I would honestly say that I would never consider coming here again. I would rather spend a little more money for one night than get stuck in a "nonsmoking" room that wreaked of cigarettes. I'll take a pass. They are dog friendly but they fail to mention the pet fee must be paid in cash only. Plus there's no grass anywhere near where the little ones can relieve themselves. Poor doggy had to go behind the dumpster.. eek methinks not.

Can I rate this place a O?  Small. Dirty. No AC. Fan broken. Coke machine broken. Nasty/ drunk owner. We stayed only long enough to book another hotel and beat feet out of there as fat as possible.

Absolutely the worst place I have ever stayed! Torn screens, no AC, no wi-fi, no iron, no hair dryer, no clock, no house keeping, with piles of old mattresses and dirty laundry in the end of the parking lot!  The TV was old...old...old!  Tables had been through a lot.  Chipped glass on long table. Didn't even make the bed until night before we left. Used online to make four night reservation, but found a sign saying "no refunds" on the office window, so we were stuck. DO NOT STAY HERE!

For the price, it was good. Clean beds, clean bathroom, clean shower. If I have to be picky, the wifi was spotty and the walls are paper thin. It wasn't the most aesthetically pleasing room but if you ballin on a budget it's definitely good value.

I walked into the room to find the bed stripped.  I called the desk boy and he brought bedclothes and made it up, but insisted on providing one sheet and one sheet only. The bathroom window wouldn't open, even in the face of his Herculean efforts, so I could not get a breeze through the room to cool it off.  (Good thing I was alone). Some fellow fellow guests arrived around midnight and seemed intent on demonstrating their indifference to the comfort of others, with their car sound system powered up and then their setting about to screaming and laughing outside in the common area.  To top it off the wifi, advertised as free, did not work.   A lot of value that amounted to.  When I suggested a partial reimbursement, he informed me how fortunate I was to have found lodging in Santa Cruz.

DO NOT STAY HERE! i repeat, DO NOT STAY HERE! The toilet leaks water everytime you flush, there is no showerhead in shower, the room and everything in it gets extremely moist when you take a shower. Water drips from the doorways and tv. Poor air circulation. Very cold room ! Heater does not work! They charged my card $250 to stay for three nights when I clearly asked for 4 nights! Im still waiting for my refund to appear in my bank account! DONT STAY HERE !

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING! They should get minus starts.

It's filthy. There were ants all over the bathroom. Broken tv. No wifi.Smoke alarm kept going off. The front attendant said he couldn't do anything at all. I have tried to contact the manager three times, with no call back. Shame on Expedia for even having them on their site.

Do not reserve! We walked into the front office to get a room and the attendant and a customer were arguing loudly.  We felt very awkward and suggested that the attendant just give the man his refund, because that's what you do to get customers to come back. The Attendant refused,  the customer was screaming that he was going to post pictures of the trash and hypodermic needle left in room on yelp.  It seems this hotel has some major kinks to work out. There were some sketchy people walking around, but that's all I noticed.  The exterior wasn't trashy, but had a cheap beachy feel.  It could actually be cool if they took better care of their customers. They might need a name change and remodel after all of this, or they could suffer getting shut down.

RED FLAG WARNING - Do not even reserve a room here with "free cancellation of reservations" on any hotel booking site. They change the policy on you, even if you only had the reservation for *5* minutes, and you booked it late at night, and immediately tried to correct it. Don't believe "free cancellation" because the confirmation email comes back with "can't be changed or cancelled without paying the entire amount - even if it's several days before hand!) They charge ultra high prices, too, for what they're offering.

They lie about why they can't cancel (3 different stories!) and even lie to say they're turning people away and can't cancel for that reason. (If you have that many people to try to turn away, surely you can handle a cancellation?)  VERY shady business. Stalling, delaying, etc. Wish I'd seen the Yelp reviews before picking this place accidentally! (it shares a very similar name with another property that has a much higher rating and reputation.)
    Be warned.

This is the worst, slimiest, most unethical business you could imagine. They lied to us again, saying that they would not charge us for the hotel room, and then they did any way. Fraud is too kind a word for these people.

This is the worst hotel ever!! Just plain dirty. When we entered the room to put our stuff on the bed there was little black hair all over our bed. extremely small, no lighting, no heating, no air-conditioning. The water pressure sucks, the temperature changes when you flush the toilet or turn on the faucet. The only reason I gave them one star is because you have to in order to write a review.

Will never be going back here. Ever! Rate: 0

    1. Room reeked of havoc and cigarettes
    2. No AC. Which wouldn't normally matter if I wasn't sleeping in an oven.
    3. Bathroom door didn't close. Which also wouldn't matter if I wasn't sharing a room and wanted to take a s#*% in peace.
    4. No WIFI. I had an online assignment do that night and was really counting on that. I called the front to inquire. He told me "I'll restart the modem". I think telling me that was the most effort he put into dealing with my situation. I ended up buying an hour of interment from another website.
    5. Sketchy area. Lots of strange people wandering around.
    6. Leaky shower faucet. Not just a little, I think their water bill is on the higher side because of that.
    7. False advertisement. Pictures do not resemble the place.

    1. Had a place to stay
    2. Cheapest in the area
    3. Won't be going again, so it doesn't matter.

Seriously, not worth it being a little cheaper. If rather spend a little more next time and actually have a good night.

About 2 weeks I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights 2 days. The experience was HORRIBLE.
    1. No pillows!? And when I went to ask for some they only gave us 1!
    2. I woke up with so many bed bug bites. I wasn't able to sleep. Basically there was no sign of good hygiene.

I don't care how decent the price is, I do not recommend this place to ANYONE. I would give them negative 5 stars if I could.

This is the worst motel ever! It's filthy, old and creepy. The bed wasn't even made and all the appliances look like they're from the early 1990s. Super creepy rooms and very unhelpful front desk people. Our room was given to another person and we got a room that wasn't tended to. TV was broken...I highly recommend to pick another motel

It was the week before school started again and I needed to find a hotel for my brother at the last minute. I drove to 10 different hotels and stumbled upon Ocean Hotel. When I first passed it, there was no vacancy, but when I passed it the following time, there was suddenly a vacancy.

We walked up to the window and there were two ladies in line first. From first glance, the ladies were trying to buy a room, but didn't have enough money. The customer service representative was only accepting cash, no credit cards, so the girls left.

I asked the CSR how much for the room and he said $165 per night, but that he only had a room that had previously been slept in. He said no one was available to change the sheets so we could have that room if we paid cash. We were in a bind... I told him I would go get cash, but I was willing to pay for multiple nights if he could simply bill my card (American Express Platinum or Visa Signature). He seemed to grow increasingly annoyed by the fact I didn't have cash on me (cash also doesn't have recourse and this place was pretty shady). Finally, he turned the sign on and said there was now no vacancy and he couldn't help me.

I asked him if we could still have the room for the night if we went and got cash and he walked away from the window and pretended to not hear me.

I've seen some pretty awful customer service in my life, but never something as shady and dishonest as this experience.

Pretty shabby place. The bathrooms are old, the non-smoking rooms smell like smoke and Indian food, and the other patrons stayed up all night partying, which kept us awake. I wouldn't want to stay here again.

That said, the staff was friendly, and they were willing to negotiate price. We were told the room would be $190 and we negotiated down to $160. It was the cheapest option we could find for two queens beds in the city.

If you stay here, be sure to bring your scented candle.
