This used to be a great place. Management is horrible. They did absolutely nothing to attempt to satisfy us. One problem after another. Caught the manager in a lie. This is now a place for old farts with fanny packs and murses. We were asked to turn down our music, which was no louder than a TV at 10pm on a Friday night???? If I owned  the hotel, I would promote security officer John to general manager and Reed to assistant. They were the only staff members who made attempts to fulfill our needs.  I have stayed there about 10 times and mentioned it to the manager and he really didn't care. Take my advise and do not stay there. I WILL NEVER STAY  THERE AGAIN! NOT EVEN FOR FREE..Oh yeah  the restaurant service was pathetically slow and we were the only ones there. Fifteen minutes to pour two drinks. Time to clean house and maybe you can salvage a great location and what used to be a cool spot. Like a W hotel..Your staff should stay there a night and learn how a real hotel treats their guests. My thanks to the two employees that were superstars. The rest of you can KICK ROCKS....

Unfortunately, for such a nice hotel this was the worst hotel stay ever! A friend got us a deal on a nice room for our wedding night. She works for the people that also own Tower 23. We got there around 1:00 and being that it was our wedding night and we were exhausted, it made the experience even worse! We were up for about 21/2 more hours and trying to enjoy our first night as a married couple and enjoy the nice room. By 3:30am we were so tired we couldn't stay up any longer. The people in the room next door were partying and I finally could tune them out. Upstairs was a different story. The walls must be super-thin or something, but these people were doing something unexplainable in the room above us! It was like someone lifting furniture and dropping it all at once. I called security and as far as I know, they sent someone up. About 15 minutes later it was a little more quiet. A few minutes later, it sounded like everyone in the room (about 10-15 people) jumped at the same time! It was really crappy and not how I imagined our wedding night to be. Being that we had brunch planned with all of our family (who travelled 2500 miles) the next morning, I made myself go to sleep. The next morning I woke up and tried to enjoy the morning on the ocean view balcony. I opened the door and there was a bunch of broken glasses on the balcony. I was more annoyed and I was going to ask for a little compensation. How ridiculous! A "luxury hotel" that does not have a focus on customer service. They should have checked with us to see if the noise subsided and when I asked about crediting back money, it was like I was a bother. My friend went to her contact and said they would refund some money for us. I still haven't seen it and it's been over a month. Such a shame. Other than the experience, the hotel looks very nice and has nice touches in the rooms, but I will not recommend it or stay there again. Sorry.

This place was perfect!  I was a little scared (and I must admit a snob) when I walked around Pacific Beach.  I was a bit underwhelmed by the under 21 crazy party vibe and wondered where my date was taking me.  But we went to Tower 23 and I have to say my snobby self was quite pleased.  Very modern hotel/lounge/restaurant, all glass, right on the water.  The tables were spread out nicely and the servers were very attentive.  Great fun to people watch!  I had an amazing Pear Martini drink that was too die for and a really great burger.  They have a sushi bar which I didn't partake in because I don't eat sushi but it looked good.  We didn't end up making it to the restaurant but the lounge had great tapas style food and amazing drinks.  Not sure of the prices on everything but I did notice that my martini was $12 so I switched to beer later on to be a somewhat more affordable date!   A local woman from SD equated it to the "downtown" scene in PB.

Talk about deception!! I was stunned when I arrived at this hotel and saw the difference in the photos on their site and the reality. They not only used brilliant lighting and angles but clearly also embellished the photos further with Photoshop. The room was not crisp white but a much dingier version; furniture was Ikea quaility if not worse; the carpet was stained and the room had a faint mold smell. The bathroom looked like commercial grade - they clearly kept the original tubs (small and low). This place was obviously a seedy motel at best before and they thought a little spit shine can suddenly make it 'luxury'? Ha! We were at The London in LA just before this and frequent the Ritz and Four Season so, we know about luxury - this is a far cry. And the service equally poor. The valet didn't seem to know what he was doing and the bell hop actually waited to ride the elevator with us! - instead of getting our bags to our room before we did (like a real luxury hotel would). We stayed less than an hour before realizing the mistake we made. When we went to leave, we were told we'd be charged for that night. We get our bill today and they charged us instead for our second night - which was almost $100 more. I can't understand why anyone who can afford what are outrageous prices for what you get stays here when they can go someplace better. Can't imagine the proximity to the beach is worth an overpriced, crappy hotel room. The only positive I can offer is the view we had from our room: very pretty. But, it should be criminal for this hotel to be allowed to call themselves "luxury".

I thought I would be more impressed but this place is as cool as the previous guests have mentioned. The few things I did not like though was the lack of mouthwash. The time I forget my toothbrush is the time I end up in a hotel room without cheap mouthwash. Good thing there is a Long's Drugs across the street. Secondly, the party downstairs is totally heard from your room on the second floor. And lastly, I would have appreciated a menu of the restaurant downstairs to order room service. Despite the three fretful downfalls, the place is pretty hip! The deck is nice, with a view of the beach. The sun rises into your windows, and my Spirit Pad was very chill and spacious than most hotel rooms I have been too. Would recommend. -Matt

We just spend two nights at Tower 23 Hotel.  It's a gorgeous hotel across from the beach.  Drove down from San Rafael - 11 hour trip on Thanksgiving Wednesday.  Met our kids for dinner at the hotel restaurant JRDN.  Drinks for 4 at the bar prior to dinner.  GREAT!  Dinner at the restaurant:  Appertizer:  seafood platter, cheese plate,  fresh toasted bread - all excellent.  Main courses:  Rib-eye (2 orders) filet (1 order) scallop rissoto (1 order).  After much fork passing decided all were fabulous.  Service was steady, friendly and non-obtrusive.  Caveat:  pretty expensive but after some soul-searching decided definately well worth it.  Now for the hotel room,  we had the partial-beach view room with balcony.  Minimalist decor.  Had that cool San Diego look to it.  TV had issues.  Hotel staff professional.  Will definately stay there again.

It sounded like a good idea at the time. I never hear the end of it how my friends are sick of going out to PB, so I figured Tower 23 would have the feel of a downtown nightclub with the convenience of a PB bar (ie, I wouldn't have to park in that godforsaken Horton Plaza parking structure).
Sounds like a good idea, right? So I went to Tower 23 and caught a glimpse of how the chic minimalist bar overlooks the Pacific Beach board walk. Also, I saw how the guys who go to Tower 23 wear shoes, not flip flops and collared shirts too. I came so close to experiencing Tower 23 for the first time, but a dear friend of mine was barred from the place because the bouncer didn't think she looked 21.
Sure, she had a valid ID and she knew her sign, address and such, but that wasn't enough to dispel the bouncer's notion that my friend with the youngish face was not of age.
So as I was saying, it sounded like a good idea at the time, but I was not fated to go to Tower 23. Where did I end up? Freakin' Typhoon! What went down? Same old, same old ... frat boys hit on me and my friends without offering to buy us thirsty girls drinks.
I don't know if Tower 23 would have been different and I guess I never will.

i went here for dinner about a year ago for a friend's birthday and found the food only okay.  granted they had only been open for a little while, but none in the party were that impressed with the menu.  however, the location is really nice.  i have been there on a date during on a weeknight for drinks only and it is a good location to go to and feel like you are on vacation.  i do agree though that the crowd is a little much.

All I can say is WOW!  This is the way you want to experience SD!  6 stars for the hotel... I mean it was SaaaWEET!  Posh & modern, it was one of those places you didn't want to leave.  We entered our room to find a flat-screen playing soothing grooves and a cool music-synced display, a mini-bar with all you could dream of, a swank bathroom with sea-inspired soaps & colors, and a bed with crisp Egyptian linens complete with a downy duvet... I mean, a room come true!  I'd have to agree the concierge was good to us as well... calling us cabs, taking bags out to our car, and making reservations for us.  The best part is you're right on Pacific Beach by the pier so there is plenty to do.  Of course, the room makes you wish you had nothing to do!  Which we managed to fit in quite nicely.  This place is definitely going to be my go-to-stay spot in SD!

tending towards uber stylish, this bar is in the lobby of a boutique hotel.  nice views and sits on the bluff over the beach for easy access.  unfortunately, it is in the heart of PB so it is awash in closeted tattoo enthusiasts.  hordes of knobs with frosted tips and fancy $25 watches.  reaching unparalleled heights, the striped-shirt quotient may actually have broken the scale.  pray that you do not need to use the sink in the men's lavatory as the primping traffic will leave you feeling like you are standing on the sidelines watching some sort of gender-swapping sci-fi movie.  again, a $12 martini does not stamp your passport "redevance"  - go back to your verizon wireless hut in the mall.  if you feel the need to buy your personality, you'll love tower 23.

This place has very nice decor, a great view, good food (especially the sushi) and stiff drinks, but it is extremely overpriced. The concept is good -- PB was definitely in need of a place to break up the monotony of the same old run-down bars full of drunken college kids, but it just doesn't quite work. It is a fun place to have a drink while watching the sunset or to bring friends from out of town, but be prepared to spend quite a bit more than you would at any of the other bars/restaurants in the area.

    Best French toast in town!

I can only speak about the JRDN restaurant inside the hotel as I never stay at hotel just dine for the amazing French toast. Food and service is excellent if a bit pricey but quite good. The other major bonus is the ocean view of Crystal Pier- priceless!

WORST PLACE/SERVICE I HAVE EVER....I MEAN EVER EXPERIENCED!!  I was EXTREMELY disappointed, especially since the place looks nice.  You would think that with their OVERPRICED meals...you would get some exceptional service.  We waited for over a hour to get our food!!!  We sat down in a party of 4 and waited 30 min....still no food.  We told the waitress that we were on a time crunch....she said she would try to rush it....still no food.  45 min go by.....still no food.  Keep in mind that 4 tables that sat down after us have already gotten their food.  1 hr goes by.....we talk to the mgr.....still no food!  1 hr 15 min go by and we get up to walk out.  We asked to pay for our drinks and then the mgr comes and says..."oh your food is ready".  ARE YOU F*CKING SERIOUS!!???  We tell her that we're pissed and that we're leaving.  To top it off...she had the nerve to ask us....so you're not even going to take your food to go?  HELL THE F*CK NO!  This place is being ran by F*CKING idiots!  7 tables that sat down after us.....got their food before us!  They even said....oh we're real busy that's why the food is taking long.  There was nooooo one sitting inside....and maybe 10 tables outside?  I even asked...what's your excuse for everyone else getting their food before us when we ordered first?  Just a dumb look on her face.  I would rank them a NEGATIVE 5 Stars if I could.  Don't waste your time folks.  Go down the boardwalk to other cool places.

ps:  I never yelp, but this place was soooo bad that I had to register and yelp this.

Ive been here numerous times.  Great place to go for a sunset cocktails .  Every time I've eaten here i've been disappointed.  Just had breakfast here and it was just basically room service, it was ok but if your trying to be a fancy chic hotel you can do much better. If your looking for a good breaksfast tons of way better places.  The one thing that is decent is the sushi.

I feel so spoiled after staying at this hotel, and I'm not sure I will ever want to stay anywhere else when I visit SD in the future.  It's on the beach and walking distance to a ton of shops, restaurants and bars.  Our room was large and clean, and the Tempurpedic bed was amazing!  The staff was super friendly and helpful every single time we encountered them.  I only had breakfast at JRDN downstairs, but it was delicious!  You MUST get the breakfast sandwich, it's the chef's special creation and it was so good I've been craving another since I had it! $10 for a breakfast plate isn't cheap but it's not way overpriced either.  (Other places around were about the same price anyway.)  The coffee on the other hand, is too expensive at $4 a cup.  Next time I'll just drink the free stuff in the lobby.  I'd say the only drawback to this hotel is that there is no pool, but hey, the beach is RIGHT there, so you can't be too upset.  I wouldn't really recommend this place for families with kids, but if you're down to just chill on the sun deck or beach, hit happy hour downstairs, or the plethora of "college-ey" bars a few blocks away, this is the place for you!

SHORT & SWEET: for such a sumptuously-interiored dining room and incredible ocean-front location (not to mention great food), the college-aged, ditzy staff are an embarrassment - once seated, we waited 10 minutes for a greeting and drink order; the food is really, really good however; for lunch try the decadent lobster BLT and the mussels (wow); everyone looked happy with their food, at least from what I could see through the haze of disorderly wait staff scurrying about in complete confusion; 4-5 stars sans staff.

I have nothing but good things to say about this place. Last night as we were enjoying the beautiful view from our balcony, Steve said, "I'm trying to think of something that would make this place better, but I'm coming up blank!"

As for me? Well, I want to marry Tower 23 and have 1000s of little Tower 23 babies.

Having our wedding anniversary during the off-season is awesome because there aren't as many travelers. What exactly does that mean for us? Well, first of all, they upgraded our room. We paid $200 for a room that is supposed to be almost $600. Yes. I know. It's insane. We checked in and the concierge told us, "Happy Anniversary!" Happy anniversary indeed!

Then, about 10 minutes after we checked in a very nice young man came upstairs with a complimentary bottle of champagne and chocolate-dipped strawberries. I can never say no to champagne!!!

We spent Sunday night here and it was very nice. Very chill and laid back. Everything is so perfect, I'm just going to basically list all that is great about this place.

The bed is super comfortable. Down duvet and pillows. The linens are crisp and soft all at the same time. The suite is just beautiful. Everything was spotless. Since we got upgraded to the sanctuary suite, we had this awesome jacuzzi with glowing lights in it and the water... comes from the ceiling. It's totally awesome.  There's a flat screen HD plasma on the wall. Good selection of movies you can pick from. Very reasonably priced mini-bar. This place is right on the beach. We had a beautiful view of the beach and the cool terrace that has this cool/weird firepit that just burns on this sand stuff. I have no idea how it works... It just does. And it's cool, dammit.

What else... OH! The products. The shampoo and conditioner and lotion are to die for. I'm SO stealing them when we check out. Oh yeah! I'm online right now with their free wi-fi. I had to post this now while everything is still fresh in my head.

I love how this place was designed and decorated. It has a very Miami-esque feel, minus the Art Deco. And it smells like orchids. The smell is delicious and it's all over the main areas of the hotel.

We ordered room service for breakfast. You can select your breakfast the night before. Check off everything you want on the menu and hang the card from your doorknob. And at the time you specify, they will show up at your door with your food. Room service is from the restaurant downstairs, JRDN. They include a 18% gratuity on room service orders, which is actually really convenient. The breakfast pricing is not bad at all! And they showed up promptly at 7:30AM, the time I requested on the sheet. The bacon was pretty delicious. The food isn't GREAT, but it's pretty good. And it's really good while you're enjoying it on your balcony in the comfort of your own room. Because you know what? You're really never going to want to leave your room. Really. It's just so sweet.

There's a complimentary USA Today outside your door when you wake up in the morning. And the weather is so nice and mild in SD that you can have the door open all night without it getting too chilly. You can listen to the waves all night. :)

This place would be a PERFECT place for a bachelorette party. You could get a spa treatment, lay out on the beach during the day, eat at JRDN or any of the many restaurants in walking distance and hang out at night. Actually, they have 3 different packages listed on their website, one of which happens to be for a Girls Night Out.

I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Who's got two thumbs and loves Tower 23? This guy! (Gal... whatever.)

Our experience at Tower 23 was amazing.  I went there with my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday.  The hotel is sleek, stylish and boutique.  High-end linens, amazing concierge, beach front - all rooms have at least a partial ocean view and a curtained-in balcony or patio to step onto to enjoy the communal sundeck.  First class all the way without being stuffy or ridiculously expensive.  It's a new hotel, so this could change, but I highly recommend it, if you're looking for a sweet retreat.

Interesting drinks ($10-12), nice ambiance - I'll be back. Their bartender is definitely creative, and the names of the cocktails tempt to try them all! The only thing that stopped me is the constant presence of police in PB. :)
I was not a fan of the appetizers, though. It's not a sushi place for sure, and the choice of everything else is very limited.
The noise level is something you would expect in the lounge. When you go outside, though, it really gets to you!

The location and atmosphere of this place are worth five stars, but I am only giving it three as every time I've come here the service has sucked.  That's not to say that the staff are not friendly - they are, but you can still end up waiting at least 20 minutes to have someone take your order or bring your drink.  For the prices they charge and everything else this place has going for it, they really need to work on that part of their business, but so far they haven't!

The rooms at Tower 23 are very modern, yet have a fun and spunky feel.  You dont stay here for the hotel rooms, you stay at Tower 23 for the location and the cool bar/restaurant/lounge downstairs.  Best patio seating in PacificBeach, right on the boardwalk.  Best place for a date in PB.  Garage parking in PB as well as street parking, need I say more?

This is a comment for the hotel restaurant. Four of us came to have brunch before going to a 1pm show downtown on a Sunday. I can't tell you how the food is because we ended up walking out. Everything took forever - took forever to get a table (despite the fact that we came pretty early and they were'nt packed yet), took forever to take our order, and took forever for our food to come out.

We ordered a round of drinks and waited and waited and waited for our food. We thought we were lucky because as soon as we sat down the place started filling up. Three (that's right three!) groups of people who sat down AFTER we ordered got their food before we did. We didn't order anything fancy - standard stuff off the menu.

We even told the waitress that other people were getting their food before us and that we needed to get going to catch our show. Did us no good. When we saw the third table get their food before us, we all got up, paid for our drinks and walked out.

We talked to the manager who did nothing but give us the excuse that they were busy. Whatever, they got those other people their food. They just couldn't admit that they messed up. She didn't even offer to comp our drinks, that's the least they could do after the crap we went through.

We ended up going to Jack in the Box down the street to get food before our show. At JITB never disappoints.

This place is completely overrated. Terrible, terrible service. I will never go back again and believe me, I've told all my friends about this horrible place.

I was able to go into this nice restaurant (didn't eat anything so can't comment on the food), but I found this great place on the 2nd level to sit on a nice layout-lounge chair with a fire-pit warming up the area.

The  waiter was very cute and provided excellent service and recommended a great beverage (raspberry moito).  I very much enjoyed it......it's a bit pricey, but then again it does have the best view of the beach for any bar/restaurant!!!

I'm at a hotel 3 short blocks away so I decide to check it out.  My first impression walking in around 9:30 was this has some potential.   I found a barstool outside at the bar facing in.  Nice.   The bartender was real friendly and nice.  It started to get a nice little crowd and for a bit it looked like it was going to get crowded but it didn't.   It just maintained a decent little crowd.   Most people appeared to be in their late 20's - late 40's and a nicely dressed crowd.  I would say casual-dressy.   Anyhow, I asked the bartender what time they closed and she said it depends on the crowd.  Wow!  That kind of sucks.   If people know that and they don't live real close then why waste a trip if it might be closed or closing?  That's why I'm giving it only 3 stars.   I think on a Friday or Saturday night it would have a  4 or 5 star potential.

Man what a freakin view my girlfriend had surprised me on my birthday and took me here man it is honestly a great place. Maybe a little pricey but i feel it is definitely worth it. We got a ocean front view room and it ran us about 240+ tax and all that jazz it was really great i mean the people here very helpful and always willing to help. They even hooked it up with some free champagne since it was my birthday definitely can't go wrong for free. Really great place really relaxing definitely worth a visit =)

When this place first popped up in PB I knew it would be perfect for those who want to go to a nice place that is more upscale with a bit of a more mature crow rather than most of what you will find on Garnet. I have ate here as well as been there for happy hour quite a few times. Food is good but pretty small portions for the price. This place is really not "expensive" in regards to SD, however most will say it is because it is in PB. The crowd is usually pretty good.service is OK but still leaves a little to be desired.
If you want downtown feel at the beach this is it!

LAME... you don't let 10 lb dogs on the patio fine, but come on Napoleonic complex door man, you were hardly 11 lbs and they obviously let you on the patio. Get a personality and some customer service training.  You're a door man not MI6 loose the men in black shades and get some manners. RUDE!

I'm hating to do this cause I love the place...usually. But I feel that recently the service has gone down with the servers getting back to you after they've taken your order. Though won't have a problem getting to you after you're done eating and ready to pay the bill and leave them their tip! Maybe it's because they are getting more and more clienteles. The view and the ambiance somewhat makes you forget the pricey (yet tasty) drinks. The food in their dining area is somewhat small in portions for the price (though, guess that leaves plenty of room to drink up) and what kills me is that you can't order sushi if your dining in (guess it's separate management??) and can only order it if your outside or at the sushi bar. So if some of your party wants to sit and eat what's on their dinner menu but you want sushi..then you'd be feeling like me : (. Starting to go to the Firehouse for the ambiance and for my sushi fix, anywhere else but. As I said, I typically like the place especially during the summer nights and Sunday brunches.

Excellent hotel. Although the beach is just steps away, It could have used a pool.

Service was top-notch and very consistent from reservations months out, check-in, room-service, all the way to check-out . I arranged a bachelor party for about 25+ guys - rooms, events in the hotel, bars, etc. and they were very accommodating. I've arranged bachelor parties with other hotels before and have always been treated with a bit of disdain. Tower 23 was professional and understanding, never gave us a hard time. But, we were also "fairly" respectful guests for a bachelor party, I suppose.

I'm looking forward to my next stay at the hotel with the family.

How many different names for this bar are there for review?!?! LMAO
OK so insert: ( Jrdn's Bar, Jordan's Bar, Tower23, Tower 23, Jordan's 23.....) is an incredibly sheik venue, where if you come often enough the staff gets to know you really well and hook you up with amazing service.

It has long been a favorite watering hole where drinks ($6 for Sky?!?!) are hardly expensive for such a trendy bar atmosphere.  The crowd incorporates all walks of life.  I've never seen any problems with the crowd.  I've enjoyed great conversations, celebrated a birthday, and enjoyed some true comedy (too long to go in detail here) at this place.

My only complaint would have to be the early cut off for drinks =(.  The main food dishes left much to be desired.  I haven't tried the sushi, but once I do, I'll let you know how it is.  I've heard it pretty good. '

At one time, they did have some shady people working the doors, but I'm glad it's changed hands.  The bartenders are awesome.  Say hello to Shane or Heather - great bartenders in the their own right.

Bar/food only: Nice place with a modern vibe and a great patio. Good place for drinks, but the food is expensive and sub par at best. The calamari had some kinda sauce and coleslaw on it??? Um, some things are best done the 'old fashion' way. And no need to worry about your cholesterol sky rocketing when ordering the cheese board as it has about two pieces of cheese/meat on it and a couple pretzel nuggets.  If you want an upscale evening in PB this is a good spot, but I suggest just having drinks and enjoying the view.

I love this hotel! It is the perfect place for RnR for couples. The amenities are top notch, and if you stay at The Sanctuary Suite, oh boy.... they have a tub in the mddile of the room, and the views are very relaxing and the vibe is very chill.

The restaurant in th ehotel Jordan is also top notch. They have a great menu for both dinner n lunch. The service is good and the wine list is well thought out. I enjoyed eating dinner then goind up to the "pool" level and smokin a cigar around the fire while watching the ocean. It is very relaxing and a must for any couple just to get away for the weekend.

Now the bad part. The "pool" is really not a "pool". it is like a foot deep and its tehre for decoration purposes, or zen purposes (whatver that's supposed to mean) If this hotel had a nie pool it would truly kick *ss! Otherwise, it is a great place for a couple of days RnR... I have been there twice in just a bit over a year.

Tower 23 is a Miami lounge, right in our backyard.

I really like Tower 23.  The setting decor, ambience, drinks and food make for a very pleasant happy hour after a really shitty day at the office.  The clientele seems to be a mix of people from their late 20's up to their late 40's.  There's a lady who frequents there, that I swear is a pro, but I have no desire to get a soliciation put on my record! lol

The drinks are very reasonably priced, especially during happy hour.  The one sushi dish I had was pretty fresh and tastey.  But at Tower 23 it really is all about the ambiance.  It's laid back, with an upscale feel.

The only thing I don't like is the lack of nearby parking.  If you're going to be there for a long while it's best to valet at the adjacent hotel.  Also, I would like some good music to go along with the atmosphere.

Get there early enough for the sunset!

If it wasn't for Memorial Day, I would never step foot in this place. I mean, for being in PB, I didn't think the posh vibe would work. I was oh-so wrong immediately after throwing our car keys to the valet.

The whole place seemed very modern and WHITE. I loved it. The inside/outside bar was a great idea. I adored the design. It was a sophisticated version of PB living. The refreshing twist was conservative in a unique way. It was something right up my alley....

My friends and I didn't have any problems walking up to the bar and ordering a quick Midori Sour. No ID issues, no fuss, just took the drink back, paid, got my ticket validated and left.

Sure, I only used Tower 23 to get my valet ticket validated, but it also opened doors for another cocktail lounge with an elegant yet laid-back edge. I shall return, and this time I will be staying for longer than 10 minutes. Until then, I shall leave Tower 23 with 3 stars until I return for the *COMPLETE* experience.

Tower 23 is a boutique hotel and restaurant that gives the San Diego Pacific beach community a taste of Miami!
I visited this local design destination recently and was in awe at how the crisp and clean modern architecture was amplified by the application of light. The quality of the lighting design that really surprised me was how it really changed the mood of the space at various times of the day. During the day it felt refreshing while at night it felt romantic and sexy. I would say that the overall feeling I had while visiting Tower 23 would have to be that it transported me into a vacation state of mind, which must have been the goal of the design concept. You truly feel like you are in a South Beach hot spot, weather you have been to Florida before or not!
Ron Neal, of Ron Neal lighting design was hired for this project to bring the architecture to life with light.  The areas in which I believe he was most successful in his design is the way he used light to choreograph the space.  Throughout the hotel and restaurant the light really guides you from place to place, each area bringing a new element to your experience. My favorite application of light was the back wall of the restaurant where the light dances on the textured wall as it changes from color to color.  A phrase I am reminded of as I walked through the hotel is "you must have darkness to have light." This is really a statement that describes the night time outdoor experience on the deck overlooking the ocean where a small wading pool lights up the night with a beautiful purple glow. While there was so much about the hotel that the lighting enhances, it is hard to think of anything that was executed wrong. If I had to pick something that would be my least favorite thing about the design, it would be the pace in which the colored lighting changes colors in the dining areas. Colored light can be peaceful and relaxing, but it does start to give a club atmosphere vibe, and if you don't enjoy eating in an environment like that, then it might be distracting.  In a space that uses of lot of colored changing light, the user of the space really has to have an aesthetic appreciation for it to enjoy it.
Tower 23/JRDN is definitely a place I will return to over and over again to enjoy the lighting atmosphere, bask in the element of escape, and sip on their fabulous pomegranate mojito's!

A friend got a room in this boutique hotel for her birthday on the same floor as the huge patio that overlooks the ocean. The room was modern with frosted glass, me likey. It had a sexy shower with an area to sit on ;-D. Being on the same floor as the patio was convenient as it's a great place to lay down and watch the sunset.

Fun place to have over a dozen or so of your closest friends to drink, relax and party.

why do i feel underdressed in my beachy sundress in a pb bar?

why is that 45 year old wearing a crop top?

why are the bathrooms so swanky?

why is the wall changing colors with the beat of the horrible lounge music?

why isn't the outdoor heater near my table working?

why is that woman who is my mom's age coming over and trying to start conversation with the guys at our table?

why do i feel like i'm in an episode of the real housewives of orange county?

why did the bouncer doubt my real ID?

why are the chairs so surprisingly comfortable yet just plain plastic?

This place is alright.  The bar is modern and the location is excellent.  The food, in my opinion, is just average and the drinks could be a lil stiffer.  I recommend this place for chillin with some friends.  I wouldn't take a first date here.  The guests upstairs can sometimes be loud and obnoxious, and there can be some strange people on the boardwalk.

A very nice upscale hotel, but for the price I was expecting a bit more.  We were mislead about entertainment the hotel was supposed to have ont he 4th, and also didn't have any hot water in our shower.  Something that was very frustrating obviously.  Hot water seems like a necessity for most guests I would imagine?  Was pretty let down knowing we were paying over $400 a night at this place.  Wouldn't stay there again.

Great location and patio. We went there for drinks and sat at the bar. The room is spacious and minimalist. I guess I was expecting the staff to be more artsy and not so fartsy. The bartender had much too much testosterone and seemed like he belongs at the Alpha Beta frat house. Nice guy though and he recommended an excellent vodka - Snow Queen. The price for a vodka tonic was surprisingly only $7 while a beer was $6. A bit confusing but WTF do I know?????

This is for the restaurant. Waited 30 minutes to get a table after having a reservation & we were seated away from everyone on a 2nd patio. The food was very good as well as the drinks. Once we were seated the service was decent. Actually the service could have been better & we were bummed (given this is why we came here) to not have better seating on the patio to people watch (we specifically requested). It's a little spendy, but most nice places are in the area. I would come again, but not in such a large group (there were 6 of us) & I would sit at the outside bar.

So after the Purdue game...I mean after the ass kicking we gave Northern Colorado. A few of the Alumns decided to meet at tower23 Hotel in PB for drinks later that evening.
Typically when I review a place I judge it on three things,  Service, Food and Atmosphere...Ambiance...Vibe...whatever you want to call it

For Food I came too late the Kitchen closed at 9:00 ...bummer

For Service, the bartenders were on it....the drinks were made well, not too strong or watery

For Atmosphere, great place to socialize and meet people. I love the layout and the ocean view. However being my second time there I felt the crowd was a little pretentious especially for PB. Wait a minute for a moment I felt I was downtown... overall great place for a date.

    A solid 3.5

I was thinking I'd be running into the standard rowdy drunk ass PB crowd, but nope, I dare admit I was mistaken. The people here were much too posh for that.

This place was snazzy. The light up wall was entertaining, probably a good trip if your stoned (i wouldn't know but i imagine). The DJ was up on his game; music gave just the right vibe as you walked from the bar onto the outer deck.

HEATING LAMPS, whaaat whaaat! LOVED that. Not to mention the fact that they actually worked (what a concept), unlike most other bars where they've got fifteen heating lamps and only three are in business.

A great view of waves crashing into the sand.
Not that most people even notice, seeing as they tend to be much too busy schmoozing.

Oh and they have bad-ass hand driers in the bathroom. Not those shady ones we are all used to.  These are different. You put your hands (inside) the thing. Too weird to explain, you just gotta see it.

As a venue, I am not impressed.  The lobby is quite small and not nearly as open/comfortable as The Lafayette's lobby in North Park.

I came here for the 944 magazine fashion show.

They did not serve anything vegetarian which made me really sad.  My friend and I did not find out about the open bar until ten minutes before it ended.

Diana and I came to this event together and we both left with digits of these guys whom I cannot remember their names by now.  We hung out with them and they were very nice gents, something neither of us expected from a P.B. crowd.  The whole night I kept asking if anyone knew my buddy George, but alas, no one knew who he was/is.

Tower23 (this is about the hotel only) has one problem that prevents it from being a 5 star experience and that is a split personality.

The room we had was fantastic (it's 322 by the way) with a great view of the ocean but protected by palms.  We loved the simplicity of the design (but hey how about enough light to ready by?) and notice that some of the furniture has already been nicked up quite a bit.  But that is small stuff compared to waking up with the ocean sound and air.

So why a barely four stars?  Tower 23 attracts a loud and shall we say fairly aggressive party crowd on Saturday night.  As much as I like to keep an open mind about people, waking up at 2 am to the sound of my neighbor pounding on his door and telling someone to "open up you f'ing bitch is just not five star living.

Four stars were saved by a smiling receptionist who offered us early check in when we arrived (seriously 4 pm?  with so few rooms?) and the great guys at valet park.

So enjoy the design and the view and the great sun deck on the second floor and bring your ear plugs.  And I don't know who could criticize the bed, it was very very nice.

This is tough because I want to love this place. The pros- cool trendy great location waiter and waitresses for pool deck area very nice and attentive.  Cons- sone employees don't meet the same level of excellence, price on the high side. If employees were better trained would be ok with the cost. With that said some of the front desk staff should go over board in welcoming guests, nothing wrong with displaying a love for what you do sadly i didn't feel it. Was like staff was going through the motions. (biggest issue and almost unforgivable) erroneous charges. When you have a fully stocked mini fridge you should make sure everything is accounted for prior to a new guest arrival. On the second day of a 3 day stay noticed an extra water added to mini bar so I checked my account on the tv and also noticed something else added from restaurant downstairs. Brought both issues up w/ front desk and they removed mini bar charge and other charge but two erroneous charges.... come on.

I've found myself here twice in the previous week drinking, previously I'd been once for a birthday thing. Never had the food, I don't usually "eat". There's a warning label on  the side of Stoli that says "Mixing with food may alter effects". I take those warning labels VERY seriously...although I am also 8 months pregnant right now and write this with my morning Jameson sitting on my belly smoking my menthols...NO NO not really. I had one kid a million years ago and learned my lesson on that shit. I do not recommend EVER having 9 pounds of ANYTHING coming out of your vagina all at once...NO BUENO LADIES! GET A PUPPY INSTEAD.

So their website hasnt been updated on the happy hour specials which is why I went all the way down to Pacific Doucheville to begin with. Actually that combined with sitting at the beach drinkins is awesome. But nonetheless I had random liquor and tried the peach martini thing which was good.

Feels like downtown so that sucks, but it's clean. Expensive, their pear vodka tastes like it was marinating in an old stinky boot...Not that I've never drinken out of an old stinky boot before but  if I'm going to pay $10 for top shelf shit then I prefer it in a chilled glass with ice...Oh free valet in PB is always a plus

San Diego finally has a little variety on the beach.  And I am not just talking about the crowd.

Tower23 is posh and modern.  It compares more to an upscale LA bar than the casual atmosphere typical of PB.  Don't worry, you can still wear your flip-flops, but you may want to dress to impress if you come at night.

They have gourmet cocktails and a fantastic appetizer menu. But it's doubtful that they have $2-you-call-its.

If you want to change it up, go to this urban-style beach bar. This is definitely a good spot to watch the bikini-clad as you sip on your martini.

I love Tower 23! I spent a weekend here with some girlfriends for my bachelorette party (a close friend had stayed there before and recommended it) and I cannot wait to go back. Our room was clean, sleek, and calming. Our patio opened up to the "tower deck" which was so cozy and inviting and provided a beautiful view of the beach. The tower deck had ample seating and space for all the hotel's guests to enjoy it comfortably, and heaters for people like me who get cold easily at night.

Every single person I was there with agreed that the breakfast we had downstairs in the hotel restaurant was one of the best we've had. The chilaquiles were amazing!

The staff at Tower 23 was very accommodating. They happily brought up the excessive amount of luggage we all brought, promptly provided a corkscrew when we needed it, and went above and beyond when we were leaving and had some technical difficulties with my friend's fancy Lexus.

I will be returning to Tower 23 for another lovely trip!

Both the hotel and the restaurant JRDN were unbelievable. Temperpedic beds in the rooms, awesome hotel deck to grab drinks on while watching the sun set. 1/2 bottles of wine on tuesdays- w/ a great wine list. The hotel and restaurant are a little pricy but the amazing service, food, and ambiance are well worth the money.

This is a gorgeous lounge/restaurant. Very euro-inspired, very South Beach, Miami. I had Sunday brunch here with my tall, gorgeous Brazilian friend and she seemed like your ideal patron here. The hostess was very friendly and pleasant and seated us at a nice table outside with a great view of the boardwalk.

I ordered the quiche and it didn't taste like an authentic quiche, tasted like it was probably frozen and not made from scratch, tasted rubbery. The side organic salad was good. My friend had your typical eggs, sausage and toast, shouldv'e stuck with that, my usual.  Looked way better than my quiche.

I would like to come back on a weekend night to their lounge, I'm sure it brings a very gorgeous, sophisticated type crowd.

I brought my girlfriend here for dinner last week letting her think that we were just going to see an old college buddy who i haven't seen in 5 years.   I was in the biggest rush to get there for the sunset which would have been amazing if  it wasn't so cloudy.  We missed the sunset, but   my old buddy Ryan Mathien set us up with the best table on the patio right next to the fire. His reccomendations on food and drinks were perfect.  The Mussels we had for an appetizer were amazing and we had a nice romantic dinner.  The service couldn't have been better, Ryan really knows what he is doing.  After dinner we went upstairs to finish our drinks by the fire.  Cara didnt know I had an engagement ring in my pocket.  It couldn't have been better.  She said yes.  Thanks Ryan.

This weekend (1/22/11) i stayed at Tower 23 in PB. We purchased a Suite for almost 400 outrageous dollars. for a "suite"  a view of their outside area. the regular rooms get the beach view.

anyways, we got into our suite, and it was OKAY nothing too great. the bathroom was neat, as it was suppose to mimic a water fall... but insteand it seemed more like a hose filling the bathtub... pretty annoying.

I agree, the walls are paper thin and the beds are actually extremly firm! but none of that even matters to me, what matters to me was that I WAS A PAYING GUEST, and i was treated horribly. the check in was no big deal, no smile or hello. instead as i was trying to ask a question she interupted me twice assuming what i was saying.

then, later,  coming back from our night out they disarmed my room key and sent someone up behind us. as i was trying to open my door i turned to the man and asked why my key isnt working and his words were... "thats why i'm here so when your done complaining... i will let you into your room" MY ROOM!!! MY $400 ROOM!!!

A few minutes later we called down to see the times of room service and the man told my husband "you need to watch your tone with me" (my husband is NEVER rude to anyone, he's the reason i didnt speak up before!)

then in the morning, we requested an extended check out (an hour later) but sure enough they came knocking on the door asking us to check out. they also asked what we needed refilled in our mini bar (total of about 300 more dollars) which we requested to not have.. and then i had to argue about that in order for them to not charge us and figure out what they did with it.

OH and did i mention that the lights didnt work when we got into the room and they had to send somone in the room to fix it and we had to leave?!?!

even more than that happend but i think this review is long enough...
this place has the WORST customer service i have EVER EVER encountered!!

and save your money... go to the hilton by mission, they have better rooms for cheaper!

*** This review is only for the bar area, not the hotel***

I came by here with some friends a few weeks back. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon in San Diego, I had just gotten back from Cancun the night before, and I felt like another day at the beach was exactly what I needed before returning to work and putting an end to what was quite possibly the best week of my life.

I really like the look of this place. There was plenty of natural light coming in, some cool ambient lighting, and an awesome view of the ocean. The place gave off a chic-ish vibe, without seeming overly douchey. The drink were on the costly side though, especially for PB standards. Gaslamp prices in PB? Now that's douchey.

But, getting past that, I enjoyed myself at Tower23. We had a few drinks, some sushi rolls, and stayed there long enough to catch the sunset. There's nothing better than watching the colors in the sky shift from blue to different shades of red and orange, and eventually a deep blue/purple. It was the perfect way to end the day.

    PS:
There were alot of hot chicks here.

Rule 1: eat before you get here.  The seafood and sushi are great, but yes, a little overpriced.
Rule 2: the only reason to come here is if you want to either people watch (sit on the beach-side of the bar) or hit on typical SoCal socialites (sit on the hotel side of the bar).

That's pretty much it.  The drinks are stiff, so just order a martini or something with a lot of vodka and sip away.  Don't make the same mistake I made and order more than two.  Then you're stuck, and Tower 23 loses much of it's "charm" (and I use the term loosely) after about an hour.

Came here on this past weekend with a couple friends for some lunch/brunch, whatever you wanna call it, and some drinks. It was a beautiful sunny sunday in san diego, and my home girl from LA wanted eat near the beach somewhere, so we opt to come to Tower23.

The place looks real nice and modern! Nice patio area, and nice view. Ambiance is a great, nice furniture and everything. But here's where I knock it. We got to the front, asked for a spot outside, told us that the wait would be 20min.. so we just hit the bar. As we sat there and looked around, there was like 4-5 open tables that would've definitely accommodated us!! That didn't sit too well with us.. But whatever.

We were seated and ordered more drinks and food. I had a Bloody Mary, and the Heirloom Tomato Salad which was pretty darn good. Same for the Bloody Mary.. which came with a nice garnish of cheese, pepperoni, and peperchini's. I also ordered a plate of Calamari for everyone to snack on which was a disaster!

So after it came out, I took my second bite and felt a hard string.. spit it out next to me and the bling caught my eye! It was a fuckin' metal spiral shaving! I was beside myself! Had the waiter (Sean) come out and check it, and when he went to get the manager, I examined the rest of the Calamari, and low and behold - I find another one!!!! I was done with this place... finished up my salad and my drink and we took off.

The Manager only comped our drinks, but I honestly I think he should've took care of our whole meal! But whatever. ... don't know if I'll be back, but who knows... might take some convincing to go back though. And I woul've gave it 3 stars if he woul've took care of the whole check!! LOL!

The rooms are so modern and cozy and the BEST mexican food restaurant is just across the street for a late night dinner. The restaurant and bar are perfect and right on the beach! Lobster mac and cheese, lobster BLT and truffle fries! Yummy!

Grab a bottle of champagne and enjoy it on the deck over looking the ocean curled up by the fire pit. Can't wait to go back!

Tower 23 has a great location, interesting modern design, with a nice bar and restaurant. That is about it.

I had a local friend check out several beachfront hotels in person prior to booking for 4th of July Weekend, and the tower 23 manager pushed us to stay with them, enticing us with a party on the 4th that had been very successful the prior year ...once we checked in we were very surprised to find out that the party was not happening, so our group of friends got the pleasure of standing in line or waiting in traffic everywhere we tried to go on a busy overcast weekend. Also, our room had a broken toilet paper holder, chair with torn upholstery, broken lamp, and a shower that took about 15 minutes to warm up.

The service was fairly good, however every complaint that we made from the icy water and the other issues (admittedly they were small issues, but those shouldn't be a worry at that price), were met with "we'll do better next time" - as though we would ever plan to come back.

The staff tried to make us feel better about our inconveniences, with an 11% credit but it was too little too late.

My mom, sister and a few friends came to SD to visit so I got to benefit from their stay at Tower 23.

The staff was beyond friendly and very accommodating. Sanan (sp?) brought us everything we requested from straws to cut up lemons to 2 big buckets of ice! Yes, we were there to party and they were there to make sure we had a blast.

The rooms were immaculate, fresh towels abundant and the beds...oh my, those beds are comfortable! Be sure to stay on the 2nd floor! Our room opened onto the tower deck. Bloody Mary's in the deck chairs while looking out at the boardwalk and Pacific Ocean in the morning....that's the life! Our dining experience was equally amazing. The food was great and the service attentive and fun.

Mom will be back to SD...and Tower 23 is on the top of her list! I can't wait to "move in" to this wonderful hotel again.

P.S. this hotel is NOT for kids, but for adults who like high-class (without the attitude) service and style.

Pros: The room and hotel was nice.  Everyone was friendly.  The sundeck is open 24 hours, and so is the beach.  The location was great.

Cons: A little pricey ($200 a night), and there was a party crowd right outside our window.

Overall, it's a nice place for a romantic gettaway.  And it's not too bad if you're planning on staying up till 1 or 2 am.

Tower 23 is the type of place one would think would dot the San Diego coastline.  It is a hotel for a young, hip crowd, right on the ocean.  But for some reason, it is kind of the only one.  Also, it is in Pacific Beach, which is a waste land of post-college "taking a year off before I get a job" wasteoids from the Northeast (just look for all the Jeeps with Boston Red Sox or New York Yankee stickers on them).
Once, you get over this, and you will you will be in the swanky Tower Bar.  This is what I am talking about, man.  You have a nice lounge inside and then a nice patio outside.  The bar itself wraps around in a square and is half inside and half outside.  This is a good thing, as sometimes the patio as some places gets a makeshift little bar shoved  in the corner, and then you have to open a new tab, etc.  What a pain.  Bur, not a Tower.  Whether you are inside or out, you get the same good service from the same bar.  Fantastic.
I just wish San-Dog had a few more places like this.

This is a recent find for me.  A couple of friends were raving about this place and they arranged for me to stay here.  I usually stay at La V in La Jolla, The W in downtown, or up at Aviara.   I'll have to add this Ho my rotation, or this might be my La V replacement.  Totally cool spot on the ocean so if you can stay here while on a business trip, you'll feel like you're on a working vacation.

Ate dinner here because it was a raining and didn't want to drive.  I had the jumbo prawns, bacon and egg salad and the short rib.  I topped it all off with a peanut butter and jelly cheesecake (with an Oreo crust).  This was one of my better meals in SD.  Eating all this food saved me from too many drinking too much at the super cool bar.

You'll definitely find me here again.  When the weather is good, I'll be up on the deck enjoying a Cohiba!

The hotel was nice, but the staff wasn't terribly helpful.  We coined the term 'non-cierge' to refer to their bungled attempts to provide us any kind of local guidance.

    - We were in San Diego for a wedding and have spent a lot of time there.  We know the area and were looking to stay on Pacific Beach ("PB") to relive past visits.  Tower 23 appeared to be one of the better options and the rooms looked nice.

    - Our room was nice, but a bit cramped.  The bathroom was pretty tiny.  It was listed as an 'Ocean View' room, but would have required a set of mirrors to do so effectively.

    - Tower 23 is a bit more expensive than others in the area, and given that premium I would expect a pretty good concierge (ala similar hotels at that price point in SoCal, South Beach, etc.).  The concierge's desk was HORRIBLE.  Every question we asked, they didn't know.  Every time they recommended a place, the valet would quickly tell us, "don't go there, go here."

    - We took to calling the front desk the 'non-cierge'.  The best story was that we were looking to go out for a nice dinner and had passed a restaurant down the beach.  We inquired about it - they called and told us that the restaurant, "was completely booked and you should look to go elsewhere."  So much for hooking us up and getting us in!  We then asked the valet, who said that was ludicrous, pulled out his cell phone and made a call.  After that we walked straight in, sat down and had the best seat in the house...

    - Most of the people at the front desk just seemed like they had never done any exploring of the local area or had any concept of what a guest might want on a night out.

    - The hotel common areas are great.  The second floor outdoor lounge area is very nice and the bar service was good.

    - I've seen several comments knocking the restaurant - we thought it was actually pretty good.

Strolling along the busy and bustling Pacific Beach Park boardwalk, you can gaze out upon the magnificent Pacific Ocean while dodging surfers, skateboarders, rollerbladers and tourists on bikes.  It's a San Diego experience every traveler should enjoy. But when you're ready to leave the crowds behind and enjoy an unencumbered view of the ocean, Tower 23 offers a spectacular sight lifting you above the suntanned masses. No, not the lifeguard tower of the same number. Tower 23 is a bright gem of luxury in an already vibrant setting. While establishments along the coast know there's no competing with the majestic ocean to attract its guests, Tower 23 incorporates the best of its surroundings in its architecture, views and decor, leaving guests feeling like they never left the beach when they step into the hotel.

Bright and airy, highlighted with the hues of ocean blue, Tower 23 is sleek and posh at the same time. Accomodated in the Surf Pad, the king-sized Tempur-Pedic Serenity bed, made up with 100% Egyptian cotton linens, was heavenly to sink into. When it got too dark to gaze at the ocean from the balcony, there was a flat screen high-def LCD TV to entertain us. What work we allowed ourselves to do during our stay was aided by the free wi-fi (which is accessible even at the beach). To make your stay even more relaxing, Tower 23 also provides, upon request, in-room massage and spa services.

Walking distance from a variety of cafes, restaurants and bars featuring anything from sushi, curry to burgers, Tower 23 itself houses one of the most popular lounge and restaurants on the beach. No kitschy nautical themes here, JRDN offers relaxed oceanfront dining for a great view of San Diego's beautiful sunset. A contemporary steak & seafood restaurant, JRDN offers an oyster bar as well as a private wine room. If you don't feel like traipsing the few steps  to their main dining room, Sunset Patio or the Tower Deck for some casual Californian cuisine, 24 hour room service is available.

Smack dab in the center of all things San Diego, Tower 23 puts you smack dab in the center of all things San Diego, whether you want to surf, golf, fish off the pier or just cruise the beach.  Baseball caps and visors are availabe in-room for purchase in case you forgot yours (or you just want a memento). When you're done with all that fun, Tower 23 is there to provide a welcome respite. The roomy step-in rain shower is stocked with H2O products and luxurious bathrobes invite guests to lounge and relax.

From friendly and helpful valet and front desk staff,  to  the fully stocked mini-bar that includes personal essentials, drinks as well as snacks, Tower 23 makes sure their guests want for nothing. While there are many inns and hotels to pick from in the area, if you're looking for the complete, luxurious and relaxing San Diego beach hotel experience, Tower 23 is head and shoulders above the rest.

Baby and I did the anniversary here this year and the Tower does not disapoint. Get a Surf Pad with a balcony over the boardwalk, order some room servcie (BEST RS I've had in SD) and get some ocean- motion!
Special ups to the room service staff, Omar and Daniel at check in and Hotel Mgr Tarin (sp?). We mentioned to Omar (who TCOB!) at check in that we were there for the anniversary and within 10 minutes of getting into our room, Tarin was there with a bottle of champagne in the ice bucket! Getting the unexpected is my hallmark of the guest experience!
Minus half a star for not repairng the veneer on the dresser since I was here (in the same room #222) 6 months ago. Another half star for the shitty valet on arrival (4/12/10 at 1pm- the kid didn't bother to help with bags, bikes or boards. He was most interested in getting back to his texts. If not for Daniel I'd have been humpin' my own bags). Except for that blip ,can't wait to come back!

Tower 23 is not really a tower, but it sure is a nice boutique hotel. While staying here I felt right like I was not in the kind of scuzzy skater-frat-boy scene that seems to be Pacific Beach while I was at this hotel. Basically, if you are looking for somewhere that is going to separate you from all that, look no further.

This place is South Beach-esque, and I really liked how modern and calming the decor was. Also, they have these awesome really cool fire pits.. but not normal fire pits. These are sand pits that you can draw in, and then there are gas grates under that make the shapes light up while you enjoy some vino or cocktails at night! Not sure if those have a proper name so just go with it. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

I stayed here with my family, but I would definitely return with friends. All around, this place is delightful.

It's called a Dyson Airblade.  They cost $1400 each.  The website says the air moves at 400 miles an hour.  It doesn't cure the common cold.  It won't make your date more attractive.  But damn if your hands won't be dry, sans chaffing.

Over priced! Unbelievably over priced! Do not stay at the hotel bc it has a cool, posh bar scene. You will get price raped. This hotel looks like a holiday inn express or some other cheap hotel chain that got a major face lift. The rooms try really hard to have a new age look, and the sex kit did make me laugh .. But the room was small and the bathroom sink had difficulty draining. For $300 a night, I expected more.

I love this hotel because the design, layout, and overall atmosphere are great.  Airy, beach-y, exactly what you'd want for a vacation in Pacific Beach.  But....they don't have parking.  I mean free parking.  Every time you go somewhere, you gotta do the valet thing,  Which REALLY adds up.  Don't even think about parking next door at the Smart & Final either, 'cause those guys monitor that lot like hawks.  So 3 stars for you, Tower23.  Because parking is a big fucking deal to me.

I've only been to the restaurant they have...I did not stay at this hotel. It was alright. I went here on a date and it's definitely a good place for a date but... eh, I don't know, it just was okay. The only standout was the prominence of fish on the menu. This hotel follows the marketing strategy of Apple and VW.

Looks nice, but they try and screw you when you need help.
The only people who should stay here are ones who are willing to pay a premium to impress others, or themselves, for overpriced eye candy.

Its funny how some of the 4 and 5 star reviews here, when you read them, are complaining about:

    'paper thin walls'
'they were huffy about the check-in time'
    'the staff was meh.'

So why are you giving so many stars then?!

I guess 'better to look good than to feel good?
Or it helps when company is paying for the $200+/night room? :(

The front desk is a bunch of young kids. They don't seem to know what to do, or what they're doing. Similar to an Apple Genius Bar. They have the professionalism of a student in their first real world job.

When checking out, they told us that the price on our check in agreement was for one night, not the entire stay! WTF?!
Nowhere did it say 'per night' next to any dollar amount.
Wasted about an hour arguing about this.

Long story short, I got all our hundreds of dollars refunded months later by sending copies of my receipts to my credit card bank.
After reviewing the hotel paperwork, they agreed with me that it was deceptive and misleading and they reversed the charges.

Still waiting to see Tower 23 Hotel on an upcoming episode of 20/20 or 60 Minutes.

This place is probably a 2 but pushed up to a 3 only because there really is some talent at this establishment.  It actually can be pretty remarkable.  If you are comfortable throwing on some jeans and a button down shirt with a cumulative MSRP pushing 200 bucks, you may want to try talking to some of those girls.  Otherwise, you might appreciate looking at them while eating at the restaurant or drinking at the bar...

The restaurant: overpriced.  A fairly pretentious menu.  The kind of tiny portions you'd expect after reading the first two detractors.  The food is above average but not to the point where it offsets the other issues.

The bar: not as overpriced as the restaurant but still a little high.  While I don't believe they rigidly enforce a dress code, you will want to err on the side of caution just because that's the kind of place this is.

Overall, not really a horrible place if you're into that sort of scene, it's just not my thing.

Although I still maintain 1 star for my review, I would give this instance that I remember - FIVE STARS! What pray tell?

After being queued 8 deep and finally making our way to the bar, we implemented some tactics to surely catch the eye of the bartend.

"Hey Danette, set that rack up on there!  Show the girls off!"
    I'm trying! I'm trying!

While the strategy of switching into the shorter line was one thing, the tactical display of tits (it was NYE 2008 remember) across the bar was amazing!  And, we thought we were smart. GRRRRR

Parallel to the bar was a single row of hot, well dressed women and their boobage on display with their male friends flashing cash right behind them.

HAHAH Wouldn't you to try to catch the eye of the bartend? Classic.

To be honest I love staying at boutique hotels when I am on business travel and here is a gem in San Diego that I rave about.

The location is actaully Pacific Beach(PB). So if you are a business traveler, ensure you leave business attire in the room.

However, even though PB can be laid back and college oriented (youthful to us old folks), Tower23 and the bar/dining experience Jordan (JRDN) is packed with locals dressed chic.

The staff from check-in to dining to valet and wait staff are exteremely attentive and have a basically 'whatever it takes' attitude.

The rooms are hi-end on the technology side with 42' plasmas, HDTV, XBox, and view view views. The bathrooms have great ameneties such as walk in showers, plush robes, high end soaps ans shampoos, etc.

Check the website for more information - the property has great photos and is true to the image it portrays.

I have stayed here many times and have gotten rates from $159-$219 depending on the date.

Room 212 is my preference as it is considered one of their basic rooms, but it has a great view!!!

So let me start by saying that I am so glad I didn't listen to the negative reviews about Tower 23. This place exceeded my expectations! When my boyfriend lived in SD a few years ago, we always said we would stay at this hotel when we would come to visit because it was right on the beach and just beautiful.  Lucky me, my boyfriend booked this hotel as a surprise! I was completely thrown off when I read the reviews though.  But, here's our experience.

We called in advance to ask for an early check-in, as our flight arrived at 8 am,  and they were absolutely accommodating! We were able to have breakfast and check in by noon.  The hotel is beautiful and the decor is truly breath-taking!  The room was immaculately clean and "crisp!" Extremely comfortable bed and pillows. Amazing views all around from our room. We were on the second floor so we had immediate access to the second floor patio area (loungers, fire-pits and outdoor sofas) which also makes for a great romantic late night drink and cuddling area (there are servers from the bar who attend to this area as well).  The staff was amazing and very friendly, completely opposite of what I've read in some reviews. From the front desk, to the patio servers, to the house keepers, etc....all were extremely professional and courteous!

JRDN-The indoor/outdoor bar/restaurant was Excellent with the best ocean front views!!!  Happy hour was a must!  Ceviche Tostadas and the Chorizo Mussels were mouth watering, my boyfriend and I ordered seconds!!!  The cocktails were delicious and a very tasty wine selection.  I must also compliment the bartenders!!!  They were fast, efficient, friendly and courteous!  As popular as this bar gets at happy hour, these bartenders still maintained professionalism and a smile!  Julio was our favorite! They were also very knowledgeable of the restaurants menu and made excellent recommendations.  JRDN the restaurant was excellent and the staff was just as fabulous!

All in all, this was a pretty amazing hotel/experience!  I highly recommend it. I enjoyed every minute of my stay and will return to this hotel everytime I come to visit San Diego again!

on a side note:  Great bike rental place across the street, bike riding is the best mode of transportation in pacific beach.

I stayed here with my family which consists of two young girls.  The staff are very nice and the laid back atmosphere is amazing.  The girl who works on their tower deck brought my girls blankets so they would not be cold watching the sunset.  We talked with her for quite awhile and she made us feel like we were at home.

The food was alright from the restaurant.  The lobster BLT tasted a bit too fishy and our steaks were cold at dinner.  Our server also seemed VERY hungover and uninterested in answering any of our questions.  I would suggest eating elsewhere...it wasn't worth the price at all.

I will return for the beach and beautiful views.  Having appetizers and a drink while watching the sunset on the tower deck made my stay all worth the while.

P.S. PLEASE install a key card on the 3rd floor entrance...most annoying thing by far!!!

Probably my favorite place to sit back and relax in PB.  Cannot beat the outdoor fireplace and the amazing drink service.  I'm surprised not as many people venture to the patio, but hey I won't complain about that!

A fantastic boutique hotel on the beach. I stayed in their surf pad for 2 nights. The check in was smooth and the staff very friendly (they even give you a complimentary welcome cocktail!). The room was spacious, clean and had a spectacular view of the ocean. You could just stay in, and watch the ocean and surfers the whole day if you wanted to. There is no need to be anywhere else but here for sunset. You can view the pacific beach sunset sitting in the comfort of your balcony, and each sunset was unique and beautiful!  The restaurant room service was great. The french toast and the JRDN breakfast were made well, and brought in by friendly staff.  Try to get a room on the third floor as the second floor can get noisy with the restaurant downstairs. Wifi was free. It would have been nice if there was free parking in the open lot for the hotel guests. Valet parking was a bit much (and the only reason for not giving this place 5 stars). Over all a GREAT stay and I will go back to this hotel if I visit San Diego.

Disclaimer:  My hotel stay was a couple years ago.  I've been back many times to the restaurant since though.

I had an AMAZING experience staying here for a special romantic weekend with my boyfriend before he left for one of his many stints out of state.  We absolutely loved our room and its modern, beachy decor.  Our sliding door opened right out onto the sun deck which has a stunning view of Crystal Pier and the ocean.  Also plenty of lounge chairs, heat lamps, and a fire pit (any SD person knows that no matter how warm the days are there can be a chill by the water at night).  The only downside to this area is I wish it had a pool and/or hot tub, but hey the beach is within spitting distance so can't really complain about that.

We had a great meal and above-and-beyond service at JRDN, where you have to try hard to not have a stunning view from your table (it's right on the boardwalk).  We wanted dessert and mentioned to the waiter we kind of wanted to check out the cozy firepit upstairs and he offered to have our dessert delivered up to the sundeck without even batting an eye.  So we went up there and opened our own bottle of champagne (again not a peep from any staff about this) and enjoyed our delicious dessert and some bubbly cozied up by the fire pit overlooking the water.  I could not have asked for anything more perfect.

They also allowed us late check-in, and they have free valet.  We left with the impression that we were king and queen and should be waited on and allowed to do whatever we want wherever we go.  They spoiled us rotten, and we loved every second of it.

Since this stay I have had brunch at JRDN a handful of times and think it's the perfect spot to sit in the sun by the beach and have a somewhat fancy brunch or lunch -- it's definitely not the cheapest meal around PB but if you're ok with that it's great.  You're paying for the great decor and primo location, which I don't mind.

We could not have been happier with our stay at Tower 23!  We had two rooms...mine was the spirit pad which had easy access to the super nice patio with a view of the ocean!

We started our stay with the complementary welcome cocktail, which was a delicious rum drink (and I don't even care for rum)!

Beds were temperpedic and oh so comfy!!

All of the staff members were friendly and helpful, and didn't seem to mind our requests for fresh glasses, bandaids, etc :-)

When we ordered some snacks on the patio, they were delish!  Truffle fries and the creamiest mac and cheese ever!!!

I recently stayed here for a week with a friend.  Pacific Beach has a college town vibe and Tower 23 seems a little out of place in the environment.  That being said, the hotel is clean and attractive and an ideal place if you don't want a beach motel.  The room was comfortable, but not nearly as upscale as it wants to be.  Great location and offers accommodating perks in general.  JRDN's menu and food was amazing!  Best meal I have had in a long time.

Our biggest complaint was about the service.  Everyone was friendly, but the staff at the front desk knew NOTHING about the area.  We were visiting from Washington, DC and had never been in the area before.  We asked for recommendations for dinners out.  Casual was fine, but we just wanted a few good suggestions.  We asked one gentlemen who could not tell us anything.  He grabbed another guy from the back.  He couldn't tell us anything either.  Finally, a third staffer came along who mentioned two restaurants then proceeded to give us random, confusing walking directions on how to get there--he mentioned side streets and landmarks  we had never heard of.  Finally, I asked him if he had a map and belatedly, he pulled one out.  By the way, the restaurant he suggested (World's Famous) as the best one around was "meh."

Any other time we asked for guidance on where to go or how to get somewhere, the front desk staff went on Yelp to find the answer.  They had to look up ratings to tell us which location was the most favorable.  Do these people ever leave the hotel?  Thankfully, we ran into an old friend who made great suggestions for us.   Eventually we stopped asking and went on Yelp ourselves.

Also, this isn't a huge deal--just baffling.  On our second day, one particularly friendly staff member greeted and chatted with us and asked us if it was our last day.  We told her no and that we would be at the hotel for a week.  She saw us three more times during the week and asked us each time if it was our last day.  Huh?  I guess I don't expect her to memorize each guest's plans, but we found it odd that she keep asking us the same question each time she saw us.  Maybe she should add new guest questions to the repertoire.

Another issue came up when we ate at JRDN restaurant.  We had dinner on what appeared to be a pretty slow night.  Numerous tables around us were empty, but it took forever to get seated (we had reservations) and served.  At dinner, my friend had flat water and I had sparkling water.  They served me the wrong type of water three times.  Huh?  Again, not a huge deal, but for the prices, I guess I expected better service.  The front desk crew really took the cake, however.  Management really needs to address the front desk staff.

Went there for some drinks and small food. We are all students, so we didn't go to the real restaurant. It was to expensive. We ordered non-alcoholic drinks (because we were driving) and got some great mojito's. I som great pita bread with hummus and garlic-dipp. It was very nice, and only 10$. The location was perfect and the staff nice. All in all a great place to drink drinks and eat light.

Great place to come have a beer or 2 or for those that want something sweet do not miss there Mojitos and the view is just perfect.  Right in fron of the beach and you can also see all the people stroll by the boardwalk.  The food is very good as well, from the Ceviche to the Mussels to even the sushi.  Also another great thing about Tower 23 is that they have Happy Hour on Saturday's from 7-9pm which is awesome with $4 Well Drinks served with above average liquour.  Also Valet Parking is free for 3 hours, and that is great since it is hard to find parking in PB.

Stayed here Sunday-Thursday last week.  The hotel itself is very clean and the location is fabulous.  We had a ocean front room and the view was spectacular.  Great people watching off the balcony. The room was clean.  Not a fan of the sliding bathroom door.  It doesn't provide too much privacy, but it's workable.  Housekeeping was great, no issues.  Parking is very tight at this hotel. Valet will cost you $20/day, but they did a great job.  Never waited more than a couple minutes for the car.  I wish they had a better sign on where to go when checking in.  They need to improve this.  When we were trying to check in they had the Garage Full sign up and we were like, ok now what do we do.  Not knowing that they always have spaces for the hotel guests.  The front desk was great, they brought us up 2 complimentary drinks as soon as we checked into our room ,that was cool.  I guess by biggest complaint is that they advertise room service.  The frist time we tried to order a burger they lost our order.  45 minutes later they called and apologized and brought it right up and comped it.  Second time, we were trying to order something off the dinner menu and they were supposed to call us back.  Never happened. We called again, they were suppose to have a manger call back but we gave up and I walked around the corner to Buddies Burgers and grabbed something.  Ultimately, the location is awesome and there is so much to do in the neighborhood.  It's a small hotel, but great place to stay if you want to walk everywhere.

My wife and I just spent a full week there and we loved everything about it.  The staff was very helpful and friendly.  Most mornings we ate breakfast in the hotel and thought the food we pretty good.

The room was very spacious and clean.  The jacuzzin in the room was an added benefit.

The location was a big + for me as it is right on the running/ biking path.  There is also plenty of people watching to be done.  I was amuzed watching these 2 kids peforming bike stunts one morning.

The valet parking was great.  Before we got there, I did not think this would be that big of a deal.  After seeing how limited he parking is, I was very happy this was included.

When we head back to the area, we will be staying at the hotel again.

I grew up a few blocks away from Tower23 back when Pacific Beach had NO swanky and hip bars, hotels--or anything for that matter. And while I hope that P.B. stays laid back in its own beach chic way, I conclude that Tower23 was a classy addition to the community. The overall design is clean and modern, without being too posh (you'll find no bikini-clad model hanging out in a fish tank behind reception a la The Standard). If you don't like ninety-degree angles or don't appreciate the simplicity of a bare white wall, the design won't be for you, but I find it to be a peaceful middle ground between grungy Mission Bay Ave. and beautiful Pacific Ocean views.

The rooms are on the small side, but let's face it--people don't come here to stay in their rooms. They're there for the downstairs bar scene, the one-minute walk to Garnet's bars, the patios and balconies all facing the ocean (and one another), and of course the beach. The cocktails are on the steep side--both in alcohol content and price--but again, you're paying for the more upscale scene and oceanfront seating. Cadillac margaritas are deadly (in the sense, that you won't want to stop drinking them they're so good).

During the evenings, the bar may be infiltrated by twenty-something co-eds decked out in Vegas attire, making the overall evening vibe "wannabe sceney." But, if you want to escape the masses downstairs, head upstairs to one of the lounges surrounding the gas fire pits. As long as you keep ordering drinks, no one will bug you! Come here for drinks and the view; keep the kids away; and if you don't have to be in the midst of "the scene," you may opt to not actually stay here (it's pricey)--so just drink here.

Service was great. We had a red head server that was excellent. He was attentive and made sure we were happy. The outdoor patio is my favorite but the medal tables burned my arm. I actually came home with burns from the hot table. That being said the strawberry salad was outstanding and the view is perfect. We only spent about $40 bucks for salad and cocktails so the price was ok too. I would go again for sure. Just have to wear a long sleeve shirt next time.

Very nice... enjoyed our 3 night stay, great location, great layout, hip and cool [without the pretentiousness usually attached to such places] great rooms or pods as they are called, bar was fun and the staff was friendly, only reason for not giving it 5 stars was a blonde bartender who managed to lose my room charge card between my bar seat and the cash register [20 feet] .. not really look for it... and then casually said... 'well you can always get another one tomorrow.... Great honey...  but I was more concerned it might end up in someone else's hands and i'd get stuck paying for someone's all nighter.... [ had to cancel myself at concierge].

It lacks in facilities, Pool, Gym ,Spa...but it's location on the beach and it's proximity to La Jolla, the boradwalk and Mission bay can't be beat...

Wasn't  enticed to try the restaurant, no lure or incentive....i.e... free drink... free app/tapa.. as a guest.... so we never ate there... but in a few of the surrounding higher end ones... that being said, I'll  probably be back...

I got a serenity pad, which overlooked the deck and out onto the ocean. DIVINE! I wouldn't say this is the nicest or grandest hotel I've stayed in, however for just over $200 for a weeknight, I thought the price was right (I've looked into booking some nights this summer, but the prices have doubled, so for me, not worth it. I'll wait til the off-season thank you very much, and book myself at a fancy hotel for $400+ per night).
Anyhoo, the vibe is just awesome, and I loved sitting out on the rooftop deck having cocktails and people-watching. The room was very clean and airy, staff was great, and $20 for overnight valet parking is unbeatable!
I've dined at JRDN several times, and there are some good things on the menu, but it needs an overhaul. Seems to me most things have been on the menu for YEARS, mix it up!

Definitely have to take off a star after my last stay, which I DID spend $400 for a single night against my better judgement. Service was quite poor this time around. Left my bag at the front desk while they prepared my room, and after returning and checking in, it took 30 minutes for someone to bring it upstairs. I had to call the front desk twice about it. They had also offered us welcome cocktails, which did not come. The guy that brought the bag asked if we still wanted them (uh, yeah!) but did not come back during the next 30 minutes it took us to shower and leave - we had things to do!

Had dinner as well, and service was really just so-so, and it wasn't very busy at all. Just seemed like our server didn't really notice us.

Not worth the money this time. Blah. Could've stayed in much higher end digs in LJ. No beach, but could've had a nice pool and amazing service.

Tower23 is an amazing place. They basically try to make everyone feel like a celebrity with the amenities they provide, from the bath robes to the glass shower, to the fire pit overlooking the ocean, to the latex memory foam mattresses.

When you first look at the hotel, it looks as if it is a storage building because you can look at the room doors from the parking lots, but once you get inside, it is a completely different feel. The staff is very helpful with trying to find places to go out and eat or drink.

The rooms are beautiful. Like I said before, the mattresses are latex memory foam, which are extremely comfortable and relaxing. The bathroom is very modern with a glass swing door, a rainfall showerhead, and a seat. Every room also has a patio or balcony outside the door where you can overlook the ocean.

Outside in the courtyard, is a large firepit that is ignited every night around dusk. Every night we stayed, people were out there hanging out from sunset, which you can watch over the ocean, till later in the night.

We weren't able to visit the bar at night, or the restaurant since both were pretty expensive, but they looked very nice from a walking by. The TV was also a bit of a problem in my room, since it was slow and didn't get a few channels. The parking is expensive ($20 a night) but you can easily dodge that by parking on the street, but watch the signs to know where to park and when.

I will definitely be back to Tower23 if I ever go back to San Diego. It is expensive, but you can't always feel like a millionaire when you are on vacation, and Tower23 does its best to do that.

Stayed here for two nights in the Surf Pad on the third floor.  The room was immaculate.  We had a large balcony looking right out to the ocean.  IMO our room (307) was basically the best you could get.  We slept with our balcony door open and listened to the waves crash each night.  In the mornings, we watched the surfers.

The location is ideal - we walked to everyything!
    Superior customer service.

Couple of nit picks- no HD TV in the room, no pool and no gym/fitness center.  The hotel has a beautiful sun deck and sits on a running/walking route along the beach so, like I said, I'm just being picky.

Absolutely recommend if you are looking for a hotel in PB.

TIP: At night you can choose from off of both  the bar and restaurant menus if you sit at the bar top (best seats in the house if you ask me and the bartenders are always a good time).

To start - probably one of the best views in the PB area for sunset.

Food is delicious and new menu items are changed about every 4 months-ish. House cocktails are well worth the visit - in-house infused liquors and great recipes as the compliment.

Brunch is casual with dinner being a little more formal; however there is a bar lounge that is semi-casual at night in case you're not looking to get too dressed up.

This is our go to place to take out of town business contacts or friends. Three free hours of valet parking with validation. One of the best locations for people/sunset watching. And, best of all, great food and drinks.

Wednesday night my wife had a business associate she was meeting. She suggested Tower 23. We met him and enjoyed a very nice $5 Chard on happy hour prices while watching the sunset.

For dinner we were seated outside overlooking the boardwalk.  I had the chef's soup of the day. A fantastic bean soup flavored with a faint middle eastern spice and bits of lamb and spinach. Really good.  Our friend had the make it yourself salad. You pick the greens, up to five additions (croutons, blue cheese, pine nuts, etc) and the dressing. He really enjoyed the novelty of filling out the paper form and creating his own medley of flavors. For the main I had scallops and risotto. Unlike the plates often served at Hell's Kitchen, my scallops and risotto were perfectly cooked. My wife had the double pork chop. She chose a rub from the many selections and ordered it medium rare. It came out exactly as ordered.

Overall a great meal and a great setting. Prices were fairly high but overall well worth it.

    Thank you!

There wasn't much to choose from for lunch on a monday for picky people.

The cheese plate was pretty good. Meats on it too would have been better.

I came into town to visit a friend who recently moved to California, specifically Pacific Beach.  We both enjoy a good restaurant, maybe we could be called "foodies", so he took a recommendation from a friend and we went for dinner.

After managing casual fine dining restaurants for the past few years, I get to be very critical, it comes naturally, I wish it didn't happen.  So, obviously the ambiance is awesome.. on the beach, cute furniture, clean, heaters on the patio, all you could ask for.  Our server, I think Julianne?, was spectacular.  She knew the menu, had amazing recommendations, very friendly, not overbearing.  She honestly made the experience.  We ordered the mussels and pork belly for apps, per her rec, and they were absolutely delicious.  We then shared a filet, JRDN rub and peppercorn, again per her rec, and the bass.  Superb dishes.  The bass could have used a pinch of salt, but I'm not a food critic.

This place delivered.  I may have been more critical of the food had our server not been so awesome.  It's amazing how service makes the dining experience. I told the hostess to let the manager know how great the server and food was, I hope she did.

I think the first thing I said to my friend was, "if and when I open a restaurant, she would be the first person I hire".  I hope I can find her if that ever happens.  I'll go back there when I am back visiting.  I may even go again before I leave...

From top to bottom we could not have had a better experience having our wedding at Tower23. Every single person who was there was blown away by the beautiful setting, the great service and the amazing food.

All of our out of town guests stayed at the hotel (44 rooms) so we pretty much had the run of the entire hotel on Saturday. Everyone loved their rooms, I think every one has at least a partial ocean view. The courtyard/ sunset deck area was perfect for the wedding, but was also great for family and friend to congregate over the course of the weekend.

It will be a day we will remember for the rest of our lives and I cannot thank them enough for going out of the way to make it so special.

Room Tip: The suites have very cool tubs that fill from the ceiling, we stayed in an ocean front suite, and it was spectacular.

This is a great place to stay in PB.  Right on the water and right next to Kono's for that breakfast thing.  Everyone walks or bikes past this place.  Couldn't ask for a better location.  Everything is hip here, you pay the price but you do get what you pay for.

Amazing place to stay. The suite I was in had the coolest jacuzzi ever.
The staff was amazing, the hotel was super clean. The patio overlooked the ocean but was separate from the sidewalk.

The young man who checked me in, whose name I forget (tall, skinny, spiky hair) was a delight and delicious! I would have loved for him to come join me in my jacuzzi.

My wonderful sister treated me to dinner and drinks...at first I was hesitant because I had only been here before at the bar quite late on a week day and the experience wasnt that great.....
But this time...oh !!! Let me tell you
    Drinks:
    We had :
-Gin cucumber : uber fresh and delish
-Mojito: perfect tart flavor and not too sweet
-Guava cocktail: mmmmm yum yum yum

    Dinner:
-We shared the ahi tuna carpacio....they were launching their summer menu, so some of the items we were craving were not there. We took a chance and it was to die for!!!!! 4 thick slices covered by amaranto and serrano chiles with a medly of mixed greens and cilantro. Too bad there were only four slices

-Sis had the sirloin skirt with spinach gnochi and zuchini. It was delish....I adored and ate half of her gnochi

-I had the scallops with a thin slice of chorizo on top. They were a bit flat but the chorizo was interesting and crunchy .....wish I had ordered a huge side of gnochi nom nom nom

    Dessert
    OMG: Creme brulee.........perfect. just delightful

    Could improve:
bar area was way too crowded and had too beg for drinks before dinner
the bread basket was totally uninspiring
the sauce on the scallops was void of any personality
    the prices were def steep

Will be back for sure with a date or a group of friends
    Loved it

We had an amazing getaway weekend (during the week) at Tower 23 - really a remarkable hotel. High style and 6 star service. We enjoyed the 'Surf Pad' which is full on oceanfront, great views and the smells and sound of the surf - the rooms are beautiful (fine 'hotel sheets' and great bed).
When my wife has a getaway weekend planned, leaving the hotel is optional, we did to ride bikes, walk the beach and have breakfast on the pier, other than that - why leave?
This is such a great place, it's almost out of tune with Pacific Beach which seemed to be teeming with the scruffy surfer/skater crowd that wasn't really all 20 something kids, but that's the charm of the town.
We had trouble with the wifi and they dispatched two engineers with a new cisco wireless router for the room - in about 5 minutes. We asked some random employee in the hall about towels for the beach and he stopped what he was doing and went off to get us a stack - quite nice really! That level of service was our consistent experience throughout. A high note was a guy named Conner who works room service and at the restaurant (JRDN - pronounced Jordan) - he was spot on with recommendations and refills and then even got us into the restaurant on 30 minutes notice when the hostess said they were booked up, even for hotel guests. He saved the night for us - something we found odd; the hostess said 'all booked' and yet the two tables next to us were never seated at all, so they were actually not all booked - why would she say that? JRDN has darn good food and an amazing setting and view although pricy, it was a treat!
All in all, highly recommended - we will certainly be back.

The restaurant/bar is awesome with a great view of the PB Boardwalk outside. Inside the restaurant is nice, modern & lounge-like. In the evening for dinner time on weekends the attire is a bit more nice, but for lunch there is anywhere from exercise wear & tennis shoes to jeans & heels. The food is very good albeit not excellent. Have visited on several occasions; ordered ceviche tostadas (the best on menu), truffle fries, burger (really good), sandwich (wouldn't have again), fried calamari (always taste the same) & drinks are good (mimosas w various different juices, bloody mary etc.). Service is okay. Hostess @ entrance tend 2b uptight & rude every time we have been there. Getting a table outside will take a while on weekends (i.e. 40 min), but nice bar inside 4 cocktails in the meantime. Get ready 2 enjoy a great view, look @ pretty people, stay 4 hours & pay a hefty bill! Totally worth the wait & the bill w that view!

Tower 23 was perfect. Best quality, service, food, and view in pb hands down. They greet you with a complimentary cocktail, and since it was my girlfriends birthday they gave us a complimentary dessert. Very nice staff and very prompt.  I would recommended this hotel to anyone planning on staying in pb if they want the best possible experience.
Now the restaurant, a lot of people tell you a bit pricy in their review,  and it is, but you get what you pay for. I had the rib eye, and it was perfect, right up there with a Morton's steak. So all in all, a perfect trip.

    Love the view!
    Love that they have parking!
Service can be great, or not so great.
Lately the food has been just ok. I take A LOT of clients here for lunch and it is nice that they have a rotating menu of seasonal items.  I personally feel they need a few more salad choices. Not everyone likes raw fish salad. Other than that I think they have a Caesar ...
I had the "special " today, which was a shrimp dish, which I believe had all of 3 shrimp, for 18.00. Not enough food, especially for the price.
Wine list  by the glass is just so so.

So there you have it, the good and the bad. Enjoy a beer and the view.

    This hotel is beautiful.

When we arrived our room wasn't ready but luckily they have JRDN restaurant with top of the line food and drinks! we were able to catch the Laker game since they have several t.v's surrounding the bar.  Staff was very attentive and nice.  I also liked the fact that they played lounge music the entire time.  To drink I had the pomegranated champagne and mango margarita, both were very strong and deelish!

Rooms were very comfy and contemporary. Outside our balcony was the view of the beach and the beautiful bond fires from the hotel.

I enjoyed my stay very much!

Disclaimer: This review is strictly for HH at JRDN (The restaurant at Tower 23).

$6 drafts (Racer 5 IPA, Stone IPA, Coronado Pale Ale, Franziskaner Hefeweisen, etc) and $7 gourmet appetizers. SCORE!

Tower 23 is right on the beach with glass protectors so it's never windy when you're sitting outside. There are also heat lamps if it's chilly. It's the perfect place to watch the sunset during HH (bring sunglasses). It's absolutely gorgeous! Or if you'd prefer to people watch, there are dog-walkers, (hot) runners without shirts, mamas with babies in tow, and lovebirds strolling around hand in hand. It's quite a busy boardwalk.

    What we ate:
Ceviche - Could have used a bit more kick. I like my ceviche a little spicy. They put their ceviche on 3 delicately fried baby tortillas topped with shredded lettuce, cheese and tapatio. Pretty good.

Mussels - Generous portion for $7! They give you a whole big bowl of mussels sitting in a tomato-base, soupy sauce filled with onions, stewed tomatoes and andouille sausage. Two slices of perfectly crispy garlic bread on top. Delicious.

Empanadas - 3 pastries generously filled and covered in an amazing semi-sweet sauce. This, by far, is the winner.

Love this place, dislike PB. But I can't wait to go back. You must check this place out!

Tower23 Hotel is the only place in PB that I'll set foot in...there's a crowd with actual class, drinks with over "buy 1 get 5 free" quality, and posh décor - I forget that I'm in grungy Peasant Beach all together!

The last time I was here, I was part of a private party in a room with glass walls and an ocean view during sunset. The set up was fabulous! Open bar, catered small bites, and swanky music. Definitely one of the trendiest engagement parties I've attended!

I highly recommend Tower23 for a date night or place to start (or cap) the night.

Oh, and parking is a breeze!

This is my go-to place to stay in SD.  Right on the beach in PB, its a great little hotel that is kind of tucked away.  It's definitely on the trendy side, but it doesn't enter the "Douche Zone."  The rooms are cool and have views that range from "ok, I can see the water" to "holy sh-t, I'm on the beach!"  They have a nice courtyard that has great views and gets plenty of sun.  JRDN, despite its lack of vowels, is a really good restaurant, again with great views and people watching.  A side note:  who the hell knew that there were that many people that could roller skate on one leg while only wearing a short pair off acid washed jorts?  Anyway, back to the restaurant- their risotto is hard to beat.  It's worth a visit for at least a drink.  The area around Tower 23 isn't as high end as La Jolla, but if you are looking for that, its just a short drive away.  I, personally, think think the area around the hotel is pretty fun.  There is a good mix of restaurants and bars within a short walk.  The entire hotel staff is very helpful.  They don't have a gym but, with the beach right there and miles of paths right on the beach, your ass should be working out outside anyway!!

Oh yeah, and Marriott take note....they have free wifi!!!

This is one of my best hotel stays ever...no exaggeration.

Everything is top notch here, from the view and perfect service all the way down to the soaps!  Had lunch in the restaurant since we arrived early and it was awesome.  I was blown away with the view (Surf Pad room) and sat on the balcony for hours just watching the surfers and people walking by.  We had one rainy day (didn't know it ever rained in SD) and chilled at the bar with the friendliest bartenders I've met...and the dark and stormy's were excellent!

Like some others have mentioned, this hotel seems out of place considering the surrounding area but that is part of it's charm.

A little pricey by my standards, but absolutely worth it for a short stay.  I WILL be back!

Recently had a good 3-night stay here with about 14 other work colleagues.

I too, like Karen C., am rounding my 3.5* review up to 4.

Check-in was.... aaaah, kinda a cluster *&!   at first. Not sure why my organization didn't master bill everything, but we were all left to give our credit cards up front for incidentals. (I get it... I travel a lot.) But... OMG $960 for incidental charges for a 3 night stay are you KIDDING ME???

Definitely didn't start with a good warm & fuzzy feeling about the place. And the staff was actually kinda meh about it.

Got to the room after the little check-in shocker/fiasco for most of us.... to find a double bed room. For one. Why me?? Again... I was annoyed/bummed at first. But at least my room was on the second floor and had a sitting area that opened onto the fire pit loungey area.

Room decor was fine. It was not Ikea furniture, as another Yelp review had stated. But it was okay for me - - nothing crazy (IMHO). The two beds were "supposedly" Tempur Pedic, but it was hard for me to really tell since it was a "double" bed. I love my Tempur Pedic king-sized bed at home...

Housekeeping was fine. They actually restocked my amenities. I likey!  Speaking of, they have H2O+ bath amenities in the rooms. So that was a nice treat, and they smelled so good.

LG flatscreen in the room (that I never turned on once).

But... biggest gripe -- - PAPER THIN WALLS!! Sooooo annoying to hear a guy yakking away at like 5am on his cell phone outside his sliding door area. And then, the best part... he comes back into his room and I can STILL hear him!! And also one of my colleagues had heard a couple getting pretty intimate. Uggghh...

But... it is in a great location. We walked everywhere.

Oh, and Valet Parking -- was $20/night. The sign said $24/night. (Maybe my company got a corporate rate or something.?)

For our work meetings, we were in the wine room in JRDN. That was fine.

And.... speaking of JRDN, there is absolutely NO correlation with this hotel and Michael Jordan. Some work colleagues thought that he owned it. But no.... it's called Tower23 for the former lifeguard tower #23 what USED to be in front of the hotel. And coincidentally the restaurant JRDN (pronounced Jordan) does NOT have a connection to MJ.

Meant to be spent close to home~

I love you Hotel Del but I'm a travel player and I'm always trading up for cheaper and better Ho's! Therefore, Tower 23 is the newest Hooker of my dreams and I'm glad I got to spend some awesome nights with this beautiful, luscious, and gracious Ho-tel this month!

Even though I live 20 minutes north, I never spend extended time, aside from surfing Tourmaline, exploring this mystical place named Pacific Beach. While Coronado and the Ho-tel Del are awesome, well, PB is "hipper" and its first class Call Girl is Tower 23! PB is filled with TON'S of affordable and way excellent places to eat, drink, and be merry. Tower 23 is right in the center of all the fun and has a stunningly modern exterior, comfy rooms, brilliant staff, and a location beyond par that makes this lodging whore worth every penny. Definitely less expensive than the Ho-tel Del and still gives you as much bang for your buck and goes a mile longer! But if you want cheap,  deep, less attractive Ho-tels,  there's also a couple of adequate ones a few blocks in either direction!

When we pulled up we got a street space parking in front. In PB? HO-LLA!!!
The front desk rep was super friendly and told us that we scored some awesome parking and, if we wanted to leave our car outside we wouldn't have to move it until street cleaning on Monday. She checked us in in a flash and was flawlessly efficient while still being welcoming and cordial. When she saw that I had surfboards she informed me that they have locking surfboard racks in their parking garage. NO HO WAY!?!?

So the interior of this place in sort of like  SoCal modern art museum! It's filled with cool paintings, fun sculptures, and contemporary lighting. It almost feels like you're living in a huge beachfront estate in Malibu! Functional, elegant, and private, what's not to love?

I like my Ho's quiet so I asked for a location that was away from the street, not on top of the bar/restaurant, close to the ocean, and still had a view (yes loves, I'm the travel pimp who's hella demanding of his of Ho's). The room was immaculate and so am I, well, kinda. Flawlessly clean carpet, lots of closet space, and filled with bright modern furnishings! The bathroom was perfectly designed to be comfortable and pristine without feeling stuffy and sterile. The bed was ginaormous and super duper comfy, enough for several people if you're into that kinda thing. Our balcony had a brilliant view of the ocean and we could also look eastward as well. The only thing I would have changed about our particular room was the "killer desk chair". Other rooms had more ergonomic ones but the one in our had thin legs that flared outwards for we were always tripping over it wherever we walked past the desk.

The staff at Tower 23 were all outstandingly friendly, professionally, and faultlessly efficient. Whether it was the reservation staff, the front desk reps, room service staff, the parking valets, or the housekeepers, everyone here ROCKED! Where else could I wake up, go 10 steps out my door, surf the PB Pier 3+ times a day, walk back dripping in my wetsuit and have a doorman help me with my board and hand me a hot cup of coffee?! Even the poor maintenance guy who kept following me around the hotel after surfing to mop up the sand was incredibly gracious!!!

Thanks Tower 23 for an outstanding 3 night stand! Beyond a doubt, you're now my number 1 "Ho" of a "tel" in SD! See ya again in a few months!

Great beachfront location. Great staff and fun bar. Check out the bathrooms they are trippy. Please do go for the happy hour. Best mussels appetizer in town. Great romantic dinner spot, but do not expect to be entertained. Bring your own entertainment.  :)

Tower23 exceeded my expectations. Situated literally right on the Pacific Ocean (with only the boardwalk separating it from the sandy shores!), it has incomparable views. We were there for a special occasion and the staff was so kind and helpful in situating the rooms, accommodating early and late check outs and answering lots of questions (as well as me exploding seltzer water in the car and holding up about 5 cars trying to valet but that's a story for another review)

We got two of the balcony suites facing the ocean. The extra money is well worth it as the view is in a word: extraordinary. The rooms were also new, very clean and bright -- and the bed could give The Westin's "Heavenly" mattress a run for its money!

We got room service and ate on the deck overlooking the ocean a few times. They also have a hoppin bar and restaurant downstairs. The food was awesome Definitely get the fresh mango margarita with chili salt. It's served in a goblet. Swoon! I also loved the LBLT -- lobster, bacon and lettuce. We also thought it was super affordable for a hotel -- I believe room service was only $10/dish (but maybe that's just the NYer in me being shocked a martini is under $20...).

Finally, upon checking out the receptionist let me know that future visits are always 20% off for returning guests -- forever and no blackouts!

Thumbs up to the hiring manager at Tower23... Every single employee I interacted with from valet to bell hop to front desk to bar staff was very friendly and helpful.  Couple this with the clean modern design in an unbelievable location and you've just checked yourself into the perfect vacation or work trip.

One of my favorite places in San Diego.  Great bar food!  Mussels and burgers top the list -- best in SD.  Kick it up a notch with caramelized onions on the burger. JRDN is probably the most underrated restaurant in the county.  They have the best steak in town.

Love this place for a relaxed Sunday by the beach! Great view, great drinks, comfortable seating. Great place to chill and feel like you are on vacation in your home town! Start it with a walk by the beach or on the boardwalk, watching the surfers from the pier to then head over to Tower 23 for some relaxed Sunday fun.
The restaurant looks great too and so does the menu. Unfortunately, I have never made it there for dinner or lunch. Will check it out soon and update my review

Graham Downes, the contemporary architect who brought this hotel to life, is the heart and soul of this boutique sanctuary.  His fusion of Pacific Beach's sun, sand, and water concept merges with the architecture of the building, its rooms, and the restaurant.

During the day the hotel dances with light, with its floor to ceiling windows that capture the sun's rays, white hallways, and minimalist white and azure blue decor.  There are three types of rooms that capture the vibe of the space: The Spirit, Sky, and Surf Pad.  The Surf Pad has the ultimate ocean views.  Leave the balcony doors open to hear the surf from your Tempur Pedic Serenity bed.  The beds are certainly one of the highlights of the room.  100% Egyptian cotton linens, and fine down comforters and pillows.  And so many large and squishy pillows I felt like I was falling into clouds.

Step-in rain showers with H2O bath products, and plush terry robes refreshed us when coming in from a day at the beach.  A personalized mini bar with all manner of refreshments was provided, with other assorted items such as an intimacy kit and snacks.

The beach, the ocean, stretches out below the hotel.  The deck is the perfect place to enjoy the spectacular views.  Lay on a lounge chair, sip cocktails, order noshes from "Jrdn's" excellent menu, and watch the sun go down.  All in comfort and privacy.  The downside is that this refuge does not have a pool.  There was a beautifully worked water feature on the deck, but nothing to dip one's feet into.

At night, JRDN is one of THE restaurants and lounges to visit in Pacific Beach.  Oceanfront dining on the patio, or intimate seating in its spacious accomodations inside - creating a romantic mood with Down's creative use of light that mimics the patterns of ocean waves or the setting sun's ripples on the tides.

Chef David Warner uses all natural meats, seafood from sustainable sources, and locally grown produce to create his modern Californian menu.  Over the course of our short stay, we feasted on the Beet salad (with goat milk ricotta, candied pecans, and mint), the incredible dungeness crab cake (with a unique curry aioli with fennel and citrus), the incredible Tower23 burger (ground flavourful meyer and kobe chuck on a brioche bun with all the fixins, and a gorgeous aioli) with a side of fries and a chunky bleu cheese dip, lamb meatballs...and we never even got the very good looking entrees such as the pacific seabass or poached maine lobster.

This is the kind of place for people who enjoy being close to the ocean, relaxing on the deck and reading a good novel, enjoying ocean views, and appreciating a good cocktail such as the Chili Mango Margarita at the lounge downstairs.  Beautiful!

I dont usually frequent hotel restaurants, but Tower23 is the exception. Yes, the prices are high, but the quality of the food matches the prices. But even more importantly, the quality of the service is extremely high as well. From the moment you walk in the door they make you feel like you are an important customer. You won't wait more than a minute or two before you have some drinks in front of you and your appetizers ordered. Once you have ordered, your food will be on the table quickly. The only real negative is that on the weekend, especially during the summer, the wait can be long. I would suggest calling in before taking the time to find parking, however there is a garage you can park in at the hotel.

My wife and I stayed at Tower 23 a couple weeks ago and had a wonderful time. The hotel was in the middle of where we wanted to be and the access to the ocean and the boardwalk was super.

Room was clean, comfortable and reasonable. We brought our bikes with us, but they have bikes at the hotel that are complimentary of you are staying there.

Only thing I would say was that the hot water took a little bit to get to the 3rd floor, but once it did, it was fine.

    Nice staff. very modern feel.

    Parking: Valet Only
    Pros:
    3 hours free with validation
    $20 for hotel guests

    Parking Cons:
    Rude and lying staff
    - our friends arrived for my birthday party and were told that parking would be free for them, when they went to leave the new valet person tried to charge them $24, was very rude and just charged it to my room when my friends said they wouldn't pay it (the front desk guy took the charge off the following morning when I complained during check out)

    Room Pros:
    Was Clean
Had a nice view of the ocean
    Could hear the waves crashing
    Decent size and decor
    1 comfy lounge chair

    Room Cons:
Was directly above the very loud restaurant/bar
-we were woken in the morning by chairs being moved around for breakfast service
-the gas from the heaters at the restaurant below wafted up and got trapped on our balcony so we couldn't sit outside on our balcony at all

    Staff Pros:
Reception person who checked us in and out
Servers - restaurant server was exceptional, server on tower deck was very polite but did not come around very often. It was not a big deal to just walk down the stairs and go to the bar ourselves though, which is what we mostly did.

    Staff Cons:
Hostess at restaurant, rude and apparently could not tell time
Taryn (Catering manager), Nina, and other random staff people, were incredibly rude and pushy.

For my birthday weekend we rented a fancy ocean view room and planned to have about 20 friends come hang out with us on the Tower Deck to celebrate. I called ahead and spoke to Taryn. She said that even though you're allowed to have guests hang out on the Tower Deck with you, that she couldn't reserve space (no big deal) but further more that if it were a busy night on the deck with paying hotel guests, that I couldn't have my guests there. She did however say that if it was a slow evening then it would be fine and they would do everything they could to accommodate my party.

The evening came and it was completely dead out on the deck, my party shows up and we are enjoying ourselves. It was only us and one other party of 6 that were not all hotel guests and not part of our party. We were even going down to the bar and ordering our own drinks so that we wouldn't overwhelm the one server that was covering the deck.

Come 10 pm we are getting kicked out, being told that the deck is only for hotel guests after 10 pm. However, the other party did not get disturbed or kicked out. It's not like we're a loud or obnoxious crowd; the security guard even told us that there had been no noise complaints.

We moved down to the bar for a while and after a while was told that the bar was closing early (before 11:30 pm) and that we would need to leave. My party and I went up to our room to chill in the nice room and figure out where we wanted to go next. Some rude guy on staff FOLLOWED us up to our room (umm...stalker!) and was very rudely telling my fiance that we couldn't be in our room, that it was too many people (about 14 at that point) to be in our room. REALLY!?! I didn't see any rules that dictated how many guests I can have over in the room that we're paying (a lot of money) for! Regardless, we were chased out of the room that we'd paid for.

To rub salt on the wound, the following morning my fiance found literature in the room stating that you could book out the Tower Deck for parties. WTF!?!

By the time we checked out we had spent about $530 at their facility (not counting what all of our friends had spent on drinks). If I had known we'd be dropping that kind of money to be treated horribly then we never would have gone there, especially for a birthday celebration.

After that awful experience we will never be back, nor will any of our friends who were there with us that night.

This hotel is amazing! The decor felt both modern and luxurious and relaxed and beachy at the same time. The view of the ocean from our private balcony was breathtaking, and my boyfriend and I enjoyed being walking distance to lots of restaurants, bars, and shops. Spent our 1 year anniversary here and loved it. The staff was amazing. They were helpful and so nice. You can really feel the pride they take in their job. They seemed so happy, I want to work there. Our room was beautiful, shower was gorgeous, and the robes were great. The view from the lounge chairs was perfect and even better from our room. The pool I think was actually a fountain but still pretty. Everything we had from the restaurant was yum. The Bloody Mary's were fantastic. Welcome cocktails were delicious. Free bikes to rent and beach equipment is so helpful. Walking distance to all the fun also! Would go stay here again in a heart beat! Can't praise this hotel enough.

I have to admit, I wasn't thrilled with Tower 23 at first.  It has the feel of a 3 star hotel which is not what we were looking for, but it grew on us.  The room was mid-century modern but on the small side.  The style is consistent with the piped in house music and lounge.  There was no hot tub, no gym, and lacked privacy due to our rooms location off the deck.  It was a partial ocean view if we wanted people walking by our room and looking in.

With that said, the location was perfect for walking, the entire staff were very friendly, the style was fun, and we didn't need a gym with the access to miles of walking on the beach.  The price was fair and it included internet and valet was fairly priced at $20.

Went for brunch was "early" and it did not seem very crowded...waited for a very long time for the food...asked for water and waited a long time for that too. Drinks came right away - we had finished them by the time the meal arrived. Lovely view, lovely ambiance but the food was so-so...pretty greasy fare...we ordered a skillet with poached eggs and wild mushrooms...it said "sausage" but I coud not taste any at all, was tempted to ask if they did put any in, but then I saw some flecks of it in the skillet. Had the fried brussel sprouts, which is exactly that... a pile of fried brussel sprouts with a wedge of lemon...they are kind of bitter in addition to greasy...we left them on the plate. The staff was nice enough, apologized for the long wait...and yet...it feels touristy....seems the food was better once. Patio on Lamont street is way better and feels more genuine.

My head hurts.  I can't work.  I should just go home.

My wallet is a lot lighter today than it was Saturday morning.  All the clams, happily spent, at Tower 23 and its environs.

    Saturday:

Warm up cocktail, two hours of pints, three Moscow Mules.  Got lost.  Had supper at JRDN (t-23 amazing restaurant).  Oysters.  Cod on a bed of whipped wonderfulness.  Seared scallops.  Both melted like butter in my hot mouth.  More pints.  Across the boardwalk and down to the beach.  Midnight.  Climbed the Crystal Pier.  Fell in the sand.  Kelp fight.

    Sunday:

A full ten seconds to figure out where I was.  Tempurpedic foam, a thousand pillows, sand everywhere, slider wide open.  Dizzy.  Bloody Mary (best ever) and french toast (best ever) at JRDN.

    Mayhem ensues.

There is absolutely no reason to stay or eat anywhere else in San Diego.  Tower 23 is beautifully appointed; the rooms are fluffy and stocked with all manner accoutrements for your temptation.  Million dollar view, attentive staff, beautiful people.

    I'll be back.

Too bad it's gone downhill. Used to be 5 star prices and worth it, now it's not. Furnishings have gotten worn looking, beds that used to be a cloud are now sway-backed. Attention to detail has gone away. Stayed here 5 times since they opened, this will be the last. Noise level from Feldspar for partial ocean view rooms is terrible, with MANY MANY motorcycles using the turnaround as their personal demo area to show how LOUD they can rev. Over the top was the one who showed off his sound system for a half hour, playing it so loud I could hear every note even with the door closed. The restaurant is still ok, but way overpriced, and they made me wait a half hour to be seated even though I had a reservation for four.

The hotel has a lovely view but the service at the restaurant is absolutely horrible Out of all the choices in pacific beach this place is not the place you want to eat. Take your business elsewhere or be prepared for a 3 hour meal. The only thing that made up for this experience was the valet who throughly apologized for this event and gave us a discount on parking because we were unable to validate our parking by eating there.

I have never been treated so rudely by a valet ever.  George/Jorge chased us out of the parking garage to tell us that we weren't allowed to go to the beach if we were going to park there (no just eat) that we would have to pay for valet. I said, well we are meeting about 10 people here in 30 minutes for drinks and food. He said he didn't care and he's not the manager. To which I replied, "Feels like you are nickel and dimming us". Well, apparently that comment flipped George out. He SCREAMED, "I'm getting you're car and YOU are going SOMEWHERE ELSE". Before I could even say anything, he was running back to get the car and quipping under his breath, "nickeling and dining... IF THATS how you're going to talk" which sounded like a thinly veiled threat.

When he pulled the car up and got out, I asked his name to which he told me and said, "if you want, come talk to my manager". Well, since you offered, sure. I will! Well, Nadir or something along those lines, was not much more helpful. He explained their policy on parking, which is fine. However, when I explained that his employee YELLED at me and became aggressive, his manager didn't seem to be the least bit bothered. And, George just stood there and lied as his face turned bright red, probably I'm embarrassment.

The fact that the valet treated me so rudely and his boss made no attempts to rectify the situation means that I will NEVER EVER give my business to Tower 23 EVER. Maybe they think that they can treat tourists poorly, but the locals are who maintain their business in the slow months.

Used to love this place - the aesthetic and location. But unfortunately our bartender yesterday was absolutely horrible. Should have gotten his name - smallish, short dark hair, may have had sunglasses on, tattooed forearms - anyway - just absolutely terrible with no skill whatsoever. I ordered a bombay sapphire and tonic - and received a terrible concoction of lowest grade well gin, tonic and a hard dried out wedge of lime. My friend who decided to try out one of their mules (her favourites) had a tin sloshed with a poorly concocted mix slammed in front of her. Which also tasted terrible. We paid and tipped prior to tasting the poor experience they served us. Regret that.
Management should send this guy to bar-tending school, and he should, on his own time, practice some social skills.
Overall - awful beginning to our weekend.
We escaped to Bare Back grill down the block for some respite and to wash away our awful start with absolutely delicious mules.

I stayed here in the Summer for a 4 night vacation. The hotel itself is clean, fun, and in an amazing location. It has a classic SoCal feel.

The area it's in, however, leaves a little to be desired. I am 31, and a "young" 31, but the crowd at this beach was a little... douchey? Like, people in their 20s who always wear flip flops, are "bros," and never stopped listening to Sublime. It's fine and all. I mean, these people are harmless. It's just that the scene is a bit silly. Go for the natural beauty and to eat delicious food on the patio and watch the sunset. Don't go to be impressed by the "classy scene."

Looking for a classy place to have drinks on the beach?  This is the place.  I came here to meet up with an old friend.  We both really enjoyed it.  We sat at the bar and had drinks, good service and a snack.

I started with a mimosa which helped my hang over from the day before than moved to a martini.  Both good drinks and the bartenders were very friendly.  We eventually ordered some appetizers which came quick and hot.  The food and drinks were good.

The atmosphere is very relaxing and not a lot of people.  With the prices of drinks being a little more than the bar up the road, this prevented a a huge group of college kids.  I enjoyed not being pushed around with "bros" trying to talk to me.

Very classy, fun and I will suggest this place to anyone.

My sister and I stayed here over Labor Day weekend and had a great time! I would consider this to be an oceanfront boutique hotel and definitely the nicest in Pacific Beach. The customer service was wonderful- especially Ivan and Keith. The staff were all very helpful and accommodating. We took full advantage of the complimentary beach chairs and free bike rentals! The room was very clean esp for being oceanside (no musty, damp smell and no mold!) The hotel is 5 minutes driving distance from La Jolla or you can easily bike there to go see the sea lions.  Minus one star because there was a loud party in the room next to ours; however, after 2 phone calls to the front desk and many other guests complaining, they broke up the party and kicked our noisy neighbors out of the hotel (yay!)

I want to start off by saying That I have never written a yelp review but feel this hotel treated us so aweful that it deserves to be known. For my husbands 40 th birthday we decided to stay at Tower 23 along with 5 other couples for the weekend who also stayed in the rooms. First off the walls were paper thin so when we had a couple friends come into our room at 9pm and security was called. We are grown adults(Chp officers) and were treated like children by security so definately not a place you want to stay unless you plan to sleep only. Second we go down to the restraunt and were greeted so rudely by the hostess . We had a party of 10 who wanted to have breakfast and they could not accommodate us restraunt (looked empty but supposedly had reserved all the tables which stayed empty the entire time my friend and I were there to have breakfast)and was very rude about it. Third we asked to speak with a hotel manager (Lorraine) and they sent us a hotel supervisor who looked at us with a blank stare the entire time we tried to explain to her our experience and also argued and made us feel like we just should never come back . The hotel itself is beautiful and we had stayed there a couple times before with a way better experience (whole different staff) 1 more thing, the times we stayed at this hotel before we were allowed to sit on the hotel deck after 10 o'clock and that is no longer available . I have always talked so good about this hotel but now will never stay here again . Sad!!!

Feels great to write this review after writing a couple not-so-flattering reviews for the other hotels associated with my recent wedding.  Tower23 is wonderful, and everything about the 2 nights we spent here last month--including our wedding night--was memorable.  Our wedding was held at JRDN (pronounced "Jordan," like the country), the hotel's on-site restaurant.

My now-husband and I stayed in 1 of the 4 Sanctuary Suites and had no major complaints about the spacious room--I entertained at least 10 ladies there the afternoon of the wedding--or friendly maid service.  The front desk staff, however, did drop the ball a bit by not ensuring some items (champagne glasses, linen napkins, dessert plates, and ice buckets) were set up in the suite prior to our check-in per request.  We also experienced some minor frustration when we requested an additional room key card and had to return to the front desk multiple times to have the card properly activated.

I should note that as the bride and groom we received a spectacular 50% off the regularly priced $500/night Sanctuary Suite.  For you more serious money-spenders out there, the hotel's one and only Sweet Suite is normally $1000/night.  Our wedding guests had the pleasure of staying in the hotel's more common rooms (Spirit Pads, Sky Pads, and Surf Pads) at a 25% discounted rate.

    What else?
    * Location, location, location.  Tower23's can't be beat.
    * Really appreciated the complimentary beverages on display in the lobby.  There's a Keurig machine available in the morning, and each day there's a different kind of infused water.
    * Also loved the print freebies--I noticed stacks of newspapers, San Diego Magazine, and hotel post cards during our stay--available in the lobby.
    * The valet guys were exceptionally nice and efficient.
    * Do consider dining at JRDN at least once if you stay at Tower23.  Breakfast, brunch, and lunch are quite affordable, and dinner is a bit on the pricier side.  Happy Hour (Monday-Friday from 4-7PM) boasts good drink specials and reduced price delicious small plates.

Loved it here and hope to stay again soon.  We're looking into Tower23 for New Year's Eve!

This review is for the restaurant at Tower23 hotel.  My co-worker and I came here for lunch one day, and I ordered the lobster BLT sandwich, and it was really tasty.  a lot of lobster meat, and it was quite filling!  We also tried the appetizer ceviche as well, but i think i will skip it next time since the sandwich was more than enough for lunch!   btw, this place has very nice view too!

We went to a wedding reception that took over the whole hotel. We had all the rooms, and also the entire restaurant / bar. The rooms were great, and the bed was amazingly comfortable. The layout was great, and on the 2nd floor, we had a nice patio as well. The staff was fantastic, very happy and professional. From the valet/bellmen, front desk, restaurant staff, maids, etc. were all great

The best hotel ever! Pricey but worth it. Went with my 16 year old daughter to look at colleges during spring break. Terrific location and great room. 30 seconds from the beach yet quiet enough to sleep. Every staff member so professional; front desk, maids, valet, servers. Tower deck has the most beautiful view. Love love love.

Beautiful location right next to the boardwalk in PB!

Great views of the ocean, but it also depends on what kind of view you end up getting here because each room has a different theme. Views of the beach are the best and their staff is super friendly and clean.

They also have a surfer board locker downstairs for anyone who wants to hit the beach and catch some major waves.

I can't wait to come back and relax!

Nothing but great things to say. This past weekend I booked a few rooms for my sister's bachelorette, and had nothing but excellent customer service. Ryan was amazing and so accommodating, and everything went off without a hitch. The entire hotel staff was truly great- there were a few hiccups with the final bill, and they were quick to remedy the situation. The hotel was beautiful, airy, modern, and the rooms were clean, spacious, and lovely. My one complaint is that valet was expensive ($20), but otherwise I would highly recommend this hotel.

This is my favorite hotel in San Diego. I love the location right on the beach and the second floor outdoor terrace. Just wished they had the huevos rancheros on the room service menu.

The best views of the ocean in Pacific Beach, no doubt. Beautiful people, great cocktails, fast service, good ambience. Lots of nice design in here, from the walls, to the signage (check those icons in the bathrooms, a mermaid and a hulk man, very cool) to the sofas, the colors and the elegant simplicity. I just love to hang out there. This is the coolest place to chill and relax and take great shots while having a drink or two.

LOVE THIS HOTEL! THE BEST IN PB!
Tower has  one of the best views of the ocean and located in a prime PB area filled with bars and restaurants. Their restaurant Jordyn is nice with a fun vibe in it, their Chile Mango Margaritas are AMAZING! Great hotel to stay or even just dine or have drinks at!

A friend of mine heard we were visiting PB and recommended tower 23. The decor and decor and feng shui is impeccable. Great location within walking distance of many clubs and restaurants (including the baked bear!). Very tempting to spend all money at brandy melville and urban outfitters just next door. Ideal location if you're traveling without a car, but can get a bit rowdy on the weekends. Love the outdoor deck area
Overlooking the beach, but can get a bit crowded. Definitely recommend staying in a "surf pad" room, as the others are level with the deck and lack privacy. Gorgeous beach/ocean views as well as a nearby pier if you're looking to take a stroll. One of the best hotels I've stayed at in a long time, especially love the flavored water in the lobby. Only complaint is the crazy noise restaurant downstairs. The fire pit is an epic attraction. Enjoy!

I was at the Tower 23 restaurant for lunch yesterday and I have to say, it was such a nice experience. I believe our waitress was named Emily, and she was such a delight. Not only did she accommodate our every need, but she provided such wonderful service for our large party. We had reserved the back room for a party of about 15 or 16. Emily was very attentive, polite and even brought over our drinks without us having to wait long at all. The food was amazing to say the least. I have to say their brussel sprouts and cerviche were to die for! I also loved their pita bread and the dips that came with with. So tasty and that was just the appetizers. I had some sort of steak salad that was very light and fluffy; each bite tasted like heaven. Then I had some of their hamburger and truffle fries. Emily had recommended the truffle fries and I have to say what a great recommendation. So delicious! The burger was also made to perfection.

They even had something for my vegan sister. It was a vegetarian dish but fortunately it also had no animal products. She was very happy that she was able to eat more than just a plain salad (which is usually the case).

I don't always have such great reviews, but when I experience a restaurant, and its service to be well above expectation I have to let everyone know about it. It IS a little pricey, my burger was $16. But you get what you pay for. Actually, with this restaurant, you get more than what you pay for. You can't put a price on excellent service and a wonderful time with friends and family.

Modern, beachy, luxury boutique hotel. We chose to stay here for our San Diego get away, being so close to the main attractions while remaining in a peaceful bubble.

Upon checking in 2/8/14, we were greeted with delicious complimentary cocktails that were similar to a Mai Tai. The service throughout our stay was excellent.

My husband and I stayed in their Sweet Suite, which had 2 showers, 2 bathrooms, a spacious living room area, bar, desk/office area, & the bed over looking the ocean.Their jacuzzi is unique and futuristic with it filling the water directly from the ceiling rather than from a typical tap. It was so cool! The LED light color change in the tub was pretty cool too.

What we enjoyed most about this hotel was the JRDN restaurant! So amazing! We dined here for both Dinner & Breakfast before heading out to explore San Diego.

Beautiful hotel. Great location. I had room 301, one of the sky pads. Was worried that I wouldn't have an ocean view, but as you can see from the pictures, the view from the balcony was pretty amazing. The staff was friendly; maid service was spotty. Stayed for three days, during the week, and while the hotel was pretty empty (or at least it seemed so), the hotel bar was always filled.

Well worth the money; would definitely return.

Great food. Was here on a work event. I felt the space was a bit crowded given the amount of people at our event. Perhaps having two buffet lines for bigger groups would eliminate a lot of the bumping into each other. The food was good but not great, I had a chicken dish which lacked flavor. Also pretty sure celery sticks are not considered "cru da te". Great location right by the beach. The ambiance is great with fire pits on the outside patio and beautiful building.

I love this hotel!!! The location and service are excellent! We spent a weekend here for our babymoon and I loved that it's by the beach! The room was pretty and we had a nice view of the beach. The restaurant in the hotel is also pretty good but gets really busy during the weekends.. Busy enough that clients staying in the hotel don't get any special accommodations to the restaurant. I'm happy with the place overall!

    Beautiful view, delicious food.

Obviously on the pricier side, but I don't think any other dining establishments in PB approach this level of quality (and like I said price).

We had lots of cocktails and steaks and were very full and satisfied!

Great place to catch the sunset in PB, if you can get a seat in the outdoor/bar seating (first come, first serve). Have a drink, order some appetizers and enjoy! I often bring my out of town guests here. I have had lunch and dinner here before as well and it's top-notch.

My new favorite hotel. I split the room several ways, but fairly pricey.

I didn't do this but I hear you can rent essential beach toys, like bikes, towels, games.

The pool is basically non-existent but who needs a pool when the beach is 20 feet away! We checked out the pool area and ordered some great wine and enjoyed the view at night. So fun.

Restaurant is great, hotel is clean and right on the water! Must try!

    These guys get it.

    LOCALS APPROVED.
To be local means to want a sense of belonging.
To often the sitch is that a fancy ass spot rolls into town, lands on some prime real estate, looks all purdy & has no culture.

Tower 23 has found a way to crack that code:
    *They are purdy.
*Spot is poppin on the regular
*Hotel is nice (stayed there once)
*BUT .. they identify with the community well & the people who work there are on point.

    THEY TAKE CARE OF PEOPLE
No spot is ever bigger or better than its people.
Last month, after having either eaten or partied there at least 2 dozen times - I opted to have my company's annual retreat there.  We needed a space that was inspiring, energetic - yet - blended with the right amount of intimacy for big thoughts.  Having been a resident of PB for 20+ years, I knew that being on the beach would be perfect, but I struggled with how we could pull this off in a public setting.  Instead of struggling though the challenge, I called tower 23 and together Brittney & Brennen pulled the whole thing together in less than 1 day.  They thoughtfully concocted the perfect space for our group of 12 and took great care of us all day long.

OVER THE TOP FOR AN EVENT & LOCAL LOVE
I mention this experience for 2 key reasons:
    1) you, like me, may not have previously thought of them as such a perfect spot to hold an event such as this, but they crushed it.  It's the perfect blend of atmosphere and service.
    2) they went out of their way for the spirit of the local love. As I shared before, it's easy to be big and pretty and lose sight of that base which comprises you.  Not these guys, and it's refreshing to hear them acknowledge this as their truth - unprovoked - and follow through when given the opportunity.

Awesome location (right in front of the fishing pier walkway and stairway to the ocean), splendid view with a sky pad, impeccable customer service, clean room, great food - one drawback - the noise. It's about $500 a night during this period (including taxes, valet (mandatory), and other fees)- so would have definitely expected the clientele to be more mature - alas - that is not so.

Came here to celebrate our anniversary and it was wonderful - greeted with complimentary fruit punch cocktails, received complimentary champagne for our anniversary within an hour of checking - that was amazing - believed it was The Path of Estrellas (sparkly and nicely fragrant), gorgeous view of the beach, and every fibre of my being loved the divine bathtub, with the champagne by my side. Enjoyed their H2O bath gel/shampoo/hair conditioner, and the bed wasn't bad either. Everything was pitch perfect, until you're trying to go to sleep.

The northern side of Tower 23, toward La Jolla, was quieter, more family oriented, and generally chiller than the south side - which was bustling with loud bars, rowdy crowds, and younger bods - so good for spectators, not so good for staying and relaxation.

I guess the key is, it's a party town in June, and sleeping isn't allowed until after 12:45 a.m., or maybe it's because the restaurant is conveniently located right below us, and there is little noise buffer. I was literally counting minutes to wait until a peaceful shuteye moment, which came at 12:45 a.m.

Not having had enough sleep definitely made both of us a little grouchy in the morning, but the room service breakfast quickly turned that around. Definitely enjoyed the Jrdan Breakfast Omelet, very tasty - and the French Toast was crisp in all the right places, wasn't overly sweet and was done well. They also came right on time to when we wanted them, and that was very nice.

Overall, I would probably come and stay again - but will avoid coming in June at all costs - and would ask for a quieter room - definitely.

    Review for the bar...

A bit pretentious and stuffy for my taste, but very chic if you're into that. Get dressed up if you're coming or you'll feel, well, underdressed. It feels like a place for overpaid lawyers, real estate agents or stock brokers. I come when friends request us to meet up there, but I never recommend the place.

Warning: Forgot to take a picture of my amazing breakfast on the beach. But let me tell you about it. I sat on the patio over looking the ocean doing some people watching and watching surfers enjoying a cup of coffee. I ordered a wrap. Inside a green tortilla was scrambled eggs, braised beef, salsa, peppers, queso fresco, and some lime juice, and on the side were these amazing roasted potates with rosemary and other herbs. Great place to grab a bite and people watch.

Love this hotel! Super courteous staff, and the location couldn't be better. My room overlooked the beach, so I could just open my sliding door and listen to the crashing waves all night.

They have free beach cruiser rentals, and also are conveniently located next to shops (surf shop, Brandy Melville for the young ladies, and Urban Outfitters). There's a barber shop around the corner too. Legit.

The hotel experience was " cool " - hotel offers bikes, has a bumpin bar and atmosphere. Very well located in PB, super clean and classy hotel...but a few things could have been better. I planned fort husband and I to go to PB for his birthday. I asked for strawberries and champagne in room... The champagne was forgotten. I am also have a feather allergy so down feather bedding is a no-go for me. I asked them in reserving to make sure it was feather free... Nope. When asked to change it out housekeeping went home, so we suffered our first time. The midnight shift gentlemen was super charming and as nice as can be but his hands were tied. The next day, we had the feathers removed, and literally the Room became filled with feathers the remainder of our stay.

The bed is not comfortable, and hypoallergenic pillows are not working out for anyone/ flat pancake pillows.

The room had a partial ocean view, which was nice....but unfortunately the fountain outside our window drowns out the ocean tides.. Boo!
The top patio is a top notch location for sunset-watching in all of PB! Oh, cheeseboard was 'eh' it could use some work... Relish was confusing... But holly wow, their avocado toast truly is delicious!

In case you were wondering, yes we brought this to the managements attention. And yes we finally got our (cough) champagne... More like. $10 bottle of preseco as though we wouldn't know the difference.. To follow, They gave us a $75 credit.... We would've preferred a solid 3 nights of sleep in all honestly! For a $300+ rate... Come on!

Just a true experience from a true guest.  Oh and the surf shop next door is a prime spot for scandal shopping, urban outfitters came in handy for fun splurges and the baked bear ice cream cookie shop is AMAZING!

We visited the hotel and restaurant for Valentine's weekend courtesy of Stacy. I found the check-in with Andrew simple and our room stay was well, but the real stars earned for this hotel is the location and chef. The sunset from the balcony is stunning and the restaurant is superb.

We will definitely return for happy hour or brunch. 5+ stars for the chef and team service at JRDN.
