Basic no frills motel. Clean and very reasonably priced. Also very close to the casinos and restaurants. Decor and mattresses are pretty old.

Perfect location. I stayed the weekend here. The price was cheap  for a clean, nice room with good heat, a modern shower, and a small desk with a chair.  A small refrigerator and a microwave come with the room. There is free coffee and pastries  in the morning too.

The grounds are well kept and overflowing with beautiful flowers.  The pool is an amazing place to relax and swim during the summer.

There are lots of places in walking distance including the lake, many restaurants, and a drug store.  Everything else is within a quick drive.

Great rooms and a fantastic deal. A friendly couple manages the place.

$69/nt mid week.
Family has been staying here every year for the last 5+ years when we go boarding.
Walking distance to the casinos, even in snow.  Reasonable prices.  It's a little old, but it's a warm place to sleep.
We called the front desk to ask for more toilet paper and they asked us to come and pick it up.  That's fine.

Basic motel for a good price.  It's like a 5-10 min walk to the Heavenly gondola, and only like two blocks away from the casinos.  The room itself was old but clean and beds not very comfortable but also not entirely uncomfortable.  It was nice having a fridge and microwave in the room and the free wifi was spotty.  It was a great price compared to everything else for the dates we were there.  The casino rooms were almost twice the price and Embassy Suites was about 3 to 4 times the price.  If I'm going for budget I'd definitely stay here again.

I would not even give them one star. Without saying too much the hotel management cannot be trusted and is rude. They promised to hold on to a canceled reservation for a year. When the time came they did not honor the hold, saying that their commitment to me was a mistake. They should have told me the truth the very first time, instead of lying to me later.

How can anyone do business with such dishonesty?
I am not concerned about the money since the amount is not too large. I am concerned about businesses that are dishonest to their customers

Friendly manager and enjoyed the morning coffee and breakfast bars/Danish. Also, the room included a kitchenette, which was perfect for making breakfast.  The lodge is close to town and i have no real complaints...enjoyed our stay.  Of course, there are nicer places to stay in S. Lake Tahoe, but for the money, the ambassador motor lodge was clean, and convenient.  The furniture, bathroom fixtures and kitchen appliances are old, and outdated, but everything worked.

What a dump! I came here while i was working and it was a disaster. The rooms are old and poorly decorated and the furniture is rickety and nothing works properly. The Internet was down the whole time and I couldn't get any work done. They had the television plugged into the same receptacle as the main room light, so you can't watch television with the lights out. The thermostat was broken and it was 85 degrees in the middle of the night. The pillows are worn, hard, and flat and the pillow cases reek of bleach. Not all the locks worked. The bathroom had numerous cigarette burns on the sink and tub areas. The bath tub faucet is backwards and I was scalded by water that child have been cold. The shower head is also very low. I bumped my head a few times whilst shampooing. There was a repetitive noise that kept me awake. The pool was still unfilled. And the continental breakfast ended early. And when I complained, a girl in pajama bottoms and a t-shirt  gave me the runaround. Then, some guy asked why I didn't say anything the day before, but I did. I checked out.

Booked a room here on a quick ski weekend in South lake and it was an easy place to stay when you just need a basic (and clean) crashpad.

Pros: clean, relatively spacious rooms, location is close to the main drag and to Heavenly, very reasonable rates,  was able to book room just a few days prior.

Cons: 45+ mins to Kirkwood

Pros: Walking distance to the strip. Continental breakfast included.

Cons: Deceiving nice from the outside. Springs jut out of the beds. Pool & hot tub isn't in working condition. Parking is limited.

I debated between two and three stars only because you should have fairly low expectations for the price.  If you are in a bind in the winter and need a roof over your head it beats sleeping in the cold; however I would opt for outside in the summer.   They did "forget" to clean my room also.

This motel was a pile!!
The only good thing about the motel was that I was able to bring my dogs.
So I check in on Friday while I was checking in the lady at the counter forgot to charge me for my dog.  She said that she would talk to her supervisor and tell her that she just waived the pet fee. I thought that was awesome.. So I look at my bank account and see an additional charge for $20 with out my authorization.  So I called and she said that no one could waive the fee with our the ladies I was talking to consent.  She then proceeded told me it was a cleaning fee to steam the carpets.  ( that was a lie because the room was very dirty, smiley, gross, and you could see pet stains on the carpet from other pets that were there before us.)
So then we got to or room and it smelled soooo bad we had to open the windows to air it out.
Later that night we got into bed and we could feel every spring in that bed. It was so uncomfortable I was not able to sleep.  I thought about moving to the floor but with all the pet stains I just stayed in the bed.
Like I said the only thing good about the stay is that my fiancé and my dogs were there!!
I will never stay in this motel again!!!!!

I had an incredibly terrible experience at this hotel.  I'm still very upset at the service I received.

It all started 4 months before my trip.  I booked ( or I thought I booked) this hotel for a girls weekend.  We really didn't care about the quality of the room or amenities obviously at all.   $75 per night, walking distance to casinos and beach... Pretty much perfect. Booked!   I asked the woman on the line to send me a confirmation.  She said she didn't have the capability to email me a confirmation because they have new software.  Surprised, and confused, I told her that I needed something in writing indicating that I had a room.  She said she would write a note for the manager to call me.  Ok thanks.

Get a call from Sunny from the Capri Motel (same owners) around 7pm that night.  "this is sunny, I have you down for a room at the ambassador, and you requested I call". She then said " I hope you did not give them your credit card information, if so I would suggest you call your bank and stop the payment, there has been a few cases of stolen identity from a few employees over there". I was freaked out.   But I was also stuck because the rooms were filling up fast for the weekend in July that I booked ( celebrity golf tourney, journey & maroon 5 concert)   Sunny assured that she would take care of me and I will have a room no matter what.  She said she would accommodate me at the Capri motel.  I then asked her to put all of this in writing and to send me a confirmation email.  I had to call everyday for 3 days until it was sent.  It was, and I was confirmed a room for that weekend.

I called every month until my stay to ensure I still had a room.. I did.

I called 3 days before my stay and the woman at the front desk said I still had a room. I asked her how much the room was and she confirmed $119.     Since when and how did it jump to $119!!!  I was livid!    Her excuse was that they have new management and had to raise prices.  The confirmation that was emailed to me didn't include a rate.  I never thought in a million years i would have to worry about the rate increase. To make a long frustrating, blood boiling story short I got into a few yelling matches with the manager Shawn.  I threatened to contact the better business bureau...He would not budge, I was in shock and disbelief.  He then threatened to cancel my reservation because they could fill it within a few moments.  Remember, I was stuck, I am now left with no room for a weekend that I had planned 4 months earlier. At this point I could not find a hotel cheaper than $250.  I had no choice but to swallow my pride and suck it up. I had friends relying on this room.

In summary, this was a terrible experience, I will NEVER EVER EVER use the Capri Motel or Ambassador motor Inn.  Terrible service! They lied, they didn't care about a paying customer. Customers should never be treated the way I did. Do not stay here.  Plus the rooms are disgusting. I hope with the last minute raised fees they can make money to update.  Check out your white socks after walking on the carpet. Yuck!!

I've stayed here a few times, usually during snowboard season, usually for a 3 night weekend. It is a dated motel (think old school style lighting and a giant bulky RCA tv), and you do get what you pay for. The carpeting appears old, but clean enough, the bathroom is clean, shower has decent pressure and is very hot for those steamy showers post-mountain. They serve breakfast on weekends, but DO NOT expect anything, it is just brewed coffee, capri sun juice, hiddne valley granola bar, and some costco pre-packaged donut/bear claws. Some rooms have an en suite kitchen, which was nice and unexpected. Contrary to what some people on yelp/tripadvisor has said though, I have never noticed any bedbugs.

Pro: cheap ($40/nt), close/walking distance to gondola
Con: on busy days, parking can be a hassle and you'd have to get creative and risk someone blocking you in, older style, breakfast is lacking severely, lack of microwave/fridge in standard rooms unless you upgrade (usually for extra 10/nt)

We've been coming to the Ambassador Lodge for our annual "In Memory Of Mom" family reunion for the past several years.  It is clean and close to all the great Tahoe amenities.  The staff is friendly and the management is superb.  We left today only to discover that my daughter (who celebrated her 21st birthday party the night before) left her wallet at the hotel, with all her "birthday gifts" aka cash from her party.  I explained to her that she will be lucky if she got her license back.  I called the front desk, not only did they find the wallet, all of the contents were there when my cousin (who was still in town) picked it up for us.  THAT IS 5 STAR!!!!!  Tell me another hotel in a casino town that you will find that kind of service.  I will forever be a loyal customer.   5 star!!!!  Thanks Theresa and your great staff!!!!

SHADY OWNERS!  AVOID THIS PLACE!!

Besides the fact that the place was EXTREMELY OUTDATED (straight out of the 70's) and NOT ALL THAT CLEAN, the front desk manager also managed to double bill my credit card for the stay to boot.  That would have been OK if they'd honored the free nights stay they promised for the inconvenience, but when I called to book a room they told me they wouldn't be able to because the manager who made the mistake no longer worked there.  What a cop-out!

THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER PLACES TO STAY IN SOUTH LAKE TAHOE AND STATELINE; choose any of them and you'll have a better experience than you will at the Ambassador Motor Lodge.

My family has been coming here for almost fifty years...since my mother was a little girl yes really that long. I'm sure it has gone through different owners during the years but every time I have stayed here with my family the hotel has been well priced and clean. The location is amazing. You can party at the casinos and walk home within minutes, walk down to the beach, or be a couple minutes walk away from the Heavenly Gondola. Yes the place looks like it is straight out of the seventies but if you can get over that, the hotel really is an amazing deal.

Clean, friendly staff, and the rooms have mini fridges and microwaves.  What more do you want from a cheap motel in South Lake?  A bit run-down, but that's to be expected, and clean makes up for it.  Extra blankets and pillows available.

A-OK is the operative term here; it's a replacement-level motel; I've stayed in a lot of motels in South Lake, and they are all about the same.

Useful facts:
The hot tub was closed (this was in the middle of winter).

They didn't mind an extra car parking here before going skiing.  The woman working the front desk was pleasant.

The included wi-fi was mediocre quality.

The included breakfast started at 8 AM, and we were heading to the slopes before that, so we didn't get a chance to eat it.

The concierge was very nice and the room was clean. The decor was defiantly unique. For the price and location you really can't beat it.

The stay itself was not too bad, but their office hours are NOT as they post them.  Also, they charge you an additional Resort Fee even though you reservation through Travelocity states that the Resort Fee is covered in your overall room price.  To top things off, we only chose this hotel because it stated that a continental breakfast was included and when checking in we were rudely informed that continental breakfast is only served on Saturdays and Sundays. (were there on a Thursday evening)  Even after having Travelocity contact this place to at least refund the extra resort fee that I was charged, they refused.  If I could give them a -5 star rating I would simply because of their false advertising and inability to admit that they are wrong.

My husband and I decided to head to South Lake Tahoe for Valentine's Day weekend and we did our inquires at the last minute. We came across the Ambassador through kayak and the reservation process was easy. While on the drive up there my husband and I hit traffic. We called the front desk at the motel and Carol was absolutely helpful. She informed us that she would assist us with late check in. When my husband and I arrived she stayed there waiting for us and checked us in promptly. She is a wonderful example of friendly customer service. My husband and I liked the room. It was clean and up kept. There were fresh sheets and a nice amount of coffee to be brewed in the room. The only thing I would say is that maybe the bathroom and light fixtures could be renovated is all. It's a bit outdated but everything worked just fine. A great thing about the rooms is that you can't hear your neighbors in the next room. My husband and I were able to get a good night's sleep. With regards to the continental breakfast I would say they could use more of a variety of bagels, fruit and some pastries. That would add more to this little hole in the wall gem. I also enjoy how it is within walking distance from Harrah's, Harveys and the Hard Rock Cafe. Not bad pricing at all if you are on a budget. Thank you Carol for all your assistance with making my and my husband's trip a great one :)
