The price is right for this location. Check in was great and the man at the front desk was very friendly. It is an older motel, but needing a one nigter for the labor day weekend this motel was perfect. Room was very clean and managed well. I also asked for a pillow around 5pm and the man at the front desk sad they didnt have any at the time. We then went to dinner and the boardwalk. We came back here around ten pm and there was a new lady on shift. She quickly came out and said she had found us and extra pillow. Wow! Much kudos for that and they must have great communicaion between the staff to relay the message for a need so small such as the pillow request. Overall besides the age of the motel it was a decent stay.

DO NOT STAY HERE unless of course everything else is booked and sleeping in your car is not an option. No WiFi, pool advertised is out of comission, & rooms are cramped. Floors are warped, carpets are ripped, burned & stained. Don't want to risk walking barefoot and catching some foul fungus. Found a cockroach in the bathroom-- it's officially a Roach Motel. Must be related to the Capri in Redwood City that houses all the local sex offenders. I'd be afraid for that newsreporter to come in here with the black light thingy that shows all the icky stains you don't see... and what they are. I'm surprised they don't have an hourly rate if ya' know what I mean. Husband is in the doghouse for booking this online for the honeymoon!

Anyone who stays at any place down by the boardwalk and the flats is crazy! Obvious tourists who do not know any better! The flats is the ghetto area in SC for drug buying and is very dangerous. Ever NOTICE how difficult it is to get into the flats? Purposely designed with all the do not enter-one way-signs so dummy tourists do not drive through it. Better to pay more and stay in a decent place.

This place is terrible. Rude owners, no amenities, super dirty and old. Wouldn't give my deposit back. Good thing it was only 20 bucks

    Please don't stay here.

Carpet is heavily stained and ripped.

The paint on the walls are cracked and peeling.

Swimming pool has debris in it.

    Bathtub has stains in it.

Bed was.......very very used. I don't think they've changed it since the motel opened.

If you're just looking for a cheap motel to sleep in then this place is for you.

I was afraid I wouldn't be alive the next morning.

If you're looking for a cheap hotel that offers you a place to hide from crazy transient's that maybe chasing you, or you need a place to hide out from the FBI look no further! The Capri Motel is for you!!!!

Location is perfect for Santa Cruz- right in the beach flats. Just a couple blocks from the boardwalk and a couple blocks from downtown. Right across from the river. My brother and I brought our bikes with us, so we were able to leave the car and ride all over.

Thats the way to see Santa Cruz! The hotel staff of one, was accommodating, and totally cool with us bringing bikes into the room. To tell you the truth he was so anxious to get a paying customer in there her would have let us do anything.

Hotel room was basic- a little t.v., and a bathroom. The sheets were new..........back in 1980. But, hey!! A couple of small holes in the sheets never hurt anyone.
The carpet, well I dont know I tried not to look down too often. All in all the hotel was a typical beach flat's santa cruz cheap motel- you can choose anyone on Riverside but the Capri is right across from the levy and a couple blocks from the beach.

Very cheap motel. Beds were as hard as the floor. Carpets were sticky and nasty. No coffee pot or even an alarm clock. It's the end of June and I could skateboard in the pool. The lady that ran the place was nice which is a plus.

I originally got this room because it was the cheapest on Booking.com (this is not at all their fault) and my friend was on a budget.
I will start by saying we had no pre-bias going to the place just the fear that I might not be able to get in because I am not 21 yet. However we got in and were told no visitors and no pets. We agreed. However we didn't know that it meant no visitors even in the day.
Basically my friends and I were going to a concert and realized we left some stuff in the room so two of us went back but forgot the spare key. Immediately after I asked for a spare key they clerk ran to their room in the back off the office and started watching me and the 2 others I was with go into the room. The manager IMMEDIATELY had her son call our room(whom I believe was younger than myself) to yell at us to hurry up and back everything and drop of the keys . I explained to him what was going on and he just kept yelling get everyone out or lose your room. So of course everyone left.
Then when we checked out we found out we were going to get charged for 2 extra people staying claiming "cameras saw visitors in the night" when you cant find a single camera outside so I don't know what they were taking about beside the cameras of their stalking eyes.
Instead of arguing I paid the difference because I did not want to have to deal with them and they're ridiculous nonsense anymore. Which looking back on it I should have argued with them but you live and you learn.
    PROS:
    -Can be cheap
-Super close to Boardwalk, Catalyst and other cool Santa Cruz stuff
-I guess non stop security lol
    CONS:
    -non stop security
-you're treated more as a child then a guess
-place wasn't that clean or even painted right
-they tell you to do SUS stuff like you MUST close window currents to leave room
-No bagels or anything basic in the morning

    DEFINETLY WON'T BE GOING BACK

I love the Capri.  I have stayed at many motels in Santa Cruz, CA, and almost all the owners of the other places have been rude & shi**y to me, except for here.  It's in decent shape, always clean, and it's about the same price as all the other cheaper ones in town.

If I was going on my honeymoon or something, this wouldn't be the place I would pick!  But for a place to sleep while in Santa Cruz, where they treat you nice & it's clean, this is a good place...  :)

Lots of hotels near the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk have rates in the nature of $180-$200 per night.  Not this one.  It's a block from the Boardwalk and is about $30-$50 cheaper than those others that are across the street from it.

It's serviceable.  The beds are actually comfy and the place doesn't come off as being all that dumpy at all.  Rooms were fairly clean.

That being said, people are talking and walking around the hotel until the wee hours.  Noisy traffic and bright headlights are omnipresent.  Okay, there were no bellhops, but we got an okay place to sleep that night for a few bucks less than some of the other places around.  No swimming pool in operation, but the beach is a few blocks away, so whatever.  If you want a decent, cheap hotel room in Santa Cruz, this will fit the bill.

Stayed in Santa Cruz for a night and love our stay here, we booked a single queen bed but to find out they were out but the lady behind the counter was kind enough to give us a larger room with 2 queens. Stripped the beds to check for stains or bed bugs and everything came out clean. The price was cheap for being a couple blocks from the board walk. Will be staying here again on our next trip

Oh the Capri, one of the few motels I've stayed in California.

I wasn't disappointed at all by the room and what it had to offer.

It's very cheap if you're on a budget. FREE WIFI amigos!

It's not that far form the Boardwalk.

The only problem is that they remove the coffee wayyy to early, we know it's free but come on we need our morning caffeine!!

C and I needed a bare-bones, sleep/clean/go place for our NYT's 36 Hours trip to Santa Cruz.  Our room ($133 for Thursday and Friday night) was upstairs, and we found the no-frills motel satisfactory, if cramped.  This place is not-so-much with families, and the tiny pool was being filled in with sand when we arrived to check-in, but no matter - I was actually pretty pleased with our room, and was looking forward to writing a favorable review.

Though it received mediocre ratings on several sites, I was swayed by the cute, retro sign (I'm a design geek, and this is going to haunt me in the next paragraph).  There were several complaints about a un-maneuverable parking lot, and I found this to be true, but was of little import since I'm a Ninja.

I also read two posts about bedbugs and since I'm working on optimism, I decided to take a chance.  I loathe to say this and I'm shivering in repulsion as I'm typing, but I must inform my fellow travelers:  upon waking the second day, I found myself covered from neck to ankle in extremely itchy, red BEDBUG BITES.  Eleven, to be exact.  I've never had bites like this before, and now I'm a semi-expert on this particular pest.

Suffice it to say, we hightailed it out of there, and washed absolutely everything when we got home.

Never stay here! I stayed here once and I will never waste my money again. Nasty, dirty and smelly room with a bed that felt like a cardboard box! There was a hole in the shower wall in the corner and no hot water. This was my worst experience ever staying in a hotel! I would have rather slept in my car!!!!

This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in!!! The room STINKS LIKE CIGARETTES AND MOLD, the hot water didn't work, my air conditioner didn't work, the beds are hard, The room is small, the customer service was rude, The towels feel like sandpaper and  we asked for an iron and ironing board,  they made us walk down to the front desk to go get it instead of bringing it up to our room and on top of that the ironing board was broken... FUCK THIS PLACE... GHETTO AS HELL!!!

This place is Horrible! It doesn't deserve 1 star. I had a room next to the owners.....it smelled like B.O. . room was extremely dirty...the short ugly woman working (owner) was rude....making personal phone calls while I was waiting to check in. I would rather sleep on a park bench than stay here again! Unless you like stale curry scent... Then I advise to stay away from this place.
The bright side....it is close to the beach.

I would give a no-star review to this motel but Yelp doesn't allow it so a one-star will have to do. A no-star review goes to the Capri motel in Santa Cruz because they canceled our reservation without giving us a call. Sure our credit card declined that we were holding the room with, but we were advised that our credit card would not be charged. Had we known we could've given them a different card and avoided this whole mess. So when we arrive for our four-day Santa Cruz vacation we have no room and the rate that we are promised has vanished and we are stuck scrambling to find another motel. This forces us to pay $120 more than we would have for our stay; not good! Thanks for nothing Capri Motel and booking.com ! If we were to gain entry into this motel it didn't look very nice or clean from the outside & smelled funny in the lobby; in the long run I'm glad we didn't have to stay in these digs. Really the motel market in Santa Cruz is a racket. there are dozens of rundown cheap motels that charge well over $100 a night, (pre-tax and city charge), because of location; service not good, appearance not good, conditions of rooms not good; Santa Cruz needs a new motel industry. I don't mind paying for a decent room, but don't rip me off.

HORRIBLE!! This really is a ghetto hotel! The rooms smell disgusting! And if you leave the room, your are not allowed to leave the window open! The bed is literally on a metal box and it makes so much noise! When we woke up, my husband had bedbugs bites ! And one even fell in my phone! The shower were disgusting it smelled like Clorox but had mold on the shower head and top corner. The parking lot is too small, after I know that my truck isn't going to fit. The air conditioner didn't even work! Worst hotel ever. Even if it was $140 FOR ONE NIGHT.

It's like three blocked away from the boardwalk. That was the only good thing.
