to park for free, what activities to do, etc.

We booked a mid-week stay for a super low rate on booking.com , got a partial ocean view, and just enjoyed the beach for a couple of days. We arrived earlier than check-in, so they gave us key cards to access the pool area and a book of vouchers to take advantage of 2-for-1 cocktails and other offers. So we got a poolside cabana, admired the ocean view while we sipped our drinks, took a dip in the pool, and rested until our room was ready. Then we checked in, explored San Diego a bit, had a drink as we watched the sun set over the ocean from our balcony, then settled into a comfy bed for the night. The next day, we picked up a couple beach chairs, boogie board, and an umbrella -- all complimentary at the front desk -- and spent the day at the beach.

Really no complaints. If you want an ultra-sleek, modern hotel with a happening bar or nightclub, look elsewhere. If you want clean, cool, comfortable accommodations literally steps from the beach, stay here.

We splurged on the romance package and it was absolutely worth it. It was like walking into a fairytale, and getting to live it. It was a complete dream come true.

The room was very nice. I loved the high, huge and beyond comfy bed and the blue comforter. I felt like a princess and wanted to stay. Our balcony overlooked the beach and ocean and we saw an amazing sunset.

The decor was cozy and tropical, with a lovely Hawaiian plant inside.

The location was perfect. We walked along the pier, went to a restaurant just a couple blocks away, could walk pretty much anywhere we needed to go. And parking was easy. It was only a 20 minute drive or so to the zoo.

The reception staff were all so nice. I think we missed free cookies or something, but there was just so much to enjoy here in such a short amount of time.

We only stayed one night, but it was amazing and full of such warmth, and we wish we had stayed longer. We'd definitely stay here again if back in the area, and would recommend it whole heartedly.

Everyone at the hotel is very friendly and accommodating. The front desk agent was great and exceeded my expectations. The views from the balconys are breathtaking. The beds are so comfortable!

Walk to the Beach! This hotel is a must see and visit :) I was here on business and the service was outstanding and provided me with every thing I needed and more. I also was very pleased with the customer service and how nice they were. I like when you come in they greet you with a smile and make you feel welcome. Right outside my balcony was the beach and the view was so breath taking and not to mention the weather that made the experience that much more. The room had two sliding  doors, one on the outside to walk onto the balcony and the other on the inside that were shutters so I left the one to the outside open so I can hear the crashing of the waves and other on the inside closed to keep my room nice and dark.

Although I give this hotel an over all 4 star. I would say that on the other side of the hotel there  were apartments so close that when walking down on the inside of the hotel looking out, you can see into someone's apartment, but its just a small part that its still worth visiting and experiencing. I really enjoyed that down the street on Mission St are a strip that goes on for miles full of many different types of restaurants, bars and a little night life if you'd like or take a stroll on the beach.

I can't wait to visit again and the price is fairly reasonable considering the location is literally inches to the beach.

This is our first time visiting San Diego, we were debating on staying at a place like this or staying somewhere away from the ocean to save a little money.  We decided to spend a little extra & stay here & it was worth it!  The staff are so friendly & helpful.  Our room was very clean.  The beds were great.  Located near so many great eating places.  If you want to eat off grounds try Komos, especially for breakfast.  One warning watch out for parking fees, you have the option of parking outside for free.  We would definitely stay again!!

My husband and I spent our honeymoon here.  We were both so impressed with the excellent customer service of all the staff.  We recommend staying in the presidantial suite. The room was beautiful,  the view of the ocean was beautiful and the location was perfect. Free bike cruisers, beach chairs, umbrellas and sand toys all included with the resort fee. Plenty to do nearby and plenty of resturants with in walking distance. We were sad to leave but are planning on coming back for our 1 year aniversay.

All rooms are large and face the ocean with private patio. Well, all but one. And gee that was my room.

The one exception to this rule sits on the north side of the building above the parking entrance. A hotel that sells itself as all oceanfront should really use the only non-ocean room as a broom closet. You just can't pretend your not doing something wrong by giving a customer this room. If someone does use this room even at a discount they should be made aware prior to booking. Using the other rooms as bait is false advertising. I digress.

I'm all about fixing the problem and they did do a couple of things. They comped the breakfast buffet and allowed me to book a subsequent visit at a reduced rate in one of the other rooms. Better, but that room still needs to go.

There is valet or garage parking at an additional cost. Street parking exists around the hotel but can be difficult to find at certain times.

The location is awesome. The pool side area is inviting and I liked the gas fire pits. Free Starbucks coffee available in the morning in the lobby. Free wifi.

The staff is very friendly.

On my subsequent stay I did get the oceanfront room that was promised and all was right with the world. The room was perfect, the bed was cozy, everything was clean and the private patio had a great view of the ocean. As advertised.

I 'd have given the 5th star had I not been given the broom room the first time.

By far was this one of the best vacations to San Diego.  Were adopting this place as our anniversary getaway every year!

The staff was super friendly and accomodated every need. The rooms were spotless, spacious and worth every dime. Beds were comfortable,  bathrooms were nice and open. The shutters opened to your own private patio that literally faced the pool, and then the ocean. We had an awesome room they consisted a partial view but i can totally see, smell and heat the ocean from my patio, just awesome to sit here and drink a glass of wine or coffee. You can rent bikes, boogie boards, etc from the front desk.... They really thought of almost everything. The lil fridge in the room came in handy because the grocery store was down the street so we bought sodas and fruit, etc. The location is great with tons of bars and restaurants in walking distance...Really no need to move the car at all.

If your skeptical,  don't be and book this place.  You won't be disappointed.

I'm in love with this hotel. I was a little afraid reading the other comments but don't listen to them.  The location is perfect. The only thing between the hotel and the ocean is the sand and Boardwalk. Nice pool and jacuzzi and fitness room. We got the 3rd floor ocean view with a balcony. The decor is very calming and pretty. Love the wooden shutters. I also love the fact there was several places to eat within walking distance. The only thing I didn't like is I had to pay $25/night for parking plus a $14/day resort fee. That can add up pretty quick. But aside from that I will definitely come Back again.

This a little gem right on the beach and is a perfect alternative to the other convention hotels in downtown and mission bay. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.  While there is no room service many local restrauants   deliver promptly.  The locals are all young and occasionally some loud jubilation at bars but all in all a fun place to go. Kid friendly.
Have to get up early to take advantage of breakfast which could offer more. Parents and students from USD get a discount. By far the best value in San Diego and not far from everything.  I try to keep this place a secret.

Meh.  Don't expect to be able to check in even 1
Minute before 4pm.  I had a full ocean view room.  It was ok. The best part was being able to walk everywhere I wanted to go in PB, and being right on the beach.  Overpriced and highly overrated.  Next time, I will stay at Tower 23, which is just perfect.

This hotel is a rare gem. The staff is very attentive, our room was immaculate, and the location is amazing.
We had a third floor balcony suite with a great view of the ocean. Wifi is free. We also took advantage if the free bikes and took a long ride along the ocean path. The hotel fee also includes free use of beach chairs and boogie boards.
Our car was brought to us in less than 5 minutes each time we called for it. The turn down service was nice as we came back to our room in the evening with a swan animal made out of a towel and some mints.
We were trying to decide between staying here or Hotel Coronado. Definitely pleased that we stayed here as it has a much more laid back atmosphere.

Visited San Diego for a quick getaway from Las Vegas, I know right? We arrived at night and the ocean sound was very welcoming! The room was nice and clean, front desk very attentive. We had an ocean view on the third floor which is the top floor. You can walk out and get straight on the beach. We will be back again. We had no complaints! Make sure to get your check-in complimentary glass of wine. They forgot to give us ours but once I called the front desk they were brought up to our room right away! Fire pits by the pool during the cold winter. Breakfast buffet downstairs, food was limited but still good. Make sure to look through the coupon book they hand you upon check-in. I recommend to pay for parking even though I thought it was a bit pricey around $50 I think.

I came to Pacific Terrace hotel a long time ago and we were looking for a place in SD to just veg out. So this vacation PT was our place.

The hotel is really great. All the people working there is very friendly and very helpful. The rooms are decorated very tropical with high beds, flat screen TV, and a Keurig coffee maker. The rooms are steps away from the Pacific beach. Very secured hotel with a nice pool overlooking the beach. So if you swimming or layout out you can hear the waves crashing and the salt in the air.

They provide all guest rooms with towels for the pool and beach. Also, free rental of bikes to ride on the walkways of pacific and mission beach with locks so you can you can lock the bikes up while on mission beach boardwalk. Very cool. They also provide boogie boards and umbrellas for the guest use.

Oh yea, each room has their own balcony. Even the rooms on the first floor. Very nice.

One thing I thought was interesting is that everyday that the maids clean up they leave on your bed some type of figure made out of towels. We had a duck, flower, and swan. Very cool. At night time they have a turn up service were they come into your room before you get back from dinner and put mints in your room. Hey also give you a flyer for the next day telling you what the weather is going to be like and they have pictures of the Guest Services staff working that next day. Also, each room has a picture of the person cleaning your room that day. Very nice touch so you know and can recognize the people you might need to contact.

We had an issue with our room with the refrigerator and air conditioning unit. They moved us into their Executive Suite with a jacuzzi. No problems getting a new room. Also, so we weren't inconvenienced, they transferred our baggage from one room to another.

Very nice hotel with so many amenities. For sure we'll be back. Also, make sure you pay the extra $25 for underground parking. It's worth it. Enjoy and maybe we'll see you there.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times now, the last time last December. It is in Pacific Beach right on the beach. The location is amazing as you can go from the hotel right into a paved walkway that runs along the beach. Its an easy walk to little shops, restaurants and the beach area.

The rooms here are great. Nice and roomy. I have stayed at one on their standard rooms but after one stay in their executive suite, i dont know if I can ever go back. They room has two queen beds, a dining table, mini fridge, couch that is also a pullout sleeper and the hugest bathroom i have ever seen.

The spa tub is supposed to hold two people but i can stretch all the way out and still not touch the other side. Theres also a tv in the bathroom. The only thing is that the  shower is a bit small compared to the rest of that bathroom. They have Tommy Bahama bath products. It used to be that the products used to smell great...tropical. This last time i was there, it was still Tommy Bahama products but the scents were awful and the consistency of the lotion was watery.

The room had a huge balcony with a small table and chairs if you want to sit outside to enjoy the ocean sounds and views. I love opening the sliding glass window at night and fall asleep to the sounds of the crashing waves.

The beds are hit and miss. We had to trade beds because the first bed we slept on hurt my bf's back. This happened in the other room we stayed at too.

Maid service comes in twice a day to make up your room and turn down the bed in the evening. There is a resort fee and a parking fee of $25 but i guess parking is a premium by the beach. The hotel has bikes and beach gear such as towels, chairs and toys as part of the resort fee. They offer cookies in the afternoon. Service is great there.

Overall a great hotel and great location. I know i will be back.

I have been to this hotel four times and every time has been a joy... Okay once it was during spring break but once I closed the balcony door all was right with the world.

The staff was always pleasant and helpful with information as to restaurants and directions. Check in was a breeze unlike the TSA experience at some hotels.

The room was huge for the price... Immaculately clean with plenty of room to relax and read on the large patio which overlooks a pool and the pacific beach. The bed was firm but not board-like.

The bathroom had a nice sized jacuzzi which had large mirrors if romance was on your agenda. Wifi was free and flawless. There was a small flat screen tv in the bathroom to accommodate a long hot soak. Tile and wall colors are warm and welcoming. Towels were soft... Cable was actually good with full range of channels.

Cookies get baked in the afternoon... So grab a few and relax by the pool, fire pit or small clean jacuzzi while you take in the sunset.

The underground parking is an ad on... Not pricey with locked access so as to keep your car safe from the ever present beach transients that seem to hang out away from this end of the beach.

Beach access is closer than close...oh they have bikes for riding and umbrellas at the front door should it be sprinkling outside.

You can tell that management takes pride in property maintenance as cleaning of small details is always going on but not intrusive.

While you can get breakfast in a small dining area by the pool we chose to eat our meals at one of the many great eateries along the beach walk.

Watch for deals as their prices vary substantially during the off season.

I can not say enough about this hotel, its staff and management. As a frequent business traveler.., this is a diamond along the pacific beach.
