    The room could've used a good cleaning. A bit dirty with stains on bedding. It also smelled musty/smoky and had a very tiny bathroom . Apparently, they get business no matter what kind of customer service is provided because of the decent location. Unfortunately, this has caused the establishment to become cocky. The staff was extremely cold and rude, especially the manager. I noticed a suspicious unlabeled charge (substantial amount) on my receipt. When I questioned the manager, he had the nerve to blow up at me and said that people like me that "cause trouble" would not be welcome back again! I tried to reason with him calmly that I just needed to know what the extra charge was for, but he said it had been explained to me that we would be charged for another half day if we stayed past 11am. I had been told no such thing! This conversation took place at 11:05 at the front desk , but we had already left the room by 11am! ON TIME. The manager refused to remove the bogus charge. I am currently filing a dispute through my CC company.

    Typical basic motel - bed and bath. The room we stayed in was pretty run down but relatively clean. Wallpaper was peeling a bit and the bathroom sink top was peeling away at the edges. TV looked pretty new but did not turn on so no idea of quality of reception. The pool is quite small, there is no hot tub/spa. Breakfast was coffee and donuts. Paid outrageous rate for room but so did everywhere due to 4th of July holiday. I would rate this as a typical $70 - $80 room.

    This place was flat-out terrible.  The biggest problem was with the rude and aggressive woman at the front desk.  We had a confirmed reservation and because she didn't understand it, she didn't honor it and furthermore actually implied that we were somehow at fault.  In short, this place was terrible because we just wanted to enjoy Santa Cruz and this woman made our arrival miserable.

    Great place to stay. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The staff is really friendly and prides itself on the up keep of the hotel. The breakfast room was recently remodeled and provides a great continental breakfast. We had many plans for the day that included going down to the Boardwalk and starting off within a few miles made it a great trip. I will definitely stay again.

    The rates are a bit expensive, but for Santa Cruz during the summer that is expected.

    Great value and great place.

    Lady manager was so nice, and pretty humorous. Rooms are decent for the price. Includes fridge and a nice complementary breakfast in the morning. Coffee was stella! Will stay here again if I ever need a hotel in SC.

    This place was the pits.

    Let's start with the fact that 4 or 5 days before we were to arrive there my wife got a call from a relative saying they had room for us to stay with them.  We were going to Santa Cruz for a wedding and would definitely have preferred to stay with family.  So, tried to cancel and get our money refunded.   Hotels.com said, "No, reservation was non refundable.  Hotel won't let us do that."  Hotel (Motel really) manager said, "No, reservation was non refundable.   Hotels.com won't let us do that."  In hindsight I'd have been better off telling them to keep the money and staying with the relative anyway.

    Woman at front desk had the attitude that we were interrrupting her favorite TV show by checking in.

    Place not too well maintained in my opinion.  There was more than a little bit of corrosion on the bathroom fixtures.  Faded chipping paint all over.  Been to other QI's that were in much better shape than this one.

    Exterior lights outside our room on the second floor and on the stairs after dark were not turned on until several hours after dark - around 10 PM.

    Toilet backed up and overflowed Sunday afternoon while we were getting ready to go to the wedding.  Noone picked up the phone at the front desk.  Walk up to office.  It's locked.  Sign on the door says they "stepped out".  Had to run around and find a maid that was cleaning another room to get her to get a plunger and deal with our bathroom so we could make it to the wedding on time.

    When I got back to the room after the wedding I sent an email to the Hotel email address detailing all of the above and how dissatisifed I was.  No one bothered to reply.  At least they're consistent.

    There are many other hotels in Santa Cruz to choose from.  Avoid this one.

    We stayed overnight at this place on the weekend of 10/24-10/25.  First of all, at $121.54 it was expensive for the type of place and for what it didn't have.  Allow me elaborate...

    The room is not special.  It's an average-sized motel room.  Upon entering our room, the furniture looked very worn and the paint was chipped/worn/faded on the armrests.  The carpet looked dingy and appeared to have not been cleaned in quite some time.

    The bathroom was rather cramped.  With a child in tow, it gets even more cramped.  The bathroom walls showed evidence of where grab bars used to be, or whatever tub fixture was there before, as they filled the holes in but didn't even bother to properly paint it so that it's less noticeable.

    The parking lot is very small.  They do have a small parking structure in the back, but I didn't even venture in there because I didn't feel the need to get stuck trying to get out of there.

    Their pool (if you can even call it that) is extremely small by most standards compared to other places I've been.  It also had a "POOL CLOSED" sign hung on the gate.  So, that killed any possibility of it being used by anyone  Not that I would have rushed out to do a cannonball or anything like that in late October!  The weather's not conducive for it anyway - which probably explains why it's closed.  But, still, most other places I've been had heated pools and Santa Cruz seems to have a dearth of decent motels to choose from according to most reviews I've read on Expedia's website.

    Their continental breakfast was okay.  It really is what you'd expect for a small motel this size.  They had pastries, bread that you can toast and put foodservice condiments on (jams, preserves, margarine, etc.), dry cereal, some fruit, coffee, tea, milk, and a waffle iron to make a large Belgian waffle yourself.

    Their front counter service was okay, but not stellar by any means.  They only have one person on duty per shift, it seems, which means that person is going to be stretched thin while checking people in, answering the phones, and processing customers who are checking out.  I saw this while checking in and checking out the next day.  Not a good way to make an impression with customers.

    But, I will give them a few positive points.  The room was just big enough for the three of us as it had two beds (we requested that).  The closet was decent for our needs, but otherwise would also be considered small.

    Again, referring to the breakfast, it's decent and will take care of your basic needs.  The breakfast room, however, is very small and can get crowded/cramped if everybody is in there at the same time.  There's just enough seating for about 6-7 people at a time.

    One big point I will give them was that they were fairly reasonable and flexible in accommodating our concerns when the Bonny Doon/Lockheed Fire broke out in late August - the original date that we booked.  I explained that we didn't want my child and elderly mother exposed to the particulates from the fire should the wind shift direction, which it did.  Also, I told them that we didn't want to cancel our reservation, just change the date.  My wife found another date a couple of months down the road that had the same rate for the same room type and they were amenable to the change.

    But, this last point almost wiped out everything gained in the goodwill department:  they tacked on an ex post facto $3 safe charge, which was seen on our credit card statement.  My wife brought it to my attention and I just said, "I don't know what the heck the $3 charge was for.  Ask them, they're the ones who tacked it on."  When she called them, that's when she found out what it was.

    You see, there is a small room safe that is bolted to the bottom of the closet space on a very short pedestal mount.  My wife didn't see it because she wasn't looking for it and it was set so low that it escaped her notice.  I, on the other hand, saw the safe but didn't use it.  We were only staying overnight and I didn't have anything valuable to put in there anyway and didn't bother bringing it to her attention.  The motel went on to say that it's a standard charge and not many people know about it.

    Now, my wife's an accountant and she pays attention to the small details.  That's why she's good at what she does.  That's why she also disputed it because, when we checked in, she looked over the paperwork before she signed it.  The "contract" she signed was no larger than a piece of pad paper and she said that she didn't see anything about a safe charge being mentioned on it when she read it.

    Although they reversed the charge and said the refund will show up on our next statement, I thought that it was very underhanded.  That is something that really left a bad feeling in me.  Don't nickel-and-dime your customers!

    OMG I have no clue how this property could ever rate more than two stars I'm being generious. Yeah I got a good rate for one nite (Sat) of 88.00. Given the condition of the room (114) It should of been an hourly rate if you get my drift. Reservation process online was fine. Check in was fine. It fell apart when I opened the door to the room...at first glance carpeting surely had not be cleaned since, who knows when. I wore socks the whole time I was in the room. Look up..water and patch marks from ceiling leaks. TV no flat screen..some TV from the 1980's..it did have a remote....channel selection very limited...yes free wifi..the further you are from the office the worse it gets. Bed..actually not bad..I did tear the entire bed down looking for bedbugs..none found. Furniture very worn and again had not been cleaned in years. I put a towel down when I sat in the chair. Varnish coming off the chair. Three lamps in the room only one worked. Bathroom..good amt of towels toliet..they need to replace them with low flow. had to squat to prevent my balls from falling into the water. Cut my toe on the piece of metal coming up between the carpeting and tile in the bathroom. In room coffee maker did not work.  Continental breakfast (free) was actually ok (coffee, juice, fruit, cereal,toast,waffles). Multiple events in the area..thought about staying another nite as every thing in the area was sold out...they wanted $149.00 for the room..I laughed..paid the bill and checked out. Just keep driving by this property the place is a dump.

    It all depends on what you are looking for but I found this place quaint and suprisingly affordable.  We got a walk in rate of $69 a nite and were were less than two minutes from downtown and five minutes from the boardwalk.  We were right by the exit to 1 & 17 which is super convienent.  We got a room that walked out on a patio that was covered with flowing plants and trees.  Our room itself was clean with a large bed and four pillows which is always a plus.  Unless you are a ritz hotel seeker this is a great location and deal!  Funny of the stay there were ducks in the pool!

    Great stay in a great city!
    This isn't a 5 star hotel, but you get more than you actually pay for! The rooms were nice with TV, wi-fi, and comfortable beds which was great after being out in the sun all day.
    The Breakfast was pretty standard, coffee, pastries, toast, juice, etc. The waffles however were a pleasant surprise :D
    It was also relatively close to downtown and the beach, especially by car, and the front staff were really helpful in giving out directions and suggesting must-sees in santa cruz.

    I like the Quality Inn chain but this location was just awful. I stayed here last year in April. I was placed on the ground floor which was convenient but it was a big mistake as I can hear everything that occurred on the room right above mine. Too much floor creaking and other noises not worth mentioning here. The room looked old and beaten down. The only good thing was that the room was clean but that's because of the efficient work of the cleaning maids. The breakfast was not all that and the orange juice was watered down. I would not stay here again.

    I'm not sure where some of the previous people stayed, but for $65/night it was a perfectly fine hotel.  From the outside it looks run down, but my room (second floor, 1 queen bed) was pretty big by most hotel standards and included a desk, separate vanity, couch, coffeemaker, tv, ect...  The water in the shower was super hot, the linens seemed clean, and there was free wi-fi.  The breakfast was decent as well (I made 2 waffles and had some coffee) - what more can you really expect for that price?

    My only complaints are that each of the light switches have a night light on them, but since there are a lot of light switches there are a lot of night lights, and the room doesn't really get all that dark at night.  Also, I tried to check in at 2pm and the manager told me that I needed to find something to do for an hour because no one was allowed to check in before 3pm.  I asked if I could have the wi-fi password early (I had already paid for the room in advance, so it's not like I was going to steal his wi-fi or something) and he refused that as well, saying that I would get the password when I got the room key (and no, the password wasn't tied to the room key or anything like that).  I dunno, the manager just seemed....odd.  Anyway, it's a perfectly fine hotel for what you are paying for, and if I am back in Santa Cruz I would probably stay there again.

    Pretty much your average 2 star motel.  The rooms are nicely sized and clean.  There were some ants spotted in the bathroom, other than that for a $60/night offseason rate you can't complain.

    +1 for a very comfy king sized bed and a nice tv with HBO

    -1 for no hot tub, no tea, and only styrofoam cups

    All and all I wouldn't object to staying again, but will probably try something different for my next trip down.

    Everything is old and shabby plus you will boil and freeze in the shower, all at the same time. Well lit at night and clean. Normally $189 late September but we secured the late booking fee of $149. At $60 I would give this hotel four stars. At $149 it's one.

    Nothing fancy, but front desk personnel were nice and able to give advice and directions.  Queen beds were comfortable with lots of pillows, shower had enough pressure and the heat was fairly quiet for an older unit.  Lots of cable channels on the flat screen tv.  Central location, but quiet at night.  Breakfast included waffles.  Only three tables in the eating area, and there's a sign on the door asking that you don't take food back to your room, so not sure how they handle it when they're busy.

    The WORST experience I have EVER had in Santa Cruz! I've stayed at many hotels all over ocean street and they have always been a pleasant experience. I will NEVER stay here again!!!

    First of all the desk clerk was a total bitch! She was super rude and not friendly whatsoever! And they charged me $20 extra because we had 2 extra people stay the night! WTF??! I've never had that happen. And the morning after we tried to extend the check out till noon and they wanted to charge me an extra $20!!! Ugh, NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!

    It's worth it to just shell out a little more cash for a pleasant experience!

    I was very surprised at how good this hotel was. As someone who has stayed in many motels while trying to save money on the road, this place was more than adequate.

    We got a king size bed for 2 on a Sunday night for $60. The room was clean, had HBO, came with a coffeemaker, had a good heater/AC, included a safe, and was hassle-free getting checked in around 8pm. I read an earlier review that made comments about the minimal safe-fee... really! I could care less paying 4 more dollars for a safe place to put my laptop or jewelry while I leave for the night when all the other hotels of less condition cost at least $20 more.

    I recommend that if the price is right here when you need a room that the accommodations will satisfy.

    Rooms in Santa Cruz can be very pricey. Through the hotels web site I was able to get a rate under $80.00. My room was on the bottom floor at the rear and was very quite.

    The only problem I had was with the free WiFi, for some reason it would not allow my Mac Book to connect. The room did have a ethernet connection and the motel lent me a cable.

    Nice small motel at a great rate.

    Just got back from staying at the Quality Inn in Santa Cruz and we were impressed. Yes, it's a motel but we wanted something cheap but nice enough...not an expensive 5 star Hilton. We only paid $89 from July 4-7th, which was a good deal in comparison to other places. It fulfilled all of our needs and there was really nothing to complain about.

    Room: The room was very clean and had enough towels. We had a fridge, microwave and coffee maker.  The room had a nice comfortable king size bed with lots of pillows. There was a TV and FREE wifi (although, a little slow at times), but hey, it's free! We were here for the week during 4th of July, and it was very quiet at night.

    Breakfast: The breakfast was good considering it was free, so I don't know what people are complaining about. They had waffles, cereal, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, muffins, danishes, english muffins, toast w/jam, milk, juice, coffee. Someone was always refilling the food immediately if it ran out, so I was impressed by that. The seating area in the breakfast room is pretty  little small, but that didn't matter because we would just go to the outdoor patio on the 2nd floor of the motel and eat there.

    Location: So the location was a little further away from the beach than we would have wished, but it was $20-$60 cheaper per night to stay at the Quality Inn as opposed to a similar place on the boardwalk, so I was happy about the savings. The Quality Inn is close to a lot of places to eat along Ocean Street and is directly across from McDonald's and Marianne's ice cream (awesome ice cream), so that is a plus!

    Overall, we were both impressed with the quality for the price we paid and would stay here again and recommend it to others.

    Nice hotel.  Furniture was a bit scuffed up but it was clean and comfortable.  Lots of seating room so all 4 of us could go back and forth from room to room and not be crowded.  A/C is around the corner from the beds, so it's not blaring in your ear all night and not blowing directly on you.  The staff is great, and the price is very reasonable.  Safe area, close to everything.  We booked with a total of 4 girls for a bday and the owner was very accomodating and put us in adjoining rooms.  Very friendly and good sense of humor.  Also gave us late check out.  We will definitely be staying here again.

    I was unsure what to expect based on the mixed reviews but it turned out this place was totally fine. We were looking for a decent semicheap place to spend the night after going to see a concert and this fit the bill exactly. It's motel style, so we requested a room off the ground floor and ended up on the 3rd floor which is worth asking for. Only the back  part of the building goes up that high so our location helped cut down on foot and road traffic.
    The room was nothing to write home about but was clean and not as shabby as others commented and the bed was comfortable.   In the morning as we were headed out I saw at least three different maids on the premises, which I took as a good sign.
    All in all a good deal for the $90 we paid.

    The staff was very friendly, though they didn't give me any of the usual rundowns like: checkout time or breakfast time.  And they also said my room number out loud as they handed me my key.  I thought that wasn't allowed, especially since I was a single female, and there was someone else in the lobby at the time.

    When they told me I was on the third floor, I was a little miffed.  I had been driving all day and didn't want to have to lug my bags up 2 flights of stairs.  But, it was very pretty - kind of had a european feel - and I made it up just fine.  ;-)

    The room was huge (king-size bed) and looked very clean.  The pillows felt like a jumbled mess, so I didn't sleep that great, and I heard people talking + smoking outside my room at night.  Otherwise, it was a comfortable stay and the other guests I ran into were pleasant.

    Pricey  150.00  a night.   well..  let's just say NOT...

    the outside looks like a dive...

    upon check in...  there is a smell.. ( makes you want to throw up)  I think it was food they were cooking in the office..

    the lady that checked us in was cordial enough..

    we were on the third floor ( no elevator)  so if you have heavy bags ask for the first floor.

    the room Stinks!!  smells..   wanted to go and get lysol.. I ended up spraying my body spray as an air freshner.  it helped but not really..

    the A/C  doesnt work.. it was hot in the room and muggy

    the floor doesnt really look clean... dont think they really vaccum, the walls are dirty/dingy

    the bed... OMG.. the bed.. supposedly it is there key items in the room NOT

    it was so low for one thing.. almost on the floor..

    there was this hugh dip in the bed  so when I sat on the edge it made me roll into the center.

    if you have back problems  dont stay here.....

    the bathroom is old  but works.. the door is put on backwards.    very weird...

    small area where the toilet is.. so if your a bigger person you might not be able to use the bathroom.

    it is old and dnigy with dirt in the corners.

    I look forward to going home to sleep in my own bed and utlize my own bathroom.

    if your going to santa cruz and don't have alot of monies to spend really.. then I guess this is a great place and is cleaner then the knights inn.  but still... I rather spend 50.00  and stay in a nice Hotel.. they call this place a hotel  but I think Motel 6 is better..

    We didnt plan our trip very well and tried finding a place to stay when we got into town around 1am and every place we went was closed. No one was answering their buzzer. Then we passed by the quality in next to the santa cruz dinner. The night manager there answered his buzzer! I felt bad for waking him up but thats part of his job and he was nice and got us all squared away with a room. The rooms are slightly out dated but clean and the night manager there is super nice! Ill be back.

    Reasonably priced and clean with friendly staff and comfy beds.  

    I stayed here with my father on a trip to decide whether or not I wanted to attend UCSC for graduate school.  Didn't hear any neighbors though the walls even though it was pretty full on the weekend.  

    Fridge in room was clean and worked well.  It was nice to have a microwave in the room to reheat my leftovers.  

    It was also nice that it's so close to the Santa Cruz Diner.  I walked there to eat breakfast every morning during my trip.

    My only complaint was the traffic on Ocean St on the weekend was terrible, making it difficult to turn onto Ocean St and leave the hotel.  You have to wait for someone to let you in because it's bumper-to-bumper.  

    In reference to the review before mine, I did hear police sirens twice during my 5-day stay, but the sirens were clearly driving down Ocean St and not involved with the hotel or anything so I felt safe.

    For the money, this place gets 5 stars from me.

    I've stayed at the quality inn about 4 or 5 times. This is a consistently clean, reasonably priced hotel. the wallpaper may be peeling in the corners, but you can walk around barefoot without feeling like you're going to get scabies. the bed is clean and the towels are fluffy clean. There isn't the "riff-raff" problem some of the ocean street motels have and the rooms never smell like a homeless person stayed here for 3 days once. If you're looking for a reasonably priced, clean room within easy walking distance of downtown and not all that far from the beach, the quality inn is a good bet.

    My only complaint about this place is the fact that the wi-fi is spotty at best. other than the almost no-fi, this is a good, quiet hotel.

    I knew this was a 2-star motel but from the reviews on booking sites like Expedia I expected a little better. I'm only grateful it was clean, dirty hotel rooms are disgusting.

    Pros:
    Affordable
    Within a five minute drive from the boardwalk
    Clean
    Mini fridge/microwave
    Flatscreen TV

    Cons:
    Exterior looks awful
    Loud maintenance in the early morning
    Firm check out times (felt really stressed to be out by 11am sharp - didn't like it)
    Female co-owner was rude and abrasive (her husband the next morning was nice however)
    Door to room wouldn't quite close all the way (gaping crack)
    Bathroom extremely cramped
    Shower was tiny with a cloth curtain that got water EVERYWHERE
    Sink needed to be replaced
    Heard police sirens CONSTANTLY. I would NOT stay here without my boyfriend.

    Very surprised at how much I enjoyed this place, considering how cheap it was compared to other hotels in Santa Cruz. The area is nice and the Inn is easy to find.  Staff at the front desk were friendly.  The room was very clean and spacious.  I only stayed for one night but I'm sure I'll be coming back if I need a place to sleep in Santa Cruz

    Decent enough for price but the staff was incredibly rude at check in. She was going to show me for presenting myself 20 n minutes in advance of posted check in. I'm here to check in say I.     Wife and I pulled in here late at night with the baby asleep and looking for any place with vacancy. The first two hotels off the fwy were out if kings and still wanted 250 for two queens. We passed and found this little gem.
    Staff was excellent and had a great rate for Saturday night. Includes a pleasant breakfast for a quality inn. Minimal but the basic eggs, sausage, sundries.
    Room was clean and beds comfy. Only complaint was the window in bathroom/kitchenette area did not have any curtains on it so wasn't able to black out room and sleep in.
    We would stay here again. Good value for a clean hotel in an overpriced area.

    5 stars for the price.  I have stayed in Santa Cruz many times, the hotels are dirty and expensive but that's what you get.  I was very pleased with our stay, the room and bathroom were spacious and clean.  We had a fridge and microwave and the continental breakfast was much more than I expected for such a small hotel.  breakfast had sausage egg muffins, waffles, fruit loops or cheerios, muffins, pastries, oatmeal, bananas, yogurt, toast, apple and OJ, hot tea, coffee, milk.  Also the Santa Cruz diner is on the next street over so you can walk there for great inexpensive food so that was a plus too.

    pool is extremely small but looked clean.  I would stay here again for sure.

    This motel has recently been renovated and it's really nice. The rooms are clean and all new inside. However the price is still very decent.  From the outside the building doesn't give the impression that it's that nice but with the renovations, it's a great deal for the money. The room was clean, and everything is new. A little gem of a find right in the middle of Ocean St.

    Ok, so I was expecting the worse based on some of the reviews, here is my experience and my thoughts, mind you, this is not the Hilton or Sheraton:

    PROS:
    Rooms are clean
    Microwave and fridge in the room
    HBO/SHowtime
    FREE internet
    Continental breakfast is good (fair selection)
    I believe it was the owner that helped me at check-in, very friendly and professional
    At check out, a woman helped me, she was friendly and nice
    Wake up calls are on time
    plenty of parking (some covered)
    Rooms were quiet and I was able to relax (occasionally you would hear the ambulance, but that is to be expected if you are staying about 2-3 miles away from downtown and close to the freeway exit, but still, rooms were quiet)
    Iron available
    Rooms smelled clean (no smoke smell)

    CONS:
    In the mornings, there is no one in the front desk (readily available) and you kinda have to wait (or ring the door bell) to call someone out of the office

    It was a bit overpriced in my opinion, but in comparison to other places around, it was comparable

    No elevators (personally, I didn't mind because I prefer to walk and use my legs, but it can be a challenge for others, but I am sure accommodations can be made on the first floor)

    Overall, I would definitely stay here again, hopefully the costs is much cheaper next time.

    Nice & clean rooms! Great price & location. It's worth staying a mile or two from the board walk instead of paying an arm & a leg for a nasty hotel room. I would definitely stay here again

    Nice rooms. ..yes its not the Hilton but it's good for the price you pay.  King bed is comfy they put 4 pillows . Our room was clean.  The flat screen TV is on the wall but in other rooms it may be on the dresser but it's a nice size and clear picture  the continental breakfast was delicious.  Loved the waffles. And sausage.  Free wifi. The hot water didn't seem to run out the times we took showers. They also have pancakes and eggs but I didn't eat that.  This is a nice spot..not far for a drive to the boardwalk. The hotel's closer to the beach and boardwalk are 2x the cost just because they are closer overall I would stay here again:) it's been a good experience.

    Great room, updated...nothing like the pictures online, really nice and clean.
    Got the 2 queen bedroom. Lots of space for me and my family, which was really nice, didn't fell cramped in. Beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was good.
    Great location,  walking distance to fast food restaurants and really easy drive to the boardwalk.

    The customer service rep at the counter was not friendly, which would be fine with me if it wasn't for the fact that this place nickels and dimes you. First of all, my rate was changed which had never happened to me in the past and then they add fees for services that are free in other hotels. They might get a few more dollars upfront, but they have lost my business forever as I will not stay here next time I stay in SC.

    This chip motel take advantage of parents of students that they do not have a choice.
    I paid $179 for rundown place that anywhere it may not be worth more then $39.
    Worse place I stayed in my life.
    Do not recumbent. Better to sleep in your care.

    I know the Quality Inn is not the high end of hotels to choose from.  But I usually really enjoy them.  This one just seemed, slightly below par.
    Pros:
    Good location, walking distance to downtown, easy driving distance to the boardwalk.
    Free breakfast in the morning
    Great staff

    Cons
    The breakfast was practically all gone when we got there (at 9, so it wasn't super late).
    The pillows in our room were AWFUL.  Didn't get much sleep at all.
    The fridge was missing the top rubber making the freezer constantly melt/drip into the fridge and the fear that nothing was actually being kept cold.
    Construction happening right outside your room.

    BUYER BEWARE! I booked this room with a (male) work colleague through Priceline. We were both expecting accommodations for two adults like always (2 beds). Upon arrival we were informed that a SINGLE king size bed would accommodate both of us for the week. Really?
    I am a big guy, and my colleague even bigger. I explained to the guy at the front desk and the owner that we book our trips through Priceline regularly and we have never been asked to share a bed. I called Priceline to see what they could do, and they said "technically one king size bed does accommodate two adults". REALLY? We tried to work something out with the owner and there were plenty of vacant rooms, but he would not budge, saying "for an additional $25 a night, I will roll a cot into the room". Ughh!
    Determined not to give LOW Quality Inn any more of our money, I told the owner what he could do with his cot. My colleague and I chipped in on a sleeping bag and padded mat and he slept on the floor for the whole week.
     The way I see it, Quality inn Santa Cruz and Priceline ripped us off. We are done with both of them. Not to mention that this motel is 2 stars at best. It looks like a one star from the outside, even though the front desk guy kept insisting that it was 4 1/2 stars. To be fair the rooms were clean with refrigerator and microwave.
    I would not recommend this hotel with so many other better hotels in the area.

    Very clean. Family that runs it is very helpful and accommodating. Great price for Santa Cruz. Central location. Free wifi and parking, both difficult to obtain in Santa Cruz. Tip:right across the street from greatest ice cream shop.

    Gets 5 stars because:We stayed a few nights for our anniversary. First night an overhead light from another property shined thru and made it difficult to rest. My husband told the office and was immediately brought to the maintenance room and we were able to put up and create a makeshift curtain. It's that kind of personalized, service that will keep us coming back.
