this is a great place to stay for a affordable rate you get a continental breakfast pool spa and hotub access to the beach a small balcony to sit on with your room and even a barbeque place to cook if you like sure there are way fancier places on southshore but this hotel is quiet clean and the staff is fantastic how they treat you what else matters for me 5 stars all the way for all the other people who wrote bad reviews on here i say go stay in a 250 dollar a night place but i bet the staff will not truly care about you like this place does

the worst place i have ever stayed at. we walk in and the first thing we did was take the comforter off the bed. if the room is that dirty i can only imagine how dirty the comforter would be. cleaning---uhhh, their isn't any. the walls were beyond dirty and could really use some wiping and dusting, the room smelled and the bathroom was the smallest ever. it made it difficult for 2 people to get ready, so you have to one by one. when others say thin walls....that's an understatment. we heard everything word for word our neighbors were saying. we were just happy it wasn't a couple. everytime they slammed their door, since no one can just close the door, it sounded like they were entering our room. our neighbors kept us up till they went to bed, and woke us up at 6am. so our vacation was determinded by our neighbors. to say the least, we were not happy campers. the beds....horrible. we all woke up with our back hurting and we tossed all night. we can sleep anywhere, but this place was not comfortable. breakfast...don't count on filling up here. they had sunny d orange juice, bagels and pop tarts spread out on a platter. the jam-gorss. it was just a big slop in a bowl. when i think of a free breakfast, i think yogurt, bagels, waffles....etc. you know what most people provide to thier guests. worst ever!!! lastly...they give you real keys so if you lose one, they charge you $10. really???

i booked this place thinking since it was close we were set...um no. there are a ton of places that looked nicer and are just as close, if not closer. it's worth paying 20 more so you can be comfortable and enjoy your vacation they way you planned.

do not stay here. you're better of camping.

This place was horrible and I will never stay there again. The only positive was the location--within blocks of heavenly, the casinos, and the beach--and the super cheap rate we got from going to a timeshare presentation.

It was so bad that I was almost willing to to go somewhere else and pay twice as much or more just to stay somewhere else.

-no clock

-no hairdryer

-pillows were less than an inch thick

-torn carpet, torn lampshades, broken doors, the bolt on the front door was didnt work, smelly and rough towels, itchy blankets

-we got stuck with the absolute worst room which is super tiny with a view of the fluorescent "vacancy" sign and the road and no balcony although all the rooms surrounding had them. It was connected to the room next door which had strangers in it so we could hear extra through the doors.

-the tv was SUPER small and grainy and the remote didnt work (and it wasnt that the battery was dead, it just wasn't programed for that tv)

-walls are super thin so you can hear absolutely everything that goes on around you

-water pressure comes in and out at the most inopportune times leaving you unable to rinse the conditioner fully out of your hair

-there was dirt all over the ice bucket.

-the most uncomfortable bed ever--equivalent to a pull-out bed from 1970 leaving me with a back that feels cramped and bruised

-they claim to have free wifi but the signal is terrible--equivalent to the signal that you can get from the casino's that are 2 blocks away!

-the woman in the office when we checked in was very unfriendly. The guy in the office when we checked out pretty much confirmed we got the worst room--request to NOT get room 254 if you must stay here for whatever reason

-parking is a disaster--only a handful of marked spots and the rest is a free-for-all depending on where the snow piles up.  When someone cant get out because they are blocked by someone else trying to squeeze into an open "spot" management proceeds to call EVERY room at SIX A.M. until they find the owner of the car needing to be moved because they cant be bothered to take license plate numbers down when you check in.

...the list goes on but basically i will NEVER stay there again unless in absolute desperation and then I will plan on not spending any time in the room.

Great place, great value and great customer service!  Friendly staff welcomed us and was really helpful.  The room was clean with a balcony.  Walking distance to the gondola - great location.

The main property manager is nice and really puts effort into good service but the quality of the rooms carry more weight in what makes a good hotel for me.  Checked into the room and it was cold to start with.  The radiant heater did not have a fan so it took about 1.5 hrs to get the room warm.  The walls are very thin.  But this place works if you are a little tougher that others and tolerable.   And being AAA approved does not mean "quality".  AAA makes it sound like a qualification service standard.

for the price was good- clean comfortable rooms, not much to brag nor complain about.  there doesn't seem to be good insolation between rooms because you could hear all sorts of noise from other guests. probably a good place for younger people and budget travelers. Within walking distance to the big casinos at the Stateline, which is convenient after a night of drinking.  WIFI was available BUT signal was week as we were staying at their complex across the street. (They have two buildings located across the street from each other.)

Despite the bad reviews, we had a pleasant stay for the price ($65 for 4 ppl or about $16 per person -- 2 queen beds on Friday night) and for what we expected -- a place to crash and sleep after our drive up and before we went off to Heavenly on Saturday. We booked the place on Hotwire a few days before, and it was less than half the price of other inns in the area for Friday. We checked in around 1am. The place was a little worn and older with rough towels and cheap showerhead, but the room was large, warm and clean. The next morning we saved money and time on breakfast (decent bagel with cream cheese). The continental breakfast offered more than most other places. The guy who checked us in the night before chatted with us a bit and was very friendly and helpful with directions to Heavenly. This place is good for trips for the purpose of skiing/boarding in the area and getting some sleep at a low price. The location is good and the area has a lot of restaurants and other businesses.

My rating is based off of what you pay for. This is a good deal for about $16/person/night with a quick simple breakfast. If you want more, other hotels go for about $40/person/night (Friday) for 4 people in one room with 2 queen beds in the area.

I have stayed here for long weekends 2 times and will definitely come back whenever I am in South Lake Tahoe. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are good for anyone looking to an affordable hotel option. I went here with a group of 6 people and it was really good. The rooms are decent and worth the $60 a night I paid. The continental breakfast was decent. But could improve and have more selection like bagels and juice. It's also walking distance from the main road with the casinos and shopping center. The other great thing about this place is the nearby private beach. It's also walking distance from the hotel. Plus free wi-fi!!

Don't have review yet, as we are going up this weekend and the room was a time-share seminar freebie- but you all have me scared.  I guess we'll just start drinking right away.  I'll give a full report upon our return.

Okay- we're back!  I gotta say...it IS pretty ghetto, but, the checkin folks were nice, the donuts fresh, and the location awesome (if you like SLT).  It did, however, smell very strongly of lysol upon entrance to the room and the towels were stinky, like moldy-poop.  Walls were, you guessed it, paper-thin.  But- at an avg. of $70 a night, this is a place I woulda crashed at many times in my more rambunctious days.

The first sign I should have payed attention to was when my friend and I caught the nighttime manager watching porn in the customer service office. If I had taken this hint and found another hotel, we would not have had this terrible time to follow. The next day, after returning from snowboarding, we unlocked our door to find our hotel room was burglarized without a forced entry- but by someone who had a key! The first strange thing I noticed was that the maid had put fresh towels in the bathroom, but did nothing else- not even make the beds. We were not the only guests burglarized, either! We went to the office before we filed a police report, only to find a "manager" who showed no sense of urgency, shock or concern. He just said call the police and he did not care to see the room, nor did he wait for the police to arrive. He did claim he had never had a burglary before, but has had guests claim something was stolen- only for them to call back when home to say they had found it. I guaranteed him that my laptop and digital camera were not being overlooked- along with the other stolen items, such as my friend's camera, checkbook, ssn# card, medication, etc. etc. We were never offered a different room or any consolation, just rudeness. The kicker is that it's plain to see that this is either the work of an employee or an ex-employee who still has keys. It's the most ridiculous case of gross negligence I had ever encountered and I have no doubt that this motel should be held accountable as it is fully fault on their part. If someone broke the lock or if it was only us who had been burglarized, I could see differently, but our room was broken into by someone with a key- and they even locked when they were finished!
After we finished filing our police report, we obviously did not want to stay the second night there- it just did not feel safe. We would have driven home that night, but it was snowing too heavily to drive down the mountain. At 9:00pm, we had to search for another hotel just so we could feel secure when we slept. It's the most terrible feeling. What if one of us did not go snowboarding that day and was alone when the room was burglarized? What danger would we have been in? It's too scary to think about! My friend is still having nightmares. Even if you are staying in a frugally-priced motel, you still expect to have that basic security for yourself and belongings- at least from the staff. I'm not suprised, either, that the manager never even followed up with us on the situation, even after several calls. I have never been treated with such disregard and incompetence. Do not go here, just not worth it.

Stayed here with a group of friends a few weeks back.  We rented a total of 3 rooms.

The +'s:

DIIIRRRTTYYY CHEAP
remodeled bathrooms
ski lockers for your gear with free locks
hot tub
location, close to heavenly gondola/casinos
DIRRRTTTTYYY CHEEEAPPPP (so cheap you have to mention it twice)
decent amount of cable channels
free breakfast (bagels, pop tarts, cereal, sunny d, coffee, top ramen (++ for top ramen and reminiscing over college days)
staff is friendly and helpful

The -'s

Really no minuses for the price.  You're not getting a pillowtop bed or nice bedding here, but c'mon people it works out to like 16 bucks a person a night -- what we're you expecting!

If you're looking to impress someone, don't bring them here. If you're looking for a dirty cheap place to cheap that is clean and close to everything, this is the spot.

This place is going to be my go to crash pad to keep Tahoe costs low.  It's shaping up to be an awesome 10/11 season so I'm sure I'll be spending many nights here, knock on wood.

I was looking for a good deal when i booked a room for me and my two friends here. They were nice enough to upgrade our room to something with a kitchen because it wasn't a busy weekend. They have all the things you would look for in a hotel: hot tub, breakfast, plenty of space, etc.

I would recomend this place to anyone coming to lake tahoe to snowboard. I will be staying here again.

Despite all the negative reviews and press - we had two free nights here and just couldn't turn it down during ski season.

Because our expectations were SOOOO low, it didn't end up being as bad as we thought.

Pros: Location, location, location.  We walked to the casinos, around the village, and to the gondola very easily.  It was nice to not have to worry about driving and catching cabs.  Tazo tea in the morning...I love Wild Sweet Orange tea!

Cons: The walls are thin, but our neighbors only seemed to bang around in the morning and at night when they were probably loading/unloading ski equipment.  The towels smelled HORRIBLE!  I started to use one and then had to ask my b/f to bring me one of the ones we brought.  The pillows felt sticky...like a residue from the detergent maybe?  There was no alarm clock/clock radio in the room...fortunately we had cell phones to tell time :)

How to survive:  Bring your own pillows and towels.  Seriously...I prefer to bring my own pillow whenever I can...and here it made all the difference.

Overall, it's a fine place to stay if you're getting a REALLY good deal.  Just know what to expect and be prepared to bring what you need to be happy and comfortable.

I think the low yelp ratings are undeserved.

Here's the deal, it's 3 blocks from the Casinos in Nevada.  It's 3 blocks from the Heavenly Gondolas.  It's a quiet and pleasant area, and our room was clean and the elderly guy working the counter was very friendly.

We paid $28 bucks per night during the week.  How can you complain about that!?!  We even got bagels and cereal for breakfast.

I'd go back and stay there again, absolutely.  I mean, you're in SLT for skiing, or vacationing of some sort, all you need is a quiet place to crash, and this place is wonderful.  If you're in your room long enough to notice something to complain about, you should leave and go have fun.

We arrived at 2:30am to a lobby that was unoccupied. We then used the phone to call the night manager who was asleep. He questioned whether or not we had a reservation, of which we had booked through Orbitz. He looked in his database, half-asleep and couldn't find our reservation. There was a mixup with Orbitz and their system. Despite the confusion, the manager went ahead and accomodated us. He gave us keys and we headed across the street and up a flight of stairs. Upon opening the door we found the room unclean and were afraid that there was somebody sleeping there.

We headed back to the office to clear it up. After trying to decipher which room was clean or unoccupied, he gave us another room. We decided to check it out before bringing our stuff in. Unfortunately, it was to no avail, it was dirty and perhaps occupied. So we waited again as he tried to figure out what to do. He gave us a 3rd set of keys, and we repeated the action. Third time was a charm, we placed our stuff in the room and went to bed.

Our experience was also graced with the night manager farting in front of us a couple times.

People there is a reason the rooms are so cheap...because you will have to pay the excess cost in extermination fee's!

Desperate time called for desperate measure.

And for us, we were desperate to find a last min. budget accommodation during the New Year holiday near Heavenly.   Frankly, we didn't care much where we sleep as long as it was clean and comfortable.  After all, the game plan was to get up early and hit the slopes...  Everything else seemed secondary.

We first met a very grumpy lady @ the front desk.  (And Happy Holiday to you too!)   Given that she was coughing all over the place, we gave her the benefit of the doubt that maybe she was just not having a jolly day.  After she gave us the wrong keys to our room and was completely unapologetic about us running back and forth in the snow just to get the right keys, we found ourselves in a shitty room that nowhere resembled the pictures that we saw on Expedia.  (What a surprise.)  The toilet did not flush, apparently since the last person who stayed in there.  The window did not close and it was 22 degrees outside.  The heater barely worked.  And after we called to complain about the "situations", the front desk lady said there was no maintenance on site.  She only grudgingly said she'd send somebody when we threatened to check out after our demand to change room was rejected.

The rest of the story would be a complete waste of time to tell... but you get the drift...

I was almost too embarrassed to write this review - it's simply an admission that I've sunk so low to stay at a place like this for the New Year holiday.  What a way to end 2007.  But heck, in the spirit of good public service, here it is.

Bottom line - JUST DON'T.

P.S.  Why can't you give "no" star on yelp review?   One star is too  generous.

P.S.S.  If there's any consolation, I graduated from the bunny hills!!!

For a great price of $34.99 for two beds, not bad. It's very cold in Tahoe during winter, so the room was well heated for us coming in. The room was very clean, new bathroom remodel, and wake up to a decent breakfast. Overall I enjoyed the place and it is recommended.

This place is awesome.  Cheapness runs in my Asian blood so I have an inherent need to find deals that are more like steals.  This is one of them.

As others have stated, this isn't some 5 star fancy pants hotel with maids, butlers, and slaves at your beck and call.  But you definitely get more than what you pay for... see points below:

- FREE BREAKFAST
- Running hot water
- Citrus smelling soap!
- Motion picture box
- Really nice staff
- Spacious
- Some rooms have microwave and mini fridge

There is a hot tub apparently, but I was so pooped from my days on the hill that I did not have the energy to partake in this.

But best yet, is that this place is super close to the Heavenly Gondola... Imagine the gas you save on that!

Even though I actually didn't pay for the room, I'm glad the person who did didn't have to pay much.

All I can say is that this place is very DIRTY, went to Tahoe to stay few days this weekend, but had to leave this hotel after one night only. Everything was very dirty and disgusting . The linens on the bed looked like they were not changed for a week, found 4-5 different types of hair on the pillows, and we had to sleep with our clothes on and put our own towel on the pillows , as it was to late to go somewhere else so we had to stay  there. Would not recommend it to anyone.

Stayed here for a quick overnight trip to Tahoe.  We were worried that the upstairs neighbors were noisy until we realized it was the hotel crew shoveling snow off the roof.  Basic room, beds are way too soft and TV cut off the bottom and the top of the image (unless Reno newscasters have cut-off heads).  Price was right and we weren't expecting anything but the basics,  Not great but adequate.  Hated that continental breakfast didn't start till 8:00 since we had to be somewhere at 8:00.

It's a two star motel, so I wasn't expecting it to be perfect. But I would have appreciated a kinder front desk attendant, and enough towels for the four of us staying in a room. The distance from the casinos & the slopes did not make the stay there worth it, and the carpets were nasty because of their inevitability to soak in all of the water from your wet ski boots. It smelled like mold and it was either too hot or too cold to sleep through the night. I said screw it and went to another hotel halfway through my stay and ate the cost.

I will never book this place again and I will make sure to tell everyone else to avoid it.

This place may not have everything but what it does have is an honest and admirable staff. My wife and I recently stayed there and when we checked out at the end of our stay, I left my iPad sitting in the hotel room. We traveled home to Southern California and realized it was missing two days later. When I called, Candice at the front desk cheerfully checked to see if the iPad was turned in. As it turns out, the maid found it and turned it in. Best Tahoe West Inn has an honest caring staff, more than what could be expected at a Motel 6 that's for sure...

This place is exactly what it advertises and a bit more - an inexpensive hotel with nice people in a great location. At less than half the price of the casinos, I enjoy spending my money at an independently owned establishment and knowing the manager who has been there over 20 years.

This is my snow hotel for winter overnights in South Lake Tahoe and I'm satisfied enough that I usually stay 2 nights 3-5 times each ski season. I've tried many of the other discount hotels - some are pretty gross - but I keep returning to Best Tahoe West. It's a 10 minute walk to the Gondola and Casinos. I don't go to South Lake in the summer, but I believe the lake is very close.

It's nothing fancy, but it the BEST VALUE in Tahoe and they work hard to keep the place clean and room updated.

When we stayed here the only driving we did was up to spooner lake for some XC skiing. We walked everywhere else, even while it was snowing!

This was the 3rd time ive stayed here, and I have always been extremely satisfied with my stay. The free breakfast in the morning is also a great way to fill up on energy before driving home.

Yeah it was ghetto, but it's really cheap. We just stayed here for a night to sleep, the bed is not comfortable & the room it self is not presentable. We did get new towels and beddings.
If you just want a place to crash for a cheap price this isn't bad if you really have to save money. You get what you pay for. This is the cheapest place to stay in South Lake Tahoe and great location, that's why if you don't book ahead you won't be able to get a spot, it always has no vacancy. Yup, even though it has a horrible review, this place is still always over booked because of the price.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for two nights over superbowl weekend. It's super close to Heavenly village and all the casinos, who will gladly take the money you saved by booking this place! The bed was a little saggy, but other than that, the room was just fine and really well insulated, so really toasty, even without the heater.
It does have it's downsides though...the walls are paper thin, and we could hear everything that was happening next door, which wasn't too bad, but sometimes a little annoying. The internet is slow, but only at peak times. At 2am though, lightning fast.

I would probably stay here again though. You simply cannot beat the location.

If you like to blow money of fancy-pants accomodations, by all means please do.

If you are not interested in bells and whistles and pricey items, the Best Tahoe West Inn is a fabulous place to stay.

It isa short walk from Lakeside Beach and a short walk from the Tahoe Strip--wonderful options in either direction.

I love staying at the Best Tahoe West Inn.  My boyfriend and I have  enhanced our our weekends with exploring the area and the walks allow for a view into other parts of the area if you are into that kinda thing.  Biking is good from there as well.

Best Tahoe West Inn is always comfortable and no-nonsense.  If you get a room in the front of their building right next to the Green Lantern (across the street from the registration office), you get a great view of the setting sun in your room.

If you desire the glitz and glamour of Harvey's and Harrah's, it is a very short walk from this place.  It's almost if you are staying IN Harvey's--it's that close.

They have a pool and gym on-site and friendly staff.  The bedding is clean, but if you want a puffy comforter, bring your own.  The beds here are functional, not aesthetic.

It's clean which is great, however needs to updated badly. For $50 a night though what can I expect. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The TV is older than me, so is the carpet. The walls are paper thin so even though we were without our kids we were woken up at 7. The breakfast was a sad excuse of a continental breakfast, some cereal and an eggo waffle.

I was planning for a few weeks already to take my lady on a trip to
Lake Tahoe.

Expedia.com was having great deals for Harvey's/Harrah's. I was ready to book for Harvey's 63 a night deal, but to my sad surprised the deal was over the second I decided! It now was about 150/night.

I see the raving reviews here, I do not mean to be a downer. I must be honest in my reviews. I yelped this place saw good things. Expedia showed they had a 50$ a night deal then booked for 2 nights.

After a long scary drive to get here I was relieved to make it to Best Tahoe Inn safely. The guy at the front desk was nice gave us our keys. We took a brisk walk over to our room. Opened the door, as I walked in I couldn't help but notice a smell that was close to that of B.O. but the room was decent. The bed sheets did not fit our king size bed, so it kept slipping off, we ended up having to do without sheets.

We had very low connection from the Wi-Fi, as it was going in and out of service through out our whole trip. As we left my GF returned the keys, the frontdesk man asked how our room was. She replied everything was good, but the internet. He then continued to say, the room was checked just now. He saw that the router was unplugged, adding that we shouldn't bother mentioning this on the net.

Fishy thing was, we were at our rooms all morning, as my GF was at the front desk I was right infront of our room, also we didnt request cleaning service because we slept in the day before so no one had entered. I will take the man's word for it though. Still I feel it needed to be mentioned.

3 stars is the most honest rating I can give this place. If you aren't picky, need a decent place to rest for a great price. I doubt you'll be disappointed here.

Half the hotel (and thus the hot tub) is across the street so if you're stuck in the "annex" apres ski hot tub time could be miserable.  This place is also lacking basic amenities offered in any of the other hotels in South Lake (hair dryer, iron, coffee makers).  The beds were so uncomfortable that I can say without hesitation I had the two worst nights of sleep in my life at this place.  The fact that the heater clanks all night so you have to choose between sleep and warmth made it even more miserable.  The bedding was so disgusting, tattered and gross looking I didn't want to touch it.  It's also a little too far to walk comfortably to the Gondola in ski boots.  The only great thing was decent water pressure.  I really struggled to find one positive here.

This place must be the worst hotel in South Lake.  No thank you.

The guy in the front desk was a nice guy, very kind and helpful. The rooms were big, you could easily fit 4 people in a room. The location is great it's right behind all the big casinos. I would definitly recommend this place.

This hotel was an excellent choice for the money! I was originally in a spot where the WI-FI was having problems and I was immediately moved to a room with better reception.

Additionally you can walk to Heavenly gondola and Harveys casino, which are both huge benefits in South Lake.

If your looking for a good deal on a room, this place rocks!

Excellent value accommodation close to the Heavenly gondola and Nevada scene.  No-frills, but great value.  Rooms are big and clean, with refrigerators and microwaves.

Please, do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY.

My husband and I just got back from there, and I could hardly wait to warn everyone about this place. This has to be the DIRTIEST place I've ever stayed at. There was hair in the bed, the pillowcases were filthy, and the bedspread actually had a huge pee stain on it. The hot water was shut down for a full 24 hours, so we were forced to go to a whole other building in the snow to shower. Once we got there we found PUBIC hair in the other shower. So. Disgusting.

It may be cheap, but it's not worth all the headache. Worrying if you are laying in someones hair or worse is not worth the headache. There are PLENTY of other places around this area that are in walking distance to casinos and the gondola.

Pay more or just stay anywhere else but here. Really. Trust me.

I stayed here this past weekend with some friends and I want to start off by saying that I don't understand all of the negative reviews on the place..I found some reviews on other sites where people where people were complaining about FREE food not being good enough... C'mon people really??

I personally think this place was great. Cheapest hotel in the area with a hot tub. It's within walking distance to shopping centers, grocery stores, casinos and the lakefront. The staff was very friendly and polite when we asked for directions and extra towels. One thing that was great for us was the surrounding area, if you go out to the street the hotel is on and walk to the right a few blocks there is a field and small hills for snow-play and sledding. The hot tub was nice, decent amount of privacy because its between the buildings. The underwater light was broken in it but that's no big deal.

The continental breakfast was nice, I mean what's not to like about free bagels, coffee and chocolate poptarts? Anyone who isn't happy with that...what did you expect for free from a budget hotel, scrambled eggs and bacon? Another great perk, the laundry facility is FREE! That was very convenient when we had tons of wet snow clothes to dry everyday. There are some vending machines near the office for a late snack or soda.

As for the room, we had a 2 bed kitchenette room and it was HUGE, plenty of walking room and area for our tons of luggage. I think the clerk said he gave us the largest room because we had an extra person. The couch folded out into a bed as well so we payed for a 2 bed but technically got 3! That's a pretty good deal to me. The bathroom was nicely remodeled, large mini fridge that actually fit a decent amount of food, great little private balcony for fresh air and smoke breaks. The room was clean and well-kept, fairly modern decorations/paint. We spend a lot of time just relaxing in the room and it was very comfortable to hang out in with some friends.

One last thing, we all slept through our alarm and didn't wake up until 10:45am which didn't leave us enough time to be out by the checkout time which is 11am. We explained that to the front desk and they politely gave us an extra hour to checkout at no extra cost.

Cheap, free food, kind staff and all close to main shops/attractions, definitely a great deal to me.

Not too shabby. Cozy, comfortable accommodations but the room me and a few friends shared didn't have a fridge but it's Tahoe in the winter/spring. The balcony was our fridge. But it's close to Heavenly and the casinos. And it's cheap - we paid $55 for a night.

I have access to an apartment in Tahoe but this place works just as well, sans kitchen and whirlpool.

2 stars for the dedicated staff and 2 more stars for the awesome location.

My husband and I spent the President's Day long weekend here and had so much fun, thanks to this hotel's proximity to a whole lot of things to do.

We walked to Heavenly resort where we spent one full day there, and saved on the $25 parking fee at the resort. We also walked to Harrah's and spent a night there.

If anything, they need to arrange for more parking space, because on two nights, we did not find a parking spot and the hotel manager had to move his car elsewhere so we could park our car. The free wi-fi was a disappointment, the free breakfast was very useful and helped us start the days early.

We really saved up on the hotel experience (it was no luxury, obviously) and spent liberally on winter sports and casinos. I never had such diverse experiences in 2 nights before, and I feel this hotel made it possible.

Reviews from Yelp and Hotels. com:
"Worst of Tahoe"
"Never stay here again"
"Ghetto and dirty"

We weren't planning to be around the inn much, so we booked this place since it was cheap, within walking distance to the Heavenly gondola and few minutes away from state line.

On the night we arrived, we all held our breaths as we checked into our room. Door opened, lights on and big sighs of relief. The room was dated, but no cracked ceiling or torn carpet. It was spacious and clean. The bathroom was small but had a recent coat of paint. Cheap showerhead and flimsy shower curtains. But not something we haven't seen at more expensive hotels.

We all agreed that it was a great deal, especially since the inn also provided and had the following amenities:
- complimentary breakfast
- free wifi
- free parking
- shuttle stop at the lobby to the Heavenly gondola
- equipment locker (for skis and snowboard storage)
- laundry room
- fitness room
- swimming pool
- hot tub
- sauna

Not the best, but not the worst. Definitely exceeded my expectations of a 2 star inn.

* By far, the best value in all of Tahoe.
* Clean rooms
* Perfect location (easy short walk to both beach and the "strip" of shops, casinos...etc)
* Nice breakfast selection
* Great pool, hot tub, and sauna!
* Friendly and helpful staff

I have been going to this place with my parents ever since my early teenage years.  We used to go to Lake Tahoe once a year for our summer vacation, and after the first time that we stayed at Best Tahoe West (I believe the name has changed) my parents would not even consider going any place else.  We always liked the proximity of this place to the beach, casinos, and shops.  The people that run Best Tahoe West are very nice, and friendly.  The free donuts in the morning were a nice touch.

This year my girlfriend is coming for a visit, and the two of us are planning on spending the week in south Lake Tahoe.  I am so looking forward to this trip, and just like my parents, I did not even consider staying at any other place.

2.5 STARS

To be fair, I am a snob when it comes to hotels. I feel like if I'm going on vacation, I want to stay in a place that is at least as nice as my room at home and I am OCD about cleanliness. But for a quickie ski trip on the cheap, this place was not too bad. We stayed in the cottage on this trip which was MUCH better than our previous stay last winter when I vowed never to return. Somehow my husband booked here again and I have to admit, I was not too happy. But I was pleasantly surprised when we entered the cottage. But I attribute that partly to the fact that my expectations were very very very very low  because of our last stay here.

The cottage is perfect for a small family with a sitting area, small kitchen, bunk beds and a small bedroom with TV. Most importantly, it was clean, a HUGE improvement from our last visit here when I just CRINGED at the housekeeping the last time we stayed in a room at this motel. The rooms are very old and dingy, the sheets didn't fit the bed and were cheap and scratchy, the carpets were literally threadbare. The housekeeping was atrocious. Even after I wiped everything down with Clorox wipes (think stray hairs in the shower), I couldn't get over how gross it was.

The cottage was definitely a huge improvement--more updated and much cleaner. There was a musty smell near the kitchen, but I guess that's how it gets in snowy places.  It also has its own private hot tub which probably hasn't been cleaned in eons--my sons said it smelled funny.

The whole place is very circa 1970 - it could use some serious brightening up and updating. Also, the wi-fi doesn't work in the cottage so you can't access the Internet which is inconvenient.

The location can't be beat. It's right around the corner from everything. The guy at the front desk seemed pretty nice. There's free breakfast near the lobby in the morning.

P.S. You'd be able to see my review or my previous stay here on Tripadvisor but they took down all the negative reviews! SHAME!!!!! I guess you can't trust Tripadvisor anymore.

Stayed here for the night when we went snowboarding around S. Lake Tahoe. Good location, close to the stateline casinos. Typical of what you would expect form an older inn: worn sheets, old bathroom fixtures, obsolete tv. However, everything was in fine order, i.e. clean. And has good water pressure on the shower and good heat from the heater. They even have a small, free breakfast spread of which we took advantage. They have free wifi however, I wasn't able to get a signal. Maybe because I was in their annex building? Oh, and their room keys are really keys, nice og touch.

Not as bad as I thought this place would be considering some of the reviews. Our room was pretty sizable compared to our other friends' room because we were the end unit. I guess we also got the better room between the two we booked. Our queen beds were not sunken in, we had a bench at the end of each bed and had plenty of space for a table and 2 chairs.

The bed spreads and towels looked clean, there wasn't really a shower head, but the water pressure was decent. The wifi signal wasn't very strong, but it was usable. For the price, it was good, and they even provided a lot in their complimentary breakfast (constant refills on fruit, bagels, bread, top ramen, oatmeal, cereal, OJ, milk, hot water). Walking distance from the Heavenly gondola was awesome! Parking was kind of a pain though if you got there too late.

This is one of the cheapest places to stay if you want to be within walking distance of the Heavenly Gondola... and that's why we chose to stay here.  For a 1-night stay (Saturday night) our total was just under $80 for a room with 1 queen bed.  Upon checking in, we got upgraded to a room with 1 king bed.

PROS:
- Cheap
- Walking distance to Heavenly Gondola (under 10 min)
- Free parking
- Free breakfast (nothing special, just cereal, oatmeal, ramen(!), bagels, coffee, OJ)
- Our bathroom looked decently clean
- Heater in the room works well

CONS:
- Inspired by someone's Yelp review for this inn, I checked my pillow for hairs before using it. Indeed, there were 2 hairs on it. Ew.
- The water temperature of the shower would randomly change to cold, brrr.
- Walls are thin. We had a ground floor room right next to the stairs and parking lot & could hear lots of talking and car doors slamming.

Overall: You get what you pay for. Minus 3 stars for the 3 cons listed above, especially the grossness of pillows with a stranger's (or multiple strangers') hairs on it! I don't even want to know about the condition of the bedsheets...

I have stayed at Best Tahoe West- new name America's Best Value Casino Center Inn three times. The first two times we felt like we found this amazing cheap hotel and swore that we would never stay in another hotel when we visited Lake Tahoe. Unfortunately our last stay at the hotel left us wondering if we would return. : (

The first two times we were upgraded to amazing rooms, one in the main hotel and the other across the street in the cottages. Both rooms were spacious, clean, had a kitchenette area which is great if you don't want to spend a lot of money at the restaurants. Older style circe 1970 but it didn't bother us. The hotel staff was always super accommodating.

Recent stay- We were put in a room in the front of the hotel. No big deal we thought until we learned that you could hear every single noise in the neighborhood from the people in the apartments across the street blaring their music, to the drunk people in the hotel pool at all hours of the night. The walls of the hotel rooms are SUPER THIN. Our toilet handle broke off and then the toilet itself was broken and would drip all night. We spoke with the front desk and they assured us they would fix the handle. The handle broke off again after it was apparently "fixed". If you were going to fix one part of the toilet wouldn't you want to fix the constant dripping? To give the maintenance guy credit, he totally works his butt off around the hotel, it seemed like his job included everything from hotel maintenance to gardening, setting up breakfast in the morning and who knows what else he is assigned to. Kudos to him for being an amazing worker.

This room didn't have an alarm clock, fridge or microwave. I have a phone with a clock so no big deal but I found it weird that the hotel couldn't afford to pick up a cheap $5 alarm clock?

Worst part- The bed. Probably the worst bed I have ever slept in EVER. It was like a plank of wood with a sheet over it. Awful. The beds in the other rooms weren't as bad so maybe we just were lucky enough to get the worst bed in the hotel this time around. AC- Two choices, Freezing and Loud or just LOUD. It was miserable. We ended up just leaving the patio door open and dealing with all the outside noise then having to listen to the extremely loud circa 1970 AC.

Overall, the hotel could be great or could be awful depending on where you stay in the hotel. Everything is very basic, no extra frills. Luckily we go to Tahoe to bike around the lake and only use the hotel for sleeping and showering so the lack of frills didn't bother us. If you spend a lot of time in the hotel you will hate yourself. The hotel needs some SERIOUS UPDATING because it has gotten to the point where everything is just too old. Replace the carpets, paint the walls, get new beds, put a coffee pot in the rooms, etc.

It is cheap for what we need in a hotel, $50/night is great when you don't intend on spending a lot of time in the room. If you intend to spend a lot of time in the room you might want to look at a different hotel.

Dan is the nicest person to accommodate your stay here. He up graded me with no charge and even put us next to someone with the same last name as me (he thought we were on this trip together). Your within walking distance to the beach, casinos, shops and restaurants. You get what you pay for, it's not the fanciest place to stay but it is nice for being close to the strip. You get a microwave and refrigerator which is nice too. Parking also isn't a problem. I will be staying here my next trip to Tahoe.
