Am a big fan of the Orchard Hotel, and equally pleased with its new sister property, the Orchard Garden.  A beautiful new boutique hotel squeezed in between Chinatown, Union Sq, and the Fin District. A recent stay by out of town colleagues endedin rave reviews.  Beautifully appointed rooms... nice local.... friendly and sexy sales staff... a wonderful value.... makes points with your friends or corporate travel dept by turning them on to his place.

Wanna forget you're on a business trip?  Stay here and once you're done with work it's all good.  Right near Chinatown, not far from Union Square, easy to walk to a lot of places or catch a bus.  Rooms are spacious and very new.  Decent bar to hang out in, though the rooftop sitting area is much better.  If you need to stay in the area, I'd recommend it!

I really don't understand all the great reviews here.  This is an average hotel at best, with awkward service, cheap amenities and paper-thin walls.  And amateur attempt at doing it right.  As for being "green" -- a few new lightbulbs, cheap toilet paper and leaf-print EVERYTHING doesn't make it so...just a cliche.  Beds are comfy but you'll sleep little thanks to the noise from other rooms -- from sex to family fights to TVs.  Great location, but worth it only if you plan to spend very little time in this hotel.  Just not up to snuff -- not as cool, design-centric, or "eco" as it thinks it is.

Had a pretty good experience with Orchard Garden Hotel.  Needed to find a hotel for a single night in the city before a flight out of Oakland the next day and wanted to be close to Union.  They had a really reasonable price for the neighborhood and they status as a "green" hotel certainly helped.  We were able to check in early around noon which was nice.  They made a mistake in the bed configuration but we made one quick call and they immediately put us in a different room with two separate beds.  We were only a few blocks from Union Square so walking around was very easy.  They arranged a shuttle pick up for us which was very convenient and fairly reasonably priced.  The shuttle was on time and very helpful.  Overall we had a very positive experience.  The only reason I gave 4/5 stars instead of 5/5 would be because of two things. The first being the front desk service which was fine but overall not the most cheerful or friendly.  They were fine, no major complaints but certainly nothing to praise.  The second which was far more annoying was that starting at 8:45am the maid service knocked on (and one time just walked into) our door to see if we were still there.  The first time ok (even though it was very early and our morning paper was still outside the door which could have been a clue we were not even up yet) but after we made it clear we were still there and also had called the front desk for a late check out we were still annoyed twice more before leaving.  the third time they knocked but then quickly just began to come in and it was not just one maid but three hotel employees.  I'm not sure what was going on but by the third time we were both annoyed and rather short with them (which is saying a lot for my friend).  Outside of that one weird occurrence that kept happening we were very happy with the hotel, especially for the reasonable price.  Also there was an Irish pub across the street called The Irish Bank I can highly recommend.

Brand new hotel. The room was very comfortable, and nicely designed. Each room has a flat screen TV.

It's a green hotel, and has a neat feature where you have to put your room key in a slot by the door to get the lights to work, that way you don't accidentally leave them on when you go out.

The staff was very friendly and courteous. The location is great, it's about 20 feet from the Chinatown gate.

I will definitely stay here on my next visit to SF.

if you're parking a car overnight, i recommend the lot on bush and stockton - it's only $8 if you enter after 6pm and leave before 8am. worth it, if you ask me :)

I really like this place.  I like that the people are so nice, the rooms are nicely designed and the breakfast is included (and it's good!).  The doorman was really nice and helpful.  The rooms are decent sized, the linens feel great, the bathrooms are spacious and the rooms include  free wireless, a business center where you can print stuff out and it's "green".  There's trashbins for different recyclables in each room, the food is sustainably grown and it's tasty, (and other good environmental stuff I can't quite remember).
Overall a really good experience.

My boyfriend and I decided to go to San Francisco for my Birthday (March '09) since I had never been .  I thank Yelp because I had no idea where we were going to stay and based on the reviews I decided to stay here. It was clean, friendly,  and comfortable.  The restaurant  inside the hotel served delicous meals - the Mac and Cheese with Crab was good, and so was there flank steak.  We ended eating here twice, once for lunch and on another day we wondered the streets for about an hour trying to find a place to eat and ended up having dinner at Roots.  Which we didn't regret because it was delicious.  I would highly reccoment this hotel and can't wait to visit again! You are 5 Stars in my book!

This was a last minute change. We were going to originally stay where our family was at the Stanford Court, but moved here for a better rate. I'm a native to the city, and wanted my visit back home to be less Union Square-y.

First, I've stayed at their sister property, The Orchard, and thought that's where I had booked this reservation. I was scared when I realized it wasn't, but my fears were unwarranted. This place is beautiful. All the rooms are green: organic cleaning products, recycle bins, key-card electric, etc. I loved it. The beds are super comfy with plush comforters, flat panel TV's, free wireless, iHome alarm clocks for your iPod, Aveda products...all you can want.

I had a small issue at their free breakfast, which consists of fresh baked goods (croissants the size of your foot, seriously), fruit, awesome coffee and sliced meat, and they quickly made it right, sending a lovely bottle of wine to our room. The rooftop patio is a nice place to unwind after walking all day.

If you're looking for large rooms, a thousand employees, 34 elevators and groups of tourists blocking the doors, look elsewhere. If you want a good SF experience, in walking distance to Union Square, FiDi, Muni, BART and everything else, check this place out.

The Orchard Hotels in San Francisco. Very unique in service and the hospitality is extraordinary. Very much impressive, especially after I've heard my in-travel guest(s) feed back and reading these reviews before mine.

Good Job Orchard Hotels - keep it up. My hat goes off to the special tremendous sales team and their officient Director of Sales (initials DK.)

What will really astound you about this place is the price for what you get.  It's lovely, modern, well-decorated, LEED-certified (yay!), great location, there are iPod speaker docks in every room, and the staff is great -- some of them are clearly new to the hotel business, but they're very nice about it.  I did, however, knock it down from 4 stars to 3 because it doesn't look like they're serving complimentary breakfast anymore (boo!)

Only real problem -- the wireless Internet was very problematic, I had to call tech support, etc. and eventually they just gave me an Ethernet cable.  I'm sure that's one of the "new hotel" kind of kinks that still has to be worked out, but it was a bit irritating.

The Orchard Garden Hotel is an emerald gem in SF. It is located near everything and literally at the shiny gates of Chinatown. It was an intimate boutique hotel with a serious passion for sustainability. Everything had a green twist... Mother Nature greeting you in the lobby - key operated lights - eco friendly soaps! The rooms were elegant and quiet and the beds were super comfy!!! I enjoyed my stay and just knowing I was in a small way protecting the environment will return again

Not a good place to stay if you plan to sleep.

The guy at the front door is out on the street every 10 minutes WITH A WHISTLE!  He stands there and whistles for cabs.  It's loud.  It starts at 7am and goes until around 10pm.

If one person needs a cab, why does the whole neighborhood need to hear about it?  Call a damn cab or put a light on.  DON'T WHISTLE.  It's not 1850.

Love this hotel.  My family stayed here for the weekend for a little getaway.  This hotel is advertised as a 'green hotel', so we decided to give it a try.

The decor is very "clean" and pleasing.  There was nothing super fancy about it, but very comfortable.  We had two adjoining rooms.

The hotel is just steps from the entrance to China Town and walking distance to all major shopping and to SF MOMA.

The customer service and valet where all very satisfactory.

We would definitely stay here again.

Modern, clean, new facilities.  Flat screen, room art, and decoration all give the rooms style.  Front desk was courteous.  Good rate thru hotels.com , 105/nt.  Location great.  Green attention is a plus.  Free wifi.  No comparison with other sub-standard hotels I've tried in area.

I've stayed at the Orchard Garden Hotel for about three days. Outstanding. Very zen, cozy, wonderful staff. They have accommodated us the best way that they could - my girlfriend and I at that time were checking in and out at different dates, so we had to make arrangements with them with regards to whose credit card it belongs to and who's checking in and out. They were very accommodating at the same time, following rules to be sure that we're not some con couple. :p

We took a cab going to the hotel... went to the reception area, got our room keys, went straight up to our room, bathe, went back down to the lobby to have dinner. We figured we're way too tired to go out, maybe we should just try the restaurant downstairs. With our luck, it's a vegan friendly bar and restaurant. The food was incredible! Even the desserts were outstanding. My girlfriend's vegan and I'm not, we both enjoyed the entire meal. While eating, I heard some rumbling, ends up that it was the guy working at the reception area, running towards me! And then handed me my eyeglasses, and I got confused as to how it got to him, I didn't even realized it was missing! Apparently the female French cab driver (which we thought was so cool, my very first encounter with a female cab driver and she's French too! She spent the entire trip talking to my girlfriend in their native language... anyhow, not the point of the story...) found my eyeglasses on her cab, remembered us, took it back to the hotel and apprently, the receptionist remembered us too right away and gave it to me as soon as he got them! Even went to the restaurant and told me that he wanted to give it right away as I might be worried that I've lost it. That proved that they're very attentive to their guests and they make them their priority. Impressive.

The room was great, very relaxing and very very very clean. The downtown area where it's situated is good too. Very convenient. Amidst the price, to me it is in every way reasonable.

For a reasonable hotel in SF, this place is great.  We had a very large room with 2 queen beds, plus a fold out couch.  The staff were friendly, and the free wi-fi and cds to watch in the room were a real hit with my kids.

It's on the edge of Chinatown and Union Sq. and easy to get everywhere.  It's also very nice that it is a certified green hotel.

Great hotel, great location.  I stayed with my family and it was comfortable, quiet and central to Chinatown, Union Square and downtown.  It's also nice to be just outside of the Union Square tourist cluster, yet close enough to walk into the heart of it within minutes.  The valet parking situation is slow (and pricey, but welcome to San Fran) and the restaurant is expensive and not overly interesting (I would probably avoid the breakfast at Roots), but everything else about the hotel is really great.  Another nice thing is the rooftop terrace; we grabbed our breakfast from Starbucks across the street and sat up on the roof by ourselves looking out over the city.  If you don't want to do the monster hotels or pay for one of the big fancy service hotels, then this place is about as perfect as it gets.I look forward to staying there again.

Bf's company set everyone up at Orchard Garden Hotel for a company x'mas party. I was glad to be his guest. We get to the hotel and immediately someone helps us with the bags and brings it into the lobby before we're even done paying the cab driver. We had a relatively quaint room with a King sized bed, closet with a safe and iron/board, a bathroom with a decent sized bathtub that doesn't ever overflow. Nice! They also have a teeny-tiny gym with three cardio machines. Pretty nice considering it's free. They also have a decent sized FREE DVD collection that you can watch in your room. It's not very updated but it's pretty decent. Don't expect classics unless you want something five years ago.  The only thing I noticed, in a negative light, is that there was only one front desk person at peak hour on a Saturday night. They should've had back-up but he was nice enough to try and call a taxi for us since it was outrageous how long we had to wait. We also noticed you can't leave the heater on by itself. The lights and heating/ac system are all connected.

Here's a helpful hint though:  Unscrew the light bulbs next to the bed. The heater will still be on. (^_^)

First hotel in SF to get the hallowed LEED certification for environmentally responsible design and operation.

Other pluses: brand new hotel (and thus all new facilities), modern aesthetic, downtown location, and all the amenities you'd expect from a top-notch hotel.  This is my hotel rec for all visitors to the best city on earth....

Another plus: you can even get a room for under $200.  Wow. and Zowie too.

This boutique hotel is a gem situated in the best location in San Francisco for discovering the city.  This was my third trip to SF in the past year and I've stayed at a different small hotel each time, hoping I'd find one that was perfect.  I have!  It has 80 rooms which affords both privacy and attention from the staff.  The staff goes the extra mile by promptly servicing your room and turning down your bed in the early evening.  The beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms are modern with good water pressure.  They also have a free DVD movie collection you can borrow from, so I watched Alcatraz after taking a tour of the prison.  Many great restaurants are located close by for dining and even when the nearby financial district gets quiet on the weekends, it's a pleasant walk to North Beach or the Embarcadero.  I will definitely return!

Orchard Garden Hotel is conveniently located and an all-around a great place to stay while in San Francisco. It is decorated modern, not over-the-top, with a touch of eco-friendly decor. The hotel is extremely clean. The receptionists, managers, and bell men are exceptionally nice and extremely helpful -- they will go out of their way to make your stay a pleasant one.

I love the small size, location, and overall appeal of this eco-friendly hotel. I 100% recommend it for someone looking for a casual and convenient place to stay in San Francisco.

Stayed 3 nights, 3 days. Would stay here again.
Did not use the restaurant but it did look nice and the menu was okay. I did have a drink at their bar in the restaurant one night. Room was very comfortable and it was quiet and overall the decor was nice and a good layout. Bathroom was good - shower had good water pressure, about 10 ft wide. Room also had a desk with a flat screen TV over it - but picture quality was poor to fair on most channels, although I only watched a few of the news channels, no TV shows, but seemed like no HD. There is a small roof garden with a few tables and chairs.
It is located in the financial district near the western border with chinatown, it is very near the entrance/gates to Chinatown at the corner of Bush and Grant, also close to union square, close to BART. No parking facility at the hotel but I did not have a car on this trip.

Great hotel -- "clean, green, and central" is a great way to describe it. Not much was open in the Financial District on a weekend, but the hotel was an easy walk to the Embarcadero and North Beach, it's about 50 yards from the Chinatown Gate, and it would be an easy walk to SoMa and elsewhere, including the Powell St cable line.

The room was good size, not huge, but very clean and roomy enough, with a view of Bush St. The bed was amazingly comfortable. Whatever it was I wish I could get it for home. I slept like a baby.

Room service was good -- the food was better than expected, even if the room service staff was a little unfriendly.

One of the things I loved about this hotel is that it's green -- LEED certified. Recycling bins for paper and plastic/cans in the rooms. Organic bath products (EO -- love that line). And you have to put your room key in a little thing by the door to turn the lights on, so you can't leave the lights on when you leave. Pretty neat.

My only regret was that I didn't stay long enough to try the bar, and it was raining too hard to enjoy the roof deck, which had a pretty fun view of the area. But there's an Irish bar (Irish Bank) almost directly across the street, and that was fun too.

I need to preface this review by saying that the 5 star rating is based on the super cheap deal we got on Orbitz.  If we were to pay full price (about twice what we paid), the rating might be 4 stars (but then again maybe not).

We came here for our honeymoon, and it was amazing.  We had a room on the top floor, which was exciting except that we had a view of an alley and nothing else.  The room is on the small side, but the space is used well enough that we weren't yearning for more.

As others have said, the bed is WONDERFUL.  Large, lush, plush, and warm.  Our room had a big widescreen HDTV, but unfortunately only a few HD channels.  Oh well.

The bathroom was huge, and - contrary to what someone else posted - our shower was great.  No pressure problems at all.

The staff was exceptionally helpful at all hours and were always able to give directions.  That probably has something to do with the fact that the hotel is within walking distance of just about anything.

Sure, the decor is less extensive than most hotels, and maybe even a bit "coldly" modern in places, but I really liked that.  It really helps to take the relatively small spaces of the hotel and make them feel more open and, well, spacious.

If we get the same deal again, we'll definitely return.  I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great, green hotel in an amazing location (again, especially if you can get a deal!).

We were in a corporate party i.e. lots of rooms booked and one of our colleagues complained about how small and dark their room was.  The hotel while in a great location has some small rooms and a lot of them have not very interesting views.  Ours had a bad view but I didn't really care about that as I wasn't spending a lot of time in the room.

The bed was very comfortable I have to say, I am finding I am staying in more Hotels where I get better sleep than I do at home.  This leads me to believe I need to invest in new bedding and mattresses.  If I could take the bed home I would.,

The hotel itself was pretty bland, decor was fresh and modern enough though, bedrooms bland but nice enough and well thought out.

While I am all for eco hotels having crap showers really won't do.  I imagine it must be some water saving attachment but the pressure was rubbish.   It defeats the object as you have to spend twice as much time in the shower to get the same effect so basically the shower was completely useless.  OK it did the job but it's not what you want first thing in the morning.

The staff were all incredibly helpful and friendly which is a nice plus for hotels.  You felt they gave a damn which is always nice to hear and see in any hotel.

Breakfast I enjoyed thoroughly, it was included in our rate which was about $220 a night for a junior suite.  This is really just a slightly larger room that has 2 chairs and a table so you at least have somewhere to sit.  To call it a suite is a bit of a joke but it was sufficient space wise for us.  While the breakfast didn't include hot items or cappuccinos, you had to pay extra for that it was one of the better breakfasts I have had.  And boy I ate a lot, I loved the tomatoes and creating a toasted muffin with ham, cream cheese, cheese, tomato and boiled egg was delicious.

Free WIFI is always a help.  I hate it when hotels gouge you on this and try and charge you $20 a day or something.  This is basic stuff people it should be free and included.  Also the room had tea and coffee making facilities which is a massive plus for us.  As people know from my previous reviews I hate being gouged on room service.  Even without that, at 7am when I am walking around naked after showering or just waking up I do NOT want to deal with people or wait 20 minutes for a tepid cup of $12 coffee.  (Four Seasons take note).  In room Tea and Coffee is mandatory in my eyes.

So no real faults for this hotel apart from its bland ness and bad views neither of which are a real issue in a hotel.

Lots of pluses such as doing even a tiny bit more to help save the planet, great staff, fab breakfast and excellent location make this hotel a defo recommendation.

It has a tiny tiny gym which is a shame.  The kind of people that go to this kind of hotel are normally, based on what I saw, the kind of people that want these facilities.  To provide 1 running machine, 1 cross trainer and 1 bike is really unacceptable hence the loss of a star.  By 7am all machines are in use and some people never got exercise.

I saw a number of people who had to pay so check your booking.  It is quite reasonable though at $14 is you want the basic but great breakfast.  There is also a separate breakfast menu.

Do not review places or venues you have not been too.  I see far too many people on this site reviewing somewhere they haven't even been to.  Perhaps its a friend or a fake review but it is rather annoying. If you haven't used the facilities you have no right to review it.  Sorry chaps.

Nice hotel. Clean room, nice amenities, friendly staff, good food, great decor. We ordered room service twice. It would have been 3 times, but there was one day when I tried calling a couple times around 11:20 in the morning. I finally gave up.

Room service was delicious. They add a 20% service charge PLUS a $5 delivery charge.

Staff will hold your luggage at check-in if a room is not ready yet.

We stayed here for 8 nights, in two rooms. One room had terrible internet connection, the other room was totally fine. Just ask to switch to a different room if your connection is terrible. They have free wi-fi.

The roof-top terrace was ok. I was expecting spectacular, but the view isn't that great. Still, it's a great spot to read on a sunny day. I did not test out the internet connection on the roof-top.

On the last night of our stay, the guests in the next room turned on their tv a little past 11pm. I had to use earplugs to fall asleep. Then at 6:30am, I woke up to their tv again. I had wanted to sleep in, but it was too loud. I'm not sure if the walls were thin, or if the person just had the tv turned up too loud.

The hotel in-room guide mentions that the fitness room is on the 2nd floor. It is actually on the first floor, and they only have 3 cardio machines and a fitness ball. It's a really small room, and when we poked our head in, I felt a bit claustrophobic.

I would recommend this hotel if you can get it for a good price. Not worth it for the full rack price, that's for sure. We got a deal on Orbitz.

GREAT VALUE!  Room was extremely clean, albeit a little small.  Comfortable enough for a short stay.  If you are staying longer than a day or two, consider getting the suite from the sister hotel, The Orchard.  Like other SF hotels, this is a new "green" hotel.  As you enter the room, you place your key in a slot to turn on the lights and air, etc.  Very cool indeed.  The desk staff was very friendly as was the booking agent (Mary Jane) who helped me book the room at the last minute.  I will likely stay here again.

Great hotel!  Beds were comfortable, room was clean, helpful staff, great location, and quiet.  Parking was the only downfall, $40/day (but for that price it does come with in and out privileges and they pull your car up right in front).  On the second night we got smart and parked at the lot a block up the street, ended up being only $18.

Overall, great place to stay and wouldn't hesitate to come back again.

I was in town for a funeral and stayed here for 2 nights. I didn't rent a car, so don't have much experience with their parking situation. But it is very close to the area with all the shops (walking distance) and a cable car stop.

The bed was comfortable, the rooms were very clean and didn't smell funny and the staff was friendly. I thought the food was very overpriced, I ended up walking around and getting food from local restaurants. They're incredibly environmentally friendly (encourage you to use your towels more than once, your room key powers the electricity, etc)

This hotel gets 3 stars because the wi-fi was non existent, the water pressure was the equvelent of a garden hose, and I felt the room was incredibly overpriced for the size. (I think we payed about $300-$400 for a 2 bed)

The bf and I stayed here this weekend while celebrating his bday.  I found this place on expedia and since it got pretty good yelp reviews I decided to give it a try.  We were both really pleased with this place.  It is beautiful modern hotel nestled near Union Square and Chinatown.

The beds were so comfortable! I am sucker for a comfortable bed and this place had it, I loved luxuriating in the bed on Sunday morning.  The bf loved the robes they provided although we didn't find the slippers that they said should have been there.  We were able to request a late check out on Sunday afternoon so we didn't feel like we had to rush out of the room and we took our time.  The hotel staff was very friendly and accomodating helping us get a taxi on Sunday when we left and taking pictures of us before we left on Saturday night for dinner.  Bonus that the hotel was a block away from the restaurant I had chosen for dinner!

Overall this place is worth the stay.  I would recommned this place for anyone visiting SF.

I stay at this hotel often when I travel to SF for business. I was just here two weeks ago for a two-week period (so I lived here, you can say). I am back again for a week and staying here yet again because I liked it so much. The staff is very friendly. The beds are comfy. I did have to give it 4 stars instead of 5 because the water pressure in the showers can be a bit weak.

However, the location is perfect. When I was here last time, I had to stay the weekend. So, I had to keep myself busy [and had to do laundry]. There's a coin-laundry place right up the street, on Bush & Stockton (just passing the China Town gates). It's right next to China Town. Great place to eat and walk on weekends. It's very close to Union Square. I walked down Stockton, cut through one of the streets there, over to Powell and I was at Union Square--great shopping area.

Lastly, it has a small gym which I used (treadmill). It's hardly occupied so for those who want to get a workout in, enjoy. Also, every room comes with DVD player so either you can bring movies along to have something to watch on your down-time or you can bring your exercise DVDs with you (which is what I did).

One note about TV watching options: they are very limited at this hotel. Only a few cable channels and if you're there for an extended period (like I was for 2 weeks), it gets boring very fast. So, you can check-out DVDs at the front desk (free)--they have about 100 titles to choose from; or, bring your own.

Oh.... and, all rooms come w/flat screen TV mounted to the wall which creates much more space in the rooms. Again, highly recommend this hotel. :)

Parking: Easily metered in front of hotel, else go to Sutter-Stockton garage (one block up - , excellent overnight fees. The hotel, I believe charges $40 overnight.
Service: Great
Price: Excellent for the quality

I found OGH on hotels.com for a great rate in January. For about $100/night it was a steal given its location (about 3 blocks from Union Square), its comfort and amenities. Definitely the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on in any hotel. Clean, modern, updated, yummy bathroom toiletries, environmentally friendly, extremely plush comforter and free internet access on computers downstairs.

This hotel made my hubby's bday weekend memorable - even if we really didn't want to get out of that comfy bed on Sunday morning!

There's a reason this place is highly rated on Yelp and Tripadvisor. You will NOT be disappointed! I can't wait to return.

[OGH is located on Bush right next to the Chinatown gates. Their sister hotel, which we accidentally checked into, the Orchard Hotel, is farther up Bush]

I love the Orchard Garden, and all the employees.  I became very familiar with hotel over the last few months when we reserved a block of rooms for our May wedding.  Ben, our contact, gave a great tour of the place and once we booked he remained easy to contact and accommodating to all our needs.

Also, the location was ideal for all our out of town guests.  Chinatown is next door, and Union Square steps away.  Also the decor is lovely --clean, understated, but inviting at the same time. The hotel is only a couple years old, so everything is in great condition.

Also, the day after the wedding we had a breakfast in the Roots restaurant.  I was skeptical about 'hotel priced' European Continental Breakfast, but it was wonderful.  Fresh fruits, meats, hard boiled eggs and good scones. We seem to have the entire dining room to ourselves which made it lovely for mingling.

Yes, I highly reccomend.

We stayed here because the reviews were so amazing. I do think it's a nice hotel and a great deal for the rate, but I am not sure it's particularly "special" as the online hype had suggested to me. the rooms are nice but small. The bathrooms are extraordinarily large in comparison--not really necessary! Comfy beds, nice linens and great toiletries.

Free internet, soft bed and robes. Thats it. No fridge for your awesome italian leftovers. No free bottles of water. No parking ($40 is the cheapest to part nearby--3 blocks away). No tub. Sliding bathroom door so your spouse or hooker can hear and smell you taking a dump. I know this because I was on the other side of the door trying to watch t.v....and no I did not have a hooker, I have self-respect about my lady-parts. LOL. My view for the $140 stay was the middle of the building, and 3 other peoples windows and a vent. BTW...Chinatown sucks balls, go to Little Italy and the boardwalk, and take the trolley...but you HAVE to be one of the people hanging off the side--if its your first time. So much fun.

Totally Green concept in this hotel.

Everything from recycling bins to lights that need your card to turn on.  Cool idea in a hotel and I bet it's saving the earth in some fashion or another.

So being a glass is half full kind of gal, lets start with the pros:

(1) Bed was very comfortable!
(2) Room was nicely decorated
(3) Lovely bathrobes
(4) In-room DVD with free movies in lobby is great
(5) Free wi-fi!!!!
(6) Killer rate through Orbitz
(7) Location is A+ for access to Chinatown and lots of pricey shopping nearby.
(8) Room was very very clean and in really good shape
(9) Great to include Ipod docking station

(1) Sheets and towels quite scratchy. Is there no organic fabric softener?
(2) Parking at $40 a day? Seriously...
(3) Front desk staff was underwhelming...
(4)  The biggest grip I have is that I booked it on Orbitz and I think when we checked in at the hotel, they gave us a room for physically disabled....in that everything was at crotch height. My traveling companion is 6'4" so you can imagine....

And when I needed to book one more night, the staff said to go through Orbitz to get the same rate...so they sent me back to my room to book another night. Kinda weird dontcha think?
(5) Mini-bar, meh
(6) TV on wall...doesn't swivel and reception so-so (great t.v but no hi-def...so fuzzy)

So I must end this now because I'm getting laughed at by my 6'4" traveling companion for being so anal about the list...

We actually were suppose to stay at the Orchard Hotel in a two twin bed room, but when we got there they asked us if we wanted to upgrade our rooms to two doubles over at the Orchard Garden. We agreed and got the new room at the same price + 2 free glasses of wine.

The Orchard Garden Hotel is such a great place to stay. This was my first time staying in the city. The hotel is near EVERYTHING! You can eat lunch in china town and walk back over to union for some shopping. The great location is one of the reasons why i really like this place.

The rooms are really comfortable and clean. The bed is perfect, one of the best sleeps i've had staying in a hotel. Also i love that everything is "green".

Okay so when you come to SF, you have to go out and eat at all the great restaurants , but if you happen to be back in your room needing a little snack, you must get the room service garlic fries! you must!

and my last thing is the valet  parking. It's $40 per 24 hour period. yeah it's pricey, but they are responsible for your car, so they'll take care of it. also you can get you car in and out as you please. just call the front desk about 20mins before you want to leave and the car will be in front just in time for wherever your going.  I believe the valet parking is worth every penny.

I'm staying here for a couple of weeks on business and overall I love the hotel, the location and the staff.  Rooms a good size, modern and eco-friendly, if that's your thing.

A couple of minor points, the "fitness" center is lacking with only one treadmill, two elliptical machines and an exercise ball in a very small room.  Also, the rooftop is far from a garden and more like a rooftop deck with some plants around the edges.  I was expecting a lush garden of eden or something so maybe my expectations were out of line but with that space I would have a fountain and do something cool with it.  Again, it's a nice view and great place to hang out but seems like a missed opportunity to really wow people.

Other than those minor points, I would definitely stay here again - especially if I needed access to the financial district for work or play.

I thought this hotel was fine. Very clean and friendly staff. Free wi-fi and it worked great. No loud noises during the night and cool clock radio that worked with my Ipod. Really enjoyed my stay here few weeks back. First, the staff is very friendly; I had asked to check out late at 2PM, and a room with no one on either side and the front desk made it happen with a smile. King bed was VERY comfortable & clean and the room is spacious; its definitely more than enough room for 2. Has a built in iHome on the nightstand.

Bathroom has no lock and there wasn't a view, but that's just nitpicking considering all the positives to this hotel!

Stayed here for the weekend and had a great time.  Location is awesome, one building away from Chinatown main gate.  Everything is walking distance.  Not once did we use our car.  We got lucky and found free street parking in front of the church.  We walked everywhere!  Union Square, Metreon, Yerba Buena Gardens, Market Street and Chinatown.  Only time we took a cab was to Pier 3 for our Hornblower dinner.  Taxi fare was $6.25!

Awesome green hotel with the comfiest bed and sheets I've ever been on.  I actually like their bed better than Westin St. Francis' heavenly bed!  The room is small but insanely clean.  The bathroom is  gleaming!   There's a small fridge and ihome radio/dock.  The design is minimalist with a zen like concept.

The staff is friendly and unpretentious.  I had a wonderful stay!

Every once in a while, you're surprised.

That's for staying at the Orchard Garden.

I'm camping out here for the next two days until I can move in to an apartment close by, and booked the room because of the less expensive rate. I knew I was going to get killed on parking the car ($40 a night), but that's the only downside, and not their fault (someone else owns the parking garage). Outside of that, no complaints, because...

- It's near EVERYTHING. Union Square is two blocks away. The touristy part of Chinatown starts two doors away (seriously, complete with shops where they'll work with you on price). The Ferry Building and Market Street are within walking distance. The restaurants outside of the restaurant are great, and read like an international guide (Irish, French, Thai, Hawaiian, Chinese, Italian, etc.). A few bars close. Two Starbucks, close.

- The rooms are smartly designed. The place is environmentally friendly -- you have to plug your room card in to turn on the lights -- and very comfortable. They aren't elegant like the Fairmont or Hopkins, but the clean design and nice color scheme reflects the environmental nature of the hotel. The design of the room uses space well (the television is mounted high above the desk area = smart), and the bathrooms are nice. The bed is super comfortable, and so was the desk area.

- The staff is super friendly. Other than not getting an early check in (remember, boutique hotel, small staff), they were more than accommodating to all of my requests, watched my car full of my things while the valet came, brought my bags up when I did get in, and even made an extra trip right away when they accidentally brought the wrong bag. Trusted them with some expensive things, and they didn't go missing.

- I didn't get nickel and dimed. The WiFi was free. The business center is free for prints, one time. There wasn't water that had a price tag, and I didn't feel like I was going to get charged for everything. Nice, considering the state of travel now.

We stayed here for five days: two adults, one three-year old, two double beds and a nice couch that we pulled up next to one of the beds.  It was quiet and clean - the two most important factors for us.  We slept soundly at night and had a wonderful vacation as a result.

Other nice features:  big TV, DVD player, iPod charging station, green features, roof-top patio, yummy restaurant (egg white omelette was excellent; we also ordered room service which was delicious as well).

I would return tomorrow, if I could.

We stayed here for my friend's birthday last month and I was very impressed with the hotel. I love the fact that it's a green hotel! Recycling bins, organic cleaning products, room key needed to turn on lights (so you can't leave them on when you leave the room)

The staff was very helpful and friendly. They offered some great recommendations of bars and restaurants in the area. We brought drinks and some appetizers but forgot cups and plates and they were more than willing to bring them up to us.

My friend booked it the day before and got a decent rate (I think it was about $150) for the two queen bed room. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room was very clean. There was an iPhone charger and dock with the alarm clock. The hotel was located close to the club we were planning on going to and there were some fun bars within walking distance.

Only drawback was that the restaurant in the lobby closed early but there are plenty of other restaurants in the area (including a subway across the street)

Don't get this confused with the Orchard Hotel which is a block away (one of the girls in our group showed up at the wrong place!!)

Wonderful Hotel! :)

Stayed here this past weekend with my friend and had a fantastic stay! We were both here for a mini spring break vacation. We stayed 3nights 4days and absolutely loved it! First of all I found this hotel through yelp and after reading the good reviews, I decided book it. Upon arriving to the hotel I was very much pleased :) The hotel was very modern/new looking and pretty much right in the middle to EVERYTHING! Chinatown was right next door so, peeeerfect! We were planning on making a stop there so it was nice to have it a couple feet away from us to walk there. So Im going to make this short and sweet :)

-Walking distance to everything! We hit a couple bars our first night and then just walked back to our room all tipsy lol :)

-They are a green hotel! They recycle everything, use organic products and I love how the key cards turn off the lights when your leaving the room. This is such a good saving energy concept.

-The beds are soo comfty and soft! I was warm the whole night :)

-The front desk/valets/housekeeping were very nice. They helped us with everything and gave us directions to the Muni stops and busses we had to take to all the places we were going to. One of the guys at night around 2am gave us the number to a local delivery pizza joint which was super helpful cuz we were starving when we got back from the bars! lol Too bad the pizza came around 4am! WTF?! lol we were knocked out by then! lol

-Super clean hotel. The housekeeping ladies did such a good job cleaning our room :)

-Free wi-fi!

-Our room had a mini fridge which was perfect, thing is tho that it didnt work the first night we were there so we used ice instead to keep our drinks cold but check this out, so the next day we see that our fridge has been replaced by a new one because it opened up the other way and it was working! Yayyy I never told the staff our fridge didnt work, I guess they read our minds or something lol

-They have a dope roof top deck with a sick view of SF! Check it out!

-I was able to groove to the jams on my iphone with their ipod deck :)

-No noise complaints! Yayyy but I was still prepared with earplugs haha

Cons: Parking! Dam its honestly a B***H! Super expensive so we just decided to park somewhere else close by instead which turned out cheaper! So park at the St Mary's Square Garage trust meee! lol

-No free breakfast =\ but check out Cafe de La Presse! Its right across the street and its sooo yummy!

Overall a wonderful hotel experience! Will definitely be staying here again :)

CONS: rooms are small (even for SF), Wifi although present had weak signal, valet parking was $40 (yikes!)

Reviewing Christmas Eve stay 2010.

Hotel was ideally situated just a few minutes walk from Union Square.  I got the room deal where an apple pie was given to the Salvation Army as well as I received an apple pie - they were miniature apple pies with a nice, flaky crust.  I am not an apple pie girl and yet I found this pie to be very tasty.  Also on check-in, I received a card welcoming me to the hotel signed by the manager himself which also included an invitation for a free glass of wine from the Daffodil restaurant.  I ended up getting the wine that evening and they let me take it up to my room.

The room: on the 8th floor with a view of the street below and a few buildings - okay.  The bathroom was simple, modern, and clean.  The bed was very soft and comfy - very welcoming.  A maid knocked on the door in the evening asking if I wanted a turn-down service.  Free newspaper.  Room temperature - perfect.

I walked around Union Square in the evening and saw Macy's, the ice-skating rink, and ate dinner at a sushi restaurant around the corner.  I was afraid the restaurant would be kind of empty on Christmas Eve but there were around 8 tables so it felt cozy.

On Christmas day, I went to the French Church about a 5-minute walk up the same street - they had a Mass at 10:30a.m. in French.  It was misting a bit but with the short walk, I weathered it easily.  Mass was pleasant.  The Church itself is lovely and the Christmas decorations with all of the poinsettias was really nice.

I told The Orchard Garden Hotel that I may be a bit late from Church so they let me check out at 1:00pm (usual check out is 12:00pm) which was nice so I did not feel like I had to rush.  Re: parking: valet parking is $40 which I did not use.  I parked a couple of streets up and took a chance that they would not be sticklers on enforcing the 2-hr limit between 6-9pm and ended up being okay.

The bottom dollar - $109 plus tax and 2 free mini, yummy apple pies came to around $130.  I think that is a steal considering we were basically a stone's throw from Union Square.  And I ended up helping the needy at the Salvation Army.  And I helped the environment by staying at at Green Hotel.  And I had a lovely Christmas.

When I arrived to The Orchard Garden Hotel the staff who greeted me were very friendly. I was told that I had been upgraded at no charge and made sure I knew how to get to my room.

I ordered room service my first night at the hotel and when I called down, the woman at the restaurant was very helpful and able to tell me what she liked best. The food arrived right when they said it would and it was delicious!

All of the hotel staff from the people at the front desk to housekeeping were very friendly and willing to help and give recommendations on places to eat or where to walk. I was in town for the San Francisco Half Marathon and when my friends and I headed out in the morning the gentleman behind the front desk made sure we had everything and offered safety pins for our race numbers.

The hotel is one building away from the gate to Chinatown and a short walk to Union Square and many amazing restaurants as well as about a 10 minute walk to North Beach.

I would definitely recommend The Orchard Garden Hotel to anyone wanting to stay at a nice and friendly hotel.

- Good cleaning staff
- Well worth the price and location
- Free DVD rentals available

- Need some more room in our room to walk in front of the bed
- Fitness center needs some weights and some more breathing room

We stayed at Hotel Monaco the previous night and compared to that, this hotel was pretty lame. Boring, lame, dumb. No character. Cheap decor. Tiny gym with cheapo equipment. You can't even open the window for fresh air. We felt like we were suffocating.

It's a good location and a decent deal, room was newish and clean but that's pretty much it. Boring!

There are much better places to stay.

What an excellent stay I had at the Orchard Garden Hotel. This past weekend I celebrated my best friends birthday in the city - part of the plans were to get a hotel for the evening so all of us wouldn't have to stumble back to our homes. I did some research the weeks prior and found this hotel, on expedia.com I got a room for $99! This was an awesome deal for what the hotel looked like. I was even more impressed when I got there Saturday.

Here's the list of pluses:
1. The hotel is only a couple blocks from Union Sq and neighbors the Chinatown entrance. My friends and I all took public transportation from different places around the bay area and all found it walking distance from the Bart/Ferry Building. When I called the hotel they told me parking was nearly impossible so we took different routes of transport and it worked out well for all of us.

2. The people at the front desk were super friendly and helpful. Our room wasn't ready when I got there at 3 so for the 15mins I had to wait they upgraded me to a double view!

3. The rooms were clean and looked just like I expected based on the website pictures. The beds were comfortable and the linens were fresh and plush, and I didn't even feel like I needed to wear shoes around the room. When I left I wanted to purchase their comforter. My friends and I loved the yen like feeling and the freshness of it all.

4. Amenities. For the first 15mins in the room my friend I were opening peeking and looking at all the stuff the room offered. EO organic shampoos/soaps, iPod dock (which we used), HD tv, recycling bins, snacks, a drink fridge.

5. It's ALL GREEN, seriously. It felt nice to be in a place that carefully considered the environment. Yay!

My friends and I all agreed we'd come stay here again for our future girls nights out!

A girlfriend and I stayed here for four nights in March. We flew in to SFO, took BART, and walked the few blocks to the hotel. So, no car worries for us. The location of this hotel is great--we were within walking distance to the Moscone Center (for a conference) and tons of great food places.

I'm a big fan of being as environmentally responsible as one can be these days, and this hotel does a great job of promoting environmentally responsible practices. For example, your hotel room has a trash bin and recycle bin with separate compartments for paper and bottles/cans. To turn on anything electric, you have to place your key card into a slot next to the door. When you leave, everything turns off.

PROS: Friendly service. The front desk was very helpful with suggestions about where to eat and what to do. We stayed out late a couple of nights, and the doorman greeted us with smiles as he let us in. Great breakfast. Clean, nice decor, and a rooftop garden.

CONS: None that I can really think of. I'm not too picky as long as the hotel is clean. I can see how some people would be put off by the sliding bathroom door, but it didn't bother me.

Overall, I would definitely come back to this hotel.

So happy we stayed here this past weekend! I chose this hotel based on reviews here on Yelp, the hotel's own website, its "green" status, and the location. It not only lived up to my expectations, it exceeded them. I'd give four and a half stars if Yelp allowed for half stars.

The building and area: Nice looking outside, beautifully appointed lobby, lovely details throughout and nice looking restaurant, though we never ate there. Right next to the Chinatown gate, tons of great restaurants and shops in the area, easy to get to Union Square and the cable cars. We liked the neighborhood a lot.

The staff: Uniformly and genuinely friendly and helpful. Staff would say "hello, welcome back!" whenever we'd come back to the hotel from an excursion, or give a friendly greeting when we'd encounter them in the hotel somewhere, and we were given good directions and recommendations.

The room: Pretty, soothing, comfortable, with lots of thoughtful amenities, and spacious enough. Gorgeous bathroom. We stayed in room 601, a standard King room. The view was of the back of a building, not attractive at all, but we didn't really care. It was quiet--didn't hear noise from the street or from other rooms. The only thing that might annoy someone is that it was right next to housekeeping and there was sometimes stuff piled in the hall, but it never bothered me.

My husband immediately made into his own "man cave area" out of the comfy couch and side table area by the window. I set up my laptop on the long desk with comfortable chair and hung out there or on the very comfortable king size bed, which was outfitted with soft, high quality linens and pillows. The free high speed wireless internet was easy to set up and worked great.

A basket full of delicious looking snacky items and personal care stuff is on the desk, tempting, and the mini fridge is packed with drinks, but one look at the menu and the realization that you'd have to take out a second mortgage on your house to be able to afford that chocolate bar or can of cashews snaps you right out of the urge to sample. Go to the Walgreens not too far away or the Starbucks across the street or bring your own drinks and snacks to save yourself sticker shock.

The only downside to that mini fridge is it's already full--of the hotel's stuff. You'd have to unload it all and store it somewhere if you wanted to actually put your own things in it.

Nitpicky things: The towels were nothing to get too excited about--standard, not terribly plush but not super thin either. There was only one tiny tiny bar of soap provided for our two day stay--I think they should have at least provided one for the sink and one for the tub. I didn't use the provided tiny shampoo or conditioner, but did use the bath gel one night for a nice hot bath. The tub, by the way, was nice--not a true soaker tub, but deeper and wider than your standard tub and comfy to lie in.

The sliding door to the bathroom slid all the way shut but does not lock, and one can definitely hear sounds and smell smells, so I'd say if you were travelling with a companion you weren't intimate with...you might be a wee bit self-conscious.

Go up to the rooftop deck, day or night, for great views!

Food: We went across the street to Cafe de la Presse for breakfast twice in a row and loved it! The food was great, the coffee was divine, the service was fast and friendly.

Other restaurants in the immediate area we tried & recommend: Uncle Vito's Pizza, Cafe Claude, California Golden Cookies, and the aforementioned Starbuck's across the street. Bangkok Best, however...not so much. I would definitely not go there again.

Anyway--we loved staying at this hotel, and would definitely stay there again.

I stayed at the Orchard Garden last week. What a treat! It's a beautiful hotel, built in 2006, with comfortable rooms and an attentive staff. It was also just a block from where I was temporarily working.  The staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. I had a meal at the hotel restaurant and it was so good, I had all my meals there. The cook is superb, and the waitress friendly and helpful. I have never enjoyed a stay at a hotel in the United States as much  -- and I've been traveling for over 30 years. The location for a tourist is fun as well, right at the gates of Chinatown, and not far from anything in downtown SF. By the way, if you want to see an authentic Asian neighborhood, visit Buford Highway in Atlanta, or the Korean section of Duluth and Swanee, Georgia (NE of Atlanta). Those are large Asian areas built by and for Asians not for tourists. The food is authentic Vietnamese-Chinese-Korean-Indonesian, etc. and includes hybrids like a few Mexican-Vietnamese restaurants. (Why not. New York has Cuban Chinese restaurants, even Kosher Cuban Chinese eateries.)

I love this hotel!!  It is environmentally friendly, has a great location, is super clean & free internet - it will make just about anyone happy.  =)   The standard rooms are a bit small (the bed is about 1.5 to 2 feet away from the edge of the desk) but there are many other factors that make the hotel worth the stay.

What I LOVE...
* The bed!  It is by far the best hotel bed I have ever slept on...whenever you lay down it basically puts you right to sleep.
* ipod alarm clock (that also charges)
* a dvd player (bring your own movies or borrow from the front desk)
* flat-screen TV (spent lots of time watching TLC's What Not to Wear)
* free Wi-fi (they give you a passcode for this)
* Impeccably clean bathroom (spotless everything, low pressure water flow in the shower though)
* recycling bins for bottles & paper in the room (a great idea that other hotels should follow)
* energy conservation (your hotel key controls the power so you don't waste electricity while you're out)

* location is close to EVERYTHING!  Chinatown gate is practically next door...Union Square is 3-4 blocks away & Powell St. with cable cars is two streets down.  The BART is about 3 blocks away & even though the hotel has valet parking ($40 a day) ,there's the Sutter/Stockton parking garage that has much better rates just up the street less than a block away.  Even though the hotel is close to lots of places, it's away from the heavy crowds and traffic (which I really like).

* lots of local & chain restaurants nearby - two French restaurants, Irish pub, Starbucks, Subway, bagel/sandwich shop all across the street...walk a little further and find Thai food, Chinese food (in Chinatown), Cuban food and more...you'll find just about anything for a picky eater

* Staff was very friendly...always greeted us as we walked in and out

* Extremely good rates for such a nice hotel...I would expect to pay twice as much as I did for all the amenities and cleanliness I experienced here.

Bottom line - I would definitely stay here again & would highly recommend to my friends.  =)

Heart of the City! Parking was not too tough in these parts and not a rough area so you don't have to worry about holding your purse close to your body. There is a 7-11 not too far down the road and plenty of taxis if you ever need one.

Gorgeous. With a capital G. We stayed here with some friends during Halloween and we were blown away with how clean, spacey, and modern the rooms were. Especially since this was just one of their standards rooms. Oh and you definitely can't forget about the Green! Again, capital G... They are a green building so in order to conserve energy, you have to place your key card in the slot to operate all electricity in the room. Major Plus guys, MAJOR.

The best out there. Like I mentioned earlier, we had a late late night. You need to be buzzed in after a certain time but the employee manning the door was always happy to see us as we traveled in and out. Also, front desk was very accommodating, we entered and left with a smile.

Rock on Orchard Garden..for making this world a cleaner place.

I used to walk past this hotel easily 3 or 4 times every single day on my way to and from work and to get lunch, and never gave it much thought aside from "That looks slightly nicer than most of the non-Ritz hotels around here."  Well, that and that the doormen were always very pleasant to us locals while we ducked the tourists posing in front of the lion gates to Chinatown.

Fast forward to a visit with friends in SF, spring of 2010, and after 3 nights of staying out into the wee hours and shuffling between two very generous besties' couches, I decided to treat myself to a hotel for my last night in town. Fire up hotels.com and look for Deals. What appears but the Orchard Garden for $89/night! Done.

I arrived around 11 am and my room was ready, so I dropped off my bags and got a totally excellent hotel golf umbrella for the fog-drizzle [frizzle], and spent the day doing my 'oh my goodness I miss this city so much' errands [haircut, shopping on Union St, sitting and staring at the Bay from the Pac Heights hills, etc], and just generally pampering myself with some much-needed quiet time.  The Orchard Garden has lovely lovely bath products, fluffy robes, great showers, delightful comfy beds, and was just what the doctor ordered to end my long weekend. The next day, I got a late checkout, had the front desk store my bags, and had a relaxing final day in preparation for my red-eye back to the East.  I'm glad that after breezing by its doors for the better part of a year, I finally got to stay and appreciate its calming serenity.

And did I mention that it's less than 50 yards to Rickhouse? That alone adds at least 2 stars.

Orchard Garden is a "green" (LEED-certified) hotel on the bustling block next to the entrance to Chinatown.  I can't remember how I learned about them, but I always try to book eco-aware lodging when I travel, mainly because I care about the environment, but also because I have many allergies and places that don't douse everything in chemicals go over big with me.
The hotel is intimate.  It's like a silo within the larger building, which doesn't mean it's not nice; I mean it's narrow and tall.  The decor is simple, the staff are quite nice and efficient, check-in/-out were a breeze, and I didn't itch or sneeze once the whole time I was there!
I'd love to give Orchard Garden four stars, but there were some drawbacks for me:  1.  a large mirror on the sliding door to the bathroom faced the bed, which is a big feng shui no-no; 2.  the tv was mounted so that there was no way to sit directly in front of it (the DVD player in the room was nice to have, though, and I did relax with an episode of "No Reservations" after walking 10+ miles that day, having brought my Netflix DVD with me); 3.  there was no lid on the toilet, which was another feng shui no-no and just gross; 4. the water flow in the shower--not the water pressure--was erratic.
I completed the feedback form and told them about the water problem in the shower.  I hope they can do something about it because if I stay there on my next trip to SF and the water stops while I'm in the middle of my shower again, I am not going to be happy.
BTW, I got a great rate by liking OG's Facebook page, and they put me on the 10th (top) floor.  That was cool.

Rooms looked nice.  Loved that they had a couch.  Loved the sliding door to the bathroom and the autoswitch in the room with the card.  The Eco friendly and design of the hotel was nice and the staff were pleasant, valeted our car and had a staff help bring our luggage to our room.

But what made it less - one of the sheets on the bed was torn, the handle on the toilet was broken, the shower head was not screwed all the way, no water machine....little things that made it a little less than perfect.

Excellent area, close to union square and china town.

I stayed at the Orchard Garden for a couple of days and it was a perfect jump off point for many food and shopping stops.

I like to walk when visiting a city and from the hotel, I was able to visit Chinatown, Union Square, SOMA, the Ferry Building, House of Prime Rib, Lombard Street, North Beach and Coit Tower by foot.  If you know SF geography, the distances I covered may be a bit high, but again, I like walking.  The only destinations that I didn't make by foot was the CA Academy of Sciences and the deYoung.

Besides the location, there are a few other things that stand out for me.  I usually like to use the hotel gym, but OG's gym is pretty bare bones.  With all of my walking, I didn't end up using the gym anyway.  As for the room, it was small but comfortable.  I believe that their in-room desks were described as large, but this description is ludicrous.  In order to fit my 15" laptop on the desk, I had to move the lamp, phone and a caddy to accommodate it.  One thing that I loved was the balcony garden.  It makes for a great chill out spot in the evening.  If it's a hot day, you'll get sunburned if you spend too much time out there.  There's no respite from the sun (trees, umbrellas) and it has a southern exposure.

The OG promotes its environmentally conscious design features and LEED status but this wasn't a big concern for me.  I was, however, reminded of this sensitivity every time I left and entered my room.  The lights don't turn on or off unless you slip you door key card into/out of a slot next to the door.

I liked OG most for its location and it's price on Orbitz.  If you want to hit a lot of SF destinations by foot and stay in an environmentally friendly and cute boutique hotel, the Orchard Garden will fulfill all of your hospitality needs.

Great hotel.  It's new, it's green (LEED rated!), and you'll get a good night sleep.  The decor is not traditional luxurious - you won't find deep golds and burgundies here.  But everything's all light and green and sorta zen-like.  To activate the lights, you need to put your room key into a slot by the door.  I think the toilets are low-flow, though don't quote me on that.  No strong scents and the EO toiletries are fabulously scented.

And the beds are clean and comfy.  As are the robes.  The room itself is on the smaller side, but I'd give it up for the comfort of staying somewhere this nice.  Plus, free wifi.  It's not super-fast, since they want you to pay for high-speed but it's doable.

There's a big flat-screen TV with basic cable, and the bathrooms are really clean (okay, I'm obsessed with clean hotel rooms).  There's also a few cute seats and the normal hotel amenities - coffeemaker, glasses, iron, etc.

The location is near Grant & Bush - right at the entrance to Chinatown.  Which means that you don't have to walk up the arduous Nob Hill and it's a quick walk to the Montgomery or Powell BART stations.  Plus, it's close to both work and touristy activities.

This hotel is outstanding in every way.  The staff is the friendliest, most helpful staff I have ever experienced at a hotel.  The room was always serviced extremely well, no matter how late in the day I actually left the room.  The location is excellent for exploring San Francisco.  Our room was on the top (10th) floor and we had an amazing view of the San Francisco skyline, a nicely laid out king size bed main room, and a HUGE bathroom with double sinks, a bathtub, and a separate glass-walled shower.  If you're visiting San Francisco, stay at this hotel.  You'll get much more personalized service than from one of the chains, and you'll still get the exceptional quality of cleanliness, quiet, and comfort.  Highly recommended!

We were so happy with this hotel.  It's modern and clean and in a fantastic part of town right at the entrance to China Town.  The pillows, mattress, TV and shower heads are all comfortable andl work great.

The help staff was helpful with good suggestions.  We'll remember this for the future as it's priced fairly, even though it's in the heart of the city. Thank you to the other yelpers for their suggestion to park across the street at the Sutter street parking garage. Our only difficulty with that was in finding the entrance to the parking garage. Once we did find it, we were right next to the Bush street area.

One other small thing is that there's a nice French style coffee shop across the street.

I feel like I have stayed in every hotel in the Union Square area and I can now honestly say, that this hotel is my favorite and that I will definitely be telling our secretary to book me here in the future.

Staff: So friendly. Why do I start with staff? As a business' staff are the first persons you will ever encounter at any hotel, their attitude and demeanor can shape your entire stay. Crabby, pissed off staff? Not what I want to deal with after a flight and ride on the Bart and 5 block walk up Powell. Nice, courteous, helpful staff with happy, happy smiles? That is what I am talking about. They are very clear about explaining all the hotel has to offer, inquire about room requests, etc.

Room: Comfortable bed, great linens, room was spotless, heck I even admired the wallpaper. It has a very Zen feeling. Rooms for the Union Square area were very quiet. No earplugs needed! Bathroom was on the smaller side but this is generally the case with hotels in this area. Free Wi-Fi. You would be surprised on how rare this is becoming in the area's hotels.

Location: Great! Literally steps from China town, near the border of Union Square but no so much that it is hinder some.

Orchard Garden Hotel was a pleasant surprise.  I've walked past the "Gates to China Town" many times and not noticed OGH's unassuming presence in the same block.   The OGH was the first hotel in CA to obtain LEED Certification and it shows in the design, construction and operation of the facility.   First, without your door card in the activation slot near the room's entrance, the HVAC and most lighting are shut off. The room's layout is more than adequate for the bed and other furniture and while it may be judged as "small" compared to other larger hotels nearby, I've stayed in much smaller in NYC.  Besides who goes to SF to stay in the room most of the time?  The room is mostly a way station in a sleep, shower and bolt routine? The slim-depth TV is wall mounted up and out of the way, and the closet is positioned with doors out of the main walkway.  The bathroom's entrance has a large sliding door which maximizes available space. The bathroom facility is nicely designed, not cramped, clean and well maintained.  There was excellent water pressure and hot water in the showers. (I've stayed in places in SF where that isn't true...)  The bed was perfect for my picky back which generally cannot tolerate ultra firm mattresses often found in most hotels.  The room was quiet.  The service was on-the-spot.  The in-room wi-fi worked without a glitch.

My only bump was using the in-room safes - which can hold larger laptops. There's a little red button on right side of the interior door which must be pressed to reset the unit and it's hard to see b/c of the location.  When I asked the front desk for guidance, the hostess said that a lot of people have trouble with these units and they would send someone up and sure enough a few minutes later there was a knock on the door.  Once the red button was pointed out, the safe's electronics worked property.   I suggested a big arrow be placed on the back of the safe's door pointing to the obscured button as this does seem to be unique to this model.

Overall we did not have a view but we did not pay for a view either (see earlier comments...)  The hotel is fairly close to major bus lines.  The BART and Muni entry points only being a few blocks away.  There is an acclaimed organic restaurant located on the ground floor but we did not dine there as we had a long bucket list of places to hit in the city and were never there during peak dining hours.    Compared to some of the other larger hotels in the Union Square area, the OGH is a cozy, tucked away gem waiting to be discovered by more adventurous guests.   Cheers.

The hotel is really close to the china town gate, union square and the mall area. Great location!!! Check in was easy enough. They were pretty accommodating, attentive and professional.  We ran out of towels and they had some brought up in about 5 minutes. The rooms themselves are clean and super Eco friendly. Nicely sized rooms for a SF boutique hotel, and everything appears to be nicely kept up.  No weirdness with anything in the room - the renovation to turn this into a modern hotel wasn't just a paint job, the building was thoroughly brought up to date.

It's a great location right next to Chinatown and just north of Union Square.  Easy walking to the Financial District, Union Square, Chinatown, SoMa, and even North Beach/Telegraph Hill isn't that long of a trudge.

The staff are pleasant and efficient.  The lobby's nice and clean, with a decent enough bar and restaurant off to the side.

Nice touches - the neutral and green color scheme was relaxing after a long day.  The beds are comfortable and have, hands down, the most comfortable hotel-bed pillows I have ever slept on.  The desk/work area isn't intrusive into the room, nor is it cramped.  You put your room key-card into a slot next to the door to turn on the lights and climate control, and everything goes quiet when you leave.  It's a certified green building, too.

I'd definitely stay here again, and I'd probably recommend the Orchard Garden to others.

The curb-side service was AMAZING! "Quinn" made us feel like we were VERY IMPORTANT PEOPLE!  His service was impeccable!  He was friendly, courteous and his dining suggestions were AMAZING!!! (If you enjoy Authentic Italian Food, you MUST try Tommaso's in North Beach!) The room was beautiful and very clean. The view of the city was nice too. We took advantage of the valet parking, and even though we had checked out, we were able to leave our car in the garage and our luggage was stored in a locked closet until we returned that evening. (24 hours from check in) I definitely recommend this hotel.

Had a king-size bed to myself. Amazing.

1. Green
2. Zen-like interior. Very peaceful
3. The restaurant below was pretty decent! Not bad, Orchard Garden
4. The service was shhhhamazing. Really kind and attentive staff. Willing to go out of their way to search for services I needed, teach me how to use the cd player at 3 in the morning, and put up with my antics
5. Location is ideal for tourists
6. Has conference room and business center
7. Had an iPod charging/playing dock in the room (for some reason, though, it played my music but didn't charge my iTouch)
8. International staff. I dig that. 31 flavors of amazing.
9. Free newspapers

1. No vents or fans in the bathroom so the moist air just stagnates. Also, a problem if you're sharing the room and you need to take a deuce
2. My view was a brick wall. I felt like Simon from SNL

The huh?
1. They had a book on sleep, complete with CD in the room. I imagine this is to have something to help you sleep. However, the lowest volume on the tv/cd player was probably loud enough to keep both neighbors awake.
2. Bible in the room. Really? Hotels still do that?

Ideally, I would have a much enjoyable time here with a significant other.  The room is clean, green, and just classy as can be.  I love green!  So there was no way I wouldn't of liked this hotel.

We booked a junior suite for new year's eve but shared it with few friends.  $199 NYE special was given to us, which was nice! For future hotel finders for big groups, they only let 4 people in a suite.  After the 2nd person, there is an additional charge of $25 each person.  Beware of this for you money savers!  This hotel ideally is not good for big groups trying to jam pack as many people as possible in one room! Security/ Front door entrance is locked after 12pm. Only hotel guests with keys are able to access the hotel.  They do check in names.

King size bed was my favorite with plush pillows and great comforter.  We ordered more pillows which made it more heavenly.  I had no complaints about the bed.  The couch had a pull out bed also that was already made.  Things provided:
- Ipod/iphone charger/alarm clock is available.
- DVD rentals available
- DVD player available
- Organic toiletries
- Bath robes
- Free WIFI
- Flat Screen with speakers

The hotel is literally one hotel away from chinatown and a couple blocks down of Union Square. Service was very professional and friendly.  I would love to come back here for a weekend getaway!

If i haven't yelped this place, I don't think I would ever have noticed it!

I got the hotel deal through orbitz.com with a coupon code so it was a good price. They do not have a parking garage or area. Valet was $40. The employees were friendly. The room we stayed in was ok. The bed sheet on one of the bed was torn and just tucked in. the glass mugs for the coffee were a bit scratchy and foggy looking. The shower head wasn't twisted in all the way, which could've been extremely dangerous if it had came off while showering. I booked a room for 4 people and only received 2 bath towels in the room. The hotel should get a soda/water machine; what hotel doesn't have a soda/water machine? Overall, it was a good price & the staff was kind.

We stayed here for 6 nights.  Paid full rate and bought the breakfast option.  Overall a nice place, good service and nice rooms.  They were a little confused about breakfast and told us on the first morning that all we could have was toast or cereal.  I thought this was ridiculous and said so to the front desk.  I was told that we could have anything on the menu.  I then asked them to take the charge for the 1st morning breakfast off the bill.. They did not do this.  Annoying.  But, I would go back.....location is great.  BTW the windows do not open and the weather was beautiful. A bit of a disappointment. Finally, I asked for my bill to be emailed to me.  Never came.  Took 2 emails, then a phone call to get a copy of my bill.  However, all things considered a very nice place..

Good location; right next to the gates of Chinatown. Close to the trains, Union Square and Financial District. I definitely like the green concept of the hotel, they even provide a soothing CD to help you sleep! I went up to the rooftop terrace once, it's small, nothing going but a bunch of tables + chairs but a nice place to relax and chat amongst your friends. Also, we definitely felt safe that at night, they lock the front doors and only buzz in people that they knew were staying in the hotel.

The service was weird. On a couple of the days we got great service from the people at the front desk, very helpful. Then, I find out I was charged twice for the room when I specifically asked when I checked in that they were not going to charge my card because the room was prepaid. The guy at the front desk assured me that the card was just used for the security deposit. But now, I have to wait 10-15 days before my refund for the room being charged TWICE is back on my card. On top of it, they didn't even apologize and just said oh yes, we did charge you twice, we will get that refund processed back to your card. Again, when I went to the front desk to check out, I asked again to make sure they had started that process. She could not even look me in the eye. It was truly bizarre.

And the bellhop guy was even more shady. He was not nice at all. We gave him luggage to put away while we explore before our flight. He handed us some tags, didn't even tag the attaching tags to our bags and told us to put it aside in the lobby. HELLO? This is our personal belongings, please treat it with a little more care. The lobby was a bit crowded so anyone could have taken our luggage or mistaken it as theirs. When we got back to claim our luggage, we had told me the front desk that we were in a rush to get to our airport. The bellboy had gotten half of our bags, and then started talking on his cell phone. It was ridiculous...the woman at the front desk had to call out for him a few times because he had disappeared on the phone. We were going to tip him nonetheless but he got us our bags and stormed away, pissed.

I came to meet with a client who had flown in from Japan. I suggested the hotel due to the reputation for outstanding service. When I arrived at the hotel I went to valet my car, since parking in the area is such a bear. It was around lunch on a Weds afternoon. The valet attendant was so rude to me, I was stunned. I explained I wasn't a guest, but was meeting a guest for a meeting at the hotel and would be happy to pay any applicable charges for parking. He yelled at me to move my car and that valet service was for guests only. I parked in a near by garage and explained the reason for my tardiness to my business associate. Needless to say he will never be staying in the hotel and I will never recommend it to anyone again. Horrid treatment from a supposedly high class hotel.

The hotel is fairly close to major bus lines right outside the Gate to China Town and very close to downtown. The rooms are not to big but great use of space but if you get the right one with view, that is the best. Bathrooms are clean and accessorized, the beds are very comfortable and the staff is super friendly and helpful. I ate at the hotel restaurant and the food was great. My server was excellent, friendly and helpful.

Price is also a plus!

We had a great time at this Hotel.  Let me preface this by saying we had a rather inconvenient thing happen to us during this trip.  Someone in my party had to have an emergency surgery during our stay and this hotel was very understanding, helpful, and genuinely caring.  The manager in particular was very helpful with my mother who was already under a lot of stress dealing with this situation.  He helped her get to the hospital and worked with her with her and her reservation so she didn't have to pay for the nights she stayed over in the hospital.

I was having a less stressfull trip and enjoying this hotel a lot.  The bed and linens are VERY comfortable and these rooms are sparse and clean.  Just the way you like it on vacation.  Our view left something to be desired but what can you expect in the city.  On the other hand the Hotel's rooftop terrace is adorable and a nice way to spend an hour when the sun is shining.  Didn't get a chance to eat at the hotel but it didn't look like many others were either.  The Location of this hotel is fabulous. Close to all of the top attractions as far as tourism goes however it is in quite a business area so it was hard to find an open bar past 8pm on a sunday which I thought was odd but it is a lot like down on Wall St.  In the end I would suggest this hotel as far as location and safety and there was a lot of good food around everywhere I had a great stay in San Fransisco!

I had low expectations after receiving my confirmation email reminding me that my room was 200sq feet.

Once we arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to find a rather spacious - if a bit sterile - room (if you're on the 9th floor, the building view won't bother you as you will get to see some sky too!), and an even more spacious bathroom (please forgive the sliding bathroom door. It certainly leaves little to the imagination, especially since it doesn't slide all the way, leaving gaps for sounds to travel!).  The hotel also features a moderately friendly -- if not confused -- staff, and endless signs celebrating the hotel's green virtues.  How many times you will be reminded that sliding your key into the box next to the door will allow you to turn the lights on and off!

You can't beat the location, even if the sliding bathroom door cools your romantic weekend plans, the hotel's aesthetics are blah (this hotel really could be anywhere, there's nothing even remotely SF about it), and the hotel staff seem utterly confused.

Tip. Skip the $40/night valet. There's a garage around the corner on Kearney St.
Tip2. There are two Orchard Hotels on Bush St, so make sure you end up at the right one!

It was a clean, comfy hotel.  Staff was excellent, very quiet location considering it is just steps from Chinatown.  I got a AAA rate with the car allowance, and that was worth it.  The hotel is close to most sites.  I picked this hotel because we took a walking historical tour of San Francisco.  We learned a lot.  The receptionist recommended an Italian restaurant Cafe Tiramisu that was within walking distance, not stuffy, and served excellent food.  We would go back again.

The staff was excellent and the room was very comfortable. Stayed four nights. Convenient location for general SF sightseeing and also to the ballpark. Our room on the fifth floor was on an alley side of the building with some noisy dumpster collection in the night a couple times, so if that's going to be a major issue for you, be aware of that.

This hotel is Eco friendly and everyone here is very polite. My room is cozy, clean and has a great view of the street with all it's culture. I love that it's so conveniently located to everything! U can walk just about anywhere from here and I have:)

Booked this hotel for my first stay in SF (1 week in November 2013).
What I liked the most is the excellent location. You can visit almost anything from here, go shopping or use public transport (bus or BART) and all within a 5 minute walk.

The hotel itself was great. Nice beds, spacious and clean rooms.
There's free wifi which is a big plus and the staff is very friendly.

The only negative thing I could say is that the elevator broke down and it took a full 24 hours to get it fixed. I was only on the 2nd floor so I didn't mind but I can imagine it was a bigger problem for other people.

All in all, I had a great stay and I will book this hotel again in the future!

The staff are very friendly but also very helpful and effective without being overbearing. The room was beautiful and spotless. The wifi was free and not painfully slow like free wifi tends to be. The "green" practices are noticeable. The lights go off when you leave the room. They use large bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and soap so there aren't a million tiny bottles creating waste. They separate recycling, and they actually heed the "don't replace my once-used towel" signal unlike some other places where everything gets washed regardless. I considered giving four stars because the hotel restaurant seemed to be closed every time I walked by and other than breakfast they don't do room service, but it's in a really good location so there are plenty of dining options very close.

Angie at the front desk was an awful person she should be cleaning rooms not interacting with the guests. She had a bad attitude from the moment I walked through the doors. I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and thought she might just be having a bad day but she was just as unfriendly upon check out.  I asked how her day was and she gave short one word answers all I was looking for was a smile and I couldn't even get that.

I asked to speak with a manager and she said there was no one available,  what a joke.

When I checked out there was a charge on my card for $40 that I did not approve and when I asked her about it I was basically blackmailed into leaving without asking more questions. I had 2 more guests stay in my Jr sweet than I had booked so she told me "im not sure what the $40 is for but I should charge you $50 for the 2 extra people that stayed in your room"

I'll make it a point to never stay here again and ill spread the word about my awful experience.

4.5 stars

We really enjoyed our stay here. Perfect location, right outside of the entrance to Chinatown. Very comfortable bed, loved the pillows.  The free wifi, mini safe, and magnified mirror were big pluses for me. Nice and friendly staff. Had a little trouble connecting the wifi, they provide a c/s toll free #. After 15 min., no problems with connection with the IPAD. Our room was very quiet too. Nice to have a small sofa too for our guest to sit while visiting. No view but that's not so important. Valet parking only was $42 plus tax per day. I had no idea where they took our car, garage not attached to the hotel. You don't have a choice, just have to pay that nasty parking fee while in SFO. We were able to walk to all of our destinations. Highly recommend and would stay here again. AAA discount.

SOLID 4.5 Stars!!

This Eco-friendly hotel is smack dab in the heart of the Financial District and literally right next door to Chinatown's entryway...Dragon's Gate!  Perfect location, and location is everything! The closest Bart Station is about a 5 minute walk which is perfect when lugging suitcases! And there is a Cable Car stop 4 or 5 blocks away to take you to Fishermans Wharf!

I've deducted 1/2 star because the elevators are SLOW!!! Other than that, the staff are friendly, the rooms are clean and roomy,  and the outdoor patio on the roof was a great retreat to catch up after a day of sightseeing and enjoy a bottle of wine!

There are cool restaurants tucked into alleyways across the street as well as a Starbucks on each corner.  A Walgreens is a couple blocks away to stock up on waters and snacks as well!!

Another last touch...they have a water station in the lobby offering complimentary fruit infused water...very welcoming after walking those SF hills!!

Yes, this is the ONLY place I will stay on return visits!! Thanks Ruby at the front desk for all your help!!

The Orchard has a lot of pluses. good location for exploring Chinatown, the French areas on Claude and Belden right across from Cafe de la  Presse, easy to get to Union Square  even North Beach is not a far walk.
it's a LEED certified building- eco friendly laundry policies, wall mounted soap dispensers and one of those on wall key activated power systems for the room, you see often in europe. Also they separate the trash, this is becoming more standard these days, still nice to see. Free wi-fi  was working well.
It's clean, modern, light wood and  natural light leaf designs on the walls. Very comfy beds, and even they offer the the bed  toppers for sale. Nice LCD screen, desk , mini bar , good lighting options.  Bathrooms spacious enough, although there is no tight closing door, they use  sliding doors, not a problem for us but I could see this not being for everyone. The website does not give a very accurate picture of the actual spaces, that is pretty common though.
The hotel staff were rather cool, they did not explain any of the amenities such as  roof terrace, ice machine locations, flavored water  etc....  I saw all these only in the Yelp reviews ..AFTER our stay. So not real impressed with that. For an asian designed hotel ,the feng shui is all messed up in the lobby. It's split in two and the right half is some kind of dining area that was  always  dark, there is a little settee  that no one would sit in and just a place you want to flee as soon as possible. Terrible  first impression.
There is no meeting place at all and it feel like a business hotel for on or two night stays. The prices are reasonable, but I prefer a place that is more sociable, with a lobby space and even a bar. It's a fine home base, no real problems , just not a memorable experience or a place you want to be hanging out in.

Not impressed. Location is excellent but this was not a good experience. Too bad. I stayed at the other Orchard with a group and we enjoyed it. Service is less than expected. Two windows in the room at they look at bricks and gutters. Won't be back. Unfortunate.

Location location location...close to all the tourist areas, we walked almost everywhere!  The staff were very welcoming and always pleasant and smiling.  Luckily, we are not too picky about things, but upon check in, we were told that they were overbooked so the 2 bed room that I had booked has been changed to a large king size bed with a view.  We didn't mind sharing a bed, so we were fine with it.  The hotel is connected on both sides so the view is the street, so I was wondering how the other room would have been..no windows?  I guess.  So I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 because of this, even though it was an upgrade.  The ice machines are not on every floor, a little inconvenient but not a big deal.  The bed was very comfortable and very clean, room had a safe, and the fridge had enough room in it that you could put your own drink  inside.  I liked the fact that it was not one of those pressure sensitive fridges that automatically charge you once you lift the product.  The bathroom door was a slider instead of a real door so it was a little less private, but for us no big deal.  We were only in the hotel room to sleep and were walking around SF for most of the day, so overall, this is a great spot!

Very nice!  I was curious what this place would be like when I found out it was right around the corner from the Chinatown gate, but my qualms were eased once I set foot in a very plush, nice, and friendly hotel!  This is the sister to the Orchard Hotel, which is their flagship and I cannot comment on it, but if it's on par with this one I'd be down for staying.

Got two double beds, they were very comfortable and had nice linens, double nice.  There was a chair and side table for a guest to chill out on, an okay flat-screen TV, and a decent bathroom with soap shampoo and conditioner in dispensers, which is cool by me.

Let me get into this real quick:  this is a "green" hotel, which basically means that you don't get bath products to take home, and that's fine.  But it also means you get super low flow water from the shower and sink, which I'm not cool with.  I'm a fairly large dude, and at 6'2" it's already difficult for me to use hotel showers (I usually have to squat uncomfortably to get my head under the shower head), but that flow of water makes it even more difficult for me to bathe to the extent of cleanliness I would prefer.  I'm all about conservation, but they go too far with that.  I mean, I am still paying a fairly substantial rate for this room, and you can better believe that all the money they are saving with their "green" methods are NOT being passed on to you!

Okay, now that I've got that off my chest, let me summarize my main points:
-1  Nice and clean, and in the heart of San Fran (as opposed to leaving your heart there :D)
-2  Comfortable beds
-3  Friendly staff (I may have forgotten to mention that earlier, sorry)
-4  Somewhat annoying ecological practices

Having said all that, 4 stars.  You could stay at better, but it'll cost you more, and you could do MUCH worse in San Francisco, that's for sure.

Wonderful little hotel.  Love it that it is green.  Room attractive and clean.  Bathroom quite nice.  We were on the front but it was very quiet due to noise proof windows and very dark thanks to thick draperies.  The staff is excellent from the door man to the waitress Lilly who served us a good breakfast next morning.  Cute dining room and excellent coffee!  We would definitely go back.  Don't give 5 stars to hotels because there are usually problems with any hotel but this one is really quite nice.

The hotel captures all the great points of being at a mountain lake in a forest. The grounds are beautiful with many huge trees, with even a little creek running through it. Then with a dock, a deck alongside the lake and a beach, it provides a chance to relax by the water. On one visit, I was able to provide a birthday brunch for my mother on that lakeside deck and staff allowed us a late check out even though it was high season, August. Many of the most affordable rooms have great lake views. Add that dogs are welcome for a minimal fee, and that makes it a favorite for me and my family members. It's also fun to take the dogs for a walk and meet other dog lovers

Been here for a few days- got a good deal online or else it'd be too pricey to stay here.

Staff is friendly, hotel is clean and very nice.
I'm a HUGE stickler for places being clean and Im very comfortable with my stay here. Bathrooms are large and very well kept. Linens are very clean and nice. The only negative is the view which was a brick wall before we switched rooms on the first day, it's now a view of windows to the other rooms of the hotel (I'll attach a picture) it's pretty weird but the hotel is nice and Im not here for the view so that's not a problem.

There's the Sutter St parking garage about half a block away, it has multiple entrances and exits on the block. One of the entrances/exits is really close to the hotel. 6PM-Midnight & Midnight- 8 or 9AM is $1 an hr, since I've been out of the hotel most of the day using this garage is half the price of valet parking.

Stayed here for nearly three weeks. The location is great! The front desk service is pretty good and generally friendly and the price seems very reasonable for the immediate Union Square area.

I have found the internet to be frustratingly slow, which is problematic for work. I have also not been entirely satisfied with the cleanliness of my room. In terms of the latter, I recognize that I'm probably being overly picky, but I don't get the sense that the carpet in my room is being vacuumed and I have found that my bathroom has not been thoroughly cleaned each day.

I come to San Francisco frequently for work and this is probably the best moderately-priced hotel that I have stayed in here to-date, but there is room for improvement.

Great place to stay. The greenest hotel in SF - kudos!  Room was ready early, clean and quiet. We had a room on the street side and heard very little traffic. The hotel staff and maids were nice and friendly.

The location was ideal. Union Square shopping one block away. Chinatown one block away. Tons of bars from trendy to traditional Irish pubs within walking distance.

If you stay here make sure to walk downhill on Bush towards Pine about one block to try the restaurants in the alley. We enjoyed Taverna.
