This inn was booked for us by the California State Games folks and it was a good fit for our team and parents.  The location was close to the arena and close to restaurants.  The rooms were okay, but had way too much furniture in them.  I kept bumping into tables and chests.  The pool and barbecue area came in handy for a little party on our second night there.  The complimentary breakfast was convenient for powering up the boys before morning games.  The on-site laundry facility was useful too.  The best part was the comfortable lobby that the hockey dads turned into their personal poker room and where my husband managed to make enough to pay for our gas for the weekend.  Thanks guys.

We just stayed 5 nights here and we couldn't have been happier.  We had a 2 bedroom, bi-level penthouse suite with full kitchen and an extra sleeper sofa in the living room.  On weeknights, they have a free social hour with food and drinks.  We arrived on a Thursday, which was BBQ night so we enjoyed complimentary burgers and hot dogs by the pool.  It was great not to have to go anywhere after the long drive there and allowed our 16 month old some time to unwind and spalsh about.

Having a full breakfast every morning was awesome!  Eggs, sausage, waffles, cereal, breads, oatmeal, juices and more.  Each morning, they also offered an extra item like breakfast burritos or biscuits and gravy.  It was really nice not to have to waste time finding a restaurant before heading out for the day.

All of the staff was very helpful and friendly.  The location was central and pretty much 15 minutes or less to all of our destinations (except the Wild Animal Park - which is really far).  We would definitely recommend this location to others and would stay there again.

Its your typical Residence Inn with condo style rooms that included a kitchen.  The one thing I remember about this particular Residence Inn was you can easily pass and miss the entrance.  Make sure to turn into the the lot right after the gas station on the corner.  And try to upgrade to a room with a loft if they're not at max compacity.

Standout service and amenities here.  For a relatively low rate, I didn't expect a full kitchen, a couch, coffee table, and three closets!  Location was convenient to the highway and good eats on Convoy St.  They also offered free breakfast, free internet, and other things I wasn't able to check out, like the happy hour / social.  But the thing that made me log on to write this review was the card I got from the manager.  Everyone in my group got one .... there were quite a few of us who flew in for a training session.  The note was professional and personal, and it even came with two cookies.  Yum.

If you're not already in the loop, Residence Inn offers little apartments with all the basics, like dishes, tableware, pots and pans, utensils, a dishwasher, range/oven, microwave, full-size refrigerator, and maid service. Everything you need to pretend that this is your place. I've stayed at Residence Inns nationwide, and this property in Kearny Mesa falls in the middle of the pack.

This Residence Inn has a cozy village atmosphere. There are 18 buildings with 8 apartments each, some with fireplaces, and some duplexes/lofts. They have a heated pool, a hot tub, and a barbeque. Free parking is ample, and the grounds are well-maintained. The Gatehouse, where you check in, has free newspapers and free internet access, and it also hosts free food and drinks in the morning and evening. The television has the usual hotel selection of channels, plus HBO and pay-per-view movies.

The studio room I stayed in was nicely arranged, clean and comfortable. Besides the queen bed (see photo above), there was a pull-out sofa bed, three closets, two chests of drawers, two bedside tables, a work desk and task chair, and a full kitchen with marble-top table. Four packets of coffee, two regular and two decaf, four generic teabags, and a package of Residence Inn branded microwave popcorn are complementary. The ten-cup Braun coffeemaker comes supplied with basket filters if you want to make your own coffee. This coffee machine, however, requires #4 cone filters, which seemed a senseless oversight. Once you make the coffee, be sure to pour your cup over the sink because the poorly designed carafe leaks coffee when you pour it. Then there are the tiny coffee cups. Does anyone really use small coffee cups anymore? The kitchen table has space for four, but there are only two chairs. As a nice touch there is a telephone jack at the kitchen table.

Free dinner the night I arrived was meatloaf and baked potato with salad, rolls and Rice Krispies treats. The beer tap said Budweiser, but what came out was all sputtering foam. When the foam settled, the beer was brown and had a disagreeably musty smell. Nasty. Breakfast in the morning was scrambled eggs, link sausage, potatoes, pastries and juices. The meals vary by the day, and the schedule is on the refrigerator in the room.

The biggest drawback to this property is that there is no sound insulation between floors. The people upstairs woke me up promptly at 2:30 AM, right after the bars closed. Evidently they were hosting the after party. It sounded like a herd of elephants, all of whom needed to flush the toilet. When was the last time you stayed at a hotel and could hear the toilet flushed upstairs? Not to mention their conversation and the door slamming as the partiers came and went.

My solution to the party problem is, what the heck, invite yourself upstairs. They probably have better beer than the Gatehouse. It's a cozy village after all.

As a business traveler that does 100 days a year on the road, I have an appreciation for the little things.  Like good service and proximity to the city's attractions.  Bonus points for the ability to cook my own grub on a grill.

Residence Inn Kearney Mesa pulls it off.  Nicely furnished studios with a full blown kitchen, full breakfast in the morning and a managers social hour at night.  I really enjoy using the grill by the pool during social hour so I can enjoy the salad bar and warm beer on tap.  The ability to cook for myself on the gas grill and invite my fellow co-workers over from the Hampton next door is worth the price of admission.  I stay here when I can as my Plan B.

The staff is just ok.  Nothing remarkable.  When the Hampton next door sets the bar for customer service, all other properties pale in comparison.

All in all, a very comfortable property that feels like I am staying at home.

Wow!!!!!! We took a road trip to San Diego with our 10 family members and I had done a lot of research about local hotels in the area. I'm glad I came upon this hotel. Clean, friendly, rooms are great for the value we paid. The FREE breakfast is awesome, very well organized! The kids loved the pool not crowded at all even tho we went on a holiday weekend. Will highly recommend to other people. Parking was easy to find at NO charge and the spaces are a good size. We parked our SUV without any problem. I love that we felt at home during our stay and the kids loved it!

So one of my good friends sets up her wedding in two months, which I've been told is really quick because weddings take forever... or something. So since her parents live in San Diego, the wedding has to take place there. You know what that means? ROAD TRIP!

Eight hours from San Francisco later, we're there at like 2pm and we can't check in until 4pm. Is that typical of hotels? I don't know... whatever. We explore San Diego for food and an SD card to take pictures of the wedding and pre-wedding extravaganza. Once we do all the registration and whatnot, we get into our suite.

Despite my friend having such a limited time in setting up this wedding, she managed to get a great deal on the penthouse and studio suites at this particular place. We settle with the penthouse suite because there was three of us and we were convinced it was a better deal. After looking at the place we were staying in, I have to agree. There were two double sized beds and a fold-out couch, leaving us with a lot of room to sleep in.

Like the previous reviews said, our place came with a full-functioning kitchen, an ironing board, two floors of room, two bathrooms, and a TV. For the three days and two nights we spent there, it was a great place to come back to before and after the hijinks spent in San Diego. And with its easy access to the highway system, it was easy to get to, especially with a GPS, even though people in San Diego can't drive for shit (two seperate accidents about 50-100 yards apart from each other makes a 5-minute drive into fucking forever.)

My major complaint with this place is the towels. They were pretty rough... and it always felt darker than it should be inside the place. Okay, so there's two complaints... whatever. The staff, though, are pretty friendly and the breakfast is always nice to wake up to. I don't know if I'll ever end up in San Diego again, but I wouldn't mind going back if the price was right and it was convenient. I don't know how the studio suites are or how much the penthouse suites are without the deal, but this place is definitely an option.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights during Thanxgiving weekend. The front desk was very helpful in putting us close our family friends as a special request.
The rooms were very clean and having utensils and stuff helped us a lot.

Room service was great too. Whatever we requested, was provided promptly.

    Excellent place to stay.

We were able to cash in some rewards points and they gave us an upgrade to the penthouse suite. SCORE!

I really am a fan of this hotel. Megan at the front desk took good care of us.

We spent 3 hours in the nicely heated pool and then relaxed in the bubbly hot tub.

A good time was had by all...

Recently stayed here for 1 night and will Gladly book there again.
We came in 30 mins early and our Queen bed room was not ready yet so they upgraded Free to I guess they call it penthouse loft.
It was on the 2nd floor, but had a queen bed upstairs in the loft area with a full bathroom (tub/shower) and a king bed downstairs that locks with french doors with a full size bathroom as well.

The sofa bed also pulls out into a sleeper.  Room was $122 with all taxes/fees. Not bad for a hotel that sleeps 6 people!

It has a full size kitchen stocked with plates, silverware, pots, pans for light cooking as well as coffee maker, coffee, popcorn, microwave.

Rooms were clean.  Breakfast was ok, its Free.  But Denny's breakfast is more appetizing lol

The only thing that wasn't great was the parking.  We went for just 1 night to a Luau in San Diego when we got back to the hotel at about 10pm there was no nearby parking and we had to park on the other side.
Of course there's always 1 Moron at every hotel who thinks it's ok to park his porsche in 2 parking spaces!

    Would definately stay here again!

Marriott's calls this hotel on their website as "Residence inn San Diego Central". And for good reason, as it does have a pretty central location to the city and county of San Diego, with easy access to the 163, 805 and not far from the 5 and 8 freeways.

It is located right off Clairemont Mesa Blvd, a main drag in the Kearny Mesa area, right off Highway 163, which can take you downtown, connect with other freeways within 5 miles, or lead you northeast to the i-15 and the Temecula wine country and Riverside beyond.

It is only about 10 miles to downtown San Diego, or Ocean Beach, Sea World, the Zoo, and about 20 miles from the Wild Animal Park, and maybe 25 to 30 to Legoland.

This is perhaps the best value Residence Inn in San Diego county. RI's near downtown and the Gaslamp are in the $200 range; while full Marriott hotels are in the $300+ range (plus $25/nt parking). The RI in Carlsbad up north county is over $200, and  the one in La Jolla near UCSD is about $170. This one is really no different in amenities or room size to all of those, and it can be had for $150 for a studio suite.

Plus, you are near all the Asian restaurants in the Kearny Mesa area, where you can get good food at reasonable prices. Since Residence Inns over sofa sleepers in all suites (and some suites with double master bedrooms), and a full kitchen in an apartment like set-up with full utensils, dining table, desk, dishwasher, etc. it is a great value.

Add to that their free hot breakfast with eggs, waffles and potatoes plus all the trimmings, and the "manager's" evening happy hour meal with more free food and beer, and you have an excellent value for $150.

A family of four can stay with the 2 smaller children on the sofabed, and you can feed them all breakfast for free, with evening refreshments. Parking is also free, so you can really stretch the family vacation budget.

And another great bennie? Free wi-fi (wired LAN). You just have to log in every 24 hours!

In my case, I got the ultimate bennie, totally free rooms because I am a frequent quest member to Marriott brands.

Trying to stay within the Marriott family and not wanting to pay for parking, we found the Residence Inn.  I've never stayed at any of their other Residence Inns, so I was pleasantly surprised with what we got.

After an easy check-in, we got back into our car to drive to our unit.  It was easily a studio apartment with a king bed, pull out sofa bed, full kitchen (with a large fridge, stove, and microwave), desk, and a bathroom.  I didn't expect the whole kitchen part, so that was a nice plus.  They also had free internet access in the rooms.  (At the front desk, they make you sign a waiver saying you won't throw any 'parties' in the rooms.  Just an FYI in case that's what you're thinking!)

They have free hot breakfasts from 7 am to 10 am on the weekends.  I skipped Saturday morning, but the BF came back with bagels.  On Sunday, they had other hot breakfast items available including tacos, waffles, yogurt, English muffins, bagels, granola, fresh fruit, etc.  It's a pretty decent spread for breakfast.  They also have other events going on throughout the weekdays that are complimentary and include a light meal and beverages.

We didn't utilize the pool or the gym that's open 24 hours.  (Apparently you get complimentary use of One on One Fitness on Kearny Villa Road too.)

The microwave popcorn and hot chocolate found in your room is a nice perk too.  They even offer to do your grocery shopping for you for free!  (You just pay for the groceries.)

My only real complaint was that we called the front desk to inquire about daily cleaning.  Since it was after 12, we wanted to make sure they could still clean our room.  They said that housekeeping would be coming by shortly. When we returned after 3, our room still had not been made up. We called the front desk again and they sent someone over right away.  We had to sit around for half an hour while things were getting tidied and that affected our schedule a bit.

It's located right off the freeway and very close to a choice of restaurants.

    $127/night plus tax.

Great customer service on the business services side of the house.

I had an emergency date change for an important meeting and needed to find a new location asap. Leslie got me hooked up immediately and was able to identify everything I would need and find anything that wasn't immediately available. She sent me the contract for the location promptly and was available when I had questions. She was really friendly, too!

Alas, as often happens, the meeting was moved, so we did not get to use the conference room. However, I'm going to suggest this location to our event planner and will definitely book here if the opportunity arises again.

    Pros:
    - Close to the freeways (163 and 805).
    - Comfortable beds
    - Friendly staff
    - Free parking
    - Complimentary wi-fi

    Cons:
    - The wi-fi, although complimentary, is wired. It would have been fine if I had a laptop or netbook, which I didn't. So I had no way of networking via my iPod touch. Boo!
    - Had a slight miscommunication with housekeeping in regards to replacing my bath towels. They basically took the ones I asked to have removed, but somehow forgot to put in new ones. Who does that?! *shrugs*

These RI hotels are as close as I can get to "having my own place" in SD right now. Minor issues aside, I still love the service that Marriott and its employees continue to provide every time I visit.

I came down to San Diego as a small little anniversary getaway with my girlfriend.  Was browsing around different Marriott properties (I'm a Marriott Rewards member) and was debating between super fancy Marriotts.. or cheaper alternatives.  In the spirit of saving, I decided to go with this Residence Inn.  Having never stayed at one, I did not know what to expect but took a shot anyway.  The daily rate ended up being $109 plus taxes.  We checked in late Thursday night and checked out Sunday morning.  The drive to the hotel was a bit ominous taking the 52 east at 11 PM.  When we turned into parking lot however, the ambiance changed completely.  Both my girlfriend and I instantly commented on how cozy the place feels!

We walked through the lobby and to the front desk to check in.  Talked up Dianna and asked if there were any upgrades available.  She obliged and we ended up with a bi-level 2 bedroom suite with a fireplace all the way at the end of the property.  Did some research after the fact and turns out that suite's usual rate is $199- $279.  Yay!

Grabbed our keys and drove all the way down the property to our building.  Unpacked, walked to the door and unlocked using our keycards.  We were so astonished when we walked in!  There was a full kitchen and living room.  The master bedroom has double doors that lead to it. In it held a king sized bed, small desk, closet and a bathroom.  There are stairs that lead to an upstairs loft that contained a queen bed, 32" LCD, and another bathroom! For the price we paid we did not expect so much!  This is definitely an extended stay hotel.

Pots and pans were all accounted for and there was even POPCORN! We ate the popcorn while watching Netflix (Psych!) over the FREE WIFI!  We used the pots and pans to heat up our leftovers from dinner.  We didn't even touch the upstairs bed but was happy that it was there as an option.

It's definitely an older property but definitely very cozy and felt like home.  How often can you say that about a hotel?!

We've stayed at several different Residence Inns in various states and there is much consistency from one property to the next.  We always get the two-bedroom two-bath option.  At some properties, including this SD Central one, the 2BR unit is called a "penthouse suite".  We stayed in suite 524.

The room was just like all other Res Inn penthouse suites we've stayed in from the standpoint of layout and amenities.

Great location, seemed like it was 15 minutes from everywhere.

What I didn't care for at this property was:
    - FILTHY FILTHY FILTHY carpeting.  My socks were blackened within minutes.
    - The air outdoors was so unbelievably cigarettey, it was disgusting.  I guess they insist that smokers all congregate outside in the same area which was, to my aggravation, an area just outside building 5.
    - TV lineup was wholly unimpressive, and there was no TV Guide or on-screen guide to help you know what was on at any given time.
    - Whenever people walked by outside, if they were talking, they might as well have been right inside your room with you.  Not so good if you're recovering from a day at Sea World and are desperate for your kid to sleep.
    - Parking spaces were tiny.  My rental was a smallish car but I struggled with the size of the spots.

Would recommend overall, as no other hotel chain offers rooms like this and rooms like this are an absolute must for our family.

    A word about the internet/wifi:
One of the reviewers below described the wifi as being "wired" which made no sense to me.  I messaged him to confirm what he meant by that comment and he said you won't be able to use the internet without an ethernet cable.  I was stunned and surprised, because that set-up would most assuredly NOT be "wifi".  But not to fear - that reviewer is 100% wrong.  It's regular old hotelly wifi where you enter the password and are good to go.

The room was more a suite than a hotel room with full kitchen and sofa; nice tv.  The table had crumbs on it.  Paper cups would have been nice as I never trust that ceramic or glass is clean (I work in the food industry).  Also an Iron for shirts, etc would be nice.  These extras would have boosted the rating to a solid 4 or 5.  Overall though this would make a great base to make food, watch tv and kick it in between exploring the city.

Our girls soccer team had to travel to San Diego for State Cup.  I worked with Marj in sales to secure 16 rooms which went extremely smooth.  The rooms were perfect for our two day stay.  Their clean rooms had updated appliances in the kitchen and a flat screen TV,    Between the games our girls had a great time relaxing in the pool, jacuzzi and playing on the sport court.  In the evening we gathered around the fire pit for pizza. The breakfast in the morning was outstanding.... 5 stars!  The girls felt safe while roaming in the hotel.  I returned home last night to receive several emails from the families commenting on a great choice of hotel selected for the team.

Thank you Marj for all of your help with the accomidations!

This is my second home! Our house got water damage so we stayed there for over 3 wks. The staff were so friendly and very nice. The room was always clean (They also did our dishes. They also charged our computers. Seriously.)

They have COMPLIMENTARY Happy Hour on Mon thru Wed.

YES, It's Complimentary and that means you get free beer and wine too!

Monday night is "comfort food night" so one night they served chili and corn bread, the other night was French fries and spring roll and Salad.
Tuesdays are crackers, cheese, and veggie sticks.

Wednesdays are BBQ night by they pool. They have veggie burger, cheese burger, grilled onion, baked beans, potato salad and of course free beer!

    Everyday they serve complimentary breakfast.

They change up the breakfast menu but it's pretty basic.  You get egg, sausage, many kinds of breads, bagels, muffins, sometimes French toast and they have waffle makers too.

This is a pet friendly hotel so I saw a few dogs with owners.

Pool/Jacuzzi/Fitness center are also available to guests.

The location is fantastic. It's right next to 163 exit, but it's close to 805 as well. Walking distance to many restaurants.

It's not close to beach or anything, but as a San Diego local, I highly recommend this hotel to anybody who visit SD for vacation. (But of course you must have a rental car to stay here). It's so laid back, staff is nice, it's never over crowded, and close to very non-touristy, not-tourist-trap kinda restaurants.

I loved the hotel pool and the fact that there was a small tennis court, a grill, and very nice outdoor seating. I'd stay here again if my work or travel ever brings me back to San Diego!!

Excellent Value for what you get!

We stayed here two nights after getting room from a deep discounter.  Hotel has 18 buildings with first and second floor access units (units with two or three bedrooms will have access on the second floor with a third floor story sleeping area).

We were assigned Room #1521 which was on the second floor.  It is a studio unit with a kitchen (electric stove, medium sized refrigerator, dish washer and microwave).  There is a desk, small sleeper sofa with coffee table, queen size bed and two night stands.

The bathroom area has two small closets, a separate sink area and then a door which separates the toilet and stand up shower.  There is an exhaust fan in bathroom, which is a little tight.

Room has motion sensor lighting and controls, which is a wonderful feature.  The sensors have ample time and have not shut off on us.  Room is very quiet.  We only heard occasionally people talking and passing by.  However, we did not hear the people in the room next to us.

The only minuses include:  1)  Stairway to second level is narrow when carrying luggage up/down stairs, 2) There is no liquid soap in the kitchen, only dishwasher packets - not beneficial when needing to wash a single spoon, 3)
Carpet was not vacuumed properly - found a penny and clump of dirt on the floor, 4) Not a lot of places to hang towels, which is typical for most hotels, and 5)  Carpet is located in the sink area of the bathroom (I personally feel carpet should not be in any parts of a bathroom area.

Buffet was very busy and full of 25+ people on Saturday morning and Sunday morning at 7 a.m.  Items easily ran out, such as no forks, no apple juice, no eggs, etc.  Items available:  eggs, sausage, red potatoes, oatmeal, waffles, bread items (bagels, toast, muffins), sour cream, salsa, cheese, yogurt, milk, orange juice and tea/coffee.

Fitness Room is located upstairs of the main office building.  There are two treadmills, one elliptical machine, one small universal gym and a few other items.  The pool is a nice size, and there is a fire pit, and mini basketball/tennis court.

Staff is friendly and accommodating.  Hotel is very easy to find from the freeway, and there are many restaurants and shops in the area.  Though hotel is slightly dated, it is well maintained.

Internet is easy to access.  Every time you initiate a session, however, you are taken to the hotel home page.  But otherwise, internet is fast and sufficient.

I would definitely return here.  The free parking, free, internet and free breakfast make it a great deal.

I love this hotel!  Not only is the location great, the rooms are very comfortable.  The A/C was on point, the TV was a nice size flat screen, lamps by the bedside also had outlets which was perfect for my phone charger, and the hotel included kitchenette with a fridge and microwave.  The only reason it's missing one star is because the bed was smaller than I had hoped.  I was really hoping for a KING size bed.  Other than that, this will definitely be our go-to hotel whenever in San Diego!

I decided to go to on San Diego on Easter weekend and booked a Saturday stay using a free night certificate. I really like the location because it's near the 163 freeway and many restaurants.

I was able to check in early and the room had a queen size bed, granite counter tops, a sitting area with sofa, large flat screen, full kitchen and work desk. The room also had two closets for additional space and complimentary Wi Fi. Breakfast was included and they offered scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, yogurt, bagels, cereal, oatmeal, waffle station, fruit, juices and of course hot tasty coffee.

Residence Inn is perfect for families on the go or the business traveler. I'll continue to stay at their many locations.

We have stayed at Residence Inn By Marriott-San Diego Central several times over the years and always found the service to be friendly and attentive. The hotel is within walking distance of San Diego and Grand Central Market unfortunately the Angel's Flight funicular railway which makes it easier to visit the GEM and is both historical and a fun short ride is currently under repair. During the summer, there are free concerts at California Plaza which was easily visible from our room.

Great value for the price.  The rooms were nice and clean.  Comfy bed,  studio w kitchen. Daily housekeeping. Comp. breakfast was good. Free wifi and parking. Stayed 8 nights to do the whole San Diego attraction tour w my 7 day sandiego go pass with my wife and 3 yr old. Visited legoland, seaworld, aquatica zoo, safari etc.  everything was within a 30 min drive.   Location was great off freeway.   They even had social nights on mon-wed @530-730pm.  They had solid food and drinks( beer,wine@soda) buffeted. After spending whole day at the amusement park and coming back to that was gravy.  Saved us some $ and time  figuring out where to go for dinner.

I read the good reviews before booking and I'm happy with my choice so I figured I'll spend a minute to share my experience . ...also a I spent a few nights shooting some hoops, swimming in the pool and running on the treadmill . Staff very professional., you don't even know they are there. I like the girl that's always at the front desk....Amanda maybe,  super cool.

First impressions mean everything and this hotel knows that and goes out of its way to make that first impression count. I was greeted by Ivan the Front Office Manager. He was warm, friendly, thoroughly professional and if I owned a hotel I would find a way to hire him away to work for me. He even called my room to see if it was to my liking. Wow! The hotel is spotless, well-maintained and at this time of the year has a mix of business and vacation travelers. It has been my wish to get away from the tourist-infested areas on my business trips back to my home town and I hit gold here. It's far enough away from the touristy locales so it isn't overrun with tourists who check in as two and then pack ten people into a room. The staff are professional. I mean, wow-type professional.

Maybe staying at the Old Town Courtyard was like hitting myself in the head with a brick - it feels so good when you stop. No, it's more. This is the real deal. The guests here are just different but so are the employees. It's a cut or three above what I have come to expect in San Diego and it's right off the 163, so downtown is just minutes away. Yep, I'll make the drive to stay here.

One thing to mention is that it's near Miramar Marine Air Station. If the noise of an occasional fighter jet bothers you, this might not be the place. I can sleep through the bombing of Dresden, so it's not an issue with me.

Free parking. Yes, I said free parking. Free Wi-Fi as well. Clean, spacious suites and great staff...what's not to like.

Oh, I'm gonna be back here!

I moved here from the Holiday Inn after getting a suite room that was a disappointment. What a difference! I toured the "penthouse" suite and a studio suite before choosing the bigger one, but both were very nice. The penthouse suites are upstairs so that's one downside, hauling luggage and shopping bags up and down stairs. But they are very spacious! Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, nice living area with L-shaped sofa and chair, three TVs, and a full kitchen. I felt at home. The staff was friendly and attentive to all of our needs. Okay, we only used the fridge and microwave, but we did use the cutlery and dishes, and it was nice to have a full kitchen sink and full size fridge. Anyone who wants to save some money by cooking rather than eating out would be happy here.

The sheets were soft, the pillows were a mix of feather and foam, but not lumpy. Plenty of outlets around for chargers. And it was blissfully quiet almost all of the time. The A/C made a pleasant white-noise sound and cooled the rooms adequately. Water pressure was good, towels were fine. I really don't have anything bad to say about it. For the price, it was a really nice room. But when are hotels going to take a tip from Cinepolis and put home theater recliners in their rooms?

I love this place for the location. I frequently go to San Diego and having Asian food on Convoy is not far from here. Actually a lot of place in San Diego is pretty "Central" from here. I guess hence it's name -San Diego Central.

This place is often the cheapest Residence Inn within San Diego. (I've stayed here about 10x from 2005-2012) What I love about staying here is ample parking, having a full sized kitchen, and having hot breakfast the next morning. (The typical Egg, Sausage, Waffles ) by their check in area.

What I don't like here is that it's usually dark in the rooms. If you like a little light, ask for the one upstairs. Most of the rooms here are the studio plus kitchen. I've stayed here enough that sometimes , it's cheaper with a AAA discount while reserving with on Marriott's website.  Although I haven't seen it the past year, most of the time I stayed here with the discount runs me about $100 a night here.  I also sometime see this place on Hoteltonight about $110. If you have Hoteltonight credits, then it would be a good deal.

Oh, one time I stayed here, it smelled like pets. They were very good at getting me another room right away after I checked in but they questioned me like I was the one who did it.  I would say, that experience has led me to not give this place 5 stars.
Otherwise, great place, great location, and good value for this hotel.

I love love love Residence Inn by Marriott!

I booked a room for 2 over the weekend through Expedia only to come to find that instead of Residence Inn by Marriott- Mission Valley the lady accidently booked a nasty hotel called Mission Valley Resort. When I saw my confirmation in my email, I looked it up online and noticed that someone died in that hotel,  poop stain on bathroom cabinets, blood on sheets, molds/mildews on ceiling and the list goes on. I called Expedia right away and explained that I refuse to stay there and that it's not even the "Marriott Mission Valley Hotel". Thank you Expedia for finding me another hotel in the area and for the discount.

For $90 we got a studio suite for 3 people. It was stocked with kitchen appliances, king size bed, flat screen tv, extra pullout bed, BEAUTIFUL decor, grill, heated pool, free wifi and etc. The room was super clean and so beyond nice. From the bed to sheets to comforter  to even couch was so comfy.

We had complimentary water, popcorn, coffee, tea and  candy inside our room. Our room also came with FREE Parking and breakfast. OMG,  for a free breakfast it tasted like a 4 stars restaurant/quality. You can choose from unlimited scrabble eggs, sausages, red skin potatoes (top it with sour cream, cheess, salsa), variety of cereals, muffins, toasts,  juices, coffee, yogurts and so many more selections. The best part was the make it yourself waffle bar. You could add chocolate chips, whipped cream, strawberries and etc. I wish I had phone to take pictures of how the hot breakfast looked like. Everything looked and tasted GREAT!

    Opened from 7-10am.

Overall I would def book at this hotel the next time we are in SD. The staff, parking, food, room and everything else was excellent.  We had an affordable and memorable mini vacay. :)

Where else can you find "an affordable hotel" that's has modern interior,  full kitchen, very clean, free wifi, free parking and free BREAKFAST in SD?

This was the worst experience of my entire life. We called before to double check there were no additional charges, but we got here and they wanted another $500 that we don't have. Horrible service and the front desk was not accommodating. Never coming here again.

This place is noticeably better than the Mission Valley one.  We stayed in a penthouse suite which included a loft and bedroom and two bathrooms and it was very comfortable.  I've stayed at the Oxnard penthouse suite, so the suite features really didn't surprise me too much.  However, what I did like was the friendliness of staff.  From check-in to check-out, they were smiling and warm.  The breakfast buffet is a little crowded, but the quality is much better than what we had experienced at the Mission Valley location.  The other thing I liked about this Residence Inn is the location.  Kearney Mesa has many good restaurants and is close to other chain restaurants found in Mission Valley.  Also, it took us less than 20 minutes to get to Coronado on the Monday after Christmas (4:30 pm) - not a typical SD traffic scenario but the point is that everything is close.

Also located in Kearney Mesa are Costco, In-n-Out, Korean markets, Asian restaurants....get it?  While you do need to get in the car to go somewhere to eat in KM...it's not that inconvenient.

The suite itself was clean as well as convenient.  If you've been to a Residence Inn, you know what you get (cooktop, microwave, fridge, plates, utensils, cups, etc.).  The condition of the room was very good.

You can't compare apples to oranges...like Aria to Residence Inn.  They are definitely different products for different contexts and locations.  But for the type of hotel and what it offers for families as well as location, service, cleanliness, etc., I can give this place five stars.

The two story suite was perfect for our family. My dad had difficulty climbing the stairs to get to the suite. These are only offered on top floors with no elevator access. So, disabled customers should have this warning when booking online.

We checked in and even received a phone call when we arrived in our room asking if everything was great. Our room was spotless and all amenities were available. We never had to ask for anything. Everything needed was there.

Free breakfast was fresh and well stocked. I didn't feel like I missed anything getting there 15 minutes before the end. The employees were welcoming and offered to assist clean a table covered in syrup.

Parking was available by our room allowing us to bring our luggage to the door without difficulty.

We didn't get to try the pool, but it's heated to 82 degrees.

I would stay here again without hesitation.
