What a great place. The best hotel that I have stayed in. The rooms are lavishly decorated with a comfortable setting. I am a security freak and this place is so safe. The staff here is extra friendly and I loved the area which is centrally located. Each weekend I would stroll along the pier or go to my favourite Italian restaurant which is right down the street.

This is a great place to live.  Affordable and right in the heart of North Beach, one of the best neighborhoods in San Francisco!  What more can you ask for?  I feel really lucky to live in such a great place.

Casa Melissa truly is the most accommodating place to live. It is located right in the heart of SF in North Beach where theres a lot of great food and entertainment. The rooms are also very clean and well kept. The manager, GR, really looks out for you and is readily available for any assistance that you need. Next time I'm back in SF I'm definitely coming back here!

The hotel is outstanding in cleanliness, service and charm. The staff was quite accomodating and the location is safe and convenient. G.R. (manager/owner) has a charming personality and is available 24/7 for any residential services that is required. He treats the residents in a very polite manner and makes sure residents face no problems during their stay. Him and his staff are both friendly and welcoming. Will definitely come back! A+ service!

I have lived here for quite some time and I have to say that I love living here! Management is responsive, considerate, and try to make your living here relaxed and easy. If you need a great room in a great neighborhood, with great management, this is where you need to be.

I love this place. The management (G.R) has always been super nice and accommodating. Once I had to wake him up at 5 am because I was locked out and he was smiling even then. The cleaning lady is here every day almost all day and as a result the place is always very clean and I love the new painting. I like sitting in the lobby and enjoy the view of Washington square park and Coit tower. And I love the fact that I can walk for less than 10 minutes in each direction and get to Fisherman's warf (north), Coit tower (east) , Giradelli square (west) or union square (south). This place is also across the street from Tony's pizza which is my favorite pizza place.

This place is awful! It is a residential hotel.
Only accepts cash!!!
No heat and no electricity:
After I lost my electricity,  the heat went out in the building. A repairman, i.e. unlicensed electrician, was hired to check things out, but couldn't figure out where the source of the power was in my room and in the hallway.  I was given a dim light to plug into one of two power outlets that is still working.  It's been over a week and I am practically living in the dark.  The manager, GR, said that he would reimburse me the for the space heater I bought and then changed his mind, stating that he and his partner couldn't reimburse me because everyone would want the same.  The heat returned, albeit sporadically, but my lights are still out; it's been nearly a week! The excuse GR gave was that his electrician was Chinese and could not come to repair it due to the upcoming New Year!

All shared and never enough toilet paper. I have asked several times for more toilet paper and today was yelled at by GR and told that I should leave because I have no respect for people; stating he just woke-up (after (9:30 am) when I called him.  NO SINK in the bathrooms.  I have to bring a hand sanitizer with me (along with my toilet paper) since there is no sink to wash my hands after using the toilet. Bathrooms are cleaned every 2-3 days!!!

No room in the refrigerators.  Prior tenants have stuffed them with their things.  I have had to eat out since I came here.  GR also promised to get me a refrigerator, but has never followed through - as with all his promises.

Barely furnished. No even a dresser.  No televisions.  Internet access only in the hallway sitting area by the elevators. I had to purchase my own service through AT&T. No linens. No maid service.

Very old with questionable wiring. No smoke detectors.

With all the lack of services, GR hired an artist to paint a mural in the reception area - right by his room.

This place is very conveniently located truly in the heart of North Beach, with wonderful accommodations and a very friendly staff that is run by the man himself, GR.  Stop in and check out the place; you'll be glad you did!

I stayed here for six weeks last fall and found it to be an excellent place in value and location.  GR operates it and is the on-site manager as well.  The communal bathrooms, showers and kitchens are cleaned daily and the system of entry and locks keeps the place feeling totally secure.  The folks there are a mix of long-time residents on rent control, international students there for up to several months, and visitors staying for a week or two on a budget.  One guy was a contractor for Oracle or a similar firm.  There are coin-operated washing machines and dryers.  It's in tourist central but you can head toward the Marina a few blocks away and find more local haunts.

My boyfriend and I needed a place to stay, while we were on the hunt for a  new apartment. My girlfriend (young & cute) recommended Casa Melissa! We ended up living there for over 6 months! The Location is incredible! We got a huge room with bay windows! The people living there are nice and respectful. GR is awesome!!  He's so laid back and always around, so if you lock yourself out... He's there to help you:)  Casa Melissa was perfect while we were looking at apartments. Weekly rent and no deposits. We were able to take our time finding a new place. We are now happy in a new apartment! But defiantly miss GR and our North Beach location!

Casa Melissa, I spent almost a year there with my girlfriend in a one room unit.  Shared toilets, shared showers isn't something I would recommend for anyone with even a mild amount of mysophobia, but if you're willing to sacrifice such first world conveniences you can save money and actually enjoy one of the best and most historic neighborhoods in San Francisco. The management is nice, available and always accommodating.  If you are looking for a good deal while traveling or if you need a place to crash between apartments then this is a great choice.

This place is awesome!!! I stayed there for six months while going to school for a course. It overlooks Washington square park, and Coit tower, and best of all it's really close to Mama's!!!
The manager is friendly, handsome and very helpful. I would definitely want to come back

One of the most reasonably priced units in north beach. Looking at the location,  you can't really ask for more. Significant places like coit tower, crooked street and the fisherman's wharf are all within 10 mins walk. One of the best things is the on site laundry. Very clean and silent machines.
The guy who manages the place goes by G.R. A very warm and welcoming guy. Very seldom I've seen this guy annoyed at anyone. He manages everything efficiently. If you don't mind sharing "clean" bathrooms and kitchen, this is the place hands down. Clean because house keeping takes care of it, so you don't have to get your hands dirty. Do i need to say more ? Yelp is asking me to stop!
