The mom and I stayed here during a mother-daughter roadtrip and loved it.  We used Priceline and got this hotel for about 50% off the online rate, which made the stay even sweeter.   Vivien W.'s description of the goodies is great, and I'd just add that the comforters were fluffy and the perfect weight (NOT creepy and thin).  We were soooo happy to come back to the room to relax in the evening, and woke up each morning extremely well-rested and ready for another fun day in San Diego.

A classy, stylish hotel in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter.  The attention to details here is delightful: a broad array of Gilchrist and Soames toiletries, a body puff for your shower, flavored half-and-half creamers for your Starbucks coffee in addition to regular half-and-half, Tazo tea, loads of fresh towels...I was pleasantly surprised by all the amenities, the comfortable bedding, stylish room furnishings and terrific marina/Petco Park view.  F&B outlets here have sporadic service, but the location, friendly staff (front desk is always stocked with dishes/jars of candy) and style are hard to beat.  Highly recommended!

Beautiful Hotel in the gaslamp quarter!  Very pricey, but given the area, reasonable.  The bar on the roof is small, but can be fun with a good group of people. I went during ComicCon and had a decent stay.  The TV in the hotel is very small. I would suggest they do a little upgrading considering they are charging so much.

What a treat for my husband and I's 8th year anniversary.  The room was fantastic - very large.  The bed was so comfortable - even the couch in the side sitting room was comfortable.  The style was also modern but not too art deco - which we liked.   We had a view of Petco stadium - which was great - it was not too loud. This is a great hotel to relax  for a nice getaway weekend for two.  It's in the mix of things but if you just want to sit back and relax, you can do that too.  The rooms are very quiet so you can relax nicely.  The front-desk attendant was very very sweet and she sent us chocolate covered strawberries and champagne with a personalized card.  The concierge was excellent.  All the employees were very friendly. We went to the top of the Marriott during the day - nice but it was sort of hot - they need to put in misters and umbrellas but the drinks were good and it has a great view of Petco stadium and the bay.  They have happy hour all day on Sunday on all well drinks.  We only stayed for one night and ended up staying another night at the last minute at a different hotel - we were curious about the other hotel.  We wished we stayed at the Marriott one more night instead.  The restaurant below is also good - I had the Frittata - it was delish - sat outside on the patio as well. We are definitely going to stay here again - the overall experience was so nice and it made for a wonderful anniversary celebration.  If we had the kids with us this hotel is appropriate for that as well.  Parking is a bit pricey but the valet was nice and suggested a nearby parking garage - $12/day instead of $30/day for the valet.  Overall an outstanding place to say - I highly recommend this hotel.

I had a great stay at this hotel in December 2009. Rooms were clean, updated/modern, and very quiet. Service at the concierge level was outstanding with a nice selection of appetizers. As always, the beds at Marriott are fantastic. Great place!

Staff is young and professional all the way.  Very accommodating.  The ocean view rooms bost views of Coronado, but also a lot of construction and Petco Park.  There are cd players in the room, so bring a couple of your favorites to create some ambiance.  Soleil, the restaurant below, is a wonderful spot for appetizers and cocktails.  The lobster quesadillas are a must as are the heirloom tomato flatbreads.  I would certainly stay here again, although the Gaslamp isn't really the area of town a tourist should stay in- dining and nightlife serve as the main purpose.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel August 2006 for 4 days and 3 nights and we had a good time. Originally we were only going to be there for 3 days and 2 nights, but we just haaaad to stay the extra night to see a Padres vs. Giants game. (Yay! Go Giants!) We had no problem extending our stay and we were able to stay in our room. The staff was very friendly and all of them, I mean ALL of them, asked us where we were from and made some comment about the Bay Area. We payed $270/night...I think it was a $20/night upgrade to have an "ocean view room". Really, "ocean view" means we saw a little ocean and A LOT of the Omni hotel. Considering that I spent a total of about 5 minutes looking out that window, it was not worth the upgrade.

Alright, so my biggest annoyance is that the hotel doesn't have a pool! We were told we could go to the other Marriott in the area, tell them we were from the Marriott Gaslamp Quarter hotel and we could use their pool. First, the walk was MUCH further than they had explained, and the directions were wrong. We stopped in a local Starbucks to ask them directions (which were wrong again) and then a police officer gave us the correct directions after seeing what looked like two crazies standing on a street  corner pointing in opposite directions.. By the time the hotel was in sight, we were so pooped from walking, we just got ice cream and walked back to the hotel without swimming. =( Oh, the Marble Slab right across the street from the hotel is FANTASTIC! I'd give it 75489302574 stars if I could! We did get room service twice from the restaraunt downstairs. I do not suggest getting the blueberry pancakes. They were awful! The rest of the food though, was delicious. Pricey, of course, but delicious.

I'd say this is the perfect hotel for someone who
    1. Likes the nightlife - they have a bar/club(??) upstairs that we took a look at in the day time, but never did go to in the evening. (I wasn't quite 21 yet during this trip), but it looked pretty nice.
    2. Wants to see a Padres game at Petco Park - it's just steps away!
    3. Doesn't like to swim - again, no swimming pool and it's not worth the effort to go try and find the other one!
    4. Likes to pay $10-20/day to park their car (no lot, mandatory valet)
    5. LOVES Marble Slab ice cream - because really, this was the best part of the stay

I guess I'm giving 4 stars because the staff was nice and I'm super big on service we got great directions to the SD Zoo and to SeaWorld, just not the other hotel to use their pool. The rooms were great and all room service was very prompt.

I don't think I'd pay $270/night to stay at this hotel again. We bought our hotel tickets late and also went during a busy time - right at the end of summer vacation. Maybe if we got a great deal on the rate and flight, I might stay at this hotel again, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. I was ready to give it five stars on Yelp until I discovered a giant ink stain on the comforter the day I was leaving (that is not Marriott material)! I did inform the front desk when I checked out but was surprised the housekeeping staff would even put that on the bed. I was on the 12th floor, and my room had a balcony! Great view of the seaport, the skyline, and all of the staff was nice from the maids, to the bellhops, to the front desk staff, and the concierge. The room to my door had a doorbell which I have never seen at any of the hotels I have stayed at over the years. The bar had daily drink specials and even though I did not get a chance to try the restaurants, I walked through Roy's leaving the Seaport and the decor and food looked great. This has the most beautifully designed pool area I have ever seen at a hotel, a waterfall and lots of space for chairs near the pool and closer to the hotel.  The exercise room was spacious with weights, a spin bicycle, a flat screen television, and mini televisions on all of the cardio equipment.  There was also a yoga room with mats and an exercise ball. Classes were offered, some were free and others had a $5.00 fee. The hotel is expensive but the price is worth it for a prime location, accommodating staff and beautiful views of downtown San Diego.

I am total fan of this place!  It is very close to the Omni and the new Hard Rock Hotel! Check in took 5 minutes or even less! We stayed on the 18th floor and the only thing I had a problem with was that their windows had no screens!! Okay yes...I know, it's an upscale hotel and I should not expect bars or screens to cover their windows but still!! I opened our window and realized it can be completely opened...and  that there was nothing separating me from the outside...and we were 18 floors up!! Overall, the staff were courteous and we did park in the parking structure across the street! Thanks everyone for that tip!! =)

Bar at the top is pretty comfortable and overlooking Petco... too bad there wasn't a game going on, but t'was a great venue to hang out on a beautiful late afternoon.

Large gas fire pit in the middle for those who get cold easily.  The guy lighting it jokingly reminded us not to pick ups the lava stones... he said a drunk lady picked up one of the lava stones right after it had been turned off at the end of the night... needless to say her hand got BURNED.

Spent my anniversary weekend here and was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the room and level of service.  You must fork out the extra ten bucks or so and get the martini package which is well worth it's extra cost.  Free entrance and no wait to the Altitude Bar was nice considering I saw the line of about 30 people downstairs on my way out.  The only beef I have w/ this place was the fact that the vending machine by my room did not wanna accept my dollar(s) bill.  Other than that I would highly recommend this hotel.

also gaslamp offers a $6.50 special breakfast - great deal.

I had a great stay at this place.  Have stayed here several times and always enjoyed the room.  Restaurant has great breakfast!  My only complaint is that I forgot what room number I was in and even had my key but it was under my friends name and they gave me a very hard time.  I had to go search for the room myself and try in my key to every door on my floor until I found the one that worked!  On top of that it was my birthday so I was a little annoyed but overall nice hotel.

This is a really great hotel. I like the modern decor, and the candy at the front desk :) The view of Petco Park is unbeatable, and the bar at the top of the hotel with a view of the downtown area is great. Polite and helpful concierges. My husband has a bad back, and he said the bed was kind of hard, but it felt fine for me.

Love the lobby and the staff is phenomenal.  Checkin was quick and efficient. The rooftop lounge, Altitude, is a favorite hangout for my friends and I.  The location is also a plus in my book because it avoids the big downtown crowds, but still everything is still within walking distance.

Marriott did a great job renovating this property. The valet and front desk staff were great, making the check-in process quick and easy.

The lobby features modern, trendy decor. I was impressed with the gym located on the rooftop which overlooks Petco Park. It features a handful of cardio machines, free weights and enough machines to get in a full workout.

Our standard room was typical of renovated Marriotts. Nothing special, but tastefully decorated and comfortable.

The location is close to the water and a 10 minute walk to the heart of gaslamp. A bit further than I'd like to be, but this is a quiet property.

Using Priceline I got a great rate, but will look elsewhere if asked to pay the standard rate of $250+ for this property.

Everything was above standards here.  Reliable service, lovely decorations, and beautiful rooms.  There is even a cute bar on top of the roof which I loved.  But I've stayed at other hotels in this area including the Hotel Solomar and the Hard Rock.  Both were much more exciting.  The hotel also lacks the most important feature I look for at a hotel in a sunny destiation:  a pool.

I stayed here for one night on a Saturday during the summer. I booked a standard room, for steep price of $200. After checking-in I went up to my hotel room, where I found two queen beds instead of the one king sized bed I had requested when making my reservation. I called the front desk and the employee told me that there was nothing they could do since all of the rooms were booked and that even though I requested one king sized bed, my request is not guaranteed. A few of my friends checked-in about 30 minutes after me, and they were given a king sized bed as requested. The way the employee handled the situation and spoke to me was quite rude and she did not even try to be sympathetic.
Besides that unfortunate incident, the room was a little above average. The TV was old and outdated. The nice perk about the room was the office nook located in a corner of the room. The hotel lobby was very nice and comfortable. There is a restaurant and bar located next to the lobby. The hotel also has a rooftop bar, which I was not able to visit, but have heard that it's quite nice. The hotel does offer a valet service, at a rather steep price though. I suggest parking in the structure located directly across the street from the hotel entrance, it's a bit cheaper and it's not even that far.

Another solid hotel choice in downtown San Diego. Good staff, clean rooms, pretty much all the essentials you need to have an enjoyable stay. Good location, right near the Gaslamp District and Petco Park. Parking is expensive, of course. But that's no surprise. Nice rooftop bar/club/lounge.

Okay I haven't stayed here but I am blown away by its mere presence. Does anyone remember the Clarion Hotel? Well it has been reborn. I'm not sure how they did it, in fact I think there is magic involved, but it's amazing inside and out. The Clarion was on the level of Howard Johnson's and at one point the only decent hotel in the neighborhood that wasn't on Front Street and that wasn't saying much for at one time cheezy San Diego. . I had many a party in this place....

But times have changed and ballparks are spawning new growth and neo-Jetson style upscale trendy, snazzy hotels like this. Based on the cool vibe of the lobby I would definitely stay here!

Very chic hotel, but even if you aren't at the night club on the 22nd floor, you can still hear it a couple floors down.

Stayed here for a wedding.  I thought the rooms were way above par for hotels of this category (I do a lot of conference travel)-- the decor had a bit of a deco vibe, the bathroom was huge, and I had an amazing view of Petco park (and the water behind it.)

It's super convenient to the convention center, if you're in town for something there-- if you aren't, the gaslamp district is a great spot to stay, and there's a trolley only minutes away to get to other parts of the city.

The lobby had plenty of space to meet up with friends, and the downstairs bar had a great drink selection and a laid-back vibe.  The one downside was the very clubby rooftop bar-- fun while you're up there, but it means the lobby is full of people lined up to get in after 10 pm or so-- and the elevators are filled with clubbers heading home form most of the night after that, which isn't totally ideal.  (However, you can still use 3 of the 4 elevators to get to your room, and you have to have a key to get onto guest floors... so there's that.)

One odd thing happened-- on the day I was to check out, there was no bill under the door like every hotel I've stayed in for the past decade has done.  I asked at the front desk, and they said they usually do that... but it "didn't happen" the night before.  That seemed like a fairly major thing to "not happen," so I am not sure if there are management issues behind the scenes... but overall, I was pleased with my stay.

Great Hotel!  I travel quite a bit, and this hotel is hands down one of my top 3 favorites.   My room over looked Petco park and the bridge that is light up over the harbor.  Great work area in the room, very comfortable beds, and a great bar on the roof!

    Everything else was excellent.

Great location, comfy bed, good service, nice view....this is a great mid-priced hotel situated in the heart of the Gaslamp.  Valet parking is $30 so if you want to save a few bucks, there are 2 huge parking lots that are really close to the hotel.  Overall, I recommend it highly.

But the reason I must write this review is to let everyone know to order room service and get their seasoned french fries!!!!!!  And I was completely sober when I ate this so I know there was none of that "it only tastes good because I was drunk" deal.  Perfectly crisp with just the right amount of seasoning...mmmmmm.....

Very cool hotel. The rooms are a little on the small side but they are really nice.  The bed was nice and comfortable so you can fall asleep pretty easy.  The bathroom in my room was really big and nicely laid out.  I would defiantly stay here again.  The views from the city are beautiful.  You can't go wrong with this hotel.

The restaurant on the first floor is really good too.  I ordered the seafood soup for lunch there and it was so good.  They have some pretty good drink specials too.  The service was outstanding!

I luv this hotel... I got a friends discount and so it was $125 per nite. GOOD PRICE for a very NICE hotel!!!! We were on the 20th flr. The room was very clean!!!! We had a nice view of the water area and Padres Stadium. The bed was sooo damn comfy!!!! it was soft and i think the thread count on the sheets were 800+(i dont know if they have em that high, but it felt that way)!!!! i didnt wanna get out of the bed, i coulda jus stayed in bed all day and nite... i would highly recommend this place!!!! BTW - the only wack part was the parking. They only have valet parking and it cost $30 damn dolla's!!! i was askin if that damn price came with a car wash and an oil change, $hit!!!!! So we parked at the self parking across the street and left it there for the nite and that price ended up bein $22, DAMMNNN!!!!

Place was well kept. I blasted the A/C my whole stay and it was great. (wasn't even hot, i just find it more comfortable) Came to visit this wonderful city for a friends Bachelor party. We stationed here and the rooms where huge and the bathroom was adequate for the husky kids!
But the best thing that i loved about the hotel was the lounge on the roof top. Im sure it's on here i just forgot the name, but what a night i had there. I don't remember much of it because it was that crazy, but it defiantly was the highlight of my trip. Lots of beautiful people and great music. If you are down in SD hit that place up. Get there early cause they do hold a line by the elevator. But if your a guest you have access all night without waiting in line!
Overall the staff where accommodating, parking was a bit pricey but WTH it was a bachelor party, and when we got home every night from partying they didn't kick us out of the lobby or the curb, im guessing they are used to it! But it was coo listening to the bell hops talking about what they have seen around there! Good times. Hopefully 2010 SD trip is in the making!

Stayed at this hotel during new years eve, and I feel it was a bit overpriced considering the size of the rooms and the lack of quiet (easy to hear next door neighbors talking).
However, its a perfect location if you want to hang out downtown, party and drink a lot of alcohol.  its very close to all the bars which means you can easily stumble and find your way back to your room.

I chose this hotel since it was the closest to the start line of the Hot Chocolate 15k run. Was very happy with the front desk staff and the valet staff. I requested a refrigerator and microwave and they brought it up within 5 minutes. This is an awesome hotel!  I stayed here for 2 nights for my company's annual meeting.

The location is fantastic - you can go up onto the rooftop bar and look directly into Petco Park, as well as the rest of San Diego.  You're within walking distance of lots of bars and restaurants, which is always a plus when you're a newbie from out of town.  And the staff here have been fantastic - really friendly and helpful.

The rooms are good sized and clean, the bathrooms are really nice, and there's ample desk space.  One star off for charging for internet - it's $10 for every 24 hour period.  I know it's ridiculously easy to create a free wi-fi network for your guests, and when I'm already paying $250 a night for a hotel room, I expect better than that.

This was a trip gone horribly wrong and when we had to part ways with our designated party we ended up here, we had VIP rewards status and booking last minute, with free points the only question about the type of room they asked was, would you like a city, or ocean view...
They got us checked right in, took us up to the "VIP level" complete with our own lounge. We were also one floor down from the rooftop bar which is super nice when you feel like a smoke and a beer and don't want to head out to a bar

Anyways about the hotel.. beautiful and simple.. i liked this place a lot, its right in the heart of town-down SD which i would have preferred to avoid, but its a nice area all and all, we could look out our window and see the bay (which just happened to have the red bull planes races that weekend) and we were right next to the new ballpark.
It was close to everything which was nice too..
Anyways if you land yourself in the area and need a place to stay, this could be the spot for you..
or not, I don't really know you all that well anyways.

One of the nicest mid-range chain hotels I've stayed at. The hotel is located across the street from Petco Park, right in the middle of the Gaslamp Quarter. The bathroom is stocked with a comfy bath robe and a variety of toiletries, not limited to the standard soap and shampoo bottles. They also have Starbucks coffee, Tazo tea, and complimentary water bottles in room. The bed was complete with fluffy pillows, soft linens and down comforters--not those old, smelly, tacky-looking, thin, linty bed covers you find laying on most hotel beds.

-1 star for having to pay for internet access. Most stylish hotels nowadays come equipped with complimentary internet access. Too bad the Marriott Gaslamp isn't one of them.

I enjoy staying at this Marriott, great location and bar. The lobby is very stylish, me likey mucho. Once I did have issue with over booking but they resolved it quickly. The rooms are always clean and well maintained. The bathrooms are decent in size. Closet space, hangers and drawers, all good. The beds are very comfy with soft (High thread count) sheets which have always been clean and crisp. If you get a room with a balcony and view, bonus! The staff is very helpful. The bar up top has some great local and visiting talent, especially for a weeknight. During the day if you are meeting in the lobby or restaurant you see that this hotel attracts a young active vibe. Being in the Gas Lamp district you have many fine choices for meals and entertainment.

**im only reviewing for the rooftop bar**

Great views and a giant fire pit make for one charming spot to have drinks in the Gaslamp. more importantly, the bartenders here have a mean pour and are amazingly friendly (very very important to a convention attendee who has spent all day on her feet). every single drink i got was magically delish. they were also complimentary because i was hooked up royally. usually this means unsavory well liquor mixed with bleh mixers, not so here - all my vodka tonics titillated my (alcoholic) tastebuds. i met lots of friendly peeps and the bouncer held me back from entering to check my ID. i felt like an 19 year old trying to sneak into a bar - THANK GAWD I STILL GOT IT!!!

the main bar has lounge-y type couches for chilling, and slabs of walls leading you to the bar that have water running down them. if it gets a little chilly, grab a spot next to the fire pit and watch the sun go down. we walked here so i don't know the parking situ. i can't even tell you about the rooms. all this review is good for is strong drinks. and its super close to the convention center. :D

I've stayed here a few times and the price has gone up some since my first visit in 2005.  Service was exceptional; I've had rooms that are nosier than others and given the area, there's no great parking unless you're lucky.  If going during baseball season, it can be a pain to get to (better to vallet). I'd stay again.

Pretty unimpressive for the price. Poor service staff, crappy bar, 10 year old TV's in the rooms and corny decor. Too many other hotels to try in the Gaslamp to do this one again. Can't recommend at all.

We ended up at the Gas Lamp District Marriott Hotel for the weekend of the San Diego Comic-Con and could not have been more pleased.  There is another Marriott closer to the convention center, but our location here offered a bit of relief from the craziness of the convention itself.  The rooms are reasonably sized; we were comfortable with the two full-size beds and roll-away that we had.  It does not have a pool, which is my only real complaint, but the chic rooftop bar is a charming novelty that proved to be a keen place to hang out with friends.  Being baseball fans, my husband and I also enjoyed the view of Petco Park from our room.  ( Obviously the Padres don't have home games during Comic-Con weekend, and you couldn't really watch the game from here, but it's still pretty nifty)  The staff seemed very knowledgeable and were helpful for dining recommendations.  If the weird system for hotel assignments allows us the option next year, this hotel is certainly high on my list.

I wound up purchasing a two night stay at the Gaslamp Marriott as part of an auction lot at a school's fundraising event I was auctioneer for. When I called the manager to redeem our certificate, I explained that we'd like to add two more nights to our stay.

She was extremely kind, upgraded us to a Junior Suite, threw in two days of valet parking, and gave us a steeply discounted rate. We wound up with a corner room with a great view of the ballpark, convention center and bay.

The hotel recently underwent a really beautiful renovation, with lots of great details. We'd indulge Little Q's desire to be chased around the lobby as an excuse to take in some of the finer details. And score more of the candy they have at the front desk.

The staff is extremely friendly. The valet are wonderful, and will have your car waiting for you if you call ahead.

The Marriott is *easy* walking distance of the Gaslamp District, historic ships and convention center. It is also a short drive from the Zoo, Sea World, and Balboa Park. So close to the Zoo that we were able to go to the zoo in the morning, come back for Little Q's nap, and then go back for the rest of the afternoon.

A great place to stay for a San Diego vacation, with wonderful access to all of the touristy things you know you want to do, but just won't admit to in public.

They rooms are pretty basic, but nice. Everything is up to date. I've always liked the overall youthful feel to the hotel. Very hip. The rooftop bar/lounge is a must see. Great place to have drinks and hang out.

I have also stayed at the Marriott Marina, Omni and Hyatt.  This place is my favorite.  I love smaller hotels where they actually remember you and you don't have to wait for an elevator to come down 40 floors.

The beds here are super comfortable with ultra soft sheets.  There is always  a great view from your room.  The concierge floor has a wonderful room for breakfast and snacks, along with a plasma tv and a place to print out you're boarding passes.

If you don't want to leave the hotel, there is a really nice restaurant and bar on ground level.  There is also a beautiful rooftop bar with a fire pit and late night dj overlooking Petco Park and the coronado bridge.

The only negatives are no free wi-fi and the rooms next to elevator are not quiet, even if the bellman tries to convince you they are!

This place rocks. Walk right on up to checkup and you'll wonder if there's going to be a tray of cocaine in your room, judging by the trippy lighting behind the front desk.

My wife and I stayed here on the 21st floor for a few nights in San Diego. It was an easy walk into the Gaslamp quarter for a plethora of amazing looking restaurants and entertainment and the like. We took a cab to both Sea World and the SD Zoo; both were reasonably priced.

Altitude was amazing. It was one floor above us, so we could hear the faint "thump-chh-thump" of hawt dance action up there. We spent an evening up top drinking mojitos and looking around the city. This place would be stellar to go see a baseball game and get drunk, too.

High five, Mariott. Or fist pound .. or whatever you guys do in southern California?

My girlfriend and I stayed here mid week for business. The gal at the check in desk was friendly and professional. Our room was clean, bright, and had modern decor. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. The overall presentation of the hotel was clean and friendly. The morning of our check out we went for a run - on our way back in the valets offered us bottled water as we returned, I thought that was a nice touch. Also the bar on the rooftop offers excellent nighttime views of the city. A bit pricey for drinks but that is expected as you're paying for the atmosphere. I would definitely stay here again if the opportunity presented itself. A tip: you can park in the parking garage across the street for less than the valet cost. I believe our total ended being $20 for a full 24 hour period.

It's unfortunate that the only thing that turned this woman into a bridezilla was the service at the front desk...We had communicated with several hotel representatives about delivering welcome baskets to our out of town guests staying in the hotel.  I had to constantly check in at the front task, sometimes 3-4 times a day to be sure our guests received them.  At the end of our stay, I personally ended up delivering four welcome baskets myself and by then, some had already checked out.  No one offered any sort of apology or explanation as to why they did not receive them.  Horrible customer service on that end!

As far as the rooms, our suite for our the duration of the wedding was decent.  Service was great when we needed carts to transport our belongings.  The valet attendants were extremely accommodating, addressing us by name, congratulating us each time we saw them, and being flexible with leaving our car in the front.  Above and beyond what was expected!

Location you can't beat...and the view from the roof top bar was the perfect way to entertain our wedding guests!

If ever I'm in the San Diego area, I'd definitely come back to the Marriott.

Maybe it has something to do with their excellent customer service - we arrived 5 hours before the official check-in time but they had a room ready for us. Maybe it has something to do with the spacious and clean rooms with spectacular views - ours looked into Petco Park. Maybe it has something to do with the prime location - we were a 2-minute walk from the park gates and surrounded by tons of restaurants and bars. Maybe it has something to do with the little perks they provide - free coffee and tea in the lobby every morning and free bottled water in the room.

Or maybe it has everything to do with the 3 massive candy bowls at the front desk and their willingness to overlook me stuffing my pockets full of salt water taffy.

i only stayed here for a night so that my friends and i didnt have to make the long drive to the OC at 2am in the morning after a night of partying haha...but i thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. thanks to a friend's employee rate, we stayed here super cheap esp for a saturday on 4th of july weekend...so i def cannot complain about price.

the hotel is kind of hidden in gaslamp so when the taxi dropped me off, i didnt even know we were at the hotel. it's right next to petco park and the omni hotel. great location in the heart of gaslamp...we walked a good 6-7 blocks to get to our destination but on a nice summer evening, it wasnt bad at all. ladies, just remember to wear flats in case you're going to be walking everywhere ;)

as for the room itself, it was really nice and spacious! bathroom was nice and big with plenty of ammenities including a coffee maker, hairdryer, and plenty of soap/shampoo and towels. in addition to the 2 double beds, we also fit an aerobed comfortably in the room and overall crammed 7 people without an issue. the view of our room was awesome too! we had a view of petco park...granted we couldnt see the whole field but it still would have been cool to sneak a peek if the padres were in town. valet parking for the hotel is $30 overnight which is pretty standard for the gaslamp area...but the front desk and housekeeping staff were super nice, fast, and efficient. i'd definitely come back here...maybe next time i'll check out the roof top bar, Altitudes which seemed pretty cool.

Stayed here. for a quick weekend vacation from LA and loved it.
The Room:  Clean, comfortable and quiet.  No weird air conditioner sounds or loud plumbing.  Amazing view from the 17th floor gave me a view of Petco and out towards Coronado.  I could not have been happier/
The Staff:  Very friendly and very helpful.  Valets were quick and left the car out front two seperate times when I needed to just run upstairs to grab something.
Amenities:  I've always been a fan of the rooftop Altitude Bar before I ever stayed here, but its probably one of the best reasons to stay here.  Having ready access to this place is such a great convenience, especially on game days when you can see and hear the stadium.  Unfortunately on the weekday, the restaurant downstairs, Soleil at K, stops breakfast at 10:30.
Overall:  A great experience, I'll definitely come back next time I go downtown.

This hotel was awesome.  Marriott's can be hit and miss, but this one was top notch.  The front desk staff was very helpful, though I did have problems with nobody picking up the phone when calling down from my room.  The front desk had a bunch of rad candy to steal, so our stay was Pixy Stix'ed up.  I got lucky, too, because I was able to book this hotel for around $100 on priceline.com .  Only complaint was the $30/night for valet when I figured out after that I could have parked in the same lot they used for $16/24 hours.  Oh well.

Stayed here for one night for a girls' night out. We stayed in a regular room with 2 queen bed -- which were so comfortable. If there is one thing that I love Marriott for, it's their beds! I have no complaints about the room. It was clean, we had a beautiful view of the water and could see right into Petco Baseball Stadium(which is right next door). The staff was very pleasant and helpful.

    Other pluses:
    - Bar & Lounge on the roof of the hotel -- very close for a night out on the town.
    - Close to bars and resturants located in Gaslamp Quarter

Some downfalls for staying at this hotel:
    - No pool on site, but are allowed access to pool at Marriott down the street (about 5-7 minute walk).
    - No self parking. Only valet provided by the hotel. There is a parking structure across the street which is expensive and crowded when there is a baseball game.

All in all, it's a nice hotel, but pricey. If you are willing to shell out the money for a nice location in the Gaslamp Quarter and clean and very comfortable rooms, then it's all worth it.

I got this hotel on priceline for $80.  With tax and other fees we paid $107 total.  Not a bad deal.  The location was pretty fantastic.  We came down to SD for a wedding and truly enjoyed it.

Ok, here's the plus side of the hotel:
    1. Location
    2. Cleanliness
    3. The view--Amazing!!
    4. Our Priceline price.

    The negative to the hotel:
    1. Uncomfortable bed.  The pillow was thin, it was as if I didn't have a pillow.
    2. The Latitude nightclub was literally right above our room.  We were on the 21st floor.  Latitude is on the 22nd.  I could hear people talking and the thumping of the music.
    3.  Toilet flushing--heard our neighbor's toilet flushed every single time.

Needless to say.  I really didn't have a good night sleep.

This hotel was a pleasant surprise.  Booked the room on Hotwire for $100/night, which is obviously an awesome deal.  So at that price, I wasn't expecting much, but the Marriott completely exceeded my expectations.

Staff-- So helpful.  Check-in was a breeze and everyone was super friendly.  I realized I forgot toothpaste and a razor, so I called the front desk to have housekeeping bring some up.  Not only did they bring toothpaste and a razor, but they brought a toothbrush and shaving cream... and in a flash.

Room and amenities-- The room was really cute.  We were on the 14th floor and not overlooking the ball park or anything noteworthy, but the room was still nice.  All the toiletries were a nice edition.  I actually would wash my hair with the shampoo, etc.

Altitude Lounge/Bar-- So cool.  My boyfriend and I went up there late afternoon to watch the sunset.  The view is simply amazing.  So relaxing, and it would be awesome if there was a ballgame going on.  We also went up there late night, and it was very much what you would expect.  Club-ish, girls in dresses, loud music, etc.  Very fun vibe.  Plus, as a hotel guest, bypass the line downstairs!

Location-- The BEST.  We took the train down to SD from Irvine, so we were without a car.  Everything, and I mean everything, is within walking distance from this Marriott.  It was the best $100/night I'd ever spent just due to the location.

Downside-- The only downside is that there is no pool.  Luckily, it wasn't the warmest weekend when we were there, but it would be nice to lay out during the summer months.

Overall, I HIGHLY recommend staying here.  I will definitely stay here again when we are back in the Gaslamp Quarter!

I was hoping for so much more.  The first room they gave me was really sad (I think of it as the priceline room, but we all know there's no such thing), the internet connectivity is weird (gotta re-up every day but the billing is automatic), and you need a room card to make the elevator work but when I check in my hands are already full.  And Yelp and Priceline both give it 4.5 stars?  I guess I didn't have much luck.

There's good news.  If you're here for a Padres game, you can't get closer.  And it's generally quiet because the trolley isn't nearby, making noise all the time.  Of course, the trolley is the mass transit system so maybe you want it to be closer than it is.  And Colleen at the front best was really good at fixing my room problem.  My new room had the same view as the picture.  Hope I got her name right... :)

I understand the roof bar is really cool, but the only time I thought about it was at night, when one of the 4 elevators was reserved for people going to the roof bar.  There was always a line to go up there, and the rest of the hotel really needs all four elevators.

To sum it up, go if you're there for a Padres game and consider it if you're going to the convention center.  Don't go if you're in town on a business trip or you like connectivity.  And don't accept a bad room.  They can do better.  Next time, I'm going to the US Grant.

I stayed here for Halloween. My friends and I had 5 rooms or so. We requested to be near each other and we were, so that was a plus.
Check in was smooth and efficient. Our room was clean. The beds are amazing- which is usual for a Marriott. The main reason we wanted to stay there, was to have a room key that would access Altitude, the rooftop bar. What a great idea! All night we were up and down. No line at all.... back to the room for a shot....up to Altitude for a little party....etc. So much fun.

The next morning we had room service for breakfast. YUMMMM. I do love this hotel. I was opening staff here in '04 and I will always hold a place in my heart for the Gaslamp Marriott and Altitude Sky bar.

The only negative is we requested 2 robes and tooth paste to the room and it never came. Oh well, Gaslamp Marriott. I forgive you.

I almost didn't stay here because it looks so crappy on the outside, and the prices seemed high.  But it is across the street from the Padres stadium, across the street from my the couple I was visiting's condo, and I wouldn't have to use my car once.

So I searched the web for promo codes and found a good one and got my room for under 200 which was not bad for the area.

I often park at the garage across the street because my brother's old apartment was on auto-break-in-and-cross-the-border street.  So I parked there.  It cost me 20 bucks for 24 hours, and the hotel valet is 30 bucks, a bit of savings, but not worth it if you have a lot of baggage, and no young brother to carry it for you.

The lobby is very nice.  And they have candy on the front desk.  Big bowls of Hershey kisses, and salt water taffy.  It's just candy, but it was very welcoming.

Then my room was great!  I paid for a city view, and they gave my a bay view - no complaints from me.  My beds had soft white sheets, down pillows, down comforters and white linen duvet covers.  It looked so damn clean that I didn't get any of my usual hotel heebeejeebees about who had done what on that bedspread before me.  The rooms are nicely remodeled.  Marble floors and counters in the bathroom.  Good water pressure in the shower.  Gilchrest & Soames soaps and stuff.

So many movies to choose from on tv that I hardly wanted to leave my room.  My room smelled good and it looked good.  I even slept well which never happens in a hotel.

I liked that there were a lot of young people around.  It seems to be popular on the weekend for people interested in partying in the Gaslamp District.  For all the partying people around making the place seem both lively and safe, there was no noise once I got inside my room.  I don't know how they did that.  I mean when I saw young couples wandering around with plastic cups of mystery beverage and loud voices, I was just dreading a night of loud carousing.  But there was no noise at all.

On top of the building is the Altitude bar.  It has a view of Petco park and the bay that is great.  It has loud music, fire pits, full bar, not much seating. It was ok if you like those kind of bars where you can't really talk or sit.

In the morning, I was googling Starbucks trying to find a coffee house close enough to not have to put on proper shoes.  I finally gave up and went downstairs to buy toothpaste (never buy toothpaste in a gift shope - eeek the prices), where I noticed that in the lobby a table is setup offering serve yourself free Starbucks coffee and tea.  So I got both just barely as the hostess was putting everything away as soon as I took my hand off of it.  Seems you have to get there before 9:00 am.  It sure as hell beat spending 14 bucks on room service.

Let me start off by saying that I did a lot of yelping before picking a nice hotel to stay in during my weekend in San Diego, I decided on the Gas Lamp Marriott.

Upon check in I asked the staff if they received a package I sent to myself there, they checked their computer system and told me they did in fact receive a package and would be bring it up to my room. This was at approximately 12pm. I left for the day to enjoy San Diego. I return to my room at 6pm, no package in the room. I call down to see where my package is. The bell man says he'll try to find it and call me back. The package is not located.

The package contained wine from my personal collection. I intended on taking the wine with me to dinner that evening, reservations at 730pm.

Hotel manager puts me in contact with the manager of restaurant located on the property. I explain to him the package situation and the contents. This guy goes above and beyond and finds almost the same wine that was in my package for me to have at dinner. We agree that if and when my package turns up I will return the wine to him to make amends for the bottles he provided, even trade.

Imagine my mood after all this on my way to dinner. Needless to say I tried to enjoy the rest of my night.

Next morning I get practically interrogated by another hotel manager regarding the missing package, asking for receipts associated to the cost of my wine that was in the package. I explain I don't have receipts because they came from my private collection, I do provide descriptions of each bottle.

We leave for breakfast and upon our return we are told that we must leave the property, no ifs ands or buts. No explanation.

Turns out the mysterious package was delivered to my room the previous day. It was found in an armoire in the room. I assume the Marriott thought I was trying to defraud them in some way, despite the fact that I had an agreement that if the package did turn up I would compensate them with my wine. In addition to kicking me out, they kick out my friends. I ask why they are being asking to leave, response, "Because they're your friends."

Keep in mind when I called for the package the second time no one ever told me that it was delivered.

We get put out on the street on a Saturday afternoon with no other reservations. Ever try to find a hotel on Saturday afternoon downtown San Diego with no reservation??

This incident practically ruined our weekend. We finally found rooms at another property.

Overall an extreme failure in hospitality, customer service, and courtesy. I will never spend another one of my red cents in a Marriott.

    Anyone know a good lawyer?

We got a room that is listed as $450 (because of the bayside view) for a priceline bid of $80. The place is nicely decorated and the rooms are comfortable. My bed was so comfy and my pillows so fluffy that I just wanted to stay in rather then going out and sight seeing. The staff was very nice and professional.

There were a couple of blips in an otherwise great experience. We were stuck in an elevator on the north tower but  they were quick to respond once we called for help. I was a bit nausiated that they have FOX news playing on the elevator but politics aside it was okay. I accidently ordered a movie and was charged $17 for a movie I've already seen and NO it was not a Porno. Finally, the parking was $35, which is pribably reasonable given that the convention center is so close and no real street parking but I thought it was still a bit high. Then this morning the iron leaked but once I called down it was a brief wait before a new one was delivered.

In all it was a wonderful visit, I wish I were napping in that comfortable bed right now.

Great location and very hip accomodations!  The hotel sits blocks away from the heart of the gaslamp district--no tipsy taxi needed when staying here.  You simply have to drag your lubricated butt and walk the whoppin' two blocks or so.  I was a bit disappointed with the fitness center.  I expected more choices of machines.  The breakfast buffet was satisfying especially the freshly squeezed oj, carafe of strongly brewed coffee and, of course, the food selection--eggs, chicken & apple gourmet sausage, bacon, fresh fruits and on and on...

I highly recommend you stay here on your next visit to beautiful San Diego!

This shall be the first review of the gaslamp Marriott though I've frequented this property several times. First impression from the outside is it's in the shit of the gaslamp. You can't get much closer, not to mention there's a bar/club on the roof which isn't no joke. There's serious parties goin down. No pun intended.

It's 12am when I finally get to the hotel  and I'm greeted by a huge line at the elevators for altitude, which is the name of the club. The 2 night audit agents were busy doing their reports when I gave them my name to check in. The one whom I was directing most of my conversation looked at me bewildered. I'd get into It more but I'd just be venting m frustration. To say the least , the 20 minute check in process was quite annoying.

This is a phenominal hotel.  Located one block away from 5th Street, the heart of San Diego's Gaslamp quarter, this hotel is probably my favorite place to stay in San Diego.  The hotel itself is relatively new, and pretty much everything related to the decor is nicely done.  The lobby has the artfully done interesting light colors that are currently trendy in SD hotels, hallways have a rich feel, and the rooms detailed elegantly.  Even the ice tray is nice:  no more aging plastic receptacle, instead you're offered a brushed metal container on a shiny metal tray with two glasses and a corkscrew.

The lobby has a nice restaurant, Soleil at K, which serves great food and is relatively empty only because of that natural reluctance to dine at a hotel restaurant when you're not staying at the hotel.  The food is very tasty (I recommend the flatbreads), and the bar has a long happy hour (until 8 p.m.) which you can use to snap up a very nice dinner at half off.

The roof holds the crowning jewel, Altitude, their rooftop bar which boats spectacular views and tasty drinks.  Seriously, the view is gorgeous and very impressive, especially at night.  I can't think why every high rise hotel doesn't do the same thing with their roof.

You get what you pay for and at this hotel, its worth it!  Most importantly the rooms are clean.  The hotel has a friendly staff, nice rooftop lounge, and a decent restaurant downstairs.

If you don't want to pay the price for valet, the parking structure across the street is half the price at $17 for a full day.  No in/out parking at either the hotel or the parking structure though.

In-Short:  Best bed i've slept in.  Rooftop bar with a great view.  Workout room w/personal TVs.  ONLY valet parking.  Simple in-room safe.  Small concierge lounge.  WiFi for a fee, unless a Marriott Gold member and above (I believe).

Details:  Stayed here on a business trip.  Overall, a very good hotel with slight nuances.  If I was on vacation or business I would definitely stay here.  Great views of the San Diego Padres stadium, with a blocked view of the sea due to the Omni hotel.  The room itself was nice, very contemporary.  The bed was the best bed i've slept in, firm and soft, and the sheets felt like silk.  What was kind of weird was how the TV was set into the entertainment center and it's a little below eye level when lying in bed.  The bathroom was clean, well decorated, nice soaps and lotion, and a shoe cloth (nice touch!).  The workout room (although I didn't work out that day) was pretty spacious with a good selection of treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, and some machines.  The personal TVs for the cardio machines were nice as they were attached to the wall and not the machines.  The rooftop bar was unique: on the top floor of the hotel with a great view of the Padres; great enough to catch a game if they're playing.  The bar also has an ATM.  The hotel price is probably on the high side, but I can't tell because I had a special corp/gov rate.

To those with Marriott Gold and above status: the concierge lounge was good.  It has a great view looking out into the sea/Omni hotel and the Padres stadium.  There is a popcorn cart (not common in other concierge lounges) a TV, complimentary computer, and a nice assortment for breakfast and desserts; though there isn't as much of a selection of food due to the small size.

Random Note: The workout room is on the top floor; same as the rooftop bar.  You actually have to walk through the bar area to get into the workout room, where the only thing separating the bar and workout room is frosted glass.

Marriott Gaslamp is a convient hotel if you're planning on playing in the Gaslamp/downtown area.  The hotel is located right next to Petco Park and conviently our room had the view of the park.  The boyfriend and I checked in on a Friday mid-afternoon and to our surprise, no wait.  The front desk was very quick in getting us to our rooms.  They also have bowls of different candies like salt water taffy and pixie sticks for their guests.  The valvet was really friendly and offered assistance for directions and main point of attractions everytime we got our car.

As mentioned previously, our room view was of Petco Park but too bad no home game.  The T.V. was little small compared to other hotels but everything was clean overall.  My only complaint was the very thin thin walls in this hotel.  Especially in the middle of the night and other times of the day that you're actually in your room, you can hear other room's toilet flushing.  It was a little disturbing and odd at the same time.  So just imagine if you can hear flushing noises, what other noises you can hear...

We stayed here for a wedding, but there were several Padres games going on.

    - They were overbooked and offered us rooms at another Marriott for free - but the location was far away from downtown, where we needed to be.

    - Late night, after the game, our floor turned into a rave.  Or, it at least sounded that way.  The door was paper thin and it was very, VERY loud.  Calls to the front desk did not stop the noise from fellow guests who were having a good time.  It sounded like there were a lot of bachelor / bachelorette parties going on.

    - The room was fine - we had a great view of the ball park and the windows opened.

    - The location was great, central to the Gaslamp district.

    - The staff was very helpful - the valet and concierge did a great job.

Usually, all I look for in a hotel is CDQ - Clean Dark and Quiet.  We got C & D - no quiet.

Ya...this is place is nice...I definitely enjoyed this brand new hotel..
The staff was very friendly. I loved the complimentary breakfast on the 2nd floor. But show up on time because they take it all away at 10AM sharp.

Being in Gaslamp District was awesome. Walking all around the place and taking those taxi-bikes for rides was great. Valet parking was only $32 on the bright side? That was about the only downside. But id definitely stay here again.

Negatives: No pool & $34 parking per 24 hours. Otherwise, I would have given 5 stars.
Positives: Everything about this place.  No detail had been left undone.
Every single staff member was great.  Valet was super fast even when  we didn't call ahead.
We had an amazing view of the baseball field & the bay.
    The room was spotless.
If you are going to be in the downtown area this is the place to stay, especially for a Padres game. We could see most of the field from our room.

I stayed here on the night of a Padres game, so it was super hard to find parking. The hotel was valet only, and it was $32 a night. Unfortunaely everywhere else was full, so we eneded up having to valet.....at the wrong hotel. Why are there two Marriot's on the same street?
Anyways, the room was surprisingly big, and the view of Petco Park was AMAZING! I can't really say much else because I didn't end up staying in the room. But I did appreciate the complimentary water bottles and the starbucks coffee.

After staying at a very poor & dirty hotel when I visited San Diego before (friends choice) I could not have been more satisfied with my own choice. Would stay here again

Stayed here for a romantic Valentines weekend with my boy and had an amazing time. Although the parking is pretty expensive, we were so close to everything we wanted to do in downtown that we never needed to drive.

The staff and service are outstanding, our room was beautiful and looked out over petco park and the san diego marina. I was also very pleased with the fact that all hotel guests get v.i.p admission to the very swanky rooftop bar.

    Me likes.

    The location is 4/5 star
The roof top bar is 5 star

The $32 parking fee per day is crazy high

They charge $10/day to play music on the TV and this is cheezy for a hotel of this stature

The radio in the room has terrible reception.

The breakfast cafe is ok, but just outside around the corner is Broken Yoke and their breakfasts are half the price and much better.

Awesome hotel. Luxurious accommodations in a prime location of San Diego. Walking distance to a lot of cool bars & eateries.

My wife & I stayed here for a wedding we attended. I had no idea it was right next to PetCo Park. It just so happened we arrived in the area right when a Padres game was about to start. This made getting to the hotel a nightmare.

The wedding was about to begin at 6:30pm. Once we got to the hotel, it was 5:30pm, and we were rushing to get to our room to change clothes and catch a cab to the ceremony.

We walked into the beautiful lobby and up to the front desk (which does has large bowls of free candy). We tell the girl at the front desk we're here to check in, and she says our rooms aren't ready. A little annoying since our check-in time was around 3pm and we arrived at 5:30pm. After explaining that we needed a room to shower & change clothes in, the girl suggested we use the stalls in the bathroom. My wife nearly blew her top. Fortunately, one of the other wedding guests was already in their room so they let us change in theirs.

When we finally did get into our room, I was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, the bed was comfy and there were plenty of pillows. The bathroom was VERY posh. I loved the large sliding wood door. Everything was very modern. Since we were on the 14th floor, the view was spectacular.

A little pricey, but such are most good things in life. The check-in fiasco is what compels me to knock it down from a 5-star to a 4-star. A place this nice and this expensive should never have you waiting to occupy your room after check-in. At the very least, they should've tried to make it right (reduce the room charge or cover our valet fee).

Despite this, I would still consider staying here again. A hotel this nice deserves another shot. Plus, I'm a sucker for free candy.

Great Marriott location in the Gaslamp.  Be careful when making your reservations, there are at least 2 other Marriott locations within a few blocks.  This one is right next to Petco and has the Altitude bar on the roof.  Valet is spendy so grab a spot at the parking garage across the street.  Nice clean facilities and perfect launching pad for ball games or nights out in the Gaslamp.  Very easy stumbling distance to everything your liver can handle.

I feel like I won the Comic-Con hotel lottery by ending up at this place. I'd stayed at this hotel several times before when I'd go down for SDCC, even way back when it was the Clarion.

It's cheaper than the Marriott that adjoins the convention center, but also, I like the rooms better. They seem bigger, and they have bathtubs rather than just a shower. Hey, I like to soak and read sometimes.

But back to this particular visit. Despite being one of their busiest weeks for sure, they allowed me to check in a few hours early. I also was able to change my room to have two beds - it was an extra $20 but I'm okay with that, though I wish, since I said I was getting a room for two in the first place, that the charge didn't happen. Oh well. Front desk staff, concierge, and valet were all very nice.

I had one day where I had the Do Not Disturb sign on all morning, and was missed for housekeeping. I ran into the housekeeper in the hallway around 4 or 5PM and she still came in and did it! I really also appreciated that. Just seemed the extra mile I see at this hotel often.

Why only four stars? $35 a day for parking is steep, even though I understand that's probably what everyone is doing, it's still gouging the car-driving visitor. Internet is $10 a day but if you have AT&T at home, chances are you can log in with your home login for free. Additionally, the people in the elevators going up to Latitude are LOUD... fortunately, my room was nowhere near the elevators.

The location is perfect - close to Gaslamp, close to the convention center, close to the walking bridge, and close to restaurants. If only Comic-Con rooms were easier to come by at a good price - I'd gladly make this my first choice any year.

Great hotel, great location, great everything! We stood here saturday night for my husband's birthday and spent it upstairs at Altitude, which is breathtaking, I loved it! Check in was good, only downside is that you can not use a debit card, and the room was decent, we had a city view. Valet parking is $36 for the whole day which i thought was a little ridiculous, especially since we're staying there. But the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. I will definitely stay here again!

    Appalling customer service.

My friends had a room here last night which our group of eight people briefly visited when Altitude closed down. We were in there for less than ten minutes, not playing music, just talking, when one of the Marriott's "customer service" representatives knocks on the door and is very rude and accusatory right off the bat.

He is power-tripping off of the only shred of authority he's ever had over anyone and steps into the room, holding the door open saying he won't leave until all but the two registered guests leave. He said this room had had multiple complaints (in ten minutes huh) and he would call the police if we didn't cooperate.

If you pay $200+/night for a room at the Marriott downtown you expect a certain level of customer service. How about instead of marching up to the room and starting off with attitude you ask nicely once to keep it down? How about a smile instead of power-tripping smugness? This guy (and the rest of the tattooed Pacific Beach overflow bouncers) had zero understanding of customer service. Marriott should be ashamed and clean their team up immediately if they want their name to be worth anything.

we stayed here three magical nights over this past labor day holiday. The location is perfect. It's across from petco, nice rooftop bar and conveniently located in the gaslamp area(dining & nightlife). I also happen to love Marriott's consistency.  The staff was friendly and helpful and when you check in at the front desk they have salt water taffy and tootsie rolls waiting for you, how great is that?

The actual room is basic but clean and plenty of towels and nice water pressure. The bed was comfy enough for us when it came time to get some sleep after running around in San Diego.  The valet parking is on the expensive side however the range of 25 to 35 per day seems to be the norm for gaslamp/downtown area.   Overall the general vibe and customer service of the hotel helped to make our three day vacation- a great one.

It was very nice of them to renovate their lobby with high-tech purple lights and minimalistic furniture.  Unfortunately their rooms are still stuck in the early 90s, with uncomfortable furniture, gaudy carpeting, and a 30-inch CRT television which obfuscates 90% of the screen with static.  But that's okay because the TV is housed in some medieval furniture stand which places it roughly six inches off the floor, making it impossible to view from the bed.

Oh wait, but they offer free salt water taffy to you when checking in.  I almost forgot that crucial fact.  If you base your hotel decisions on the availability of taffy at the front desk, you can't go wrong with this place.

5 of my girlfriends & I came here for my 22nd birthday and boyyyy, were we highly pleased. They earned 4 stars in Yelp book.

The location is GREAT. Right across the street from Petco Park and walking distance from many stores/eats/bars (i.e. Subway, Broken Yolk, CVS) downtown.

The room was well furnished, modern and spacious. The bathroom is a key essential to females when getting ready, especially when you have 4 girlfriends trying to get ready for a night on the town. The fact that the closet doors had full length mirrors were very helpful to us. And the view of Petco Park at our windows was beyond awesome.

Altitude Sky Bar (the roof top bar they have upstairs) is extremely convenient. My girlfriends & I started our night up there. The crowd was mixed but more so had an older scene due to how classy the place is. The drinks were pretty stiff, but thats good because they were pretty pricey as well.

Last but not least, their staff was extremely helpful and all very attractive! It seemed as if every worker there was young and hot. If it wasn't for the cute valet attendants, I don't think my girlfriends & I would've paid $30 something a night to park there. The front desk guy over heard me telling my friends I was hungover while packing and forgot to pack a toothbrush. Later in the day he came up to our room with 2 travel toothbrushes along with toothpaste. NOW THAT'S EXCELLENT SERVICE FOR YOU!

The only reason I wouldn't give them 5 stars is because they don't have a pool at this location! Its pretty embarrassing when you have4 females in bathing suits asking concierge where the pool is. #FAIL

We had been looking forward to our stay here for some time and we were extremely happy with the location of the Hotel and it's proximity to everything in the Gas Lamp. We had a wonderful time walking the area around the hotel and touring around Petco Park.

Our only complaint was that there was an extremely loud party in the room next door to us that required a call down to the front desk. I will say that soon after the call the party was broken up but having to call was not a good thing.

The bed was very comfortable and the room was nice although a bit small and we also got the wrong side of the hotel from a view stand point. i think if we come here again I would specifically ask for the west facing room.

The other two points to make is that the roof top bar seemed like it was a great place for a party or a drink but way to loud and crowded for a romantic viewing of the city.

Also you should completely bypass the lobby restaurant for breakfast. The food was below par even for a buffet and the our server took forever to come to our table even though the restaurant was practically empty and she showed up in a dirty uniform and apron. It literally looked like she had been wearing the same clothes for days.

This could have been a 4 star stay if not for a few details that turned into a meh experience.

The location was great, right next door to petco park (could watch the game from my window) a short walk to all the restaurants and bars in the gaslamp. The staff was friendly and helpful, gave us ideas as to where to have some drinks and dinner, double checked the cab to make sure I didn't forget anything when I stumbled out of it.  As far as the cost... it's going to cost around the same at any other hotel in the gaslamp and the service here was excellent... and it's hard to beat the location. I would definitely stay here again.

Excellent location; only 5 min walk to convention center and 5th Ave, which has a restaurant and/or bar for every taste.  Check-in was quick, though I strongly recommend that you mention your anticipated arrival time in your reservation, as it does help in making sure your room is ready (mine was, colleague's was not).  Room 2100 is large and spacious, with great views of Petco Park.  Only downside is some residual noise from the rooftop bar upstairs (not bad though) and the 'Associates Only' room next door (lots of bangs and slammed doors every hour of the day).  Concierge lounge is maybe 15 ft away, though food offerings and seating at breakfast are a bit sparse (scrambled eggs, bacon, pastries, toast, yogurt and fruit).  Even the food from room service wasn't bad!  All in all, I had a pleasant stay at Marriott Gaslamp!

Stayed here on a Friday and Saturday evening on vacation in San Diego with my husband. Overall a pleasant stay, but a few suggestions.

    - Beautiful building, love the history and architecture
    - Overall the room was clean (and my standards for this are very high)
    - Shower was really great, good water pressure and temp
    - Great location, walkable to Gaslamp and easy drive to Zoo and Airport.
    - When waiting in lobby, staff came by to ask if we needed anything.

    Needs Improvement:
    - Building entrance/Valet isn't on Broadway Street, but on the side street. This made it very difficult to find late at night in a new city.
    - Phone line was busy over the course of 20 mins when trying to call for better directions.
    - Upon check-in as a Silver Elite member with preferences stated on my profile (high floor, away from elevator) was placed in a room on the 5th floor next to elevator and ice machine. When I called down to ask about a switch, was told that I checked in too late and so my prefs couldn't be accommodated. As an Elite member, isn't my reservation (including prefs) guaranteed? Is it not customary for guests from the East Coast to arrive later at night after a flight?
    - Room also had a very poor view of the A/C unit, which is VERY loud.
    - Hair found on shower wall. ick. but that was the only cleanliness complaint
    - Towel hooks were above the toilet. Poor design.
    - Parking in San Diego is a major pain. Waited 20+ mins at check-out time for vehicle (but the valet who brought it was exceptional, loading bags and providing directions/suggestions for lunch. Kudos to him!)

So some customer service and some design issues, but overall pleasant and would choose to stay in this location again.

i love this hotel! it is right in the middle of all the gaslamp madness! altitude is just an elevator ride up...and the ballpark is across the street.  our room had a gorgeous view of coronado and petco park. love it!
the lobby is huge and beautiful.  with 3 bowls of different candy...i love the salt water taffy...the desk clerk's even helped me select my handful's of candy each time we walked by the front desk.  i didnt' care for the girl who checked me in (she was a bit of a snob and talked down to us...) but who cares...she's still the one working and i'm the one enjoying my stay at the hotel...so in the end...who cares if she was rude =)
we both forgot our toothbrushes and paste...the hotel gladly sent us complimentary products and even sent extra shampoo's etc...

the windows open up...that is a huge plus for me...i cant stand stuffy rooms...my friend and i cranked the heat and opened the windows (yes we are sooo bad!) so when we came back in from the freezing outside...we were toasted and toasty warm.

this will be our spot for all future downtown party nights!

Pretty hotel, good service.  The taffy candy at the front desk is so yummy.

Downside: Purchased a small bottle of nyquil from the convenience market next to the front desk that was grossly overpriced (11.95)
Beds were supposed to be queens but were barely doubles.

Other than that the room was stylish, the view was good aside from the huge Omni Hotel blocking half of it but the view of Petco Park is great.  The skylounge is fun.  The restaurant is good, breakfast buffet is really good!

We had a room near the pool, kind of away from the main building.  Every time we went out the door to get to our room, there were a bunch of poeple smoking cigarettes & cigars.  Our room was nice, but we heard boom boom boom music from 11;00 till 2 AM.  I should have asked to be moved, but I thought the sound was coming from the gaslamp district.  When we checked out, the valet said our room was adjacent to a Spanish night club, and that was where the sound originated from.  I emailed a complaint, & wasn'r satisfied with the reply... Won't be staying there again........

This is a great hotel.  The best part is the roof.  But I'll get to that in a minute.

We stayed here on a Sunday night, so the rate was reasonable.  It was summer, so we still paid a good sum.  The hotel has a modern lobby feel.  Not huge, but then again who needs a large lobby?

We were going to valet our car, but found out how much it was.  It was really expensive.  I cannot recall the price, but know it seemed excessive.  So here is a hint: you can park in the garage across the street for A LOT less.  This is the parking garage that is just west of Petco Park and south of the Marriott.  I think it's a regular City of San Diego owned parking garage.  You can park overnight.  Looking inside the garage, many people have done the same thing.  The garage is well lit and secure looking, so we didn't have any concerns parking our car there.

Our room was an upper floor looking towards the San Diego Bay and Coronado Island.  Our room also have a view into Petco Park.  A couple of floors higher, we could have watched a Padres game from our room.

So the best part is the roof top bar.  I have traveled to many other large cities with highrises and have never been to a roof top bar like this.  It is completely open with a bar in the center and a large natrual-gas fed firepit in the middle.  The edge of the roof top bar had stools and tables where you could sit and see the skyline.  The view is 270 degrees.  By the time we got up there it was already later in the evening.  I can only image what the sunset looks like from up there.  So, when you stay here, at least go up to the rooftop bar.  You don't even have to order anything.  We didn't.

Even if you are not staying at this Marriott, head upstairs to the roof top bar.  By far the best part of this hotel.  Also to mention, this hotel has no pool.  I imagine it was replaced with the roof top bar.  A good move.

This hotel is a standard-issue Marriott. Decent service. There was a plumbing problem whereby the pipes made a gurgling sound, even after they switched my room (they said my original room needed plumbing work). Don't stay here unless you like rubbing elbows with hordes of Padres fans. Good location, though, and the hotel was surprisingly quiet even with all yhe drunk baseball fans. I love this hotel.  It is very close to the Petco Park trolley station and also close to many hot spots and restaurants.  There is a Subway right across from the hotel, if you're on the go and looking for a quick bite.

Parking can be pricey in Gaslamp and this hotel is no different.  It is a solid four star hotel, parking comes at $34 a night.  However, you can also park at a structure across from the hotel, right next to Subway, and pay $17 all day - $8 max per day and $9 from 6 p.m. until 3 a.m.

You must stop at the hotel's sky lounge, Altitude Sky Lounge.  It has amazing views from the 22nd floor and got a good group of people partying up there.  If you're a hotel guest, you can bypass the line in the lobby and go up directly from your room to the lounge.

My stay here was wonderful.  Very clean, noise insulated, friendly staff, coffee well stocked every morning, Starbucks coffee right from the room, soft sheets, comfy bed, crazy view of Petco Park and Gaslamp, close to everything, and more!  Stay here and you will not regret!

The beautiful hotel is located directly across the street from Petco Park.  The staff here is wonderful and friendly and worked with our company to arrange a fair rate which included several amenities.  the 22nd floor is where the workout room is located and boost a nice election of machines and free weights.  Altitudes is also located on this floor and serves drinks, music and views not to be missed.

I've stayed here many times whenever I want to stay downtown and not have to drive back home to Mission Valley.

If you book early, you'll get a great deal. If you book late, you probably won't get the cheap rate but you'll definitely get your money's worth! This Marriott feels like a grand 4 star hotel to me. I'll leave a separate review for its rooftop lounge, Altitude, later.

The valet guys are sweet, will point you to the parkng garage across the street if you decide you don't want to valet. The front desk staff are polite and professional, too.

The rooms have always been fresh and clean. It's modern and contemporary and if you get lucky, you'll get a great view of Petco ballpark across the way.

I've never had a problem with customer service, cleaning service, or anything of that nature before. Downside is, I don't believe they have room service. Please read other reviews or call to ask about that.

This review is only for their conference room.

The bf and I came here for his company Christmas party last December.

The front lobby was attractive. Those beautiful blue lights behind the front desk really caught my attention as I walked in. It looked so chic and modern.

But when we arrived at the floor of the conference room, it all seemed so different... The conference room was even more disappointing... Bad lighting, low ceilings, a sad Christmas tree in the corner, outdated carpets, tables and chairs...

I guess it was on one of the floors that they haven't updated in a while or something...

Not to mention, the dinner food was awful... It was a tiny buffet station with dry turkey, greasy stuffing and boring salad. The only thing I liked was their green beans.

I've stayed at this Marriott once before and didn't really think much of it.  This past weekend my bf and i went to watch a Padre game and to celebrate my birthday.  Wow I really appreciate the fact that Petco Park is outside my window.  Really it was just outside our hotel.  PLUS 1.  I even had a nice view of Petco.

The Padre game was at 1:15 so we got there early  and the front desk allowed us to check in early.  Plus 1.

Nice clean room, with a view Plus 1.

    Nice staff, plus 1.

The only down side of this hotel: semi thin walls.  I woke up several times to hear people taking outside and i heard the room next to us turn on their shower.

The $32 parking is okay considering you get in and out privileges AND parking for the Padre game was @20. $12 more got me overnight parking and a sense of security. I would stay at this Marriott again.

Really great hotel for the area. If you want to party downtown and walk back to your room, this Marriott is your best friend. Has a good high-end feel.

Right when you walk in, you'll notice the neon glow behind the front desk. It totally caters to a younger crowd. With Altitude Sky lounge, it definitely brings in the party crowd. Altitude was surprisingly lively on a Saturday night. Nice views and decent music.

The rooms were very exceptional. Comfy, clean beds and the bathroom was my favorite. Clean, modern, and "Vegas-style". I was very pleased with the stay and location. Thumbs up

We picked this hotel because of it's close proximately to Petco Park.  We didn't realize that is was right across the straight.  When we pulled up in front of the hotel, there was a bit of a jam.  But the super alert valet came out into the street, unloaded our bags and took our car.

The front desk was friendly and we were more than happy to load our pockets with candy.  Pretty funny.

Our room was amazing.  We could see Petco Park from our room, plus the bay.  There are a lot of nice touches in the room, beautiful tile in the bathroom, including a mosaic design on the floor.  The furniture was rich wood, mirrored bedside table, we really loved our room.

We did experience a couple negatives.  Service in the hotel restaurant was pretty much non-existent.  Also, the efficient valet service from check in day was absent on check out day.  Still, this is a nice hotel and we enjoyed staying here.

Just got back from a night at the Marriott Gaslamp for our wedding anniversary. Had a great visit. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was not anything real special, but very clean and comfortable. Pretty much what you would expect from a Marriott room, but the more extravagent rooms in other hotels will cost you a lot more. We mentioned to the woman at the desk that it was our anniversary and she changed our room to a corner room on the 19th floor with an amazing view of Petco Park, the Coronado bridge, and the bay. My wife and I sipped drinks looking out the window for hours watching the Padres game and enjoying the incredible view of the bay. Later that night, we went up to the Altitude bar on the roof for a few more drinks. Very happening spot! The place was packed, but we managed to find a niche on the city lights side of the bar (small balcony, so not much room during crowded nights). Not the most romantic atmosphere with crowd and the DJ music thumping, but the view was worth it and we managed to tune it all out and enjoy the moment. Drinks were a little pricey, but your paying for the views, not so much for the drinks (about $12-$15 each). Overall, a great hotel for the price. Thank you Marriott Gaslamp for an anniversary to remember!

Hotel is in great location, modern rooms. One of best Marriott non-JW hotels in country.   Really for a business traveler no faults....however, depending on the night the hotel borders a night club on the north side called Moonshine Flats.....so if you have a north facing view the vibrations can keep you up.  During the week you can't go wrong here...

    No significant complaints at all.

For this price point, it's ultra-clean, quiet, in a perfect location (literally next to Petco Park--home of a very competitive Triple A baseball team--and the workers are friendly).  The Palm is also right around the corner, about a 30 seconds walk away.

The TVs could be on a slightly higher stand.  Lying on the bed, I could barely see the TV over my gut.  I could do more sit-ups, or they could buy a bigger stand.

Valet is a bit of a gouge but it's pretty much that way everywhere.  Overall, the hotel is a very good value for what you get.

I have several friends and family stay here previously- and would not recommend it again after this last time. The hotel itself is nice but it is very loud.  You expect some noise staying downtown, but the club next door is ridiculous.  The bass and vibrations coming from that place makes it hard to sleep.

    Very nicely done Marriott.

The Marquee in Downtown San Diego is considered one of Marriott's Flagship properties and rightly so.

From the immediately glistening of the massive 25 story structure, to the bay views from the room - this hotel is etiquette-wise, superb.

I've stayed in numerous hotels, but this one is different; it has a level of class without the pretentiousness and admittedly, it's something that I yearn for.  5 star is nice, but it can be over the top sometimes and that's just not what I'm looking for.

Trust me folks, you'll like this hotel.

We had a nice stay!  View of Petco is awesome!  Walking distance to everything.  Parking is pricey, but to be expected in a major city.  No pool, kids were way bummed.  This is why it is 4 stars for me.  Concierge lounge needs updating, service was  not all that friendly in the lounge.  The front desk was awesome.  Overall nice hotel!  I would consider again for the right price.

You pull up to an impressive tall building. The valet attentiveness is definitely not where it needs to be for a establishment that provides no other parking than valet. And charges you $34 a day to do so. The staffs promptness on helping you with your luggage was mediocre at best.

The lobby is nice. Check-in desk is very artsy and has very nice ambient lighting. Large bowls of candy adorn the counter tops. Nostalgic candies and Taffy Town Salt Water Taffy are available to tame your sweet tooth. We checked in. Unfortunately there was a booking discrepancy with the rooms I had reserved. The gal was happy to call reservations. I had hoped for early check-in as we were heading to an event at Qualcom stadium. No luck. We left for a bite to eat. With the gal promising to call once she had talked to reservations.

Upon return, our room was not ready and the gal said I was not booked for the rooms I thought I was booked for. Excusing the issue as a misunderstanding. I was disappointed with the lack of resolve. Basically sorry was it. I had to upgrade to receive the items that should have been included with my original reservation.

The staff was good at communicating by cell phone when our room was ready. They called after we had boarded the trolley. Unfortunately we did not get back to the Marriott until eleven pm. My husband and I had a snack and cocktails at the downstairs bar. The rooftop one was closed due to the rain. The bartenders there were great!!! One bartender makes a divine concoction with real strawberries.

Super small room. Small and narrow. Reminded me of New York hotel room. We had the city view which at night was not very exciting at night. However, when the sun rose this morning I was blessed with the most heavenly view of blue skies with the most amazing clouds. PetCo park is directly across the street making this hotel the perfect haven after watching a Dodger and Padres game!!! Nice beds, nice sheets. OK bathroom.

I ended up calling Marriott Customer service this morning in regards to the booking issue. Was treated poorly by the agent. I then asked to speak to someone else as she insulted me. The supervisor then handled the situation perfectly. She listened, made appropriate suggestions and contacted the front desk and resolved the issue.

As provided with the package I had reserved originally, we had breakfast at Soleil. The buffet was empty. Once it was brought to the attention of staff they did their best to replenish the food quickly. They do make a Delicious waffle with the best vanilla bean butter concoction I have ever tasted.

Overall, this Marriott is nice. The staff there tried at best. Marriott Customer Service in Omaha, NE I have to say saved the stay!

As a usual Marriott, this one location proved me wrong by bringing some style and trendier look to the standard Marriott hotel. The entire hotel definitely looks younger, nicer and much more fashion. It is probably THE best hotel location in SD, 10 yards away from the ballpark (i do mean 10 yards lol) and the all the nightlife activities (restaurants, bars, clubs and stores) of the Gaslamp and overall downtown area. Rooms are big and well equipped, gym a bit small but brand new and nice food options available. I was very lucky to open my window directly on Pepco Park from which I follow a bit of the game, pretty cool. Valet parking is a bit expensive ($35/day) however parking is a ***** in that area so it may be a good option.

Going back to SD, I know exactly where I am staying ;)

Tip: I saved the best for the end. They are an awesome rooftop bar named Altitude overlooking the ball park, review to come.....

This is for my stay back in 2008.

Even though it was quite a while ago, this hotel has definitely left an impression on me. I would consider going back here if I needed a place to stay in Downtown San Diego.

Right across the street from Petco Park and walking distance from all the night-life of Gaslamp District were the reasons why I chose this hotel for my birthday back in 08. The location of this Marriot was absolutely perfect for me. I didn't want to stay smack dab in the middle of Gaslamp and this was a bit off to the side, but still close to the party.

I didn't have too much of interaction with staff, but with those that I did, it was a very pleasant experience.

They also have a rooftop lounge, that I didn't get to take advantage of when I was there. We saw people waiting in line by the elevators to get into the lounge. Since we were guests we wouldn't have to wait in a line. We checked it out during the daytime and definitely regretted not going.

Rooms are very comfortable and well-kept. I always get a gross feeling whenever I stay in hotels, but this Marriot made me feel relaxed.

All tree stars for service (great).   Everyone we contacted during our stay provided excellent service.  Why not 4 or 5 stars?  Our sink,  or the plumbing next door, had a LOUD dripping sound (wasn't the actual faucet) that persisted most of the night - we'd have asked for another room, but we were too tired to pack up.   Also, please move the coffee pot, cups and other items out of the bathroom right next to the toilet.   Location also great.  With the two drawbacks addressed, easy 4 - 4 1/2 stars.

The lobby is small but it was still a good place to hang out for a few seconds before you head out. The area around Gaslamp can go from amazing to ghetto so be careful when walking around. But generally speaking-- the Gaslamp is beautiful, fun, alive, and totally diverse. so much to do, see, eat, and drink! The Mariott here is a perfect way to stop in and get it on the SD action! I came to San Diego for a business conference at the convention center which was 1 block away from this hotel, so it was very convenient. It is located right next to Petco park, I could see the stadium from my window! So cool.

From the firt moment we pulled up from the valet, the front desk, housekeeping, the restaurant staff and pretty much everyone had a huge smile on their face. I love that!!! So nice and helpful.

The decor was so modern, sleek and clean. Finally, the rooms were fantastic. HUGE, comfortable, beautiful chair in the room, great bathroom with good water pressure and lots of storage space in the room. The only thing I would change is the location of the TV which is a bit low in the furniture.

The rooftop bar was pretty happenin and it was great to be staying at the hotel because we could just bypass the line and head straight up.

You can get the nuts and bolts of this hotel by reading the rest of the reviews on here.  It's a nice hotel, a really nice hotel.  What I disliked was the insane amount of traffic brought on by the baseball stadium.  It took us over 2 hours to get back to the hotel from Mission Beach. The lot across the street from the hotel was full so we were forced to valet for $36.  I think that sucks. There were games both days of our stay.
I probably wouldn't stay here again, simply because of the location.  It might be amazing for a group of singles that wants to go out downtown or visit the rooftop bar, but for a family with kids, it wasn't really what we needed.

Four of us shared a room here while attending a conference.  It was very close to the convention center and offered special pricing.  Our biggest complaint was that the 2 full beds in the room seemed cramped.  That and we had a strange experience with my friend's ATM card and credit card being charged before we checked out.  She was charged more than the cost of our stay on her credit card and an incidental charge on her ATM.  This was after she'd requested all charges go on her credit card.  When we checked in with the front desk she was told these were just "holds." We never were able to figure out exactly what was going on, although the final charge actually ended up being less than the room rate we booked through the Convention website.

Be warned, if you are driving parking is $33 a day here.  One of our friends drove and opted to park across the street for $16 instead.

I've stayed at a lot of hotels. This is a nice one, but not quite staffed right. The rooms are small and tasteful. The beds are ridiculously comfortable. The rooftop bar is jumping and highly convenient. It's directly across from the ball park which would be great in season. My only complaints have to do with staffing. Everyone was curious, however short staffed. To buy a bottle of water you need to go to the front desk. There are only 2 people at the front desk, so standing in a line for 15 minutes to buy water is nuts. Valet took 20 minutes to get the car. Room cleaning didn't clean the room until about 3pm. Other than the short staff, the place is a good stay.

If I had one eensy teensy complaint I guess it'd be the $32 parking charge cuz when you're already paying $200+ for a room you'd think you could park for free. I know, I know.. the whole area is like that and charges for parking but then add it into the room charge so it doesn't seem so exhorbitant. :-\

If I am charged $250 a night, I expect a $250 treatment. Unfortunately this Marriott is all fluff and very little substance.

There is no free internet in the room. That's right: $250 a night, and if you want internet you have to pay an extra $9.95/day. That's really cheap. You can get free internet in the lobby, though.

The room is spacious, the bed is comfortable. The bathroom is equally large, with ample use of granite and mosaic decorations on the floor. Too bad about the gurgling noises coming from the toilet. Unfortunately the bathroom is also noisy: every time your next door neighbor takes a shower, you'll hear everything.

Also, if you're 5'8" or taller[1], you'll have to duck under the shower to wash your hair

The people who work here are very courteous, and always greet you with a "How are you doing, sir?" in the corridor or in the elevator. Too bad my room was not cleaned one day and I had to go down to the reception to complain.

No justification for the exorbitant price tag.

Stayed here two weeks ago after a night of debauchery with my amigo.  Check in/out was really smooth.

My friends aunt works for the Marriot in LA, so we were able to score on a great deal that was about 50% off of the rack rate. I work for the state as an "emergency worker", so I could also get the government rate, which was almost as good as the friends and family deal.  Just remember to choose the different rates option on their reservation web site.

The rooms are one room suites, so you've been warned.  I don't worry where I sleep, as long as I have a pillow, so I slept on the couch while my friend had the fluffy bed.  He kept raving how comfortable it was (d**k), so take his word for it.   Nice big flat screen TV made for a pleasant stay.  They also have a kitchen, fridge and counter area to prepare food, so if you're into the kind of thing you'll be very happy.

You also get a free buffet breakfast, which surprisingly really was good.  Well, take into consideration I was still actually drunk from the night before.  Either way, free cereal, eggs, bacon, fruit, yogurt and a make your own waffle station is a five star experience in my book any day.  If you want a "served" breakfast, The Broken Yolk is right across the street.

PS:  Shout out to the nice lady who escorted me back to my room after I forgot my watch on the floor after I had already left.

With that said, I have to say that this hotel is one of my favorite hotels anywhere.

The rooms are gorgeous and the service at the front desk was great. I loved the candy bowls!  The reason I am only giving three stars is because there were not seats available for breakfast. The concierge suite was too small. I also didn't like how they made you sign in and made it clear that only two adults per room were allowed to partake in the meal. It just didn't seem consistent with the high quality if service in the rest of the hotel.

This Marriott has a nice, upscale decor without looking pretentious. That's important to me because when I come back tired from a long day I like to feel like I'm staying someplace nice. I got a pretty good rate that included valet parking-- $36/day otherwise. The attached restaurants and clubs are pricy but with this hotel you're right in the Gaslamp so you can walk out to dozens of clubs and restaurants. It's also pretty convenient for driving to other locations; I found downtown traffic at rush hour to be really sparse.

BTW - the restaurant in the hotel has the best breakfast buffet around.  There isn't a lot of variety but what you do get is amazing.  Had the best french toast of my life there - they infused the butter with vanilla - sooooo tasty!

I had a phenomenal view of PETCO Park, and the Coronado Bay Bridge. The fact that my room had floor to ceiling windows view was just added icing on the cake. The rooms offer very comfortable beds, flat screen TV (although it sat a bit low for my taste), and other modern amenities.

Like most Marriott and Renaissance Hotels, this location offers a Concierge Lounge with complimentary offerings, spirits are offered on the honor system  for it's Gold and Platinum members: Breakfast from 6:30-9:00 am Mon-Fri, Hors d' oeuvres & spirits from 5:30-7:30 pm Sun-Thur, Desserts & Cordials from 7:45-10:00 Sun-Thur.

Gold and Platinum guests also receive free Internet access. This makes me a very happy camper. It's likely one of the reasons I've had a hard time switching over completely as a Starwood Preferred guest, where you earn free nights much faster.

I also enjoyed free guest access to the Altitude Sky Lounge located on the 22nd floor. They offer happy hour from 5:00-7:00 pm.

I gave four stars because my requests (made several months in advance) were not granted, I had to move rooms, and the carpet in the hallways looks old and dingy.

Overall, I think the hotel itself was very nice and would probably stay there again.

My friend and I stayed the weekend at this hotel in June 2012.  The hotel is in a great location, the hotel staff is very nice and accommodating,  restaurant is pretty good, we had a great field view of Petco Park from our room, and the hotel itself is aesthetically appealing. There's a 24hr Subway directly across the street, so you dont have to settle for overpriced room service to satisfy late night munchies.

When we got to our room the bathroom floor was completely flooded because of an issue with the toilet (yuck). We called down to the front desk, and they had someone up to the room in what seemed like no time at all. Once they realized the issue could not be fixed they moved us to another room not to far away. The hotel staff was very apologetic and went above and beyond to make up for the mishap.
Our second room was a tid bit larger with a great view. It did have an issue with the bathroom sink where it made random gargling noises, but it was infrequent and not worth the hassle of moving to another room.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel for families (at least not on the weekends) unless you're ok with you kids seeing half naked women scattered all over the place trying to get into the nightclubs.

Their resident clubs Latitude and Longitude are pretty cool. Drink discounts are available for hotel guests during certain days/hours (woo hoo). You have to use a room key to use the main hotel the elevators, so you don't have to worry about random club patrons in the corridors of the hotel.

Because of the hotel's location there is no self parking (small price to pay for the great location). You have to park in a downtown paring structure or with their valet. If you are arriving late night on a weekend like we did be prepared for the downtown parking structures to be full. Parking valet was bitter sweet. The daily rate is about $28, but you do get in and out privileges.

The main reason for the lower rating is their valet service. The valet drivers were all nice, and I never had to wait to long for my car. My problem with the valet wasn't noticed until I was on my way home and noticed a man's hat in my back seat and broken glass on my front and rear passenger floor mats... Keep in mind I am female, I drove to the hotel alone, and never had any passengers in my car that weekend... My question then is what the heck was going on with my car while I thought it was parked in valet??

My advice... If you are going to stay at the hotel and you have a nice car DO NOT use the valet. Arrive early and find a space in the parking structure across the street.

Loved our stay! Everything was super clean. We pricelined and got this hotel! Perfect getaway! Front desk check in was super easy. We checked in later around 5:30 PM. It took us like 5 minutes to check in. We were upgraded to the 20th floor which overlooked Petco Park. Nothing was going on in terms of a game, but still the view was pretty.

The room has great amenities. Starbucks coffee packs, Mr. Coffee coffee maker, a pull out mini refrigerator. I put in my bottle of white wine and it was chilled in 15 minutes or so. The beds were super comfortable. The bathroom was comfy and modern with more amenities. The room was spacy, comfortable and felt more like home. I would definitely stay here again in the future.

Tip for parking: We parked next door at the ACE parking structure. We arrived on a Friday around 5:30 PM and checked out at 10:45 A.M. Parking cost was $17.00 as opposed to $36 for the Marriot.

I have been to this hotel for their rooftop bar Altitude. Free and a great view of San Diego. It's beautiful here.

Didn't get to have breakfast at the hotel. But the downstairs cafe looks cute and inviting. Definitely would stay here again the future. The lobby is comfy. Sit in one of the green chairs. The restrooms are super clean.

The AC made noise all night--I kid you not, all night. I have videos of everything, even the handy man coming into the room trying to fix it, while the front desk people didnt believe him...Wack
I will not be returning here.

A nice hotel on it's own, but really excels when you want to do some exploration of downtown San Diego on foot.  The location here makes it ideal to do some people watching.   From a business perspective it was great for me since I was able to walk to my week long meetings at a business park right by Petco.

Pricey rooms, but since you can avoid transportation expenses if meeting in the city, it all adds up.  Nice nice place!

Great hotel in the gaslamp.  My cousin ended up getting a room here since she didn't want anyone to drive home after celebrating her birthday.  They ended up placing us on the 21st floor.  Such an amazing view from the top!

She has been wanting to try Altitude for ages now and we finally were able to go.  The line is usually crazy when we try to get in so it was really convenient being a hotel guest so we were able to use the other elevators to get in.

Our room was right below Altitude so you hear the music.  It didn't really bother any of us but im sure if you weren't planning on partying that night then that location would be bad for you.

Service was great.  They responded to us right away with what we wanted in the room.  I also liked that we were able to crack open the windows.  Fresh air is always a plus!  Would definitely love to stay here again.

Location, location, location! We dined, attended a Padre game, enjoyed the Gaslamp nightlife all within walking distance from our hotel...and in 3 inch heels! Comfortable, quiet accommodations and as elite members, quick access to the altitude rooftop bar (which we found too crowded for our liking). We spent a couple late night veins with a night cap in the downstairs street front bar, soleil. We will stay here again!

Not impressed at all! We have stayed in nice hotels everywhere and thought they cut corners too much, especially for how expensive it is to stay here.

Biggest peeves:  No pool (NO POOL!), and NO REFRIGERATORS in the rooms. Hell, they didn't even bother to give you an ice bucket. We were here on a very hot weekend and this was really noticeable. Their excuse for not having a pool is their proximity to nice San Diego beaches. Well since there are none within walking distance, this doesn't really do you any good, does it? And can you remember the last time you stayed in a hotel and not had a refrigerator in the room??  Even a Best Western would have a friggin frig!

Valet parking is $36 per day (!!) and you have to pay extra for WiFi.

Another peeve is that the beds are only DOUBLES and not queen-sized. This seems to be a standard industry practice now and I think it sucks! The bedding is also now a common practice: one thin sheet and a super thick comforter. So you either freeze or boil. There is no in-between.

The service was marginal. We came back to our room at 4:00 pm and it still had not been made up! Tried to call the front desk and it just rang and rang.  No one ever answered.

What they did right: They are the only hotel I've seen that finally put exhaust fans in the bathrooms. Have you ever noticed that? If your husband stinks up the bathroom before you, trust me you'd notice. They also had the biggest room safe I've seen, although its position in the closet made it almost unusable. The rooms were nice and clean, nice products in the bathroom and the location can't be beat.

But in my opinion they were resting on their laurels with the location hook and scrimped on major things, like pools and refrigerators!
This is not a cheap hotel and we felt like we got leaned over. Would it really kill them to give you free WiFi? Apparently. We left with a really bad taste in our mouths and have no intention of ever staying here again.

Great hotel for a weekend getaway!
5 star for customer service! Super friendly front desk and plus free taffy! =D
Rooms are very nice and homey. I got lucky with a room with a view of Petco Park and the ocean.
I loved this hotel because it is directly in the Gas Lamp area and walking distance to all the restaurants and shopping.

Parking is valet only = $36/day with in and out privileges.
If you can, theres a Parking Lot on 6th street across the street from the hotel that runs about $21! =)  But it gets full fast and no in and out privileges!

Subway and ice cream right across the street too!

If you have time, don't forget to walk to Petco Park and get some good pictures!

I just spent this past Labor Day Weekend in SD. I took the wife and kids to enjoy the Dodgers vs. Padres ballgame. After the game we walked around the Gaslamp Quarter and enjoyed dinner. We arrived at our room shortly before 10pm and went to bed. I hung my jersey as well as my son's inside the closet overnight. We got up the next morning, checked out and off we went. Halfway home (about 3 hours later) I realize I forgot our jersey's in the room. My wife called the front office and they had her fill out a Lost & Found claim over the Marriott's webpage. I was hoping someone would've just gone upstairs and retrieved our belongings. My wife gets an email response 2 days later claiming nothing was found. I AM 100% SURE I LEFT THE JERSY'S IN THE HOTEL ROOM CLOSET!! I know it's my fault for forgetting it behind but that shouldn't give someone working at the Marriott Gaslamp the right to STEAL our belongings. I called the manager on duty (Francisco) and he assured me all of his workers are honest. He said the maid did not find anything or the manager that comes and checks the rooms after they have been cleaned.  He said I could also speak with their security manager (Matt). Guess what??? Got the same answer... Maybe someone at Marriott should try explaining it to their kids why someone wouldn't return something that had sentimental value to them. Obviously we'll never be staying there again.

    Easy Access To Rooftop Lounge

The hotel is located in a prime location near the convention center and Petco park. If you're there on a day the Padres are playing, be sure to go to the roof and see the game. The rooftop turns into a hopping club at night (stayed on the 17th floor and did not hear any noise from club) which after 10 has a line to get in -- but with your room key you'll get priority access with no lines. The rooms are decorated nicely with custom tiling in the bathroom, comfortable beds, and depending on location view of bay, ballpark, or city. Parking standard city around $35 (self parking Ace lot just across street on K about $23). The concierge in the lobby is moderately helpful. There are many, many, many places to eat within walking distance. Bummer, there is no pool at this property.

Don't get me wrong. This is still my favorite place to stay when in San Diego.

Only on this stay- I stayed over a weekend and that bar I love so much on the roof kept me up on both Friday and Saturday night. You see- when people come back to their rooms after partying on the roof- they are LOUD! And they come in two shifts. The first one being around midnight and the next wave when the bar closes at 2am. If your room is between the elevator and their rooms- you will be awoken to loud talking, laughing and screaming down the hallway.

My advice? Stay out later than 2 am. Or if that is not an option for you- if you are there over a weekend- ask for a room far away from the elevator. You might stand a chance of actually getting some sleep.

Great location.  Within walking distance to most things in the Gaslamp District.  The hotel is next to the Ballpark so most rooms have great view of the Ballpark also.  Only valet parking is offered at the hotel but there is a parking lot just across the street for $10.

The bar on the roof is pretty chill.

I came here for a staycation this past weekend because not having a real job, that's what you do when you're stressed and on a budget. Being a Marriott rewards member, I guess I could've used my points but I am a points whore, just like Clooney on "Up in the Air". So I paid about $230 which included taxes, parking, breakfast buffet, and a $25 gas card for one night. For downtown and the Marriott, it's not a bad deal.

The rooms are great, decent sized with modern decor. Love it! I do NOT love, however, how small the bathroom was. The tub was substandard, not great for taking baths. House amenities are from Gilchrist & Soames, nice touch even though I am not from England. The toilet even has the Flushmate mechanism so every flush works wonders. Even if you had hit the buffet. Ok, that might be too much information.

The downstairs breakfast buffet at Soleil K was wonderful. It had scramble eggs, bacon, apple and regular sausages, potatoes, selection of cold cereals, fresh fruits, cheeses, muffins, bagels, breads, fruit spreads. On top of that, you can request from the server your choice of omelets and pancakes which is made fresh to order.

The Valet staff is great, all cars valet here are parked in the same garage. So if you needed something from your car, you can just ask them and they can open up your car for you. The valet staff always asks if you needed directions on your way out.

I would come back here again, in a heartbeat. I had one minor complaints here. One was I heard the sound of hammering and sawing at 7:30pm. It continued for 1/2 hour.  I called downstairs and they assured me no construction was going on. So I kicked the wall a few times and it the sound did eventually go away.

I saw a few people staying here that had their wedding either here or nearby. There is a salon and nails place directly across the street, so this Marriott is definitely a good place to stay if you are with a wedding group.

The workout room is just ok, it had a universal type gym, some free weights, a couple bikes, threadmills, and steppers with some little LCD tvs. It is on the same floor as the Altitude lounge which I didn't get to try.

They have free candy by the reservation desk, grab some on your way out!

Tips: Get a even number room, they face the ocean preferably on the end unit. You will also see Petco Park and the Omni/Hilton in front of you so it's not a total Ocean View. Don't stay too far up, you'll hear the music from Altitude Lounge.Do get the breakfast buffet, you get fresh squeezed OJ.

We just celebrated my husband's 30th birthday down in Gaslamp and stayed here for 2 nights. I got a great deal through Hotwire which made this stay even more awesome, $106/night! Normal check in is 4pm, but we arrived early Friday around 2:00pm and did a pre-check in since no King bedrooms were available yet. They took all our info and called me once a room was ready, literally about 30 mins later. Once we returned, check in was a breeze since they already had all our information.  Our room did not come with a fridge but I was able to request that one be sent up to our room, free of charge. Everything was super clean and up to my standards. Our room was on the 19th floor, super spacious with an awesome view.  All the staff were super helpful and extra friendly. Went up to Altitude (rooftop bar) and checked out the view. Simply amazing! We will stay here again!

P.S. I would recommend parking across the street in the parking structure to save some money. We paid $38 for the entire weekend as opposed to $38/day at the Marriott. No need to move our car since everyting is pretty much walkable in Gaslamp.

This is the worst experience of my life. I went to the rooftop bar and spent a LOT of Money here. It was so dark that I left my wallet on the table. I went back to get it and they said that I have to go to a website to describe my item. I did so, and they emailed me back that they did in fact have it and I could pick it up. When I went to pick it up it took nearly an hour to find it. I missed my flight. I WOULD NOT recommended this hotel.

We came to San Diego on a package deal found on the Marriotts own website. The hotel is a bit pricey, but the deal included a $50 voucher to use at the hotels own amenities. Included a martini welcome package, and included free valet parking (otherwise $36), and a free movie. So the package really seemed good.

We checked in and the personell was so friendly, helpful and professional. I was surprised, but very pleased. Ten minutes after we checked in, room service came with the martinis (which was prebottled martinis (4) and martini glasses, olives, orangeslices and such) very nice, and definitely enough.

The hotel was great. Personell was outstanding.

We even got free breakfast the next day, for whatever reason.. and when  we checked out, we kinda expected them to give us fuss with the discount and the movie we ordered - but nothing. Super quick, helpful and awesome.

    Great experience.

Very nice digs for a Marriott. I likey I likey.

Parking - Park in the parking structure across the street.  Its like $10 a day.

The hotel is very nice.  Current decor, hip staff and a stones throw to Petco Park.  I'm LOLing at myself for typing a stones throw.  Rather you stay here or not go to the Rooftop Lounge.

We had a suite and it was very nice.  Separate Living area which was very spacious.  Great to have when you need sometime apart...but together.  The bed was comfortable and overall and very nice room.  Id recommend this location to any and everyone, who can afford it.  It is downtown San Diego after all.

Best hotel to stay at when your going to see a ball game at Petco Park.  And, hell, if you ain't staying here just make a trip to the Altitude lounge and check it out from up there.  The views are just as good from your higher floor rooms as they are at Altitude.  Luckily, we got a room at one of the top floors.  Unfortunately, for most, I think they reserve those top floors for Marriott Elite's only.

The valet is necessary, especially on Fridays and Weekends because the tourist come out at night at the area.  You will not find a spot on the streets once the sun falls.  Of course, the rates for certain parking lots can be cheaper but if you fixed in a rate that includes parking for your room, then there are no probs.  Didn't get a rate that includes parking...well, a few bucks is worth a little convenience, I'd valet that's for sure.  Besides the valet guys handled the cars pretty safely.

If you got breakfast included in your rate then you probably headed down to Soleil at the lobby for some grub.  You can choose an item from the menu or just partake in their breakfast buffet.  The breakfast buffet doesn't really have much to choose from, so it's best just to order from the menu.

Lobby is pretty nice looking.  I especially like their wall filled with different types and colors of glassware.  It looks cool for any fan of glass art.

The rooms are unbelievably comfortable.  The beds are soft and plush.  The amenities are great...Starbucks coffee, Aveda, etc.  The room just felt comfy...that's all I can really say.  Plus, it doesn't hurt to see a ballpark outside your room to remind you of bigger things in life.

In the end though, it's all about the location.  The gaslamp quarter has got a lot of food places to choose from, so choose wisely.  When in SD, you might as well dig in on some steak nachos with fries at neighboring Mexican restaurants near the ballpark.  It's a must have for any non-San Diegan.

Really nice hotel located in a great area (Gaslamp district). Adjacent to Petco Park with a beautiful view (at least from my room). Room was very clean and well furnished. Room prices are a bit much but I suppose as with any piece of real estate it is all about location, location, location. Biggest turn off for me was the parking situation. You either pay out of your a$$ for valet parking or park across the street in the garage which still isn't cheap. The rooftop bar is very cool and surprisingly affordable offering exceptional views of Petco Park and the Harbor area.

The most important things are there: good location, reasonable price, friendly staff.

It's definitely a good deal overall.

Two things are a bit annoying:
    1. The bathroom door is poorly designed.  It is very heavy and wooden and "slides" across carpet, making it difficult to close.  It wouldn't be so bad if they extended the bathroom tile below the door.  I'm not sure what happened with the designers there.
    2. The club scene at night interferes with the guest experience quite a bit.  Particularly the elevators, which are very crowded with club goers and the bouncers which demand to see room keys before letting people into their rooms.

Do yourself a favor and have at least one meal at the restaurant downstairs.  The grilled cheese sandwich is to die for!

    Sizzling Staycation
We have just come back from an amazing Staycation for three nights at this beautiful, unique hotel, made all the more special by the staff.  The hotel is very nice and the staff superb.

As we approached the hotel the first thing we noticed was the exceptional valet crew.  Every time we used our car at least two of them approached to open my and my wife's door. They were friendly and helpful with directions and advice and always smiling.

At check-in they have over-flowing bowls of vintage candy and taffy to tempt you and to make you feel more at home.  The reception people were friendly and quickly checked us in and on our way to the room.

The room was clean and comfortable.  The bed was extremely comfortable with nice pillows and comforter.  The TV was new, flat and large, and the amenities were nice..

The convenience of the location is perfect, because you are close enough (2 small blocks to the main drag) and far enough to not hear unwanted noise late at night.  Interesting enough, the hotel offers the best lounge for my money in San Diego, Altitude.  It has a killer view of the downtown and the stadium (where we watched the last few innings of a game one night).  For sunset it is beautiful, and later at night it is a busy happening place.

Normally we don't eat in hotel restaurants but one evening we were tired and decided to have dinner at Soleil @k the in house restaurant.  I would say that it compares very favorably with most restaurants downtown and the service and food were great.

While there I used the gym daily which was big enough that there were plenty of cardio machines and had enough equipment to do a full body workout with stretching.  The gym was also clean (my biggest pet peeve at most hotels).

There were lots of little details at this hotel like complimentary bottled water in the rooms, Starbucks coffee in room, candy and cookies on your pillow.  While there are lots of amenities at this hotel, the best amenity is the staff.  Everyone seemed happy to be working and doing their job from the maids to the maintenance people.  Thanks San Diego Marriot Gaslamp for making our Staycation feel like a great vacation!

Booked this hotel via Priceline on very short notice and got a very reasonable rate for it. The Hotel is located in walking distance to the USS Midway and very close to 5th street in the Gaslamp quarter, where all the shopping and the good restaurants are. Right next to Petco Park, which you can see from the rooftop (parties at night, elevators get a little crowded on weekends). Easy drive to Coronado and old town San Diego.
Beds were comfy, rooms clean, only downside was the $ 38 parking fee per night - find parking somewhere else!!! There is a parking garage across the street and also street parking...
    Free WiFi in the lobby.

I spent the weekend here and loved this place! Located within steps of the Gaslamp District and Petco Park - it's so convenient. Check in was a breeze and the ladies at the front desk were so friendly and helpful.

I booked the $259.00 a night package which included breakfast for two each morning, daily valet parking and a $25.00 credit for gasoline! Upon check in I received an upgrade to a suite on the 21st floor which had a living room with a Bose cd player, a work station and a entertainment center. The separate bedroom was nicely decorated with a large flat screen mounted on the wall,  a super comfy bed and bathrobes. The bathroom was roomy modern and included extras like a body scrubber, mouthwash, sewing kit and shoe shine mitt.

At night the turn down service included packs of Oreo cookies and a CD to unwind for bedtime which was a nice plus. For dinning - Soleil on K downstairs offers indoor and outdoor dinning and has a separate bar with happy hours specials. We dined here for breakfast indoors and outside and food and service was solid. Buffet breakfast is $19.00 a person and includes omletts, french toast and waffles made to order, in addition to the buffet station.

On the 22nd floor enjoy the Altitude Sky lounge, offering 2 bars along with flat screens, firepit and a DJ after 9:00 pm on weekends.
The line gets really long late night but if your staying here just show your key and bypass everyone!

Marriott Gaslamp has a fitness center which is adequite for a workout and is equipped with lifesteps, lifecycles, treadmills, weight machines and freeweights.

    Definetly will return here again!

Decent and clean.  Staff is friendly and helpful. Just wish they had a pool!  And free wi-fi as well as a bigger bathroom!  =( The room card  key entry that had to be used everytime you go in the elevator was a bit annoying. Guests going in and out seemed to get frustrated by it too. With the AAA discount, you get free parking though, just have to tip the valet people.

But I will give it props to being in a good location.  It's near everything.  And I wouldn't mind staying here again.

I wasn't too happy about the booking agent not mentioning that parking wasn't included in the daily hotel rate. I was in the area on business and I am forced to stay under a specific per diem government rate, which was meet under the rate they gave me over the phone. After speaking with the staff I wasn't able to get them to resolve my daily rate under per diem, which forced me to move to another location.

I also find it kind of tacky how I have to call a number to speak with booking rather then speaking to the person at the front desk. I was forced to make an extra effort to come to an resolution with my problem. A company that forces their customer to make an extra effort, isn't a company that I'd continue my business with.

I also agree with other people on here, that the hotel walls seem thin and you can easily hear water running and people converse through the walls. Additionally I find it rather DISGUSTING that the coffee machine is in the bathroom, that' really GROSS.

This is simply one of the best Marriott hotels that I've ever stayed in, hands down.

I've rarely stayed at hotels in California, only because 1) I would stay with relatives or 2) I was living here at the time. I was in between this Marriott or one that was closer to Mission Valley, (the heart of SD) but I'm SO glad that I chose this location!

    1) The whole staff from the front desk, valet, and housekeeping were extremely friendly, polite, and accommodating throughout our stay. Housekeeping made our room sparkling clean everyday.
    2) There's candy at the front desk for you to take! Necco wafers, tootsie rolls, etc.
    3) If you forget to pack a toiletry or if you want a soda, pack of gum, etc., there's a convenience store located next to the front desk.
    4) Brand name shampoo/conditioner/lotions, mini shower puff and other toiletries for you to take, (sewing kit, shoe mitt, etc.) AND bottled waters that are restocked everyday -- free of charge!
    5) The location is awesome. You're literally right next to Petco Park (the SD Padres stadium) and walking distance from restaurants, shops, and bars. Driving to Banker's Hill and Hillcrest can be done within minutes.

    1) Valet costs $36 a day, but came with in and out privileges and is billed to your room when you check out.
    2) There are no refrigerators or ice buckets in the rooms.
    3) There isn't a pool -- but there's an awesome rooftop lounge that makes up for it.
    4) You're charged for WiFi usage.
    5) To go onto your floor, you have to swipe your room key before you press the button in the elevator.

Proof that their service is A+: I left two pairs of earrings (diamonds and pearls) in the room after we checked out because we didn't have a thorough sweep. I didn't realize until we were halfway towards LA, and then I called the hotel and left a message with their Lost and Found. They called me back and they're mailing me my earrings, free of charge!

This is a boutique style Marriott. It's well located and has a rooftop bar. The service is good. I did not go to the restaurant as it was empty and did not inspire me to try it out. Plus it's surrounded by tons of restaurants.  If I cannot get into some of the other boutique hotels in the Gaslamp, this hotel is my preferred hotel. Comfy beds! Paid wifi, which actually makes me sleep better - so that's a plus, in spite of the annoyance.

San Diego has a lot to offer, this place, not so much....

It's a decent, modern hotel, the staff was slow but nice.  As for the location, it is right next to Petco Ballpark and a large area of the gaslamp that is undergoing a  Renaissance revival.  That means a lot of construction.  I was not planning on being in my room much while attending a near by conference but when we got to the room and saw a huge Tractor/JackHammer tractor I was bummed.  Needless to say they fired it up early but we didn't hear a thing in the newly constructed building - Bonus!

In the end it is a hotel A-OK to me.

Hotel has great location, walking distance to night life.  Valet is ridiculous at $40/night however you can park in the garage across the street for half that.  Beds are super comfortable, we had a King Bed Suite (no view) but the room was large, toiletries were decent, coffee was good.  Semi pricey but if you can find a deal on hotwire or priceline definitely worth the stay.  Room went for $430/night but we used priceline and got it for $189/night.  Super savings!  Highly recommended hotel!

This Marriott has it all, nice amenities, perfect location and candy bowls at check-in! Yes, candy bowls filled with various sugary treats (tootsie rolls, pixie sticks, caramels) similar to trick-or-treating! Located right next door to the Padre's stadium, our room looked into the baseball park! I've been to my fair share of ballpark cities and I've never been to a city that had a view of the park from the hotel.

The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds and nice smelling products. In addition, they have a fun rooftop bar that looks into the ballpark. It would be the perfect place to watch a baseball game from afar. Besides the baseball park access, this Marriott is also located in the heart of the gaslamp so you are walking distance to all the bars and marina without ever worrying about a cab. Plus it's only about a $10 cab to the airport!

    I highly recommend staying here.

About a year ago, we stayed here for couple of nights. Front desk did not only have poor customer service but they were also rude. Surprised to be ridiculed on how I purchased my hotel room. That snooty little front desk told us , "oh you purchased your room through Priceline so you only get a double bed." (I asked for a queen bed).  The room was pretty bad too.  The view was a freaking wall. At some point, we got fed up with the attitude that we requested another room. We also then told the manager about what that front desk lady said to us. She tried to apologize but obviously I really do not care anymore. I

As far as the location, this is probably the best location iif you want to be near Gaslamp district, the convention center, mall (next door) and other San Diego's points of interests. Overall, you will still need a car but dare not to park at the hotels garage. They charge an arm and a leg and not only that, they do not have in and out priviledge.

I think for the money I paid I could have stayed somewhere else less the attitude. Will not be coming back here again.

Updating my review of the Marriott San Diego Gaslamp.  Truth is that there are not much in the way of changes, but I think it's important to report that just as much as if there WERE changes!   This was our third year staying at the Gaslamp Marriott and everything went very smooth, as usual.

This time at check in, we were told we could be put on a waiting list for a refrigerator and my husband explained that we had placed a request on our reservation for a refrigerator and we were told they would "see what they could do, but that they were out of refrigerators".  We were worried, but within an hour a refrigerator was brought to our room!

Everything about our room was as usual.  We were actually in a room right across from the elevator bank and I was really worried about noise, but it was mostly quiet, surprisingly!  Nice room.  Nice view of Petco and the bay.  Comfy bed and bedding.  The bathrooms here are small, but lots of amenities were provided and we even had robes this time.

We were pleased that the concierge room was open every day, even on weekends for breakfast, so that was super handy.  We never made it there for apps, but we definitely partook of the daily breakfast!  The staff in the concierge room were AWESOME!

Internet in the room was slow sometimes and went in and out at times, so that was a little frustrating, but it wasn't horrible and I've been in places where it was horrible, so I'm good.  WiFi is free if you are a Marriott Gold member or above and/or if you are on the concierge levels.  I THINK you have to pay otherwise, but I am not 100% certain of that anymore.  Funny, this is probably the first time I've stayed in a hotel for five days and never once turned on the television!!!  Crazy.

All staff were super friendly.  The only negative I ran into was when I had misplaced my mobile telephone, I assumed at Altitude, the rooftop bar.  When I called to ask about a lost and found, I was told I had to go online and complete some online process, which if I didn't have a computer would be horrible considering I am IN THE HOTEL RIGHT NOW... just check!  I donot like that process at all, but luckily it was a moot point because guests can go up on the roof 24 hours a day, even when the bar is closed, so I did and found the telephone myself... WHEW!

The only thing I do not like is the freaking insane parking rates here.  Bejeezus.  We get dropped off and picked up usually... this time the husband had to take the train home to get the car and come back to pick up my and our 50 bags of luggage.

Other than that little weirdness, I love this hotel.  It's beautiful, the staff are friendly, it's in a great location and they have salt water taffy at the front desk that I loaded my pockets with every morning!

Great location as the hotel is right in front of Petco ballpark and within walking distance to all downtown activities.  The rooms were comfortable but there was a loud gargling noise being made from the bathroom every time somebody flushed the toilet.  Also, the TV is pretty low and it's hard to watch laying in bed.  Other than those two observations, the hotel was nice with a friendly staff.

My family and I  went to the SD Comic Con on Sunday and chose to stay at the Marriott. The Marriott is located next to lots of restaurants, bars and cute boutique shops. The convention center is two blocks away and they are close to Ace Parking. I mention Ace Parking because it's only 24 dollars for the day compared to 40 dollars charged by the Marriott. The staff was very friendly and allowed us to check in early. The rooms are really clean and our view was really nice. I would definitely stay at the Marriott again!

Third star - concierge lounge with lots of water, snacks, and hot breakfast.

Fourth star - best rooftop bar, great drinks, great views, and easy elevator ride to bed at the end of the night.

We are Marriot Rewards Members and stay frequently in these hotels. Beautiful hotel and located in a great location downtown. Very clean, and decent view from our room. Service was good.

Only con would be the parking. Prepare to pay for parking because there is not a lot of extra parking downtown.

We liked the hotel, but there were a few problems thus the lower star count. I'll lay out the good, the bad and the ugly here.

Pros: Great location. Walking distance to all of Gaslamp. Clean hotel. Excellent view of Petco Stadium right outside our window. Starbucks coffee for the in-room coffee maker

Cons: Doesn't offer free breakfast like most hotels do. No fridge or microwave in the room. No hotel binder in the room that explains policies, evacuation maps, phone extensions, etc. Staff leaves something to be desired.

    1) They charge $40 for valet parking when there is a $15/day lot across the street. The reason we found out about the lot across the street was because while we were waiting for valet, we watched the valet driver get into a guest's Acura, back up, look out the window to see where was going and then continued to back up right into a metal "roadwork" sign. Its safe to assume that sign left a HUGE scratch on the person's car which could have been avoided since he clearly saw the sign. He didn't get out to check, he just carried on taking the car to the valet lot. We pulled up to the valet stand and told the next valet driver what had just happened and he replied with "uh-oh" but carried on with the next car after we refused valet.

    2) We booked two Queen beds for the room since there were 4 of out for a girls weekend. When we got there they gave us two double beds instead. When we told them our paperwork lists the beds as queen, she said, "hmm I don't know why it says that since we don't have any queen beds. Most hotels don't offer queen beds."

That's kind of a crazy thing to say since every hotel I have stayed in ever in my life (and that is a lot) has had two queen beds in the room. She didn't offer any compensation or discount or upgrade, just a look of confusion. Needless to say, I did not sleep well on my half of a double bed.

    3) Not as big of a deal, but the front desk ladies were pretty uninformed. First, she didn't know that EVERY other hotel actually does offer queen beds, but also, we checked in at about 5 pm and she told us that Happy Hour at the Altitude lounge upstairs was from 5-7. I had checked online and I knew happy hour was not available on Saturday, so I asked if they had changed their policy. She said happy hour was available on Saturday, so we got our hopes up, got dressed, rushed upstairs to find out that in fact it was NOT available on Saturdays. I know that the lounge is a different entity that the hotel, but the front desk people should really have more information about it since they promote it when you check in.

    4) I suppose this should be a review on the site for Altitude Lounge, and maybe I will post there as well. The bartender was annoyed that the four of us wanted to pay separately. I find that strange since we were all paying cash and never asked to pay together. She just assumed we were together. Or maybe she was mad that we weren't taking turns buying four rounds of drinks. She also told me my martini was $12.50. I gave her my $20 and she brought back the change and said "Oh actually the Martini was $13.25. Ok, I'm not moaning about an extra $.75 for a drink, but she should have only charged me what she originally said the price was and not changed it after I had already given her my $20.

So, hotel-wise, its a nice place but staff-wise they could use an extra training session or two.

Booked this hotel via priceline & upgraded the moment I checked in. I was informed immediately by front desk the padres were playing that evening & if I would like my room facing/looking into petco stadium. What a great added bonus! Long story short... customer service rocked, access to the concierge lounge for breakfast rocked, serving up a really super awesome breakfast! Altitude is the rooftop lounge located on the 22nd floor it has the most phenomenal view into petco stadium kinda like nose bleed seats. This hotel is a must stay for Padres fans!! The drinks are priced average however they do offer a daily happy hour till 7pm.

The only disappointments I encountered was the elevators had no A/C or ventillation, not a very plesant ride when your stopping floors packing in people from 90º heat. Also the parking arrangement here $38 valet come & go privileges or across the street parking garage $20 overnight with no come & go privileges. Good news everything is in walking distance!

I would definitely stay here again, great ambiance & atmosphere! Thanks Marriot San Diego Gaslamp Quarter for a great nights stay & the salt water taffy

We stayed here during comic con and it was great!  Really easy and convenient to get to the convention center + to dinner all over the Gaslamp district.  It was cheaper than the other Marriott too which was awesome haha.

The room had all the basics, and was actually bigger than I expected it to be.  No complaints here!  I also loved that they had tootsie rolls and taffy at the check in counter lol.  A small but pleasant touch.

Overall it was really just a good experience and I have no complaints about the place!

I write this review as I lay in a Marriott bed, smelling the distinct odor of bleach emanating from my bed sheets, and listening to a cacophony of toilets flushing, water gushing through pipes, closet doors rolling, and the occasional door slam from dozens of my neighbors who are starting their Sunday at 7:30am. To be clear, sound insulation was not a priority when this hotel was built.

Five minutes ago I could hear my neighbors hair drier. The other night I heard them chatting away at 1am - perhaps a little louder than usual because of slight inebriation - but really it was an average conversation... And... I now hear flip-flops as someone walks down the hallway outside my door -- flip-flops!!!

Yesterday when housekeeping turned on the tub in the room next to me, the drain in my bathroom gurgled, belched, and groaned to add a splendid crescendo to the already impressive morning Marriott symphony.

But perhaps the icing on the cake, the quintessential demonstration of the lack of care and planning that went into this hotel, can be found with the room's media cabinet -- it is designed so that the T.V. is positioned a few inches BELOW the bed. Forget actually laying in bed to watch the boob-tube - your feet get in the way (I posted a pic of this experience). One would think that before they dropped a cool half a million on furniture for this place, someone might have noticed the impracticality of this set-up?

Sadly, when planning this place, too much emphasis went into picking pretty wallpaper and modern decor, and not enough into the actual customer experience.

I stayed here last weekend with a friend because of the proximity to the SD half marathon starting line. When we booked, we had requested two queens but by the time we checked in at 5:30 (check-in officially starts at 4), all they had left was kings. Not a big deal for us, a king is big enough for two people to sleep in without running into each other. While waiting in line I had noticed that the check in process was pretty slow going and as we stood there I realized it was because everyone else was requesting two beds and throwing a tantrum when they were told there weren't any (overheard from the couple next to us "But there's another couple staying with us! How are we going to sleep?!" Here's an idea, how about you embrace personal space and not put two adult couples in one room next time, people). She didn't say anything, but I suspect we got a slightly better view in exchange for being so agreeable about the one bed situation because our room had an amazing view of the ocean and a partial view of Petco.

The lobby area was much more modern than the rooms themselves, but there was nothing wrong with the room. I recently stayed at the Hotel Andaz a few blocks away and while that was definitely cooler/more modern, the Marriott was clean, nice and convenient to where we wanted to be.

I'd booked with a AAA rate which included discounted parking and I feel like their site was clear on the parking situation so I just considered it as part of the room cost when I booked and didn't bother getting annoyed about it.

The only thing I really think was missing was that they don't have a pool or jacuzzi which would have been awesome on the unusually hot March weekend, but what can you do with limited space and a city setting?

    Great location, and appropriately appointed

Except for that parking at the Marriott Gaslamp is $40, and there is dirt cheap parking almost across the street, this is a very nice hotel. Location is great, immediately across the street from Petco Park and one block away from 5th street. Lots of good places to eat nearby. Rooms are basic - nothing fancy at all.

So much more character than the Marriott Marquis nearby. Here, the wireless works great. There, the wireless does not work in some rooms, and they cannot get you the help they need to get it fixed.

The room isn't all that fancy and modern like some hotels but it was nice and did it's job.

Location is a couple blocks away from where everything is happening at and that was the only drawback to our stay.

Our family of three (myself, husband and 10 yr old son) spent a long Labor Day weekend in San Diego. We choose this Marriott location for two reasons; close proximity to Petco Park and good reviews.  Overall, our time spent was positive - early check-in, friendly staff, clean facility, decent gym, well stocked bowls of candy at the front desk, perfect location to many restaurants, shopping, ballpark....

Some Cons; Charge for Wi-Fi - most Marriott's (and other hotels) offer free Wi-Fi at no charge despite my being a Marriott rewards member.   When I called the front desk about being a rewards member, I was told that I had to pay the daily fee - I think it was $9.95 a day.

No refrigerator in the room - this is always nice to have in the room especially when you are staying more than 2 nights.

While I agree that the rooftop bar (Altitude) has amazing views of the city and ballpark, the problem is the access to outside guests.  We stayed Thurs-Mon which entailed a long weekend of young partiers waiting to go up to the rooftop bar.  While the hotel managed to have a section of the lobby roped off for rooftop attendees, the line waiting to go up to the bar was very loud and somewhat unruly. After returning from a night ball game, we had to navigate through the busy lobby scene towards the guest elevators. Upon entering the guest elevator, the elevator reserved for the rooftop guests opened and an extremely drunken woman comes off the elevator escorted by two men stumbling and cussing up a storm.  Not a pretty sight especially around kids.  I am not opposed to the Marriott hosting their rooftop bar to young revelers but I think they need to know that families stay at the hotel as well. Maybe a better system needs to be in place so everyone can enjoy the hotel free of such incidents.

We did not need to rent a car so the nightly parking fee was not an issue for us.

Another slight disadvantage is the lack of a pool. Not a big deal but always a welcome activity when you have kids - good way to kill some time.

Overall, the hotel is centrally located, nicely decorated and has friendly staff especially the door/car valet employees - always helpful, friendly, smiling and willingly engaged with guests.

Staff is very helpful at the front desk. Great location. On Saturday nights they have a sky bar which is on their roof top, there is always a line to get up to the bar.

Room service is great you can leave in the morning and come back to a clean room with fresh towels, new soap, etc. The location is great, you're literally surrounded by the best breakfast, lunch, and dinner anywhere in San Diego. All of which are in walking distance including the beautiful outdoor mall which is only a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel.

This is a great hotel that will meet just about any parties accommodations. Tip: go to the San Diego zoo! Now that's something you will have to take a cab to!

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE HERE.  I had booked one room for Thurs - Sun, and another one for Fri - Sun (via hotels.com ).  When I went to check in to the second room on Friday, the manager said that BOTH reservations started on Thurs night, and since we didn't check into the 2nd one on Thurs night, we lost the room and there were NO MORE ROOMS AVAILABLE.

I call hotels.com immediately to complain about it, and then the manager says that all of a sudden there is now a room available!  They're ABSOLUTE LIARS.  The extra room was available the whole time, and they made the mistake in the first place that led to them "releasing it."

Also, one morning we asked the concierge where we could get a breakfast burrito.  It was 11:40 AM, and after she told me the location, I SPECIFICALLY asked if she was sure they still served breakfast burritos.  Once we got to the location, they told us they stop serving burritos after 11 AM.  The concierge is obviously an idiot.

I used to love this hotel because of the location and rooftop bar, but will never go back again.  Avoid at all costs.

This is Avery nice Marriott with a great location. We avoided the expensive parking by just taking Ubers whenever we couldn't walk somewhere (which is a rarity from this hotel).  The lounge on the 21stfloor is small, but has decent amenities like sodas, water, espresso, and a functional (albeit limited) breakfast in the mornings. As for the low positioning of the TV, WHO CARES!?!? You're in San Diego, go outside and walk around! Or go to sleep so you can wake up and.....go outside and walk around!!! :). I've stayed at this Marriott about 7 times. My stays have been due to the following:
    1) SD R&R Marathon the next day,
    2) Partayyy times in the Gaslamp that were meticulously planned,
    3) Partayyy times in the Gaslamp that went later than expected, causing me to miss the last Coaster back on home and resulting in an overnight.

I really like this Marriott, not just because of Altitude (see my review on that).

    Good stuff:

    * Not just the great views, the staff has a great attitude -- and even when you're misbehaving inexcusably (15-20 people in room at 2:30A cranking tunes) they're kind about explaining why other guests might not think it's as much fun
    * Fine location near all the fun 5th ave and East Village haunts
    * You can see into the ballpark and watch the Padres suck live from the upper floors
    * New-ish bathrooms

The downers (i.e., why not 5 stars...)
    * $38 overnight parking (but booking with the AAA rate makes that go away),
    * Odd positioning of TV near the floor means no bedtime or early morning TV for you.
    * Some of the rooms on the lowest floor (6th?) have tiny windows set high up, like it's, I dunno, prison or something.  This is because the back roof with AC equipment comes up to about mid-room level.  I asked nicely & they moved me to something a lot better.  Be forewarned.
    * It can get noisy at times... oh right.

    I'll be back.

Came here last December and booking the room was pretty easy. I love the location, right in the center of Gaslamp so everything is nearly walking distance ( which is wonderful if your in heels or drunk, or  both). As for the service and amenities, there isn't much to say but it was all nice. They weren't rude at all and greeted with a smile, and were on top of things. I did like the the rooftop bar, a great place to start your night before heading out!

I've stayed at this hotel several times and finally remembered to check in and start my review... Here you go!

Location is prime since it is located in the southern section of the Gaslamp district as you all must be aware of since you're here Yelping! Duh... But the real gem of this spot is the view of Petco Park which is on the Southeast corner of K Street from the rooftop lounge. The lounge offers a bar, waiteresses, firepit and dj with room to shake your money maker.
For all you Marriott Rewards holders they offer you concierge service on the 21st floor which includes free breakfast throughout the week and free social hour during the week.
The rooms are great, some offering better views than others of the San Diego skyline and harbor. Some even get you a glimpse inside Petco Park.

The only con to staying at this location is the price of parking which just jumped up to $40  which I think is a little overboard for hotel guests.

So, in the words of the San Diago native Ron Burgundy "Stay Classy San Diego!"

Very clean and spacious room.  Easy to check in.  We were surprised by the shower not working in the morning (the lever to pull up was broken).  We called the front desk and they sent and engineer to fix it during the day, who left a nice chocolate I shape of a wrench with a note.  Very nice touch.

The location of this hotel is prime! It's right by all the cool bars! There is also a rooftop bar which is hard to beat! Although, I thought my beer was kind of warm.

They could use a better parking situation. Valet is $40 per night.

The staff was very friendly. This is the perfect location. My husband and I enjoyed our date night up at the roof top Altitude Lounge. Perfect setting. We sat in the indoor lounge which was perfect because we still could hear the music but low enough to be able to have conversations without having to yell at each other.  The only thing we didn't about our stay was the placement of the tv, we were laying in bed trying to watch tv but it is so low that the blanket kept blocking the veiw lol. Other than that we recommend this location.

    Love love love this hotel!!!

It is right in the heart of downtown, across the street from the ball park, near all the restaurants and bars and close enough to everything else to make it the perfect location!

Rooms were spacious and have fantastic views.

The new GM or manager so someone (I can't remember who she said) loves candy so there are little candy stations all over the front desk with awesome vintage candy and they put candy in your room when you check it!  AWESOME!!  But they don't, or at least didn't, replace the ones in the room if you stay for more than 1 day..  wamp wamp... haha

So on Saturday, my sister and I were taken on a surprise trip to SD for our birthdays! Our bdays are only 5 days apart..ridiculous.

My brother booked the hotel room at the Marriott, and it's in a pretty good area. Near all the venues, restaurants, and literally a walk away from the baseball stadium. We were actually able to see the game and crowd going on! It was nice!

Also...valet parking is $40.00 ..................... what kind of shit is that? Lol. That's CRAZY. But, luckily my bf and I didn't have to pay. o.o shhh..

Overall, the place is decorated really nicely, but the rooms are pretty old..so it seems.

We had a small suite..and I don't even know how 6 of us slept in that room.
My bf and I shared a roll-away bed, my brother and his gf slept on the couch, and my sister and her bf slept in the bed. But overall, no complaints. Minus the valet parking.

We just completed our stay at the Mariott San Diego in the Gaslamp district. Our stay was mediocre at best. The staff were friendly   and helpful enough. Upon arriving in the room, we were disappointed to find how dirty the windows were. You could barely see the view because of this. We were not happy and asked if we could change rooms. The staff kindly accommodated us. The other room we were moved to had the same problem but worse. That was quite a disappointment for us. When we stay at a Marriott, we expect the hotel to live up to it's name. At about 12:30am, there were some rowdy drunk people who woke us up! We were quite unhappy with this. I called the next day and spoke to a staff member who apologized and said she would give us Marriott rewards points because of the inconvenience. The next day, I called for my car to come from the valet. As I got on the freeway, We realized that one of the driver's had actually somehow knocked my left mirror loose and it was falling out!!! I had to then pay to get the mirror fixed for their screw up. Upon check out, the front desk asked - "how was your stay?" We replied it was not up to par, with loud crazy people and filthy windows! She said- "yeah the loudness happens when baseball season is on". I would assume that a hotel with the Marriott name would do it's best to ensure to maintain it's reputation even during game season. There shouldn't have been any excuses at all. Based on this experience, I doubt we would stay here again.

This place was horrible! We had our bikes stored with the bell check, and when we got them the next day they were all scratched up.  They brought our truck to us and would not give us the keys even though we had the claim ticket.  Or friends had stayed here and saw their truck being driven around downtown by the valet people. I will never recommend this place or ever stay here again!

We stayed last night. The staff on hand were great! House keeping sucked though, not the guy working Christmas night but whoever prepared our room. 2 of the pots were HORRIBLE.  One even had like mold inside. The dishwasher wasn't unloaded either.  Maybe my standards are too high but I was a bit bothered by the dirty kitchen.

I also was accidentally double charged. Once through Expedia and again at check out. Hotel is looking to resolve this however.

Parking is valet only and is $40 per nighttttt!!!!

Attended a business meeting April 28 through May 1 in San Diego and stayed at this hotel. The hotel is well appointed and the service was very good. The room was clean and appeared newly remodeled. There is a great Bar on the roof of the hotel and it over looks the Stadium which is next to the hotel. Over all this hotel is a keeper.

Cheap hotel and unprofessional people. I asked for a one king size bed room (traveled for business) and I walk into a double bed room. I called to inquire about the mistake, had me on hold for a long time, and said "sorry". No option given. The room looked shabby, old, and falling apart and the heater didn't work. As I checked out I was charged $40 for valet and $4.75 because I used the phone in the room to make a call to a next-door pizza place. Stupid! I told the front desk rep. Gave me the dirtiest look ever and said that's their policy. Granted it's only $4.75 but really?! The experience is what I'm upset about and the people "in charge". The first desk gal that gave the dirty and was rude and condensing turned out to be the manager in charge - ADRIANA. She was clearly not having a good morning. Will never ever go back. The location is ok, everything else not so great.

Came to the Mariotts based on its location to Petco Stadium and I wasn't disappointed....

Got there really late due to traffic.... Got our room quickly and our bags taken to our room within minutes..and our way to petco to see the Dodgers..

Service was great thoughout the place.,,

    Very nice workers...

On sat I woke up late to the concierge lounge... Actually 2 mins past closing instead of telling me there closed the host ...informed me they would b closing in a few and offered me a to go container!!! Much props.... As i loaded That sucker with the breakfast of champions....bacon and fruit!!!!!!

He saw me struggling with two coffee cups and came to help with a drink carrier... Great service again...
Turn down service with York pepper mints...

Also got a nice desert delivered to our room for my birthday and two bottles of Voss...much needed water and snack after hitting up the bar at Altitude....

We stayed on the 21 st floor and one of the perks of staying was by passing the line to get to the Sky bar....great views of the city and petco park,..

Overall great stay...will def keep this place in mind when we come back....

    Great touches...

Having an extra TV by the Valet stand for World Cup..

With views of Petco Park and the Bridge to Coronado Island, happy hour & dessert hour at the concierge lounge, and friendly & helpful staff, this hotel has a lot going for it.

I stayed here for a week on business and I can honestly say, it's probably one of the best Marriott experiences I've had by far. The staff is extremely friendly and courteous. My room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The appetizer & dessert selection at the concierge lounge included a wide selection of delicious choices (from cookies to tiny eclairs to cake pops) that varied from day to day (I appreciated this since I was there for several days). Not to mention the fact that the hotel is located  within walking distance to several great restaurants in the Gaslamp Quarter.

So why did I give this awesome hotel that has candy at check in 4 out of 5 stars you ask? It can be summed up in one word: parking. Parking at the hotel is valet only (that's right, the hotel itself does not have a self parking option) and at $40 a night, that can add up really quickly. Still, the valet experience was great. I called in for my car about 10-15 minutes ahead of time every morning and my car was always ready for me (that's not always the case at other hotels I've stated at so I found it to be a pleasant surprise)

Overall, I had a great experience at this Marriott and would recommend it for anyone visiting San Diego for business or pleasure.

    This place is ridicules!!!
I would like to start off with the customer service..., it was great but over all the prices are beyond me. We paid over 300 for a so called "suite" which came out looking like a room Frm motel six and I'm talking about size wise!!!! So effen small. I called front desk hoping they made a mistake and noooooo she stated we paid for a stupid phone and chair outside the room and that's why it came out soo pricey. Our statement never said anything about that. Then I called again to ask for a "smoking" room and guy tells no rooms are smoking rooms here and as a matter of fact no hotels have smoking rooms in cali. Excuse my language but WTF!!!! This is effen bs!!!! Plz stay as far aways as possible Frm this place!! Horrible

This Marriott is in a great location, especially if you're going to Petco Park.  The rooftop bar is most popular, long lines at night.  Those are the two main reasons to stay here.  Petco -- it's not just where the pets go, but where the fans go.  And the rooftop view.

The traffic was horrendous so we were greatly relieved when we arrived that it was close to everywhere we wanted to be.  Check in isn't technically until 4 PM so when it's busy, you have to stow your bags.  It does get crowded.

The staff is nice and friendly.  Rooms spacious.  Valet parking is expensive, one major drawback.  And of course, if you intend to arrive/leave close to game time, allow extra time for all the pedestrians and possible street closures.

This hotel is great for out-of-towners when a game is in town.  Directly next to Petco Park.  Service is excellent.

Cons: Mattresses could use an upgrade.  Trays of food, random glasses, etc. in the hallways.

Great place for partying in the Gaslamp.

I would call it a 3.5 given the lack of a laid back hotel bar that is comfortable, mattress condition.

A friend and I booked a room for the weekend.  We called the hotel and asked for a room with 2 doubles on a high floor, and our request was happily accommodated.  The room was spacious and comfortable and had everything we needed.  It was right off the elevator which was a little noisy, but didn't disturb us at all.

We enjoyed the rooftop bar, especially since it has plenty of heaters and a fire pit.  The drinks and apps were a bit pricey outside of happy hour.  We ordered a flatbread at half price during happy hour and it was really good.

The location is great - you can walk to lots of bars, restaurants, and shopping.  I'd definitely stay again.

This is one of the best hotels I've stayed at for a number of reasons:

    1) Centrally located in Gaslamp,  walking distance to the San Diego Convention Center and overlooks Petco Park (if you're lucky, you don't even need to buy a baseball game ticket; just book the right room with a view!)
    2) The rooftop bar is amazing!  Non-hotel guests come here on a regular.  The drinks are good and there are fire pits and plenty of seating available.  You can't beat the view (of Petco Park!), and a lot of good-looking people come here to drink.
    3) Nice amenities, comfortable beds...it's a Marriott!

The only downside is parking is $24, but it is garaged.  And the Wi-Fi is not free.

This Marriott rocks!  Kudos to management - Everyone from the valet, to the front desk, to cleaning staff is friendly, welcoming, polite, and make you feel appreciated for choosing their hotel. I have recommended this hotel to family and friends a few times this past summer. Each and every stay was an exceptional experience for my guest and myself. Perfect location to restaurants, shopping, and local attractions.

I'm really looking forward to spending my birthday in Decemeber at the Marriott. I know everyone will go above and beyond to help me enjoy my stay.

The rooms in this Marriott are top notch.

I did not stay here, but did have a chance to view the lobby, mezzanine, the front and back entrances and a friend's room, and it really is a gorgeous facility.

It is in close proximity to the Convention Center, as well as the Gaslamp Quarter, which has all the local bars and restaurants.

Now that I've previewed the hotel, I definitely want to stay here if given the opportunity.

Pretty nice Marriott! Rooms were clean, good size and didn't feel cramped. Bathroom was nice and clean too. WiFi was about $9-10 per day which isn't too bad. I really have no complaints at all about the hotel! Best part about this hotel is the prime location in Gaslamp District. Walking distance from a lot of restaurants and bars, and right next to Petco Park. I would definitely stay here again if I were ever in SD.

There's also a nice modern rooftop bar (Altitude) on the 22nd floor! Cocktails are decent, you have a nice view of Petco Park, and there's a huge lovely fire pit you can sit around.

Parking: save money and park in a public garage. We parked overnight in one called 6th and K Parkade (cross streets: 6th and K St) and it was only $15! Sure better than spending $40 for hotel parking.

I've been coming to San Diego on and off for work over the last eight years or so, but this was my first time visiting the city purely for pleasure. Being somewhat familiar with the layout of the city and the local area, I knew that the Marriott Gaslamp would be centrally located for me to explore and get around the city. The hotel is a block away from PETCO Park and easy walking distance to the many bars and restaurants of the local neighborhood. Additionally, the hotel is less than a five minute walk from the Gaslamp Quarter Station of the San Diego Trolley, offering you quick and easy access to Little Italy and Old Town. Coronado, Balboa Park, and the airport are roughly a fifteen minute drive away.

The check in process was both friendly and efficient, and the front desk was kind enough to upgrade me to a king suite on a high floor. The room was massive and definitely one of the nicer rooms I've stayed in at a Marriott property. Needless to say the views of PETCO Park and downtown San Diego were awesome! No complaints about the room whatsoever. Although I did not utilize the club lounge other than for morning coffee, I was very impressed with its size and the variety of food and drink items offered which seemed to be better than average for a full-service Marriott.

Quick tip:  Save yourself some money and do not use valet parking! There is a huge parking structure (6th and K parcade) literally across the street which offers much better rates and is more convenient for coming and going.

I would definitely stay here again on my next San Diego trip and would highly recommend it for a first time visitor or someone looking to take in a few Padres games. Although the city has so much more to offer than Gaslamp, this truly is the perfect location from which to explore it all!

We come to the gaslamp every couple months.  This hotel is by far inferior to all of the other 4 atar hotels in the area.
It is 3:30pm and we just got back into our room, it hasnt been cleaned. I just called the front dest and the first ? Out of the receptionist mouth was..."did you leave the do not disturb sign ourside your room"?
When it comes to the service industry, the customer is always right, and we did not leave the sign on the door.
This hotels service is less than mediocre and we will never  stay here again. This happens to be a Sunday and still, lack luster service.

The view was incredible.  We were on the 19th floor and could see across the harbor, the Coronado bridge and Petco park.  It really played a great homage to the beautiful San Diego skyline.

Its right smack dab in the center of the gaslamp so any and everything you could want is within walking distance.

I wish they had bathrobes.  That is the only improvement I could ask for.

We stayed for just one night to attend an event at Petco. The staff was really good. There was a little mixup on checking in but it was straightened out to our satisfaction.

Went to watch the Padres lose and then came back to check out the rooftop bar. We were probably the oldest people there but we had a wonderful time. Decent drinks and great service.

If you need a place to stay for an event at Petco this is absolutely the best place to stay. We're familiar with the Omni which has an entrance directly into the park, but we prefer this hotel.

Note: as with all Marriott properties, it pays to be an Elite member.
