This hotel is in need of a major remodel...phew...they will actually be renovating from November thru next May.

Location, location, location.  That's pretty much how they get you...and at  $350 per night  you'll only be dreaming of a blow-dryer.

The staff is kind, but operates by a Santa Cruz clock, so don't expect efficiency when picking up your car from the complimentary valet, calling the front desk to ask where the blow dryer is, or phoning housekeeping for towels (the line was busy all morning).

The bathroom only spewed out cold water at 6:30 this morning, however, I had better luck at 10:30am.  Pipes must be tweaking.  Be sure to BYOS...shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, hair dryer.  But they do have a coffee machine located in your vanity (along w/complimentary joe), so do enjoy!

The rooms themselves are dated and offer few amenities aside from the view.  Unfortunately, this is the largest hotel in Santa Cruz, and very conveniently located (2 minutes by foot from the boardwalk), so you pretty much have no other options unless you score on a vacation rental.

Despite the meager hotel accommodations at the Coast, it is still a pleasant getaway and is due to get better before next summer.

When you work at a startup and your company decides to have an offsite, it's generally equates to mad drinking into the wee hours after "official business" is taken care of.

Standard hotel conference resources and the rooms are decent for business or getaway travel, although it's a quaint older establishment. Great view of the Ocean especially if you're on one of the upper floors.

My old co-workers and I started drinking at one of the rooms near the pool, then we went and owned the hotel bar for a few hours, then walked down the hill to the liquor store to stock up some more. Next thing you know half the company is swimming in the ocean, people are tearing up their rooms rock star style, and there's puke-age going on all over the place. Heck our CEO was so wasted "sippin' the 'ngac" that he tried to squeeze himself through the semi open locked sliding door, when the one ten feet away is wide open. To top it off the next morning you find your General Counsel with his head buried in his hands sitting in the hallway. Good times.

A 3 star hotel that is nicely upgraded. Management and staff get 1 star. It is a very nice location for Santa Cruz. It is right on the beach with beach access from the pool. That being said, the staff and management seem very entitled and rude. My family and I went down for a 1 night stay to get out of town and do a day trip (we are from Northern California). Our negative experiences included the fact that check in was at 4 P.M. (we arrived at 3:30 PM and the room was not ready), the valet was not there upon returning from our dinner at 10 PM, the valet was not very nice to my wife, and the front desk workers were powerless and did not try to help. That being said you can't stay one night and enjoy the beach and the sunset. Obviously, the hotel has cut corners with housekeeping because check out is 11 AM and check in is 4 PM. They have cut down on costs by cutting down on house keepers making it inconvenient for guests.

Best location in Santa Cruz... You can't get any better. Beach access from the pool. Can hear the waves crashing from bed. Great pool side bar. Only reason it got four stars instead of five is because the prices are insane and the walls are thin... Screaming 2 yr old was pretty annoying next door. Room was clean and staff were all friendly and happy to help. I will def me coming back... Provides a great location to relax beachside with unbelievable views from the room!

Stayed here Easter weekend and it was great! Queen / ocean view and it was perfect for our family of four's staycation. Valet gentlemen were helpful and friendly. Tim who helped us with our luggage and took his time explaining some things about the poolside area was super friendly and just plain nice! We stay in a lot of hotels and I'd have to say this is one of the best when it comes to hospitality. Every employee we came in contact with had a smile on their face and seemed to be enjoying their job. We will defiantly stay here again!! Thank you!!

I was about to give a "not so favorable" review until the Valet supervisor "JJ" came up to us as we were leaving to discuss a problem we had with one of his staff members. His quick action in response to the problem left us with a favorable impression that he cares about his customers and takes pride in his job! Thank you JJ, we will recommend this hotel to friends.

Why does this hotel have only 8 reviews? It is because the management is trying to cover up their serious issues with customer service and management of this hotel that have been exposed in many, many reviews. Which is a shame, because even though it is pricey and not the cleanest hotel, the pool deck feels like it is right on the beach.

It's all about the view!  I can't tell you how many times I've stayed at hotels that claim to have ocen views, but don't really have them. the dream Inn has the most amazing ocean views from pretty much every room as stated in the description. the staff is very warm and welcoming and catering to your every need. facility wise could perhaps use a little updating but an awesome place none the less. would definitely return.

Great hotel with beautiful views!. The hotel staff were great I love how there was a pool bar restaurant everything in the hotel. There was also a valet parking. But most of all I love that the hotel is right on the sand and close to everything we didn't have to drive to go to amazing restaurants or to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.

I don't know - but maybe it's just me - I had a great stay (4 nights in Feb and 4 nights in May '15) at this hotel.

The hotel was clean, the valets were efficient and really friendly, the rooms were comfortable, clean and up to date with even the ability to stream movies from my iPhone (bring your own cable) without having to move the TV. Basic free wifi was adequate to do the job.  Room service was flawless and effortless (food wasn't piping hot but it was edible and good). The front desk was mostly very firendly but ALWAYS professional. BEST VIEWS IN SANTA CRUZ! The restaurant attached (Aquaius) allowed us to bypass the sub-par wharf restaurants.

This is my 1st choice near the beach and boardwalk.  I am not a fan of the "cheap"er motels where you need to pack your own blacklight to check the cleanliness of the beds and linens. No stains here - lol

This is a definite must stay in my book.

I was lucky enough to get a Cloud Level room, the views were amazing. I slept with the sliding door open and I felt right on the water. The staff was friendly and bed was very comfortable. Only issue I found was with the toilet flushing, it lacked pressure.

A lot of little things made the stay challenging. Brought to managers attention. Appreciated feedback but appears these operational issues have been around for some time due to other reviews. If you can handle the operational issues it may be worth the trip. Other than being on the beach we would try another hotel next visit.
Pros-great location right on the beach. Only a few hundred yards from the Boardwalk. Rooms were clean. Staff was friendly.
Cons-Not picking up breakfast order for room service. Breakfast was comped but the restaurant out of Diet Pepsi. Extra towels requested to room but not delivered. Drink order was out so swapped out without asking and was still charged. Out of pool towels for hours. Drink over poured with alcohol at the pool. Receipt requested two days, had .comm in their system for email address. Left item in room, no call from room service for two days.

I realize there are a lot of hit and miss reviews on yelp and it is hard to base some places strictly on their reviews and this is one of them.
We went to the Dream Inn for Spring Break, it was also almost our son's Bday so he wanted to go somewhere he had never been.
I booked a one bedroom suite and asked for a early check in at 1PM, we ended up getting there at about 10:45am and they got us right into our room. We were at the end of the hall and had a gorgeous suite with the beach right below us, first thing my kids said is, "it looks like we are in Hawaii" Yeah!
We immediately got settled and headed to the pool only to find other families we knew from where we live there, I guess if you are going to Santa Cruz, the dream inn is the place to stay.
They have a lot of rooms right by the pool but they all seemed to be basic queen rooms, not suites.
At night they light the fire pits and it is just stunning to sit and watch the water, we saw dolphins and lots of seals!
Definitely, a fun getaway close to home
The staff was all nice, even gifted our son some local taffy for his bday!
