my fiancee took me here for our 2 year anniversary and we were very pleased with the room, the amneties and especially the outdoor jacuzzi. the weather was perfect and the view overlooked the ocean, the beachfront and the boardwalk! we booked the executive suite and it had everything..even a mini kitchen!

This Inn is great.  The view is wonderful.  The grounds are immaculate. The free breakfast is yummy.  Fresh muffins!  The staff was very caring and informative.  Definately recommend , nice and romantic.

somehow, having a hot tub in our room did not make it completely cheesy and trashy like i had imagined. the room was huge and the water pressure in the shower still lingers in my dreams. parking was easy, and the guy at the front desk was really nice. (oh, if you plan on ordering pizza--or any kind of food for that matter--make sure to call the front desk for suggestions. my hubby and i made the mistake of just calling domino's and then got scolded for not asking for help.) you can hear seals from your room, which can be really awesome or completely annoying depending on your love (or lack thereof) for marine mammals and barking sounds. i thought it was awesome.

the description and pictures of the hotel make it seem like it's really secluded and tucked away somewhere on a remote cliff; it is not. it is on a pretty major street and next to a much larger hotel. despite that, when on hotel grounds, you do feel rather tucked away.

what about the hot tub, you ask? well, it was tucked away in the corner of the room and looked like a huge bath tub on a platform with mirrored walls---i know, right? CLASSY. it was actually really nice until we found out that "cleaning mode" basically meant: air dry mode. yeah, the hot tub doesn't fill up with water and run a thorough self-clean cycle like we thought, instead, it just kind of blows air around. i'm hoping that the hotel cleaning staff cleans those tubs. but bring some bleach with you just to be safe.

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and it was off the hook!!  We aren't rich folk and this seemed over the top!!  Even some of my clients have heard about it and said it was amazing... and that is what got me excited!!!  'Cause really.. boys usually know nothing about this kinda thing.  Our view was impeccable!!  The ocean and sand and sound of the waves!!  So romantic, and special.  The room wasn't 5 stars but it had everything we needed.  Their happy hour was great!!  Simple cheeses paired with crackers and a Chardonnay and Merlot ... very cool!!  And there is several patios you can go and sit at and watch the beach dwellers and waves and the awe evoking sunset!!!  Just breath taking!!  One evening I took some Champagne out there and watched 2 dudes play with their boomerang.  haha... They also have a complimentary continental breakfast.... not too shabby!!  We have been to some B&Bs and this was the better of breakfasts.  OJ, hot choc, coffee, tea, muffins,  bagels with cream cheese, fruit, toast etc... basic but perfect.  And the service!!  WOW!!  The young man who helped us was sooo chivalrous, funny, helpful, charming... just wonderful!  He made our weekend just that much better with his sense of humor, smiles and effortless successes in assisting us.
We are definitely coming back, staying for longer and taking "his"  advice and booking a suite.

The first time my then boyfriend/now husband went away for the weekend we stayed at the Sea & Sand Inn in Santa Cruz.  It was perfect.  We were in that infatuation-falling in love stage so perhaps anywhere would have been a great place to stay...but I highly recommend staying here next time you want a romantic weekend away.

We stayed in a huge room with a jacuzzi, and although it wasn't cheap, the place was totally worth it.  It's an adorable yellow place up on the cliffs, with a gorgeous lawn area with chairs for checking out the view and relaxing.  There was a wine & cheese hour in the lobby in the early evening (as every good inn should have!) and the guy who worked there was really nice and welcoming.

There's a real mom and pop vibe to this place, and it was so much cuter than the big boring hotel next door.  Also, it right next to the dock and the Boardwalk.  Downtown was a bit of a trek but by no means a journey.

Go fall in love here.  I can't wait to go back!

My boyfriend and I went here last year for our 4 year anniversary. we wanted some place close the beach... We called in and got our reservation just a little late so we didn't have our choice of rooms. But, we still had our room right above the ocean where we could overlook the boardwalk and obviously the ocean ALL NIGHT. I loved it...

I will for sure be going back to this place and next time I am going to try out the room with the private jacuzzi on deck. Will update! :)

I've stayed at the Sea and Sand Inn many times ever since I was a kid.   I've always enjoyed the great location and property.   However, I tried to book a room and Jose at the front desk made me change my mind.  I can't begin to tell you how rude he was over the phone.  I understand he was busy due to occupancy but his tone/professionalism is at motel status.  The hotel (Motel) lost my business from here on out!  I expect to be treated w/ respect as a repeat guest.  This not so gentlemen put me on hold while booking a room and said "I have to go, I have other guests," and hung up on me!!! I WILL NEVER BOOK again through this hotel due to JOSE!  The best part was talking to cheryl (sp) explaining to me his cover-up.  This hotel needs better customer service or else others like me will never come back.

I hesitate even writing a review, as right now I feel like I got in on a really good secret I don't want to spoil. I'm giving the Sea & Sand Inn a 5 star review not because it is a 5-star hotel, but because it is one of those rare places where you get more than you paid for. My husband and I traveled there off season (Thanksgiving weekend) so the prices were very reasonable. However, coming from Colorado the weather in Cali. is never bad and seasonal is relative. We had one night in Santa Cruz and really wanted to stay in a hotel on the beach. Problem is, those places are usually either way too expensive or end up not on the beach at all. We were overwhelmingly excited when we realized our room overlooked the ocean and we fell asleep listening to seals and waves crashing.
The room and bathroom were basic, but clean and even somewhat charming. They had a minimal, but good breakfast available in the morning. The staff was very kind. The views from all the rooms are stunning (pier, bay and the town). Can't wait to return next time we are in the area.

We are on a roadtrip from Sacramento... and this place was the BEST FIND. Gorgeous view, 70 per person... are you kidding? The continental breakfast included muffins and bagels and fruit, coffee, tea etc. Running in this area is like a vacation in itself. Room is quaint and the bathroom is actually quite nice. Perfect for a couples get away, or just for a night NOT at a motel. VERY clean and the staff was more than helpful!

My husband and I decided to visit Santa Cruz for the first time and we turned to YELP for reviews for a nice budget friendly stay. We stayed Feb.15-18 and got the suite with fireplace and jacuzzi tub and fridge for around $150 per night. We were amazed by how close it was to the water and even more amazed at how cute the rooms were. I couldn't have asked for more! There were chocolates and a few roses in the room which gave it a nice personalized touch. The staff is awesome and eager to help. Parking was excellent and there was continental breakfast every morning as well as wine and cheese in the evening! Again...AMAZING!

I wasn't expecting much after driving by and seeing it from the street.  Fortunately, I was totally wrong.  Our room was nice, even if a little tight. The room seemed a little worn but was still in decent shape and clean. We could hear the neighbor's TV but couldn't tell if it was because of thin walls or if they just really had it cranked up.
The view was incredible. We were on the 2nd floor and could see the boardwalk, the beach, the wharf, and plenty of surfers.  The sound of the ocean lulled us to sleep.
We took advantage of the continental breakfast while sitting out in the garden. That was very peaceful.  Because of the view and the extras I would have expected this to be much more expensive than it was.

Awesome place ruined by rude customer service.  We have been coming here for a couple years and actually don't want much attention from hotel staff. But eye contact and a smile would be awesome!  The staff seemed seriously "put out" when we checked in, moved our car, and checked out over the two days we were there. They didn't ask about our stay. We mentioned the bad customer service on the way out trying to give them a chance to redeem themselves, but they could not care less.  Cecile changed the topic and blamed the guys Jose and Deter who were working earlier this weekend.  We let them know that we had treasured coming here for years, but that we wouldn't come back in the future and Cecile literally shrugged her shoulders. She didn't say sorry or try in any way to save the deal. So sad that our SC spot is no longer!!!

This is the 3rd place in santa cruz that I've written about and I give it 4.5 stars.  The rowdy, drunken loud crowd typically banging on doors at 1 AM are out in full swing on a weekend night.  It's happenned to us several times at all the inns in Santa Cruz with exterior cooridoors.  At least this place has a gate and 24 hour lobby staff so I feel like there's someone to call if it happens.   Other than that, the views, the cleanliness, the views, the location, the views :-), gorgeous!  Breakfast is good, nothing out of the ordinary.  I love the common areas.  Well worth the money.

My girlfriend and I spent the weekend here to get away. We reserved the nicest room there, which was actually a nice suite. For the most part I would have to say our stay was pretty pleasant; however the biggest issue we had was a big miss communication on behalf of the staff for insufficient parking. This was not the biggest problem; the front desk manager was very rude and unprofessional. Instead of contacting us, she locked us out of our room and placed a note on our door and vehicles for the public and others to read. We will never stay in this hotel again. Perhaps if there was at least an attempt to compensate us, we would consider it. Be aware of a manager who can be rude and come close to ruining your weekend. For me personally good customer service is number one, especially when you happen to be the highest paying customer.

    the CONS
-check in/front desk werent that nice. dont get me wrong, they werent mean or rude but there wasnt a 'welcoming' feel... not much of a smile, and just not friendly. i work in customer service and realize its not the greatest job but i put a smile on and try to make people feel welcomed... i dont think im asking for too much.
-check out is too early. breakfast ends at 10... check out is 11... wish it was noon so we could enjoy our time as well as take our time instead of rushing to get out.
    -fire place/heat wasnt warm enough.
-paying 200+ a night id like a warm breakfast... just my opinion.

    the PROS
    -maid service were very friendly.
-room was beautiful. we were in 207. executive king suite. hot tub was wonderful and relaxing...
-view. you cant beat the view.

would i stay again? maybe if the service improved a bit and prices were a little more reasonable.

    What a great place.
They've got the killer location and view.  You can't beat it.  It's more of a motel architecture:  Two stories, all front to a public walkway.  And that walkway is only feet from the cliff with views of the Muni Pier, the Boardwalk and Monterrey Bay.

They must have had a recent remodel, all the appointments seemed in tip-top shape.  The colors were tasteful and subdued, and the King Deluxe room was quite spacious.   That spa tub was a trip, though.  It's not in the bathroom, it's sort of in the corner of the living space/bedroom!

Continental breakfast and evening wine and cheese service, while nothing spectacular, are nice touches.

The staff were all super friendly, too.

We were there way off-season, so it was uncrowded, very quiet, and quite reasonably priced.  Expect dramatically higher in-season prices, as that's probably what allows them to stay open in the winter with only six rented rooms in the mid-week.

My husband and I will stay at this place every time we decide to spend the night in Santa Cruz!! The view was amazing!!! The room was very clean, and the jacuzzi was so relaxing!!! The whole experience there was perfect!!! The staff there was very friendly!!! My husband and I woke up late so we almost missed the continental breakfast, but they left it up for us to make sure we got our breakfast!!! The only thing that wasn't so great was their WiFi was down, we rely a lot on WiFi so that put a little damper on some things, but it definitely would not keep us from going back, I would recommend anyone staying in Santa Cruz to stay there!!!

We have been going to the Sea & Sand for 15 years.  It is a very small motel, perched on the cliff, overlooking the beach, the Boardwalk, and the wharf.  The outdoor areas are quite lovely, lots of nice seating.  There is a commons room that can be used any time of the day, but is quite busy for breakfast where fresh muffins and fruit is served with hot coffee or tea.

The rooms are very, very small.  There is hardly room to turn around in some of the rooms.  The furniture is too big for the rooms. Bathrooms are very small, with showers, not tubs, one person at a time.

The overall experience has always been nice, and I love being able to walk to the wharf and Boardwalk from the motel.  Be sure to plan to stay more than one night on weekends.

Wow....what an amazing find! After a long day at work, I came here, turned on the fireplace and laid in the jacuzzi, looked through the window out to the balcony windows to the amazing ocean view, sipping the complementary hot cocoa and listening to the waves crashing. I couldn't have been happier with the room and the genuine service.  We stayed in room 207 with a great walk-in rate. Fully enjoyed my stay and will definitely return.

Ok so we booked to stay 3 nights.  Both while booking and confirming our room the staff is...how to put this...poopy.  They say all the right things but you get the impression they actually loath you.

I called several years back to book and they were so snippy and passive aggressive that I booked somewhere else.  I went to school in SC and have always wanted to stay so I am biting the bullet and booking anyway.

I just don't get why the phone and desk people find guests so irritating EVERY TIME.  Get a job you love cuz this aint it my friend.  As a side...the hotel is beautiful and perfectly located!  I will likely up my rating after we return.

I was searching high and low for a nice hotel/motel with an ocean view. My girlfriend was coming to visit and I wanted us to have some privacy from my current shared living situation while she staying in SC for a weekend.

So I ran around looking at different places. I found a ton of crappy ones in bad areas. I literally checked out about 7 of them personally (inspecting the rooms, etc). Some of them were not bad, but were either not right on the ocean or too pricey.

Sea and Sand was perfect. Just pretencious enough to impress my girlfriend with an ocean view, but not so ritzy it was gonna send me to the poor house.

I booked a nice room for us, and was upgraded *gratis* to a deluxe suite because they had it open. How awesome is that?

The room was great: huge in room hot tub, big screen tv...

But the most amazing part was the full ocean view. It's really an incredible location, right above cowbell beach cliffs. The staff was young, but very helpful.

I would recommend this place for anyone looking to get away for a private weekend with their partner. I didn't personally see this as a family type of place, but more of a bed and breakfast.

PS: their website sucks, don't let it fool you.

Great location and views. I would love to stay upstairs next time just for a little less noise. It is right on the strip uphill 1/2 mile from the boardwalk. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The snacks and breakfast are nice. The only thing that would make it nicer is stairs to the sand and a pool :) Overall a good experience and I would stay again. Very relaxing all ocean view rooms.

Stayed here during Spring (Easter) break. What a wonderful find! The staff was very nice. I booked the Grand Deluxe King room w/ Spa for $209 per night, and the room was spacious! Very large bathroom with jacuzzi, large shower, double sinks. There was a small kitchenette w/ sink, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and nice plates/cups/glassware/silverware. A large flat-screen TV w/ a dvd player. There was a fireplace in the room. The room had a wide balcony with comfortable seating w/ ottomans, and it overlooked the bay. The view was so beautiful. Included in the stay was a continental breakfast that was very good (loved the apple scones. it looked like a scone but still not sure. very good though).

The only negatives: customer parking is limited so make sure you drive only one car to the hotel. Also, you do have an ocean view from every room, but you have to walk one block down hill to get access to the beach (but don't worry, it only took 5 minutes).

All in all, the Sea & Sand Inn was worth every penny. I will definitely be reserving a room again.

I was looking to vacation in Santa Cruz, and I called up one of my friends who lives down here and asked if he knew of any good hotels. He asked around and sent me towards this place. I went to their website and it looked good, came to Yelp and saw good reviews, so I booked a room for two nights and drove down.

Surprise, surprise - I get here and it turned out I'd booked for the wrong week! I was afraid I was going to have to drive all the way home and then come back, but the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating and hooked me up with a room, though I'd have to change rooms, which I didn't mind. I was so happy that I got to stay! The rooms were amazing, the view was fanastic, and the staff is nonjudgmental and very friendly. Would definitely stay here again!

The Sea And Sand Inn will always hold a very special place in my heart. I stayed here for my wedding weekend for the first time, I'd been wanting to stay here for a long time, and the wedding weekend was the perfect occasion. Guests chose from king/double queen rooms and we used the Cottage Suite for the Bridal Suite/Wedding Night Suite. The service was excellent and the amenities were better than expected, especially for the price and because we were there during off season. I def recommend the Cottage Suite and look forward to visiting in future years on our wedding weekend anniversary.

What a beautiful, cozy lil hotel.  My parents were in town a month or so ago and we stayed here.  Both of my parents and I loved it.

Sea & Sand offers the best views of Santa Cruz and the Boardwalk.  They have a pathway down to the beach and lil terraces you can lay out on and relax.  We did that a lot, especially during cookie and lemonade hour.

The staff was gracious and the rooms were cute and clean.  We got lucky with 'off-season' pricing but it's still a lil pricey... but worth it!  We were only going to stay one night but my parents liked it so much, we extended to a 2nd night. :)

    See ya there!

No, Seriously, AMAZING.  We got their most expensive room and it was WORTH IT.

The Inn itself sits on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the beach, the pier and the boardwalk.  They boast that every room has an ocean view and ours was nothing to complain about.

We literally had a suite, almost a condo or time share!  It was a mini kitchen (microwave, toaster, coffee maker, fridge, cookie jar(!) and blender (!!!) that shared a room with the living room (plush couch, FLAT SCREEN TV, fireplace, chairs & tables).  From the living area you make your way into the bedroom with the king sized bed, ANOTHER flat screen TV, and bathroom with double sinks and a standing shower.

No tub, but Wait!  Walk outside to the patio (both the living room and bedroom had sliding glass doors that lead there) and there's lounge chairs and regular chairs and a GIANT FOUR PERSON HOT TUB, preheated and ready for bubbling enjoyment.

Everything in the room was modern, clean and spacious.  I could live here forever.

No, really.  I would not mind if this was my studio apartment for the next couple years.

Yes, ladies and gents it was pricey to stay here ($239/night!!!) but it's sooo worth it.  I'm glad I got to experience this room & location because given the chance, I would definitely stay again.

Staff was very helpful and pleasant.  Free breakfast in the mornings from 7-10AM with delicious fresh scones, bagels, fruit salad, hard boiled eggs oh my!  Wine tasting & cheese @ 5PM during the winter season.  Personally assigned parking space.  Beautiful views.  Beautiful everything.

This was better than any hotel I could have stayed at.  I felt like I was staying in a mini palace!

I stayed here two years ago to celebrate my 2 year anniversary with my boyfriend. It was amazing; pricey, but amazing! We seriously contemplated staying another night but that might have put us in debt.

We stayed in the Grand Luxury King Spa. It was beyond huge. The fireplace was my favorite but the spa tub was a close second.

The staff was all very helpful and cheerful. They serve cookies and milk and the free breakfast was pretty cool. It's like eating in your kitchen at home because the kitchen it right there. It really looks like a house.

All of the views are so gorgeous and I wish I could go again.

I hadn't been back to Santa Cruz since graduating from UCSC in 2008 and I was looking to spend a few days there to relax and do some writing, so I stayed at Sea & Sand for three nights back in November (2011). I lived around West Cliff for a year, and my girlfriend at the time always remarked on this place since it seemed like a nice little "getaway" motel not far from the Boardwalk. So why not?

Not needing anything fancy I booked one of the basic rooms, which is just that. A bed, a shower, a TV, and a desk to do some work. What they give you is nice enough, but it didn't feel as nice as what you see on their website. The draw is that even with one of their simple rooms you get a nice view of the bay right outside your window. If there's one thing Sea & Sand has it's the location. Waking up and seeing the sun coming up over the bay is AWESOME.

The people here were friendly enough. I arrived a bit earlier than the 3PM check-in time hoping to unload my relatively heavy bag, but no-go on the room. Well, at least they held on to my stuff. For the most part the attitude I got was "business as usual". Nothing overt, just standard.

But hey, free breakfast. That's a plus.

Although I don't think I'll be taking anymore extended trips to Santa Cruz any time soon, I'd probably recommend Sea & Sand over most of the typical chain locations over on Ocean Street. You're probably paying more at S&S for the same type of room and service (at least when referring to a basic room), but at least you're closer to the beach and the Boardwalk, and it's a nice enough walk to get to downtown Santa Cruz. Definitely a nicer location than most, so if that's what you're looking for, you'll probably like this place a lot.

I'd like to start off by sharing that the weekend began extremely peaceful .... the room was clean with a beautiful view of the ocean/beach/pier/boardwalk including tranquil sounds of waves crashing on the shore.  Both the private jacuzzi and chaise lounges on the private patio were a major plus as well.  Please keep in mind we made the best of this wonderful weekend in spite of the ignorance and lack of respect that we had to deal with over a "ONE parking spot". The "cottage" that was rented which was more like a duplex had two parking spaces within a carport which were empty at the time of check in. The men at the front desk advised us to park in the carport by specifically saying that "the parking spots (plural not singular) are yours to use."  So what did we do.... we parked in the spots.   Later that evening we were approached by our next door neighbors (staying in the other part of the duplex, mind you a less expensive room compared to the one we rented) and said that the person at the front desk instructed them to ask us to move one our cars. In my mind I was thinking "why would an employee of any establishment ask another parton to communicate on their behalf." Therefore I called the front desk to verify, which resulted in them advising me that when speaking to our neighbors they were advised to either park on the street, in an alternate location or in the handicap spot on-site. I completely disagreed with the idea that anyone could park in the handicap without a placard, however was assured that since the parking lot was private property that no citation (if caught) would be issued. After confirming this information with the person at the front desk we then shared this information with our neighbors.  Please keep in mind at this time WE  were never asked to move our car.... EVEN after calling the front desk ourselves. Now one thing I cannot stand is when a manager does not take the time to train their staff and would rather insult and disrespect their customer(s) for not knowing THEIR policy "that if you came in more than one car because the hotel only has 22 rooms and 22 parking spots that you have to find alternative parking."  I'm sorry, that's your responsbility "FRONT DESK MANAGER" to train your team and if the person at the front desk does not know the process or have the correct answer then YOU SHOULD take the time AND your nasty attitude to focus your energy on them instead of taking your attittude out on the customer.  (ESPECIALLY WITHOUT even apologizing for your behavior when noted by myself.) Ultimately the FRONT DESK MANAGER (whom quite frankly exhibited less tact and professionalism than one should at her level) ruined the experience of the inn because she was not only rude, but took it upon herself and her FRONT DESK MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES (although training her staff properly must not be included in those responsbilities) to post two notes (one on the outside our door for all to see as well as a second note taped to the windshield of my car indicating that we need to move one our cars. PLEASE ALSO NOTE that this individual deactived our room key as well so that she was rest assured that we would have to come and talk to her.  While in the office she exhibited MAJOR attitude AND disregarded the fact that we were staying in the most expensive option in the INN.  Let me end this rant and say that if it weren't for the vibe and awesome company (a lot handsome) that dealing with her rude and unprofessional self alone could have caused us to check out and take our busine$$ elsewhere ........... Just keep in mind if you have more than one car or would like to have parking for your guests (whether it be your grandparents, parents, children, friends) that this is not the place to stay.

Definitely worth the kinda hefty price tag, the view is amazing. My bf took me here for my birthday, the room was very nice and clean. It's a little outdated but not by much. Flat screen, nice fireplace, big nice comfy bed, and the spacious two person jacuzzi tub. The tub has a neon changing light which gives you the "ohs and awws". The balcony opens up with two double doors and let me tell you, it's such a wonderful experience. Listening to the ocean waves along the beach and seeing your fire place in action gives you such peace. The weather was so nice making it even better. The continental breakfast was nice as well, more than I expected. They give you complimentary taffy in your room, and also have a pair of binoculars to borrow to see more out to the ocean and boardwalk. This was the relaxing stay I needed! I will be coming back in the near future for sure!

View is great and location looks well maintained. Unfortunately I woke up having been bitten by some sort of insect. It was no mosquito. Later I saw insect bits floating in the morning coffee. Until they can keep their hotel free of pests, I can not recommend this spot.

This is the nicest quiet seaside hotel in the Santa Cruz area. I recently found myself revisiting Santa Cruz after having lived there for several years and been away for several more, and through experiences of knowing people who work at various hotels and having guests stay at different places while visiting me, I knew of many hotels I would never stay in and one that I would, and this was it. I love the view, the garden, and the relative peace and quiet. This is not a showy beach hotel, but a welcoming place to rest and relax. The front desk and housekeeping staff are helpful, and like all good middle-class American hotel goers, I enjoyed availing myself of the free wine and cheese in the evening and muffins in the morning. Do be aware that the showers in some of the rooms are a bit small and very cramped if you yourself are not small, and be prepared to smoosh about one (harmless but sometimes upsetting) spider per day in your room, at least during the rainy season (this is normal for the area, so I really can't complain). Otherwise, the rooms are very clean and comfortable and there's decent wifi access, so all will be right with the world as you listen to the ocean and sea life and watch the fog and surfers from your window, patio or the garden.

My fiance and I have stayed at this hotel numerous times and have been thrilled with the experience every time! We live right over the hill and come here for as many 1 or 2 night getaways as we can because it feels like we are thousands of miles away from home.

The ambiance is beautiful in all of the rooms.  The rooms are all so clean, come equipped with up to date TV's, fireplaces in the deluxe rooms, beautiful bathrooms, and of course the spectacular view!

Customer service is outstanding and the staff really know how to make their guests feel welcome.  They have complimentary wine and cheese from 5-7 pm from October through March(?) I believe... you'd have to double check dates.

Walking distance to the Wharf with lots of shopping and dining and Sea and Sand also offers complimentary breakfast each morning. It truly is a beautiful escape.  To be completely honest, Sea and Sand is just as good as Seascape and Dream Inn if not better! The price is reasonable and the quality is competitive.  People may say otherwise about price because yes, there are cheaper places nearby BUT they are no where NEAR the quality of this hotel! I'm talking leaps and bounds above the others. Trust me, it is WORTH the extra few dollars to stay here. You will NOT be disappointed!

This place was awesome. We stayed in a room with a jacuzzi on the deck, fireplace, a kitchen area, and a living room. The room was clean and had everything you needed. They has a decent continental breakfast and you could even rent DVDs from the front desk. The front desk people actually walked us around to show us our different room options and were very friendly. Only downside was no room service and the huge raccoon hanging out on our deck. Other than that...would definitely recommend!

This was by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Let me start off by saying we got there at around 2am after our senior prom so the gentleman at the front desk didn't even let us read the "rules" he just gave us a brief overview. We get to the room and it was literally a room with 2 beds and a table and a tiny bathroom. There was no place to put any of our stuff. The bathroom was tiny. There was no air conditioning (which is ridiculous because when do you stay by the beach; during summer!) my friends and I brought back some empty alcohol bottles from the beach (because it's senior weekend, yes we shouldn't have had them under age but we did have an older friend with us) the maids saw that we had the bottles and long story short the manager came and had us sign a waver saying that we wouldn't bring alcohol in the room. The manager continues to tell us that since we are under 21 we are not allowed to have people in the room at all times, which is bullshit because it never said anywhere that it was a rule. They searched our room which I'm pretty sure is ILLEGAL. We left the hotel for a few hours and we were locked out of our room. Come to find out they were kicking us out because we had empty alcohol bottles. The customer service SUCKED. The view is pretty. The room SUCKED. I will NEVER go back to this hotel or should I say MOTEL because that's what it basically was. I do not recommend staying here.

We stayed here over Christmas and can't recommend it enough. Not only was the room (Luxury King Spa #206) beautifully appointed, but it also smelled good. You know how most hotel rooms smell, well, like a hotel room? Not this one! You walk in and get a faint hint of vanilla or cookies or something really delicious. It's not overpowering but you notice it. Thirty seconds later, you forget it's there until the next time you walk in the room. I'm sensitive to perfumes, so overpowering scents are a problem. This was the opposite. Mmm....goood!

The bed was comfortable, carpet clean, bathroom spotless. The fireplace made the room almost too warm so we had to crack the glass door so we could maintain the ambiance (it was Christmas, people!). The jacuzzi tub is the two-person sort and is very spacious for your average-sized bodies. We're no delicate flowers but we both fit comfortably. The jets were okay but not super powerful. Waddya gonna do? The window in front of the tub ostensibly allows someone to have a view of the ocean, but you're really too low for it to work. A for effort, though!

The little kitchenette featured a mini fridge, real cutlery and dishes, a nice selection of coffee & tea, and some other appliance we didn't use (toaster? blender?). I'm pretty sure there was a microwave too, but my husband thinks microwaved stuff tastes weird (I know, right?) so we didn't use it. The balcony has two nice chairs to enjoy sundowners, though it was too cold during our stay. Gorgeous view of Monterey Bay & the wharf (see the panorama I posted). The staff were wonderful young people. Very friendly and helpful, eager to please.

OOH! Almost forgot the goodies. Every night in the winter, they offer a 'happy hour' of sorts:  a free glass of wine or sparkling cider and cheese & crackers. I think they also have a summer version but don't know what that's about. The wine was a very nice chardonnay, and I don't even really care for chardonnay! Delicious cheeses too, not just Velveeta. The morning buffet is a step up from basic: hard boiled eggs, two muffins, scones, oatmeal, bagels & cream cheese, coffee & OJ. Perfectly acceptable. The best part of it though was that they left food out till 10! Truly civilized, especially for those of us on vakay.

I haven't seen the other rooms, but from the photos, I'd really recommend the higher end rooms. They're not much more and soo worth it. If they hadn't already been booked when we reserved in JULY(!!!), we would have taken one of even better rooms, but this was the next best they had for our timing. And we loved it!

Enjoyed our stay in the sea and sand inn. We booked a suite with a jacuzzi tub in the  living room. The hotel is set on the cliffs above the beach and bay.  The view was spectacular, we could see the pier and amusement park from our big picture windows.  This hotel has continental breakfast. Try the scones, they are freshly baked and delicious.  Fast and free wifi. Room was clean and nicely appointed. I must comment on the shower. Wow what water pressure! One of the great showers of the 21st century! Remember the scene in the original planet of the apes movie when Charlton Heston gets pinned against the wall of his cage by a gorilla with a high pressure water hose while screaming "its a madhouse"? Like that.. Really. No kidding. Highly recommend...

Wow!  The room was spacious and clean, and the staff were courteous and friendly.  The grounds were beautiful and well maintained, and the Inn was quiet--all we heard were the waves and the barking seals.  Admittedly, we didn't watch TV, so I can't comment on the quality, etc., but we were at the ocean, so TV wasn't a factor.  The bathroom [shower and toilet] was small, but not overly so, and the vanity area was well lit and comfortable for a family of four.

The room did get a bit stuffy during the night [as the window doesn't open all the way, for security reasons], so I hooked up the fan that I found in the closet and everyone slept soundly.  By the morning, everyone had pulled up the blanket and had burrowed down into the comfortable mattress.

The reason that I'm so impressed with this Inn is because we had stayed next door at the Dream Inn on multiple occasions and had never even thought about this Inn, but when the Dream Inn was booked, I found this site online and thought we'd give it a try.  I will never go back to the Dream Inn.  For the price and the included amenities, I'd be foolish.  WiFi was free and available in every room; continental breakfast included [and the food was plentiful and delicious]; afternoon snacks included and wine/cheese, too.  Parking was included in the price and even with all of these extras, we were still well within our budget.

We sat out at one of the many tables and simply enjoyed the crashing waves, kids learning to surf and the beautiful morning sun, while enjoying a toasted bagel, orange juice and fresh fruit compote.  The warm cookies in the afternoon were a welcome treat and my family enjoyed the fresh lemonade.  The view from the grounds is blue sky, white clouds and miles and miles of ocean.  It was quite a sight and I would definitely recommend this Inn.  In fact, the toughest sell was my mother [who is truly a five star hotel lady], but she, too, was impressed and took a card from the front desk, stating that she would be coming back for a visit.  Now that's a recommendation!

It's hard to say anything negative about this place.  Taylor at the front desk is awesome!  She is so sweet and helpful.  The location is amazing, a couple blocks from the wharf and Boardwalk.  Every room is facing the ocean/beach.  Every morning breakfast is served. Afternoon is snacks (fresh baked cookies) and the evening wine and cheese.  The only thing that I wasn't happy about during my stay was that there is no AC in the rooms.  Even though the temps were only in the 60's it was humid and sticky.  An AC would have made things much more comfortable.

Payin' for location, let's not kid around. I've stayed at the Dream Inn and here, and dollar for dollar I think they're actually equal. This hotel had no communal pool or hot tub, which I think would make it actually better than the Dream. Bonus to this location is an even shorter walk to the stairs for Cowell's, and also walking distance to Steamer Lane. I surf, you see, so proximity to the surf spots was key to my decision to book a room. I was there mid-week in the off season, so my room was priced much lower than the scary summer rates. Is this inn worth it for $150?
Would I be appalled to spend much over that? Pretty much. I'd be willing to shell out for my own hot tub room or balcony, yes, but the summer prices here are INSANE.
My room- an Accessible King, had its own fireplace (which turns on when you turn up the heat in the room, cute little system) and felt secluded. No bathtub in the room, but a king bed that was comfortable and serviceable. Wish they'd include extra blankets in the room so I could have sat outside at the little table and chair offered on my makeshift "balcony" area on the walkway. The room itself was quite dated. It's fine, it's serviceable, it's just not luxurious or exemplary. I found a foreign hair on my sheets when I pulled the covers back, so cleanliness could use some improvement. It's not QUITE drab or shabby, just dated and they obviously book so solidly they don't need to improve to maintain a customer base.
The customer service (mind you, midweek winter) was excellent. Front desk offered to show me room options other than what I'd booked, should I wish to alter my room. Awesome. Super nice, super friendly, super informative.
As I said, I'd return for the off season prices based on the location, and might splurge a little to get a room with a hot tub. If you're looking for budget hotel at exorbitant pricing, this is the place for you. If you want more bang for your buck, um, don't go to Santa Cruz in the summer and expect reasonable prices near the water.

We ended up needing to find a room on very short notice. After making our way to Santa Cruz and calling hotels, motels and inns on the way Sea and Sand Inn was the first vacancy we could find.

We were pleasantly surprised at the beautiful view of the Boardwalk and beaches. Our room was a good size and the bathroom was quite large. Everything was updated and very clean. Our private patio was a huge bonus. The staff were very professional and prompt. It is located within walking distance to pretty much anything you might want to do.

Overall we were very happy with where we ended up and would definitely book with them again.

I cannot say enough about how wonderful the Sea & Sand is! Never have I stayed in such a beautiful room. My fiance and I came here for a little get away in Feb. and I booked the room having no plans of going anywhere else. ;) So I splurged on the price and got us the Deluxe King for two nights.

Check in was easy and hassle free. Walking into the room was amazing! They covered everything you could need. There was a fireplace, table and chairs, a big comfortable easy chair, two outside chairs and ottomans on the balcony, lots of tea, bath salts for the tub and even a little dish of salt water taffy from Marini's Candies. It was the little details that did it for me. The spa bathtub was the best thing about it for me. I think I took 4 baths on my trip and my honey and I both fit in for a soak, which is no easy feat being that he is 6'7!

I cannot wait to come back someday for another mini vacation from the horrid central valley. I highly recommend Sea & Sand Inn for anyone looking for a romantic experience with a loved one. Make sure you set the alarm and catch the sunrise! I don't think anywhere else in Santa Cruz can out due that view.

my godson and his wife stayed here last year and highly recommended it, so when we were looking for a place to stay along the coast, i remembered sea and sand.

we spent two nights and enjoyed it thoroughly. the sound of the waves coming through the open windows was divine. the high pitched screams echoing from the boardwalk wasn't so divine, but represented funtimes.

the shower was great - large in size - with great towels and amenities. there were sufficient outlets for our laptop and various chargers - always a plus. bed was very comfortable and pillows were good. windows opened nicely in the room and in the bathroom. and...free wifi!

sitting on the bluff overlooking the beach is absolutely heavenly. the grounds with well kept lawns and beautiful flower beds was therapeutic, even if you weren't looking for any. tables and chairs set about are wonderful if you want to sit out and enjoy the beauty of the scenery, a glass of wine, cup of coffee, mcdonalds lunch, whatever pleases the soul.

continental breakfast was decent: coffee service, assorted bagels w/toppings, boiled eggs, yogurt and small containers of granola for add-in, assorted scones (scrumptious), cut fresh fruit (FRESH!). there was pretty much, something for everyone.

afternoon munchies from 3pm to 5pm was very nice. ice tea, pink lemonade, coffee service,  cookies, popcorn, assorted muffins. very yummy.

happy hour from 6pm to 7pm was a nice touch. sparkling cider, merlot, chard, assorted cheese cubes with crackers.

    a couple of downsides:
    - if you're a tv watcher, you'd be disappointed. the color in the picture of the very OLD set would come and go, mostly go.
    - there's not much cross draft in the room even with front and back (bathroom) windows open on a still day or night. the room stayed at 75-76 degrees thru the night, never cooling off. making me wonder if a ceiling fan would be difficult to install in the rooms. just to get some movement of air...

all in all, a truly wonderful place to stay.

We booked a room at another hotel and when we got here Saturday decided to call and check with the sea and sand. What do you know, they magically had a room and would let us stay one night. I'm not quite sure why this place has such high ratings. I mean ok, yes it's overlooking the water which is nice. But for the price, wow, the room is tiny. Crappy old style tube tv. No place to put anything in the bathroom as far as toiletries at all. The room itself is basically a motel 6 room. 70's style furniture. We were in room 104. Other than this place being on the cliff and overlooking the water, it doesn't really have anything else going for it.

If you want to enjoy the view you have to go sit outside anyway. The rooms are so small you only have the bed to sit on.

We won't come back here again. I'd rather pay a few bucks more and get a lot more.

If this place was like $150 a night id say ok. But for $250 a night. No way!!

    I wish I could give 2 1/2 stars.

The good; helpful and professional employees.  Good looking Inn from outside. Close to beach. Hi speed wifi. Comfortable beds. You can hear the surf while you sleep. Nice view and patio.

The bad; standard rooms come with a boob tube 1995 television (?), they do offer 'soda and cookies' at 3 to 5. You get coolaid and tea in a carafe plus the cookies. Parking is atrocious as in, if you get a parking spot, DONT LEAVE IT OR YOU WILL LOSE IT AND PAY FOR PARKING ELSEWHERE. Walls are thin so you will hear toilets flushing and people walking above you.
On a side note, our toilet never worked so we were moved to another room suite. However, we specifically tried getting a suite when we booked the room 2 weeks in advance and somehow they have a suite available (?).
The original room looked dated, the suite wasn't AS dated (early ninties). Ok, my biggest complaint; we wanted a room on the beach and that's exactly what they advertise, however, there is NO BEACH ACCESS.  You have to walk 5 minutes down the street to the beach.
All in all, I'll never stay here again - not for the price.

Everything I expected! We got there a bit early for check in so we went down by the patio and looked at the beautiful scenery, noticed that the rides were going so off we went to the boardwalk. When we checked in we noticed we had our own car port and the room was slightly away from the rest of the hotel (we got the cottage suite) when we walked in right away you noticed the view! Wow! The ocean was amazing! The living room was big with microwave and cofee maker and hot chocolate as well. Nice big tv in both rooms. The front desk was always polite and helpful. I recommend eating breakfast on the patio, excellent view! Overall our anniversary was exactly what we hoped for! Will be back!

Nice place clean Greatview I do believe we have the second of the best room room 208. For the price it's pretty damn nice. For 200+ a night I would expect they're not to be birdshit on the patio furniture the 50 thread count sheets were a little hard on my derrière. The single ply cheap toilet paper was notup to my expectations either I believe I am being very generous giving this place three stars though I would stay here again I would just bring my own sheets and toilet paper.

I love the location of the Sea and Sand Inn. I'm a rain lover so this is our new off season spot...as of now. The staff is really nice, and I love the ambiance of the inn. While I'm compiling a list of where to stay and not stay along the coast during the off season, SandS Inn is a definite front runner. I'm in the customer service business so how you're  treated is important to me. All of the pluses about this place mean nothing if you're treated poorly. You don't have to worry about that here. From the manager, Rolando, to the front desk clerks and the housekeeping, the customer service is actually great. The view from every room is amazing, the beds are comfy, and the free continental breakfast is tasty, fresh and convenient. You won't find better value anywhere in Santa Cruz than the Sea and Sand Inn. Don't bother trying, seriously. :)

Another awesome stay at this beautiful place. Yes, a little pricey, even off season, but we'll worth it. This time we stayed in rm 208, a king suite with gas fireplace, kitchenette with real dishes, and gigantic bath suite, with the deepest Jacuzzi tub I've ever seen. Complimentary wine at night and breakfast in the morning is awesome. Little surprises all over the room to make your stay more comfortable. Beautiful views from the private balcony; perfect for cocktails at night and coffee in the morning :)

Sea and Sand Inn is my new favorite place to stay in Santa Cruz! We could not have had a better experience.

Location: Absolutely perfect! It was within walking distance of everything (boardwalk, downtown, lighthouse, beaches) yet it's not on the main strip which means it is peaceful and quiet and all you hear is the sound of the ocean at night.

View: Every room has a completely unobstructed ocean view! Plus, there are 2 levels of patio seating overlooking the ocean which makes for a perfect coffee, lunch, wine, book reading, tanning, basically anything spot!

Customer service: from the moment we checked in we were treated as one of the family, everyone had a smile on their face. Free delicious chocolate chip cookies starting at 3pm and free wine & cheese hour at 6pm.

Our rooms were clean, spotless, spacious and modern. We even had a cute fireplace in the room.

I was so so sad to leave Sea and Sand but excited to now have it is my vacation spot!!!

We checked in this weekend. We're usually Not used to traveling so I didn't really know what to expect. They had wine and cheese at check in. The view was awesome!  Walking distance from the board walk and wharf restaurants ! It was a little noisy at night  but other than that everything was perfect!!

Luxury King Spa Room. This is a special treat as it is pricey. That being said I have paid this much (A lot) to stay at other places with a lot less amenities. Very happy with the spacious room. There is a nice balcony,  fireplace, even binoculars so you can enjoy the view of the coastline. Our room had a mini kitchen including fridge, microwave, coffee maker and all the fixins'. Minimal continental breakfast. Daily cookies and lemonade 3-5pm. Wine 6-7pm.  Free parking. I have stayed in the upper crust hotel next door before. We had to pay ( a lot) to park and it did not have all the amenities that the Sea & Sand does.

The fiancee and I made a recent trip here during the off season, and they were doing a lot of renovating during this time frame. This did impact our ability to park a little bit, and we ended up with a small ding on our vehicle, presumably from the large truck that was moving the open top dumpster in and out each day. There was also plenty of extra foot traffic during the daytime, which did not impact us too much since we were out and about during the day.

The Room: We stayed in the Grand Luxury King Spa room (208). The views from the room are very good, and being able to listen to water crash on the beach at night was memorable. The private balcony that overlooks the beach and wharf was excellent for relaxing and drinking wine. A friendly seagull would keep us company on occasion, and the butterflies fluttering about were nice to watch. The room has a gas fireplace which heats the room and is a very nice touch. 2 person jetted tub in the room which we enjoyed.

Location: Easy walking distance to the beach, wharf and the boardwalk area. Downtown is about a mile away, not too far to walk.

Staff: Was friendly and helpful the couple times we needed something.

This is now one of our favorite spots and we will definitely return in the future.

This place is just spectacular!  Rooms are very clean and modern, incredible views and the staff is just anxious to be helpful. Rolando is the best!
All the rooms face the beach and sitting on my bed here I can see the wharf and the boardwalk. It's only a 1/2 mile stroll, very pleasant.
This place is our new "Go To" place to stay when we visit this part of the state.

Thanks to all the 'Yelpers' out there for finding this spot and all the reviews. It's because of you we are having a fantastic stay in a place with no bad surprises.

Shockingly, my 12 yr old son actually likes the breakfast here. You can hear the sea lions on the wharf and the waves on the beach. Beats hearing traffic all night.
