Miserable experience here.  Bought room for last weekend responding to an email advertisement from Marriott.  Did a search (using the filters on Marriott's website) for "pet friendly" and "San Diego."  The Del Mar Marriott came up at a decent rate and I was thrilled.   Drove the two hours down from L.A. only to find out that, upon check-in, I was told there would be a $75 pet fee for each of my dogs.   This was more than the price of the room!!!   The 12-year-old manager was not only matter-of-fact about it, but unapologetic when he was informed that the website did not advise about any such fee, and unsympathetic to the fact that I had just driven two hours.   The woman who I spoke with at the customer service 800 number was an even bigger moron, who kept trying to find "fine print" to read me from the website (the best she could come up with was "it says you should call the hotel for details" -- because there sure as hell was no mention of the fee.)    Customer service at its very worst.   Add to this the fact that they charge $16 for parking in an inconvenient parking garage (they block the spaces closest to the hotel as "reserved" for tenants of an adjacent office building because they'd rather gouge and inconvenience their own guests than forsake the hefty monthly parking fees they are probably charging their neighbors), but the location of the hotel is crap -- smack in the middle of a lame industrial park looking place with absolutely no ambience, style, or aesthetic appeal.  The place is a big zero and you'd be better off staying at a smaller, more run-down "beachy" type place near the ocean.

our family just stayed here for four days and i think it was one of the best hotels we've stayed in. the rooms were bigger than typical hotel rooms, the beds were EXTREMELY comfortable, their pool was perfect for kids (very long and goes from 3.5' to 5.5') and their service was great. we called to ask for a microwave and it arrived within 10 minutes. we called again for a crib and again, came right away. the staff were friendly and helpful. all around decor was modern, clean and classy looking. one side note - the elevators were huge and always seemed to arrive the second i pushed a button. minor point but it made us feel like we were at a small exclusive hotel. yes, parking is expensive but we parked on the back street for free and that worked out fine for us. best part - through priceline we paid $60 a night! whoo-hoo!! we would stay again in a heartbeat!

Wow,worst experience at a hotel ever!We arrived, got our key, went to the room, and low and behold,it was still a mess from the previous person who stayed there! There were wet towells on the bathroom floor, poop in the toilet, leftover breakfast on the table,USA today newspaper in the trash...My wife freaked when she saw it,and wanted to leave, which we did.I called the front desk, and got some bullshit story about how the room got entered in the computer as being ready, blah blah. They brought keys to a different room, but it was too late.Wife is a clean freak, and it grossed her out.Too bad,as we were going to have a relaxing day at the pool, and take in the races tommorow. We came home instead. Before we actually left the room(Maybe 5 minutes after I called front desk)some barely speaking english lady called appologizing for the room being that way....suck ass overpriced rooms. Why doesn`t anyone take pride in anything anymore?

The rudest front desk people. I wanted to check in and well, I was received with such attitude, I am an elite member, and thought I would be treated with a little more care. So I decided not to stay there.

This is in response to Chris A's review on 9-30-09.

I've stayed at this hotel and it was wonderful.  Our company has had two events there and the service was wonderful.  We had a great time. We had the entire pool area for one of our events and it was beautiful out there.  They even had a live D.J. playing over in their lounge area so our group got to  have that as a little added bonus to our atmosphere.

I was excited to see that this hotel has a new policy accepting pets.  I went on the website to see if this Chris was exaggerating his complaint and it appears he was.  There was no "fine" print saying to call the hotel for details.  It was plain and simple clear print to call for details if you are going to bring a pet.  It's not  hard to understand.  Just like any vacation, you do your homework and check on pricing, amenities, etc. for your trip especially if you have a pet.

I feel that this is just a case of Chris not doing his homework like any traveler would do and in return he is giving this hotel a bad review when they don't deserve it.

Please know that this place is very nice and you will get top notch service.  I just had to write a review in response to Chris's review because I am a fan of this hotel and felt it very unfair.

I got a great deal on the hotel room from Priceline.com .  The pool was great because they provided a DJ.  The parking was $16/day...expensive.  Other than that it was a good hotel for the price.

This Marriott was pretty decent. Pretty modern and kept clean. Their conceirge room had decent food in the morning (first time i had a breakfast burrito at a marriott) Parking is a little bit of a pain there since you have to walk a little bit from the structure to the hotel (not too much).

So I stayed here for a night when I went to a wedding in San Diego recently.  They supposedly have a pretty good restaurant.  There was an Elite Yelp Tasting going on when I was there.  The pool area is pretty nice too.  However, the room was just not up to par with the rest of the hotel.  I found two beer bottle caps on the floor in my room.  The shower curtain had black mold on it and the carpet was just filthy.  I just couldn't sleep comfortably.  Probably won't stay here again.

I found a great deal online for a one night stay for $143 here and it was well worth it.  The surrounding areas alone are reasons to stay here if you are from out of town.  I actually booked this hotel for a client of mine and I made sure to check out this place before she came to yelp it!  Upon driving to valet, the staff are super friendly.  The receptionist, too, was great offering advice on what to do and where to go (until I told him I was already from San Diego).  The rooms are your basic Marriott rooms, but they are comfortable and cozy.  Can't comment on the room service r amenities but based on what I booked and saw, it was worth the price for the stay.

We stayed here for two nights last weekend.

When we complained about our room smelling like mildew upon entering it, we were immediately escorted to a different room.

The gym is impressive with modern, clean equipment and a sufficient  variety of equipment. There are TVs on each of  the machines, and bottles of water and fruit are stocked.

The outside pool area is remarkable. There are three cabanas which are available - for free - on a first come, first served basis. They also offer food and drink service at the pool, though our server had to be hunted down and begged to take our order more than 90 minutes after she dropped off our menus. She wouldn't even look in our direction the more than ten times she catered to a larger party at the next cabana over.

And the reason I'm giving the Marriott Del Mar five stars instead of knocking one off for the less than stellar pool service waitress is because, after leaving my Tiffany necklace on the bathroom sink in my room (DOH!), Marriott promptly UPS'd it to me, and it was in my hands the next day. How's that for customer service?

I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Ok, I've never stayed here, I was just in for a holiday party, but honestly, it's a really nice Marriott! I kinda wish I got to stay over. The grand ballroom was pretty impressive, and everything was brand new and exquisitely clean... especially the bathrooms. That's a big deal. The food was good, too!

So I get this call from a friend of a friend to come down to San Diego to meet this other friend who has a business deal for me.

She said she will have a room in my name waiting for me at the San Diego Del Mar Marriott. I have been overdue for a trip down to San Diego so I headed south.

A Corner King Guest Room complete with room service, newspaper delivery, concierge & evening turn down and by the end of this business trip the girl I just met.  Outdoor Patio Lounge could have been the cause of that.

This Marriott also has a fine dining restaurant downstairs and was out of this world. I will review that separately.

Why do you have children running the front desk!?? Yuck never again. I will take my business to the double tree across the street. I had to wait to be checked in while I listened to laughter and what I would assume goofing around. If your not at the desk you don't need my business.

I liked this hotel and when i return for business, i suspect i will comes here even tho it is 15 miles or so from the customers i see. It was very fresh and updated / modern. the staff was dynamite but paying for the parking is probably the main reason why i did not rate this higher even tho it probably does not play in the same league as a hotel i would rate 5 stars. the beds were perfect and like most Marriott hotels (i stay in a lot of them) the pillows were awesome. The rooms were a little small for my taste. Basically the bed, small chair, dresser with Tv and a des area. No couch or sitting for two area. The pool and bar area were great. I did get the perks of being a marriott gold member such as free internet and coffee. However, i do not think they should make gold and higher members pay for parking.

Definitely a 3 star hotel.

The interior and the pool are pretty nice with lots of contemporary design touches, including an overpriced outside cabana space with a fire pit and flat screen TV ($500 minimum purchase). Of course, the DJ spinning on his Powerbook in the evenings and the hot air balloons taking off were definitely nice touches.

The rooms are small and the beds are pretty small too. They charge you for Internet and worst of all their room service ENDS at 11PM with no other hope of getting food.

We had a wedding here and the banquet hall was very big with a very helpful, complete staff of very hospitable employees. Other than that, given its location and lack of real amenities this place is NOT worth what they charge for a regular room.

My mom came to visit this week and we couldn't get a good rate downtown so I checked the Marriott Del Mar (my boyfriend gets friends and family at Marriott) and got a high floor room which gave us access to the executive lounge on the 11th floor. Somehow we also scored free breakfast too! The chef made his own granola which was so yummy!! The room was average size nothing special.

The restaurant and pool area are amazing! Outside there are fire pits and heat lamps to keep you warm. The DJ was pumping some decent toons and everyone was dancing. Inside the restaurant has all these little cubby holes for you to sit with friends and not be crowded into the bar. It was a great atmosphere and lovely place to hang out.
There was actually a wedding on Saturday night and the pool area would be a great place for a reception.

In actuality the hotel was only about 15 minutes from everything, not as far as I first thought. Also its really close to Torrey Pines Trails and you can get to all the great North County restaurants in minutes.

Best of all mom loved it which was the key.

This is a review on the Parking at the Marriott.  I just paid $18 because I lost my parking card.  Now it was New Year's eve, and I must have lost the card somewhere at the bar.  It was a great party, lots of people, numbers exchanged, drinks had, conversations, dancing.  Parking card was validated and then forgotten. I left the place at around 2:15 am, and truth be told, I didn't pay much attention to my parking card until I got to the gate and saw there was someone there.

Now in the past, when I've left a place at 2 in the morning, the parking attendants have all gone home.  Not so at the Del Mar Marriott.    So I couldn't find my card, and took 15 minutes looking everywhere for it.  Nowhere to be found.  I tell the guy at the gate my sad story, and attempt to compromise with him.  While he is sympathetic, there is no compromise.  Lose you card, $18, no further discussion.

My advice to anyone going to the Marriott, don't park there!  Park across the street if you have to.   But why take a chance on paying $18 just to park your car.  Not worth it.

Arterra......What a shame the restaurant has gone from one the best in this area to the worst. I would never go back. Menu selection for dinner poor, service poor, management ability to deal with problems when confronted poor. What a crummy dump this place has turned into.

I REALLY like this hotel. My experience is based on a single-night stay on a business trip, so others who have visited it more may have different experiences, but mine was definitely a positive one.

This is a classy, boutique like hotel that I never thought of as a Marriott; it seems more like a Kimpton Boutique hotel you'd find in San Francisco or Seattle, not out in the burbs of San Diego.

The decor is great. The moment you walk in you're impressed - it's not the basic run of the mill boring Marriott by any stretch of the imagination. It's also got a great bar, a pool, and decent rooms. I was able to get a refrigerator delivered without hesitation, and was pleased with the service.

Perhaps the only downside was that there was no safe in my room, and I'd have preferred the parking garage be gratis for guests and not paid parking, but since it was a business jaunt, it ultimately wasn't money out of my pocket. If it was, then I'd have probably dinged it a star for that.

But otherwise, I'd definitely go again.

Another nice new hotel in San Diego.  I usually stay at this one when I have business in the North County since traffic has gotten so bad in this town.

Standard Marriott service (ie nothing special).  The rooms are new and in good shape.  The hotel restaurant was surprisingly better than I thought it would (also a bit $$).  Gift shop is really just an alcove next to the front desk.  Bell hops are friendly.  No need to Valet park since the hotel garage is only 2 sotries and adjacent to the hotel.

The only downer is that the hotel is located in the middle of business park central off I-5 and Hwy 56.  You have to drive a few miles to get to the good Del Mar eateries.

I've stayed here 4x for work before, and each time was pleasant, except for the time they had their carpets washed and the hallways smelled like freshly steamed carpet. My rooms were always clean. The front desk receptionists were friendly and one even remembered me since I was there for 4 weeks straight. It is also close to the 5 freeway for your convenience.

The gym here is superb! They have anti-bacteria wipes to wipe down the machines, mini water bottles, fruit basket, disposable ear covers for the headsets if you didn't bring your own, fruit -infused water dispenser, towels, TVs. It's a spacious area and it always smells good and looks clean.

The downside was that you had to pay for Wi-Fi and daily parking fee [company paid for it, so it didn't affect me].

I have stayed here on business over 25 times - arriving once a week like clockwork. You would think that would mean something - like free WiFi, or a better room, or even a nod of recognition. Each week, it was like I had never been there, and I am not someone who usually cares about that at all. But every week for months???

Once a guy at the reception desk said "two more stays and you get silver membership" but when I asked him what that got me, he didn't know. I looked it up online and still cannot tell - I believe I get points I can use to stay at other Mariotts. Uh..thanks. When I traveled a lot to Dallas, the Omni would  instantly upgrade me to a Jr. suite (when available) and comp my WiFi and I only went once a month, not every week.

The rooms are semi-hip (flat screen TV, bright colors, etc.) until you start to look more closely. The carpet is definitely going downhill and a vacuuming is in order - and I have stayed in almost every room they have. There is no mini bar which is a drag, but the beds are very comfortable and the sheets feel like a higher quality than most hotels.

The biggest drawback is the room service food. Again, I am a business traveler, so I don't care about having a 4 star dining experience, but I literally stopped staying here because of their food. It is that bad.

How bad? I ordered a chicken and mushroom sandwich and it was so gloppy the bread was congealed by the time I got it and I had to eat with a spoon. Another night, I tried the other chicken sandwich and it arrived on a plain piece of white bread and was completely flavorless and raw tasting even when you added the condiments. Ordered the burger and it arrived with a charred black bun. I mean, charred.

I tried going upscale and ordered sushi. DRY as a bone and so expensive it made my head spin. (Keep in mind I have stayed 25 times.) Went for the wrap and it was so filled with spouts it was like eating hair. I finally would drive to the supermarket on my way from the airport and get a sandwich and some diet coke - I literally gave up. And I tried many of these entrees multiple times. Ever meal was a disappointment. I still cannot believe that.

The last straw was getting a room by the elevator with a door that did not lock. Other gripes: They charge almost $20 for self parking - and that is per night. The lobby is filled with locals cruising at the bar (how sad a town is this that you have to go to a Marriott hotel bar for nightlife?), there are many weddings and corporate events which gives the place a nice active feel, and the downstairs restaurant actually had great food. Sadly, if you travel for business and just want dinner in your room while you do some email, that menu is not what you will find upstairs.

I finally realized that I hated staying here. It would have been so easy to give me a better room or comp my parking or anything to note that I was there EVERY WEEK. So, I moved on, and frankly feel like a fool for taking so long to do so.

I stayed here this past week. The beds were really comfy and the room was nice, but not $200/night nice. The cable channels all had poor reception and the cleaning service was sub par and did not leave things very clean. The outdoor lounge was really, realy nice. They have great couches and a few fire pits with seats around them and is a perfect way to enjoy a glass of wine after a long day.

Unfortunately, I did not learn the "trick" to room service until my last day....ORDER OFF OF THE KID'S MENU!!!  (First off, the food is not good at all, but when you don't have any other options for breakfast, you have to deal with it.) The first morning I ordered an omelet the first day and it came with potatoes....really bland and rubbery.....and it was $22!! That night I called down to order breakfast for the next morning. I asked the person who answered about the kid's pancake breakfast which came with sausage or bacon and 2 pancakes for $9. (The adult one has 3 pancakes, no bacon or sausage and is $19.) She lied and told me the pancakes are smaller than silver dollar sized pancakes. So, I ordered the adult one with a side of bacon for a total of $23. My co-worker ordered the kid's and told me the truth....so the next morning I ordered the kid's pancakes. Sure enough, I got 2 FULL SIZE pancakes, fruit, and 3 strips of bacon for $9. And I couldn't even finish it. The pancakes are ok, but Whataburger has much, much better ones and that's a fast food chain.

The parking was really expensive....$18/day just to park yourself... even more for valet. Pretty ridiculous. We used the valet and when our rental car would not start in the morning (lights left on?? who knows...) they did not have jumper cables so we had to spend $50 on a service call to the rental car agency. Since we were on our way to a meeting, we didn't have time to wait for that, so we had to take one of their town cars, which they charged us for.

The staff was nice but this hotel is way overpriced for what they offer.

I've never stayed here so cannot comment on the rooms; but I do come here once a month for meetings in their conference section of the hotel. Parking can be kind of tight, but that's typically a staple in San Diego (small parking spaces leaving only inches between cars). The conference rooms are always clean, and ready when we use them, the conference staff are courteous, polite and do everything they can to accommodate our needs. The food is typically pretty good. It's not gourmet by any stretch of the imagination, but it's tasty.

I need to start by saying that I like Marriott. I stay in a Marriott bed more than my own. The San Diego Del Mar was OK as far as Marriott goes - it has pluses & minuses.

The pluses - the front desk staff is outstanding. They accommodated my (unplanned) early arrival as quickly as possible. I waited in the lobby for 45 minutes, but it was a comfortable wait. They offered to take my bags and the room was ready when I checked back.

The room was good as I expect for a Marriott. I was a little concerned that the carpets really did not seem that clean and another person who was staying there at the same time commented that her room's carpets were filthy. The in-room coffee is one of those single cup server things which really didn't help much for an eastern time zone-native that was waking up by 4am local time.

The concierge lounge was good. Typical breakfast for the most part, but they overdo on their cocktail hour "snack - it was more like a full meal available there (unlike most Marriott hotels).

Parking was OK. The spaces were really narrow though, which made it a little challenging. There was an attendant there some days & others not, so I guess it is a part-time pay thing.

The pool area looked nice, but the only time I had to see it there was some huge party going on so I never walked out there.

Overall, pretty nice experience. I will probably stay here again.

Stayed here for two nights this past week for the BMW training. We were greeted by a very friendly and helpful staff. Hotel is easy to locate off the San Diego Freeway. Parking is a pain though, $20 a night. The restaurant and bar is better than good, the nice outdoor lounge and pool with the cabanas is pretty hip. In all my years of traveling, they have the best beds hands down. Slept like a baby. Thanks again to the staff, they were wonderful and very professional.

Excellent experience here.  This was the first time i've stayed at this Marriot in San Diego, and I had a great time.  Here's why:

1)  Serendipitously found out it was Restaurant Week in SD, and the restaurant in the hotel was one of the participating eateries.  This meant for a set price, you get a 3 course dinner.  It was excellent.  Kitchen closes at 11, which is nice since I could only eat late some nights.

2)  They have a good gym.  It's small, but has new treadmills/elipticals and some free weights & machines.  Not great, but very good compared to run of the mill gyms

3) Friendly service.  The people there were always friendly and able to answer my questions.

4)  The room is comfortable.  The bed is soft, nice puffy and warm duvet, moderately springy pillows.

Not so great:
- Walls can be thin... I could hear people snoring.

But really, it was quite nice, and i'd be happy to stay here again.

I stayed here 1 night with my 4 and 6 year old boys. We had 2 queen beds and the bedding was luxurious!

The staff were wonderful and the hotel was clean, comfortable, and relaxing.  It's not necessarily a family oriented hotel (mostly adults at the pool), although there were a few other kids at the pool. Overall the people and hotel staff were very friendly.

We had a great time and would gladly return!!

We stayed here one night in May 2010.  By using a search engine we got a good price $89 for the night.  After taxes it was a little over $100.  We arrived one hour after the time selected and our room still was not ready.  After standing around for a few minutes looking annoyed, the employee at the counter offered us two free breakfasts.

- inexpensive
- good happy hour prices (everyday - even weekends)
- pool area looked nice
- nice gym w/free water
- flat screen tv in room

- $18 a night garage parking (we parked on the street before you enter the hotel and saved the $18)
- small rooms
- no free wifi
- breakfast buffet (even though it was free) was not good ($20 a person)
- no refrigerator in the room
- the hotel lost power 2 times
- WORST OF ALL - my husband was taking a shower and the water stopped - just stopped in the middle of the shower.  After about 2 minutes it began to spit out of the shower head again.  I tried the sink faucet, and it too had dried up.

I had to go to San Diego for business and I stayed here.

The rooms are OK.  Pretty standard fare but the walls were thin as hell.  I could hear the guy next door clearing his throat every 5 minutes and I could hear the kids next door just talking and playing.  I'm glad there wasn't a group of honeymooners next door.

The pool area is nice and a cool place to chill out at night with some drinks.  There were fire pits and heat lamps to fight the cool San Diego nights - but lets face it...it's not that cold there

Meh.  Got a deal for one night on priceline for $70 + tax (so like $95 total, and we avoided the $18 parking by finding something on the street).  Not very happy with the value and I have already written to priceline about my experience.

I wanted to hang out in Del Mar with my bf for a FUN weekend (so leisure travelers, not corporate) but this place was not cute, or fun or charming in anyway.  Not even clean!  Stains on the hallway and room carpet.  Tiny room and tinier bathroom.  Plus, location-wise, it's on the wrong side of the 5.  You want to be on the Beach side with the cute shops and restaurants.  We went to the bar for a nightcap and the $14 drink I had was awful.  No wonder the bartender turned his back when he prepared it - he was probably putting in the cheap stuff.

The only reason I am giving it some stars is that I feel guilty for being so mean when my bf and I had a really great time in Del Mar overall.  (Thanks to Jakes and Prepkitchen, for which I will write raving reviews)

The good: clean room, comfortable king size bed, quiet.

The bad:
-Roll out bed about as comfortable as a torture table used by the Spanish Inquisition.
-Parking charge is $20 / night and there is no street parking available if you want to avoid this fee.
-They charge $12.50 for wi-fi Internet.
-No complimentary breakfast.

Maybe somebody should tell the owner we're not living in the 1980's anymore.
Other hotel chains are offering all of the above for free. For example you get free parking, complimentary breakfast and free wi-fi at any La Quinta hotel -  and they charge a lot less for their rooms than Mariott Del Mar.

In conclusion: don't stay there if you want value for the money you spend. There are other hotels where you can get more bang for the buck.

Bar - Flatbread pizza was very good, prices a tad on the high side. Service was quick and friendly

Dinner - the Seabass was TO DIE FOR! Over a risotto type rice, this meal was one of the best tasting I've ever had!

This Marriot is one of the best I have been too great service and very nice people and just love that the rooms have been remodeled and is a clean hotel.

The only downside is there parking situation sucks.. you need to find your car and you are charged 20.00 regardless if you are a hotel customer.

Stayed here for 1 night for our anniversary, the rooms are small, but comfortable. It is conveniently located near the freeway and close to the beach area. Didn't like the fact they charge for parking. I mean come on ... $20/day!? Ridiculous! Also why do they charge for wireless access. Most hotels provide free access ... Come on Marriott, get with the times. It was an enjoyable stay, but a bit annoyed at all these little, ticky tack charges.

Stayed here over the weekend and it was great! The room was large and clean, and I loved how it was decorated.  We didn't get a chance to use the pool area but I wish we had because it looked very nice! The staff was very friendly and even sent up champagne for my birthday which was such a thoughtful unexpected touch.

Technically a full Marriott, this hotel has a business hotel efficiency vibe (which I like), and has the restaurant and full service hotel attributes. This hotel perfectly met my expectations and accommodated my preferences from my Marriott profile.

This is my Second time staying at this hotel.  Once, before it was remodeled and now, when the remodeling is almost finished. Before the Marriott was remodeled, it was no more than a 2 star.. Now, I give it a 4.  My only dislikes are the loud DJ on Saturday nights and the expensive Wifi and parking; Other than that it's awesome.  The people are sweet, they even went as far as to have someone run to the pharmacy to pick up my daughters prescription when she was sick and didn't even expect a "tip."  After this last stay,we will always stay here while in San Diego. I will consider it my "other condo."  Also, It's literally a couple minutes from beautiful Torrey Pines beach and about 20 from downtown San Diego without having to pay as much for a hotel.  Always mention if you have AAA, or USAA and your rate drops significantly.   Posting pictures to follow post.

Beautiful and clean rooms. Some nice furniture inside the room and a very comfortable bed make for a great stay. The outdoor pool and hot-tub area looks very new with cabanas, a fire pit and fabric covered recliners. Great location for Torrey Pine State Reserve and beach, Del Mar and La Jolla visits.

Went down for a weekend at the races and stayed here for one night -- have to say I was really impressed with the hotel.  Don't let the rather plain exterior fool ya...this place is gorgeous! From the hotel lobby to the pool and restaurant area -- it's beautiful and has that hip cool vibe to it.

We were on the 6th floor w/a view of the pool and lounge--  one thing that is so nice about Marriott is that you don't hear a thing.  We were really tired and slept til about 10:30 a.m. in the morning and never heard anything from outdoors or indoors.

As I mentioned, the pool area is gorgeous -- beautiful cabanas and seating area. My only concern is that I wondered if all the people there were actually guests cuz it seemed like anyone could walk in and use the facilities.  I kinda like it when they check cards or you have to use a card to get into the area at least. Regardless, it was really nice.

The location is great too..right off the 5. Only bummer is the parking is a smidgiei steep but there's really nowhere else to park as you're kind of in a business area. Regardless, we'll be back to this hotel next time we need to stay in the area! :-)

Our room had no natural light, and a non-existent view, because right outside of our window was a metal AC unit (or something ugly looking) that spanned more than the entire height and length of our window and room combined. Got messed up again!

But have to say, the sheets are luxurious. I want these for our home!

Wow! I can't say enough about the friendly and accommodating staff. Especially Chris at the front desk. I booked through hotels.com which was a mistake.-never again. I booked with two double beds but upon arrival hotels.com booked with 1 king size bed. BUT, Chris made sure we were all comfortable and accommodated during our entire stay. ( I didn't end up with a frown on my face) The lobby restaurant " Arterra" was perfect. The lounge area had a resort feel to it with a band  playing. The pool side cabana had fire pits which made the late evening enjoyable while having a glass of wine/cocktails and/or late night snacks. The Marriott more than met our expectations! We will be back Mr. Marriott!

We stayed here last weekend for a long family weekend after getting a good deal through priceline.  The staff was friendly and helpful, rooms were spacious and the location is convenient to the freeway making it easy to get around.  The fire pit and pool area is great with cabanas, lounge chairs and heaters.  Self Parking is $20/night and wifi is around $12.  I wasn't a fan of the linens, every time someone turned over in bed you could hear the crinkle of the sheets but the bed itself was very comfortable.
Nice little work out room with several treadmills and other machines overlooking the pool area.
We will stay here again.

I really enjoyed staying at this location with the friendly staff and more modern feel. The location is a bit far from downtown but the staff made up for that. My only gripe is, since we booked through priceline, parking was $20/day and breakfast was also $20/day although we skipped out on breakfast. I also wished that there was a door leading to the lobby closer to the parking structure. I can only image walking that in the rain.

As a disclaimer, I am a business traveler staying here on a corporate rate and a Marriott Platinum Elite member.

This hotel, like many other Marriott properties of this class, is geared towards the business traveler. The corporate rate and my status provided me with free WiFi and access to the concierge lounge. The corporate rate also provided me with discounted parking for $5/day (it was free in 2010, but I guess they've decided it's a privilege even for corporate clients).

What differentiates this hotel from other hotels in the area? The outdoor lounge with fire pit and pool area is a pretty cool.

The people at the front desk have been extremely helpful with me every time I've interacted with them.

A great, solid Marriott with easy access to IH-5 and California State Route 56.

One downside is for those of you that work and/or eat late. Other than Taco Bell, there's really nothing in the area for eats after 11 pm. And after I just read an AP report that Taco Bell contains less than 35% beef in their "meat mixture", I don't think that counts.

We stayed here for a 3 day weekend with our dog.

- I've stayed at many Marriotts before, but this is my favorite.  It is located in a nice area and nearby the beach.
- There is a town center a mile and a half away.
- The staff is extra friendly and always asking if our stay is fine.  Helpful when we needed it.
-  The resturant (Arterra) downstairs is really good.
- The patio is pretty and has a good vibe.
- The concierge lounge has free breakfast M-F and hor d'oeuvres on the weekdends.
- The clean up staff is pretty good.
- Very dog friendly.  Our dog got treats and a cute little scarf.
- Internet was free (I think because we have a gold card)

- The hotel isnt surrounded by much, except business buildings.  There was no one to walk to.
- $75 fee for a dog to stay (that is for the entire trip)
- $18 per day parking fee
- $12.99 fee for one movie
- nasty business man and gold diggers at the restaurant bar on the weekend

Overall, I had a very pleasant stay with lots of room service.  I recommend this place for people who like to stay in an area that is more quiet and relaxing, and nearby the beach.  I thought the stay was very worth it even though the price for parking was high.  It is very good for the price.

I stay at the Marriott Del Mar about 2-3 times a month for work. The property is conveniently located off of I-5 and is the biggest hotel in the immediate area. The guest rooms were remodeled this past winter, and are a huge improvement from the previous rooms. The onsite restaurant is okay, it's a bit overpriced, and you might consider going offsite for a meal. The fitness center is a bit small, but it works and has everything that you need.

Pros: location, remodeled rooms

Cons: no safe in the rooms

Good location with comfortable beds.  The coffee machine only had 1 pod.  I informed concierge to drop off more coffee, but housekeeping failed to delivery.  When checking out, the front desk was extremely apologetic and offered us free coffee and soda.  This was my 2nd stay, and I will definitely stay here again when in the area due to the comfortable beds and great staff.

Nice location as far as easy to find off the freeway. Ample parking. Nice room, down comforters, comfy bed. No good make up mirror in room, bring your own. Didn't hear the other guests, which was nice. Pool lounge was nice. I lost a pair of jeans in room or parking lot? And they were found and getting returned which made me very happy.
Hotel is a good location for skipping around, Escondido, the coast and other day trips from their location. Make sure to check for aaa discouts while booking, not available after the fact.

The outside lounge is a fun place to visit with people.  It is low key and has a chill vibe.  Kids can roast Marshmallows and catch a movie outside on Saturday nights.  Creative idea.  This is a fun way for parents to  visit and enjoy themselves.  I rented the patio outside for my 40th birthday party.  All the apps ordered were tasty.  The hotel was very easy to work with and very professional.   The Sushi bar and restaurant have good food.   The burger is a little dry.   The filet is yummy.   Salads are good.   Parking is easy.  The rooms are typical size,  and all. The pool area is a little small,  but it works.  For me it's a convenient place well located in Carmel Valley and has a more of a casual, chill vibe compared to the The Grand near by.   It's the middle option compared to the Double Tree across the street or The Grand up 2 exits.  It works and serves the community well.  I recommend my friends and family to stay there when they want to be in Carmel Valley. They always seem happy.  It's nice to have options now because not too long ago we didn't have many in the neighborhood.

After a 6 flight from NYC, we wanted to hit the sack. The first thing when you arrive is how modern and clean it is. They have fresh fruit-flavored ice water in the lobby. The outside lounge area has two fire pits, plenty of lounger chairs and heaters (it does get cold at night, around the 60º F range). Their pool area has three fire pits and many lounge chairs. They have a decent exercise room (mechanical weights and running machines).

The rooms are comfortable and accommodating, but ask the desk to make sure they place you away from the elevators or electrical rooms, as you can hear the noise. That was the only REAL complaint that we can say about this hotel. There is a fridge, ironing table and hair dryer. The TV offers many channels. The bathroom is well kept and clean, with the usual amenities (shampoo, soap, conditioner). The beds are the real center of attention, as they are some of the most soft and comfortable we've ever slept in.

There are two restaurants/bars (Arterra and Arterra Sushi), but they're only open till 11:30 pm. The menu is a bit pricey (appetizers will be at least $8, entrees will be at least $16), but the food is tasty and the sushi bar is maintained by a trained sushi chef who knows how The nearest open restaurant is over 2 miles away, so if you are arriving late, be prepared to either travel to get food or bring your own. There is Mexican restaurant behind the hotel, but they also close at 11 pm. There is a small strip mall a mile away if you need to get the essentials or to satisfy your Starbucks fix.

The hotel is located right off off I-5 freeway, with leads into San Diego proper. It's a 20 minute drive to La Jolla, and another 10 minutes to the center of San Diego. They have their own parking lot, and there are plenty of spaces.

I would recommend this hotel if you don't want to deal with the busy streets and masses of tourists, and prefer to relax and chill out while you stay in San Diego. We got our rooms for around $119 (which includes free parking, but NOT free WiFi) through AAA. You should book through any club deals. Hope this review helps!

The Concierge Lounge for Elite Members is FANTASTIC! The food is absolutely delicious, and the hospitality staff are warm, inviting, and delightful! This evening the General Manager and the Assistant General Manager mingled with the guests-very impressive (they were actually sincere and geniune). My favorite hospitality staffperson is Sara(h). She is THE BEST and the place wouldn't be the same without her!

This would definitely be a 5 star review if it weren't for the location. Really not good trying to get into and out of the parking lot. It's too congested and near a major on/off ramp intersection.

Do-it-yourself parking is $20/day, but the edibles and service in the Concierge Lounge make up for the added expense.

Hotel itself is beautiful! The place is gorgeous, clean and has friendly staff. I would stay here again if I had the need.

Major short falls are the Internet (13$ a day) and $20 parking. The wireless was so unreliable they refunded my money (admirable and welcome) but the business center was worse. Both printers were in disrepair and the LAN connection was worse than the wireless. In their literature it mentions that the Internet downstairs is slow, not abysmal. The computers made me feel like I was in a time warp. This entire amenity needs serious attention to bring this hotel back in to the modern age. I mean there are motels that have free wifi, come on Marriott. Customers expect this! Desk employee, Erin N. was kind enough to print everything for me.

Long story short, beautiful place that's wired like a cave.

With good weekend rates- this Marriott is close to the highway, and the beaches, so it is very convenient choice to anything in the Del Mar area.

The entire hotel has just been redone so the rooms are quite nice- large and spacious with a generous work area, comfortable bed (plenty of pillows and a cushy duvet) and functional bathroom with mid range toiletries.  The coffee is free in the room ( a must have for this girl) but there is a daily charge for the Internet.  My room also had a small refrigerator stocked with water during my stay.  And if you want a snack or two- there is a small "pantry" off the front desk for soda, chips, candy, etc.

While just a standard Marriott- the people who work here are quite friendly and accommodating.  From the front desk staff to the valet to the guy who brought me my room service breakfast each morning- they are all pleasant and made me feel like home.

And a couple of surprises for me were the pool area with it's comfy chaises and cabanas (a great place for my morning coffee), the rather large and spacious work out area, and the bar off the lobby which is a pretty "happening" place on the weekends with live music and a crowd that is made up from the various offices in the area.
Know if you drive (and who doesn't in California?) you are going to pay around $25 a night for valet and almost as much to self park in the garage.

All in all? A good choice for a reasonable hotel in the area.

We stayed here for NYE and I wasn't impressed. Thankfully I wasn't paying because the rooms were small and the party and noise from the guests attending the NYE festivities in the restaurant was annoying. We ordered room service for breakfast and my corn beef hash was decent and my daughter's kid's breakfast was generous. My complaint was that they didn't provide kid friendly containers for the juices we ordered and served them in fancy wine glasses....really?! Have you SEEN what my 4 year old can do with an overfull wine glass? We didn't have any major spills but it made it difficult for me to relax (which was the point, right?) because I had to monitor the juice situation. The way the parking lot is located is also irritating since you can only access it from one side of the street so if you need to carry bags to/from your car you have to use the elevators (which are far from the main lobby of the hotel itself) or else leave the parking structure and make a u-turn to drive back up the street and back to the front of the hotel. Pool is only heated at night so it was too cold to swim despite the nice day. Also, charging $13 for WiFi is absurd! I've stayed at cheap motels that didn't charge me for that.

-Very well decorated throughout the hotel
-SUPER friendly staff

-In a business area
-Food is just OK

We stayed at the Marriott 2 nights recently with our 9-yr-old son.   We had a king bed with a roll-away.  The roll-away was a full-size twin with very soft blankets and pillows.  The king bed was very comfortable.  The pool/jacuzzi area is lovely with an outdoor bar and private cabanas.  I don't know if they're always free, but we were able to use one for free on a Saturday afternoon/evening and it was awesome!  The cabanas have their own flatscreen TV, heaters, outlets, and comfy couches.

Other good stuff:  Friendly helpful staff; in-room coffee makers; in room refrigerators; tons of outlets for charging all your gadgets; very clean rooms

The only things I didn't like (and these are by no means dealbreakers): $20/day parking; $12.95/day wi-fi; no in-room microwave; very low water pressure

We will definitely stay here again!!

spa water in lobby...oh so yum!
pool ...love it! cabanas...lounge chairs...fire pits...super cool.

rooms...clean, comfy, nothing stand out...just like any other marriott hotel...

location ...good..only restaurant within walking distance is tio leos and i wouldn't go there...but it's a very short drive to the del mar highlands shopping center where is a huge selection of yummy restaurants and shops

also super close to the piazza carmel shopping center

parking is a hefty $20 a day

Location-wise, it depends on what you're looking for.  It's not particularly central, though if you're visiting any of the businesses in Del Mar or, like us, were going to a wedding in La Jolla and didn't want to pay La Jolla prices, then this is fine.

We checked in around 10:00 am without complaint, though my Marriott Rewards Gold status may have helped with that.  The room was very standard, very Marriott.  This means comfortable beds, fast Internet ($13/day if not included), a hot shower.  Altogether comfortable, but not special.  They let us check out at 2:00 PM, another gold benefit I think.

The lounge was closed, so we received a coupon for a free "continental" breakfast.  I say "continental," because it was the standard breakfast bar just without the custom omelette option.  But lots of good, healthy food otherwise.

I'd definitely stay at this hotel again if in San Diego.  Nothing "popped" out such that I feel compelled to give it five stars, but definitely solid.

Really I want to give this hotel 3 1/2 stars, but that isn't possible.  Despite the three stars, this really isn't a "bad review."  First the best part,  service was great.  EVERY staff member we interacted with was courteous and helpful during our stay.  The room was "ok,"  nothing bad, just nothing noteworthy.  Wait, that's not true.  The bed was wonderful.  Typically, hotel beds (even in expensive hotels) leave our backs aching in the morning.  Room service food was a joke, a bad joke.  I would list my complaints, but the bottom line is you do not get your moneys worth.  Not even close.  Would I stay here again?  ...I guess..., if I didn't find a better one in the area.  The 1/2 star is for the front desk clerk's recommendation for breakfast ("Snooze").  She suggested the pancake flight - GREAT suggestion!

The hotel portion is standard Marriott fare, pretty nice, but not exceptional. If your not getting a deal it's a bit pricey, but not horrible. The $20 a day for parking and $12 a day for wifi is annoying. A resounding MEH.

However the restaurant is drastically over priced and the food is mediocre at best. The price makes it taste bad. The AM/PM on the corner is a better bet.

I travel from Los Angeles every other month to San Diego for business and usually decide to stay at either the Marriott Del Mar or La Jolla.  I really do like the Marriott Del Mar and have chosen this hotel many times for my regional business meetings.  My only gripe that makes me consider booking my overnight and meeting reservations elsewhere, is the weak wifi signal throughout the hotel.  I love their restaurant, Arterra, but it is impossible for me to do any work on my laptop when dining or in the lobby because of a weak and/or nonexistent wifi signal.  Even connected to the hard line in the hotel room results in a weak internet connection.  When conducting my Team's conference call via remote live meeting from my room, I was extremely nervous throughout my hour call, that my internet connection would cut off while I was mid sentence or when going through my presentation.  This would be the reason I would stay at the Marriott La Jolla instead for future visits and when conducting meetings.

$20/nt parking fee.   I did not know about that part.  There is a nice restaurant on site w happy hour. The staff were standing talking to each other, so I had to wait at the restaurant for seating.  The reception area is nicely designed,  modern,  friendly staff.  The pool is outdoors.  There are firepits. No live band on a Friday night,  very disappointed as I read it was a hip spot.  There was no dj, music too soft, so I disagree with the hip spot in other reviews.  Just a nice clean hotel.

A very nice looking Marriott. Very clean and newly remodeled. The staff was friendly and we enjoyed our stay. The 11th floor Concierge Lounge for Elite Members was very nice and well stocked for breakfast. The hotel restaurant was really nice looking too, but was under-staffed with medium portions and high prices that just didn't match what was delivered. The outdoor patio and layout is really nice.

It did not seem busy during our stay. This could someday be a five star Yelp experience for someone, but the staff didn't seem well managed:

- Upon arrival, we waited six minutes for valet before finally going inside to get manager to find the guys. (She got them right away)
- Sat poolside 2-4pm Sunday next to dirty plates and glasses. No one cleaning at all. I had to toss loose cups myself, so they didn't go in pool.
- Had to tell the bar staff to put towels by the pool as they had been out for two hours and some mom was standing there helpless with her wet kids.
- Note that there was only ten people around the pool during this time, so it's not like people were making a mess too fast. It's that literally no one on staff was walking through or checking anything in the entire pool area.

I don't know why they treat Priceline customers like crap? I got a great deal, almost 50% off, and they seem to look down their nose. We arrived the same time as a bus full of volleyball kids. We were put on the same floor as them, right next to the elevator. Why? I had them move us within 20 minutes. The next room looked right smack dab at an office building. I'm glad I didn't pay full price. Shame on you Marriott. I expected better.

-The valet guy (young, wears glasses, dark skin) was phenomenal and extremely friendly
-The hot tub closes at 11- much better than other hotel pools that close at 10
-Offers a military discount

-It's 2013. Why should I have to pay $12.95 for wifi internet? C'mon...
-The breakfast was absolutely terrible, and extremely overpriced. I ate breakfast with a group of 6 and only one person in our group enjoyed our meal.
-Parking is EXPENSIVE! This hotel isn't in an urban area, so I have no idea why they are charging so much money! $26/day for valet or $20/day to self park. Highway robbery!

Overall...meh. Probably should have stayed at the Hampton Inn across the street.

Stay in the Gaslamp if you have a choice. Decent to good decent rooms. But it's 2014... Who charges for internet in 2014! $12.95 a day. Pool setup is nice. Gym has everything you would need. Asked for extra towels... They have yet to arrive and I checked out days ago. #neveragain

I adored this hotel. I'm kind of an annoying germaphobe, so I loved that the rooms were CLEAN! The hotel's sushi restaurant was surprisingly very delicious. If you're a wine enthusiast like me, I recommend Joseph Carr Cabernet. (We had 2 bottles!) The pool was gorgeous. The hotel had a movie night at the pool for all the hotel kids. We hung out under one of the cabanas and got pretty toasty while they played UP on the big screen. Such a great stay! I would have given this place 5 stars, but they charged $20.00 for parking! :(

Visited del mar/San Diego last week and it was great!  The hotel was nice yet it seems more like a business hotel.

Hotel staff were very pleasant with check in and valet service.

It was a little chilly so we didn't get to enjoy the pool (although it was heated!). Our niece and nephew could careless about the San Diego attractions, but wanted to get in that pool! Which is a great thing.
You have to get to pool early to get a cabana otherwise they will be taken quickly.
The jacuzzi seemed very crowded with a family who stayed in there the entire day so we didn't get a chance to enjoy that either.

In the late evening my brother in law and fiancé headed to the fire pits and hung out and had cocktails and chatted the night away which was great after a day of sight seeing.
There is also a buffet style continental breakfast at the restaurant or you can order from their breakfast menu.

I'm a loyal Marriott consumer so I will definitely be back for a romantic getaway!

We had an event here and they did a great job with 200 people. Their banquet food was ok and the set up in about 20 years old. This is a very average Marriott and seems to be of the type found near a freeway and out of a major city. Hmmm...both are true!

The rate was more than the Hyatt La Jolla which is newer, so we stayed 5 miles toward San Diego in a better property.

We took advantage of "dollar days" which offers some spectacular deals!

$1 breakfast per person in the restaurant-daily
$1 movies
$1 parking-dailly
$1 internet-daily

Amazing Hospitality!

Friendly staff like none other!

Gorgeous updated clean rooms!

Room Service food was delicious!  The potato leek soup so creamy and full of flavor, the lobster mac-n-cheese which was more like a risotto...but nonetheless the plate was licked clean!

My only downer was that the buffet breakfast server was really slowwwww in providing service and the food on the buffet was sloooowwwww to come out too, so hopefully they'll work on that, because it took waaaaayyyy too long to eat breakfast. I would not recommend eating here unless you are using a special. It's pricey.

So convenient to everything we want to see, this is our go-to place when in San Diego!

I've been a Marriott's rewards member for over ten years and I'm a loyal customer because they always deliver and never disappoint.

We will be back!

Not a bad stay at all. Out of the three hotels we stayed at while visiting the San Diego area, this one had the best lighting, the biggest restrooms - I need my vanity space - the largest room, and the cheapest parking.

Check-in was easy, as opposed to the parking. There was construction going on, and looping around to find the garage was difficult, and exiting was even more confusing. And unfortch, we pre-paid for parking in our hotel booking, but it ended up being free because of all the construction.

Other than that, if you're in the Del Mar area and don't have baller money ($600 per night) to stay at the Del Mar Resort, than the Marriott Del Mar is a great option.

I travel quite often for work and pleasure and have seen the inside of many hotels.  The Marriott Del Mar is nothing special, it pales in comparison to my recent stay at the Hilton in La Jolla Torrey Pines with views of the ocean.

The staff is friendly and attentive, the food in the restaurant is average, the mimosas however are amazing!  How can you mess this up though...really?

The rooms are clean and up to par, no mini-fridge.
I did however experience watching a movie in my room and the screen suddenly went black but it was still on, it was late so I threw a blanket over it since the power button wasn't working so I can turn it off and get some shut eye.  They quickly fixed it the next day.

$119 per night found a deal on their site...mainly so I can rack up more reward points
$20 per night for parking
$16 to watch a movie!!!

P.S. when booking request for an early check-in 99% of the time they will accomidate

Our Valentine's Get Away with 15 other couples was a success thanks to the Sales Team, Mary Grace Glorioso & Kim Joshway Goharlaee.

The beds were HEAVEN sent, I didn't want to get up
The rooms were clean and small but not claustrophobic small but comfortable small
The Lounges they have are perfect for conversations
The Fire Pits was my favorite
The pool was great, the cabanas were excellent, felt like a retreat in the Bahamas

I would have rather stayed at any other hotel.

terrible experience- surprising for a Marriot.

1. I was there for a PGA tournament this past weekend and they had absolutely no idea what they were doing. A few months before- I spoke to the front desk and they said that I could request an early check in and to call the day before to give me an idea on if it would be possible or not. I called the day before so that I could plan out where I would park and if we would be able to check into our rooms or if we should just go straight to the event and park there-- the woman on the phone was really rude to me and said that she didnt know why someone told me that I could call the day before to get this info and said they will have no idea until I get there. This is understandable, but then why tell me to call at all?

2. I called again to ask about any hotel shuttles for guests that would transport us to and from the course--Jared said yes, that there was a complementary shuttle to and from the event that would run from 8-830pm. Great. But when I called the morning of checking in, no one really know anything about the shuttle and then finally I spoke with someone who's name I think was Paulo- who said that the shuttle starts running at noon. So....thats an awesome disconnect. I explained what I had heard from Jared the day before and he was very confused and put me on hold- then came back and said that someone could drive is there in the shuttle when we got there. Another disconnect we learned when we got there was that the shuttle drops us off at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, not the event--which would have been nice to know ahead of time. When we got to the hotel and requested the shuttle, the woman who drove us there had no idea how to work the car, or even turn it on. She was very confused and also didnt really know where to drop us off. We had to drive around until we finally found the entrance.

3. When we returned back to the fair grounds from the event- we called the hotel to request another shuttle to take us back to the hotel- the woman on the phone who's name I think was Brittany, said they run every hour on the hour. 45 minutes after the hour they finally showed up, but we also had no idea where to go to get picked up and no one at the hotel could even tell us where to go. So we just walked around the fairgrounds parking lot until we finally saw the unlabeled mini van.

4. When I called to complain about this (and honestly decided to just take a cab moving forward for all the other days we were going to the event), the woman on the phone said "to be frank, we werent planning on doing this shuttle service but due to the demand of our guests we are doing it and are still working out the details." Dont you think that if you are a hotel and completely booked/have a room block (which I know was the case) because of this PGA tournament you would prep and sort out all these details ahead of time? I was experiencing this on day 2 of the event- so it wasnt even the first day. Also, I organize corporate events for a living--I would never in a million years tell the client/customer that we werent planning on doing this so thats why it's all unorganized and difficult. That;'s not the cllient's problem. Either do it and do it right or dont offer it at all and just let guests figure out their own way to events.

5. Our room smelled like smoke and there were 2 spiders in the shower.

Overall, if you are going to stay here for an event nearby--do not expect them to have their stuff together. Again, I plan and execute events for a living and can't express how annoyed I was about all the disorganization. I would have just taken a cab instead of used their shuttle service had I known it was going to be such an issue. I would have stayed at a different hotel had I known the room was going to be so unappealing.

Stayed here over Memorial Day weekend.  Was glad to be able to get early check-in which was accommodating.  Room was nice, clean, had a small fridge.

Had a room with a view of the pool and spa, actually located 2 floors up from the spa.  While nice, it was a bit noisy when parents let their kids go in the spa after 11pm at night.  When we arrived Friday, the spa looked clean.  We witnessed young child after young child in the spa during the day/evenings with pool toys making it not very welcoming for any other guests and by Sunday am, the bottom of the still water spa was green.  Based on the ages of the small children lining and taking over the spa, its no wonder it was green and very un-inviting and we didn't want to enter the water and take our chances.

I don't know what it was but every morning we were woke up to what sounded like bowling balls being dropped on the floors above us, it was LOUD!  This was the biggest negative of the stay, this as well as being able to hear all neighbors, the walls are thin.

If I stay here again, would request a room higher up and away from any stairs with the hopes the excessive, waking noises would be avoided.

Not saying I'm a huge fan or that it was awful, I'd say average to slightly above.

Love this place! Great hotel if you're Marriott Platinum because you'll avoid the ridiculous $20 charge to park your car as well as the internet fee. Very conveniently located to the 5 freeway and all north county business. Great concierge, fantastic sushi (yes, really!) and awesome bar except for the obsessively texting female bartender I had Sunday night. That was my only blip.

1.Front desk staff including the manager were nasty and unprofessional.  They should not be in the service industry.

2.There was a loud party on my floor all night long.  We called and switched floors at 2am.  There were people drinking and running down the hallways like a frat party.

3.I did not receive the rooms that I booked, two queens instead of kings.  (we booked 4 rooms)

4. Parking garage card reader is broken.  We had to push a button and wait 5-10 mins for the valet to open the gate.

Stayed at the hotel for a wedding. Staff is nice and fairly helpful/available. That is the good.
Now the issues.
1 dirty bathroom on checkin- towels stained and dirty floor
2 dirty lipstick glass in the restaurant- a personal peeve of mine as a former server which i find quite disgusting
3 lack of toiletries- one bar of soap no gels/shampoo. So to shower take the bar from the counter.  Its like im in college again.
4 bland tasteless food in the restaurant.- my breakfast for 3 people was $55 and it made mc donalds seem like a flavor bouquet.
The event staff was wonderful and the food for the event was great which made the breakfast that much more frustrating.
5 the hotel bar closes at 11pm on Saturday night. Are you kidding me?
6 my wife called for a car to take us to the wedding and the concierge said we dont  provide that service. When i called down to bell desk the attendant said no problem. So depending on who you talk to we can provide service? Awesome work kids.
7 bed pillows are like throw pillows. They are like my ex girlfriend nice to look at but incredibly painful to deal with in its intended purpose.
I dont know how the hampton inn and residence inn across the street are but they cant be more frustrating than the marriott del mar.

Nice Marriott. Big bar area inside and fire pits out. Restaurant has a small but serious menu. I think they do a lot right here. Only complaint is the concierge lounge is much less well managed than most Marriotts at this tier. I see better food and attention at most other Marriotts.

Overall, I prefer staying here over the hilton Torrey pines. I better hotel experience albeit no views and location benefits that the hilton provides.

Ok. . . . so it had its ups and downs. Restaurant was great!!!! Rooms & entire hotel were very clean! Front desk. . . . not so much. If not for the inconvenience would have done 5 stars.

When i checked in the attendant asked me if 2 oclock was ok for check in given my package included late check in. The following morning i got an invoice under the door stating check out was at noon. I called front desk and i dont know if its because it was busy (i called three times and didnt get an answer) but the misses was rude and agitated on the phone, telling me i had to check out @12. She ended up letting me do 2.

Went to dinner the first night at "Arterra" the setvice
was great, food was AMAZING, but there was a bit of a mix up on payment. It was fixed after dinner.

Breakfast was just as amazing @ ARTERRA.

Overall got an amzing deal for room, dinner & breakfast. Would definitely come back but hope for better customer service.

The only parking is in there structure which is $20, i thought that was ridiculous and unnecessary.

Pretty much echoing most of the reviews:

Located in a business park, there's not a lot within walking distance.  But Del Mar Highlands and Piazza Carmel shopping centers are within a mile - great for basic restaurants and grocery stores.  Easy access to Highways 5 and 56 - you're within 20 minutes of a number of attractions.  I got to UTC Shopping Center in 10 minutes.

Very nice ambiance in an upscale hotel.  I'd say 3-1/2 to 4 stars.  Well-appointed, well-maintained, clean rooms.  Nice desk and flat screen television.  Basic bathroom.  Super fast elevators (one of my pet peeves).

Every employee was courteous, friendly and professional.  Accommodated an early check-in without a hitch.  Check-in to check-out, a really awesome staff.

I got a great rate on Priceline, which included free parking.  But as most reviewers noted, you can tell this is Marriott expensive.  While checking in, another guest was quoted $20/day for parking.  Internet access was extra - unusual these days. Fortunately, I always travel with a mobile hotspot.

Negatives: my room looked out over a utility roof - no view.  No hypo-allergenic pillows (there's that pet peeve again).  Hence the deducted star.

I'd pay more than I did on this occasion and still consider this a good stay.

Solid place to stay, especially considering the price.

We booked with an AAA discount so our room included parking.  We paid about $120 for one night including parking on a last minute trip on a Saturday night.  I believe parking is normally around $20.  Getting the package with parking was totally worth it.  The garage wasn't full when we went.  If you get the package with parking, you can just park in the structure before you check in and they will take your parking ticket and you can just use your room key when going in and out.  They were also nice enough to give us free wireless internet.

The location is near some other hotels and business buildings.  You'll need a car to get around if you stay here, but the area itself is nice and quiet.  The rooms are nice, pretty standard for Marriott.  The bed was so comfortable.  The bathroom is a pretty good size as well.  The overall hotel decor is modern and aesthetically appealing.

The hotel has a pool and small jacuzzi, which are open until 11pm.  They have a gym also.  There is a restaurant/bar/outside lounge that is pretty nice.  We got a couple pieces of sushi at Arterra - pricey, but convenient and tasty.

Check in was quick and easy and the staff were nice.  You can download the app on your smartphone and check in and our on your phone.  We utilized the mobile check out - seamless and convenient!  We definitely would come back again.

1. Stained towels, obnoxiously loud continuously running toilet, water from the sink and shower fluctuates between super hot and cold
2. Horrible view of freeway/construction mud area
3. Looked forward to using outside bar lounge area, but wasn't notified before and during check in that there was a event taken place there.
And to top it all off, we had mentioned that it was our 11th anniversary yet no one took note or even seemed to care- no "happy anniversary" or even a card
The two stars that are given are because of how friendly the staff was and how reasonably priced the in room dining menu is. The hotel itself was nice, very clean and well kept.

Typical Marriott. Nothing special. This hotel is smack dab in the middle of a business park, charges $20 a day for parking (no other choice!) and tries to appear upscale but really IS JUST mediocre offering. Yes, the hotel is more expensive than the surrounding ones in the area. However, it's extremely convenient if your seminar is held here. Also, the restaurant was convenient and decent. The outdoor pool and whirlpool spa area was great especially to lounge in a shaded area to recharge briefly. My experience with the staff was good and I had no issues but if you're demanding and a self-focused, then perhaps this hotel is not for you as the staff will probably not give you enough lip service to your behind. The hospitality arena prices are determined by supply and demand so it's a great place if you are here at the right time. If you're attending a sold-out event, then the price will most likely be higher... So if you are price conscious, you can stay across the street at the Residence Inn or Hampton Inn.

I really enjoyed staying here for Valentine's Day weekend on a short trip to San Diego.

This hotel has a very modern and classy feel - one of the best Marriot hotels I've been to so far. No freeway traffic noise..

The hotel staff are very polite and friendly.

Parking is complimentary when staying as a guest (at least it was for us! lol) - you'll need to use your room key.

Our room was very clean. The room ammenities included a flat screen tv, mini fridge, small coffee maker (sample coffee and tea), study desk, smartphone speaker dock, iron and ironing board. The bathroom was very clean and the toiletries included smelled great. We were able to have the best sleep during our stay. Did not experience any disturbing/loud noises coming from the hallway and rooms nearby lol

We'll book with this hotel again next time we're in the area!

I was, once upon a time, a constant road warrior and I loved Marriott.  I stayed almost exclusively at Marriott properties.  So I have a certain expectation from this chain.

I'm no longer a constant traveler, but still manage to get around.  This hotel was a bit of a disappointment. The room was OK.  Everything was just OK.  It was a pretty expensive stay for just OK.  Staff was disinterested and a little snotty -- nothing that I can call out specifically, just an overall impression.

Getting room service was next to impossible and closed very early.  When it did come, they forgot half of what we ordered and the food was substandard at premium prices.  Marriott standards seem to be sliding.  And $2 for a cup of crappy coffee with the little plastic stirs in small cups in the lobby, when most hotels provide free coffee, was the sure sign that they care only about money and how much they can squeeze from each customer.  It wasn't the $2, it was the point.  And who charges for internet anymore?  What?  $13 for 2 bars of wireless access that froze constantly.  It was the perfect summation of how this hotel seems to operate -- poor service at premium cost.  Our group had 10 rooms...we couldn't get free internet or coffee?  Poor form.

Marriott will live without me.  I'm considering heading back out on the road and think that this time I will go with the Hilton Honors program and skip Marriott Rewards.  We've stayed in a lot of Hilton's lately and, with the exception of the most recent, they've blown Marriott away.

Meh.  If you're stuck here for work and someone else is picking up your tab, then you will survive. It is clean.  If you're coming to San Diego to visit the beautiful city and enjoy yourself, your money is better spent elsewhere.

Stay at a lot of marriott hotels and this is one of the nicest. Convenient to beaches and freeways. Near some of the best towns in San Diego area like Carlsbad, Encinitas and Solano Beach. The hotel itself boasts the following:
Bigger rooms each with a fresh air system which made room smell very clean.

Great sushi restaurant in the lobby.

11th floor breakfast/lunch for reward members.

Free wifi for reward members.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Was told I would receive a $25. Credit on my bill at checkout and when it didn't appear the staff just took off about $40. In charges.

This hotel is why I try to always stay at a marriott when I travel.

Room was not clean and there wasn't  any soap...Shampoo...etc...on check in. And did bring it up after request.
Room service food left outside door for 2 days...still outside when checked out...
Needed to ask 3 different times to get towels.
Food naturally over priced and ok.
Pool area very nice except there is not 1 area that doesn't play music...speakers everywhere...
A lot of money and a lot of extras for about an average place. $15 bucks for people who need wifi and not charging it off to a company and parking fees priced for NYC...
Better places to spend money for your holidays. Disappointing.
Poor management...

I was sooooooo disappointed with this hotel!

I surprised my boyfriend with a trip to San Diego for the weekend. We arrived early, and I asked the lady at the front to let us know as soon as our room was available; she assured me she would call. Twenty minutes past our guaranteed check-in time, we went to ask a different lady if our room was available. She mentioned there was a note that said to call us if our room was ready... Yet none was made *rolls eyes*
This second lady then asks if I would like to use the self-parking so that she could make sure our key cars would activate the entrance and exit of the parking structure. I said yes, but she failed to inform me that it would be a $20 charge. It's not so much that I minded a parking fee; I just didn't like being charged for something without being informed of it first.

Our night there? We could hear other occupants enter and exit their rooms. I could hear people using their sinks in the room next to us...

Instead of slipping our bill under the door, our bill (with my name and some contact info) was left OUTSIDE our room--a foot AWAY from the door! Just a piece of paper laying there for anyone to pick up. Seriously?

The room was fairly decent, so I'm leaving a two-star rating as opposed to a one-star rating. However, this was my first and last time staying at this particular hotel.

My daughter and son-in-law went to the hotel and checked into two rooms. One for them and one for me and grandkids, I got there after they had checked in.  My daughter told me there was a key, at the desk, under my name.  No key and was told my daughter and son-in-law were not registered, after 20 minutes they found they were registered! We were suppose to have adjoining rooms, but no luck.
I called room service and was told it would take a half hour to get the order, about 1 1/2 later we got our food and it wasn't right!  Service was bad.

Liked the pool, liked the area and their spacious room. but disliked the noise at night.  The night shift worker didn't seemed to care much which made our stay terrible. However, the frontdesk manager took care of us and compensated our troubles. There are rotten apples here, but I would have to say the service is satisfying.  I wish I could try it over but I am just afraid of paying a lot of money, and ending up in a room next to a hooker or something.  But as long as you can count on every worker here, even at late times you would be fine staying here.

***This Marriott in San Diego (Del Mar) is upscale and contemporary; while it is located in an office park and the service probably could have been better, this is one of the nicer Marriotts I have stayed at recently***

Most Marriott brand hotels are business friendly and this Marriott is even located in an office park.  While its location will be a drive to San Diego's top attractions, this hotel delivers a more luxurious stay than what you will get at other Marriott hotels.

The hotel lobby is upscale and looks great during the holidays (big and nicely decorated tree right when you enter).  This hotel's restaurant has a contemporary look that is slightly sleek though it is also warm and welcoming.  Though this Marriott is not oceanfront, you kind of get the feel that the ocean is near with the great natural light and open area view that is made possible by the floor to ceiling windows in the restaurant.

In terms of the rooms, they focus on the clean, comfortable, straightforward, and functional look of most Marriott rooms.  Marriott rooms are nice enough, but they are not very interesting or memorable.  This Marriott though has a few unique touches.  The sitting chair is done in a contemporary green color.  The artwork is also more interesting than what most Marriott properties use.

The room temperature was pleasant and the bathroom was clean--good water temperature and pressure too.

On weekends, Marriott Rewards Gold and Platinum members are provided with breakfast for two in the hotel's restaurant Arterra.  This restaurant does not feature a buffet at breakfast though the voucher for Marriott Rewards Gold and Platinum members is generous and you can get hot dishes and not just a continental breakfast.  Their breakfast is good and showcases good entrees like eggs benedict as well as thick brioche French toast topped with pecans, whipped cream and warm maple syrup.

Service was where this hotel fell short (at least when compared to other Marriott properties, which tend to feature stellar and personable service).  The front desk was pleasant on arrival, but they forgot to scan my room card correctly so I had trouble exiting the parking structure.  In addition, the front desk did not inform me about what this Marriott's breakfast offer was; I had to ask (a minimum of complimentary continental breakfast for two is provided to Marriott Rewards Gold and Platinum members on weekend stays; if breakfast is not offered, additional Marriott Rewards points are provided).

I did not get to check out a lot of this hotel, but the outdoor pool and lounge area was impressive for a Marriott property.  The pool featured a great lounge area with upscale outdoor furniture; it looked more like the pool area you would find at a boutique hotel than a Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton, or Westin.

Room rates here can be surprisingly reasonable on weekends if you plan far enough ahead.

This Marriott is nice and upscale.  If this Marriott was located in a lively area, the room rates would be significantly higher given this hotel's contemporary and even luxurious decor and amenities.  This Marriott is located in a nice area though it is not within walking distance to many leisure destinations.  If you do not mind having to drive for dining or activities though, this Marriott is a good option for a short or long stay in the San Diego area.

Valet and self parking are both offered.  Self parking is available via a parking structure at $20 per night.

Checked in late after a long few days, Sam at the front desk was awesome, so helpful, sharp, quick and kind. Couldn't ask for more. It's guys like Sam that keep me coming back to Marriott. Room is clean and quiet. Couldnt ask for more. Gnight.

This was a very nice hotel for a nice little weekend getaway. I thought the overall ambience was nice and trendy with fancy cabanas, firepits, and comfortable exterior seating. The service was super friendly and we were able to use the Executive Lounge to enjoy some appetizers and breakfast so it was a cherry on top of the sundae.
The room was clean and large but I did think the bathroom was nothing impressive to share. Overall the stay was great and if we were in the area, I would choose to stay there again.

I've stayed in hotels all over the world and I have to admit, I was surprisingly impressed with the Marriott, Del Mar. From the cleanliness, to the service, I enjoyed my short weekend getaway.

Easy checking in and checking out is always a bonus for me. Especially when I already take the time to make sure my arrangements are made online, beforehand. It's great to arrive and basically walk in and get into the room.

Staff was very friendly. From the valet, to the front desk to the restaurant staff - they seemed genuine, not fake. The staff even accommodated my small group with letting us sit in an area of the bar, that was closed so that we would have access to plug our laptops in.

The outdoors cabanas along with pool and jacuzzi were kept up really well and a locker room is provided so you're not making the trek thru the hotel half dressed and soaking wet.

The rooms were quiet or well insulated. You're far way enough from the freeway not to hear the vehicular traffic. My room was spacious however, my friends' room, with two beds was a little on the tight side.

Some may not like paying for internet but I always travel with my own MIFI. It's ten or fifteen bucks depending on the bandwidth package you choose.

Garage parking is available free to hotel guests in addition to valet. I also liked the restaurant, Arterra but that'll be for another review.

Was I made by Hunter Douglas?  Because I'm a "fan" of this place!

Stayed here for a planning meeting and from start to finish, had a delightful visit.  Staff was friendly.  My room was clean and comfortable (although I didn't realize the soap was in a little pyramid shaped thing...I just thought it was a California thing, rolled my eyes and moved on).

The facilities were nice.  I used the gym twice and although I didn't go into the pool, the pool area was super cool.

The location isn't bad.  It's near some big offices so I'm guessing it targets business travelers.  I was able to go out for a run one morning and didn't feel unsafe at all doing a large 3 mile loop around the area.

The on-site restaurant/bar is pretty cool too (see my separate review for that).

This is a quality space.

This one goes out to Sergio the front desk person. I purchased the stay at this hotel from travelocity for a higher than average price for a hotel because from the pictures it seemed clean and the pool looked nice, which it was. I paid for three nights for a two queen size bed room.
My wife son and i stayed here this past weekend, we drove from San Francisco and finally made it to the hotel at around 1am we have been on the road for almost 10 hours. I walk in and was helped by Sergio, right away I can feel his condescending tone which I could care less at the moment because I'm tired and my seven year old was half asleep, we just wanted to get in our room asap!
Not that easy! You see according to sergio they had been sold out of two beds since the morning... I explained to him how I had pre paid for a two bed. He gives me a look as if he could care less, as in he expects three of us to share a bed or something I mean at this point I'm starting to panic it's 1am! After a back and forward he gives up and tells me he is going to look into his computer to see what he could do... he then says he was able to move rooms around and made a two bed available.... what the hell I thought they were sold out! This is awful business they are running never again!
Also 20 bucks for parking?

OK~ hands down best Marriott I have been to in a long time! What a FABULOUS hotel for the price!! I was honestly surprised.

1. The hotel is really pretty - Being in hospitality/design industry, we noticed all the unique details  that made it so whimsical. The Murano Glass sconces, art deco pendants and decor in the lounges were actually GORGEOUS and very eclectic. The decor of the hotel really reflected the gorgeous city it is located in. Sexy, hip and chic.

2. The Pool/ bar area is seriously amazing. EVERY.SINGLE.EMPLOYEE you guys have rocks. Everyone goes out of their way to make sure guests are comfortable and being accommodated. *CHRIS* - hands down the coolest, nicest, most patient Server I have met. We ate and drank by the pool for hours and he was on point and so gracious and swift- considering they were so busy.
I genuinely appreciated his awesome energy. Class act. *KRISTIN* in the restaurant/ bar- also a WONDERFUL woman and employee. She was so informative, sweet and patient as well. We chatted abou the sushi bar (LOVED) and sold me on it. We were there at 5:30 when the sushi chef arrived and could NOT have been any more happy and full! SO FRESH. Again, she was awesome and its obvious she, and Chris really enjoy working there.

3. The lounge at night is fun, sexy and hip. You can drink, smoke and lounge around on super comfortable modern seating, people watch, etc.

4. Rooms were great - comfortable and clean. The beds were heavenly. Housekeeping was on it.

5. Back to food - Crudite' by the pool was perfection. Fries also on point. Breakfast was vegan friendly for me. *ULYSSES* was so great and patient with the three of us at breakfast. Very informative, helped me with my vegan friendly requests and was so nice!

6. ALcohol ~ Amazing. Generous. Yummy.

7. Valet was quick and professional.

8. Front desk: Kale, and Billy Jean (Coolest names ever) were SO friendly and we didnt have to wait a minute to check in.

From the views from the room, to the great bar staff, to the amazing tequila bar by the pool, to the location.  This place was the best of the 3 Marriotts I stayed at over my trip to Hawaii and San Diego.  If you want a resort feel in the big city this is the place.  Ask for a balcony room over looking the pool.  Views of the harbor and seeing the Navy boats is just great and can just sit there with a drink in hand watching the boats go by.

i will be back.
