I just stayed here for three nights when I was taking the bar exam at Fort Mason, and I am so glad that I stayed here!  The rooms are enormous, the pillows are squishy, and you are just blocks from all the great restaurants and shopping on Chestnut street!

I give the five stars because the price is fabulous, especially for San Francisco ($89 a night!), and for the price you pay you definitely get your moneys worth.  Oh yeah, and there is parking for each guest!

A terrific bargain. The room's spacious, clean and modern. The TV, Internet, hair blower, etc. all worked fine. The place is quiet and the staff helpful. At this location, with parking included, and at this price (with AAA rates to boot) it's impossible to beat.

Stayed here, sharing a room with 3 others, for a wedding we were in.  Soo spacious; they're pretty hard core on locked doors to gain entrance to your rooms, so that was pretty nice.  Not the most modern decor, and the carpet was a little shabby, but the bathroom was very clean, and the good deal had me loving the place.  Great location for walking to Union Street and Chestnut!

Returned here year after year because of the friendly welcome, the restful rooms, location and good price. The area has been creeping up in cost over recent years as people realise that it is a nice place to stay being close to the waterfront, public transport, restaurants and places often have free parking. This hotel has spacious rooms, indoor corridors, exemplary cleaning and a friendly attitude. All the staff treat their guests well. It has sister locations on the same street.

The crypt keeper at the front desk will keep an eagle eye on you. He is  okay though. The place has a tiny bit of a haunted feel to it. . It is only 89.00 dollars a night plus free parking. There is Internet access in the room. The rooms are real basic which I love.  The hotel is three floors. Parking is underneath the hotel or on the side in a separate area if that lot is all filled up.  It is pretty quiet and the rooms are fairly large with windows. What more could you ask for? ROOM SERVICE. Hell..walk a block for god's sake.

If you have a car and you are visiting San Francisco be prepared to get really, really screwed when it comes to hotel parking charges. There are some exceptions though and the Coventry Motor Inn is one of them. It has it's own secure FREE car park with spaces big enough to park a large suv. The rooms are a good size, clean and comfortable with tv, and wi-fi.  Plenty of good places for eating and drinking withing walking distance and a short cab's ride will take you to some of the tourist areas (seriously, I'd leave you car in the hotel car park and either use public transport or cabs). Friends recommended this hotel and I give it the thumbs-up also. Will stay there again on my next visit

Come play with us, Danny...

Seriously, the hallways of this hotel give me the heebie jeebies. It's straight out of The Shining and I wouldn't be all that surprised if good 'ol Jack comes smashing through the front door of the hotel room.

But it still gets four stars for being down the street from the Union Street bars...which is AWESOME. Stumbling distance instead of drunk driving is always a plus. All out of town guests that don't give a shit if they're drinking with the Barbies and Kens should drink here.

And those creepy twins might just appear at the end of the Coventry's hallways, in which case my drunk homeboys would be VERY happy.

Touche, Coventry Motor Inn, touche.

Yes, full stars! the location is very good! Staff members are so polite, and professional. Clean, neat, free parking, just amazing. I spent three night there and it was perfect! I would for sure rent again when I am in SF!

What sold me about this place was the free parking. FREE PARKING IN SF? I didn't even think that was possible! It is also a block away from the bus stop. We left our car parked in the lot most of the time and took the bus around the city.

Now, this place is not a 5 star establishment nor do they advertise themselves as such so basically, you get what you pay for. I felt very comfortable here and everything was clean, which is all I really care about anyway.

Stayed here for a girls weekend.  Was reluctant at first cause I'm used to staying in higher end hotels closer to union square,  WOW!!was I surprised.  First off the convenience is worth it. Walking distance to marina district, cow hollow and pacific heights.  We literally parked the car (no extra charge btw) and walked everywhere, Did shopping on union street. Lunch on chestnut and an amazing dinner over on Fillmore.  Staff is super friendly, especially Tony - super sweet guy who will go the extra mile for any requests you might have.  A wonderful experience at a fraction of the cost.  save your money and stay here then have extra $ for all the fun shops on union st.

Live in St. Helena CA~needed to be in SF for a workshop early on Monday 03-19-2012- at Fort Mason and didn't want to drive into the city in the AM traffic.  Searched for hotels with good pricing for just an overnite stay.  All I found had expensive overnite parking for reasonable hotel rates.  Asked a friend here in St Helena and she gave me a heads up on The Coventry Motor Inn.  I liked the price and registered online.  I saw a comment on Yelp about a great employee "Tony" whom works there and decided to call to make a personnal resv.  He answered the Ph.  I booked the room and shortly thereafter he called me back with an additional discount~WHOA what  Great service already!  Drove down and realized I'd driven by the place countless times going to the "city".  Pulled into a safe CLEAN pking garage and went into reg. - Vince, a really nice man-well dressed and very helpful checked me in.  Up the lift I went to a chosen "quiet" room by Tony and was surprised to see an updated  attractive room with very nice accomadations.  Yes, tempurpedic bed and great pillows--I had asked for extra pillows online--there they were!!  This was just perfect for me and my overnite needs. Checked out in AM and there was "Tony" to help me.  I have told many friends about this great deal and will definately stay in future when we need a place to hang our heads after playing /dining in the city and having a bit much to drink-or any other jaunt to the city where a short stop is required.   Found out the owners also have a lovely B&B in St Helena where I have attended chamber mixers and other occasional meetings--had no idea they were affiliated it's called The Vineyard Country Inn.  Check it out if ur up here.

My boyfriend and I just got back from staying at the Coventry Motor Inn this weekend and it was such a great experience that I needed to take the time to share it. We went to San Fran to do an event called Unique SF and we were referred by a friend to stay at the Coventry.I did my Yelp research and was impressed with all the good reviews that it got yet I was a little weary of what it was going to be like.First off the parking is FREE which is amazing when you are in SF because they charge like crazy for parking. The guy at the front desk was very welcoming and accommodating, they also allow you to give requests when you make the reservation online. We requested to be on the top floor,a fridge ( 10 bucks a night but totally worth it),and that we have a room on the  Buchanan Dr. side because it is less quiet according to Yelp(def true). All of these requests were meant:) The only thing you can say bad about the room is that it is dated.Other than that everything was great;there was a huge big screen,a good size bathroom and the bed was super comfy. They also offer FREE WIFI which was awesome! The thing we loved was that we were able to easily walk to all the places I wanted to go:Fisherman Wharf ( a mile away),Ghirardelli Square(less than a mile away) and we discovered Union St (which is 3 blocks up) had a bunch of cute stores and restaurants to eat at.The Coventry is perfect if you want to go to SF but don't have to money to spend on a super expensive hotel! I loved it and would definitely would stay there again!

Best budget hotel we have ever been in! We stayed over memorial weekend. Based on extensive research and reviews found here and tripadvisor we chose Coventry. The Marina district is where you want to be if its your first time in San Francisco because it is walking distance to the Warf which from here you can pretty much go anywhere because of the different tours you can purchase.

We booked directly from their website and all of the requests were met. We arrived earlier than expected so we requested an early check in - done. We requested the 3rd floor because of other reviewers about the loudness due to it being on Lombardi - Done. We requested a king size temperpedic bed which I think they all have these - Done. When we got there we were greeted with a warm smile and quickly got us our key. We entered our room and were pleasantly surprized by how large and updated it was. Our room (317) was impecably clean. As I approached the bay window I was greeted by a view of the Golden Gate Bridge which we would later find out that because it was the 75th Anniversary of the bridge we would have the perfect view from our own room of the fireworks the next night which were spectacular. The free wifi and parking was perfect, we did have trouble finding spots but no issues because we were able to double park and leave them the key. Do take your own cooler because they charge for their mini fridge per day, you can fill it up with their ice machines that they have in the halls, get yourselves water and beverages and you will be set. It is a very safe neighborhood because we were not too far from the ritzy areas of pacific heights.

We walked to breakfast about 3 blocks to Homeplate (simply awesome, fresh food, friendly staff, fair prices) and accross the street you will find IHOP if you don't care to try something unfamiliar. There are several eateries all over the place but thanks to yelp we were able to find some of the best in the Mission District, China town, Warf areas.

If you drive down Lombard towards the warf you will be driving down the Crookedest Street in the world, which was pretty cool and unexpected. I would stay here over and over again or maybe try some of their sister hotels in the area. Oh one more thing DO try the little boat rides offered at the Wharf that are $15 pp that was the best thing we did when we were there (Wacky Jacky is the name of the boat we rhode on they were amazing). They give you a talking tour and stop for some of the most amazing picture taking. Other boat rides are definatley a rip off and so much less intimate. Don't forget scarves and jackets! It gets super cold!

There are a million other hotels to stay in SF with great locations and amenities..so why stay here? FREE PARKING and a GREAT STAFF. If you visit SF and bring your car, be prepared because parking is an expensive bitch and most hotels don't include parking. But at the Conventry Motor Inn, the parking is free, in a covered garage and always being watched by the staff. The staff is so friendly and very accommodating. Generally, you get one parking space per room...but if you ask REALLY nicely they'll let you park two. They're very accommodating and take care of your needs as best they can. The Filipino lady at the front desk and Sherman were really sweet. But be prepared, Sherman likes to tease guests from Southern California. (actually all the locals make fun of the "uptight", "pretencious" LA people).

The room is pretty standard, clean and free wifi. The bathrooms are surprisingly nice. I think they recently remodeled. If your room in along Lombard, be prepared because it gets pretty noisy due to the traffic and drunks. My mom made us switch rooms to one along Buchanan and it was waay more quiet.

The inn is located on Lombard St. and Buchanan. There are a number of various eateries of all types of food, so you'll never go hungry. There are some good stores and a Walgreens located on Chestnut and more good things on union.  Now that I think about it, this hotel was in a really great central location. It was walking distance from Ghiradelli Sq, and driving wise, equal distance to Union Sq for shopping, Haight for more shopping and the embarcadero for eateries. Best of all it was away from the tourists. I've stayed in the Union Sq and SOMA districts before, and its nice to be close to the MUNI, BART, but battling the crowds is a bitch. Here, you were mingling with an equal number of tourists and locals. The nightlife is pretty good too. There are a number of lounges and bars. The crowd is more in their late 20s, early 30s... haha.

The conventry Motor inn has four or five other sister hotels along Lombard who all have free parking, so check them out too!

A very quiet and safe hotel within walking distance to Wharf and other places. Bus for seniors 75 cents takes you anywhere.

Room was clean, good bed and bedding, warm water. Large slim line TV. Safe for valuables. No frig and no view.

We were out and about each day so view was not an issue. Would definitely return as the price was reasonable compared to most S.F. Hotel. Good parking if you have a car. We were on foot.

Having stayed at one of the sister properties, we decided to give Coventry Inn a try.  So glad we did!  Rooms have been updated, nice and clean.  Good size rms and they have those nice tempurpedic foamstyle mattresses that conform to your body.  Such a great nights sleep!  Staff were very accommodating and helpful.  Best of all, free safe parking in a good neighborhood. Good location right on Lombard makes it easy to grab cabs to take you around the City.  Would have given 5 stars except we woke up in the mornng to see ants trying to invade the mini fridge.   Still we would definitely stay here again~

Hotel was nice but a little dingy and out-dated, the most modern furnishing in the room would be the flat screen TV.  There is only 1 elevator to share between 3 floors, but wasn't a problem during my stay. Walls are thin, but not noisy. It was clean but not spotless.  Bathroom was spacious but I could've used more counter space.  Parking is free, and when spaces are filled the hotel double parks and moves your car for you when a space frees up. It's walking distance to the Wharf and the Marina district.

Stayed here because of it's location, near to Fort Mason, and other positive Yelp reviews.  What a great choice!  The hotel was clean, the staff awesome, the price amazing, and free parking.  FREE parking!  In San Francisco!!  The only negative, and it has nothing to do with the hotel, was noisy neighbors who came in at three a.m. and continued their evening's festivities until six a.m.  Not overly loud, just enough to be annoying.  Thank goodness for earplugs!   Would definitely stay here again!!

I booked this hotel solely based on online reviews and I'm GLAD I did! It is a diamond in the rough that's very reasonably priced, has free parking, and is in a convenient and safe location. It's also a diamond in the rough because the 'motor inn' name and look from the outside doesn't do it justice! When we fist pulled I thought I made a huge mistake but the rooms are totally renovated and very clean. It's 2 blocks from Union St where there are a lot of great shops, restaurants and bars that locals frequent, not tourist traps! The only bad things I can say was that there wasn't much customer service past the check in process and it's not a typical hotel set up. There is an office on the parking garage level but no lobby or other amenities (like office area, lounge, room service, etc). I called the front desk at 9pm and the phone just kept ringing with no answer. I called a few times and no one picked up. There weren't a lot of taxis in the area either. We called a company and they were there in a few minutes so it wasn't a huge deal but something to be aware of. Lastly, if you plan to take a double decker bus tour there is a stop literally 2 blocks away from the hotel which was perfect for us!

I did a lot of research on the best hotels for the price to stay in San Francisco on a recent vacation with my boyfriend for a long weekend. I saw so many great reviews for The Coventry Motor Inn and the price was right so I booked it. I was a bit nervous when we drove up as I was not sure what to expect. We were greeted by very kind and helpful staff at checking in. It is small and not too fancy looking on the outside but inside it is GREAT! We got in our room and it was spacious and clean and wonderful. Bathroom was GREAT also! The bed was extremely comfortable with memory foam mattress top. The parking is free and there was always plenty of places to park. Also it is a short and flat 1 mile walk to fisherman's wharf. That was my favorite part. It is also 1 block from a bus line that, for $2 each way, will take you to the wharf and all along the water. I will definitely stay here again.

Stayed on a Friday for $120 (AAA discount vs. $140) which is a good deal in the city. Great experience at the front desk (quick checkin/out), free parking, and the rooms were impressive. Single bed: king (tempurpedic was AMAZING)  was a large room with a huge flat screen, table, two chairs, closet, and large bathroom. Everything was spot clean.

Granted, all we were looking for was a clean, nice place to sleep (no need for extras like a pool or whatnot) this was a great choice, especially for the price and availability.

+ a 5 minute, short walk to Fort Mason!

BED BUGS!!!!!   They moved us to another room and sure enough there were more in that room.  We left and stayed at the Comfort Inn just up the street.

When we complained at around 8 pm the guy at the FD called the manager who came out in a bathrobe and was wasted, she was slurring her words, stumbling, laughing at a very serious situation, strong odor of of alcohol on her.

We just got back today from our trip to San Francisco.  We stayed 5 nights at the Coventry Motor Inn.  They were great.  We were barely in the room so we did not interact with the staff a lot.  However, when we checked in the gentleman at the front was very nice.  We were able to check in early which was GREAT since our flight had landed early.  The location was good.  We walked to the wharf most days since our tours left from there.  The walk from the hotel to Union Square was LONG though.  I def. would give this place a thumbs up and tell my friends and family to stay here.  Great price too!

Prompt and courteous check-in, very helpful when we made a last minute revision to our room reservations. Very large rooms, very clean and get this, FREE Parking!  They have memory foam mattresses, which are ok but we found them to be a little too firm. Also, larger pillows or more pillows on the bed would be nice too.

Location, price, cleanliness and friendliness of staff is fantastic! Tony and Cynthia deserve an extra special thank you for allowing us to check in early( I know most large chain hotels would never allow that early of a check in) the room was clean so you allowed us to check in and all we thought was that we store our luggage there for 4 more hours! Very pleasant surprise. The location is great;( we felt very safe, even going out at night around 9pm....  we walked to mostly everything and I mean everything(If you are walking to the Soma district, try to avoid the Tenderloin district...very sad and unsettling seeing all of the homeless people lined up on the sidewalk sleeping and some even partially naked and drunk.)
The price very reasonable and parking is free(although we did not rent a car, it is nice if we had) the staff so friendly and the motel's cleaning staff did a wonderful job. Since my daughter lives here now in SF, we will definitely be coming here at least once a year and we will be staying at the Coventry. Also, we had a room in the back and it was pretty quiet. I heard some muffled tv sounds from the next room but nothing annoying in any way. If you value service. cleanliness and great staff over a big fancy hotel then this is the place for you! And the Tempurpedic bed was so comfortable!!!

My boyfriend and I booked Coventry Motor Inn for our trip in San Francisco during January, and it is definitely a place where you would want to stay! We stayed here for 7 nights, and we enjoyed our stay =]

There is free parking & free internet!! The king size bed was really comfortable (I believe it is memory foam)..the bathroom was clean, the room overall is very spacious! It is like seen in the pictures.

I read from many reviews to ask for a room in the back to avoid noise, which I did and it was really quiet in my room. We were about 10-15 minute drive away from many tourist spots.

Definitely recommend if you don't want your wallet to be emptied out!

Not the fanciest of places but it sure does the job.

What's great about this place?  The location, price, free parking, clean,  nice staff, fee wifi, flat screen tv, and new Tempurpedic beds.

What's not so great?  Outdated look inside and out.  You can hear a lot of the hallway noise.

For a 1 night stay, it was a great choice in my book.

Great value and very nice hotel!  We needed to stay at a hotel in the Marina area so instead of finding a Marriott or Hilton brand we decided to take the recommendation of a friend who found a place in the neighborhood.  The Coventry is a find and we will certainly return.  It is very clean and the rooms are large.  The hotel staff is very friendly and the parking is free compared to the large chains which charge $50 or more for overnight parking.  The location is in the midst of a shopping district with lots of restaurants and bars and shops and it is very safe place to walk late into the evening.  Coming back!

I am a frequent visitor to San Francisco. I usually stay in Union Square, and one of my girlfriends who lives in San Jose drives down to meet me. I love the Union Square area but the parking is SO dang expensive. 60 bucks a night just to park is outrageous. I stumbled upon this gem on yelp and gave it a try. Not only was the price of the room half of what we would pay in Union Square, but the parking is FREE, practically unheard of in SF. The room was clean and the staff was awesome and very helpful. The only downfall was that it was very difficult to get a taxi in this area, which of course is not the hotels fault, but the front desk man did the best he could to get me a taxi to take to the airport. Would definitely stay here again.

We just finished 5 night at this hotel and it could not have been better. It was cheap, close to transportation, close to the embarcadero, and very clean.  We chose to spend $5 extra a day for a fridge and it was cold and well worth it. We also appreciated the king bed, which is becoming rare at hotels.  They even printed our boarding passes for us.  We will most definitely stay here on our next trip to SF. Only thing I kinda wished for was the ability to add a microwave.  Overall excellent experience.

Free covered parking! Free Wi-Fi! Super clean room, bathroom, towels, and super courteous staff. There aren't a lot of bells and whistles to this place, but the free parking is possibly better than any other amenity I could think of. Plus, the prices are quite reasonable. Super reasonable, actually. We have a AAA membership, which is how we came across this place because they are part of the AAA network. We didn't use our AAA discount because the web prices were the same as our discount, so for three nights we paid around $340. Our room didn't have any view, except for a wall about three feet from the window and we were next to the elevators and ice machine, but even that didn't make for too much noise. The bed was comfy. Plus, all three bus lines that we wanted to take to get anywhere we needed to go were all between 2 to 3 blocks. When we come back to SF, and we will, we are definitely staying here again. Oh, and Union Street is only three blocks south of this place and the whole street is lined with restaurants, shops, bars and coffee places.

We had to be at Fort Mason at 9 AM on a Saturday, and it is totally worth $100 to me to not have to get up at 7 to drive up to SF from San Jose.  This one had favorable yelpage so we were happy to book a night here.

Agreed, it's a bit old (the near-antique soda machine on the first floor was amusing) but they are currently upgrading to flatscreens and Tempurpedic beds (not our room just yet, but hey, we were only there the one night).  The room and bathroom were comfortably large.

The entire second floor was being worked on, so fewer cars meant they were very generous with their already-free parking -- they let us stash our car there past 6 even though we had checked out at 8 AM.

Walking distance to Fort Mason and plenty of Marina restaurants = works for us.

I was in town for a few nights and needed a place to crash that would be economical, clean and close to the marina district. Coventry Motor Inn met all of my needs, and surprised me to say the least. Pietro Properties owns the Inn, along with 4 other similar style/named places in the Cow Hollow area (as seen on the room key). Coventry and Cow Hollow Motor Inn are literally a block away and the resemblance in uncanny.

For a single room with a King bed, I paid about $115/night -- not too shabby.

Parking (a premium for any non-SF natives) was free, and they had ample spaces on the Lobby floor, as well as around the back and in the below ground garage. Like the rest of the city, spaces are tight, so rent a compact if a car is necessary. You'll notice mini coopers are the car of choice for any local -- and rightfully so. I recommend leaving your car at the hotel and using the Muni, BART or trolleys to get around unless you need to leave the bay area. $15 shuttle to SFO if you ask the front desk, who are extremely friendly and knowledgeable.

Room was incredibly clean, and the bed was a pretty comfortable memory foam King. TV was nice and big, and mounted on the wall. Good selection of channels, but me being me, ESPN was on the entire time. Bathroom was surprisingly spacious with a great size counter and bath.

Location, location, location. This is what makes any Pietro property worth the stay. Located on Lombard street, CMI is smack dab in the middle of Cow Hollow, a neighborhood just south of the marina district, lined with excellent restaurants and bars. Just two blocks south is Union Street, which seems to be the street to go to for a nice meal and a drink (or four). Just a block north is Chestnut, which is more of the same. Very safe neighborhood, interspersed with hotels/motels, restaurants and some local residences. There's like 3 sushi places literally across the street if you're into that. Also, a few good breakfast places within a 2-3 block walk as well.

Within a block radius must be 3 or 4 Muni (public bus system -- which is AWESOME, trust me I'm a NYer) stations. Muni costs $2 for a ride anywhere, and you get a transfer receipt which allows you to hop on and off any bus within a 2 hour time period. This may not seem all that great, but trust me, $4 can get you around the city for an entire day! I went from the Inn, to Haight-Ashbury, to Fisherman's Wharf, Embarcadero and a few places in between all in a day for less than a $5 spot. Can't beat that math. 43 and 30 were the lines I took for reference.

Only downside is that the cheap price attracts young/loud people, and my hallway frequently smelled like pot (not too bothersome, as my room was herb-smell free). The noise, however, was a little bit of an issue, but nothing I wasn't used to.

Long story short -- if you're coming to SF and need a cheap, clean place near the worthwhile places to eat/drink/shop/explore, I'd highly recommend the Coventry Motor Inn.

-Memory Foam Mattresses
-Generously sized bathrooms
-Free parking and WiFi/ethernet
-Great location
-Friendly staff
-Good AC/heat

-Rooms could've been a little more updated
-Bedding was subpar (I guess I like my Egyptian 2000ct, sorry for being a snob)
-Decor/ambiance lacking compared to the overall quality of the place
-Not much else.

It is clean. It is relatively cheap compared to the other well-rated hotels you come across in your online searches. In my escapades around town I came across many of the other hotels in this price range that I was considering from my online searches and I kept thinking how this hotel was definitely the right choice.

It is in a good area. You can walk to the Marina and then west to the GGB and Presidio or east if you want to do the Wharf. There are plenty of serviceable places nearby for coffee, snacks, lunch, dinner, and nightcaps. There are plenty of buses that run through the area that can get you to the other spots in town for $2. If you don't want to do a higher price range, this is a very good hotel in its price range.

Loved this place!  My girlfriend just got back from a vacation to San Francisco, and this place definitely hit the right spot for us.  It was cheaper than most places, especially when you count the free parking, clean and the bed was super comfy.
I also dig the location on Lombard Street, it's close enough to everything, but far enough away from the tourist centers that you get a real feel for the city.
We were over the GGB in a few minutes, we walked to Fisherman's Wharf easily and the crooked part of Lombard is only a few blocks away too.
The only downside were the pillows, they were a little small for a king bed.  Small complaint though, since my girlfriend and I were so tired every night from running around SF that it didn't really matter.

It's not ritzy, but it's functional and cheap for SF, FREE PARKING and it's clean.  Will stay here again!

Stayed here again for 4 days over NYE. Really great location next to the Marina district and Union street. Can walk lots of places for drinks/food or catch the 30 bus a block away on Chestnut.

Asked for and received a room on the 3rd floor in the back of the motel which was VERY quiet. Same room we had as last time. Has free WiFi and parking. Staff very nice and price was right considering it was a holiday weekend. Room was clean and has a nice AC/heating unit with a fan that you can use for "white" noise to sleep. Very comfortable beds and newer TV.

Only reason doesn't get 5 stars is because no fridge or microwave which comes in handy when staying for more than a few days or bringing leftovers from the restaurants.

Confronted with hotel prices of 150, 200, 250 not including a parking hassle and gouge, I decided to forego the usual SF experience and gamble on the Coventry.  The exterior, office and parking lot looks a little faded but the daytime help at the desk was helpful, gave me a quieter Buchanan Street room and off we went.  The hotel has obviously been renovated in the last few years with wood paneling in the elevator and bathrooms that are modern. Small Fridge worked, too.
Parking is FREE!!!!. I wasn't sure what to expect but will no longer endure the usual hotel chaos in SF and just stay here.  Unless you are on your honeymoon this will be the perfect place to crash after a full day in SF.  Lotsa stuff right up the street on Polk, etc. Don't expect the Fairmont just a clean, reasonable hotel that is totally reasonable.  DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PARK IN THE SMALL SPACES NEAR THE POSTS, VERY HARD.

This was recommended to us by a very nice lady at the California welcome centre as we crossed from Nevada. What a super find.  We have had 2 wonderful nights, the beds were comfortable, very clean rooms with all the required facilities. A couple more pillows would have been good, I probably could have asked for more if it had really mattered. Fishermans wharf was a 20 minute walk with two children. We walked all over SF very easily.  The inclusive parking meant that we could forget about the car for a few days. We couldn't originally get two nights booked so booked at their sister property Lombard inn. Luckily for us we were able to get this changed so we didn't need to change. Great, helpful staff. All for a sensible price. I hope you get Tony he is fantastic and full of great knowledge.

Vince was the person at the front desk throughout our stay he saved me time by printing out my baseball tickets (last minute buy) from their computer...he also wasn't shy or bothered to give us his recommendations for eats and directions. The rooms are clean and spacious enough to enjoy, a well kept hotel. we will be back.!

I must say, Yelp steered me to a gem with this pick!

Wife and I were paying SF a quick two-night visit before driving south so we had a bit of a conundrum. Quality digs at a fair price in a good location that wouldn't charge an arm and a leg to park our rental. Truly a tall order in this fair city, I found. Most hotels charge $25 or more a night for on-site or valet parking which I simply could not justify for our 36-hour stay.

The Coventry delivered on all counts! Parking was covered and plentiful (but fills up by evening), rooms were perhaps just the teeniest bit dated, but absolutely clean and well-appointed. By far the most comfortable bed of our stay even though it was the cheapest of all three places we stayed in CA. We requested a 'quiet room' off Buchanan instead of one off Lombard which I had learned through reviews can be somewhat loud for light sleepers or weekend visitors. The location was nearly prime...close to everything, but far enough to be out of the hustle. Just a short block from a major Muni bus line and reasonably walkable to Fisherman's Wharf, the famous 'crooked' part of Lombard, the cable cars, etc. While this stretch of Lombard seems somewhat quiet, check Yelp and you'll see that there are some top-notch restaurants, bars and cafes within very easy walking distance.

Staff were very friendly, offering change for the Muni, tips on public transit, etc.

Perhaps the best value in SF and we would not hesitate for a moment to return!

This place is on Lombard within walking distance of all the great places to shop on Union Street. There are also many casual eateries nearby. If you want to get away from the hustle & bustle of downtown SF, then stay here. I was right on Lombard and it was not loud. The room was nicely furnished, clean, flat screen TV, WI fi accessible (call front desk for password/username). The bed was pretty comfortable, the bathroom was clean and spacious with good shower pressure. I checked in around 10:45pm and the guy at the front desk was very nice. There is a parking garage so after you check in, he takes your key and parks it in their private garage near the office. Like valet! No continental breakfast but that's OK, worth the fair price! I'll be back to do some shopping and walk along the Marina (nearby)! Cynthia (Mgr.), you run a great place!!

It is tough finding a place to stay in the city that offers free parking, and parking here is available AND free.   (We got really lucky and had a spot by the office!)   The office staff was friendly and helpful.   Our room was clean and there wasn't any hallway noise.   I will stay here again on my next visit.

After much searching online, we stayed at this great place on the recommendation of a friend--and we are so glad we did! We arrived with our four teenage girls, my husband and I for an overnight stay to see a concert in December 2013.  I was a bit worried about the girls being too far from us--but they came through and gave us a wonderful set of rooms with a connecting door!  WAH-HOO!!
My husband & I had the King Tempur-pedic, the girls had two Queens, and they were so comfortable!!  Best night's sleep I've ever had in a hotel room--EVER.
The rooms were clean, very very nice, roomy and  quiet!  For being on a busy street that was amazing.  :)
We loved the free parking, and the girls and my husband loved the free Wifi, so everyone was happy.  I also loved the security--you have to use your room key (card) to get into the the outside door of the hotel, that made me feel very safe.  The price was awesome, and we had a very enjoyable stay.
There is a small store across the street with drinks and snacks, and restaurants nearby on foot.  I took the four teens out to eat after the concert at 1 a.m. about four blocks away at Mel's Diner (DO NOT go there, the food was terrible for the high price I paid).  There were a lot of people still walking around and it was a lot of fun.  I would definitely recommend this hotel, the staff was friendly and there was always someone right there in the office if we had a question.  Would stay there again if we ever go to San Francisco!

I'm out of work.  I'm also a hotel snob.  I used to stay at motor inns and motels all through college and my 20s.  Then somewhere in my 30s I admit I turned into a hotel snob.   Now that I was laid off I seem to have gone backwards in life.  I'm now back to booking motels and motor inns.

But let me tell you. Reviews on TA led to me a great one night place to stay here.
Loved the location.  Walk up the street and you're in Cow Hollow and Union Street shopping.  Cross Lombard and you are at the Marina District shops/restaurants.
Ask for a room in the back and you will hear zero street noise.

The carpeting is 70s brown as is some of the furniture.  It is not all all appealing.  Try to ignore this if you are a hotel snob too.  The brand new huge LG flat screens are awesome.  The tempurpedic bed was very comfie.  The airport shuttle for only $15 worked perfectly.  And the nice desk guy working who had all my luggage waiting for me as he thought I would be late for my shuttle/flight was the nicest hotel worker (in fact all of them at check-in and check-out were) that I have ever met.
Seriously excellent customer service goes a long way.
They also offer free parking which is almost unheard of in cities.

Restaurant tip: Zushi Puzzle- is directly across the street on Lombard and their rolls are excellent.

Thanks Coventry staff.  For only 85 bucks a night this hotel is SO worth it.

Decided to book a last minute trip to San Francisco for my birthday/new years. We booked this trip on a budget so we had to find a place to stay (out of what was leftover) that was cheap yet clean and comfortable for several days. Location was also a big factor, even though we had a car, parking is an adventure by itself in SF, so we wanted somewhere within walking distance to all the hot spots AND more importantly a place that had parking for guests. During our hotel search, this place kept popping up with a good price and excellent location. So we went for it and we were happy we did.

We got there after an long day of driving and our room was ready early which was nice. The room was warm and open. I appreciated that the room was facing Buchanan, so it was a bit quieter, but the overall noise level of the hotel was decent given it's on Lombard. The memory foam mattress was a giant plus, however the pillows were pretty flat (for me at least, my bf was fine with them). Free wifi and the flat screen TV also a bonus. My only other complaint besides the flat pillows were not enough blankets. When we called down to ask for more, we were told we had to come down to get them, which was a little odd. Not sure what that was about be we got the blankets and moved on.

There is plenty of stuff to do right around the corner of the hotel, if you don't feel like venturing out for the day. And if you do, walking and public transport is pretty convenient, you won't really need a car unless you go on a trip outside the city.

All in all the location is excellent (Fisherman's wharf, views of GGB and Alcatraz all within 1- 1 1/2 miles walking distance), the staff is friendly, rooms are cozy, and you can't beat the free parking. They just need some better pillows and more blankets already in the room.

Will definitely stay here on my next trip to SF.

My husband and I were looking for an affordable hotel we could use to basically shower and sleep in, we aren't the type to hang in the hotel when on vacation. The Coventry Motor Inn fit the bill for sure. Tony is awesome and incredibly helpful down in the office. We arrived at 11 am (4 hours prior to check in) and were able to get into our room, which was great. This was after we found out the system did not have our reservation, even though we had a confirmation email. Tony let us know that the day we booked was a day they had a huge storm and the power was knocked out. We had booked the room at a rate of $88 per night. When we arrived, the current rate was $128 per night. Tony apologized for not having our reservation (even though it wasn't his fault whatsoever) and booked us a new room at the original rate. Overall a great experience! Close walking distance to Chestnut St. with tons of great bars and restaurants (The Tipsy Pig, Delarosa, Tacolicious, Blackwood, etc) as well as being about 15 mins from the wharf.

Fantastic hotel for the money.   We stayed 2 nights and were very pleased with the quality of the room as well as the service.  The location was great and free parking in this area of town is a huge bonus.  Tony,  who was our host was very attentive and always had a smile and a good recommendation.  It was like staying at a friends house and always feeling welcome as well as knowing that the recommendations were not driven by kickbacks (as happens at some establishments), but were guided by making sure our family enjoyed our stay.

Highly recommended.

Oh yeah...Jake's steaks around the corner for a great Philly sandwich and a nice cold beer really helps get the road dust knocked off.

I did a lot of research on hotels for our recent trip to San Francisco, and this one kept coming up with great prices and great reviews.  We were renting a car, so I wanted to find a place that had reasonable or free parking, which, as I quickly learned, is almost impossible to find.  I was a little nervous, as this hotel was right on Lombard St and I didn't know how busy/noisy the area would be, but everything turned out just fine.

It's definitely an older building, with an older elevator, but it is very well kept up and adds to the character of the hotel.  The rooms are very warmly decorated and inviting (and roomy!), and... they have memory foam mattresses.  Amazing.  I haven't slept that well in a hotel room in years.  No joke, I didn't have any sort of cramping or awkward back pains like I usually get from sleeping on a hotel bed.

Free wi-fi, free parking, great location (walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf), great service (allowed us to have a later check-out time).  I will definitely stay here again if and when we come back to San Francisco.  This place is great!

Hate to spend a pile of bux on hotel rooms that you'll be spending very little time in? What a coincidence. Me too!

Another place in this wonderful city that I have been patronizing for over 30 years. I tend to be a very loyal customer, especially when I am well taken care of at a more than fair price. How fair? Unbelievably for this city the off season (November - March I believe) rates are around $90, but recently they have started to charge $150 for the peak months. Guess the cat is out of the bag, and the ol' laws of supply and demand are now in place. Still an awesome rate for this area, especially when covered on-site parking is FREE. Very unusual, as I have paid up to $50 per night at some of the higher end hotels not far from here.

Yes, Lombard is a very busy street, but the thick windows block most of the traffic noise, and you can request a quieter room facing Buchannan. Be cautious of requesting one off of the back alley, as the trash trucks show up around 7:00 AM most every morning. This is an older hotel now, so a bit dated, but very clean and well kempt.

I still miss Gil the old front desk gent that worked here for many years, but on our recent stay Tony and the lady manager were terrific. So friendly and accommodating, Gil would have been very proud.

There are some decent restos and bars right on Lombard, but I strongly urge all to either stroll Chestnut, where there are dozens of bars and restos filled with mostly locals, or Union which is more upscale. Both are just a couple of blocks away.

I very seldom move my car until time to leave the city, and just cab it everywhere. It is only around $7 to the Buena Vista near Fisherman's Wharf, and around $10 to North Beach and China Town. Buses run every few minutes on Lombard if you have the patience for that mode of transpo.

I have hesitated until now to Yelp this place, but since that cat is already out of the bag, I won't blame myself for the rates going up. And make sure you book early, as it is common for them to sell out.

This hotel had a clean, spacious room, and was located conveniently close to Giardelli Square and the Cable Car. It was great to check in, leave my car parked there, and take a quick bus ride to see the sites. However, this hotel is literally located right on Lombard Street, so the traffic noise was LOUD and constant all night. Made sleeping difficult.

This is definitely the best value hotel in the area. *FREE PARKING* was a huge plus, as most other places charged the same rate plus $35-40 for parking. No thanks!

There was only a double queen when I booked over the phone, but I asked to be downsized to a single king when available, and they made it happen. Check-in was painless and the staff was very welcoming. Our room was clean, nicely furnished, and had the window cracked for some fresh air--though we were weirded out by what seemed to be a camera atop the flat screen TV. We were right next to the stairs on the first floor, but didn't have any trouble with noise either from that or the traffic out our window. Big props for the memory foam mattress, too.

You can definitely tell it's an older building, but that didn't bother us. It's a nice little walk to the Marina with a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge, and very close to the Presidio where I had a conference the next day. We had a great stay!

We've spent the last two nights here and, overall, this is an okay establishment - especially for the median price of $145 per night.

Clean and comfortable room/bathroom; decently appointed if not a bit dated; conveniently located; full size ironing board and iron; free parking.

Street noise on the Lombard side; No wi-fi in our room at the far end of the third/top floor because the various routers were all too weak; an air-conditioner that is noisier than a marching band; no mini-fridge; a non-responsive front desk to the wi-fi and air-conditioning issues. I notified them of both - they did NOTHING.

Other reviews make mention of the street noise issue. Pay attention to that detail and do not think being up on the third floor will make a difference. I made that mistake. Not again. And given how loud the street noise is up on the third floor facing Lombard, I can't begin to imagine how blasting loud it must be on the first and second.

This morning my review was four stars. After checking out, I downgraded it to three. I mentioned the non-responded air-conditioning and wi-fi issues to the front desk. Instead of apologizing, some "too good for the rest of us" lady emerged from a back room to tell me the wi-fi issue was clearly caused by other guests hogging bandwidth. When I tried to explain that I had no trouble connecting while anywhere in the hotel, at any time of the day or night - EXCEPT within about ten feet of my room, she said the problem was clearly my ineptitude. I don't care who you are, you DO NOT insult your customers.

WOW this place is a GEM! Paid $134 & free parking! We stayed here on a busy Saturday. Ask for a room next to the alley to avoid the busy streets (Rooms 101-108). It was super quiet throughout the night. Slept like a baby! The hotel itself is clean, compared to other places. I was so happy that it didn't have a nasty stench like other places! Free coffee & tea in the room. I liked the flat screen TV with cable, kudos for having HBO! I should add that it was a FREE movie night! (PG 13 guys!). (P.s. For the ladies; there's free makeup remover in the bathroom!) haha, just thought I'd add that. There's a vending machine with water, juices, soda. Ice vending machine worked, yay! It was also one mile away from the pier and Chinatown, which is a plus! Take an uber, we paid $14 round trip to the pier, or you can walk, might take you about 30 mins to get there. Stay here, you will not regret it! I'm definitely staying here again in the future!

I've stayed here twice now. A friend selected the place several years ago when we did a road trip to the bay. So when I needed a hotel for our trip last month, I was confident in picking Coventry. The fact that they are among the least expensive options in the city made them the easy choice.

I'm happy to report that everything is still great. The people in the lobby were super friendly and helpful. Parking is free and there were plenty of spots when we checked in, but when we returned from our dinner, it was all filled up. Coventry takes care of that by allowing you to double park and leave the car keys with them.

I had forgotten that their beds are all memory foam. We had a great night's rest. The room and bathroom were spacious and clean. If I had one quibble, I wish that the room had a fridge for our dinner leftovers. Otherwise, it was a great overnight stay. I wouldn't hesitate to pick this place again.

Overall, I had a great experience here. I recommend it based on cleanliness, service, location and price. I give those all 5 stars. The service was knowledgeable, friendly, professional and courteous. The location is great because it is very close to public transportation, shopping, a variety of restaurants and a neighborhood corner store (which is right across the street.) Also, the price was better than most the other competitors. If I had to criticize, the room did not have a fridge or microwave, the television was a little difficult to use, and the lobby only had complimentary apples and oranges (a little variety with a banana, cereal or muffins would have been nice.)

This was a perfect hotel for us and our visit to SF Sketchfest. We wanted something clean and mostly quiet and in a good area. This met all the requirements!

We paid $5/day extra for the fridge, well worth it.

A couple things I wish I would have known (not problems with the hotel, just FYI for travelers to the area)
1) Bring a few shopping bags to the area so you don't have to pay at every store you go to.
2) Don't bother bringing your Chromecast unless you also bring a wireless router to plug into the wired connection
3) Tons of shops and restaurants on Chestnut a couple blocks away.

It was large and clean and quiet. Ask for a room off of Lombard so you get a quiet room, too. The only noise we heard was the trash at 7:00 or so AM one day, that's it.

I'm giving this hotel a 5 star review for one reason. Tony. What a kind and professional person. From the moment we arrived, he has been nothing but accomodating and informative. I really do believe that in the hospitality profession, people like him make the industry. From just being genuinely excited about helping, to permantly having an infectious smile on his face, he surely made an impression on us. Thanks for everything, and we will be back.

We found this hotel accidentally walking up the street looking for new accommodations since the place we booked was unacceptable to sleep at. Comments about tony were right on. He was fantastic.  He made sure we were happy with the room before we booked.  It was a large room with a table, chairs and a couch.  Plenty of room for a family with children to relax in after a long day. The cow hollow/marina area  has lots of close shopping and restaurants. Parking and wi-fi are free. If you get in late and there are no parking spots they will stack park your car so you don't have to park on the street.  We were able to walk up Lombard street, with a stroller (with a few breaks) and took the trolley to union square. Had a wonderful trip and we'll book here again. Good service, spacious, clean and affordable accommodations with free parking.  Great deal!

My daughter and I spent three nights here. I primarily picked this place due to the free parking, low cost and closeness to the sites. We took Uber a couple of times for $7 to Union.

We stayed in room 214 and although it wasn't directly facing Lombard St, we were one room off Lombard and facing Buchanan. The traffic is loud, so if you are a light sleeper, you will not want a room close to Lombard.

The rooms were clean, but floors and bedding look dated. I didn't really care for the top cover blankets.

If you are looking for an inexpensive, free parking and in a decent neighborhood hotel, then this works.

Stayed here for a quick visit to see our daughter.  Close location to her and a decent price for SF.
We had a normal king room for $148 a night for the weekend. Pretty cheap!  The room was very clean, quiet and the bed was great!  Bathroom needs to be updated and they should have a fridge in the room. On the upside, if you have a car (which we did not) they give you free parking.
Great location, very nice office staff and I would stay there again.

I have found my home away from home in San Francisco. After staying in everything from crappy disasters close to the Tenderloin to elegant, overpriced luxury hotels in Union Square, I can honestly say this is the first SF hotel where the positives far outweigh any minor negatives.

The unbelievably friendly customer service is what initially sold me on staying here. As I was researching where we could stay for less than $150 a night, I made a phone call to confirm what kind of restrictions would be placed on the free parking that was offered as we were going to need to have access to the lot a few hours before check-in. No problem, I was told. Come as early as you wish, in fact. They even offered to get us in a room early if there was one available.

This kind of interaction continued with the entire staff for the rest of our visit. True to their word, we were able to come and go in the parking areas as freely as we wished. When a bottle opener and extra pillows were needed, they were graciously given.

The room itself was impressively spacious. I've paid close to $250 for a closet by comparison in other areas of the city. It wasn't five-star luxury, but who cares when the bed is super comfy, it's clean, and you've got plenty of room to move around? The bathroom was very modern and nice. Plenty of hot water and a shower head that put out nice pressure. I also liked that all three windows could be opened for some fresh air, though Lombard Street traffic forced us to close up at night.

Before staying here, I wasn't very familiar with this part of the city. Marina/Cow Hollow is a refreshing change from the Tenderloin and even some parts of Union Square. I don't think we had to step over one person or witness anybody urinating in front of us during the entire stay! (Though there is a liquor/convenience store right across the street. Whether that's a positive or a negative probably depends on why you're here). We stayed during Easter weekend and happened upon a spring festival they were doing on Union Street just three blocks up from the hotel. With the street closed to traffic, it was easy to admire all the posh shops and cafes located up there. Or Chestnut Street just one block down has plenty to offer as well.

As others have mentioned, we did have to pay a nominal $5 fee to get a mini-fridge and there's no microwave or minibar. The furnishings are a bit dated and if you need an extra pillow or blanket, you'll probably have to grab it from the front desk. But hey, if that's enough to keep you away from this gem, so be it. More parking spots open for me next time!
